Registered Republican Sydney Sweeney roasted for red carpet look: 'Her gays hate her'
Bitch, you better be joking!Much like her character on Euphoria when everyone thought she was auditioning for Oklahoma, Sydney Sweeney is drawing criticism for a recent fashion fail.See on InstagramSweeney is at the center of a controversy that started when she starred in a campaign for American Eagle with the tagline, "Sidney Sweeney has great jeans.""Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color," Sweeney says in the ad campaign. "My jeans are blue."In response, some viewers made the connection between the "genes/jeans" pun and eugenics. As white supremacy becomes more and more pervasive in public discourse notably, President Trump said undocumented immigrants who commit murder "bad genes" on the 2024 campaign trail praising a blond, blue-eyed woman for her genes sounded like a dog whistle to some. The right took the social media backlash as an opportunity to leap to Sweeney's defense and embrace her as a hero. "My political advice to the Democrats is continue to [call] everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive a Nazi," Vice President JD Vance quipped on the Ruthless podcast. The culture war became further inflamed and caught President Trump's attention after media outlets reported that Sweeney registered to vote in Florida with a Republican party affiliation in June 2024."Sidney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go gem 'em, Sydney!" Donald Trump wrote Monday on Truth Social.See on InstagramOn Sunday, she's made her first public appearance following the controversy. Sweeney appeared on the red carpet for her new film Americana wearing a light yellow ballerina Danielle Frankel gown and headband. While she's normally considered a fashion icon, the new look, as well as her recent controversies, have fans questioning her taste and roasting the look on social media."Whoever styled her found out she's a Republican lol," wrote @hyrulefashionweek on Instagram."Who's responsible for her bad fashion genes?" asked @kokolovesbooks."Literally WHAT is the point of that headband?" added @margotfashionfiles.See on InstagramMany are referencing the famous scene in Euphoria where her character, Cassie, gets accused of "looking like you're auditioning for Oklahoma.""Someone said she's Amanda Seyfried's Wario and I can't unsee it," @andrea.poh said."Is this Tiffany Trump??" asked @estarla. (@) Fans are also dragging the look on X, where user @pgplumsparkle commented, "she became a tradwife that fast.""Being republican is not an excuse for that wack ass outfit," wrote @0nlineAnders.As Sweeney is white, blonde, blue-eyed, and conventionally beautiful, she has been a symbol of "anti-woke beauty" among the right for some time now. When she hosted Saturday Night Live in 2024, some commenters went as far to say "wokeness is dead."Sweeney also made headlines when she attended her mom's 60th birthday party in 2023, with another guest wearing a thin blue line shirt and yet another wearing a red hat that said "Make Sixty Great Again" in reference to Trump's "Make America Great Again" hats.

Violet Chachki and Gottmik's 'Knockout Tour': Fights, family, fashion
RuPaul's Drag Race global superstars Violet Chachki and Gottmik are hitting the road with The Knockout Tour, a three-month joint tour, starting on September 12 in Atlanta, GA and running through December 12 in Nashville, TN. To announce these dates and set expectations for the tour which is reaching 50 cities across the U.S. and Canada the No Gorge cohosts released a new song, "TKO," and a music video showcasing a grittier, wilder, and sweatier side to two of the most polished queens to ever appear in the Drag Race franchise. What gives?"We've spent this past year working on this tour, and then this song, and it's just gone through so many hands," Gottmik tells Out. "We are very specific divas, so it took a long time to figure out what the perfect mix a vintage jock-jam boxing song [would be] with our goth/glam style."Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Violet agrees, "There were a lot of layers and references we were trying to pack into one thing. I think both of us are so fierce with visuals. But, for me at least, it's harder with music. I can hear when something isn't correct, but it's hard for me to communicate exactly what should be changed. So it was difficult, and we worked with a couple different producers."The songwriting process also "got to a point where I was like, 'I don't like this.' I felt like I was forcing the notes," Violet explains. "We were really trying to get it to a place where we both felt very happy which is really hard to do, if you could imagine such a thing, for the two of us," she teases. It can be easy for outsiders to dismiss how much work it takes for creative choices to feel right and earned. Thankfully, Gottmik and Violet's artistic direction pays off as we venture into this new environment (a boxing gym) and narrative (combat sports) assisted by visual cues that ground our understanding of these drag personas.Drag is a contact sport.Gottmik praises the cast members in the "TKO" music video for being "the chillest, most amazing people to work with," highlighting how collaborative and committed they were to make this vision come to life. "We wanted to create a slightly over characteristic campy vibe for everyone else."Beyond casting bodybuilders and muscle hunks among them, Pit Crew member Jesse Pattison who made sense in this environment and looked striking alongside the No Gorge queens, finding "the perfect ring girl" for this queer fantasia was at the tip of one's tongue. "I knew it was Fantasia [Royale Gaga]," Gottmik asserts. "She's the caricature of the perfect woman to me. She had to be the ring card girl. That just felt natural. And Fantasia was just like, 'Of course. Hopping on a plane.'""She's so sweet, and just always down to do the work," Violet says. "It was a hundred degrees that day, I'm not even kidding you. The warehouse had no air conditioning, and there was nowhere to really sit, so it was just a difficult shoot day, to be honest."Violet points out that they shot the music video "the Monday after Pride, so some people dropped out last minute, and a lot of friends were coming in late. Just trying to coordinate and getting everyone there was very difficult, but the people that did show up are true ride-or-die divas."Ozzy Osbourne's recent passing inspired pop culture aficionados to revisit the Black Sabbath discography and rewatch The Osbournes a little more closely this time paying special attention to the paternal figure in the MTV series often credited as the blueprint for celebrity-driven lifestyle reality shows."We were rewatching The Osbournes the other day and I realized how the kids are literally just siblings on TV And that's just how it is with us," Gottmik says, motioning toward Violet.Violet adds, "We love each other, and we're there for each other, and we uplift each other all at the same time. But we also fight like actual sisters, because we are actual family. It's all very nuanced and layered."Gottmik, the generator.Gottmik recalls that the idea for The Knockout Tour came while driving and seeing a billboard for a boxing fight. "I took a photo of it and put it on a Pinterest board. I thought it would be crazy for us to do something like that, so I started building this insane mood board for months and months."As Gottmik found and fell in love with all kinds of "vintage boxing aesthetic" ideas, the time felt right to loop in Violet. "I was like, 'There's something here that could be insane for us.'"In fact, this new era is described as "the opposite of what the drag zeitgeist is right now" by Gottmik. The drag trailblazer adds, "Everything is about wearing the biggest outfits, and the biggest mermaid gowns, and all that stuff. So for us to be like, 'Let's do funny little ponytails, while sweating, and box it out.' That's just something that we've never done, and we'll never probably do again.""Right. Basically, we're not like other girls," Violet teases.Gottmik laughs, "We're athletic pick-me girls."Having identifiable "eras" is a great marketing tool for musicians. Madonna proved how this approach can sustain many decades of a career establishing it as the new normal for pop stars like Beyonc, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. When I bring up Mother Monster's stripped-down, cowboy era for the Joanne album one that the gays love to kiki about Violet begs to differ and underscores that they're "not giving Joanne era." They're aiming for a more "athletic pick-me girls" moment while "still giving extremely high glam." She adds, "But the thought of being athletes is there.""Yeah," Gottmik joins in. "Do you want to call Swarovski crystal boxing gloves 'jeans'? Sure, you there you go, an Out magazine quote for the interview."Before I'm able to stop laughing in order to respond, Gottmik smiles and mouths that she's just kidding.A versatile, and more vulnerable, Violet. While Gottmik continued to mood-board for her life on Pinterest, the process of putting together The Knockout Tour was a different experience for Violet: It pushed the season 7 winner to reflect on how long she's been doing drag, how she had "never really tapped into sports, because it's so not my thing," and even more recent memories of seeing TikTok videos of herself "from 2011 or 2012, where I'm at the grocery store or some shit. And I'm just like, 'Wow, I have worn so much drag, and outfits, and characters.'"Our interview takes a surprising, sharp, and lovely turn as Violet looks back at the journey she's had since winning Drag Race season 7 in 2015 a full decade ago and becoming America's Next Drag Superstar. That Pride Month, set in a pre-MAGA world, included Violet's crowning on June 1, same-sex marriage being legalized on June 26, and Violet dropping her first and only body of work in music (an EP titled Gagged) on June 30."When I was first starting to put music out, I really wanted to brand myself as fetish-y, dark; really getting into that aspect of my drag. That was also 10 years ago, and I've even forgotten about a lot of that stuff," Violet recalls. "Sometimes, my old music pops up and I'm like, 'Whoa, maybe I should take that one down from Spotify.'"I protest that Violet should absolutely not do that. "That's what I said!" Gottmik shouts. While most of the classic Chachki-isms are still there, it isn't hard to see where Violet is coming from. The drag entertainer that she is today is not limited to the freak-in-the-sheets "Bettie," is no longer "addicted to being depicted / As the bitch with the whip and the Dior tights" from "Mistress Violet," and is actually a lot more Violet than what she envisioned in "A Lot More Me" from 2018."The truth is that I really have a eclectic taste. Even when I'm DJing, there's people like, 'Oh, what's your style of DJ?' And I'm like, 'Fierce.' I can't really pinpoint an exact genre," Violet says. "Sometimes it's goth clubs. Sometimes it's jock jams. Sometimes it's house, techno, trance, a little bit of Shania Twain in there, and a little pop diva. It's just all over the place."Nonetheless, it's been a minute since Violet committed to a big tour like The Knockout Tour 50 cities for three months. "It's a lot. It's definitely a lot of dates," she confesses. "I had announced my solo show in North America, which was something comparable to this, but then the [lockdown] happened and shit just got weird.""The last time I did something like this was in 2016, I think. I did a tour called Battle of the Seasons, which was a group tour," Violet says. Longtime Drag Race fans absolutely remember BOTS, which used to be the only world-reaching tour for drag performers, and even featured Michelle Visage as one of the girls traveling on the tour bus and doing the concerts, often serving as the emcee of each show. "It was a group tour, and I'm literally traumatized by the videos that are still on the internet. It was so, so long ago. I used to have entire years that were just gone."These divas are determined to knock you out.Despite the weird memories surrounding that period in her life, Violet feels more than ready and well-trained for this joint tour with Gottmik, noting: "BOTS was like a three-hour show. It was so crazy. I'm traumatized by it. I feel like if I can get through that, I can get through this."The Knockout Tour will maintain the boxing theme in "TKO," while also including a wide range of performance styles and talents. "We're structuring it as a normal show, but doing different segments as rounds," Violet explains. "We're going to do live singing. We've got aerial. We've got burlesque. We've got dance solos. There's even audience participation."The tour's overall concept is "glamour versus punk rock, along with a loose narrative throughout the entire show," Violet says. On that note, she teases that "there will probably be actual fighting going on behind the scenes." Gottmik nods and agrees."We're also bringing it to the runway, if you will, as well as the stage," Violet remarks. "Gottmik does more punk rock, whereas I do more classic glam. But there is this crossover that overlaps fetish and we're going to be battling it out. It's interesting that we get to play with that, and also play against that.""TKO" was co-written and co-produced by Violet Chachki and Gottmik. The record was a collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer NOVODOR (Troye Sivan, ODESZA, Adam Lambert) and producer Nick Weiss a.k.a. Nightfeelings (Kim Petras, Lazza, Ghali). The song was a collaboration with songwriters Jesse Saint John (Britney Spears, Dorian Electra, Charli XCX) and Alex Chapman (Jade, Zara Larsson, Paris Hilton). The Knockout Tour starts September 12 in Atlanta, Georgia and runs through December 12 in Nashville, Tennessee. For tickets and more information about Violet Chachki and Gottmik's The Knockout Tour, visit Seated.com.

  • U S Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene Left And George Santos

BREAKING: Marjorie Taylor Greene officially urges Trump to commute George Santoss prison sentence
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday formally urged President Donald Trump to commute the prison sentence of former Republican congressman George Santos, calling his 87-month term a grave injustice and an example of unequal treatment under the law.In a letter to the Office of the Pardon Attorney, Greene wrote that Santoss sentence for wire fraud and identity theft extends far beyond what is warranted and framed his conduct as campaign-related, despite extensive findings from federal prosecutors. While his crimes warrant punishment, Greene wrote, many of my colleagues who I serve with have committed far worse offenses than Mr. Santos yet have faced zero criminal charges. She provided no evidence for that claim.Related: Trump says he could pardon George Santos, but no ones askedSantos, 37, reported to federal prison in New Jersey on July 25. He pleaded guilty in 2024 to 23 felony counts, including fraudulent Federal Elections Commission filings, identity theft, and unemployment insurance fraud. He admitted to stealing donor identities to charge their credit cards without authorization, falsifying campaign loans, lying in House financial disclosures, and using donor money for personal purchases such as designer clothing and Botox.Following his April 2025 sentencing, Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham celebrated Santoss conviction and sentence in a press release. Today, George Santos was finally held accountable for the mountain of lies, theft, and fraud he perpetrated," he said. "For the defendant, it was judgment day, and for his many victims, including campaign donors, political parties, government agencies, elected bodies, his own family members, and his constituents, it is justice.Related: George Santos has to report to prison tomorrow hes not taking it wellFBI Assistant Director of the New York Field Office Christopher G. Raia said Santos betrayed the publics trust and violated our democratic systems, and IRS criminal investigator Harry T. Chavis Jr. called him a weaver of lies who believed he was above the law.Still, Greene claimed Santos had remorse and pointed to a lack of prior criminal history. He is sincerely remorseful and has accepted full responsibility for his actions, she wrote. Commuting his sentence would acknowledge the severity of his actions and simultaneously provide a path forward in allowing him to make amends. In a tweet Monday evening, Greene wrote, George Santos has taken responsibility. Hes shown remorse. Its time to correct this injustice. We must demand equal justice under the law! (@) Her appeal comes just days after Trump said that he had not been approached about pardoning Santos, but did not rule it out. I have the right to do it, Trump told Newsmax. Nobodys asked me, but its interesting. The Advocate has contacted White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to ask whether the president is now considering Greenes request.Santos, the first out gay Republican elected to Congress as a non-incumbent, was expelled from the House in December 2023 following a scathing report by the House Ethics Committee. After sentencing, he pleaded with Trump on social media for clemency and promoted his Cameo account to raise money for court-ordered restitution.

  • The Happiest Season Shane From The L Word And Arcane
    WWW.OUT.COM
15 of the worst fictional lesbian girlfriends in TV and movie history
We love seeing lesbian love stories on our screens. Do they sometimes break our hearts and have us crying into our bowls of popcorn? Yes. But they also feed our hunger for seeing more sapphic stories in media. But not every love story has a happily ever after, and not all lesbian characters are good people (thank god, that would be so boring if they were). There are some lesbian girlfriends who lie, cheat, and are abusive, but these problematic characters are also frequently sexy, exciting, and a helluva lot of fun to watch. Plus, its relatable. Flaws are human, and weve all probably done some crummy things in relationships or have had a girlfriends screw us over.Listen, bad lesbian representation matters, too! So here are the 15 worst girlfriends in television and cinematic history!Harper 'The Happiest Season'Clea DuValls lesbian Christmas movie is divisive, in large part because of how Harper (Mackenzie Davis) treated her girlfriend Abby (Kristen Stewart). Everyone has a right to come out to their family in their own time, but Harper should have been upfront with Abby so she could have decided whether or not she was willing to go back in the closet and pretend to be her roommate. Shane The L WordShane (Kate Moennig) may be ride or die for her friends, but not so much for the ladies shes dating. Shane was always portrayed as a bit of a Lothario, but she committed to Carmen (Sarah Shahi). Too bad she has major commitment issues and ended up cheating on Carmen with Cherie and then leaving Carmen at the altar. And the list goes on, and on.. Lauren Lost GirlLauren (Zoie Palmer) is fiercely loyal and sacrifices her time and energy to help her girlfriend Bo (Anna Silk), but she veers pretty far into bad GF territory by lying, betraying her trust, and lashing out when shes under pressure. None of its great. Some fans hated their relationship so much that they only kept watching because they held out hope that Bo would end up with Dyson in the end.Caitlyn 'Arcane'So, other girlfriends on this list are a little toxic, maybe too controlling, or lie to their partner, but Caitlyn (Katie Leung) from Arcane is kind of a villain. Yes, she and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) had one of the hottest sex scenes ever animated and end up together in the end, but the road to get there was paved with abuse. At times, their relationship feels more like an oppressor X oppressed than loving girlfriends. Caitlyn convinces Vi to become a cop to hunt down her own sister, becomes a bit of a dictator after V stops her from killing a child, and then hits Vi with her gun over a previous wound. Yeah, none of its great.Paige 'Pretty Little Liars'Paily (AKA Paige and Emily) was on the major romantic storyline in the series, but Paige (Lindsey Shaw) was low key obsessed with Emily (Shay Mitchell) and controlling, and although Emily wasnt a great girlfriend herself, at least she didnt try to drown Paige. Paige, however, did push Emilys head underwater to scare her and exert control. Nuff said. All of 'em 'Love Lies Bleeding'Lets be honest, no one is a great partner in the hot lesbian erotic thriller Love Lies Bleeding. Daisy (Anna Baryshnikov) and Lou (Kristen Stewart) are both kind of shitty girlfriends, but Jackie (Katy O'Brian) might just take the cake. Lou and Jackie both overlooked some major red flags when getting into a relationship with each other, but Jackie ends up hitting Lou because of her anger issues fueled by steroid use and her obsession with Lou. And this was after Lou had helped her dispose of a dead body!Jack 'Ted Lasso'Apparently, Ted Lasso just doesnt want Keeley (Juno Temple) to have a good health relationship. When she starts dating millionaire mogul Jack (Jodi Balfour), it looks like things are finally turning around for the fan-fave character, but when Keeleys private video leaked online, Jacks response left a lot to be desired. While she might not have overtly slut shamed her, she refused her claim Keeley as her girlfriend in front of other people, canceled public engagements out of embarrassment, and tried to convince Keeley to make a public statement she didnt agree with. Jackie 'Whatever Keeps You Alive'Ok, so technically Jackie (Hannah Emily Anderson) and Jules (Brittany Allen) are married not girlfriends, but definitely qualifies as a bad partner since early in the movie she does push her wife off a cliff to try and murder her and cash in on her life insurance policy. Things dont go exactly as planned and Jackie spends the rest of the movie trying to finish the job. So what were saying is shes not going to be winning and best wife awards any time soon.Alex 'Jagged Mind'This twisty lesbian horror movie takes the toxic girlfriend trope to the extreme. Alex (Shannon Woodward) may seem like the perfect woman when Billie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) meets her at a bar, but this walking red flag spends the whole movie manipulating time and erasing Billies memories to keep her under her control. Alex gaslights Billie and lets her keep thinking she is sick or has a severe mental illness just so she can keep her under her thumb. Basically, shes evil. Alex 'Orange is the New Black'Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) might have been sinfully hot on Orange is the New Black, but she was also a terrible girlfriend to main character Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). The couples dynamic was never healthy and they were frequently betraying and hurting each other. But really, their whole relationship was built on a foundation of sand since Alex named Piper in her testimony in court. No one likes a rat, Alex.Tonya 'The L Word'The L Word was filled with flawed characters making terrible decisions that end up hurting each other, but Tonya (Meredith McGeachie) may have been one of the worst girlfriends on the show. Not only did she overly rely on Dana (Erin Daniels) for emotional support, but she also admitted to cheating on Dana. Although, to be fair, Dana was also having an affair with Alice. Like we said, the show was full of flawed chaotic lesbians. Also, we know she killed Mr. Piddles. Monster.Silver Ginny & GeorgiaSilver (Katelyn Wells) has been widely criticized by Ginny & Georgia fans who werent thrilled when she shows up in season 3 as Maxs (Sara Waisglass) love interest. Silver isnt supportive and dismisses Maxs concern about her brother Marcus drinking and then enables him by giving him alcohol. But, to be fair, Max is also A LOT, so you decided for yourself who was the worse in the relationship. Taissa YellowjacketsAdult Taissa (Tawny Cypress), much like every other character on Yellowjackets, is kind of an awful person who hasnt dealt with her traumatic teen years in a productive way. Shes a terrible wife, and then when she reconnects with Van (Lauren Ambrose), she becomes toxic influence who tries to push Van to go outside her moral code in order to try and save her driven by her love of Van and fear of losing her and we all know how that ends.Kitty Tipping the VelvetTipping the Velvet, a British miniseries based on a Sarah Waters novel, was groundbreaking back in 2002 when it first aired. Not only did it introduce audiences to heartbreaking lesbian love affairs and strap-ons, but it also featured two complex sapphic characters in Nancy Nan Astley (Rachael Stirling) and the male impersonator she falls for, Kitty Butler (Keeley Hawes). The performers fall in love while creating an act together, but Nan is heartbroken when she finds Kitty in bed with a man and announces her plans to marry him. Lydia TrLydia Tr (Cate Blanchett) may be a brilliant conductor, but shes a mess when it comes to her personal life. Lydia uses her position of authority to have sexual relationships with her students and people who work under her. She also gaslights her wife, blacklists a former protg she slept with, and her sexual relationships with women seem transactional. Ultimately, she ends up losing everything because of her behavior.

Go Ask Alex: I'm 36, disabled, and ignored on gay apps. How do I find guys?
Hi Alexander!I write to you after reading I'm 42, gay, never had a bf, and hate apps. What do I do? in Out magazine. I am in a similar situation; however, I am 36, live in Australia, and have a disability, albinism. Yes, pure white hair (everywhere) and skin, along with a vision impairment, but you wouldnt know that from just looking at me.I admit I am a large guy, which I am working on; however, that doesnt seem to be the issue I face. I find I am getting ignored, turned down, and at times harassed for being too white. I have had guys go out of their way on Grindr to tell me I need to get a tan and color my hair. This is what hurts me most, as these are things I cannot change about myself, especially getting a tan. The only thing I can medically do is get sunburnt and turn red.I dont know where I fit in within the gay community. I want friends, I want a relationship, I want to be accepted for who I am, but people see me and avoid me. The community doesnt accept people as much as it likes to say it does. I feel more accepted by the straight community than I do by the gay community (I choose to use the gay community term as that is where I want to make connections for obvious reasons, but this does in general mean the whole LGBTIQA+ cohort).I make friends so easily, so I dont think it is a personality problem. I dont drink alcohol, so I do get ostracized/shamed for that too, but I can deal with that one as I agree it is odd for an Aussie not to drink! I am really at my wits' end trying to work out where to turn next. Maybe you have some fresh ideas?Cheers,BenHey Ben, Your message is a good reminder to everyone that despite what some advertisers, showrunners, and social media (and even, to some extent, LGBT magazines) make us think there is no monolithic picture of gay life. Im a media person, so I have to navigate the horrible world of stock image sites. When I search gay men or gay couple on these sites, nearly all the photos are of white, traditionally fit, able-bodied, cisgender men in their 20s and 30s. Almost none show older or even middle-aged men. Thats just one small example of a bigger problem one your message tackles directly. I see the stock images facet of this problem in my work, and you see a different aspect of it in your sex and dating life. The problem is a strange homogeneity that exists purely in the public perception of what it means to be gay. This homogeneity does not exist in the real, lived experience of gay men but rather in the public ideation of us, and the ramifications of this are far-reaching and brutal for anyone who exists outside that norm. It makes dating and sex harder for anyone who is gay but doesnt fit the social image of gay. This homogeneity is, in part, what led to a social schism in the fabric of gay identity what, in effect, led to queer, queer culture, the queer scene. And thats where Id tell you to play. Queer is not perfect, but it can be friendlier. I know Im painting with a broad brush here. But, yes: Gay circuit parties and gay bars and gay hookup apps might not be the most welcoming arena for a non-normative body to beat loneliness in. Thats why queer festivals, queer raves, queer sober meetups, and queer spaces exist to be more welcoming, more FLINTA*, more open.Queer still has its issues. In general, it mandates a vaguely defined leftist political didactism attached to ones base sexuality, and some people (like me) simply dont like the idea of a single term defining both their politics and their sexuality. Queer tends to get cloyingly academic: It absorbs ideas like anticolonialism and antiracism and makes them a composite part of the queer identity. Many queer people would argue that a person with conservative politics can be gay but never queer. Still, the benefit of looking and playing in queer spaces is that they can feel closer to the island of misfit toys idea that gay culture was at its best and that, on rare occasions, it still is, sometimes. These days, queer often feels more like the come as you are, all are welcome counterculture I first fell in love with and that I sorely needed when I first came out. Many people reading this will vehemently disagree with this. Nothing inspires more anger and indignation in our community than the discourse between gay and queer. And in a way, that makes sense: A great deal of lived, real hurt lies between these two terms and the cultures they attempt to define. Speaking for myself, I dont feel fully at home in either of them. However, I offer this advice to play in a queer crowd from my own lived experience. When I started doing steroids and getting serious at the gym when I started looking more traditionally attractive I did better in a gay crowd. But when I want to play with my gender, or I admit when I feel less confident about my looks, less traditional, softer, stranger, more punk, more rock-and-roll, I do better in a queer crowd. This means I have to build up my strength for a gay crowd, while a queer crowd takes me when Im not feeling so strong. Ive never fully committed to either scene, but I recognize this lived experience as an indicator of which one feels safer. And it tells me which scene I trust to be kind to my friends who dont look traditional who are disabled, transgender, nonbinary, or curvy. I know the scenes, parties, events, and spaces Id feel better taking these friends to. And thats just a fact. Its not a glorification of queer as a philosophical idea but just a recognition of which spaces feel safer and, if anything, thats an indictment of all of us. I still more readily call myself gay rather than queer, but Im not happy with how unfriendly and unwelcoming weve become, and I wonder how complicit I am in that. So: Fiind queer book clubs, queer cafs, and queer community groups. Get involved in your local queer charity or queer activist group. There are many ways to meet queer (and gay) men outside of bars and clubs, but they may involve committing to a weekly meetup, hosting a gathering of film nerds, or joining an existing group. But I find that once you start looking for these things, they appear, and they are beautiful to discover every time. For what its worth, Im glad youre part of my community, Ben no matter what we choose to call it. Hey there! Im Alexander Cheves. • Harper Steele Matt Bernstein Jonathan Capehart In Short Form Documentary Reclaim The Flag
    WWW.OUT.COM
How these LGBTQ+ icons are reclaiming the American flag
Its 2025, and the American flag, iconic, fluttering, politicized, has become a battleground. For many LGBTQ+ Americans, it marks danger. For some, it marks defiance. And for the creators of Reclaim the Flag, a new short-form documentary, its a canvas of conflicted meanings, ripped from the grip of reactionaries and rethreaded by the very communities some seek to erase.Premiering in July and now streaming online, Reclaim the Flag is a 27-minute documentary produced by designer Alexis Bittar and Oscar-winning filmmaker Bruce Cohen. The film features a cross-section of LGBTQ+ cultural figures, including Lena Waithe, George Takei, Karine Jean-Pierre, Symone, Cheyenne Jackson, Marc Jacobs, Raquel Willis, and Jim Parsons. Their reflections span grief, rage, pride, and reclamation. A flag that doesnt feel safeOne of the voices viewers hear is Harper Steele, the Emmy-nominated screenwriter and co-star of Will & Harper, the 2024 road trip documentary featuring her and best friend Will Ferrell. In that film, Steele said, I love this country so much. I just dont know if it loves me back. In Reclaim the Flag, she returns to that idea with even greater urgency.Related: 'Will & Harper' is a revolutionary documentary about the power of empathy, acceptance, and allyshipI am an endless, to the point of boring, [person] who can talk about what the symbol of the flag is supposed to mean, contrasting it with how it has been co-opted, she said in an interview with The Advocate. It hits me pretty deeply.Steele recently drove across the country from Atlanta to Los Angeles, her fourth time doing so since filming Will & Harper, and said the flag is no longer an abstraction but a constant in her daily life. Wouldnt it be nice if you were in trouble, if you were running from something, if you were afraid and you looked at a house that had an American flag and said, great, Im safe? she asked. And that is not the case.Still, she finds herself drawn to the flag as an object. Mainly, the flags I collect are flags I find in thrift stores, she said. They have to be cloth, they have to be sewn, they have to be older. I have, I dont know, 10 of these things because I love the colors so much just from an aesthetic point of view.Fighting for a symbol, not fleeing itFor Bittar, that tension, between love of country and fear of it, is what sparked the project in the first place. I was genuinely looking at where I could move with my kids, he recalled thinking after President Donald Trump took office the second time. And then it hit me: Im not letting them take my country. Im staying and fighting for it.He picked up the phone and called Cohen. I think he thought it might have been a longer pitch, Bittar said.He got about as far as reclaim the flag, and I was like, Im in, Cohen remembered. I want to do everything I can to help.He and his husband, too, had already felt the discomfort Steele described. We had put up a flag on our barn because we felt that it was ours too, Cohen said. But we knew that 90 to 100 percent of everyone driving by just assumed we were MAGA. They took it down.Related: 21 words the queer community has and hasn't reclaimedWhat began as a planned 15-minute short grew into something more expansive. We got such extraordinary leaders in all these different areas and from all the different corners of the huge task that is the LGBT community, Cohen said. We got more than 15 minutes of super compelling, provocative, entertaining, disturbing, thought-provoking material.Symbols stripped and repurposedMatt Bernstein, the 26-year-old creator and host of the A Bit Fruity podcast, is one of those voices. There is just less of a feeling of patriotism on the young American left, he told The Advocate. So much of that just comes from disenfranchisement within a crumbling democracy, where people dont feel like they have a say.For Bernstein, the flag doesnt represent unity. It means systems of power. What does the American flag continue to stand for on a global stage? he asked. I think it is, among other things, the rising tide of fascism. I think its the aiding and abetting of genocide. I think it is, on a somewhat more comical level, like, stupidity within government. And yet, hes not done with it. All flags are Pride flags for something, right? he said. According to the government right now, were allowed to be proud to feel American, whatever the f**k that means right now, but were not allowed to feel proud of being gay or trans.Deep patriotism and deep critiqueMSNBCs The Weekend coanchor Jonathan Capehart, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, was nearly moved to tears during filming. I held that flag and it was emotional, he told The Advocate. A gut punch. He recalled a moment during Trumps first term when he was in Amsterdam for a speech. I looked over, and [my guides] lock screen was the Statue of Liberty. To see that, in the middle of what we were going through during Trump One, told me that the world still viewed us as a beacon of hope.Even now, he holds onto that belief. There is enough goodwill around the world for the American people, Capehart said. And maybe even more so, there is enough goodwill around the world for the symbol of America.Related: Reclaiming the Mosaic: Dr. Tyler TerMeer on the weight of intersectional leadershipCapehart, echoing James Baldwin, explained the deeper philosophical framework behind his vision of patriotism. I love this country so much, I have the right to criticize her relentlessly, he said. What could be more patriotic than holding the mirror up to the nation and pointing out where the nation is falling down on keeping its promise to all of its people as written down in its founding documents?Contested symbols in a contested nationCapehart pointed to the current administrations theatrical embrace of the flag as performative and unsettling. In June, Trump installed two 88-foot flag poles with the American flags on the White House campus. The beauty of the White House before those sort of car dealershipsize flags were put in the North and South Lawn, he said, was the American flag, its still there, flew atop the White House. And that was all you needed. The stakes are higher than ever. As the Trump administration floods government buildings with massive flag displays while banning LGBTQ+ flags from public institutions, the contradictions are impossible to ignore. Steele called out the hypocrisy. That is not built into our Constitution or the Declaration of Independence, she said. Its quite the opposite. She drew a line between todays flag politics and old Westerns. If you look at the movie Stagecoach, everything about this movie speaks to what it means to be an American in the right waywhat it means to be forgiving, what it means to be allowing live and let live, she said. And for some reason, the church town people in this tiny Western are now running our country.I dont mean Donald Trump, because Donald Trump is just a pawn, she added. Its a larger group of people, Christian nationalists, who are now canceling people left and right. They are the uber cancellers of culture right now.Related: How a cross-country road trip brought Will Ferrell closer to his trans bestie Harper SteeleSteele sees the crackdown on trans rights as part of a broader authoritarian movement. This assault on trans people is just an assault on otherness, she said. Which is happening to a greater extent with Black and brown people in this country and obviously with immigrants. She continued: The queer community better [pay attention]. There was just an article in The New York Times by Andrew Sullivan suggesting that trans people need to cool it a little bit. And I dont think theyre understanding that this is not a war thats going to end at getting rid of trans people.Back in upstate New York, Steele flew both the trans flag and the American flag from her porch. The flags need to be next to each other, she said. If you have a queer flag out in front of your house, I think its important to say, And Im an American and I vote. That to me is an important way to reclaim that flag.Watch Reclaim the Flag below. - YouTube www.youtube.com

Abracadabra! Lady Gaga dominates queer- and diva-filled VMA nominations
The 2025 VMAs are about to be iconic!MTV unveiled its nominations for this year's Video Music Awards and Lady Gaga is leading the pack with 12 nominations. Mother Monster nabbed nods in categories like Video of the Year for her collaborations with Bruno Mars, "Die With a Smile," Artist of the Year, and Best Album. But she wasn't the only queer artist to walk away with an impressive number of nominations.Bille Eilish received six nominations, including Song of the Year for "Birds of a Feather," while Doechii and Miley Cyrus tied for four nods. The pop divas had a strong year (as they always do) and grabbed a couple nods themselves.Sabrina Carpenter and BLACKPINK's Ros received eight nominations, especially in the big categories like Artist of the Year and Best Pop. Ariana Grande followed closely behind with seven nominations for Brighter Days Ahead, the short film she released in tandem with the extended deluxe version of Eternal Sunshine. Being that it was an off year for Taylor Swift, she only received one nomination in the Artist of the Year category. The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards will take place at the UBS Arena in New York on September 7 and will air on CBS for the first time, as well as Paramount+. Here are some of the highlights from this year's nominations.Lady GagaMayhem proved to be a fruitful labor of love for Lady Gaga, her first solo album since 2020's Chromatica was met with critical praise and phenomenal performances at Coachella and a free concert in Brazil that was reportedly attended by 2.1 million people. This year, she's coming out on top with 12 nominations, the most of any artist this year.At the award ceremony this year, Gaga is up for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and six nominations for "Abracadabra" alone. We haven't seen Gaga at the VMAs since her 2020 performance with Ariana Grande when they performed "Rain on Me" and we all know that she's given us one of (if not, the most) iconic VMAs performances of all time at the 2009 ceremony when she performed "Paparazzi."Sabrina CarpenterAfter a momentous 2024, Sabrina Carpenter is riding the wave of popularity back to the awards ceremony. She was nominated for eight awards, including Best Pop Artist, Best Album, and Best Direction categories.Shortly after the Short n' Sweet era seemed like it was coming to a close, Carpenter ramped her fans back up with a brand new single earlier this year called "Manchild" and announced a new album, Man's Best Friend, coming at the end of the month. The awards ceremony will be happening just a week after the release of her album, so if she gets announced as a performer, expect a debut performance of a new song.Miley CyrusEndless Summer Vacation was Miley Cyrus' latest album back in 2023 and it spawned the mega-hit, "Flowers." Now, Cyrus is leaning more into that rock aesthetic with her new album, Something Beautiful. It might not have been the most radio-friendly album, but it still managed to steal the hearts of MTV. She walked away with four nominations including Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Long Form Video, and Best Pop Artist.Ariana GrandeIn the intermission between Wicked and Wicked: For Good, Ariana Grande expanded upon her critically acclaimed seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, with a deluxe version called Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead. The new version of the album goes deeper into the album's theme that plays on the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And instead of making multiple videos, Grande released a short film comprised of all the new songs. The project resonated emotionally with her fans and MTV, who gave her four nominations for the short film. She nabbed nominations in the Video of Year, Best Pop Artist, Best Pop, and Best Longform Video categories.Bad BunnyBad Bunny is on a one-man world tour that is starting out with a residency in Puerto Rico and skipping over the rest of the United States entirely before going abroad. These moves are obvious political statements that are all over the music he releases. His sixth studio album, Deb Tirar Ms Fotos, is all about paying homage to his home country of Puerto Rico and cherishing the beauty of his Latin heritage. He is not attending award shows, most of the time because he's on tour, but if he wins big this year, maybe he'll bless the audience with an appearance. Benito was nominated in the Artist of the Year, Best Latin, Best Album, and Best Long Form Video categories, the latter being for the short film accompanying his album.DoechiiDoechii announced that she is going on a tour across North America yesterday after sharing the news at Lollapalooza the day before. At this year's Grammy Awards, she was the third woman ever to receive an award in the Best Rap Album category after Cardi B and Ms. Lauryn Hill. And on top of this, just a few months later, she made her debut on the Met Gala red carpet.Nothing is stopping Doechii's ascendence, and these four VMA nominations are just another feather to add to her ever-growing cap of accolades. Her song "Anxiety" became a viral hit and now that success is being recognized in four categories at the award ceremony: Video for Good, Best Choreography, Best Hip Hop, and Song of the Year.LordeLorde made her comeback this year, and in the time she's been back, we learned so much about her. She started to expand on her thoughts of "broadening" her gender, saying some days she feels like a man and sometimes she feels like a woman. The New Zealander takes us on that journey on her latest album, Virgin. The lead singles, "What Was That" and "Man of the Year," nabbed nominations at this year's MTV VMAs. The former received a nod in the Song of the Year category while the latter received a nom for "Best Art Direction." Lorde also received a nod for Best Pop Artist.Billie EilishBillie Eilish's own work in Hit Me Hard and Soft, and notably the "Birds of a Feather" single, was nominated for Video of the Year and Song of the Year. Moreover, Eilish's collaboration with Charli XCX on the remix of Brat's "Guess" earned both artists a few nominations: Video for Good, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Editing.Lola YoungLola Young was nominated for Best New Artist. Her song, "Messy," also entered the Best Alternative category. Gigi PerezAnother nominee in the Best New Artist category is Gigi Perez. Otherwise, the artist could also win a MTV Push Performance of the Year trophy for her June 2025 performance of "Sailor Song."Charli XCXThe "Guess" remix by Charli XCX (featuring Billie Eilish) is nominated for Video for Good, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Editing.XCX was also nominated for Best Pop Artist.BeyoncBeyonc only received one nomination for the 2025 VMAs: Artist of the Year.Taylor SwiftJust like Beyonc, Taylor Swift also only received one nomination this year in the Artist of the Year category.

Rene Rapp's 16 best songs, ranked, to celebrate 'Bite Me'
TheseRene Rapp songs rule!Rene Rapp's new album is here! The lesbian singer has been teasing her new era for some time, and now, her second album, Bite Me, is officially out!Rapp has released three singles from the album so far, "Leave Me Alone," "Mad," and "Why Is She Still Here?" and released the full album on August 1.Now that Rapp has released one EP, Everything to Everyone, the soundtrack to the movie musical Mean Girls, and her two albums, 2023's Snow Angel and 2025's Bite Me, we're counting down her best songs.Keep reading and find out if you agree with our list!16. "Meet the Plastics"Talk about a legendary entrance! Rapp first shows up as Regina George in the Mean Girls musical movie by singing this song as she walks into the lunch room in slow motion. Everyone stops and stares, and you will too.15. "Poison Poison"The third song off Rapp's debut album Snow Angel, "Poison Poison," is a friend breakup song about cutting off someone who betrays you.14. "In the Kitchen"This piano ballad lets Rapp show off the strength of her vocals. This dramatic breakup song comes from her debut EP, Everything to Everyone. 13. "World Burn"Rapp gets to go full villain on this solo ballad from Mean Girls. Regina George has had enough with all of her lackeys and fellow students and wants to destroy everything. Rapp did a terrific job of nailing the song's anger and rage.12. "You'd Like That Wouldn't You?"Rapp calls out her exes in this bold and brash song. The song is uptempo and aggressive, and features Rapp describing various tortures she could go through to make her ex think about taking her back. After two minutes of proposing that she cut her heart out of her chest, beg her ex to take her back, and says she'll never find love again, she reveals the truth. "Honey, it's pathetic / And I need you to know / The thought of gettin' back together / Makes me wanna die alone."11. "Tummy Hurts"One of several breakup songs from Rapp, "Tummy Hurts," has the singer predicting that her ex-boyfriend will have a daughter with his new partner and that that daughter will grow up to have her heart broken by a man just like her father.10. "Kiss It Kiss It"Rapp is clearly having fun on this track from Bite Me, where she sings the praises of a new love and her "kissing" skills. "I think we almost made a baby / I mean, we can't, but we came so close," she sings. When you listen more closely, you start to realize the song isn't about kissing on the mouth. "You're gonna kill me if you kiss it like that / Got me in tears and not because I'm sad / Top of the morning, let me pull your hair back / Like, come on and kiss it, kiss it," Rapp sings, praising her partner's oral skills.9. "Too Well"This upbeat bop from the 2022 EP Everything to Everyone is a favorite among Rapp's fans. With its theme of struggling to move on from a relationship and its memorable chorus, it's not hard to figure out why!8. "Snow Angel"Written about a traumatic experience Rapp had, "Snow Angel" is one of the singer's more dramatic and powerful songs. Rapp knows how to have fun on her songs, but this one proves she knows how to get deep.7. "Why Is She Still Here?"Rapp can show off her vocal prowess on this R&B-tinged track about a situationship. Rapp asks why the girl she's sleeping with introduces her as her friend, why she still flirts with other girls, and if she respects her. Rapp's voice is perfect for the longing but firm song.6. "Shy"In this playfully titled song, Rapp says she wants someone, and she's not scared, she's "just a little bit shy." However, by the end of the song, she's not only asking for her partner to pull her hair, but she says she hopes to die "somewhere in between your thighs." "I wanna mark it up like 'X' and 'O' / 'Cause, baby, I'll do things your exes won't," she demurely sings.5. "Pretty Girls"Queer fans of Rapp's have a special place in their hearts for this song about flirting with a straight girl who's in a relationship with a man. Rapp doesn't complain about the situation, however, and is happy to help others figure out that they're gay.4. "Talk Too Much"In this relatable song, Rapp worries that she'll overthink and get in her own way in a relationship. Over crunchy guitars, she shows off a bit of her rocker side in this great track from the album Snow Angel.3. "Not My Fault"Rapp teamed up with superstar rapper Megan Thee Stallion for this pop single off the Mean Girls soundtrack, and the results were legendary! Taking the line "it's not my fault you're like, in love with me or something," from the movie, Rapp and Megan prove their the baddest bitches in the room and that everyone wants to go home with them.2. "Mad"Rapp's second single from Bite Me is this fun crash out anthem where Rapp sings about fighting with her girlfriend. "All of the time you wasted being mad / We could've been cute and we could've been stupid," she sings. This alt-pop song expands on Rapp's persona as the girlfriend you wish you had, even if she's messy.1. "Leave Me Alone"On this incendiary first single from Bite Me, Rapp leans into her chaotic and unapologetic public persona. She sings about breaking NDAs, getting messy at parties, and ignoring her record label. "I'm a real bad girl, but a real good kisser," she sings over rock'n'roll guitars. It's an instant classic and sure to be one of her signature songs.

Pete Buttigieg clarifies recent comments around fairness of transgender kids participation in sports
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday responded to criticism of his recent remarks about transgender athletes, telling content creator Aaron Parnas that compassion, not political theater, should guide public debate.I see this issue being used to divide. I see it being used to hurt people, Buttigieg said during a Substack Live broadcast. Its especially hurtful for trans people and people with transgender members of their family who witness themselves or people they love being used as a political football. The exchange followed a July 28 NPR Morning Edition interview in which Buttigieg framed the inclusion of transgender girls in sports as a matter of fairness, while rejecting blanket federal bans. Some Democrats, Buttigieg supporters, and LGBTQ+ advocates criticized his framing as playing into right-wing narratives. Parnas, a 26-year-old legal analyst turned social media powerhouse with over 4 million followers on TikTok and the top news-related Substack newsletter, gave Buttigieg a chance to respond directly.Related: Pete Buttigieg weighs in on fairness of transgender kids playing girls sportsWere talking about one of the smallest, as well as one of the most vulnerable minorities in this country and in the world, Buttigieg said. In order to bring people together on this, we also have to take everybody seriously, including parents who have questions. He repeated his position that decisions about participation should be handled by local communities, not lawmakers in Washington. Above all... those questions should be handled by communities and by sports leagues and not by politicians.Buttigiegs clarification comes as the Trump administration enforces executive orders banning transgender women and girls from women's sports teams. Though the policy has national reach, NCAA President Charlie Baker testified late last year that fewer than 10 transgender athletes were competing among more than 500,000 college athletes.Scientific findings on competitive advantage remain complex. In a March PBS NewsHour segment, University of Washington endocrinologist Dr. Bradley Anawalt explained that performance gaps between cisgender and adult transgender women narrow, but dont entirely disappear, after several years of hormone therapy. Military fitness data showed that trans womens running times aligned with cisgender womens after two years, while their push-up scores remained higher for the duration of a four-year study.Anawalt said that science alone may never resolve the tension. There are going to be inherent inequalities between people. And how do we limit those inequalities and yet allow everybody to play? he said. I really dont think that science is going to give us a perfect answer on this.Instead, he emphasized the cultural weight of the issue. This whole debate rages around sports because of how much we venerate sports and, at this point in time, what an economic engine its become, he said.Buttigieg echoed that broader view. Chess is different from weightlifting, he said last week. And middle school is different from the Olympics.

  • Matt Rogers In A Promotional Image For The 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards
    WWW.OUT.COM
The suppression of 'queer joy' is no match for Matt Rogers and 'Las Culturistas'
Cohosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, the fourth edition of the Las Culturistas Culture Awards is gayer and more chaotic than ever making it the perfect year to bring this ceremony to television and broadcast the award show to a wider audience of viewers from Bravo and Peacock. The totally unserious Las Culturistas Culture Awards, a spinoff project from the Las Culturistas podcast by Rogers and Yang, is the ultimate queer satire of mainstream awards shows. From time to time, however, this creative endeavor that Rogers describes as "organized gay chaos" actually gets really big and causes audiences to start treating it very seriously A mood that Rogers politely and respectfully declines to engage with."When someone is listening to Las Cultch in the year of our Lord 2025 and being like, 'Matt talks too much,' I'm like, 'Guys, please, I have been talking too much since 2016. I'm not going to change,'" Rogers tells Out. "You're often listening to us first meeting people that we've always wanted to meet. Bowen and I are active conversationalists. Our brand is organized gay chaos."When asked about the 2025 Culture Awards being broadcast on television for the first time ever, Rogers says that the experience felt like "Bowen and I were given the keys to Hollywood for a night. And I don't even mean just gay Hollywood; I mean big Hollywood." However, he also notes that it was important for them to do a "good job of speaking to our audience, and throwing in Easter eggs for the podcast, and making sure that this felt like the Las Culturistas comedy special."Rogers still gets nervous to do a good job in massive projects like the Culture Awards have become, but he's also just "accepting it as part of my process now," adding: "Four to six weeks before I do anything big, I'm having a low-grade panic attack [that I'm] not going to prepare correctly but that's just the goal-oriented, results-driven little closeted boy inside of me that had a jock dad and did sports.""I guess I'll try to remind myself in the future like, 'Relax. You don't have to wear yourself out,'" he continues. "I feel like my mission statement is, 'Don't take yourself too seriously,' so I want to take my own advice next time. Ultimately, we are really not curing cancer here."That old adage about films, TV shows, music, and video games not curing cancer remains true. On the other hand, there are times when the glitz, the glam, and the gags of an awards show yes, even a satirical one can't escape the reality existing outside of it. Rogers undoubtedly understands that responsibility. "As I'm putting the show together, seeing all that in the news, and living in the world That's when it becomes a little bit of a responsibility."But instead of losing his mind over how a comedy podcast and a satirical awards show can find the solution to world peace, Rogers smartly focuses on the ways that this platform can actually help. "This is supposed to be a fun thing; so let's make it fun, bitch," he remembers telling himself. "I just hope that people feel good when they watch it."Even though Rogers and Yang have successfully cultivated a strong, resilient, and supportive community of queer people in their lives and careers as seen in multiple episodes of Las Culturistas featuring queer peers like Joel Kim Booster, Patti Harrison, Cole Escola, Sudi Green, Aaron Jackson, Josh Sharp, among others the LGBTQ+ community at large still deals with unnecessary in-fighting and an inexplicable desire to compete with each other at all costs.Rogers obviously understands those dynamics, which can feel even more intense in the case of famous gay men feeling threatened by other famous gay men. In any case, Rogers is determined to not get distracted. "I just always focus on the gay men that are supporting, you know what I mean?" He muses. "Because they are out there. I feel the love from them all the time.""And to the gay men that are not supporting gay men: I just hope they know that I'm rooting for them as well," Rogers adds. "If you're not rooting for me, and you're not rooting for Bowen, we get it. But we're rooting for you. All we want to do is make sure that we have a fun time, and to be in projects that can represent ourselves positively."As a fellow Drag Race superfan, I bring up the absolutely bonkers reaction to Ginger Minj winning RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10, and how people direct so much intense rage at a target that won't actually solve any of their problems."I really agree with you," Rogers says. "In times of political hopelessness, and when you feel like you can't do anything to change that, something you can do is really pick on something that's frivolous, or really tear that pop girlie up 'cause of a new album. The discourse getting crazier in pop culture directly correlates to how politically abandoned, hopeless, and depressed people feel."As a result, Rogers not only hopes that the Culture Awards can help people rest for a little bit and find community through laughter, but he also thinks that queer projects like this one have a very important place in the resistance to conservative rhetoric."Of course there's reasons to be outraged, but I hope people remember that they want to exhaust us. They want to wear us down. They want us to feel like experiencing joy is a form of betrayal," he explains. "But that is not true. You can center joy, and fun, and find a way to remember why life is worth living."Rogers notes how dangerous it can be to "forget what we're fighting for and how good life can be when it's good." It's also easy to fall into the traps of "anyone that wants us to be less powerful," he explains, even though "one of the great things about the queer community is how smart, how diverse, and how funny we are."Between so many relentless attacks directed at members of the LGBTQ+ community, Rogers shares an interesting perspective. "The fact that we can see culture from the outside because we've been pushed to the outside of it means we can see things clearly. There's so much opportunity just in being who we are, and the fact that we do have this community."Considering the lineup of guests, honorees, and presenters at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Rogers says: "I hope that people look up on stage and we have Sasha Colby in the show alongside Jeff Goldblum. I just want to show the tent actually is big and there is a lot of fun to be had. And people want to participate in it."Is Rogers interested in the idea of keeping the Las Culturistas Culture Awards on television, and perhaps even scaling it up for a live broadcast?"Yeah! I think the question is, would they?" Rogers teases. " I don't say 'no' to anything anymore, or wonder if it could happen. I've been blown away so many times. If Bowen and I put our minds to it, we can do it. Right now I just want to make sure people can see the live-to-tape one, and then we'll talk about doing it live."Rogers muses, "I do think there is something special about being able to keep all the secrets, you know what I mean? Even all the red carpet looks are already online, and I'm like, 'Ah, I wish that the first time people saw Paige DeSorbo's outfit was on stage, or when she's in the crowd.'"But a lot of people don't keep up with social media in such a way, Rogers knows. "And this is on Bravo, so it's going to be a discovery for a lot of them. I'm excited about that."The 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards airs tonight at 9 p.m. on Bravo. The broadcast will be available for streaming on Peacock the very next day.

  • Hunter Doohan Shirtless In Season 2 Of Wednesday
    WWW.OUT.COM
Wednesday's Hunter Doohan talks his return as a hunky Hyde
Its been a wild three years for Hunter Doohan. The actor, now 31, scored his first speaking part on Westworld in 2018. He followed with breakthrough roles in Apple TV+s Truth Be Told and Showtimes Your Honor. But it was Netflixs Wednesday that catapulted him to star status after the first seasons release in 2022. Tim Burtons Addams Family spin-off was a commercial hit for the streaming giant as well as a viral sensation; Jenna Ortegas Fosse-inspired school dance number, with Doohan as her awestruck date, became ubiquitous on social media and a milestone moment in pop culture.I had done Your Honor, and I kind of thought that was the level of things, Doohan says of his spike in popularity. And then Wednesday came out, and it truly was just like overnight. It felt like the level of exposure had changed. Its a weird thing to try to get used to. I dont know if Im there yet, but its been fun. Many big things have happened for Doohan since Wednesday put him in the spotlight. Not only did he marry his husband just a month after the show premiered (the wedding was officiated by his Your Honor costar Bryan Cranston), but he has also landed a wide range of roles, including the sadistic big bad of Daredevil: Born Again, a serial killer named Muse. He also recently signed on to play a lead role in the next installment of the beloved Evil Dead franchise. But next up, hes making his eagerly anticipated return to the creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky world of Wednesday, which returned for its second season August 6. In it, Doohan reprises his role as Tyler Galpin, the love interest of Wednesday Addams (Ortega). Well, maybe not so much a love interest anymore. As fans may recall, Tyler was not the sweet normie next door we thought he was. In the penultimate episode of season 1, he was revealed to be a Hyde an unhinged, bulgy-eyed creature whose species was banned from Nevermore Academy. After his murderous antics were put to an end, a defeated Tyler was last seen being hauled off to Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital. Even though Tyler had deceived Wednesday, Doohan teases that there could still be a complicated romance between the two. 'Wednesday' star Hunter Doohan returns for season 2 of the popular Netflix series.AB+DM/Netflix I think Tyler is flirting and trying to get under her skin, Doohan reveals while talking about Tylers first pivotal scene with Wednesday, which comes in episode 2 of season 2. I think hes been dreaming of her coming to see him. And I think he feels really hurt and abandoned by her when he thought she was the only one who wouldnt do that to him. So hes definitely full of rage and wanting revenge after that encounter. As for what twists and turns fans can expect this season, Doohan remains tight-lipped, but describes this seasons story as bigger and complex with so many layers to it, teasing that, for Tyler, theres something huge that people are not going to see coming. Its a wild ride. When we first see Tyler this season, hes imprisoned in a cell, shackled in chains with a shock collar around his neck. Its very reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. Once again, Doohan gets to chew the scenery with that complex Tyler/Hyde duality, while drawing inspiration from some notable movie maniacs. I kind of just sat in my apartment chained up a lot, he quips with a laugh. Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar], our showrunners, were like, This scene is so Hello, Clarice. Even in season 1, when I did that turn in the police station, I was using [The Silence of the Lambs] as a touch point for me. Heath Ledgers Joker is one of the greatest villain turns of all time, and then, like, Edward Norton in Primal Fear was one. Even Scream, like Billy Loomis that switch those were probably the four references that we would talk about. The same scene Doohan is discussing has his gay fan base in a tizzy. You see, Tyler is shirtless and in chains when Wednesday comes to see him, and theres a promo photo floating around that has his admirers swooning. You read the script and its like, Chained, shirtless, hmm theres a layer of vanity. You want to look your best, he explains when asked if he bulked up for this season. But I tried to make sense of it too, because obviously, when Tyler turns into Hyde, is where he has his full strength and power, but we do establish he has some of his ability when hes in his human form. Theres moments in the season where I throw somebody across a room just as Tyler. Cant do that in real life, but wanted to try my best to look as capable as possible. I wanted him to feel feral and like a caged animal, a little bit. Doohan appears "chained and shirtless" in season 2 of 'Wednesday.'Jonathan Hession/NetflixDoohan is aware that the thirst is real within his fan base. After all, his fans did get a good look at his physique when he shared his 2023 Calvin Klein underwear photos on his official Instagram. As for being seen as a sex symbol within the gay community and the flirtatious social media responses that come with it, he says, Its fun. Bring it on. Love it.So, whats next for Doohan? The rising star says he plans to change it up a bit and steer away from those juicy villain roles. This fall, hell be seen in The Wilderness, which he calls a very grounded real-life drama. And of course, theres the aforementioned Evil Dead Burn, where he plays a character he describes as very different. Im just so excited to step into that world, and our director, Sbastien Vaniek, is amazing; his first film, Infested, was so sick! exclaims Doohan, who is pumped about joining the long-running horror franchise. Hes the perfect person to take the reins on this new one, Evil Dead Burn; its gonna be amazing. With Wednesday, Daredevil: Born Again, and the upcoming Evil Dead Burn on his rsum, Doohan is over the moon about being a part of three franchises that have such rich histories and passionate fan bases. Hes grateful for being offered a wide range of roles. Even though the characters hes best known for arent explicitly queer, hes certainly auditioned for some gay roles and hopes to one day land the right one. Im out and a gay actor, and I feel really lucky that Ive gotten to play a wide range of roles. I think Im so lucky to be living in a time where that doesnt feel as much of a limitation, he shares. I truthfully havent been offered a bunch of gay roles. And I would love to play a queer character, not for the sake of it being queer, but like a great character who is queer. Ive auditioned for a bunch [laughs] but havent gotten cast as them. But thatll come and Ill find a great script.Im just grateful for the queer actors before me and just queer people in general who have paved the way for me to be able to have this privilege of being able to play these characters, he adds. Jonathan Bailey is a huge inspiration for me. Look at the films and franchises hes leading as a leading man, and thats really inspiring. There is one other gig on Doohans wish list and its not what you think. During the production of Wednesday season 1, Doohan binge-watched 14 seasons of RuPauls Drag Race and became a superfan. With his acting chops, gay heartthrob status, and a love for fashion (he attended Saint Laurents show June 24, during Paris Mens Fashion Week), hed certainly make a great guest judge or participant in an acting challenge, wouldnt he?Listen, from your lips to Rus ears, lets go, he says. That is literally a dream bucket list item for me. I definitely want to be there at some point.Season 2 of Wednesday will debut Thursday on Netflix. Watch the trailer below. This article is part of Out's Sept/Oct 2025 issue, which hits newsstands August 26. Support queer media and subscribe or download the issue through Apple News, Zinio, Nook, or PressReader starting August 14.

44 trades of the season who had 'Drag Race' fans feeling thirsty
These queens could join the Pit Crew!"Trade" was a term originally assigned to hyper-masculine, straight-passing (or not gay-identified) men who were often seen as object of desire for queer and/or trans people. The term comes from the idea that these men had (or could have) "trade jobs" without being singled out as effeminate by their straight coworkers. However, the definition of "trade" has evolved over the years particularly through the evolution of RuPaul's Drag Race as a mainstream series to mean that a more masculine-leaning guy looks good. While there are people in the LGBTQ+ community who still try to respect the term's original meaning, there are also those who have welcomed the broadening of the term beyond what's perceived as "desirable" through being "masculine."Considering this new interpretation of "trade," we've come up with a list of Drag Race alumni who have been labeled "trades of the season" by the fans.Keep scrolling to check out some of the best "trades of the season" in the RuPaul's Drag Race franchise.Pythia ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 2) (@) Instagram: @pythia.queenX/Twitter: @queenpythiaPearl ('Drag Race' Season 7)See on InstagramInstagram: @pearliaisonKween Kong ('Drag Race Down Under' Season 2; 'Global All Stars 1')See on InstagramInstagram: @kweenkongofficialAlt Instagram: @thomascharlesfonuaLina Galore ('Drag Race Italia' Season 3) (@) Instagram: @lina.galoreX/Twitter: @lina_galorePangina Heals ('Drag Race Thailand' Judge; 'UK vs the World' Season 1)See on InstagramInstagram: @panginahealsNaysha Lopez ('Drag Race' Season 8; 'All Stars 8')See on InstagramInstagram: @nayshalopezGala Varo ('Drag Race Mxico' Season 1; 'Global All Stars 1')See on InstagramInstagram: @gala.varoKameron Michaels ('Drag Race' Season 10)See on InstagramInstagram: @kameronmichaelsMaxie ('Drag Race Philippines' Season 3)See on InstagramInstagram: @maxieandreisonMiss Abby OMG ('Drag Race Holland' Season 1)See on InstagramInstagram: @missabbyomgElektra Shock ('Drag Race Down Under' Season 1)See on InstagramInstagram: @therealelektrashockVenus ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 4) (@) Instagram: @legallyvenusX/Twitter: @legallyvenusAnetra ('Drag Race' Season 15)See on InstagramInstagram: @iamanetraJade Sotomayor ('Drag Race' Season 1)See on InstagramInstagram: @jadesotomayorKori King ('Drag Race' Season 17)See on InstagramInstagram: @korikingDawn ('Drag Race' Season 16)See on InstagramInstagram: @upuntil.dawnX/Twitter: @upuntil_dawnPriscilla ('Drag Race Italia' Judge)See on InstagramInstagram: @priscilla_dragElla Vaday ('Drag Race UK' Season 3)See on InstagramInstagram: @ellavadayMocha Diva ('Drag Race Thailand' Season 2)See on InstagramInstagram: @itsmochadivaLa Grande Dame ('Drag Race France' Season 1; 'UK vs the World' Season 2)See on InstagramInstagram: @lagrande_dameYvie Oddly ('Drag Race' Season 11; 'All Stars 7')See on InstagramInstagram: @oddlyyvieSam Star ('Drag Race' Season 17)See on InstagramInstagram: @samstarqueenGrag Queen ('Drag Race Brasil' Judge)See on InstagramInstagram: @gragqueenGottmik ('Drag Race' Season 13)See on InstagramInstagram: @gottmikKaos ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 3)See on InstagramInstagram: @thekaosofjesiloAlyssa Hunter ('Drag Race' Season 14)See on InstagramInstagram: @thealyssahunterAura Mayari ('Drag Race' Season 15)See on InstagramInstagram: @auramayariJoey Jay ('Drag Race' Season 13)See on InstagramInstagram: @joeyjayisgayXunami Muse ('Drag Race' Season 16)See on InstagramInstagram: @xunamimuseTessa Testicle ('Drag Race Germany' Season 1; 'Global All Stars 1')See on InstagramInstagram: @tessatesticleAlt Instagram: @lorenzoraoulJackie Cox ('Drag Race' Season 12)See on InstagramInstagram: @jackiecoxnycMilk ('Drag Race' Season 6; 'All Stars 3')See on InstagramInstagram: @bigandmilkyEva Le Queen ('Drag Race Philippines' Season 1; 'Global All Stars 1')See on InstagramInstagram: @eva_lequeenNaomi Smalls ('Drag Race' Season 8; 'All Stars 4')See on InstagramInstagram: @naomismallsDenali ('Drag Race' Season 13)See on InstagramInstagram: @denalifoxxDenim ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 4) (@) Instagram: @denimjustdenimMont X Change ('Drag Race' Season 10; 'All Stars 4'; 'All Stars 7')See on InstagramInstagram: @monetxchangePlane Jane ('Drag Race' Season 16)See on InstagramInstagram: @the_planejaneThe Vivienne ('Drag Race UK' Season 1; 'All Stars 7')See on InstagramInstagram: @thevivienne_Vanessa Vanjie ('Drag Race' Season 10; Season 11; 'All Stars 9')See on InstagramInstagram: @vanessavanjieLady Camden ('Drag Race' Season 14)See on InstagramInstagram: @ladycamdenTayce ('Drag Race UK' Season 2)See on InstagramInstagram: @itstayceRos ('Drag Race' Season 13)See on InstagramInstagram: @omgheyroseLucky Starzzz ('Drag Race' Season 17)See on InstagramInstagram: @theluckystarzzz

New York opens nation's first city-funded shelter specifically for trans people
A city-funded shelter specifically for transgender and gender-nonconforming people experiencing homelessness has opened in New York City, and its operators say its the first of its kind in the nation. The shelter is located in Long Island City, a neighborhood in Queens, and managed by Destination Tomorrow, a Bronx-based LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization, Gothamist reports. Its called Aces Place in honor of the late mother of Sean Ebony Coleman, the founder and CEO of Destination Tomorrow. Her nickname was Ace.It has room for 150 people, increasing the citys capacity to serve trans and gender-nonconforming people. The city is already required to provide at least 30 shelter beds for this population under a lawsuit settlement, and it houses them according to their gender identity. It will cost the city $65 million to run Ace's Place through 2030.The opening of Aces Place is an important move forward at a time when trans Americans are under attack, Coleman told Gothamist. Weve watched so many other corporations and foundations and businesses just like completely turn their back on the community, and the city didnt do it, said Coleman, who is transmasculine. The city is keeping in line with what New York City has always been, a sanctuary city, a safe haven, but more importantly, a trendsetter when it comes to LGBTQ rights.Related: Court blocks Trump admin's anti-LGBTQ+ restrictions on grants for domestic violence and homeless sheltersAlmost a third of trans Americans have experienced homelessness at some time in their lives, according to the 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey.Whether that starts with being kicked out of the home or discrimination in the employment market or all kinds of other things, this is a group that faces real challenges in the housing sector, Molly Wasow Park, commissioner of the citys Department of Social Services, told Gothamist.Coleman said Aces Place will provide its residents an environment that completely affirms who they are and how they see themselves, which mentally gives you the strength to face any challenge you have. Its an opportunity for you to come home and for you to get loved up on and get all of the things that you need to get right back out here and face this world, Coleman added.

  • Watermarked Footage Still Renee Rapp At Least Im Hot Episode Call Her Daddy Youtube Show

Rene Rapp 'relieved' to address cheating in new albumbut not everyone is thrilled
Rene Rapp released her sophomore album, Bite Me, on Friday, and one line is creating quite a stir on social media. On Bite Me's final song, Youd Like That Wouldnt You, Rapp sings, And I swear Id never ever, ever, ever cheat again. This line caused an uproar among online users who interpreted it as Rapp addressing her relationship with her ex, Alissa Carrington. Many accused her of being the toxic ex or that shes "glorifying cheating." On the Wednesday episode of Alex Cooper's podcast Call Her Daddy, Rapp was asked about the line. She revealed that she almost didn't put it in the album. It "stressed" her out, she told the podcast host, but she ultimately decided to keep the phrase in the song. "I feel so relieved to be able to poke fun at something so horrible that happened to me and make light of it and something that I did at one point that Im not proud of," the singer said on the show. "I was like, this feels so fucking good to get out."Rapp also said that she was worried about the impact of the lyrics, telling Cooper, "And then months later I was like, Oh my god, what if it isnt received in the right way? I dont know if I want to put that much of my personal life out there. I don't know what I did.' Ultimately, what I always come back to is, no one knows every intimate detail of my life. This is how it should be. That is OK. I made something that I am really proud of."This isn't the first time Rapp addressed infidelity. When she was on comedian Ziwe Fumudoh's show in June, the Mean Girls star was directly asked if she had ever cheated and the pop star said yes. "It was fucked up, she said during the interview. "I was in a miserable relationship, which doesnt excuse cheating. Im not saying that. It doesnt excuse cheating. - YouTube She continued, "I got super drunk with one of my friends, and then I woke up the next morning, and was like, All right, I think its time to pack this one up.'" Rapp didn't share specifics on which relationship she was referring to her current one with Towa Bird or her ex, Carrington. But this conversation made its way to TikTok and X, where people shared their opinions about the content in Rapp's album. @maxxed_out_mac This isnt a critique on whether or not I think the album is good #reneerapp #biteme #cheater #toxicrelationship #toxicex "I think a lot of people are upset about Rene Rapp's album because she is the toxic ex, she is the person her fans want her to be writing about, when in fact she is that person," TikToker user @maxxed_out_mc said in a video that has over 266,000 views. "She is self-reflective and is very clearly is aware that she has these problems, and hopefully she's working on them. But I don't think her fans or people listening to the album know how to process that information because I think a lot of people listening to the album are the ones who have been hurt," and see their ex in Rapp. This analysis seems to encapsulate the anti-cheating discourse that is forming online. Some social media users have used the audio from the song with that one specific line and made videos side-eyeing the camera. @jessicafegeley EDIT: Guys please be kinder to each other in the comments. I simply dont like how the line and this sound is downplaying cheating and making it seem normalized. I have been a fan of hers for years. I just dont like how she keeps bringing cheating up and how she has spoken about it in interviews. That doesnt mean we should be fighting and talking about such serious topics in the comments and making assumptions about anyones life. I just think cheating is bad. Thats it. #reneerapp #biteme #newmusic #cheating #cheater @retireds1ut #reneerapp Others have made more analytical looks into the nature of Rapp's dating life. One TikTok creator, @TellTheBees, broke down his thoughts on the matter in a video that accumulated over 600,000 views in less than 24 hours. @tellthebeees Thank you to @shark bait for the timeline and @maxxed_out_mac for the moralizing point!! #americancheating #reneerapp #affair #cheating #towabird #tellthebeees #slocg Rapp's thoughts on cheating aren't the only juicy part of this interview with Cooper. She also addressed (well, as much as she could) her abrupt exit from the hit HBO Max series, Sex Lives of College Girls. For that and more, watch the full video on the Call Her Daddy YouTube page.

JD Vance's leaked Spotify playlist is filled with gay anthems
JD Vance's "hidden tastes" on Spotify have been revealed and they include a taste for Whitney and boy bands. The vice president is one of the many Trump administration officials to have their Spotify playlists leaked in by a website called Panama Playlists, a reference to Panama Papers, a 2016 leak that revealed offshore accounts of wealthy people. The website, which was initially reported on by WIRED, was anonymously published and has text that reads, "I found the real Spotify accounts of celebrities, politicians, and journalists. Many use their real names. With a little investigating, I could say with near-certainty: Yep, this is that person."The text continues, "Some individuals even have a setting enabled that displays their last played song. I scraped this continuously, so I know what songs they played, how many times, and when. It concludes by saying, "The Panama Papers revealed hidden bank accounts. This reveals hidden tastes. One of those people whose listening habits were revealed in this leak was Vance. The account that allegedly belongs to the vice president has public playlists called "Gold on the Ceiling," seemingly a reference to the newly announced $200 million changes to the White House ballroom, including two large flagpoles and new gold decorations. On this playlists, listeners can find a number of queer anthems, including "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston. There's also hits by boy bands like "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction and "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys on a second playlist called "Making Dinner." That second playlist also includes songs like "One Time" by Justin Bieber and two Florence + The Machine songs.Other Trump officials who had their listening habits leaked online were Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a vocal opponent of the LGBTQ+ community who had a playlist with Queen, Elton John, and Miley Cyrus; Attorney General Pam Bondi; and Jacob Helberg, a gay nominee for U.S. under secretary of State for economic growth, energy, and the environment.

'Project Runway' alum alleges Andy Cohen was more of a 'predator' on set than Harvey Weinstein
Project Runway is back on the air again, which seems to have prompted one alum to air her grievances against the show and former executive producer Andy Cohen. Season 5 contestant Kenley Collins opened up in an explosive social media post, criticizing the reality TV design competition and comparing Cohen to convicted sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.Do you guys really think Harvey Weinstein was the worst one on set? Andy Cohen was, Collins alleges in a series of videos she posted on her Instagram account. The Weinstein Company produced the early seasons of the show when it was airing on Bravo, and Cohen, who Collins alleges was a predator on set, was also an executive producer from 2004 to 2008.Andy Cohen was disgusting, horrible, worst, predator with the gays, hopping around the set like, Hey Twinks! Collins alleged.See on InstagramThe Project Runway and All Stars alum claims that she witnessed the longtime Bravo host and producer of propositioning designers to have a threesome. We called you The Gay Weinstein, acting like a f*cking clown on set, Collins said. The 37-year-old fashion designer also brought up allegations made by Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Nene Leakes and referenced the ongoing court cases that have claimed Cohen is guilty of establishing a hostile workplace.NBC can pay all the money in the world to cover your ass after Nene spoke the truth about you, Kenley continued. Youre a racist predator. Youre finished.See on InstagramAlthough she dropped her lawsuit in 2022, Leakes claimed that Cohen and other network executives from Bravo and NBC Universal violated federal employment and anti-discrimination laws by fostering "a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated if not, encouraged, People reported. But she isnt the only one who alleges that Cohen and other producers are bad actors. Former Real Housewives of New York City star Leah McSweeney has an ongoing lawsuit against Cohen, Bravo Media, NBC Universal Media, Warner Bros. Discovery, production company Shed Media US, and two producers who she alleges exploited her addiction while she was on the show.In March, the judge dismissed all of the charges except for three of McSweeneys disability-related claims, and an outside investigation into the claims that McSweeney and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Brandi Glanville made against Cohen was found to be unsubstantiated. In a follow-up post on Instagram, Collins thanked her fans for their support and alluded to the possibility that she would reveal more details in the future. Its been a scary yet freeing past few days. Im not stopping. There is more to come, she captioned the post. Thank you guys for the love and support. I did not expect that. Im very touched. Stay tuned.Cohen did not immediately respond to PRIDEs request for comment.

During the episode, Appleton discussed his headlines-making marriage with The White Lotus, Euphoria, and Road House actor Lukas Gage ever since they split as a couple.Shetty asked Appleton how it felt to navigate a relationship with Gage given that this was a "public romantic relationship," noting that Appleton hadn't "even [been] in a relationship with a man" famous or otherwise before it.Chris Appleton went "through a lot of private pain" at the time he was with Lukas Gage. See on Instagram "This is the first time I've ever spoken about this," Appleton replied. "I think people have this perception from social mediaI have it together, I work with these amazing people, life looks glamorous. From the outside it probably looks like I've got it all together. But the truth is, especially during that time, I was going through a lot of private pain."Appleton struggled with having a public relationship that the entire world could comment on and criticize, he says. The celebrity hairstylist credits therapy for helping him "sit in my feelings and really go through them."Appleton has two kids, Billy and Kitty, who are both reportedly in their early 20s. "I don't mind people saying good and bad things," he explained. "But, for me, as a dad, I wanted to protect my kidsI'm very aware that any relationship I go into, there will be a conversation around that.""You know, you can love someone and then not be a forever happy ending. You learn so much from it; any relationship I've ever gone into, I've learned so much from it.""Moving fast doesn't always mean you're reckless," the celebrity hairstylist insists. Chris Appleton at the Elton John Academy Awards Viewing Party in March 2025.Kathy Hutchins/Shutterstock"It was you who filed for divorce, right?" Shetty asked. "Like, you were the one who ended it?" Appleton said yes, leading Shetty to follow up, "When you look at that in the perspective of the whole conversation that we've had, and everything you've been through, I can imagine that's not easy."Appleton insisted that "just because it's not forever doesn't mean it didn't mean something." For instance, he notes that "it's a bit like going to buy a house: I like bright and lots of space; I don't like confined and dark. Some people do. And that's OK. We're just not aligned."As Appleton circled back to the concept of being "aligned," Shetty asked, "Why do you think you didn't have that alignment when you met [Gage]? Because [the relationship] moved fast, right?"Moving fast doesn't always mean you're reckless. Sometimes it means you're hopeful," Appleton said. "I think we shame people too much for leading with an open heartespecially when it doesn't work out."Appleton described that he has an amazing family and a career that he's worked hard for. "An ending doesn't mean that it didn't mean anything," he insisted. "It just means it ended."Chris Appleton believes that people "bring old trauma and baggage into a relationship." See on Instagram Appleton appeared on the On Purpose podcast to discuss and promote his first book, Your Roots Don't Define You, which is set to come out on January 20, 2026. Shetty, the podcast host, asked, "Why did it feel again important for you to talk about it now as part of this journey with the book?""I would like to share my experience so people can relate and maybe not feel so alone," Appleton said. "It doesn't matter what the situation was that you got stuck in: You can move on. You can evolve your life. You can have a comeback at any age."He went on, "Love is messy; people are complicated. We all bring our old trauma and baggage into a relationship, whether you're willing to admit it or not."Chris Appleton breaks down the importance of identifying a "pattern" in one's life. See on Instagram The celebrity hairstylist hopes that the book can help people see themselves and those around him as they really are.Appleton mused, "When you really see people and you break it down to like, 'Why have you always done this? Why have you always repeated this behavior? Why have you always gotten yourself into the same situation? Why have you gotten yourself into the same relationship?' There's a pattern to it.""Once you see the pattern, and once you break it down, [then] you can change it," he said. "I did it with hair for a long time, but I didn't realize I was also doing it in an internal way. Everyone can relate to the saying, 'Your hairdresser is your therapist.' But I didn't even know I was doing that."Chris Appleton's book, Your Roots Don't Define You, is now available for preorders ahead of its January 2026 release. Back in July, Rebecca Cutter Variety about her ideas for a second season. "I think we'd do a little bit of a time jump not a year, but a time."Cutter continued, "By the end of shooting, I realized that the two engines of the show are the whodunit and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those spines intersect with each other." Cutter says the first thing she is thinking about is diving into the women more deeply."Where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship?" she wondered. Piers Morgan says Beyonc is 'culturally appropriating Marilyn Monroe'
British talk show host Piers Morgan was the center of a fandom discourse again. The conservative on-air figure shared his opinions on Beyonc's latest Levi's campaign on X and attempted to argue that the superstar was "culturally appropriating Marilyn Monroe." The ad, which had nods to the late pop cultural figure mainly because of the way she styled her hair, features Beyonc taking off her jeans in a laundromat, working in a diner wearing an all denim outfit, and playing pool in a Canadian tuxedo.Morgan responded to the new ad sharing his disappointment in an X post that reads:"Very disappointed to see Beyonc culturally appropriating Marilyn Monroe in her new Levi's ad." (@) If there's one fervent fanbase you don't want to mess with, it's the BeyHive. His comments section quickly became flooded with replies, coming to the defense of Queen Bey."Marilyn Monroe is not a culture, she's a public figure and pop icon. Emulating her aesthetic is no more 'cultural appropriation' than a British man dressing like James Dean. Beyonc channeling Monroe is an homage, something white celebrities have done with Black icons for decades without critique," one commenter wrote. "The selective outrage reeks of double standards."Morgan insisted that his original post was a joke after a tidal wave of criticism from the BeyHive. "I would say I can't believe anyone took my obvious Beyonc joke post seriously, but I forgot the woke brigade have no sense of humor," he wrote. (@) This exchange came in the wake of Sydney Sweeney's controversial American Eagle ads that many claimed to be a Nazi dog whistle and contained an undercurrent of racist ideologies. Since the ad was released, it's been embraced by right-wing talking heads and even President Donald Trump, who praised the new campaign, calling it, "The hottest ad out there."

However, their friendship is facing some strain, as Wednesday had a vision that Enid would be doomed, and has a new friend, Evie.Emma Myers who plays Enid told Deadline that she thinks Enid is feeling replaced, and "a bit insecure in their friendship, and doesn't know why Wednesday's pushing her out," adding: "It's definitely an interesting dynamic and journey to explore in this new season, because we haven't seen them like this before." "I think they both have a sort of unspoken understanding of one another," she continued. "When Enid sees that Wednesday's pushing her out, she doesn't realize why, because she thinks they got past that last season. There's this little push and pull that both of them have, and it's very confusing for her."While many of the show's viewers ship Wednesday and Enid, both characters have had exclusively male love interests. In the first season, Wednesday was in a love triangle with Xavier (Percy Hynes White) and Tyler (Hunter Doohan). In the current season, Enid is stuck choosing between two boys: Ajax (Georgie Famer) and Bruno (Noah B. • Apple Ceo Tim Cook Displays An Engraved Glass Disc Presented To Us President Donald Trump During An Event In The Oval Office
    WWW.OUT.COM
Apple CEO Tim Cook bends the knee to Donald Trump with a golden gift & $100 billion pledge
Apple CEO Tim Cook arrived at the White House on Wednesday with a handcrafted sculpture, a $100 billion commitment, and a message: Apple is on board.Standing beside President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Cook unveiled a one-of-a-kind glass engraving produced in Kentucky and mounted on a 24-karat gold base from Utah. Its a unique unit of one, he said, adding that it was designed by a former U.S. Marine now working at Apple. Trump smiled. Ill take the liberty of setting it up, the 64-year-old billionaire said. Then Cook clumsily placed the glass disc into the slot of the golden base upon the presidents desk, at first struggling to make it fit.Congratulations, Mr. President, he said, approaching Trump with an outstretched hand as though he had just won a prestigious award. Thats fantastic, he said. The great people of Kentucky. Youre going to find it a great place to do business, too.Related: Apple CEO Tim Cook pledges $100 billion for Trump manufacturing programThe theatrics masked a deeper truth: Cook bent the knee, not out of ideology, but out of necessity. Apple faces up to $1.1 billion in new tariff costs this quarter alone, and the White House is threatening a 100 percent import tax on foreign-made semiconductors. But companies that build in the United States, Trump said, will be spared. Apple CEO Tim Cook (right) displays an engraved glass disc presented to U.S. President Donald Trump during an event in the Oval Office, Washington D.C., August 2025Win McNamee/Getty ImagesCooks appearance came as Apple pledged an additional $100 billion toward its U.S. manufacturing efforts, raising its total investment to $600 billion over four years. In return, the company secured a coveted exemption from Trumps new tariff on semiconductors. That exemption came just hours before Trumps sweeping new tariff regime took effect Thursday morning. The administrations so-called reciprocal tariffs now impose double-digit duties on imports from nearly 70 countries, up to 50 percent on Indian goods, 39 percent on Swiss imports, and 35 percent on Canadian exports. Even allies like Japan, South Korea, and the EU were hit with 15 percent penalties, despite last-minute negotiations.Related: Apple CEO Tim Cook joins other major business leaders with $1 million personal donation to Trumps inaugurationApple is especially vulnerable. Its supply chain stretches from China to India to Vietnam, regions now targeted by Trumps trade war. Last quarter alone, Cook told investors that tariffs cost Apple $800 million. For a company long synonymous with globalism and design minimalism, the geopolitical storm has forced a shift in posture toward appeasement, nationalism, and political pageantry. It isnt Cooks first act of political choreography. The out gay CEO donated $1 million to Trumps 2025 inauguration, attended his Mar-a-Lago dinner ahead of the second term, and successfully lobbied for tariff carve-outs in 2019. Trump once praised him as a friend and called him, memorably, Tim Apple. Their transactional bond has only deepened during Trumps second term. (@) But the stakes are different now. Trump has escalated his war on global supply chains, levied new penalties on countries like India, and revived a nationalist industrial policy under the banner of American manufacturing. Cook, long a symbol of technocratic distance from MAGA politics, is now a central player in its economic revival. And with Trumps second-term administration aggressively targeting transgender Americans, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ rights more broadly, Cooks alignment raises urgent questions about complicity and cost.Cook showed up, smiled, and offered tribute. The gesture may have spared Apples bottom line, but it also clarified the cost of doing business under Trump.Youve been a great advocate for American innovation and manufacturing, Cook said.

  • Pete Buttigieg And Cnn Moderator Anderson Cooper On Stage While Protester Unveils Transgender Flag Says We Are Dying At Human Ri
    WWW.OUT.COM
Pete Buttigieg's betrayal of trans people will cost the Democratic Party
Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is one of the Democratic Party's leading potential candidates for a presidential run in 2028. Sadly, like other Democrats, it seems like one of his first moves to try to appeal to a broader voting base is to abandon trans people.Buttigieg, like fellow Democrats Rahm Emmanuel and Gavin Newsom, has recently decided that he no longer fully supports trans rights. Now, he says there are "serious fairness issues" in the area of trans athletes, a talking point that comes straight from the Republican Party."The approach starts with compassion," Buttigieg said in an NPR interview about trans participation in sports. "Compassion for transgender people, compassion for families, especially young people who are going through this, and also empathy for people who are not sure what all of this means for them. Like, wondering, 'Wait a minute. I got a daughter in a sports league. Is she going to be competing with boys right now?' And just taking everybody seriously.""I think when you do that, that does call into question some of the past orthodoxies of my party, he added. "For example, around sports, where I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious fairness issues if you just treat this as not mattering when a trans athlete wants to compete in womens sports."After these remarks drew criticism from the LGBTQ+ community and allies, who pointed out that there is no scientific evidence showing trans athletes have an unfair advantage over cis athletes, Buttigieg responded. This time, the gay politician said that, while he has compassion for trans kids who are "being used as a political football," he also thinks "in order to bring people together on this, we also have to take everyone seriously.""People who have questions or wonder what this means they're going to have questions about how to make sure that's fair, and we should take those questions seriously and face those together," he added. With this stance, Buttigieg is not only capitulating to anti-LGBTQ+ conservatives and their arguments about trans people, but he is turning his back on the trans community. First of all, it bears repeating there is no scientific evidence that trans athletes have an inherent advantage over cis athletes. In general, studies find that trans individuals, following gender affirming hormone therapy, become more similar to their gender identity (post-transition) cisgender counterparts, or are somewhere between the expected male and female averages, D.J. Oberlin, an assistant professor of exercise science at CUNY Lehman, wrote in a comprehensive review of studies on trans participation in sports.Oberlin noted that while studies show only 0.5 percent to 0.6 percent of the population is trans, 2.3 percent of the population is "likely to fall above two standard deviations from a population mean" when it comes to height, weight, strength, and skill. There is no concern for restricting individuals who are exceptionally large or small, those who are genetically gifted, or those with differing hormone concentrations or muscle mass, so long as their gender and biologic sex align," he continued.Once you open your eyes to that reality, it becomes clear that the claim of "unfairness" is nothing more than a distraction a tactic from the right to make oppression sound more reasonable. This fearmongering echoes arguments Republicans made in the past against same-sex marriage. Politicians would rail on about protecting the "sanctity of marriage." Meanwhile, many of them would get divorced or cheat on their spouses. The Trump administration has employed the exact same "fairness" language Buttigieg has used to defend its attacks on trans youth."In recent years, many educational institutions and athletic associations have allowed men to compete in womens sports," states the Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports executive order. "This is demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports.""Therefore, it is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy," the order continues. "It shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in womens sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth."Notice how the White House ties in fairness with "dignity and truth," and says that allowing "men to compete in women's sports" isn't just unfair, but is "demeaning" and "dangerous to women and girls."In reality, the specter of "fairness" in girls' sports is just a Trojan horse so that the political right can advance its more insidious beliefs about trans people. The "fairness" issue about trans girls in sports cannot be separated from transphobic lies about trans women being monsters, being violent, and being men.Megan Peterson, executive director at Gender Justice, says that the anti-trans movement has taken advantage of the fact that "sports tap into deep cultural values: fairness, competition, belonging.""The anti-trans movement has weaponized these values, spreading myths that trans athletes pose a threat, echoing the racist rhetoric used to justify the exclusion of Black athletes that they have an unfair advantage, their presence will ruin the game, that they dont belong," she stated in a February opinion piece in the Minnesota Star Tribune. "The fixation on trans athletes is a smokescreen. This movement isnt really about protecting women or girls, competition or fairness its about controlling who gets to exist openly and freely in our society."It's no longer just the right who is fixated on the "smokescreen" of fairness. Democrats are in on it, too, even Democrats who are allies or are queer themselves. The "LGB without the T" movement isn't new. For years, there have been groups of conservative queer people who want to exclude trans people from their movement. They say that trans people are extremists who are trying to rewrite the rules of reality and have nothing to do with gay rights. Now, this messaging is gaining momentum, even within Trump's government. Buttigieg's recent comments will only help it continue to do that. This summer, The New York Times published several articles advancing this view."They demanded that the entire society change in a fundamental way so that the sex binary no longer counted," Andrew Sullivan wrote in a guest essay about the "trans extremists" he argues have taken over the queer community. "Elementary school children were taught that being a boy or a girl might not have anything to do with their bodies and that their parents had merely guessed whether they were a boy or a girl when they were born. In fact, sex was no longer to be recognized at birth it was now merely assigned, penciled in."Sullivan maintained that while trans adults should have rights, including access to gender-affirming care, he argued that "fighting a losing battle to allow trans women to compete in womens sports and for biological men to be in womens intimate spaces and to perpetuate risky, inadequately tested sex changes on children, including gay and lesbian ones, is dumb, offensive to common sense and risks a much bigger backlash."It seems the Democratic Party, with leaders like Buttigieg and Newsom, agrees. In his comments, Buttigieg admitted that he knows trans youth are one of the "most vulnerable minorities in this country and in the world." So why won't he fight for them? It seems like Democrats have decided that supporting trans youth is a losing battle, and even if it is morally right, it's not worth the fight anymore. If the gay leaders in the party won't stand up for trans youth, will anyone? As more and more Democrats join in on Republican talking points about trans people, it's becoming more and more clear why a queer artist like Chappell Roan would decline to endorse Kamala Harris in her presidential run last year. The Democratic Party is making it clear that it doesn't see trans people as a priority. So it should come as no surprise that trans folks and their allies would soon return the favor.Mey Rude is a staff writer for Out.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. And no one could tell me nothing when I put on a Shake-N-Go pixie wig to head out to work or drinks in my early 30s.Oh, simpler times.I've experimented with blonde and brunette hair, both curly and wavy, in various lengths and styles. Still, I tend to prefer lengths of 30 inches or more. In recent years, I've come to understand and embrace the intimate and transformative nature of hairstyling. Each cut, each style, has not only transformed the way I look externally but also feel internally. There's a sense of pride, regality, even giddiness, in every piece I adorn like a crown.Celebrity hairstylist Mariah Molina isn't just styling hair. She's empowering individuals, building connections, and reshaping the beauty industry's landscape towards greater inclusivity and understanding.Kansas-born but Texas-raised, Mariah's clientele ranges from magazines to fashion houses to celebrities. But her earliest clients were her sister's Barbie dolls. "I would take control of them and do all their hair," she recalls. "And before you knew it, all the Barbies were bald at one time." A tap on the wrist aside, Mariah never planned on becoming a hairstylist. But it took a broken heart and a move back home that launched her on her path. Initially going to school for her nail tech license, a chat with a loved one reminded her of her early curiosity with hairstyling.Mariah eventually settled in New York City, where she has worked with clients across entertainment, music, and fashion. She was one of several hairstylists assisting on New York Magazine's annual "Reasons to Love New York" issue, which featured a tribute to 50 years of Saturday Night Live. Captured by renowned photographer David LaChapelle, 60 stars from the show were photographed. "To be among all those celebrities and to style themand get to know them," she recalls, "It was just an iconic moment."[[Embed]]As a stylist and a trans woman, Mariah understands the strength and vulnerability of trusting another with one's hair. She recalls a time when she sought a hairstylist, only to have the lack of communication between them lead to her getting "banana yellow" hair. "I was like, 'no,'" Mariah said. This moment would later serve as a lesson on how she would treat her clients, especially her trans siblings. "So you have to kind of step into their world of individuality to really understand what they want and what they need to have a successful look."And Mariah brings a successful look to life. She's worked many times with New York legend, Lina Bradford, including piecing together three units to create one formidable, fabulous hairdo. The moment was a full circle one, as Mariah fondly remembers watching her in the '95 docufilm, Wigstock: The Movie, as a teenager. The two quickly became friends. Similarly, she's developed a friendship with none other than Anna Delvey. Mariah recalls the Netflix series and the buzz around Anna. "I remember watching her as I sat in front of my television," she reminisces. It was at that moment that she manifested working with this larger-than-life figure. And, not long after, Mariah secured an assignment on Anna's photoshoot for Forbes. "We have a great relationship," she says. Moreover, Anna is a firm trans ally, always pushing Mariah to connect and network whenever and wherever possible.Though there have been joyful moments of working with photographers, people, and talent, Mariah notes there have been some moments of navigating through discomfort. On one set, she experienced what she could only assume was prejudice against her being trans. "I'm very vocal about it," Mariah says. "I don't care who knows." Nevertheless, like every shoot she's on, she continued her work with charm and grace. "When I go into a shoot, I want everybody to be happy," she affirms.Tension on set aside, Mariah admits her luck working in overwhelmingly supportive environments. "I'm fortunate enough to have great people and a team around, to uplift and guide me," she says. With her sense of light and love, Mariah Molina is a trailblazer, with a hair dryer in one hand and hope in another, proving that one's crowning glory isn't in a cut or curl but in one's grace, charm, and never letting someone ruin a good hair day.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. Rosie O'Donnell defends 'The View,' drags Trump: 'We're in a dictatorship with good lighting'
Rosie O'Donnell shared a new statement expressing her concern for The View a show that she cohosted in the past and alleging that Donald Trump could cancel the talk show. As a result, the White House has responded to O'Donnell's claims.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!O'Donnell shared a concerning statement about The View's fate following the cancelation of Late Night With Stephen Colbert on CBS which many have interpreted as a decision driven by political reasons."You know what I just read today? ABC is 'reviewing the liberal bias' on The View. The VIEW. The show with five women speaking the own opinions. That's the threat now," O'Donnell wrote in a TikTok post. "They say they're not canceling it just trying to soften you up first they're just 'reviewing the bias.' Which is code for: We're gonna cancel it we're just trying to soften you up first."She continued, "Because it's not enough to run the country into the ground. You have to control what people SEE, what they HEAR, what they think. And The View? Well, that's a little too much woman a little too much truth a little too much Joy Behar saying, 'I don't think the insurrection was a tourist visit, Karen.' Apparently, the truth is dangerous now." Colman Domingo in an episode of The View.ABC/Paula Lobo O'Donnell continued her statement, writing:"They say they want 'balance,' but what they mean is silence. Silence anything that doesn't praise the orange messiah and his golden escalator of lies. And listen, I've done TV I've sat in boardrooms where men in suits use words like 'optics' and 'midwestern moms' and 'brand alignment,' when what they mean is: Can you not say the things you say.I've done THE VIEW twice. I know how hard it is to get four women to agree on lunch, let alone politics. So don't tell me The View is some radical leftist threat. This isn't about bias; this is about obedience. This is about removing any program that doesn't align with Trumpism soft fascism in full lashes with commercial breaks."O'Donnell reiterated her claim that longtime The View cohosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar could be next on Trump's chopping block. She wrote:"When the only voices left on TV are nodding along to conspiracy theories about wind turbines causing autism, we are not in a democracy anymore. We are in a dictatorship with good lighting. I used to think the First Amendment meant something. I used to think you couldn't just erase a voice because it made you uncomfortable. But that's where we are. They don't want balance. They want obedience. And they will shut down anything that reminds people of what freedom sounds like."Taylor Rogers, a spokesperson for the White House, shared the following statement with Variety regarding O'Donnell's remarks:"Rosie O'Donnell and 'Joyless' Behar are irrelevant losers with too much time on their hands, whining about a failing talk show while everyday Americans are working hard. Our country is better off with Rosie living abroad and we can all hope 'Joyless' Behar will join her next!"This story is still developing

Sydney Sweeney spotted on 'Devil Wears Prada 2' filming set
Sydney Sweeney is still dealing with the fallout from her controversial American Eagle advertisement that was embraced by the right, including President Donald Trump. Not too soon after the backlash, it was revealed that Sweeney had been registered as a Republican since June 2024. She has yet to address the controversy head-on and has remained pretty mum on the topic as a whole. On Wednesday, the Euphoria star was spotted on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is currently filming in New York City, and we've seen endless paparazzi shots from the movie. Sweeney seemed to be added to the already star-studded cast, which includes the returning stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, as well as a new crop of stars like Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B. J. Novak, and Simone Ashley, to name a few. (@) The 27-year-old actress kept a low-key profile as she stepped out of her trailer on Wednesday, wearing an oversized blue hoodie and jeans, and covering her face with a large gray umbrella. It's still unclear exactly what her role will be in the film or if she'll be making a cameo.Sweeney's public persona seems to have swayed to the right since the American Eagle ad that was accused of being a "Nazi dog whistle" and promoting "racist ideologies," and it looks like she is having trouble getting back into the public's good graces. Her latest public outing was on the red carpet at the premiere of her new movie, Americana, where she paired a light yellow ballerina-style gown by Danielle Frankel with a thick, white headband. Social media users were not shy about sharing their opinions and making fun of her look.If the news of her involvement with the beloved sequel broke last month, the reaction would have been much different than it was today.

Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie's new film described as 'hyper-sexualized'
An early test screening for her adaptation of Emily Bront's Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) has reportedly received mixed reviews, and even a significant amount of negative reactions.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Director Emerald Fennell hooked her audiences with her first two films: Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. While the former may have received an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, the latter pushed the envelope even further, to the point that her audience now expects it.A blog titled World of Reel reported that it spoke with some of the attendees after the screening. One person at the screening said the movie was "aggressively provocative and tonally abrasive," and that "leans hard into Fennells now-familiar brand of stylized depravity." According to this attendee, the movie was a "deliberately unromantic take on Bronts novel, stripped of emotional nuance and full of salacious detours that serve shock value."Fennell's "stylized depravity" comes in the form of multiple scenes that seemed to be included for shock factor. "The film opens with a public hanging that quickly descends into grotesque absurdity, as the condemned man ejaculates mid-execution, sending the onlooking crowd into a kind of orgiastic frenzy," the blog writes. " A nun even fondles the corpses visible erection."But it doesn't stop there, according to the publication, there was a BDSM-tinged encounter with a woman tied up in horse reins, several masturbation scenes, suggestive scenes including egg yolks, bread kneading, and a slug.Attendees also told World of Reel that the unbalanced movie couldn't even be saved by either Robbie nor Elordi. The two actors had great chemistry, the writer explains, but "the characters they portray are so cold and unlikable that even strong acting cant create a point of connection. And I ask in return: isnt that precisely what Bront intended?"It seems to be one of Fennell's most caustic films yet, and by the sound of the screen test attendees' accounts, the blog writes, "it sounds like the most unusual Wuthering Heights to date, and that might not be a bad thing."
