WWW.OUT.COMCelebs and LGBTQ+ community mourn Jasmine International's passingRest in peace, Jasmine International.Jasmine International, a Puerto Rican trans icon and beloved drag entertainer otherwise known as Jasmine Jimenez, passed away on Friday, August 8 at the age of 46. Since then, her legacy of "kindness" and "joy" is being remembered by celebrities, RuPaul's Drag Race stars, and the overall LGBTQ+ community.Over the years, Jimenez competed in pageants such as Miss Flamingo, Miss Royal Pride of Nations, Southern Charm All American Goddess, Miss Mundo International USA, and the prestigious Miss Continental. Meanwhile, she also built a long-lasting career as a drag entertainer, crossing paths and forging friendships with Drag Race stars like Alexis Mateo, Naysha Lopez, Roxxxy Andrews, Carmen Carrera, Vanessa Vanjie, Nina Flowers, and Detox, to name a few.In 2018, Jimenez shared a photo of herself and Alexis Mateo posing alongside Christina Aguilera while the singer was on the road with The Liberation Tour.In June 2016, Jimenez performed at Pulse nightclub in Orlando just hours before the venue was overtaken by a gunman who shot and killed 49 people."I was going to take my bags to the car, and I was going to come back and spend a couple of minutes 20, 30 minutes," Jimenez told MSNBC in an interview, as reported by Out's sister publication, The Advocate. "As soon as we get the bag and we walk to the bar again, I told them, 'We'll be right back,' and I just walked out. I didn't even put my hand to the door when I heard the first six shots, and that's when I ran. By the time I throw all my stuff in the car and Luis throws his stuff in the car, the second round came out, and when I looked back, I realized that it was a really bad situation."Jimenez excelled in many different mediums as a performer, leaving "an indelible mark on the worlds of pageantry, ballroom, and nightlife," TENz Magazine writes. She also cultivated a sense of community everywhere she went, becoming a staple in LGBTQ+ scenes across the country from the Las Escuelita Nightclub in New York City to the GaYbor District in the greater Tampa Bay area.See on InstagramIn a video shared by @fqlookbook on Instagram, Jasmine International is seen performing at a ballroom function. Your beauty and kindness were otherworldly. Your skin was like butter, your glow unmatched. I'll never forget the year I wanted to compete for Miss Continental but didn't have a prelim package. You had just finished competing at Nationals and made the Top Five and without hesitation, you packed up your entire package, put it in a box, and mailed it to me with a simple, 'Mary, there you go Now go and compete.'You were the perfect balance of New York grit and Puerto Rican fire. The day I met you, I was in absolute awe, your dance moves, your femininity, the body, it was all unbelievable. You were everything I wanted to be. You introduced me to Rupplemint liquor (and taught me how to drink, Mary!), and we would spend hours on the phone dreaming about becoming Miss Continental. That's why, when I finally won, your joy for me was so pure, so genuine, like a true sister.I am in disbelief that you're gone. My heart aches for your family and your chosen family who now have to carry this loss. WWW.OUT.COMMariah Molina is the trans hairstylist reclaiming bad hair days as weapons of joyIf you know or follow me, you'll see that I change my hair as often as President Trump goes on a tirade on Truth Social. As a trans teen, unable to afford (or keep) a wig around, I used head wraps (and still do around the house). And no one could tell me nothing when I put on a Shake-N-Go pixie wig to head out to work or drinks in my early 30s.Oh, simpler times.I've experimented with blonde and brunette hair, both curly and wavy, in various lengths and styles. Still, I tend to prefer lengths of 30 inches or more. In recent years, I've come to understand and embrace the intimate and transformative nature of hairstyling. Each cut, each style, has not only transformed the way I look externally but also feel internally. There's a sense of pride, regality, even giddiness, in every piece I adorn like a crown.Celebrity hairstylist Mariah Molina isn't just styling hair. She's empowering individuals, building connections, and reshaping the beauty industry's landscape towards greater inclusivity and understanding.Kansas-born but Texas-raised, Mariah's clientele ranges from magazines to fashion houses to celebrities. But her earliest clients were her sister's Barbie dolls. "I would take control of them and do all their hair," she recalls. "And before you knew it, all the Barbies were bald at one time." A tap on the wrist aside, Mariah never planned on becoming a hairstylist. But it took a broken heart and a move back home that launched her on her path. Initially going to school for her nail tech license, a chat with a loved one reminded her of her early curiosity with hairstyling.Mariah eventually settled in New York City, where she has worked with clients across entertainment, music, and fashion. She was one of several hairstylists assisting on New York Magazine's annual "Reasons to Love New York" issue, which featured a tribute to 50 years of Saturday Night Live. Captured by renowned photographer David LaChapelle, 60 stars from the show were photographed. "To be among all those celebrities and to style themand get to know them," she recalls, "It was just an iconic moment."[[Embed]]As a stylist and a trans woman, Mariah understands the strength and vulnerability of trusting another with one's hair. She recalls a time when she sought a hairstylist, only to have the lack of communication between them lead to her getting "banana yellow" hair. "I was like, 'no,'" Mariah said. This moment would later serve as a lesson on how she would treat her clients, especially her trans siblings. "So you have to kind of step into their world of individuality to really understand what they want and what they need to have a successful look."And Mariah brings a successful look to life. She's worked many times with New York legend, Lina Bradford, including piecing together three units to create one formidable, fabulous hairdo. The moment was a full circle one, as Mariah fondly remembers watching her in the '95 docufilm, Wigstock: The Movie, as a teenager. The two quickly became friends. Similarly, she's developed a friendship with none other than Anna Delvey. Mariah recalls the Netflix series and the buzz around Anna. "I remember watching her as I sat in front of my television," she reminisces. It was at that moment that she manifested working with this larger-than-life figure. And, not long after, Mariah secured an assignment on Anna's photoshoot for Forbes. "We have a great relationship," she says. Moreover, Anna is a firm trans ally, always pushing Mariah to connect and network whenever and wherever possible.Though there have been joyful moments of working with photographers, people, and talent, Mariah notes there have been some moments of navigating through discomfort. On one set, she experienced what she could only assume was prejudice against her being trans. "I'm very vocal about it," Mariah says. "I don't care who knows." Nevertheless, like every shoot she's on, she continued her work with charm and grace. "When I go into a shoot, I want everybody to be happy," she affirms.Tension on set aside, Mariah admits her luck working in overwhelmingly supportive environments. "I'm fortunate enough to have great people and a team around, to uplift and guide me," she says. With her sense of light and love, Mariah Molina is a trailblazer, with a hair dryer in one hand and hope in another, proving that one's crowning glory isn't in a cut or curl but in one's grace, charm, and never letting someone ruin a good hair day.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. WWW.OUT.COMJT opens up about gay uncles, queer fans, Bad Bunny, and 'Love Island'Jordan Torres, best known as JT, is a Puerto Rican model, influencer, fitness expert, and entrepreneur. Over the years, he's cultivated a massive and intensely engaged audience of gay men who consider him a sex symbol. However, while the practice of straight men nurturing a gay following has grown, most of those content creators make promises that are never fulfilled, pretend that their audiences is all made up of women, and eventually turn their backs on the LGBTQ+ community when it no longer is a source of income. That hasn't been JT's story. With 616,000 followers on X/Twitter, 595,000 on Instagram, and 1.1 million likes on TikTok, JT has never pretended that he doesn't have a massive gay following. He's never pretended to be anything other than straight, either, but did so without disrespecting, alienating, or outright dismissing his audience. When asked to speak with Out about his gay fandom as one interview in a series of stories celebrating International Ally Day (August 8), JT surpassed our wildest expectations as he opened up about his connection to queer fans, growing up with gay uncles, and how Bad Bunny has empowered him and others to break down machismo tendencies among straight Latinos."I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for you guys. I wouldn't be in this position I'm in my life," JT tells Out in an exclusive interview. "So I always make sure to be an ally, and I don't play that. I would never let somebody disrespect gay people in front of me. I would never allow that type of behavior."And yet, JT's connection with the LGBTQ+ community started before he had a career of any sort, at a time when social media didn't even exist yet.JT's childhood wasn't easy. He was raised by a single parents, his mother, who lost two sons over the course of her life."My two older brothers were killed, and dad was not really in the picture," JT says. "I feel like a lot affected him. He was in Vietnam, and then losing his sons He kind of went off ship. So my mom had to take care of us. My mom was actually a super of a building. She got really cool with the landlord of the building, and then she worked in a real estate office for many, many years being an office manager. But my mom started from the ground up. She moved from Puerto Rico to New York at 16 years old with nothing in her pocket."Growing up, JT recalls that he was already surrounded by queer people who played a significant role in his life. Specifically, he references having two gay uncles."My mom's best friend was gay, and my uncle [dad's brother] was also gay," JT explains. "They were both considered my uncles: It was to George and to Robert. I never saw any difference between them and other adults in my life."It took time for JT to realize that his gay uncles dealt with homophobia. "I was growing up in a tough environment, like the Bronx, where everybody is being so macho and tough," he observes. "But I'm not no punk. I'll go pose in my underwear, but I'll still come to the block and beat you up if I had to. So my friends from my block respected who I was."JT explains that his father was a "soldier, a big guy." JT's gay uncle (blood relative) was his father's brother. "He'd always say, 'That's my brother.' He didn't let people disrespect his brother. If I become a dad, I would never judge my son or my daughter for anything as long as they're happy.""I had gay friends in high school, and it was never anything," he adds. "As I got into modeling, some of my best friends as well were gay, and we'd have conversations about their love lives, and my love life, and I don't see the difference. At the end of the day, it's all just love. You know what I'm saying?""I'm happy that now we're in a space where people are more comfortable to come out. Every year I tweet, 'Happy Pride Month,' along with a little message, because I genuinely care," JT notes. "It's funny, too, because I feel like gay people are the strongest people. The amount of stuff they've had to go through to be where they are I've been through a lot in my life, so I look at people with strength and I just want to send them love. If I could just give you some love, then we're happy."While it's hard for some to imagine that JT, an undeniable sex symbol for many women and gay men around the world, would ever struggle in the modeling industry, it's worth remembering that the "type" of models cast by fashion houses and even smaller clothing brands was not, at all, what he's had to present.JT isn't tall and slender; his face is very expressive; and he has a muscular body that is full of tattoos. It's hard to make him disappear in clothes as a stick figure meant to look striking, but not distracting, in ads and/or runway shows."I first got into the modeling industry in New York," JT says. "I played professional rugby, but I wasn't as 'big' as I am now, and I even got cut from the USA team. I was like, 'You know what? I'm going to go and get big and come back.' Then I got scouted for modeling during that time, but I had just put on some size, which restricted me from a lot of jobs. I would literally not fit into the clothes."Nonetheless, JT observed how "everything started to change in clothing and e-commerce" and went on to build "my own brand and my own platform. It allowed me to just create and do my own thing.""When social media came into place, that's when the industry started to change. I was like, 'Man, I think I'm onto something. I don't want to just be a model; I want to build my own brand. If I'm going to do something, I want to be comfortable with myself while I'm doing it.' I started to see the interactions from looking how I was looking. It was suddenly like, 'Oh, we love your arms, you have the best chest.' And I was like, 'So I'm getting booked as the body guy now OK, cool!' [laughs]."Bad Bunny, who is also Puerto Rican and also doesn't look like most male celebrities featured in past underwear campaigns e.g. Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes recently broke the internet with his underwear campaign for Calvin Klein."The [Bad Bunny's real name] Benito thing with Calvin Klein To see a Latino getting the spotlight like that, with a brand like that finally I'm so grateful. I'm a big Benito fan. He's my fellow Puerto Rican. I go to all of his concerts. He's my favorite artist," JT says. "We have [mutual] close friends, so it's great to see his success. And I'm so happy because he's such a deserving guy for it. I was like, 'Man, if I couldn't do it, I'm glad Benito got it.'"Bad Bunny has pushed back against machismo in the Latin community several times, and continues to do so. According to JT, the Puerto Rican superstar is "definitely someone that has made me feel a lot more comfortable. Somebody with a platform quadruple than mine, and the fact that he's allowed to be himself, it creates that movement for us. It brings more of that energy, which more people should be doing."JT adds, "For one of the most-streaming artists, and one of the biggest touring artists, to be moving that way It's like, 'Yeah, we're here. We can all love each other. It's no difference.' He's Puerto Rican, I'm Puerto Rican, and it just adds. Like, 'Let's do it together.' A lot of my fans are also his fans. Especially in Puerto Rico, I got so much love here. I can't go nowhere without getting stopped. I love it, and I appreciate it."JT was one of the first people who saw Bad Bunny's new residency in Puerto Rico. "I was there the second night. And he was literally He could've given me his drink, that's how close I was," he says. When asked about Ricky Martin who is also Puerto Rican and attended Bad Bunny's residency recently JT says that they didn't go on the same night. "But Ricky Martin's cool. He's my homie, too," JT adds. "We live in the same town. I live in Dorado, and he lives in Dorado as well."One of the main elements that contributed to Bad Bunny's Puerto Rican residency was a sentiment of dismissal and disrespect against the island. In October 2024, Tony Hinchcliffe spoke at a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden and referred to Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage."When asked about that instance, JT recalls feeling very "mad" and "disrespected.""And they said, 'You've got to have a sense of humor.' It's like, it doesn't even matter," JT explains. "There's somebody's grandma up in the mountains, bro, with the happiest soul in the world, and you're telling her that her home is trash a home she had to build for 75 years, by herself. People are so insensitive these days. We live in an evil world. It's sad to say, but we do."Unlike most successful social media heartthrobs of the moment, JT's following has been growing steadily for many years. He's had viral posts, but not really any one thing that made him go viral overnight."It's always just been consistent; it's never been big jump," JT notes. "You know how these guys go on Love Island, and they leave the show with like 1.4 million followers? It's like, 'Damn, I've been putting the work in for so long, and I turned down Love Island like three times.'Wait. What did he just say?!"Yeah," JT replies, smiling. "Second season [of Love Island USA], I turned it down."It's safe to say that the internet would explode if JT was cast on Love Island as a bombshell who entered the villa to turn heads and make waves."It would go crazy [laughs], but I don't know," JT insists. "But it's funny to see these guys come off the island. Like, 'I've built my platform for over seven years. You guys get off the island after two months, and boom,'" he teases.Jokes aside, JT explains that his vision has always been long-term. "I told my team and my agents that I'm focused on the long game. I don't want to be a firework. I want to be able to last. I want to have the longevity, and I'm happy, man. It's very important for me to just be content, and actually be grateful for what I do have. I'm a big believer in getting exactly what you need. I want to be able to be present.""I'm finally launching my fitness coaching program, and it's called EVOLUXIN. I'm so happy, because this is something that I've always been so picky about. I wanted to create something that had a 'luxury' feel and wasn't just strictly fitness. Something that you're actually building beyond your body. It's helping your mind, helping you feel confident, more outgoing, more well-spoken.For the name, EVOLUXIN: "evol" is "love" backwards; "lux" is luxury, and "in" is a referencing to "lock in" because I always tell the homies like, 'You got to lock-in and get focused.' So those are the meanings behind EVOLUXIN.""And it's actually my own app," he briefly pauses, visibly processing the words coming out of his mouth, looking proud of this moment in his career. "I'm coming out with an app An application that you can download from the App Store," he reiterates.See on Instagram"The app will have my workout programs, nutrition programs, mental health programs Everything, all of the above. I'm super, super excited about that. It's something that's coming from my heart. I can't wait to connect follow me, and people who I can inspire. It's going to be super, super dope. I'm super excited for it."As our conversation comes to an end, JT shares a message with the LGBTQ+ community: "Love everybody. I'll always be here for you. If you ever see me out and you need a hug or whatever, don't be afraid to ask."Fans can follow Jordan Torres (JT) on Instagram, and/or visit his official website, WhoIsJordanTorres.com. WWW.OUT.COMDisney just canceled yet another LGBTQ-inclusive seriesYet another LGBTQ-inclusive show is being cut from Disney's roster: Goosebumps. Variety reported exclusively on Friday that the show, based on the popular children's book series by R. L. Stine, was canceled and would not be returning for a third season.Although the show's first two seasons accumulated over 75 million hours watched in the US alone, the company decided to end the show without providing a reason for the cancellation. However, a source allegedly close to the matter told Variety reported that the production company behind the series, Sony Pictures Television, "plans to shop the show to other outlets and explore different creative directions for the IP." (@) The show is yet another blow to queer representation on Disney after the streaming service canceled two shows featuring queer storylines and removed an explicit mention of transness in a different show. In the past two years, Disney canceled two shows featuring queer characters: Willow in 2023 and the Star Wars show, The Acolyte, in 2024. The streaming service also made headlines when it decided to cut a trans storyline from Pixar's first-ever animated series, Win or Lose. The decision came not too soon after the presidential election, and at the time, Disney shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter that said, "When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline. But nonetheless, the backlash was swift.Goosebumps, which featured Friends star David Schwimmer, The Pitt's Isa Briones, Justin Long, Miles McKenna, Sam McCarthy, and a few other notable actors, had the potential to be an exciting new watch on streaming. But the writers of the show decided to take a few storylines from different books instead of focusing on one book per episode.0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMJwan Yosef's art book 'Intimacies' explores being 'an object of desire'and a single dadBorn in Syria, Jwan Yosef grew up in Sweden, attended university in the United Kingdom, became a world-renowned artist with exhibitions all over the world, married global superstar Ricky Martin, had kids with the singer, and split from their union two years ago. As Yosef releases his first-ever book featuring some of his work from the past two decades, Intimacies feels a perfect title. After all, it's inconceivable that his understanding of intimacy wouldn't be plural."It's funny, Intimacies started as a working title in the very beginning of putting this book together," Yosef tells Out. "The longer we worked on it, the clearer it became to me and the editors, Matthew Holroyd and Brianna Bakke, that it should be the actual title of this monograph. It's also more selected works that all play within the field of 'intimacy,' so it's a little bit more focused on certain series from my practice not a full review of my work."But what does that concept even mean to Yosef? "Intimacy is many things to me: Vulnerability, desire, seduction, and everything within that spectrum," he explains."It's funny," Yosef adds. "Like most artists, I've struggled with the idea of consistency, and often questioned certain paths I've taken in my practice. With this book, however, I realized that consistency is not a problem of mine. It's great to sit down with your work from the past 15 to 20 years and realize, at the age of 40, that I've been lingering in the same subject matter from day one. There's definitely a confidence in that, when you review your own work."Somehow, the various layers and nuances of Yosef's life and career are neatly tied together in a book that does not compromise his artistic perspectives, but also doesn't alienate his newer audience of social media fans who stay tuned for his thirst traps and sense of humor. The erotic but not necessarily explicit pieces created by Yosef over the years tend to keep the more explicit parts out of frame while still making it clear what's happening in each scene. Specifically, the men of Intimacies are shown receiving and delivering pleasure based on their facial expressions, tongues out, and mouthfuls, or the way their legs are raised in a familiar manner, or how some of their faces are buried inside a nondescript orifice.Yosef's artwork adds a sensual he-bangs, he-bangs layer to Alfred Hitchcock's mission statement ("There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it"), but viewers are still asked to imagine what is not shown a deliberate withholding that feels as enticing as watching a burlesque number."It's always about a whisper and a hint," Yosef says. "Not so much because I want to censor the work or be less blunt, but more so to respect the intelligence of my viewers and to allow them to, on their own, imagine what is being played out outside of the frame. I want to create a calm dialog, rather than a loud and brash projection. It's always more exciting to leave space for interpretation. It's sexier, to be honest."Putting together Intimacies with Baron Books took almost a full year, Yosef recalls, between "accumulating images of the works, and the final edit, and the printing of the book," which is divided into three main sections: Object, Touch, and Brush."Those are the three series that have been pretty solid throughout my whole practice," Yosef says. "They're as descriptive to the work's core as it gets. I've always appreciated simple, one-worded, descriptive titles. Within the framework of Intimacies, these series totally struck a chord, and I wanted to highlight these works within the narrative and the play of seduction."Within Object, Yosef's art considers the meaning of an "object" from a few different angles. Besides a blank canvas that looks wet from the oil on linen applied to its surface the series features three completely different men in Yosef's orbit: Syrian dictator Hafez al-Assad, whose regime prompted Yosef's parents to move to Sweden; Ahmad, who is Yosef's own father; and Rock Hudson, the closeted Hollywood actor who died in 1985 from complications of AIDS.Judged solely as an object, the presentation of Hafez al-Assad, the dictator, is pretty rough. The canvas is dirty, torn, and beaten up, as if it's been transported without proper care for several decades. Yosef's father, Ahmad, is shown as a happy and hopeful man, but his canvases are wrinkled and just look sort of deflated. In Hudson's case, the canvases don't look as beaten up or as deflated, but rather in a process of being unmasked, unzipped, and undone very slowly, which alludes to Hudson's agonizing last few years on Earth."It's funny," Yosef says in relation to Hudson. "He really unraveled in a series I did back in 2018, playing with the idea of this Hollywood heartthrob and hero that sadly died and deteriorated in front of the world in the early days of the AIDS epidemic. For me, he became this image of a rise and fall, of someone who effectively became a queer icon later, even though he never really came out."Yosef adds, "When I was doing these paintings of Rock, I found out that my studio and home was only a few houses away from his [place] here in Los Angeles. So the spirit of Rock was thoroughly with me in the making of these pieces."Going into the Cave section of the book without knowing its context can be a pretty interesting ride. Here, the framing hyper-focuses on Yosef's chin dimple, which is deep enough in its on-page presentation to perhaps be mistaken for "a vague, seductive hole," as described by Jesse Bandier Firestone in the opening essay of Intimacies.Personally, this optical illusion feels like a spiritual sibling to the cover art of one of my favorite books: The 2009 fiction novel O Pau, by the late Brazilian author Fernanda Young, in which the female author's neck is photographed in a way that resembles a penis. The protagonist of O Pau is not Young, though the author does use her own body in this case, her neck for the book cover. When asked if he ever sees himself in these portraits or paintings where he uses his own body, Yosef is excited about the discourse. "I'm so happy to hear this and so excited that the work speaks to you in this way," he says. "I always imagine someone else in these paintings, even when I work with my own body parts in these super imposed images, like Cave. I like to imagine my own body being a tool, more so than an actual self-representing self-portrait. It's exciting to work with my own body, but I'm often projecting a notion or someone else in these paintings."Beyond the cavernous framing of his chin dimple featured in Intimacies, Yosef feels pretty confident and comfortable sharing occasional thirst traps on social media (which often send the gay internet into overdrive). While many creatives avoid sharing anything risqu out of fear that they wouldn't be taken seriously as artists, Yosef does not share the same concerns. Quite the opposite, actually. In his long-standing pursuit of exploring different mediums, it seems that Yosef is personally interested in expanding his Intimacies universe onto digital spaces, and sees his social media presence as a direct extension of his artistry."To be totally honest, I love to play with this image of also just being an object or an object of desire," Yosef muses. "I take so much pleasure in having my practice, which plays with the notion of seduction, and then get to act that also within my own public image. It becomes a circle complete for me and the work I do."Yosef adds, "I don't mind it all, to be honest. I believe these are two separate tools, but often they elicit the same notion and feeling of desire. It is perfectly fine to be ogled only for my looks if that floats your boat. I might even be flattered." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jwan Yosef (@jwanyosef)After such a spirited discussion about what intimacy means to Yosef and his artistry, which led him to release a book featuring his work from the past two decades, I bring up that the concept of intimacy is ever-changing even with blood relatives, and friends, and in different stages of a relationship like getting married, and having kids, for instance."Yes, no doubt; having kids expands your idea of intimacy," Yosef says. "My kids get to experience me as a father in ways that no other person gets to do. They see a vulnerability that I somehow only get to show them. In some ways, it becomes a privilege for me to be put in that position, to learn about myself and my own boundaries, and I believe that your own kids are the few people in the world that can push you that far."A divorce can also change one's idea of intimacy.Yosef agrees, "New chapters, no matter what they are. In my case, they've given me major pushes and lifts in my work. I've gone through many paradigm-shifts in my life, and I've learned to appreciate them all. They've all lead to bigger and more surprising plans. At the age of 40, I've learned to trust them and to trust myself. If anything, it gives me confidence to constantly change and evolve.""I also have nothing but excitement in becoming single," Yosef adds. "More than anything, I'm feeling super eager to move on to the next projects and chapters in life. Choosing an easy and somber life was never part of the plan for me."Now that Intimacies is on the verge of being released and he can start looking forward to new projects, what's next for Jwan Yosef?"The making of this book came with many ups and downs. It was, if anything, an odyssey that I was happy to undertake," he recalls. "It's one of these milestones in life, I believe, to make my work available for everyone in the shape of a book. Intimacies is a first for me, but definitely not the last."Yosef concludes, "I have a few projects in the making right now. But [I'm] also exploring branches and avenues that are part of my practice at their core, but are taking shape in other forms rather than painting. I would like to say that there is so much more to come, and I'm selfishly excited to share it with all of you."Jwan Yosef's Intimacies can be purchased through Baron Books.0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMNew online trend features women in drag lip syncing to 'Hamilton'10 years later, Hamilton is still proving that it was never just a phase. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and a new trend on social media proves that this beloved musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda is always top of mind for real Hamilfans, and they will always commit to the bit.In this new TikTok trend, users are painting on a goatee on their faces and dressing up in traditional colonial men's clothing as they lip-sync to an exchange between Alexander Hamilton and his wife, Eliza, in "Best of Wives and Best of Women." These TikTokers, usually women, are dragged-up in Lin-Manuel Miranda realness and acting out as the character trying to leave the house sneakily, getting caught by Eliza, and getting annoyed. @actressbecc a trend i can get behind @sydwingold Alexander come back to sleep For those who haven't seen the show, the musical details the pivotal moments in Hamilton's life and also explores the infidelities in his marriage. The song comes towards the end of the show, as he tries to leave in the middle of the night to go to his duel with Aaron Burr, where (spoiler alert), he dies. He wakes Eliza, and she asks him to come back to bed, but he says he has an early morning and says his meeting is at dawn.As with any online trend, it's difficult to pinpoint who exactly started it. However, one user known as @actuallyhamilt0n on TikTok, posted an early video of themself doing this trend climbing out of a window on July 22. That original video accumulated over nine million views and over one million likes. @actuallyhamilt0n #bestofwivesandbestofwomen #hamilton #hamiltonmusical #foryoupage #linmanuelmiranda #alexanderhamilton #fyp The bits only got more and more creative. One person used a Ring camera to record the interaction, making the exchange that much funnier. @makingartandtakingnaps Eliza catches Alexander on the ring camera #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #hamilton #alexanderhamilton #hamiltontrend #trending #viral #trend #hamiltonmusical A lot of people are taking this trend very seriously, but some aren't able to hold their composure. @drewafualo made myself audibly laugh filming this Ill be honest w yall Miranda, the musical's creator and original star, joined in on the fun and did the trend with his recently unveiled wax figure. @hamiltonmusical Best of wax and best of figures. The trend seems to have stemmed from all the renewed attention on the show after the 10th anniversary celebration. When it came out, the musical was a global phenomenon (and still is). So much so that at this year's Tony Awards, the original Broadway cast reunited on stage for a medley performance for the first time in years. Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Jonathan Groff, Phillipa Soo, Okieriete Onaodowan, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Rene Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, and Anthony Ramos all showed up to reprise their roles one last time, and the proshot is going to be released in theaters on September 5.0 Comments 0 Shares 4 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COM'Glee' stars: 'Obviously it's hard' to watch show after costar deathsKevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz are once again shining a light on what it's like to be former stars of the hit show Glee.McHale and Ushkowitz, who played Artie and Tina on Glee, are the cohosts of the And That's What You REALLY Missed podcast, where they recap the groundbreaking show and talk about behind-the-scenes secrets. This week, the duo did a podcast swap with the hosts of the Full House podcast, How Rude, Tannerios!, and opened up about one of the harder aspects of doing a recap podcast.McHale revealed that he and Ushkowitz had previously tried to do another Glee recap show, called Showmance, but had to stop in 2020 after their costar Naya Rivera tragically died.McHale says that even before her death, dealing with watching scenes with Cory Monteith, who died while filming the show, was "hard.""I couldn't really listen to the songs he was singing on, and it was just hard," McHale said. "But watching it really helped me get through it."Ushkowitz added that rewatching the show helped them work through their grief, especially after they had to publicly mourn Monteith as their characters on the show. After Monteith tragically died in 2013, writers for Glee also killed off his character. They also had his fellow students sing songs to honor him on the show in an episode titled "The Quarterback.""We had to mourn all that in the show, like, while we were filming it, and move on without him," Ushkowitz said. Now, they say that their current podcast has been a part of the healing process."It really is a gift that we get to watch this, and we got so many moments of how great they are as people shine through in their performances as characters," McHale said. "Obviously, it's hard. Some episodes are easier than others, but it has been another really nice surprise of doing all this."0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMWill a 'Wenclair' romance happen? 'Wednesday' creators respondSorry, Wenclair fans, it may be time to throw in the towel. Many fans of Netflix's hit series Wednesday like to imagine a blossoming romance between the main character, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), and her Nevermore Academy roommate, the optimistic and bubbly werewolf Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). However, a new interview with the show's creators may have put an end to the popular femslash ship.Decider asked series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar if they thought a romance between the two female best friends would ever happen on screen. Its a show about female friendship, and people can read into it whatever they want, which is great. I mean, thats the beauty of television, is people can take ownership, but theyre very much friends, Gough said. And its really a show exploring that female friendship.Millar agreed, saying the show is centered on "the idea of sisterhood and what that means."Its amazing that theyve been embraced in that way. I think its something thats very special, unique about that, he said. You have a show that is about, at its core, these two teenage girls who need each other and have found that connection. And theyre very, very different.See on InstagramPride's Rachel Shatto recently got the opportunity to ask Wednesday star Jenna Ortega about the ship and if "it's time for shippers to give it up.""You know, it's fair enough to see two people and want them to kiss, I do it every day walking down the street. WWW.OUT.COMTrans influencer Nikita Dragun's biggest controversiesNikita Dragun is a transgender influencer, model, and makeup artist but she is perhaps better known online for her controversies than makeup any tutorials. As a YouTuber, Dragun first made her mark sharing her transition journey with fans after she came out in 2015. However, over the years, she has found herself at the center of multiple controversies. Most notably, in 2022, she was arrested and charged with felony battery, a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct, and a violation of a municipal ordinance. When she was arrested, she was misgendered and placed in a men's prison. After taking some time off from being online, Dragun has slowly begun making her comeback by posting a few videos on Instagram. She uploaded a new video Thursday of her training on a "normal" job as a "retired influencer." See on Instagram As Dragun once again enters the algorithm, revisit this short history of her tumultuous time on the internet. Here are her most notable controversies.Accused of Blackfishing in a beauty campaign (2017) See on Instagram At the height of the beauty community's dominance on YouTube, the most popular creators usually helped promote each other's products in different ways. In 2017, Dragun sat for a photoshoot for Jeffree Star's eponymous cosmetics company and modeled shades from his "Androgyny" palette. However, in the photos, her skin appeared darker than it usually was, and many commenters accused her of Blackfishing, a form of cultural appropriation via artificially darkening one's skin. The photos are still viewable on her Instagram because she didn't seem to see a problem with them; she claimed in an emailed statement to Seventeen at the time that the creative direction for the shoot called for high contrast between light and shadow. "It's very unfortunate that a section of the community is choosing to interpret and liken my image in Jeffree Star's campaign to blackface," her statement read, adding, "I'm proud to be featured in it as a Transgender Woman of Mixed Race (my mother being Mexican and my father Vietnamese). I'm disappointed that anyone would choose to critique the creative design of this incredibly inclusive campaign, rather than celebrate the diversity in it."Dramageddon (2017)In the early days of the online beauty community, there was one group of influencers that reigned supreme: Jeffree Star, Manny MUA (a.k.a. Manny Gutierrez), Gabriel Zamora, Laura Lee, and Nikita Dragun. They were a tight-knit friend circle that appeared in each other's videos, but Star was slowly phased out of the group after he faced controversies of his own. Gutierrez, Zamora, Lee, and Dragun officially ended their friendship with Star by posting a photo of them flipping off the camera with the caption, "Bitch is bitter because without him we're doing better," in reference to Star. (@) This post set off a series of reactions from Star's fans, who then began digging up dirt on the friend group. His fans found offensive old tweets from Zamora, Gutierrez, Lee, and Dragun from when they were younger. There was a resurfaced tweet from Dragun where she allegedly said she could never be Black herself and her friends were caught saying some even worse statements online. The group tried to do damage control, but despite their efforts, they all lost legions of followers and some even lost big commercial partnerships. Lee had it the worst after posting a widely panned apology video, she lost over 500,000 subscribers and brand deals with Ulta and Morphe. Eventually, they all came out on the other side of cancellation, with Dragun continuing to push the internet's buttons.Skirting pandemic social distancing and mask rules at the height of the COVID pandemic (2020)Dragun was one of the many influencers who decided that the rules didn't apply to them when it came to partying during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2020, when Dragun was a member of the Hype House a notable content creation home for influencers in Los Angeles the housemates decided to throw a party for Larri "Larray" Merritt's 22nd birthday. Many notable content creator guests attended the party, including Tana Mongeau, Charli and Dixie D'Amelio, Emma Chamberlain, James Charles, and Dragun. (@) The party was called out for being reckless and selfish during the pandemic. But that didn't stop Dragun from attending another party, this time for a different former member of the Hype House, Mia Hayward. Dragun reportedly claimed that the only people who attended were people who lived in the house. (@) Throughout the pandemic, Dragun would downplay its seriousness, making light of regulations by either not wearing a mask in public spaces or holding up a comically small surgical mask.Claiming to be "the first trans pop star" and defacing pictures of trans icons (2021)Making her foray into music, Dragun posted a teaser clip of her song "DICK" in September 2021. In the video, she says, "Nikita Dragun The First Trans Popstar," which many found disrespectful for many reasons. First, she released the song the same year that the trans music producing pioneer SOPHIE died; she also glossed over the work that Kim Petras had been doing for years prior. (@) To promote the song, Dragon also plastered the word "DICK" over the faces of transgender icons like SOPHIE and Marsha P. Johnson on an Instagram Story. This was immediately met with backlash from critics who called the act "disrespectful' and "disturbing." @pablothedon #music #musictok #nikitadragun #nikita #newmusic #pablothedon #raptok #raptokmoment #hypehouse One cultural TikTok critic, @PabloTheDon, summed up the issues with the video perfectly: "I understand that controversy breeds streams and revenue and attention, but all this self-serving bullshit that shes doing is literally so regressive and so reductive to all the actual work that trans activists and trans celebrities have been doing in order to become more of a power player in this society.Dragun was arrested for disorderly conduct (2022) (@) In November 2022, Dragun was arrested at a hotel in Miami after police responded to a call about a disorderly patron. The affidavit for her arrest says that a guest was "causing a disturbance" and "walking around the pool area unclothed," later throwing water on a hotel staff member, NBC News reported. That guest ended up being Dragun. She was arrested on a felony assault charge, as well as misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges. When Dragun was arrested, she was processed and booked as a male. In a statement to Time, a representative for Dragun said, "The situation with Nikita, who is legally female, being placed in a mens unit of a Florida jail is extremely disturbing and dangerous." It continued, "This decision made by the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department directly violates their protocol, which mandates that transgender inmates are classified and housed based on safety needs and gender identity. Nikita has been released and is now safe."According to NBC News, hours before she was arrested, Dragun was involved in a charged exchange with a Miami-based DJ and producer duo called Black V Neck at the Miami nightclub, LIV. The duo told NBC News in a direct message that Dragun shoved one of them after they told her not to steal one of their liquor bottles, and Dragun later posted to X that she was "escorted" out of LIV and was arrested hours later.0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMPete Buttigieg's betrayal of trans people will cost the Democratic PartyFormer Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is one of the Democratic Party's leading potential candidates for a presidential run in 2028. Sadly, like other Democrats, it seems like one of his first moves to try to appeal to a broader voting base is to abandon trans people.Buttigieg, like fellow Democrats Rahm Emmanuel and Gavin Newsom, has recently decided that he no longer fully supports trans rights. Now, he says there are "serious fairness issues" in the area of trans athletes, a talking point that comes straight from the Republican Party."The approach starts with compassion," Buttigieg said in an NPR interview about trans participation in sports. "Compassion for transgender people, compassion for families, especially young people who are going through this, and also empathy for people who are not sure what all of this means for them. Like, wondering, 'Wait a minute. I got a daughter in a sports league. Is she going to be competing with boys right now?' And just taking everybody seriously.""I think when you do that, that does call into question some of the past orthodoxies of my party, he added. "For example, around sports, where I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious fairness issues if you just treat this as not mattering when a trans athlete wants to compete in womens sports."After these remarks drew criticism from the LGBTQ+ community and allies, who pointed out that there is no scientific evidence showing trans athletes have an unfair advantage over cis athletes, Buttigieg responded. This time, the gay politician said that, while he has compassion for trans kids who are "being used as a political football," he also thinks "in order to bring people together on this, we also have to take everyone seriously.""People who have questions or wonder what this means they're going to have questions about how to make sure that's fair, and we should take those questions seriously and face those together," he added. With this stance, Buttigieg is not only capitulating to anti-LGBTQ+ conservatives and their arguments about trans people, but he is turning his back on the trans community. First of all, it bears repeating there is no scientific evidence that trans athletes have an inherent advantage over cis athletes. In general, studies find that trans individuals, following gender affirming hormone therapy, become more similar to their gender identity (post-transition) cisgender counterparts, or are somewhere between the expected male and female averages, D.J. Oberlin, an assistant professor of exercise science at CUNY Lehman, wrote in a comprehensive review of studies on trans participation in sports.Oberlin noted that while studies show only 0.5 percent to 0.6 percent of the population is trans, 2.3 percent of the population is "likely to fall above two standard deviations from a population mean" when it comes to height, weight, strength, and skill. There is no concern for restricting individuals who are exceptionally large or small, those who are genetically gifted, or those with differing hormone concentrations or muscle mass, so long as their gender and biologic sex align," he continued.Once you open your eyes to that reality, it becomes clear that the claim of "unfairness" is nothing more than a distraction a tactic from the right to make oppression sound more reasonable. This fearmongering echoes arguments Republicans made in the past against same-sex marriage. Politicians would rail on about protecting the "sanctity of marriage." Meanwhile, many of them would get divorced or cheat on their spouses. The Trump administration has employed the exact same "fairness" language Buttigieg has used to defend its attacks on trans youth."In recent years, many educational institutions and athletic associations have allowed men to compete in womens sports," states the Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports executive order. "This is demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports.""Therefore, it is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy," the order continues. "It shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in womens sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth."Notice how the White House ties in fairness with "dignity and truth," and says that allowing "men to compete in women's sports" isn't just unfair, but is "demeaning" and "dangerous to women and girls."In reality, the specter of "fairness" in girls' sports is just a Trojan horse so that the political right can advance its more insidious beliefs about trans people. The "fairness" issue about trans girls in sports cannot be separated from transphobic lies about trans women being monsters, being violent, and being men.Megan Peterson, executive director at Gender Justice, says that the anti-trans movement has taken advantage of the fact that "sports tap into deep cultural values: fairness, competition, belonging.""The anti-trans movement has weaponized these values, spreading myths that trans athletes pose a threat, echoing the racist rhetoric used to justify the exclusion of Black athletes that they have an unfair advantage, their presence will ruin the game, that they dont belong," she stated in a February opinion piece in the Minnesota Star Tribune. "The fixation on trans athletes is a smokescreen. This movement isnt really about protecting women or girls, competition or fairness its about controlling who gets to exist openly and freely in our society."It's no longer just the right who is fixated on the "smokescreen" of fairness. Democrats are in on it, too, even Democrats who are allies or are queer themselves. The "LGB without the T" movement isn't new. For years, there have been groups of conservative queer people who want to exclude trans people from their movement. They say that trans people are extremists who are trying to rewrite the rules of reality and have nothing to do with gay rights. Now, this messaging is gaining momentum, even within Trump's government. Buttigieg's recent comments will only help it continue to do that. This summer, The New York Times published several articles advancing this view."They demanded that the entire society change in a fundamental way so that the sex binary no longer counted," Andrew Sullivan wrote in a guest essay about the "trans extremists" he argues have taken over the queer community. "Elementary school children were taught that being a boy or a girl might not have anything to do with their bodies and that their parents had merely guessed whether they were a boy or a girl when they were born. In fact, sex was no longer to be recognized at birth it was now merely assigned, penciled in."Sullivan maintained that while trans adults should have rights, including access to gender-affirming care, he argued that "fighting a losing battle to allow trans women to compete in womens sports and for biological men to be in womens intimate spaces and to perpetuate risky, inadequately tested sex changes on children, including gay and lesbian ones, is dumb, offensive to common sense and risks a much bigger backlash."It seems the Democratic Party, with leaders like Buttigieg and Newsom, agrees. In his comments, Buttigieg admitted that he knows trans youth are one of the "most vulnerable minorities in this country and in the world." So why won't he fight for them? It seems like Democrats have decided that supporting trans youth is a losing battle, and even if it is morally right, it's not worth the fight anymore. If the gay leaders in the party won't stand up for trans youth, will anyone? As more and more Democrats join in on Republican talking points about trans people, it's becoming more and more clear why a queer artist like Chappell Roan would decline to endorse Kamala Harris in her presidential run last year. The Democratic Party is making it clear that it doesn't see trans people as a priority. So it should come as no surprise that trans folks and their allies would soon return the favor.Mey Rude is a staff writer for Out.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. WWW.OUT.COMDid Lukas Gage just shade ex-husband Chris Appleton for memoir release?Ex-husbands Lukas Gage and Chris Appleton are sharing more details about their marriage whether intentionally or unintentionally. Outside of his gym in Los Angeles yesterday, TMZ stopped Gage to ask him about his ex-husband's newly announced memoir coming out in January 2026, which is set to be released three months after Gage's book. (@) A photographer at TMZ chatted with Gage as he was walking out and asked him about Appleton's book coming out so soon after his, to which Gage replied that he's "honored to be influential in someone else's release date of their book." When he was asked if he felt Appleton did it intentionally, the actor responded and said he wasn't sure.Gage didn't engage much when it came to follow-up questions, but when asked where they stood and if he knew about the almost similar release dates, he responded, "It was a surprise."This interaction with the media comes not too soon after Appleton appeared on Jay Shetty's podcast and opened up about being in his first romantic relationship with a man, nonetheless, a celebrity. During the conversation, the celebrity hairstylist, whose client list includes Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Dua Lipa, opened up about the "private pain" he was experiencing during his marriage. As a father of two kids in their early 20s, he said his biggest priority was his kids. "I don't mind people saying good and bad things," Appleton said during the interview. "But, for me, as a dad, I wanted to protect my kidsI'm very aware that any relationship I go into, there will be a conversation around that."He also revealed that he was the one who filed for divorce from Gage. "It's a bit like going to buy a house: I like bright and lots of space; I don't like confined and dark. Some people do. And that's OK," the hairstylist said. "We're just not aligned."0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMBD Wong's 'Maybe Happy Ending' open letter has over 2,400 signaturesBroadway, film, and TV star BD Wong is calling for the creators of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Maybe Happy EndingEnding to reconsider a recent casting decision.Maybe Happy Ending tells the story of two robots, Oliver and Claire, who fall in love in a futuristic Seoul. It was nominated for 10 Tonys, winning Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score. Darren Criss, who played Oliver, also won a Tony for the role. He was the first Asian-American actor to win the award. Now, Criss has stepped down from the role. When the show announced that Andrew Barth Feldman, who is white, would be replacing Criss, some fans spoke out. They argued that the play is an Asian story, and should have Asian main characters. They say that a white man taking over the role erases an opportunity for an Asian man to be the lead in a Broadway musical. Now, Wong has shared an open letter, signed by over 2,400 of his friends and followers, asking the creators to reconsider the decision.See on InstagramIn his post, Wong explained that he wrote a long-form essay about the issue and asked his followers and friends to attach their names for support. Over 2,400 of them signed on."It goes way beyond the back and forth about this particular casting decision and the 'ownership' that much of the Asian Community seems to feel over this particular character in this particular musical," he wrote.Wong spoke of a time in 1990 when he and playwright David Henry Hwang were two names on a list of "Asian Americans and others" calling out the casting of white British actor Jonathan Price as a Vietnamese character in the Broadway production of Miss Saigon. He says the current situation makes him feel "as if no time has passed; as if nothing's changed. As if no one learned anything from that racial dismissal and exclusion 35 years ago.""Last week, Maybe Happy Ending announced that its Tony-winning hero, the charismatic Darren Criss, ending his run, will be replaced by Andrew Barth Feldman. This essay concerns the fact that Mr. Criss is of Asian American descent, and Mr. Feldman is not," Wong's essay says.It adds that the show is a "rare feat of representation" and says "in challenging times, it deserves survival."Wong said that the Asian-American community is arguing that Oliver should be Asian in the play "because we're always at war over our own representation.""Advocating for one's own representation is stultifyingly self-debasing," he continues. "No, we don't want to 'get somebody fired.' We must express, though, how painful it is to be passed over, yet how used to it we've become. How incomprehensibly rare 'Asian Shows' are.""Team MHE does what it thinks it must. Producing a Broadway musical is a b*tch. I feel for them," he says. "Yet, this decision's still taken as a hard slap in the face of both the Asian actor community and the Asian audience. Our long-standing history of exclusion is real. We're incapable of 'rising above' a producer's odd business-based decision, because our life is steeped in exclusion."He says that the creators of the musical seemed to be "unaware" of the effects this casting choice would have, and that the "decision-makers didn't anticipate much reaction."However, he says, the Asian community "is left feeling betrayed."People who signed on to the letter include Broadway actors Ali Stroker, Anthony Rapp, Conrad Ricamora, Joaquina Kalukango, and Telly Leung.Wong shared the post on Monday, August 11, and immediately had more support in his comments, including from Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu.See on InstagramFollowing the initial backlash to the casting, the show's writers, Hue Park and Will Aronson, responded with a statement shared on Instagram, saying they will continue "conversations as Maybe Happy Ending continues its journey onstage.""We wrote a show about robots so we could engage more intimately with the most basic human questions of love and loss, creating the roles of Oliver and Claire to be avatars of these universal questions," the statement reads."They were meant to be products created by a global company, and so never bore Korean names, even in the Korean version of the show. At the same time, we understand that for many in the AAPI community, the makeup of our opening night cast became a meaningful and rare point of visibility," it continues. "We've heard how strongly people connected to that representation, even if it wasn't our original intent, and how this casting decision has reopened old wounds."See on InstagramHelen Shen, who is dating Feldman, wrote on Instagram that she "would have found a beacon of hope in seeing our show on TV on the Tony Awards," adding that "a part of me is mourning that along with the community."However, she added that "to have this opportunity to play opposite my favorite actor in the world for 9 weeks, who happens to be PERFECT for the role, is a huge moment of joy" for her.The creators of Maybe Happy Ending have yet to respond to Wong's letter.0 Comments 0 Shares 8 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMFrom tennis to roller derby: ranking the gayest women's sportsIt's no secret that queer women love sports. From growing up playing softball or basketball, to the classic lesbian date of going on a hike, to the thousands of queer women who play professional sports around the world, sports are an integral part of many queer women's lives. With that in mind, we've put together this list of the eleven gayest women's sports. We know this list is going to be controversial. How gay a sport is may be very personal to many people. Yes, all of these sports are staggeringly gay, and all of them deserve a spot in the top five, maybe even the top three. That being said, we did put them in order from least gay to gayest. So this is canon now. Did your favorite sport make our list? Keep reading to find out!11. TennisSee on InstagramTennis is a classic gay sport, with legends of the sport like Billie Jean King (above) and Martina Navritolova (although she's since become a TERF) being outed in the early 1980s. Today, queer stars like Daria Kasatkina, Greet Minnen, Demi Schuurs, Nadia Podoroska, Guillermina Naya, Emina Bektas, and Tara Moore carry on the legacy.10. Climbing/BoulderingRock climbing and bouldering may not be the first sports you think of when you think of queer women. However, the more you think about the two, the more they go perfectly together. I mean, what lesbian doesn't love carabiners? And that hand strength and dexterity? Legendary. Plus, climbing legends like Lynn Hill and Silvia Vasquez-Lavado give queer women a strong presence in the history of the sport. 9. BoxingSee on InstagramTraditionally, a hyper-masculine sport, queer women like Christy Martin and Nicola Adams (above) have been making history in boxing for years. Currently, stars like Nesthy Petecio, Kellie Harrington, Cindy Ngamba, and Beatriz Ferreira are keeping up the legacy with Olympic wins. Lesbians love a woman with muscles, and in boxing, women can show off that those impressive guns aren't just for looks!8. WrestlingSee on InstagramThe pageantry and costumes of professional wrestling make the sport inherently gay, and now that more and more women are getting opportunities to join, the sport is becoming a haven for queer women! Wrestlers like Sonya Deville (above), Mercedes Martinez, Shayna Baszler, Toni Storm, and Saraya are some queer stars we love to see in the ring!7. Field HockeyField Hockey is an all-time classic lesbian high school sport. Many girls first discovered their queerness while running around a field, bashing into other girls, and chasing a ball with sticks. As long as there are girls playing sports, queer girls will play this sport.6. Ice HockeySee on InstagramMuch like field hockey, ice hockey is one of the gayest sports a woman can play. It's such a gay sport that there are several examples of opponents from star women's hockey teams marrying each other! In 2018, Team USA star Meghan Duggan (above) and Team Canada star Gillian Apps got married. Previously, Team USA star Julie Chu married Canadian star Caroline Ouellette, and before that, Team Canada's Jayna Hefford and Team USA's Kathleen Kauth were married!5. SoftballFor many queer women, softball has a long tradition of being considered the ultimate lesbian sport. The show A League of Their Own, based on the movie of the same name and the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, highlighted the gay history of softball and baseball, and still today, queer women are drawn to the sports.3. BasketballSee on InstagramLesbians like Brittney Griner (above) have been making history in the WNBA since the early 2000s, and are an even bigger part of the sport now. Women's basketball would be nothing without queer players and fans, and the WNBA currently has at least 41 queer players in it.4. SoccerSee on InstagramSoccer is another sport inexorably linked to lesbianism. The NWSL is one of the gayest sports leagues in the world, with over 50 out players playing in 2025. With legends like Megan Rapinoe, Christen Press, Tobin Heath, Ali Krieger, and Marta (above) as well as current stars like Tierna Davidson, Esther Gonzalez, Debinha, and Jess Fishlock, the sport will always be linked to queer women.2. RugbySee on InstagramSports can hardly get gayer than rugby, the tougher, more physical cousin of soccer. Rugby players get bruised, beaten up, down, and dirty during games, and queer women can't stop signing up.In 2024, Team USA won its first Olympic medal in rugby in 100 years, led by six out players on the team, including Alev Kelter (above). Other out rugby stars who won medals in 2024 include New Zealand legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe and Canada's Olivia Apps.1. Roller DerbyDoes anything say "queer women" like roller derby? This aggressive and physical sport is full of pageantry and slamming into one another things that most lesbians love. It's also a haven for alternative crowds, meaning that queer women already have an inroad. Many sources even point to Texas Roller Derby, a queer-dominated league based in Austin, Texas, as one of the main leagues to revitalize the sport in the early 2000s. WNBA, NWSL, and women's rugby matches are great places to meet queer women, but nothing beats a good roller derby if you're looking for queer dates or queer community.0 Comments 0 Shares 6 Views 0 Reviews

But the day that Andry disappeared, it felt different. It felt really desperate and scary. The reaction was immediate.Media megaphone meets momentWithin days, CBS News published a leaked deportation manifest with Hernndez Romeros name on it. Lawyers, activists, journalists, and concerned citizens flooded ImmDefs inbox asking how to help. Human rights organizations began paying attention. MSNBC star anchor Rachel Maddow aired a segment on The Rachel Maddow Show, featuring Toczylowski discussing Hernndez Romeros case, giving him a name and showing photos of him, his face softly contoured with makeup, holding brushes, smiling. She revealed that he was a gay makeup artist, actor, and pageant participant. He looked nothing like the criminal ICE implied. She warned that Andrys deportation was not a clerical mistake but a deliberate act of cruelty, calling it as bad as it gets. But this one struck a nerve. By this time, another man, a Maryland father from El Salvador named Kilmar Abrego Garcia, had been deported to CECOT in error, according to the Trump administration, and that case had garnered national outrage. You had three queer hosts up there. They brought a lot of attention to the issue, but it was also funny and engaging, and thats just what Crooked does.As the English-language media spotlight intensified, another front was quietly building power. The power of visibilityWhile outlets like Crooked and MSNBC pushed the story across progressive circles in the U.S., GLAAD focused on Latin American and Spanish-language audiences, many of whom understood the word disappeared in a way most Americans do not.Monica Trasandes, GLAADs director of Spanish-language and Latinx media, knew the weight of the word. She was born in Uruguay and fled during the rise of military dictatorships. The word disappeared is a huge part of Latin American history, Trasandes told The Advocate. So seeing that start to happen here is frightening. I know where it leads.Related: Coalition of 52 Democrats push for proof of life for deported gay asylum-seeker Andry Hernndez RomeroIn Latin America, the word desaparecido doesnt imply a bureaucratic oversight. It means something far darker. During the 1970s and 80s, U.S.-backed military regimes across the region, including in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Guatemala, and El Salvador, abducted tens of thousands of students, labor organizers, queer people, and political dissidents. These individuals werent arrested. They were disappeared. Taken in the dead of night, held in clandestine prisons, tortured, killed, and buried in unmarked graves, if at all. In Argentina alone, human rights groups estimate that 30,000 people were disappeared under the junta. Families were left with no answers, no justice, no graves to visit. The tactic wasnt simply to remove someone. It was to erase them entirely, as if they had never existed. That history lingers heavily in Latin American memory, which is why, Trasandes said, Hernndez Romeros case one man disappeared without notice or trial triggered such outrage among Spanish-speaking audiences. They recognized the pattern.Related: Gay makeup artist Andry Hernndez Romero describes horrific sexual & physical abuse at CECOT in El SalvadorGLAAD acted quickly. Despite following the asylum-seeking process, Andry Hernndez Romero was still wrongfully detained like countless others, she said. At the end of June, word came that Hernndez Romeros family had still not heard anything about his well-being and continued to agonize over his whereabouts. The ACLU lawsuitAs the public campaign gained steam, the American Civil Liberties Union brought a legal challenge to the Trump administrations use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan asylum seekers to El Salvador. The lawsuit argued that the administration violated basic constitutional protections by denying individuals the right to notice, evidence, or a hearing.Since then, federal courts have begun weighing in. At least four district courts have ruled that the Alien Enemies Act was unlawfully invoked, noting that the U.S. is not at war with Venezuela and that wartime powers cannot be used to justify mass deportations based on unproven gang allegations.Related: Democratic lawmakers fly to El Salvador and demand action on gay man Trump sent to CECOT prisonThe U.S. Supreme Court weighed in, too. In May, it reaffirmed that noncitizens targeted under the AEA are entitled to due process, including notice and the opportunity to challenge their removal in court. Just 24 hours notice without guidance, the Court said, likely doesnt meet that standard. United States Supreme Court buildingshutterstock creativeLower courts also questioned the governments claim that the men held in CECOT were no longer under U.S. control. While one judge accepted a State Department affidavit to that effect, he warned the government against misleading the court and noted that the gang allegations ranged from flimsy to frivolous. The legal challenges are ongoing. But across the judiciary, a consensus was emerging: The Trump administration cannot use a centuries-old wartime statute to disappear people without constitutional safeguards.Building political pressureAs protests grew louder, lawmakers began to act. Among the first was Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the first out gay immigrant elected to Congress. He traveled to El Salvador to see what was happening firsthand. When I went to El Salvador in April, I met the [U.S.] ambassador, and I mentioned Andry to the ambassador then. This was the first time the ambassador had heard about his case, Garcia told The Advocate.Garcias office coordinated with ImmDef to try to confirm that Hernndez Romero was alive. At the time, there were no letters. No calls. Just silence. In the weeks that followed, Garcia and members of the Congressional Equality Caucus, a group of LGBTQ+ and ally lawmakers, sent formal letters to the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department demanding information and a review of ICEs use of the Alien Enemies Act.Related: Democratic lawmakers fly to El Salvador and demand action on gay man Trump sent to CECOT prisonAt one House Oversight Committee hearing in May, Garcia pleaded with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to provide proof of life to Hernndez Romeros mom. This wasnt just a political error. It was a humanitarian crisis, Lovitz told The Advocate. And we treated it like one. HRC gathered more than 14,000 petition signatures, worked with Pride organizers to include Hernndez Romeros image in programs, and activated state-level staff to elevate his case in media and speeches. The release and the road aheadAfter 125 days inside CECOT, Hernndez Romero was released and returned to Venezuela on July 18. But it wasnt justice. It wasnt asylum. It wasnt even safety. His release was the result of a secretive prisoner swap, not a legal victory, and the U.S. government has offered no acknowledgment that anything went wrong.Behind the scenes, the Trump administration had been negotiating a structured exchange with the Venezuelan government to bring back American hostages and political prisoners. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had led formal diplomatic talks. But those negotiations were derailed for weeks, according to the New York Times, after Ric Grenell, Trumps out special projects envoy operating outside official channels, attempted to strike a side deal with Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro. Grenell floated a separate proposal involving Chevron oil rights, undercutting Rubios efforts and stalling the release of detainees held at CECOT.Related: Andry Hernndez Romero, gay asylum seeker disappeared by Trump, part of prisoner swapUltimately, the detainees, including Hernndez Romero, were freed, but not allowed to return to the United States. Instead, they were deported back to Venezuela, the very country Hernndez Romero had fled in fear for his life as a gay man. She was eventually released in a high-profile exchange for a convicted Russian arms dealer. "They kidnap random civilians, wrongfully detain them, and then use them for a prisoner exchange, Miller said. Thats what this was.Miller accused the U.S. government of misleading the public about its role. Trump administration officials had told judges that the detained men at CECOT were beyond the jurisdiction of the U.S. That assertion was hard to stomach since Trump had paid El Salvador to house the migrants. "They have been lying this whole time, he said. The United States is and has been in control here.Without much fanfare, the men that the Trump administration previously called the "worst of the worst," were free.Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin did not respond to The Advocates request for comment. What Hernndez Romero knows, for now, is that he survived. The relief and stress on his face were evident as the fist photos of his reunion with family were published. As far as we know, being held incommunicado, he has no idea, Toczyloswski told The Advocate. He has no idea that his story was on 60 Minutes. He has no idea that millions of people around the world were writing letters or showing up to rallies with his name on posters.Related: Gay asylum seeker Andry Hernndez Romero remains in danger, advocates warn Venezuelan stylist Andry Hernandez Romero (R) greets his father Luis Felipe Hernandez after returning home in Capacho village, Tachira State, Venezuela on July 23, 2025.JOHNNY PARRA/AFP via Getty ImagesEllis noted that even with Hernndez Romeros release, [his] safety is not guaranteed, and urged continued public pressure. Every person, organization, and media outlet who shared Andrys story, attended a rally, and spoke with friends and family about his case showed that change is possible when we work together. But for the coalition that rose around him, the fight isnt over. The Alien Enemies Act remains on the books. Deportations continue. U.S. officials have not admitted wrongdoing. This was never about just one person, Lovitz said. It was about what kind of country we are. And whether were going to be complicit when vulnerable people are targeted for cruelty.Hernndez Romeros legal team is still evaluating his options, including whether another country, perhaps one in Europe, would take his asylum case. Toczylowski said she doesnt think he would be safe in the U.S. under the current administration. Why Andrys story broke through Not every human rights violation sparks such a movement. But Maddow believes Hernndez Romeros case did because it exposed a tactic as old as state violence: erasing someones humanity to justify their persecution.People respond to other human beings, Maddow said in an interview with The Advocate in June. And people who would oppress us try to make sure we never see the people being oppressed as human beings. The dehumanization and depersonalization of the targets of this kind of oppression is a tactic that they are trying, and that is failing.Related: Kristi Noem wont say if gay asylum-seeker deported to El Salvadors hellhole prison is still aliveMaddow said the Trump administrations use of the Alien Enemies Act depended on treating people as abstractions, as potential threats, not as individuals. When the government takes due process away, Maddow argued, it often insists that the person harmed didnt deserve it, that if people only knew more, theyd agree the person was dangerous or unworthy. But when the target is visible and knowable, that tactic fails.Thats what happened with Andry, she said. People didnt see a faceless, nameless, violent criminal. They saw someone like them. He was a gay makeup artist from Venezuela. He had a name. A photo. A story. People saw his face, saw him holding brushes, smiling. They learned about the tattoos that said mom and dad. They read what happened to him inside CECOT.Related: Rachel Maddow sees Americans active resistance as key to overcoming Donald Trumps strongman gameOnce the story became personal, outrage followed. Maddow thinks that the American resistance movement against the Trump administration is the most important story of the current time.Anywhere where weve got sort of personalized details about the people who they are mistreating in this way, you are seeing the American people stand up and say, I dont want you treating that person that way, Maddow said. She pointed to other examples: a waitress in Missouri whose detention drew national attention after a New York Times profile; Mohsen Madawi, a Columbia University student whose neighbors helped secure his release; and Ramesha Ozturk, a Tufts University graduate student whose abduction was caught on a Ring camera. In each case, people didnt just respond to the policy; they responded to the person. Andrys case, she said, exemplified how that emotional connection works. Due process is something that is A, boring, and B, something that is absolutely the iron substructure of the rule of law, Maddow said. Its the basis for every legal thing, every governed thing, every bit of fairness in the world.0 Comments 0 Shares 7 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMGo Ask Alex: I'm pansexual and autistic. How do I date and have great sex?Hi, I am William, and I wanted to email you for advice and help on being a pansexual male. I am 28 years old, and I read your website from time to time, and I have had good and bad experiences with guys, and the fact that I have autism. If you have any tips or advice for me, that would be helpful and useful. If so, thank you so much.Hi William,I'm also neurodivergent. I get it. We live in a world filled with people who, in some respects, communicate better than we do. I use my writing to work around that my clearest, easiest self-expression happens on the page but others like us have their own ways of expressing themselves that work best for them. Find an outlet that allows you to shape your thoughts outside of your head writing, art, making playlists, whatever. Itll help. As for dating: Yeah, you might have a harder time being both pansexual and neurodivergent. Then again, you might not. I am both pansexual and neurodivergent, and I do pretty well. My point is that anything can be a hurdle or an inhibition, but nothing has to be: You are not set up for failure or struggle in the arena of intimacy because of who or how you are. You might just not yet have figured out how to use these aspects of your mind in your favor. I now see my funny brain as a blessing. I dont read non-direct forms of communication very well, so I have no taste for sarcasm or passive aggression. People with these traits are quickly weeded out: I dont need or want to go home with them, and they tend to find me too direct and boring. Our mismatch benefits both of us. Being direct needing and fostering clear, straightforward communication makes me good at kink and more adventurous sex that requires precise, overt, explicitly-stated desires and consent. In bed, I like asking, Does that feel good? and, to be frank, I have to ask I cant read nonverbal pleasure well. I believe this makes me a good, attentive lover. Yes, there are drawbacks. I can be too logical in an arena rife with murky emotions that arent always clear and precise. Thats hard. At a young age, I found it easy to separate and compartmentalize sex and love, so I gained sexual competence quickly. I became a great sex worker. (Most successful sex workers are neurodivergent.) As a result, my sex and love skills are not at the same level. Feelings are harder. My logical, compartmentalizing brain was not prepared for the grown-up battle of bringing sex and love together of navigating things that can live separately but dont have to and when they collide, I often find myself without the correct words. (Even the way Im phrasing that is so autistic. There are no correct words theres just words, and I have to try and use them as best as I can. Thats relationships!) William, Im sorry to say there are no tricks, no shortcuts. But thats true for everyone, autistic and otherwise. In sex and dating, there is no better teacher than just doing it sometimes you just have to dive. You will break your own heart and the hearts of others, and thats what you must do to learn how heartbreak feels and, worse, how it feels to hurt someone else. Everyone needs a few good, rough breakups. (The first one will be the worst. The second and third ones will be terrible, but not so bad. Your fourth breakup might finally be gentle.) At this point in my life, Im wary of anyone who hasnt had a horrible, drawn-out, messy breakup. Thats a vital growth experience that everyone needs. How else do you learn how to do it better next time? The only thing better than a little experience in sex and dating is a lot of it. Have sex with lots of people. Date lots of people. Heres a sentence I think only highly logical people will appreciate: More data points lead to a more competent education. Every person you go home with is a data point, and from each one, you learn. Thats how it is for everyone, though romantic, highly emotional people might not like to see it in such stark terms. But thats how it is. Sluts are the best lovers because theyre practiced. People whove had a few breakups know how to do it without so much yelling or slamming doors. People whove had partners who listen well know, from that point on, how good it feels to be heard. You cant know how your autism benefits your love life until you love, and you cant know how it helps you sexually until you fuck. Or get fucked. Or both. So do all of it lots of it. Honestly, pansexuality is the bigger challenge, but its mostly a challenge of language. At a bar or in a club toilet, its hard to communicate to someone you like what pansexual means, and theres no need to do so unless they ask. But if they ask and some people will you should come up with a short sentence explaining what pansexual means to you in the simplest terms. Some pansexuals say the classic line, I care about whats between the ears, not whats between the legs. I dont use that line because I do care about whats between the legs, at least a little bit. In general, I say: If theres a connection, Ill have sex with anyone. This works for me. And its the truth. Having that little sentence ready overcomes the biggest hurdle of being pansexual explaining it. Most people in the modern world know what straight, gay, lesbian, and bisexual mean. The niche sexualities like pansexual (or, my god, sexually fluid, asexual, and the combinations, like asexual homoromantic) need an explainer, and having to explain ones sexuality often feels very unsexy. Making it more challenging for us is the fact that pansexuals usually seek different things with different genders. (For example: with women, Im only submissive, but with men I am dominant too.) Keep a few quick, easy explanations for this stuff so that, when it comes up, you can say what you like without turning it into a long conversation. Casual sex hookups will not ask, but potential romantic partners (dates) will, so these little explanations do matter. Be prepared for rejection everyone faces it at some point. The universality of rejection makes it no less painful, but over time, it does sting less.Youre not meant to be liked and wanted by everyone. Nobody is.Rejection is a universal human experience and is an inevitable part of the sex and love journey. Along with rejection, connection and love are also human experiences, and they happen more often than you might think. You just have to go looking for them. Hey there! Im Alexander Cheves. Im a sex writer and former sex workerI worked in the business for over 12 years. WWW.OUT.COMHere's why Helen Mirren says tomatoes are 'bisexual'Helen Mirren has declared that tomatoes are the newest bicon! On Monday evening, the actress appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside costar Pierce Brosnan to promote Netflix's upcoming film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club. There, she caused quite a stir with her comments on the bisexuality of fruits and vegetables. While Fallon made salsa for the stars using a tomato he had proudly grown, Mirren offered some gardening advice."Incidentally, I just want to give you a tip about growing tomatoes. You know the little flower? Well, a good way to get a tomato out of a flower is you have to tremble the flower like this," she said, wiggling one bent finger in front of her. "Did you know that?"Fallon started laughing immediately, telling Mirren to "stop doing that" and saying, "I'm not doing thatat all tomy tomatoes!""You've got to. A tomato is a bisexual thing, you see," she repliedinsisting "Well, it is!"as the host, her costar, and the audience erupted in laughter."I looked it up very recently because I had a problem with my tomatoes. It's bisexual, so you have to go around to each tomato, each flower, and go like this," she added, making the motion again, while Fallon tried to hide his embarrassment.Mirren may be on to something. In flowers, the stamen, where pollen is made, is labeled the "male" part, and the pistil, which receives the pollen and produces eggs that develop into seeds, is labeled the "female" part. Tomato flowers, incidentally, have both on the same plant. While this isn't the same thing as being bisexual, tomatoes indeed have both male and female reproductive structures. Therefore, any tomato plant can be a "mother" or "father" to other plants.Watch Mirren's interview below! - YouTube youtu.be0 Comments 0 Shares 8 Views 0 Reviews

This will be the singer's first album since acquiring the masters ownership of her past discography in other words, one can assume that she no longer has any reason to re-record those projects (that she now owns) through the Taylor's Version series of album re-issues, thus focusing more on new bodies of work.As it is the case with anything that concerns Taylor Swift, even her most casual announcements are usually packed with references, Easter eggs, hints, and lore for Swifties and pop culture enthusiasts to go into hyperdrive. Are you ready for it?Here's everything you need to know about Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl. What is The Life of a Showgirl release date?Taylor Swift still hasn't disclosed when The Life of a Showgirl comes out, but the title has been revealed, and more information should be coming in at any moment.Even though preorders for the upcoming album are available and include a shipping date set for Monday, October 13 for shipping, the official website also notes that this is not the official release date for the album, adding:"Official release date to be announced."How was the Taylor Swift new album announced?See on InstagramTaylor Swift announced her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, during an appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, and cohosted by his brother, Jason Kelce.A clip from this episode of New Heights features Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce sitting side by side, as well as Jason Kelce filming from a separate location."So I wanted to show you something," Swift started.Jason reacted, "OK, what do we got?""We got, uh" Swift went, grabbing something to show the camera.Jason continued, "a briefcase. In other words, fans are expecting to see an extended appearance from Swift in the podcast's new episode. When does the Taylor Swift episode on the New Heights podcast come out? This new episode of the New Heights podcast featuring Taylor Swift is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, August 13 at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET on all podcast streaming platforms. For instance, fans can listen and/or watch to New Heights on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or through Wondery.Taylor Swift quietly created a playlist that hints at what fans can expect from The Life of a Showgirl.Taylor Swift's official profile on Spotify quietly created a playlist titled, "And, baby, that's show business for you [heart on fire emoji]."This playlist includes 22 songs from Swift's discography and seemingly hints at what fans can expect from The Life of a Showgirl. On the other hand, several Swift albums include lyrics that reference "lock" as a verb or a noun. The list shared on Tumblr can be seen below. WWW.OUT.COMLegends of Drag 2025: Celebrating icons of resilienceOn June 14, the New York City AIDS Memorial presented its third annual Legends of Drag program as part of our 2025 Pride Month offerings. Held at the Church of the Village, just steps from the Memorial and in the West Village neighborhood considered an epicenter of the AIDS epidemic, the evening brought together doyennes of drag and other performers in a joyful, defiant celebration of identity legacy, and resilience.Legends of Drag celebrates pioneers whose contributions to culture and community are too often overlooked. Many of the queens featured this yearSimone, Coco LaChine, Ruby Rims, LaRitza DuMont, and Stella D'orohave been fixtures of New York City nightlife for decades. This year, they were joined by The Red Ribbon Revue, a vocal ensemble established by Sam Bolen and Brian Mummert, which highlights the voices of HIV-positive artists across generations and the music of those lost to AIDS.The evening featured pop lip synchs, campy ballads, Broadway classics, and historic songs from 1993's AIDS Quilt Songbook, and was poignantly celebratory. Imagine LaRitza DuMont's provocative lip synch to "Bring Me to Life" by metal band Evanescence followed not long after by Brian Mummert singing "Walt Whitman in 1989," composed by Chris DeBlasio (1959-1993) or Brian and Sam's duet to "Love Don't Need a Reason" by Michael Callen (1955-1993). Stella D'oro closed the evening with a raucous rendition of Stephen Sondheim's "Live Alone and Like It," as performed by the legendary Liza Minelli, delivering a moment that was both hysterical and moving.Legends of Drag is a reminder that visibility and the preservation of LGBTQ+ stories and HIV/AIDS history are inextricably linked. The event provides a platform for performers who lived through, and in many cases were directly shaped by, the AIDS epidemic. At a time when drag artists are increasingly targeted by political attacks, when trans and gender-nonconforming people and people living with HIV/AIDS face heightened threats, Legends underscores the necessity of creating space for these communities to be seen and heard on their terms. It's also worth noting that many of the evening's participants themselves are living with HIV, are Long-Term Survivors, or are veteran activists. Ruby Rims, who has been living with AIDS since the 1990s and who has been a fixture in the New York cabaret world for over 50 years, spoke candidly about what it means to still be performing in her 70s. Sam and Brian created the Red Ribbon Revue in 2019 to allow younger, HIV-positive performers to share their voices, experiences, and the music of artists lost to AIDS. Others, like Coco LaChine, has raised over a million dollars for AIDS service organizations through her work with the Imperial Court of New York and Simone, who began performing in the city's clubs in the 1990s, represent a throughline from the street queens and trans and AIDS activists of generations past, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. The continuity between past and present, between grief and celebration, is central to the New York City AIDS Memorial's mission. Our programs are designed not only to remember but to foster intergenerational dialogue, support artistic expression, and insist on the continued relevance of HIV/AIDS in our cultural and political life. Our work is especially critical now. As anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric makes gains in mainstream discourse, promoting the visibility of queer and trans artists, especially those living with HIV, is not accidental. It is a core part of our mission to preserve history and build a more inclusive and equitable future.Whether it's Pride Month or not, we will continue to make space for these legendary performers. We will continue to present their stories and share their work. And we will continue to ensure that the lessons and legacies of the AIDS epidemic are not just preserved, but seen, heard, and celebrated.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. WWW.OUT.COM'Red Sonja's MJ Bassett talks injecting compassion in red-headed warriorIf you've been breathlessly awaiting the triumphant return of Red Sonja to the big screen, you better drop what you're doing and check your local theater listings pronto, because today might be your only chance. As stated in the trailer for director MJ Bassett's Red Sonja, an all-new live-action fantasy starring Matilda Lutz and Robert Sheehan, the film is in theaters for a very limited "one night only engagement on August 13.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Based on the character created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith in 1973, Red Sonja (inspired by the pistol-toting swashbuckler Red Sonya of Rogatino created by Robert E. Howard) was a scantily clad Hyborian warrior who often teamed up with Conan the Barbarian in Marvel Comics. In 1985, the red-headed sword master was famously adapted for the big screen in the critically panned Red Sonja starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even though it eventually developed a cult following, the sword-and-sorcery flop failed to spawn a sequel, and it would be decades before rumblings of another Red Sonja project would surface. For years, Sonja lived on in the comics, including Dynamite Comics' critically applauded run by award-winning writer Gail Simone in 2013. As for another live-action outing, the project would remain in development hell for years, jumping from the hands of directors like Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn), Simon West (Con-Air), and Bryan Singer (X-Men).None of the projects ever came to fruition, but Rodriguez's brief fling with the project famously produced a poster depicting Rose McGowan as the crimson-haired warrior. The seemingly cursed project even once landed in the hands of queer activist and Emmy-winning Transparent creator Joey Soloway with Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft scribe Tasha Huo attached as the writer. But when Soloway bowed out, Bassett, one of few openly transgender directors working in Hollywood, pounced on the opportunity and scored her ultimate passion project. While Bassett is not a household name, she's become a low- to mid-budget maven of sorts, and you've more than likely have come across her work. Some notable credits on her resume include 2009's dark fantasy Solomon Kane (another pulp-era character created by Howard), 2020 action flick Rogue starring Megan Fox, and episodes of Taken, Power, and Reacher.Bassett was also once entrusted by the great Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) to let loose and go bonkers with bucket loads of blood in four episodes of Ash Vs. Evil Dead. She went on to direct an episode of Netflix's FUBAR, which paved the way for her to direct one of her childhood heroes, Schwarzenegger. Just ahead of Red Sonja's one-day-only theatrical release (fret not, it'll also be available on digital platforms August 29), Bassett sat down with Out for a candid conversation about her search for the perfect actress to play the iconic sword wielder and the challenges she faced bringing her vision to life on a shoestring budget. She also spills the beans on a scrapped cameo featuring Nielsen, and a possible Schwarzenegger-sanctioned King Conan project.Out: Before you landed this project how familiar were you with the history of Red Sonja going back to the original stories and comics?MJ Bassett: As I am obviously a Robert E. Howard fan, I knew "The Shadow of the Vulture"short story and read it. And Sonya of Rogatino, she only has like 40 lines of dialogue in the whole thing. But she's a really beautifully drawn character. But that's not [the character] I grew up with. I grew up with the 1985 movie version with Brigitte Nielsen, and I grew up with the 1973 Roy Thomas comic book adaptation for Marvel. So that was what I really knew about her. I'm not a complete comic book fan, but I knew about Sonja, I knew about Conan. You are no stranger to adapting the work of Robert E. Howardyou made a Solomon Kane movie. Can you talk about what you drew you towards Red Sonja and how the project landed in your lap?I was a child of the VHS boomand that run of '80s fantasy pictures mattered a lot to me. But it's a genre which pretty much had died out Ladyhawke, Beastmaster those slightly campy fantasy pictures. Even though I'm a trans woman, I'm not campy, I don't like campy stuff in my work anyway. I enjoy campy stuff, but I can't make things like that. So, chasing that thread, because of Robert Howard, the way he writes it was always serious and dark and intense and that was good for me. When I was asked to adapt Solomon Kane, it was like, oh, I completely get this character. I understand his darkness. And it was certainly pre-transition for me as well, so I was pretty intense and dark myself. And then, when I finished Solomon Kane, and it was well-regarded but only moderately successful, people said, "We assume you want to do Conan next." No, I want to do Sonja. "Why the hell do you want to do Red Sonja?" And 10 years later, I come out and everybody goes, "Ah, that's why you want to do Sonja."But, as an iconic female character, there's nobody else like her in fantasy. You've got Red Sonja and maybe Lucy Lawless as Xena, Warrior Princess. But you wouldn't have Xena without Sonja, so she's the protean female fantasy character. But what always slightly annoyed me was the fact essentially, she was a female character entirely filtered through male gaze. She existed just to be a big-breasted woman with a sword fighting alongside Conan. She was essentially a male character, but just drawn to look like a woman. And that always slightly grated me. And then when Gail Simone came along, her run took Sonja and gave her something else. And I really respect that. So I chased this thing for like a decade. I went in for meetings occasionally with the studio who owned it, and they were always in development with it, and Robert Rodriguez was going to do it.And Rose McGowan attached to star as Sonja.Yeah, that poster still exists. It was actually hanging on the wall of the studio when I went in to make Sonja every day. They didn't even take the damn poster down. The project also ended up in Bryan Singer's hands at one point, too.Well, the less we talk about that, the better. But yes. Bryan was going to do a very big-budget version, I heard. And then Joey Soloway was going to do it, which I, obviously coming from that queer space, was like, "Ah, Joey's got it. Okay, I'm not going to get it." And that didn't work out. And I pursued the company and I said to them, "Listen, there's nobody else who's qualified to make this picture like me.Not in the budget space that you want to work at." I make pretty low-budget pictures, but I also make them look really big. And that's the key to what I do, and I wanted to make my Sonja. People may not like what I've done, but this is my Red Sonja. This is a woman who is powerful and can be violent, but at the heart of it all, has compassion. When it came to finding your Sonja, can you talk about the key ingredients or qualities you were looking for and the moment you realized Matilda Lutz was the one.We knew the star of Red Sonja was the character rather than the actress, so there was no real pressure to find a superstar. But I ran the gamut from fighters and sports models who had what you would traditionally consider the physical element. But I never really cared about that because that's a view of Sonja as a superficially sexual entity. Matilda's name came up really early on because she'd been in this amazing movie called Revenge, where she sort of embodies all these things. Now, I'm not at all interested in a woman's power being derived from sexual violence being visited against her. I think it's an awful device. And obviously that's in Sonja's history as well. And I immediately want to dismiss that. But Revenge is a very special movie in lots of ways. And Matilda is just extraordinary in it. She has this Bambi-like quality: she's beautiful and innocent and wide-eyed. And then she turns it and you go, "Oh, she's going to kill you."But what she looks like is inconsequential to the power that she has sort of coursing through her veins. And I make very physical movies. I like to be in a burning forest or in a river or up a mountain or whatever the hell I'm doing. I want it to be physical and real, and that was the conversation we had.I knew that she could do the character stuff, but was she prepared to go into the physical space with me and make a movie which I felt was real? She was completely down for it. Whether it's emoting opposite Draygan (Sheehan) or she's having a fight in a burning forest with rain pouring down in this skimpy armor that she has to wear for iconic reasons, she has the acting skill set and the physical drive. That's Sonja, as far as I'm concerned.Did it ever cross your mind to get Brigitte Nielsen for a cameo? Not only did I toy with it, it exists. It didn't make the movie, unfortunately. I love Brigitte. She's such a great human being. I didn't know her before this, but obviously I watched the Red Sonja movie, but that was an incredibly interesting, very '80s take on Sonja. Short, supermodel catwalk hair and it's like, What the hell, man, right? We all have visions of what things should be and I'm sure that people who watch my Red Sonja will go, "Well, that's not how Sonja's supposed to be, she's supposed to look like this." And you go, "You know what? You are right. She is supposed to look like that for you."You were given a shoestring budget to bring your vision to life. As a director who has worked with tight amounts of money before, what are the key things you try to prioritize to maximize your limited budget? When I jumped on board this, the studio said it's not gonna be a big budget movie like Bryan Singer's. This is gonna be the MJ Bassett budget, which is a different beast. And that's okay, because once I know my parameters, I can paint within the frame that I'm given. And I don't push against that. So what you're looking for is to maximize the time you have to do things. So where are you going to shoot it?I knew I was going to shoot it in Bulgaria. That was a non-negotiable. And this movie had been in development for 17 years at the studio. Nobody believed we'd make it. And the promise I made to Millennium was that I'll get it across the line. So that's why Matilda mattered. That's why Rob Sheehan mattered, and that's where I focused my energies. I wrote so many more monster fights for this film. They all had to go.There must have been some heartbreaking sacrifices that you just didn't get to shoot.Well, it was more about not being able to finish things in post. I was going to die on the hill of the Cyclops. I wanted to have a Cyclops in a movie ever since I watched Ray Harryhausen movies as a kid. I made it the centerpiece and that's it. It's not as long or as complex as I'd intended, but every step of the way it becomes: what's the best thing for the story? What can look good? So, there was a big monster at the beginning that had to go once the visual effects budget started to become real. Now, as a filmmaker, you can curl into a corner and cry or you go, "Ok, what's the story I'm going to tell?" And it's really always about that.So long as that story remained true, as long as the trajectory of my arrow was that final scene at the end with Sonya and Draygan. [The film] ends in a way where there's compassion and humanity and understanding. And that's what I needed from this film because that's what I believe is important in the world. For the eagle-eyed fans out there, did you sprinkle in any Easter eggs throughout the film? Perhaps little nods to the original stories or comics? The character of Annisia, she's drawn from the comic. So is the character of Draygan. The big ape-looking dude, General Karlak, the ape people of Sorjoon. I had to ask the rights holders if I was allowed access to these characters because some characters exist in Conan's world.Even in Red Sonja back in the day with Arnold, he doesn't play Conan. I actually asked Arnold if he'd be in this one. I just thought what an amazing cameo it would be. Weirdly enough, I didn't know him at the time. And then I subsequently directed him in a TV show called FUBAR. And I got along incredibly well with him. He's the nicest man. And he was really keen to see Sonja. So, he actually saw it two days ago and loves it, which is amazing. He FaceTimed me to say, "I've just watched your movie. I think it's amazing." And that's incredibly heartwarming coming from one of the icons from your childhood.Did he by chance bring up King Conan? There's been talks of him reprising that role for quite some time.We talked about me making it and him being in it and the John Milius script that he adores. But the Conan rights are complicated, and I know they have other plans for it. Because I literally called them after I said, "I'm here with Arnold. Let's just do it. Let's make King Conan. I know how to make this movie. I'm now one of the few people in the world who's made this many sorcery movies. And I know what [Arnold] can do. I know what he likes to do. I know what he's capable of. And I also think there's a sort of towering final performance in there to get.The last shot in Red Sonja leaves it open for a sequel. So, are you going to play in this Sonja sandbox a little more? The question is going to be: Does it get enough of an audience to merit the spend? It's a financial decision, not a creative decision. Matilda wants to come back. I want to get back into that world because one of the things I've done is teed her up to become a little bit more like the Sonja that exists in the comic space.I know two or three storylines that I'd like to, not necessarily lift from the comics, but that I feel are appropriate for Sonja. And I've told one story about who she is and now we know what her values are. Now I can explore that more and a bit more magic, a bit more monsters. I'd go back all day long just to stand alongside Matilda.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMTramell Tillman's mom feared his coming out would 'ruin' his careerSeverance star and heartthrob Tramell Tillman discussed his coming-out story and revealed his mother's very first reaction after he came out as gay which, reportedly, had no dramatic climax or emotional hug.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Even though Tillman's deeply religious mother eventually accepted his sexuality, her initial response wasn't necessarily just positive, Variety reports in an interview with the actor.Tillman tried to come out a second time, a few years later, and chose to just blurt out the truth: "I'm gay." "I don't want you to be blackballed. I don't want you to be pigeonholed."Tillman recalled that his mother's reaction came more from a place of fear than judgment. WWW.OUT.COMThis Suzie Toot-starring queer cult-classic-in-the-making is inspiring incredible fan artThere can never be too many queer camp classics, and this year another charming, heartwarming, and hilarious title entered the pantheon with the horror comedy musical Big Easy Queens. The film, which features a pre-RuPauls Drag Race Suzie Toot, follows the epic camp tale of Miss Minnie Bouv, the lady mob boss of the French Quarter. After a rival gang member is brutally slaughtered, Minnie is convinced that retribution is coming from her nemesis Poodles Makenzie (Jennifer McClain) and her crew. So Minnie has to hatch a clever and witchy plan to protect her life, her sanity, and her turf. Its camp, funny, a little bit bloody, and packed with incredible music. Whats not to love? So naturally, its built up a cult fan base of horror fans, drag lovers, and queer folks inspired by the film to create art of their own.Bouv was surprised and delighted by the response from the audience, so PRIDE sat down to talk about what it means to be an artist that inspires others, and how that energy comes right back.PRIDE: How has the response been to the film? What has surprised you most about the response?Miss Bouv: They love the strong queer characters and, of course, female-presenting characters that are in positions of power and not in oppression. We set out to show we are in charge, and we will take retribution if you wrong us, and we're strong in that retribution. I think that's been the number one thing theyre connecting to the strong queer characters, [and] of course, Susie Toot.Susie was not a RuGirl before we filmed this, you know? But we all knew. She was 23 when we filmed it, and we knew she was not going to be here for long, you know what I mean? So then she got on RuPaul's Drag Race, and, of course, the rest is history. So that's the second thing they're really grabbing onto. The fan art has been really cool to see. Like, it's a little humbling when you see these sketches and this crazy animated art that must have taken just hours upon hours upon hours to do, and somebody is watching the film and being able to recreate that, and their spin on it. So I like that art is sort of influencing and inspiring other art. And that's kind of cool. That's really, really humbling. It's better than any award or accolade you could get for your art. I think when art begets other art, it's this beautiful chain reaction that happens. Somebody put out fan art, and then six or seven other people put out their versions of fan art, and it just sort of trickles down.I'm waiting for the covers. I'd love to hear some covers of the music that is out there! Im dreaming of the day that a drag queen recreates the iconic phone monologue I want to see that recreated on a drag stage! It's the highest compliment you can get better than any rave review and better than any award, in my opinion. That's what I set out to do: inspire other people and make people go, "Huh? I could do that." I'm a six-foot-one, over-40-year-old drag queen who started a movie and never would have done that if I didn't think, "Hmm, there are other girls and female-presenting performers doing this. I think I can follow in their footsteps. I think I can do that." They motivated me, they lifted me up to do it, too.Yes, I mean the vast majority I'll say, of course, there's bad that's out there. And, you know, I try to stay away from it. I just remember there was one critic who was like, "The plot is thin and it's too over the top." We didn't set out to give you Tennessee Williams. We drag queens are over the top by nature, and you just completely overthought it.We wanted it to be, like, in the lane of Rocky Horror Picture Show. But we didn't want to steal we wanted to pay homage. We wanted to create something completely new and original, but maybe in the same highway toward that kind of campy culture. How has the horror community responded to the film? The horror people are the ones really kind of doing the most of the artwork. If you go and look at their threads and see their Instagram, they, of course, have an affinity for drag, and they really love drag in itself. But I think the horror community is, by nature, very queer-friendly. It doesn't surprise me that the community has really been the first and biggest embrace we've had. And I love every ounce of that.I think horror stories and the characters in them are inherent risk takers, and that is the queer community. We're always risking our queerness, our life, our expression. We're always putting ourselves out there at the risk of life and death in some situations. They relate to the fear factor of existing. I'm just so humbled that they like us. They really like us.You are on the receiving end of a lot of fan art right now. I'm curious if there has ever been a time when you were on the other end were you ever sharing your creations with someone who inspired you?So, not creation. I am so old school that I write letters like physical letters or a direct email. Rosie O'Donnell is somebody I have just, like, pestered. I've never heard back, so maybe one day. But she brought Broadway to me. I was a poor kid living with a single mom in a trailer park when I was a young teenager, and her show was on at four o'clock after school, and she featured Broadway performances. And I remember writing a letter then.[Also,] Ina Garten. Ina Garten, the chef, I have written. I love her so much. I love how intellectual she is in the kitchen, and she's also in on the joke. So those two are, like, I've written actual letters to. They inspire me.I love that! Would you encourage other people who feel inspired by creatives to share how it has impacted them in that way with art, with that kind of thing? Would you like to see more of that in the world?Absolutely. I think, I really think, that's the truest form of validation we crave. I think that is very powerful, and I would encourage anybody even if you and I knew that it was a long shot for them to see the letter or get the letter it made me feel good putting that out there. People are so quick to criticize, but I'm saying, "Boy, have you made an impact on my life, and please keep going no matter what." I think that made me feel good and made me feel motivated. You have taken a lot of joy in inspiring others to create more. Has the affirmation that you have received and seeing how that has affected them inspired you to create more art, too?Yes, very much. There's already another screenplay written for another movie that we're doing, and so it's been very hard to get motivated about that, because making movies is hard, but seeing that did bring me a form of validation and motivation to, like, all right, now I've got to get on this one!Big Easy Queens is an Advocate Original and is streaming now on Hulu. Dick twerking, if you will. The dance is so legit now that not only can you find it in Urban Dictionary, but its even in Merriam Webster. The famous dictionary described dwerking as a sexually suggestive dancing characterized by rapid, repeated hip thrusts and shaking of the buttocks especially while squatting.Basically, men are thrusting their hips to the beat of the music so that their poles flop around. You know, like this... @jonahalmanzarVIP #fyp #jonahalmanzar #dwerkAnd this... What is the origin of the dance?@_eloseeohdwerking in my new pantsDwerking, a portmanteau of "dick" and "twerking," while it may have started going viral earlier this year, Urban Dictionary defined it back in 2013 as verb: a reverse twerk. WWW.OUT.COMThis is how long lesbian sex should last, according to expertsSapphic sex is great, no doubt about it. It's sensual and passionate and hot, hot, hot. It can also, famously, be a marathon of epic proportions, requiring multiple hydration and snack breaks. But hearing legends told of these epic sapphic sex seshes may be a bit intimidating. Is that really how long lesbians are getting down? Are they apocryphal? Are you doing it wrong if you aren't spending half your day in bed getting busy? And if so, is that actually more satisfying? To answer these questions and more, PRIDE reached out to the experts: Dr. Carol Queen, PhD, Good Vibes staff sexologist, co-author of The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone, and Sofie Roos, a bisexual licensed sexologist, relationship therapist, and author at relationship magazine Passionerad. If youve asked yourself these questions in the past, Roos says youre not alone. Its relatively common mainly since its more [undefined] compared to straight sex, where the man ejaculating often is a stop mark for the session, she tells PRIDE.That being said, Queen emphasized that very little about sex and sexuality is cut and dried. There aren't rules for any type of sex, aside from basing it in a consensual atmosphere, she tells PRIDE. So while these insights might be helpful, if they dont comport with your experiences or desires, thats OK too, they explain. So does sapphic sex actually take longer than other kinds of sex? When scrolling through the lesbian sections of Reddit, it's not uncommon to see posts asking about why sapphic sex seems to last forever, with some even unsure how to know a session has ended. While that may qualify as anecdotal evidence that sapphic sex tends to have a longer duration, its also borne out by research as well. Studies have shown that lesbians and sapphics have less frequent, but longer sexual encounters lesbians and sapphics also report greater sexual satisfaction when it comes to bedroom activities, so theres that. The question becomes: Why? Sapphic sex is slower and takes longer, says Roos. This is because [AFAB sapphics commonly] take a longer time to get turned on, but also can go on for longer since their orgasm doesn't reset the horniness the same way as it does in [AMAB folks].The fact that theres no obvious ending also makes it more floating, which often leads to the sapphic sex feeling longer, even though that might not be the case, she adds. What about for trans lesbians and sapphics? The lesbian and sapphic identity is beautiful and wonderfully diverse. It encompasses cisgender, nonbinary, and trans folks, and as such, Dr. Queen points out that those different lived experiences can also impact how, and for how long, we get busy. There is no bigger sex mistake aside from consent breach than I see this person's gender and therefore I know exactly what they like sexually," they say.So, while putting a time stamp on how long sex should last isnt really possible, you can ask yourself how long you want to be having sexand if what you are currently experiencing in your sex life aligns with those needs. What if it feels like your sex seshes are too long? While more in the bedroom definitely can be more, sometimes more can be a little too much. In which case, Dr. Queen says, Communicate! adding that hopefully that is already happening. if [you[haven't established a safeword or signal up front, it's best to say something about needing to switch it up, position, or activity-wise, or say that [youre] are getting fatigued and having a hard time responding the way they want.Roos agrees its important to communicate in a way that feels respectful and affirming that you are satisfied. You can say something like, Honey, Im starting to feel quite exhausted from all this amazing pleasure. Can we take a break and get back to it later? suggests Roos. Telling your partner that youve had enough for now isnt about rejecting them, but about showing that you feel perfectly satisfied and would like to get back to the pleasure later on!What if they arent long enough?Perhaps you wish that your sex sessions actually lasted longer, in which case, again, Dr. Queen says to be open about that desire. If there needs to be more stimulation to get you there, say so. If you would enjoy a more intimate connection, like making out or skin-to-skin time, say so. If the thing you are doing is not what makes you come, suggest you try the thing you do like! they suggest. In other words, communicate this need.OK, so how long should lesbian sex last?Granted, all folks are different and have different desires, anatomy, and paces at which their needs are met. And it can all vary day to day, but is there, on average, a kind of Goldilocks amount of time that sapphic sex should take that maximizes pleasure and satisfaction? Both experts agree there isnt a magic number, but Roos offers a window of time. Sapphic sex lasting for between 25 to 60 minutes is a sweet spot for many, she says. In this amount of time, most have a chance to get relaxed and turned on, to feel emotionally connected to their partner, and have a great chance to build up an orgasm. It also leaves room for some sexual aftercare! However, with that said, she continues, Dont stare blindly at the time youre having sex, but instead be in the moment and let the pleasure be what matters, and that the both of you become satisfied and happy - it doesnt matter if it took five or 50 minutes, because if everyone is happy, then what was the ideal time for the sex that time!We love a story with a happy ending.Experts cited: Dr. Carol Queen, PhD, Good Vibes staff sexologist, curator of the Antique Vibrator Museum, and co-author of The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for EveryoneSofie Roos, a bisexual licensed sexologist, relationship therapist and author at relationship magazine Passionerad0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMWhy hair transplants are becoming a game-changer for trans folks, according to medical expertsHair transplants used to be an embarrassing secret no one talked about, but in recent years, celebrities like Joel McHale and John Cena have opened up about the surgical procedures theyve gotten to combat hair loss. But its not just straight, cis male celebs who worry about hair loss. Trans singer Sasha Allen who you may know as Adore Delanos boyfriend got candid in a recent TikTok video about his fears prior to going on testosterone, and hair loss was on the list. Trans women who began going bald before transitioning, trans men who lose hair after starting T, trans people wanting a more masculine or feminine hair line, and gay men worried about hair loss affecting their attractiveness are all candidates for hair transplant surgery. In fact, according to a 2022 survey by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons, nearly 37% of surgeons reported an increase in the number of transgender hair transplant patients in their practices. So to get the tea on the procedure, whether hair transplants are gender-affirming care, and how to find a good surgeon, we talked to medical experts with years of experience treating hair loss. Is hair transplant surgery a form of gender affirming care? From hormone therapy to bottom surgery to facial feminization or masculinization surgery, there are many options for transforming you outward appearance to match how you feel internally, but few people talk about how hair transplant surgery can play a role. Hair transplants absolutely can fall under gender-affirming care. In fact, for trans patients, this is one of the few procedures that affects both presentation and perception at first glance, Kiara DeWitt, who is the founder and CEO of the progressive, gender-affirming med spa Injectco, tells PRIDE. A receding hairline or sparse growth can undermine the alignment between how someone sees themselves and how they are seen. Hair framing plays a huge role in gender expression, so whether its a feminizing soft hairline or a masculine widows peak, reshaping that frame can make everyday life more livable.Who is a good candidate for hair transplants? The best candidate for hair loss surgery is someone between the ages of 25 and 45 who has realistic expectations of what can and can't be achieved and has caught hair loss early enough to not be too far gone where options are more limited and much more expensive, hair transplant surgeon Dr Mohammed Ditta explains. Hair transplants, which take hair from the back of the head and "transplant" it to balding areas, usually work best on people who have enough healthy hair left, and who are willing to go on hair loss medication either oral or topical to prevent future hair loss. A good candidate is someone with sufficient healthy donor hair typically from the back or sides of the scalp who is experiencing male-pattern or female-pattern baldness and has realistic expectations for the outcome, says Dr. Abraham Armani, an award-winning, board-certified hair restoration surgeon. These criteria apply equally to gay, straight, cisgender, and transgender individuals. Why would trans men and women benefit from hair transplant surgery? Some trans women who lost hair before transitioning worry about not having a feminine enough hairline, while female-to-male trans folks may be concerned about how testosterone will accelerate hair loss, and plenty of gay men would prefer to have a full head of hair. Testosterone therapy in trans men can stimulate facial and body hair growth but may also accelerate male-pattern baldness. Hair transplantation can restore a receding hairline, fill thinning areas, or create a fuller beard, Dr. Armani says. These goals are common for some trans men as well as many cisgender men experiencing hair loss.DeWitt agrees, and says that gay men and trans women also benefit from hair loss surgery, Gay men may pursue the surgery to refine density, correct recession, or enhance styling flexibility. For trans women, restoring hair lost pre-transition can soften the hairline and complement other feminizing treatments. The technique may vary based on goals, e.g., rounded frontal hairlines for trans women versus more angular lines for trans men or cis men.Can testosterone treatments for trans men lead to hair loss?Much like Sasha Allen, many trans men worry that they may suffer from hair loss if male pattern baldness that runs in their family. Genetics plays a big factor, and if the hair loss gene is present, then testosterone therapy can speed it up as it's based on the follicle's sensitivity to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) as well as the quantity in their system, Dr. Ditta explains.DeWitt says that since testosterone can contribute to male-pattern hair loss in those genetically predisposed, its important to start talking to trans patients early about their options. This process can occur within a few years of starting hormone therapy or develop gradually over a decade. I think it is important to address this possibility early so patients understand their options for preservation and restoration, she cautions. Can hair transplants have a positive impact on self esteem?Hair transplants can not only help people achieve an outward appearance that matches their gender identity, but in an image-obsessed society like the U.S., this type of procedure can boost confidence and reduce feelings of self-consciousness.Physical features often influence self-perception, and hair plays a visible role in that equation, DeWitt says. Seeing a fuller hairline in the mirror can change the way someone engages socially, professionally, or romantically. It can shift attention away from what feels like a flaw and allow personality to take center stage. Self-esteem gains are rarely about the hair itself but about what it represents to the individual.Do people sometimes require revisions or additional surgery if they experience further hair loss after the initial procedure?Unfortunately hair loss surgery doesnt stop future hair loss, which is why surgery is usually combined with hair loss medication like Finasteride. In fact, earlier this year, Community star Joel McHale admitted to having four hair transplant surgeries. It's important that patients understand that hair transplants won't stop future hair loss from happening, Dr. Dittas says. They work via a redistribution of hair from the back and sides of the head (this area is known as the donor area as it's resistant to the hormone DHT that causes hair loss) to the areas of baldness.Dr. Armani warns of the same issue, Hair loss can be progressive, meaning untreated areas may thin over time. Strategic, long-term planning helps ensure the hairline remains balanced and natural as changes occur. Why are people traveling to Turkey for hair transplants? Most travel to Turkey for lower costs, not necessarily higher quality, Dr. Armani explains. While some clinics there are reputable, many operate in high-volume settings that can compromise safety and artistry. Wherever the procedure is performed, thorough research is essential verify credentials, review before-and-after photos, and confirm the surgeon personally performs the critical steps.Dr. Ditta says the devil is in the detail because while there are many good surgeons in Turkey, many of the clinics are high volume where technicians, not surgeons, do most of the work, and the doctors act like a conductor of the orchestra, meaning that he is supervising these procedures and letting the technicians do all the work which is how the procedures are so cheap. What are some of the risks of the procedure?Hair transplant surgery is relatively safe and the risks are low, but patients may experience excessive bleeding, anesthesia complications, folliculitis, infection, swelling, itching, scarring, unnatural hair growth, or poor graft survival. Possible risks include swelling, temporary numbness, infection, or scarring. Rarely, patients may experience suboptimal hair growth or temporary shedding of existing hair, Dr. Armani warns. These risks apply to all patients and are minimized by choosing a board-certified, experienced hair restoration surgeon. How do you find a good surgeon and how much should you expect to pay?If you are thinking about a hair transplant, you need to look for a board-certified hair restoration surgeon with proven experience, documented results, and strong patient reviews, Dr. Armans says. DeWitt says that you should also check out a potential surgeon's before-and-after photos, verify their board certifications, and confirm that the surgeon performs the majority of the procedure themselves. Consultations should include an honest discussion of density expectations, graft counts, and recovery timelines, she explains. As for how much a good surgeon will charge, that depends on the extent of the surgery you want. In the U.S., costs typically range from $8,000 to $20,000, depending on the number of grafts, surgical method, and case complexity. These same standards apply to anyone seeking a natural, lasting result, Dr. Armani says.Sources cited:Dr. Abraham Armani, an award-winning, board-certified hair restoration surgeon.Dr Mohammed Ditta, a hair transplant surgeon.Kiara DeWitt, is an accredited master nurse injector with medical aesthetic certification and the founder and CEO of Injectco, one of Texas top medical aesthetic clinics.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMMan outraged by Trump takeover hurls Subway sandwich at federal officer in LGBTQ-friendly D.C. neighborhoodA confrontation on Washington, D.C.s U Street, a corridor celebrated for Black culture and LGBTQ-friendly nightlife, turned into a viral moment of resistance when a man in a pink button-down shirt and khaki shorts hurled a wrapped Subway sandwich at a federal law enforcement officer deployed under President Donald Trumps authoritarian takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident happened Sunday evening and began when the man, who appeared to have just purchased a footlong sandwich, walked out and past a group of armed, tactical vestwearing federal Border Patrol and FBI officers who were standing at a street corner. Video shows him becoming increasingly upset as he took in the scene. At one point, he started walking away, but then returned and was seen asking bystanders what vehicles the officers had arrived in.After walking toward several unmarked white government cars, another video clip shows him crossing back over the street and approaching the officers, at whom he yelled fascists and shame! Finally, he wound up and hurled the sandwich directly at one officer, striking him in the chest, before immediately sprinting across the street to escape, with a group of officers chasing him down the block. (@) A photographer captured images of federal agents surrounding him after the pursuit. The Advocate contacted the office of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro for comment, but did not immediately hear back. As of Wednesday, officials had not identified the man or announced charges, but the image, a wrapped sub arcing toward a flak vest under the rainbow-lit streets, has already become a shorthand for local defiance in a city where federal authority is both a constitutional fact and, critics say, an increasingly dangerous political weapon. FBI and Border Patrol officers arrest a man along the U Street corridor during a federal law enforcement deployment to the nation's capital on August 10, 2025 in Washington, DC.Andrew Leyden/Getty ImagesThe next morning, Trump escalated the federal presence further. Flanked by Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, he invoked Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to seize control of the citys police force for 30 days and deploy National Guard troops on D.C. streets. It was a move condemned by Democratic leaders, civil rights advocates, and human rights groups as authoritarian.Trump defended the action as a response to violent crime, falsely calling D.C. one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World, and boasted that officers confronting protesters were allowed to do whatever the hell they want. Data from the Justice Department and Metropolitan Police Department shows violent crime dropped 35 percent in 2024 and another 26 percent so far in 2025, the lowest rate in three decades.Mayor Muriel Bowser has navigated a delicate political and legal position. While she described Trumps maneuvers as an authoritarian push in a meeting with community leaders, she has also signaled cooperation to manage the surge of federal personnel, NBC News reports. What Im focused on is the federal surge and how to make the most of the additional officer support that we have, Bowser told reporters after meeting with Bondi on Tuesday. For marginalized people, the stakes are exceptionally high in a city where nearly 15 percent of adults identify as LGBTQ+. U.S. Census estimates show that Black or African American and white adults each make up about 45 percent of the population in D.C., and Hispanic or Latinx adults account for roughly 12 percent.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

There are videos all over TikTok of men showing off their dance moves and what theyre hiding in their pants. TikToker @mojothewzzrd got close to 500,000 views on his dwerking video, but while his was tame, many guys are making slightly less safe-for-work versions often to the song Luxurious X Be Your Girl by Smashup. From gay men to cowboys to shirtless hotties, everyone is getting in on the trend. Even the Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, got in on the action. What do the gays think?@stretchedtothemaxxand thats on deriodHard to say, but there are plenty of men in the comment sections in these videos thirsting after the men dancing. And gay TikToker @stretchedtothemaxx also took on the trend, telling the world that "gay dudes twerk best." Plus, this is a dance that can easily be combined with gray sweatpants, and we know how gay men feel about those! But not everyone is a fan, gay podcasters Greg Trimmer and Tim Zientek from Miss Thing with Greg & Tim discussed the trend in an episode last month, and said, Its not hitting the way you want it to hit and called dwerking anti sex. To each their own!0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMJussie Smollett labels Chicago PD and former mayor 'villians' ahead of Netflix docJussie Smollett isstillstanding by his story. The embattled actor, who claimed he was the victim of a hate crime in 2019, is stepping back into the spotlight with a new album and a new documentary, The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, which will debut on Netflix August 22.In 2019, Smollett was a rising star on the hit show Empire. Then, on January 29, he reported to Chicago police that he had been attacked by two white men wearing MAGA hats who shouted racist and homophobic language, put a noose around his neck, and poured bleach on him.Over the next few months, Chicago police arrested two men, who they say were hired by Smollett to fake the attack. Smollett stood by his story; however, he was found guilty of five counts of felony disorderly conduct for filing false police reports. In 2024, the convictions were overturned due to a violation of due process. In a new interview with Variety, Smollett once again insists on the accuracy of his account, labeling the Chicago Police Department and the city's former mayor, Rahm Emanuel, as "villains" in his story."The villains are the two people who assaulted me, Chicago Police Department and, if I may be so brave, the mayor," Smollett said, referring to Emanuel, who was mayor of the city from 2011 to 2019.Smollett went on to suggest that the former mayor and the Chicago PD conspired to dismiss his claims of being attacked and instead charge him, due to an investigation into the fatal police shooting of Black teenager Laquan McDonald."Could it be that they had just found out about the missing minutes and the missing tape from the murder of Laquan McDonald? Could it be that the mayor helped hide that?" he asked. "We're living in a world where the higher-ups, their main mission, in order to do all of the underhanded things that theyre doing, is to distract us with the shiny object." In the interview, Smollett also maintains that the two Nigerian-American brothers who cooperated with police, saying they were enlisted by the actor to carry out the attack, were not the men who assaulted him."All I can say is, God bless you, and I hope it was worth it," he said, directing his comments to the brothers. "Every single other person's story has changed multiple times. Mine has never. I have nothing to gain from this."Smollett later expressed hope that the upcoming documentary will shine some light on the case and prove his innocence. But when asked why evidence clearing his name hasn't come out in the six years since the alleged attack, Smollett said, "I don't really know.""I'm not an investigative reporter or a detective. I can't sit and tell you exactly, beat by beat, what happened. I can only tell you what did not happen. And what did not happen is the story thats been out there for almost seven years, that somehow I would have even a reason to do something as egregious as this," he said.In the interview, Smollett also compared himself to another Black entertainer accused of wrongdoing: Michael Jackson."I saw firsthand how narratives are built. I saw firsthand the way that someone can take the exact opposite of who you are and literally sell it," he said. "And people will be like, 'I believe it!' God rest his soul, but homeboy Michael Jackson tried to warn us."In addition to participating in the new documentary, Smollett is working on his second album, Break Out, and recently released the independent drama The Lost Holiday on Tubi.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.OUT.COMRuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: 30 best lip syncs of all time, rankedA legacy of legendary lip syncs!Between glow-ups, legacies, and Ru-demptions, the returning queens of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars are known for leveling-up and re-introducing themselves to the fandom. For some of them, it's been a decade since they last competed on TV. For others, it can just be a matter of months for them to come back. The All Stars spinoff is all about RuPaul's Drag Race queens wanting to prove themselves to the overall fans, the panel of judges, and their fellow drag artists resulting in some of the best lip syncs, runway looks, Snatch Game impersonations, comedy challenges, Talent Show numbers, and overall track records in Drag Race herstory. And while there have been a few disappointing lip syncs on All Stars over the years, the list of great lip sync performances in series could go on forever. The format of paired-up queens competing as duos on All Stars 1 wasn't exactly well received. Notable changes on All Stars 2 introduced the dynamics of weekly top 2 queens in charge of sending other contestants home after lip syncing for their legacy. Subsequent seasons followed a Ru-mocracy format that brought in Lip Sync Assassins for each episode (All Stars 5, All Stars 6, and All Stars 8), or a points-based, non-elimination structure for the all-winners season (All Stars 7) and the Chari-Tea season (All Stars 9).For the first time in Drag Race herstory, a Tournament of All Stars dividing 18 queens into three brackets was adopted on All Stars 10 a refreshing format that got a great response from fans, queens, and critics alike. As the Drag Race franchise celebrates 10 seasons of queens gagging audiences with stunts, props, reveals, comedic chops, dance moves, and synchronicity, the legacy of legendary lip syncs included on this list will give us life for years to come.Scroll through to see our ranking including some of the best, most memorable, and most iconic lip syncs of all time on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars with all 10 seasons of the show available for streaming on Paramount+.30. Jessica Wild vs. Ra'Jah O'Hara 'Coconuts' by Kim Petras (All Stars 8)Jessica Wild's 13-year journey from competing on Drag Race season 2 to returning for All Stars 8 completely pays off in this hilarious and absolutely silly lip sync to "Coconuts" by Kim Petras. Dressed in full La Veneno drag, this is clearly Jessica's lip sync to win as soon as she reveals the bouncing breastplate boobs and gives us her full sex symbol fantasy but it's all so absurd, and campy, that no one can contain themselves from laughing.29. Jujubee vs. Raven 'Dancing on My Own' by Robyn (All Stars 1)This isn't necessarily a great lip sync for viewers who are unfamiliar with the lore, but it is the standout lip sync to come out of All Stars 1 the franchise's first (not so great) attempt at crafting a season with fan-favorite queens returning to compete for a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame. For longtime Drag Race fans who had seen Raven and Jujubee becoming friends in season 2 and pairing up as Rujubee on All Stars had their hearts broken when the two queens had to lip sync against each other to the emotional gay club banger "Dancing on My Own" by Robyn. They were barely able to move, and even the judges were crying watching them.28. Latrice Royale vs. Mo Heart 'Sissy That Walk' by RuPaul (All Stars 4)All Stars 4 had a LaLaPaRuza smackdown in which four remaining competitors went up against four eliminated queens from the season. The "Sissy That Walk" lip sync between Latrice Royale and Mo Heart (ne Monique Heart) was the only one of the bunch that resulted in an eliminated queen in this case, Latrice returning to the competition. After scaring everyone with the idea that Mo Heart had just been eliminated despite doing so well on the show, Ru declared that she was also going to stay, and that was definitely the right decision. Facts are facts, America!27. Kylie Sonique Love vs. Manila Luzon 'Dirrrty' by Christina Aguilera (All Stars 6)While doing all kinds of flips and dips that defied gravity and tested the strength of boob tape to extreme limits, Kylie Sonique Love didn't just lip sync for her legacy She dominated the main stage, turned the "Dirrrty" dial to its maximum degree, and put another X in Xtina while looking like the song's vocals were coming from her own lungs.Manila Luzon, one of the best lip syncers of all time in the Drag Race canon, did her absolute best to keep up. But when Kylie Sonique Love does Christina Aguilera, it's probably for the best if we just enjoy the full fantasy that she's willing to give.26. Jinkx Monsoon vs. Trinity The Tuck 'Rumour Has It' by Adele (All Stars 7)All Stars 7, the all-winners season, delivered some of the most Legendary Legend runway looks, overall performances, and lip syncs for your legacy. This non-elimination season based on earning the most Legendary Legend Stars had a stacked cast of iconic champions who formed a sisterhood but also competed as fiercely as possible to get to the end and be crowned Queen of All Queens. In this rare Adele lip sync to "Rumour Has It," eventual two-time Drag Race winner and Broadway darling Jinkx Monsoon serves a lived-in performance while Trinity The Tuck makes us laugh from start to finish.25. Shea Coule vs. Alyssa Edwards 'Neutron Dance' byThe Pointer Sisters (All Stars 5)"I didn't come to play, I came to slay!" went up against "trust the duchess!" in this epic lip sync to The Pointer Sisters' "Neutron Dance" during All Stars 5. That's right, a lip sync between Alyssa Edwards and Shea Coule! My gawd. This battle between Drag Race titans was absolutely incredible to watch, and gave Shea even more momentum to win that season and enter the Drag Race Hall of Fame.24. Alaska vs. Katya 'Cherry Bomb' by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts (All Stars 2)After so many All Stars seasons, one might be inclined to dismiss some early lip syncs during the very first season that featured a top 2 of the week (and gave the winner the chance to eliminate one of the queens in the bottom). But the lip sync for your legacy to Joan Jett and The Blackhearts' "Cherry Bomb" between Alaska and Katya really is, has been, and will continue to be an exciting, hilarious, and sickening performance.23. Shea Coule vs. Mont X Change 'Old MacDonald Had a Farm' by Ella Fitzgerald (All Stars 7)Some lip sync choices in the all-winners season were truly shocking. Some of those for the wrong reasons, but a lot of them for the right reasons.Having Mont X Change and Shea Coule lip syncing to Ella Fitzgerald's "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" on the very first episode of All Stars 7 was a very inspired choice to kick off this legendary legend season of Drag Race champions.22. Manila Luzon vs. Trinity The Tuck 'How Will I Know' by Whitney Houston (All Stars 4)Drag Race superfans are known to joke about lip syncs that a queen wins almost immediately within seconds of the song having started and this is definitely one of them. Trinity The Tuck didn't do poorly, but Manila Luzon wiped the floor in this performance and lip synced to "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston so beautifully and earnestly that we could not take our eyes off her.21. Ra'Jah O'Hara vs. Brooke Lynn Hytes 'Miss You Much' by Janet Jackson (All Stars 6)Brooke Lynn Hytes' appearance as a Lip Sync Assassin on All Stars 6 was very interesting. At this point, Ra'Jah O'Hara was already squashing her "villain" label and proving that she was actually an incredibly wonderful queen. Many fans were even actively rooting for her to win this season. In came Brooke, Ra'Jah's season 11 costar, but this time already a few years deep into hosting Canada's Drag Race as the series' host and main judge. To make matters even more interesting, Ra'Jah did not end up winning All Stars 6 which meant that she subsequently competed on Canada vs the World season 1, was judged by Brooke, and was crown on that show. What a wild right it's been for these two.20. Mont X Change vs. Jinkx Monsoon 'The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia' monologue from 'Designing Women'(All Stars 7)The first-ever spoken word lip sync in Drag Race herstory took place in the all-winners season And, wow, was it iconic. The top 2 queens of the week, Mont X Change and Jinkx Monsoon, lip synced to the monologue known as "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" from Designing Women. It was thrilling to see them do so well, and many viewers have wanted more spoken-word lip syncs on the show since then.19. Ginger Minj vs. Mayhem Miller 'Phone' by Lizzo (All Stars 6)For both Ginger Minj and Mayhem Miller, the lip sync to Lizzo's "Phone" is considered their best lip sync in Drag Race herstory. This was truly hilarious, and spontaneous and had All Stars 6 fans and the judges laughing from start to finish.18. Alyssa Edwards vs. Detox 'Tell It to My Heart' by Taylor Dayne (All Stars 2)Detox as the gayest Tin Man to ever exist lip syncing against Alyssa Edwards to "Tell It to My Heart" by Taylor Dayne on All Stars 2 Far too iconic, we fear. We couldn't take our eyes away from either of them, and this is a great example of what the golden standard for a good lip sync should be.The song can often really help, too, and it doesn't really get much better than "Tell It to My Heart," does it?17. Kylie Sonique Love, Ra'Jah O'Hara, Ginger Minj, vs. Eureka 'Stupid Love' by Lady Gaga (All Stars 6)The insane lip sync for the crown between all top 4 winners on All Stars 6 (but filmed separately) gave us plenty of great faces and moments from Ra'Jah O'Hara, Kylie Sonique Love, Ginger Minj, and Eureka. But let's not beat around the bush, eh? Drag Race fans around the world were screaming, gagging, and losing their minds when Kylie slipped and almost fell during her performance But quickly recovered and served up some glamour in a way that Mama Ru had always encouraged the queens to do. What a fantastic ending for this season.16. Alaska vs. Katya 'Le Freak' by Chic (All Stars 2)If it's a lip sync between Alaska and Katya, we're interested. To the tune of "Le Freak" by Chic, the two fan-favorites faced off yet again in this All Stars 2 lip sync both looking totally insane but still giving us the full fantasy of what their characters were supposed to be. Mind-blowing, creative, and exciting.15. Jasmine Kennedie vs. Jimbo 'Hallucinate' by Dua Lipa (All Stars 8)Who doesn't love a Ru-demption story?!While it's true that several queens came back onto All Stars as polished and fully realized queens (particularly in comparison to their drag aesthetics and sensibilities during their original seasons), it felt really quick/early for Jasmine Kennedie to be brought back as a Lip Sync Assassin for All Stars 8. Nonetheless, as soon as the music started playing and we realized this was "Hallucinate" by Dua Lipa, we had a feeling this was going to be a huge chop for anyone lip syncing against Jasmine And that's precisely what happened.14. Silky Nutmeg Ganache 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua (All Stars 6)Queens who return for All Stars almost desperately seeking some kind of Ru-demption typically fail. Silky Nutmeg Ganache struggled to find that balance while competing on All Stars 6, which led to her very early elimination. On the other hand, that elimination gave us one of the most iconic episodes of Drag Race of all time a challenge in which all eliminated queens had a chance to lip sync their way back onto the show.Silky had a wild winning streak during this episode and only lost to Eureka in the very last round of this lalaparuza twist. In any case, she showcased so many of her talents, that it was worth it. The standout performance, of course, was Silky actually not lip syncing against anyone, but performing to "Barbie Girl" by Aqua as both a male and female persona.13. Aja vs. Irene The Alien 'Think U the Sh*t (Fart)' by Ice Spice (All Stars 10)If you "Think U the Sh*t," but are "not even a fart" Guess what, Mimi? Aja will be ready to obliterate you in a lip sync. Even more so if it's the grand premiere of a new season! This rather questionable song by Ice Spice was not in our bingo card for the lip sync in the very first episode of All Stars 10, but Irene The Alien held her own, and Aja proved (yet again) why she's such an incredible lip sync artist.12. Yvie Oddly vs. India Ferrah 'Livin' La Vida Loca' by Ricky Martin (All Stars 5)Sure, all Drag Race fans remember Yvie Oddly for her body contortions, unexpected lip sync moves, and odd (on brand!) reveals. But not much is said about Yvie's lip sync skills outside of that physicality. All Stars 5 episode 1 had the task of introducing the Lip Sync Assassin twist of the series that was used for three seasons. With India Ferrah winning the Variety Show and becoming the Top All Star of the week, she faced the first-ever Lip Sync Assassin guest of the entire All Stars franchise: none other than Yvie Oddly!Did we think we'd ever see Yvie lip syncing to Ricky Martin? Not really. Was it absolutely amazing and proved how versatile of a performer she actually is? Yes, it did.11. BenDeLaCreme vs. Aja 'Anaconda' by Nicki Minaj (All Stars 3)@oolmos11Anaconda - Aja vs DeLa #rupaulsdragrace #dragrace #rupaul #dragqueen #lipsync #finale #nickiminaj #aja #bendelacreme #drag #gaycultureTheir anaconda do?! Picture it: Episode 1 of All Stars 3. BenDeLaCreme had been focusing on growing her artistry and audience in Seattle, which initially made her the butt of the joke that other queens "didn't know where she had been" since season 6. Meanwhile, Aja was extremely fresh from having just competed in season 9, and entered All Stars 3 with a vengeance to stand out and actually show case her talents. The result is an incredible lip sync to Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" in which DeLa kills it with her humor and Aja delivers pure fierceness. While several top-notch lip syncs are mostly based on one specific queen's fabulous performance, this one has two very different performances that are both phenomenal. What a knockout premiere!10. Bosco vs. Irene The Alien 'Murder on the Dancefloor' by Sophie Ellis-Bextor (All Stars 10)We thank the drag gods every single day for this masterpiece of a lip sync from both Bosco and Irene The Alien on All Stars 10. And it was set to "Murder on the Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, too, which just made the whole thing even gayer and more exciting. To be clear: There is no doubt that Bosco was the rightful winner of this lip sync. Irene did a great job by winning all three challenges in bracket 1 of the Tournament of All Stars, and going on to prove that she was much more than a first-out from season 15. On the tother hand, Bosco understood this assignment in a way that had fans, judges, and other queens gagging for their lives.9. Aja vs. Kahanna Montrese 'Freakum Dress' by Beyonc (All Stars 8)Aja the myth, the icon, and the legend. This was a very special performance from Aja (featured as a Lip Sync Assassin in the very first episode of All Stars 8), that followed a period of time when Aja had lost her passion for the art form of drag and was focusing on her gender journey as a trans woman. This moment not only solidified that Aja was so back, but it was also an absolutely bonkers lip sync that had fans losing their minds.Kahanna Montrese certainly held her own in this lip sync, though it felt impossible to compete with Aja's moves and stage presence during this lip sync to "Freakum Dress" by Beyonc.8. Kennedy Davenport vs. BenDeLaCreme 'Green Light' by Lorde (All Stars 3) (@) The very first lip sync of All Stars 3 Aja vs. BenDeLaCreme to "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj is often remembered as a reset for BenDeLaCreme's journey in the series. Well, we're here to report that there's another very important lip sync that defied expectations but doesn't get the love it deserves. To quote Alright Mary cohost Johnny Also, "Kennedy goddamn Davenport" delivered one of the most powerful park-and-bark performances in Drag Race herstory in this lip sync to Lorde's "Green Light" against BenDeLaCreme.7. Naomi Smalls vs. Gia Gunn 'Adrenaline' by RuPaul (All Stars 4)It's a pretty popular opinion to praise the "Adrenaline" (RuPaul) lip sync from Naomi Smalls and Gia Gunn on All Stars 4, but that's because there is nothing to revise or reconsider about it. Naomi proved, in this very moment, that she was an absolute contender to win a season of Drag Race if only the judges didn't dismiss her as being a fashion queen who only cares about clothes which, to be clear, was Naomi's drag perspective, even going back to season 8.As she pointed at the judges, made them laugh with face journeys, and defied gravity with her infamous backbend, Naomi delivered a knockout performance that forced the judges and the fans to look at her differently from that point forward.6. Roxxxy Andrews vs. Plastique Tiara 'No One Gets the Prize' by Diana Ross (All Stars 9)It's insane that Roxxxy Andrews could ever outperform her own self after the spectacular lip sync performances she had already delivered on Drag Race season 5 and All Stars 2 not to mention other live performances shared on social media. But, somehow, Roxxxy did the damn thing. When drag artists and enthusiasts talk about the power of emoting over doing dips, using random props, or trying to pull off reveals that have nothing to do with a performance, Roxxxy lip synced to "No One Gets the Prize" by Diana Ross as if that voice was literally coming out of her own mouth And All Stars 9 viewers just lost their minds with this one.5. Bosco vs. Daya Betty 'Show Me How You Burlesque' by Christina Aguilera (All Stars 10)The grand finale of All Stars 10 was an Olympic-level tournament of lip syncs between the divas and the dolls who made it to the top 8 of the competition and had a chance to enter the Drag Race Hall of Fame. While fans can argue back and forth about which queen won each lip sync Facts are facts, America: Bosco vs. Daya Betty was the best lip sync of this grand finale, and this season, and actually entered the GOAT pantheon of All Stars lip syncs.Daya Betty did a fantastic job and actually pulled off what many would deem impossible: going up against Bosco for a lip sync of "Show Me How You Burlesque" by Christina Aguilera (yes, from the Burlesque film!). Between Bosco's headpiece becoming props, the reveal to a stunning and fully-realized trans woman celebrating her most authentic self, and a feathery show-and-tell move/reveal that had Drag Race fans losing their minds.4. Shea Coule vs. Mont X Change 'Supernova' by Kylie Minogue (All Stars 7)Mama Ru loves disco music and Kylie Minogue, so it's definitely not surprising that the pop star's DISCO album has been featured quite a bit across Drag Race franchises. Overall, this lip sync to "Supernova" between Mont X Change and Shea Coule in the all-winners season (All Stars 7) absolutely reigns supreme over them all proving just how talented and sickening these two drag legends really are.3. Laganja Estranja vs. Trinity K. Bonet 'Physical' by Dua Lipa (All Stars 6)The meaning of "Is she gonna jump from there?" was updated by Laganja Estranja as an official "Lip Sync Assassin" featured on All Stars 6 going up against a queen who is very much so a lip sync assassin on her own merits, Trinity K. Bonet. The gags and the stunts start happening before the music is even playing And the lip sync song in question, by the way, is Dua Lipa's "Physical." If you've ever experienced watching something so gay that it makes you feel giddy and full of joy, this is one of those moments.Laganja and Trinity are both queens from season 6 of Drag Race, which makes this All Stars 6 reunion between them even sweeter. In the years between those two seasons, Laganja came out as a trans woman. Since this lip sync happened, Trinity also came out as a trans woman. In the end, one queen is declared the winner of the lip sync, but it's impossible to walk away from it feeling like anyone lost anything. There's a reason this is one of the most-watched lip syncs of all time in the official YouTube channel for RuPaul's Drag Race: It's a modern-day classic.2. Naomi Smalls vs. Mont X Change 'Come Rain or Come Shine' by Judy Garland (All Stars 4)Yes, the "Adrenaline" lip sync is a certified masterpiece from Naomi Smalls. And she outdoes herself two episodes later in a lip sync for her legacy against Mont X Change to Judy Garland's "Come Rain or Come Shine" one of the most dazzling, dizzying, and downright dope performances in Drag Race herstory. As Mont takes a more conservative approach that pays respect to Judy Garland's legacy, Naomi goes all-in on delivering D.R.A.G. through bold aesthetics, angular poses, maniacal faces, and animated movements that feel like nods to RuPaul's recurring reference of Bugs Bunny as his "first introduction to drag." Here, Naomi is clearly not impersonating a woman, a Hollywood diva, or even a human being But a shapeshifting character that we cannot look away from.1. Alyssa Edwards vs. Tatianna 'Shut Up and Drive' by Rihanna (All Stars 2)The All Stars 2 lip sync of Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive" between Alyssa Edwards and Tatianna wasn't just a moment of Ru-demption for these two eliminated queens to come back into the competition. It was also a performance that redefined the art of lip syncing on Drag Race as we knew it.While this is usually remembered as a "double shantay," it bears repeating that both Alyssa and Tatianna had already been eliminated from the competition at this point. And yet, they delivered a performance so strong and so close that they were both brought back onto All Stars 2, setting a new standard for lip sync "ties" in the entire Drag race franchise.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews
