What is 'G,' the party drug popular on the gay scene? Health experts explain
Look, sex is fun and drugs can be fun, so its understandable why so many gay men combine the two despite the dangers associated with chemsex. Most of us are chasing the high of mind-blowing sex, so it makes sense that people would give chemsex a try since drugs can make you feel euphoric, decrease your inhibitions, and increase sensations. And when they are ever present at parties, many gay men have given them a try or even struggled with addiction because of them.Drugs like mephedrone, ketamine, cocaine, speed, and crystal methamphetamine are all common chemsex options, but one of the most popular in the gay party scene is G.But what is G, why is it so popular, and what are the dangers of using it? To break it all down we spoke with Dr. Phillip Kuan, Chief of Anesthesia at cosmetic surgery center New Look New Life; Justin Todd, co-founder of AddictionResources.net, a free resource for individuals living with substance abuse, addiction, and mental health disorders; and Mell McCracken, a certified alcohol and drug counselor, and executive director at No Matter What Recovery in Los Angeles.Heres what the experts had to say. What is 'G' and what was it initially created for?G is a slang term for Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, better known as GHB. It was FDA approved as an anesthetic in the 1960s and induces amnesia, euphoria, and hallucinations, Dr. Kuan tells PRIDE. The high of GHB is similar to alcohol, in that it increases disinhibition and causes relaxation and less anxiety.According to McCracken, after being used in hospitals as anesthesia, it becomes a workout drug before becoming a popular gay party drug.It became popular in the fitness world under a false belief that it would increase HGH production. At one point, it was marketed in health and wellness stores as a supplement to build muscle. GHB eventually made its way to nightlife and party environments, where it gained a reputation for causing euphoria, profound relaxation, and disinhibition."What are its effects?G is a popular chemsex option because of the sexual liberation it offers and because it can extend sex longer than you'd be able to achieve without it. At lower doses, users report that G produces feelings of euphoria and increased confidence, Todd explains. Some also say it makes them feel more sexually uninhibited. Higher doses can lead to unconsciousness and overdose. What are its dangers? While G may be a fun addition to sex in the short term, it can have devastating consequences. Since its unregulated and there isnt a standard dose there is a risk of overdose and even death, especially if you combine it with alcohol or other party drugs. And there is a risk of addiction as well.It can cause high blood pressure, which increases strain on the heart and vascular system, Dr. Kuan. When combined with other substances like alcohol or other depressants, it can amplify the mental and respiratory changes, which may lead to greatly depressed breathing and possible hypoxia. At high doses, it can lead to confusion, seizures, coma & and death.GHB, or G, is also often called the date-rape drug because it causes memory loss even at low doses and because its mostly odorless and colorless it can be hidden in a drink.Another danger is when it's used as a party drug to have sex. G can severely impair an individual who may not realize they are being injured during sexual penetration or other acts, Todd warns. "Additionally, the impaired individual may engage in riskier activities such as unprotected sex, leading to STIs and other negative consequences. Why has it become so popular in the gay party scene?G is inexpensive and increases libido and sexual feelings so its easy to see why its become a popular choice in the gay party scene. G has seen a resurgence in recent years as it is often viewed as a safer alternative to other drugs, such as methamphetamine, that have historically been used in chemsex. It is also cheaper than other drugs. A single dose in one area can be as little as $5, Todd says.According to McCracken, not only is it cheap, but it became a popular gay club drug in 1990s and 2000s because it was easy to carry around and its cheap and the high feels euphoric, gives decreased inhibitions, increased physical touch, and often a very sexual type of high. McCracken elaborated, In those chemsex environments, you hear men say how it made them feel more confident, more bonded with other people, less anxious when it came to sex or intimacy. It acts as a social lubricant for many. What kind of harm reduction can be done to improve safety? While the experts say that avoiding the drug altogether is the best way to avoid the consequences to your physical and mental health, if you are going to use G there are some steps you can take to reduce those risks.Safe use includes making sure your measuring the amount your taking with a syringe or dropper, spacing them two to three hours apart, McCracken says. NEVER mix with alcohol or other depressants as that can lead to overdoses. Friends should watch for warning signs like sudden drowsiness or loss of consciousness and call for help immediatelyif you notice slow or stopped breathing as it can be fatal.Todd also advises following the buddy system to make things safer. Ideally, the buddy is not on the drug in the event you both overdose, Todd says. Being able to call EMS and let medical professionals know what has happened can be the difference between living and dying in an overdose. And if you are a parent worried about your kid using party drugs like G, Dr. Kuan says you should be having frank and open conversations about drug use and coping mechanisms to resist peer pressure. What should you do if you become dependent on G?McCracken explains that withdrawal from G can actually be dangerous so if you are struggling you should seek help. "Ongoing use is likely to lead to dependence, and stopping suddenly may trigger severe anxiety, paranoia, seizures, or even death. Medical detox is critical for those who are regular users, they say.Todd warns that addiction rates are higher in the LGBTQ+ community and so its important for users of gay party drugs to know that there is help out there if youre struggling with a substance abuse issue. Todds organization, AddictionResources.net, created a list of the 12 Best LGBTQ+-Friendly Rehab Centers in the U.S. that can be found here.Sources cited:Dr. Kuan, Chief of Anesthesia at cosmetic surgery center New Look New Life.Justin Todd, co-founder of AddictionResources.net, a free resource for individuals living with substance abuse, addiction, and mental health disorders.Mell McCracken, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Executive Director at No Matter What Recovery in Los Angeles.

Hello Out readers!Lesbians have had quite the summer, and I'm not just talking about the Republican party trying to overturn same-sex marriage! This summer, major queer pop stars, including JoJo Siwa, Fletcher, and most recently, Betty Who, have all made public comments that rubbed their lesbian fans the wrong way. Now, Rene Rapp has replied.During Lesbian Visibility Week in April, Celebrity Big Brother UK star JoJo Siwa came out as queer after previously identifying as a lesbian. Unfortunately, she did so by shouting, "I'm switching letters! F**k the 'L,' I'm going to the 'Q!'"Siwa later expanded, saying she felt pressured to identify as a lesbian, and that the pressure, "came a little bit from inside the community at times."Then, during Pride Month, sapphic singer Fletcher announced that she was in love with a "Boy" in a new song that sounded to many like an apology and a self-fulfilling prophecy that her lesbian fans would be upset. In August, bisexual singer Betty Who joined the fray, saying that the "alphabet mafia" has decided that it's practically "a crime to be straight." She then brought up proud lesbian pop star Rapp.Who said she was happy for Rapp and her lesbian identity, but she will "also hold space for her if, in 10 years, she goes, 'Oops, I met the love of my life and it's this man, and I didn't mean to.' That's okay. It shouldn't be illegal for you to fall in love."Who has since apologized, saying that she "poorly articulated my experience and unintentionally reinforced ideas that were harmful or dismissive, particularly toward the lesbian community."Now, in a Cosmopolitan UK digital cover story, Rapp has responded."I mean, it's just very similar to the whole, 'She hasn't found the right man.' It's incredibly similar, let's be so clear," the singer said. "I'm just like, 'What the fuck? What makes you think I'm gonna end up with a man?' Also, how about don't talk about me when it comes to a man? I'm very publicly in a very loving relationship with a woman. So I'm not really sure what about that is so blurry.""I'm always confused whenever people try to do that to other people. Just focus on yourself. Just literally focus on yourself. Don't bring my big fucking lesbian name into your mouth and into this drama," she added.Keep reading to find out all the best pop culture news and this week's Gayest Song!- Mey RudeJonathan Bailey is taking a break from acting here's what we knowRene Rapp to Betty Who: 'Don't bring my big f**ing lesbian name' into 'this drama'What is 'G,' the party drug popular on the gay scene? 'Twinless' star sends message to 'pervs' who watched leaked gay sex scene
Twinless star and filmmaker James Sweeney has a message for all the people who watched leaks of his new film's sex scenes.Twinless, written and directed by Sweeney (Straight Up), also stars Sweeney alongside Dylan O'Brien as two young men who meet in a twin bereavement group. They form an unconventional bond and soon grow closer and closer, all while secrets, lies, and desire threaten to destroy it all. When the film debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, a gay sex scene between Sweeney and costar Dylan O'Brien was recorded and leaked to the public. Sundance then pulled the film from its streaming site due to piracy. Now that the film is coming out in theaters, Sweeney has spoken up about the leaks and all the people who watched them."You want the film to have traction and to register in the zeitgeist," he tells Deadline. "Obviously, thats not the way I want to be introduced as somebody who is not going to be familiar to most people.""Over the festival circuit, I would run into some people who'd be like, 'Oh my God, Twinless, I saw your trailer.' I'm like, The trailer is not done. I know what you saw, that wasnt the trailer,'" he continues. "So, you know, I'm trying to keep a good sense of humor about it. All I can say is those pervs better show up and pay money to see it in theaters."Sweeney first addressed the leaks when he accepted the Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Films for his film at the festival."I woke up this morning with an email thread about people posting spoilers with photos. If anyones seen the film, you know what Im talking about. So I guess the audience really does like the film," he said.Twinless got rave reviews out of Sundance and currently sits at 98 percent Fresh from 83 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Slothrust's Leah Wellbaum talks top surgery & kinky new single 'Spill the Juice'
"They say anything is possible/So let me serve the unpredictable."So begins the sensual new single from genre-bending rock band Slothrust. Their new song and video for "Spill The Juice" features Leah Wellbaum, Will Gorin, and Anna Barber playing with elements of rock, R&B, jazz, and more all while Wellbaum seductively teases what shell do to you each day of the week."The three of us laughed so hard writing 'Spill the Juice' in Willy's West Hollywood studio," Wellbaum, Slothrust's lead vocalist who uses she/they pronouns, tells Out. "It's kind of a take of Brian McKnight's 90s hit 'Back at One' as well as Craig David's '7 Days' but with a queer kink-forward spin."Last summer, the band covered Ginuwine's "Pony," a certified R&B classic, and naturally wanted to keep "that spirit of sexual absurdity in this track. We hope it makes you laugh and inspires you to try something new." The expression of sexuality is a key component of the band's music. "For me, kink has been really important and expansive in the experience of having a queer body," shares Wellbaum. "As a genderfluid person, it's been interesting noticing the restrictions in making the body more visible." Wellbaum recently underwent top surgery and is still exploring how to share that story publicly and through music. "Although I have had top surgery, I have a nonbinary style of it that does not read as hypermasculine. This is a grey area when it comes to what is allowed on social media platforms and YouTube. In terms of what I put online, I have always been a relatively private person and kept the focus on the music."As Wellbaum gets older, they are "becoming increasingly curious about how it would feel to share more of my truth and story with our audience. I'm a strong believer that representation is incredibly helpful in all collective marginalized journeys and would love to see some of those online restrictions evolve to allow representation of all gender expressions.""Spill the Juice" is out now. Slothrust's new EP Wildcard is set to be released September 26.

One of the best lesbian games ever made is getting a TV show from one of our fave queer creators
Your sapphic gamer dreams are about to come true! Lesbian video games rarely get the recognition they deserve, but one of the best sapphic games ever made is being turned into a TV series, and a queer creator is helming it.A live-action version of the critically acclaimed video game franchise Life Is Strange is being made by Amazon Prime Video with Charlie Covell, who is queer and nonbinary, serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner."It's a huge honor to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios," Covell said in Amazon's press release. "I am a massive fan of the game, and I'm thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can't wait to share Max and Chloe's story with fellow players and new audiences alike."The television series, helmed by Covell, who is best known for the comic book adaptation The End of the F***ing World for Netflix, will follow Max, a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.Chloe was confirmed to be a lesbian in the prequel game Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, and the relationship between Max and Chloe is central to the plot of the video game franchise. And theyre not the only queer characters in the games; there are other LGBTQ+ characters and romantic interests throughout. Between sapphic characters and a queer creator at the helm, it looks like well be getting a very lesbian-centric series!

Creator of the trans flag is fleeing U.S. due to LGBTQ+ persecution
Monica Helms, the Navy veteran and creator of the original transgender pride flag, is fleeing the country due to anti-LGBTQ persecution. She and her wife, Darlene Wagner, launched a GoFundMe earlier this year to facilitate their move abroad. We are worried theres a possibility something could happen where we end up getting arrested just for being who we are, Helms said in an interview with the Bay Area Reporter when the fundraiser first kicked off.The couple currently lives in Georgia, which Erin in the Mornings newest risk assessment map labeled as a high risk area for transgender people. Helms is by no means the only transgender refugee fleeing the United States. In May, a Williams Institute poll found that nearly half of all trans adult respondents had considered moving out of state or out of the country.Since 2023, almost three dozen anti-trans bills have been introduced in Georgia, four of which have passed, according to the Trans Legislation Tracker. There was a ban on trans girls playing on scholastic womens sports teams, a ban on using state funds to provide transition-related health care to incarcerated people, a ban on providing evidence-based medical treatment for minors with gender dysphoria, and the Georgia Religious Freedom Restoration Actwhich does not explicitly target trans people, but is likely to make it easier to discriminate against them using religion as a legal defense. (Thankfully, there have been some successful and ongoing legal challenges to many of these policies.)However, even blue states are starting to see problems, Helms told the Bay Area Reporter. Californias governor reportedly moved to kill pro-LGBTQ bills behind the scenes; New Jersey school boards have engaged in a coordinated effort to forcibly out trans students to hostile parents; and hospitals located within Democratic strongholds across the country are violating state equal protections laws to deny trans kids access to health care, capitulating to Trumpian threats.NBCs Jo Yurcaba profiled families of trans kids moving to places like Australia and New Zealand. Hannah Kreager, a 22-year-old trans woman from Arizona, filed a groundbreaking asylum claim in Canada earlier this year; if granted, it would mark the first time a trans person from the United States would be given asylum in another country due to their LGBT status.Of course, all of these stories come with the presumption of privilege. Trans people in these scenarios may have had familial support and/or a source of income or wealth that enabled them to uproot their lives to a safer place. Others resort to bouncing from state to state to receive care, uprooting their lives to live in a more tolerant community or traveling across state or international lines periodically to access health care.As for Helms, she vowed to continue to fight for trans people no matter where she lives. We will not abandon our activism, she wrote in her GoFundMe.Helms designed the transgender pride flag after having a conversation with the creator of the bisexual pride flag in 1999, she told the Bay Area Reporter. She has said it is important to her that it remains open and free to use for the public. The pink, white, and blue flag has become a household symbol for trans people and their loved ones.No matter how you fly it, it's always correct, which signifies finding correctness in our own lives, Helms said.

Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney on the unlikely, intimate friendship between men in 'Twinless'
Theres plenty of online chatter about a sex scene between Dylan OBriens Rocky and James Sweeneys Dennis in the dark comedy Twinless. But its the unlikely friendship between Rockys straight twin brother, Roman (also OBrien), and Dennis that's the most intimate in the indie film that Sweeney wrote and directed. The men meet at a support group for grieving twins following a freak accident that kills Rocky. They find companionship and an intimacy rarely depicted on screen between disparate men: Roman is a laconic jock type estranged from his mother, Lisa (Lauren Graham), who he believes loved his gay twin more, and Dennis is a lonely gay man with a sardonic wit. One of the most beautiful parts of the story to me was to see how this guy who I'm sure has never had a relationship like this one in his life, nor is it something that's normalized from the community that he comes from, and who he grew up around have that relationship sort of be the impetus to undergo this evolution that he's never encountered before in his life, OBrien, who recently starred in the queer film Ponyboi, tells Out.That change the Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner star references is Romans de facto second chance with the brother hed rarely saw who he mocked for being gay when they were young. The friendship with Dennis allows Roman to be the brother he never was and to atone for failing to accept Rocky. But theres a deception at the center of their friendship that threatens to unravel their bond and adds tension to the Twinless. Dennis has fabricated a twin to gain access to get closer to Roman, and Roman is unaware that his new friend and his deceased brother knew one another. Its an unforgivable lie born out of loneliness. Loneliness is something that everybody experiences, but I think particularly for queer people, it can shape your experience, and your fear of abandonment, and how you navigate the world, and how you maybe cling to relationships because maybe you don't often experience somebody who sees you and understands you, Sweeney shares.Soon, Denniss lies snowball, and his colleague, the ebullient Marcie (Aisling Franciosi from Game of Thrones and Speak No Evil), catches on once she and Roman meet at a party. Jealous, Dennis perceives her as a risk to his friendship.[Relationships] can feel really devastating when it doesn't feel like that's going to be permanent. So I think we see that unfold in various respects in this film, and between the characters of Roman and Dennis who are, I think both seeing a counterpart to each other in some ways, Sweeney says. For Graham, whos played iconic mothers in Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, Lisa is disconnected from her living son, the one her character is most like, she says. While my character is maybe less sympathetic than others I've gotten to play, I think the movie is so kind, Graham says. The movie just has such generosity thematically in terms of its understanding of complex human relationships, and ultimately, it's just a story of love and the power of love. Dylan O'Brien as Roman and James Sweeney as Dennis in Twinless Roadside Attractions It is just a really positive portrayal of complicated people, and that can't do anything, I think, except be positive and bring us together, she adds of the experience of watching it in the theater. The driving force behind Twinless, Sweeney, who wrote, directed, and starred in 2019s Straight Up, is excited for people to see his film in the theater at a time when fewer queer stories are making it to the big screen.I was thinking about the films that have even played in theaters with queer elements that had a wide theatrical release, and it's sort of far and few between, Sweeney says. It's especially meaningful that it will give opportunity for audiences to enjoy this and a communal experience.I think I'm really excited when I see films that are sort of incidentally queer, and ultimately that kind of comes down to the decision makers, he adds. I got to make exactly the film that I wanted to make, and really, I feel like I got a good deal out of that at the end of the day.Twinless is in theaters now.

Straight Nonsense: Let's talk Netflix's 'Unknown Number: The High School Catfish' doc
In the column Straight Nonsense, columnist Moises Mendez II takes a queer eye to the insanity of straight culture. Warning: spoilers for Netflix's Unknown Number: The High School Catfish documentary ahead.True crime documentaries are all the rage right now, and it feels like every time a new one is released, it's more unbelievable than the last. Having watched my fair share of these sorts of documentaries, it's hard to surprise me but Netflix's latest true crime investigation into a truly absurd case out of Michigan actually stunned me, and I'm at a loss for words. - YouTube www.youtube.com Unknown Number: The High School Catfish documentary is becoming one of the most talked-about films this past week because of its sheer absurdity. The story follows two high school students, Lauryn Licari and Owen McKenny, who recount their experiences receiving anonymous text messages harassing them and those around them. For over a year and a half, the two high school freshmen would receive explicit, vile messages sometimes up to 30 a day. While the two dated, the perpetrator would send the messages mainly to Licari: taunting her, calling her ugly, worthless, and anorexic in new ways every day; sending photos of the pair with vomit emojis plastered over Licari's face; and telling Licari that McKenny didn't want to be with her, with the perpetrator describing in detail what they would do to Owen, sexually. The worst messages of all were the ones telling Licari to kill herself. Some of the text messages included things like: "It is obvious he wants me, his attention is constantly on me Not sure what he told you but he is coming to the Halloween party and we are both DTF." And: "He wants nothing to do with you He think youre annoying and an ugly ass bitch and wishes you would leave him the fuck alone Why do you think he is on his phone all the time texting me? You didnt get invited to sleep with him, I did. Im spending the night with him, Im sharing a bed with him, not you."It's an incredibly dark story that lasted for months as the town's police department investigated the source of the messages. The teens' mothers Kendra Licari and Jill McKenny got involved and worked with local law enforcement to get to the bottom of this ordeal. During this time, the police worked with the school's principal and superintendent to pin down the harasser. But because the phone number frequently changed, they were unable to crack the case. That was until Officer Brad Peter was brought on to the investigation by Sheriff Michael Main.Peter works for the Mid-Michigan Computer Crimes Task Force, a partnership between the FBI and local law enforcement, and he was the person to find the culprit. He found out that the bully was using an app called Pinger, which is used to message and call people from different numbers. Only one number popped up repeatedly and it belonged to Lauryn's mom, Kendra. (L to R) Kendra Licari, and Lauryn in 'Unknown Number: The High School Catfish'Courtesy NetflixFor almost two years, this woman was cyber-bullying her own teenage daughter with the most vile and nasty messages even going so far as to sending her a message (from a burner number) saying, "KILL YOURSELF NOW BITCH."In the documentary, audiences see Kendra get caught red-handed in front of her daughter who has dealt with the relentless bullying for over a year. The mother's response? She immediately gets up to start hugging Lauryn, saying she can't be away from her. Her husband and Lauryn's father, Shawn, is notified that the nightmare has come to an end but for he and Lauryn, it was just the beginning of a much larger issue. Kendra lied about the family's finances she was fired from her job at Central Michigan University and Ferris State because of her performance according to an investigation from The Cut, it was because she spent "excessive time on non-work texting and calls. (L to R) Sophie, Khloe, and Macy in 'Unknown Number: The High School Catfish'Courtesy NetflixAs the whole town breathed a sigh of relief, the damage that Kendra caused was met with punishment. In December 2022, she was arrested and in spring 2023, she was sentenced to 19 months in prison on two counts of cyberstalking. While in prison, she was still able to have communication with her daughter, and they messaged regularly through phone calls and emails. The reason for Kendra's behavior, she said during her sentencing, was that after doing months of counseling, she discovered she had a mental illness and mentioned depression anxiety and suppressed childhood trauma stemming from a sexual assault that occurred when she was a teenager. In the documentary, through a flood of tears, she said did this to keep Lauryn close to her because she felt her daughter drifting from her. Her actions bore the intended results as Lauryn leaned heavily on her mom, who got to act like the hero. The superintendent dubbed Kendra's actions as "cyber-Munchausens," tearing Lauryn down just to build her back up again. Her truly heinous actions quickly became national news and the subject of conversation online, but mainly due to the way she was given space to share her story in the documentary. At the beginning of the film, Kendra comes off a concerned parent up until the moment she's revealed as the person sending hundreds of egregious messages to her daughter. (@) There's no question about the severity of her crimes, but the general public felt that she should not have gotten access to her daughter after telling her to kill herself and felt that her prison sentence was too short. On top of that, the documentary rarely challenged Kendra when it came to her intentions, never pushing further than just one question nor was she met with a rebuttal. At the end of the documentary, Lauryn expressed wanting to still have a relationship with her mother and moving past this ordeal which makes sense but you can't help but feel bad for this young girl who has only ever known this person as her mother. It's a heartbreaking story and Kendra undoubtedly deserved jail time, but in my opinion, she should not have had contact with Lauryn while there nor should she be given the opportunity to rebuild her relationship until she's done some serious mental health work. It's gut-wrenching to watch a teenage girl, already dealing with the awkwardness of high school, deal with this vitriol from her own mother. After watching this documentary, the only thought on my mind was: Are Straight People OK? The answer: Absolutely not.Moises Mendez II is a staff writer at Out magazine. How Elizabeth II taught a Black trans woman to survive in the Trump era
What's your favorite comfort show or movie?I've always been a lover of costume dramas. My foray into this genre began in 1998, when I was enamored by Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I of England in Elizabeth. Nearly two decades later, I'm still rewatching that movie and other dramatized period pieces from Downton Abbey to Bridgerton. I've even turned it into a Labor Day tradition; I would spend the final days of summer rewatching some of my favorite costume dramas.I decided to rewatch Netflix's The Crown last month, the hit series on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, from her 1947 wedding to the 2005 wedding of her eldest son and his mistress-turned-fiance. Yes, I'm aware many of these series are highly dramatized for viewership. But it's still entertaining to see how these female figuresmany of whom I studied as an undergrad and grad studentare portrayed for mass consumption. I concluded the series this past weekend for the twentieth time, coincidentally not long before the third anniversary of the late Queen's death today.Elizabeth II was more than just a figure of curiosity. She, like so many other queens, became a model for me. Not only on how to navigate life's trials and tribulations, but even how to surviveand triumphin this second age of Trump.Queen Elizabeth II: A Stoic Model of SteadfastnessThere are countless books, documentaries, and an award-winning six-season series centered on the semi-private and public life of Britain's longest-reigning monarch. Many have paid attention to her dedication to duty, ingrained in her since birth and proclaimed on her 21st birthday to dedicate her whole life to the service of the Crown and Commonwealth, the free association of former British colonies.Though she reigned as a constitutional monarch rather than an absolute one, Elizabeth II faced personal, familial, and political challenges head-on and rarely let them go unaddressed. This ranged from the revelation of her sister Princess Margaret's relationship with the divorced Peter Townsend (a taboo at the time) in the 1950s, to the supposed growing tension between Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s. Added to the breakdown of marriages, the fire at Windsor Castle, and the death of the late Princess Diana in the 1990s, it's remarkable to see how she handled events with poise and grace. What I learned from Queen Elizabeth is that even under the most tremendous pressures from society, familyeven selfone must maintain self-control and be resilient against all odds.Queen Elizabeth I: A Queen with the Heart of a KingThe first Elizabethan reign of the 16th century is also one of great fascination, and perhaps the one I've learned the most about since childhood. Elizabeth I, "The Virgin Queen," was a skilled stateswoman who faced numerous challenges, including societal, religious, and political ones. This was still an era where it was expected that women not only married but deferred to their spouses. She was only the second crowned female monarch of England, so the pressure to marry and continue the Tudor dynasty was equally paramount. The religious schism of the 1500s between Catholics and Protestants was not just fought on the continent but in her kingdom, as Anglicans and Catholics wrestled for spiritual supremacy.Yet in the male-dominated era of late-Tudor politics, Elizabeth I succeeded in becoming a beloved queen. She coyly navigated between deferring to Parliament while also dismissing their pleas for her to marry, using her presumed "virginity" as an asset in forming her image. Though her earthly relationship with Edward Dudley, Earl of Leicester, was well-known, she had no problem casting him and others aside as she refused to marry throughout her reign. In the midst of a heated argument about presumed lovers (he moved on to one of her ladies-in-waiting; she showed affection to another courtier), Queen Elizabeth reminded him that, "I will have but one mistress here, and no master." Even in religion, she favored the policy of via media, or the middle way, by reforming the Church of England to include Catholic and Protestant elements. Most famously, during her 1588 Speech at Tilbury, she proclaimed that despite having the "body of a weak and feeble woman," she maintained "the heart of a king, and of a king of England too." It was an iconic declaration that she had no desire to submit to social conventions. For this and many reasons, she served as an inspiration for the possibilities I could become in a world that tries to fit me in a box. Queen Anne: Underestimated but UndervaluedQueen Anne, the early 18th-century ruler of Great Britain, became a surprising addition to my collection of inspiring queens. Initially, she was one of those queens I glossed over between her uncle Charles II and her successor, George I. The only facts I knew about her were that she built a non-royal palace for the first Duke of Marlborough and suffered from gout. (But were truly royal if you weren't?)What I discovered throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies as an aspiring royal historian was that she was more politically astute than history has credited her, mainly due to the influence of her political opponents and the memoirs of Sarah Churchill, Marlborough's wife and Anne's friend-turned-enemy. Queen Anne played a pivotal role in uniting England and Scotland, which were then still separate kingdoms, into a unified kingdom. She also oversaw royal patronages that supported the likes of Sir Isaac Newton and turned a bit of land she owned into one of England's greatest institutions: Ascot Racecourse.Opponentsand historyhave underestimated her contributions, which have been overlooked when compared to Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. But that underestimation has made her a point of curiosity and fascination, with her gaining popularity in recent years due to Olivia Coleman's portrayal as Queen Anne in 2018's The Favourite. If anything, I learned there can be power in being underestimated, because your (fr)enemies never know your next move.Screen Queens from Genovia to New York CityThese are three of many queens, contemporary and historical, who've inspired me along my journey. But it's also fitting that I give my honorable mentions to the fictional queens, as well. I still look to Julie Andrews' Queen Clarisse in The Princess Diaries for the occasional refinement, grand maternal love, and etiquette lessons. And though they never wore crowns, Living Single's Khadijah James (played by the Queen Latifah) taught me never to back down and speak truth to power. And as the owner of Flavor magazine, she planted the seed in me for a love of writing. It was Sarah Jessica Park's Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City who not only watered that seed, but taught me to dream big and love bigger, no matter where the winds may blow.Regardless of whether they're historical or contemporary, fictional or real, many of these women inhabited or were placed in a male-dominated world. Each of them dealt with men who underestimated their worth. Elizabeth I had Philip II of Spain, Queen Anne had parliamentarians, and Carrie had Mr. Big. My adversaries come in the form of transphobes and racists who believe I have no right to live my best life. I've been harassed online, my phone and address doxed, and occasionally hurled slurs from drivers. All tactics to employ fear in the hopes that I would cower and give up silently. But it has only strengthened my resolve. Fear can limit our capacity to learn, fear can limit our capacity to love. Fear is the greatest enemy of freedom, and never let fear take hold of your destiny. Since January, I've tried my best to keep calm and carry on. Thanks in part to an understanding therapist, walking, and enjoying more audiobooks on historic queens learned and newly-discovered (a rarity, but it still happens!) But there's also been this stillness within me, constantly remembering one of Queen Elizabeth II's final addresses. At the height of the COVID pandemic, she gave a rallying speech via televised message as individuals across the country and the world were still grappling with the health crisis. "We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return," she affirmed. "We will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again."And this moment, like so many fueled by division, is not sustainable. And when it's all over, this country will take yet another course. Some will come to terms with uncomfortable truths that led them down into the abyss; others will reconcile with the hate, fear, and violence that emerged from it. But through it, we we will heal again. We will rebuild again. We will have hope again.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. Marriage equality will be banned in these 31 states if Obergefell is overturned
31 states would ban marriage equality if they couldOver 60 percent of the country will no longer have marriage equality if the U.S. Supreme Court reverses it.Laws prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying were deemed unconstitutional by the 2015 ruling, Obergefell v. Hodges. This could change if the court were to revisit and reverse the ruling, as it did with Roe v. Wade, which previously deemed abortion bans unconstitutional. If the Supreme Court reverses Obergefell and determines bans against marriage equality are not unconstitutional, lower or federal court rulings that declared the bans are unconstitutional will be invalidated as they are bound to Supreme Court precedent. This means states would be able to enforce their bans even if they weren't apart of the Obergefell lawsuit. The only state with a marriage equality law still on the books that would not be enforceable is Iowa, where the state Supreme Court the next highest authority after the U.S. Supreme Court deemed the ban unconstitutional. Similar to the federal court, the state Supreme Court would need to agree to hear the case again to reverse this.Related: Will marriage equality be overturned? Here's how it could happen If Obergefell is reversed, marriages between same-sex couples will still be recognized federally under the Respect for Marriage Act. Signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2022, the act mandates that the federal government recognizes same-sex and interracial marriages, and that all states recognize those performed in other states. However, the act does not require states to allow marriages between same-sex couples. While the Supreme Court has made no official move to reconsider marriage equality, nine states have recently introduced resolutions asking the court to hear the case again. None have yet passed, and even if they were to, the resolutions are nonbinding meaning they carry no legal weight, and the court is not obligated to hear them. However, some justices have voiced opposition to Obergefell. When the conservative majority created by Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, Clarence Thomas wrote in his concurring opinion at the time that the court should also revisit and overrule decisions that prevent state restrictions on contraception, marriage equality, sodomy, and other private consensual sex acts, calling the rulings "demonstrably erroneous."Here are the 31 states where marriages between same-sex couples would again be banned if Obergefell is overturned, as compiled by the Movement Advancement Project, 24 of which have constitutional amendments that can only be overturned through referendum votes. AlabamaAlabama has a constitutional amendment, Amendment 774, that banned marriage equality in a 2006 referendum vote. I think this is the best game of Survivor basically I've played because I think I made some pretty great moves, and I kept myself in a majority alliance."Shallow played her first game back in 2006 for the show's 13th season and placed sixth, but two years later, she returned for the Micronesia season and took home her first win. She played two more games in 2010 and 2020 before making her way on to the second season of Alan Cummings' wildly popular reality competition show, The Traitors. Shallow made it to 11th place as a Traitor, going up against stiff competition. This was her first Survivor game in five years and her first win since 2008.Shallow's fellow contestants paid tribute to her as one of the most respected players including her fellow Traitors and Survivor cast mate, Cirie Fields, whom she formed a special bond with. "It has been a pleasure to be a part of your Survivor journey. And you'll forever be my Survivor soulmate." See on Instagram Shallow shared a few words about Fields on her Instagram in a post dedicated to her fellow player before the finale. "Yes, Survivor is a game of betrayal. Meet every out LGBTQ+ player in 'SNL' season 51
After a few surprise exits among the cast, Saturday Night Live has announced the final lineup for its 51st season.Among the returning players are some fan favorites viewers will be thrilled to see coming back, including Michael Che, Colin Jost, Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernandez, Ego Nwodim, James Austin Johnson, Andrew Dismukes, and, of course, Kenan Thompson, Jane Wickline and Ashley Padilla will also be returning as featured players. Ben Marshall (of Please Do Not Destroy) is being bumped to a main cast member, while newcomers Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, Tommy Brennan, and Veronika Slowikowska will be joining the show.To celebrate the upcoming new season, here's a list of all the out LGBTQ+ cast members for season 51 of SNL.1. Bowen YangYang joined SNL as a writer back in 2018, but was bumped up to featured player just a season later. Despite carving out a solid career for himself in movies and TV since then, Yang has remained an integral part of SNL, bringing us iconic sketches like the Sara Lee social media disaster with Harry Styles....and that's it.To be fair, not everyone on the SNL cast has labeled themselves, so there certainly could be other LGBTQ+ players among the remaining 17. But all-in-all, it's a pretty bleak look for the showalbeit not necessarily one that's too surprising. There have actually only been nine out LGBTQ+ cast members in SNL history. Maybe we just got a little too accustomed to there actually being more than one present at a time during the early 2020s. And maybe it's just a little more disheartening than usual when we're living through a time where LGBTQ+ acceptance is dipping, making visibility more important than ever. Yet we've also been seeing a decrease in on-screen representation.Hopefully SNL will have plenty of queer hosts and musical guests on during the new season, but we look forward to the day when we can finally at least say there have been 10 LGBTQ+ cast members on the show during its 50+ years on the air.

Curtains will close early on 'Cabaret' after star Billy Porter forced to drop out
Auf Wiedersehen to Cabaret! The latest iteration of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is ending its run a month early due to star Billy Porter pulling out because of a serious illness. The Broadway production announced over the weekend that it will put on its final show at New York's August Wilson Theatre on Sunday, September 21. The Porter-led production was originally set to end on October 19."Come hear the music play. Final performance September 21," read the announcement on the musical's Instagram page. "Due to a serious case of sepsis, Billy Porter must also withdraw from the production. His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule."Understudies Marty Lauter and David Merino will fill in for Porter as the show's Emcee for the final performances."It is with a heavy heart that we have made the painful decision to end our Broadway run on Sept. 21," producer Adam Speers said in a statement Sunday, per Entertainment WeeklyEntertainment Weekly. "On behalf of all the producers, we're so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff's important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here.""Billy was an extraordinary Emcee, bringing his signature passion and remarkable talent. We wish Billy a speedy recovery, and I look forward to working with him again in the very near future," he concluded.See on InstagramThe show opened with Eddie Redmayne as The Emcee and Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles. Later, Adam Lambert and Aulii Cravalho took over, followed by Orivlle Peck and Eva Noblezada.Porter joined the production as The Emcee in July, alongside Marisha Wallace. The two were the first Black actors to play the roles on Broadway.Unfortunately, Porter's run in the show was marred by controversy. In an interview, Porter explained that his take on the character was an American who fled the Jim Crow South to go to Europe, only to find himself in the rise of the Nazi party in Germany."With what's going on in the world right now, you know, Black people have replaced the Jews in this sort of configuration of what we're going through," he said. Some took this as a slight to the plight of both Jewish people under Nazi Germany and today.Others have taken umbrage with his performance, saying it was over the top, featured too many fourth wall breaks, and complaining that he changed the lyrics to a song.Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club ran on Broadway for 592 performances since April 2024. The show has seen a huge drop in attendance since a high in July.

College football just got a lot hotter thanks to this steamy moment
The South Florida Bulls may have stunned the Florida Gators with a last-second field goal, but it wasnt the scoreboard that had people gasping. After clinching the 1816 win, kicker Nico Gramatica and holder Chase Leon fell into a postgame embrace so tender, so locked-in, and so undeniably loaded that football fans were left spiraling in the best way.Captured on ESPNs broadcast, the moment showed Gramatica grabbing Leons face and pulling him close in what can only be described as pure sports romance. The two were cheek to cheek, grinning, and very much not worried about hiding their feelings bromantic or otherwise. To be (@) It didnt take long for the clip and screenshots to go viral. (@) If loving football is gay Im Nico Gramatica, one person wrote. While another pointed to the moment as an example of life imitating art. (@) Another simply quoted Brokeback Mountain with: I wish I knew how to quit you. (@) Others said it might be time for them to start actually watching football. (@) Gramatica, for what its worth, is no stranger to attention. Hes the son of former NFL Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ Martin Automatica Gramatica, and part of a USF legacy family of record-breaking kickers. But on Saturday night, it was Nicos vibenot his statsthat had people pulling out their romcom casting wish lists. (@) And Leon? Hes an Aussie transfer who played last season at Lamar University before joining USF, where he now serves as punter and kickoff specialist. We dont know much else about him, but judging by the way he looked back at Gramatica, he knows something about bro love languages.Whether this was romance, bromance, or just pure adrenaline, it was the kind of moment that reminds us its not always about the game, but also the magic that happens when nobodys trying to play it cool.Check out the video below.

Bowen Yang confirmed for season 51 of 'SNL,' amid cast shake-up
All eyes are on the cast list for season 51 of Saturday Night Live now that some heavy hitters, including Heidi Gardner, have announced their exits. Ahead of the lineup's release, audiences were curious to see if Bowen Yang would be able to balance another Wicked press tour, the booming popularity of Las Culturistas, the podcast he hosts with best friend Matt Rogers, and being a cast member of the demanding sketch show. But it appears so, as it was announced early Monday that Yang would be returning for his sixth season alongside fan favorites like Ego Nwodim and Chloe Fineman. Kenan Thompson will also return to Studio 8H for his record-breaking 23rd season, which will feature Colin Jost and Michael in their 12th season as hosts of "Weekend Update." Comedians Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Marcello Hernndez, Andrew Dismukes, and James Austin Johnson will be back to round out the veteran cast. And newcomers Jane Wickline and Ashley Padilla will get a chance to shine again in their sophomore seasons. There will also, of course, be some fresh faces on the show come October. Joining the cast for their first season are TikTok-star-turned-actress Veronika Slowikowska and comedians Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, and Kam Patterson. But along with the good news comes the bad. Ahead of Monday's announcement, there were multiple departures, not all of which seemed to be facilitated by the cast member themselves. Celeste Yim, SNL's first openly trans writer, was one of the first people to share the news of their exit on social media, citing the show's demanding schedule. "Lorne hired me over the phone when I was 23 and the job literally made all of my dreams come true BUT it was also grueling and I slept in my office every week," their August 24 statement on Instagram read. "BUT my friends helped me with everything BUT I got yelled at by random famous men BUT some famous girls too BUT I loved it and I laughed every day and it's where I grew up."Emil Wakim, who only had one season on the show, shared on social media that he wouldn't be returning for another go-around a few days after Yim. "It was a gut punch of a call to get but i'm so grateful for my time there," Wakim wrote, also on Instagram. Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, and John Higgins of Please Don't Destroy join the list of notable departures, along with Gardner, who is exiting after eight seasons. Notably, Yang is said to be the only LGBTQ+ cast member appearing on the upcoming season.

Ayo Edebiri is being praised online for clapping back at an Italian journalist
Ayo Edebiri had what some are describing as the perfect clapback to an Italian reporter's line of questioning during a press junket for Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film, After The Hunt. The Bottoms star sat alongside castmates Andrew Garfield and Julia Roberts when a reporter for ArtsLife lobbed an uncomfortable question at the group. "In your opinion, what we lost during the politically correct era and what we have to expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and Black Lives Matter are done?" The journalist, whose name is Federica Polidoro, then made clear that the question was for, "The two of you, Andrew and Julia."The three actors immediately appeared visibly uncomfortable, scoffing and shifting in their seats. Roberts even asked the journalist to repeat the question, adding, "With your sunglasses on, I can't tell which of us you're talking to."After Polidoro confidently repeated the question, clarifying that it was indeed for Garfield and Roberts, Edebiri then spoke up. "I know that that's not for me, and I don't know if it's purposeful that it's not for me. But I just am curious," Edebiri said, glancing at her costars. "I don't think it's done at all. I think, maybe, hashtags might not be used as much, or...but I do think that there's work being done by activists, by people every day, that's beautiful, important work that's not finished."Even if it isn't as visible in the media, the actor continued, that important work continues to be carried out "because this world is really charged." "Maybe if there's, like, not mainstream coverage in the way that there might've been, daily headlines in the way that it might've been eight or so years ago...but I don't think that it means that the work is done," Edebiri concluded. "That's what I would say." - YouTube www.youtube.com Edebiri is being praised online for her response to the line of questioning. Meanwhile, Polidoro, who doubled down in light of the backlash, is being heavily criticized."I have been subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public," the Italian journalist wrote in an Instagram statement, which was reported on by E! News. "I find it striking that those who unjustly accuse me of racism and consider themselves custodians of justice find acceptable violent language, personal attacks, and cyberbullying."She concluded, "I would like to clarify that, rather than focusing on the thoughtful responses of Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield, the discussion continues solely on how I should have phrased the question."This is the second time in recent weeks that After the Hunt has been the subject of a controversy, with the feature grabbing headlines out of the Venice Film Festival for its nod to disgraced director Woody Allen.

Go Ask Alex: My younger partner won't bottom. How do we save our sex life?
I enjoy your column, and I have a situation.Im in a committed, monogamous relationship with a man 14 years younger. I recently came out after a 25-year marriage to a woman. Following my divorce, my partner and I found each other online, long-distance. We started slowly, as friends learning about each others lives, building trust and a foundation. We shortly exited the apps and turned the relationship romantic. We now live together; my children and my mom get along with my partner very well, and hes become a part of our family; I love him and tell him that often. He is super loving, caring, and concerned about me.We lack penetrative sex and, in particular, me topping him. We used to have sex once or more a week, but in the last several months, thats dwindled to once a month. At the point Im writing this, from a vacation, were now going on five weeks without anything other than handjobs or blowies, and with both, we ultimately are getting ourselves off with the other participating alongside, not penetrative sex. Sex with my partner is a bit laborious. I am large to him (8), so its an undertaking, lets say, to get him ready. Theres also pain; I sense he doesnt like to bottom because of the discomfort, though once Im fully inside, hoping my erection lasts, he seems to enjoy it, but he wont let me go wild on him because it hurts. He doesnt do anything really about the pain or getting ready, such as stretching, poppers, etc. So, more often than not, I end up bottoming, as its easier to get sex going that way, and because I also want to make him happy, and I enjoy bottoming. Plus, he likes me in that position; he enjoys the domination, though afterwards he also tries to persuade me that Im the bottom in the sexual relationship. No, Im really not.Ive racked my brain to try to figure out how to deal with this issue, maintain the relationship, and not hurt his fragile ego. Ive considered ultimatums, asking for hall passes, suggesting finding a third or another couple, and even reentering the apps to talk to other guys about the issue. The solutions involving others concern me because I feel they could erode trust and end up breaking us up. I also think it would hurt his heart for me to suggest that.Bottom line: I came out of a sexless 25-year heteronormative marriage to be authentic and settle for nothing less than personal and sexual fulfillment. How can I maintain a relationship with my partner, who I love so much, and I dont want to lose, without frequent, penetrative sex being involved in our relationship? How do I even broach suggestions about sexual fulfillment from others with him, if thats what I am to do?Sincerely,Frustrated.Hey Frustrated, Yeah, thats frustrating. I wonder if, in all the time you spent chatting online, you talked at length about sex? Based on your question, Id say your partner just isnt into bottoming. In fact, he seems opposed to it and seems to prefer being dominant in bed. He may not have been aware of this when you were chatting over long distance, so he might not have communicated these desires so well. But hes giving you every sign that hes not into it hes even trying to designate you as the bottom in your relationship. Waving aside the (false) assumption that every gay relationship needs a bottom and a top, hes all but explicitly stated what he wants you to be and that, paired with his obvious discomfort and displeasure in receptive anal sex, makes me think youre dating a top who is willing on rare occasions to bottom for you because he cares about you, but not because he wants to. And it sounds like youre the same. Your message makes it clear that some great aspects of this relationship make it worth preserving. Hes a loving partner. Your family likes him. Hes attentive and caring. If your relationship is solid, it sounds like youre able to talk about things and communicate well that is the core, necessary ingredient of all happy couples so why are you nervous to share these feelings and frustrations with him? If hes a good partner, hell be willing to talk, patiently and kindly, about all this as, indeed, he must. You should be bringing these concerns to him. I know many gay romantic pairings of men who both prefer to top. None are monogamous. Sorry, but thats how it is. If neither of you desires bottoming, you have limited options: 1) every time you want to have penetrative sex, one of you must reluctantly bottom, and without this being the desired option, it makes sense that the amount of penetrative sex youre having would decrease over time; 2) you can rock a total bottoms world by sharing and gang-banging the shit out of him all night, together; or 3) you can both have sex with others who satisfy your respective desires and go home to each other every night to enjoy all the closeness and intimacy you already have, with your sex needs met elsewhere. Sure, theres a fourth option, too: You can break up. But that seems needless when you have a great relationship! You might just have to join the countless gay couples that arent totally, 100 percent sexually exclusive. And, yes, that means communicating well talking about feelings of jealousy when they arise (they will) without screaming and slamming doors and being patient and understanding with each other. But these are the exact requirements of all happy, successful relationships. Do not re-enter the apps. Dont do anything without talking to him first about all this. If he does not listen, hear you out, and respond kindly, thats a red flag that he might be unable to have this kind of mature, adult conversation and that doesnt bode well for any relationship, gay or straight, monogamous or otherwise. Im fully with you in the last paragraph of your message. I feel that. Do not settle for anything less than sexual and personal fulfillment that is what we all deserve. He deserves it too. You both deserve the sex you want not the reluctant, only if I have to, take-one-for-the-team sex, but the sex you fantasize about. What are his fantasies? Have you asked him? You guys need to talk about sex honestly, transparently, patiently. To answer your final question, you broach this conversation by saying something like: Hey, we dont need to have this conversation now, but can we schedule a time to sit down and talk about sex? I want to hear your thoughts on it, and I want to share my thoughts too. I dont want this to be rushed, so lets choose a time when were both free for the evening. Thats it. If that sounds serious to him, thats fine it is serious. The stakes are high. Yes, he might respond with insecurity and anger at the mere suggestion of sex with others, and that could end your relationship. But in its current state, your relationship is likely to end anyway youre so sexually dissatisfied that youre considering ultimatums and going on sex apps to talk to random strangers about the issue (please). Youre at the point where something needs to happen. This conversation is it. Hey there! Im Alexander Cheves. Im a sex writer and former sex workerI worked in the business for over 12 years. You can read my sex-and-culture column Last Call in Out and my book My Love Is a Beast: Confessions, from Unbound Edition Press. What is Lorde's gender? Everything the 'Man of the Year' singer has said
2025 is the year of our Lorde. The New Zealand-based singer and songwriter released her fourth studio album, Virgin, this summer, to acclaim from critics and fans. However, it's her comments about the album and how it explores her gender that have garnered the most attention.Throughout her publicity for Virgin, which came out June 27, Lorde has made remarks about how her music relates to her gender. Now, two months later, she's spoken out again on the subject. Let's review everything she has said on the subject. What does Lorde say about her gender now?In her newest comments about her gender, Lorde tells Dazed that her pronouns have not changed, "but some days, I can't wear women's clothes.""I've had to figure out how to have my makeup done in a way that doesnt make me feel trapped or tight or like the wrong thing. Now I just tell people, 'Treat it like male grooming.' There always need to be options for clothing, or shirts," she says. "I had no idea there would be days when I felt totally out of body, and it was because I was wearing women's clothes when it wasnt the right thing." "Its all a journey. I have no idea where its gonna go; it doesnt feel like Ive arrived anywhere permanent at all. Im sure itll keep unfurling, the way these things do. It really took me by surprise how much shame I felt feeling all that come up wasn't easy," she adds. "Even as I see my friends coming fully into their genders, feeling nothing but pride, love, respect, and bliss. I just think it takes time to metabolize and find itself. Im excited to find out where that lands, if it ever does land. Your whole life, it keeps unfurling."What does Lorde's Virgin album title have to do with her gender? In her Instagram Stories, Lorde spoke about why she named her album Virgin."There is evidence that the word 'virgin' derived from the combination of the Latin words 'vir-' (for man, as in 'virile') and '-gyne' (for woman, as in gynecology) a man-woman or androgynous person," a screenshot she shared reads. "This corresponds with the biblical story in Genesis 1:27: 'So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.' Perhaps God and the first human he/she created is/was intersex?"Is Lorde's album, Virgin, about gender? In an interview with Document Journal, Lorde said the new album was inspired by "becoming single, but also really facing my body stuff head-on, and starting to feel my gender broadening a little bit."In the interview, she also said she "was coming into [her] masculinity a bit more." She also sent an email announcing the new album, which spoke about the personal places the new music came from."The color of the album is clear like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc."What do Lorde's songs say about gender? The opening track of Virgin, titled "Hammer," features the line: "I burn and I sing and I scheme and I dance / Some days I'm a woman, some days I'm a man."In another song, she refers to herself as "Man of the Year." She told Rolling Stone that when she wrote the song, she tried to visualize a version of herself "that was fully representative of how [her] gender felt in that moment." That image included her "in men's jeans, this time wearing nothing else but her gold chain and duct tape on her chest.""I went to the cupboard, and I got the tape out, and I did it to myself," she said. "I have this picture staring at myself. I was blond. It scared me what I saw. I didn't understand it. But I felt something bursting out of me. It was crazy. It was something jagged. There was this violence to it."She told Dazed that the moment helped her come "into some understanding about myself, and felt a very pure version of myself present.""I had this roll of tape and grabbed it, put my jeans on, taped up, and saw myself and was like, 'Fuck, that's me.' Suddenly, I could see it."What did Lorde say about her gender at the Met Gala?Lorde attended the 2025 Met Gala, celebrating the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, where she was dressed in Thom Browne. When asked about her look, which featured an open back, she said it helped her express her gender."I just love the open back. It really represents where I'm at, gender-wise. I love it. I feel like a man and a woman, you know?" She added that the outfit's top was "a take on the cummerbund."What did Lorde say to Rolling Stone about gender? In a Rolling Stone cover story, Lorde expanded even more on her feelings about gender. She said that while undergoing treatment for an eating disorder, she was allowing herself to take up more space, which led to her examining her gender identity."My gender got way more expansive when I gave my body more room," she said, adding that she still calls herself a cis woman and uses she/her pronouns. Lorde also said she describes herself as "in the middle gender-wise."She also said that going off birth control for the first time in over a decade allowed her to "cut some sort of cord between [her] and this regulated femininity.""It sounds crazy, but I felt that all of a sudden, I was off the map of femininity," she added. "And I totally believed that that allowed things to open up."What did Lorde say Chappell Roan asked about her gender? In Rolling Stone, Lorde said that Roan, who has become a close friend, asked her how she identifies."She was like, 'So, are you nonbinary now?' And I was like, 'I'm a woman except for the days when I'm a man.' I know that's not a very satisfying answer, but there's a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up."Now, to Dazed, Lorde has cleared that up. "I think I misquoted that I feel really bad," Lorde says. "She said, very sweetly, something like, 'So your pronouns are changing?'"She clarified that no, right now, she/her pronouns feel right.

In conversation with People, the Australian nonbinary musician spoke about their IVF endeavor and called it "very grim" and said it was a "very up and down thing.""For anyone going through IVF queer or straight couples or anyone not even in a couple, just even on their own it's such a hard thing," G Flip told People. "And we're experiencing the real kind of sad and dark periods of this moment, where it's like, a little bit of good news, a lot of bad news, a little bit of hope, no hope."They go on to say that they and their partner will continue to be there for one another and "come out of it still a unit and try not to let it break the relationship or break people individually." Glen Powell's fake muscles on a 'GQ' cover has gays losing their minds
Glen Powell is used to his body driving the internet wild, but his latest GQ cover is taking that to new extremes! The Running Man star Glen Powell is GQ's latest cover star, and is making waves across the internet for his muscles both real and prosthetic! (@) This GQ cover touts a special report on "The State of The American Male in 2025," and features Twisters star Glen Powell on the cover wearing white Calvin Klein boxers and a white tank top. But it's the one other piece of clothing he's wearing that's drawing the most comments.Underneath his boxers, Powell is wearing a lower-body muscle suit by Smitizen. The suit makes his thighs look the same size as his torso, with muscles jutting out in every direction.Inside the magazine, he again wears the muscle suit, giving him a striking, but uncanny, physique. In the article, Powell is described as having an "old-fashioned masculine competency," "alpha energy," and "feels like a man." He's portrayed as a return to enthusiastic masculinity and a counter to brooding, introspective stars like Robert Pattinson and Timothe Chalamet. The images are certainly drawing a lot of attention, but much of it is confusion.Underneath the cover image, some comments praise his physique and gush about how sexy he is. However, most comments are either unsure of what they see or uncertain if the image is even real. (@) Many X users wondered if the image was AI turning to the platform's very own AI tool, Grok, to ask if the image is real."There's nothing hot about this body, he looks shapeless. The Upper part and Lower part of his body are not in good symmetry," writes @them_alone."Bro went to the gym and forgot he had a upper body," @notyourzaddyx says."I'm confused why he got two belly buttons am I dumb?" @A5strid asks. "Is this real or AI? I need to get myself this kind of body so I can intimidate everyone around me," adds @thisisLucain.

Oops! 10 wardrobe malfunctions from celebs that are hard to forget
The unintentional reveals of private parts. From Ricky Martin to Janet Jackson to Lil Nas X to Madonna, not even celebrities are exempt from experiencing a wardrobe malfunction. This has happened to a lot of singers who had their outfits destroyed during a performance, but it's happened to celebs on red carpets, too!See our list of 10 wardrobe malfunctions from celebrities below.Ricky Martin 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (September 2025)See on InstagramFirst things first! The latest wardrobe malfunction to make headlines came from Ricky Martin as he prepared to attend, perform in, and accept a special trophy at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The Puerto Rican singer's pants simply came undone, but he made it work anyway And shared a few thirst traps, as a treat, of course.Courtney Act 'Celebrity Big Brother UK' entrance (January 2018)Courtney Act had a wardrobe malfunction as early as entering the Celebrity Big Brother UK house in January 2018. Viewers were split some argued that it was campy and hilarious, while others questioned if this was a stunt to bring attention to herself on CBBUK.Considering that Courtney won that season of CBBUK, she emerged as a winner nonetheless.Harry Styles 'Love on Tour' concert (January 2023)@cheeseyeyesnice #harry #harrystyles #foryoupage #fyp #kiaforum #foryou #haroldstylesHarry Styles has been experimenting with all sorts of aesthetics in the past few years, turning looks and stunting pretty at different award shows, concerts, magazine covers, and special performances.Yet, it's clear from this TikTok video that Styles did not anticipate his pants completely tearing apart while being right in front of the audience at this January 2023 concert from Love on Tour.Miley Cyrus 'Miley's New Year's Eve Party' (December 2021)One could assume that Miley Cyrus' wardrobe malfunction happened during her Bangerz era but no, that actually wasn't the case at all!In 2021, Cyrus hosted a fabulous Miley's New Year's Eve Party telecast in which she dealt with a wardrobe malfunction. Honestly, it feels pretty on-brand for a piece of clothing to malfunction at New Year's Eve, but Cyrus handled it like a pro.Lil Nas X 'Saturday Night Live' (May 2021)Lil Nas X's first-ever appearance on Saturday Night Live was during his Montero era, which included the hit song "Call Me By Your Name."The out rapper delivered on the promise of giving fans an iconic performance on SNL he just didn't realize that this would include his pants getting tore, prompting him to cover his crotch for the entire end of the performance.Cardi B Bonnaroo Festival (June 2019)Cardi B proudly likes her big butt (and she cannot lie), but this wardrobe malfunction was definitely not something he was expecting.During a set at the 2019 Bonnaroo Festival, Cardi B's jumpsuit ripped open on the behind and prompted the singer to change into a bathrobe for the rest of the performance. Iconic, hilarious, and campy, even.Madonna The BRIT Awards (February 2015)This was frankly one of the most traumatizing moments for Madonna fans (and the singer herself) in the past 10 years. Madge had just started to promote her Rebel Heart album with "Living for Love" as its lead single. While performing the song at The BRIT Awards 2015 live, on national TV the cape that Madonna was wearing didn't come undone, causing the Queen of Pop to literally fall onto the floor in the performance. Madonna, a phenomenal performer with decades of experience, got right back up and kept the show going. But was it really upsetting to see the Queen of Pop falling down because of a wardrobe malfunction? Yes, it was. In the words of Edna Mode: "No. Capes. Ever!"Cate Blanchett 'Borderlands' premiere event (August 2024)One of the most hilarious wardrobe malfunctions of all time happened to Cate Blanchett at the premiere of Borderlands. Thankfully, Jamie Lee Curtis was nearby, saw what happened, and ran to shield Blanchett with her own body.In this interview with Entertainment Tonight, Blanchett laughed at the situation while also being horrified. On the other hand, Curtis acted like the whole thing was no big deal at all And just stood there, behind Blanchett for the entire interview, to protect the actress from being exposed. Icons indeed!Emily Blunt 'Oppenheimer' premiere in London (July 2023)@etalkctvGet yourself a friend like Florence Pugh! Miss Flo saved Emily Blunt from a wardrobe malfunction at the Oppenheimer premiere after her button popped on the red carpet. (: Getty/Mike Marsland) #FlorencePugh #EmilyBlunt #Oppenheimer #redcarpet #WardrobeMalfunctionSpeaking of friends saving friends: Emily Blunt also had a wardrobe function while attending the grand premiere of Oppenheimer in London. Y'know, no big deal!Thankfully, Florence Pugh came to the rescue and helped Blunt not get fully exposed. We love to see it.Janet Jackson Super Bowl XXXVIII (February 2004)There's nothing even remotely funny about Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl in February 2004, where she performed alongside Justin Timberlake and had a "nip slip" moment in front of millions of viewers at home. The outrage over this Super Bowl incident (which was clearly an accident) hurt Jackson's career for many years. In turn, it didn't affect Timberlake at all, even though he was the person who (also accidentally) exposed Jackson in the performance. It's certainly a noteworthy wardrobe malfunction, but one that we wish had never happened. This moment was such a cultural milestone that every single performer who performed at Halftime Shows over the years suddenly had to adhere to a new policy of wearing adhesives that would make sure their breasts were not exposed under any circumstances.

Don't let Young Thug find out 'you gay' after group sex
Young Thug shared his thoughts on the gay community during an appearance on recent episode of a podcast called Perspektives with Bank. The Atlanta rapper found a way to tie his feelings about Gunna, a rapper signed to his YSL Records label, who took a plea deal in the high-profile racketeering case against Thug's label. Because of this, Gunna has been labeled a "rat" by other rappers and Thug felt betrayed by the rapper's decision to take the deal. (@) During Thug's most recent podcast appearance, he likened Gunna's actions to being gay. "I feel like once you break a rule from your manhood, once you rat or once you turn gay," the rapper said as he repeatedly stated that he doesn't have an issue with gay people and that he has queer employees. "If I look at you, if I meet you and you gay, its like, Okay. If I meet you and you portraying that you a man and youre not gay I dont got nothing against gay people. You know what Im saying? If youre portraying a certain thingThug then goes on to continue saying, "I cant look at you the same," and attempts to explain his thought process by saying that he takes issue with deception. I hate that I even brought it up, because I dont even want the LGTB, I dont even want that community to even think Im against them. Im overly with yall for it," he said. The rapper tries to triple down on his explanation and said that if he were having a threesome with a guy and he came out as gay, he would be upset. "If I look at you like a man and we fucking bitches together, girls together, and we doing certain shit together, Im looking at you in a man light, he continued. "Then I find out you gay, it aint really nothing you can say to me. Imma just look at you like you broke a man code. This is not the first time the rapper has made controversial comments about the queer community. Back in 2020, he deliberately misgendered Dwayne Wade's daughter, Zaya, in a since-deleted tweet and said, "All I wanna say to Dwaynes son is: God dont make mistakes,'" adding, "But, hey, live your true self.

The Hidden Benefits of Early Legal Representation After an Accident
Many accident victims delay hiring attorneys, hoping to handle insurance claims themselves while avoiding legal fees and maintaining control over their cases. This DIY approach seems logical when injuries appear minor and insurance adjusters sound helpful during initial conversations about settlements and medical coverage. But early legal representation changes case outcomes in ways that most people dont realize until its too late to recover from self-inflicted damage. The first few days and weeks after accidents are critical for evidence preservation, strategic positioning, and avoiding mistakes that permanently weaken cases.Understanding these hidden advantages helps accident victims recognize why immediate legal consultation protects their interests even when cases seem straightforward. The benefits extend far beyond just having a lawyer to include specific strategic advantages that can only be achieved through prompt professional intervention.Preserving Evidence Before It DisappearsPhysical evidence from accident scenes deteriorates rapidly through weather, traffic, and cleanup efforts that eliminate crucial proof within hours or days of incidents. Skid marks fade, debris gets swept away, and property damage gets repaired before attorneys can document evidence that might prove liability or damages.Witness memories deteriorate quickly, especially for traumatic events that people naturally want to forget or minimize. Early legal representation means professional investigators can interview witnesses while their recollections are fresh and accurate rather than waiting weeks when details become unclear or conflicting.Security camera footage gets overwritten or deleted on regular schedules that dont wait for legal action to begin. Attorneys know which businesses, traffic systems, and surveillance networks might have captured accident footage and can request preservation before routine deletion cycles eliminate crucial evidence.Medical documentation becomes more accurate and comprehensive when attorneys help coordinate treatment and ensure that healthcare providers properly document accident-related injuries. This guidance helps establish clear connections between accidents and medical treatment that insurance companies cant dispute later.Controlling Communication With InsurersInsurance adjuster tactics become less effective when attorneys handle all communications and prevent accident victims from making statements that can be twisted to minimize settlements. Adjusters are trained to elicit admissions of fault or minimizations of injury that theyll use against claimants later.Recorded statements required by insurance companies often contain traps and leading questions designed to create problems for claims rather than gather factual information. Attorneys can prepare clients for these statements or handle them entirely to prevent damaging admissions.Settlement pressure from insurance companies intensifies when they deal directly with unrepresented accident victims who dont understand claim values or negotiation tactics. Early legal representation eliminates this pressure and ensures that settlement discussions happen at appropriate times with proper valuations.Documentation requirements become clearer when attorneys guide the claims process from the beginning, ensuring that medical bills, lost wage statements, and other damage evidence gets collected and presented effectively rather than hoping insurance companies will be fair.Avoiding Costly Mistakes in Statements or DocumentsSocial media monitoring becomes crucial because insurance companies routinely investigate claimants online activities looking for evidence that contradicts injury claims. Attorneys can advise clients about social media risks and help them avoid posting content that undermines their cases.Medical treatment decisions benefit from legal guidance about which providers to see, what treatments to pursue, and how to document ongoing problems that affect settlement values. Gaps in treatment or wrong provider choices can seriously damage claims.Settlement releases and legal documents require careful review because insurance companies often include language that waives rights beyond the immediate claim. Unrepresented victims might sign agreements that prevent future claims or limit their legal options unnecessarily.Return-to-work timing affects disability claims and settlement valuations in ways that accident victims dont understand without legal guidance. Returning to work too early or in the wrong capacity can undermine claims for lost wages and ongoing limitations.Setting the Tone for Stronger NegotiationsProfessional representation signals to insurance companies that claims will be handled competently and aggressively rather than hoping for quick, easy settlements from uninformed victims. This perception immediately changes how adjusters approach cases and calculate settlement offers.Investigation quality improves when attorneys begin building cases from day one rather than reacting to insurance company positions weeks or months later. Proactive case development usually produces better evidence and stronger negotiation positions than reactive approaches.Legal expertise about claim valuations helps establish appropriate settlement ranges from the beginning rather than accepting whatever insurance companies initially offer. Most unrepresented victims have no idea what their cases are actually worth and accept inadequate compensation.Trial preparedness even in cases likely to settle gives attorneys leverage during negotiations because insurance companies know that competent representation means credible trial threats. This leverage often produces significantly better settlement offers than claims handled by unrepresented victims.ConclusionEarly legal representation provides strategic advantages that extend far beyond basic legal advice to include evidence preservation, communication control, and mistake prevention that protect case values from day one. These benefits often justify legal fees through improved settlement outcomes. The first few weeks after accidents are critical for establishing strong legal positions that determine final case outcomes months or years later. Victims who delay legal consultation often discover that crucial evidence has disappeared and strategic opportunities have been lost forever.Smart accident victims understand that early legal help isnt just convenientit protects case value and prevents mistakes that are impossible to fix later. The Physics Behind Jackknife Truck Accidents Explained Simply
The basic physics behind jackknifing involves momentum, friction, and the articulated design of tractor-trailers that creates unique stability challenges not found in regular passenger vehicles. When these forces get out of balance, trucks can fold at their connection point like a closing pocket knife.Jackknife truck crashes often sound confusing to people who dont understand the physics involved, but simple mechanical principles explain why these dangerous accidents happen and how they can be prevented. Understanding these forces helps both truck drivers and car drivers recognize dangerous situations before they become catastrophic.Knowledge of jackknife mechanics aids both accident prevention and legal accountability by helping people understand when driver error versus unavoidable circumstances cause these crashes. Smart drivers learn to recognize conditions that increase jackknife risks and adjust their behavior accordingly. What Jackknifing Means in TruckingJackknifing occurs when a trucks trailer swings sideways relative to the tractor, creating an angle between the two sections that resembles a folding pocket knife in the open position. This articulation happens when the trailers momentum overcomes the tractors ability to maintain directional control during braking or turning. The fifth wheel connection between tractor and trailer allows necessary pivoting for normal turning but becomes a vulnerability point when forces exceed the systems stability limits. This design trades maneuverability for potential instability that must be managed through proper driving techniques and mechanical systems.Trailer swing typically starts with small deviations that amplify rapidly once the process begins, making jackknife prevention much easier than jackknife recovery. Drivers have only seconds to recognize and correct developing jackknife situations before they become uncontrollable. The folding motion continues until either the tractor and trailer reach a perpendicular position or external forces stop the rotation through impact with barriers, other vehicles, or when the truck comes to rest. These accidents often span multiple traffic lanes and create massive hazards for surrounding vehicles. The Role of Momentum and BrakingHeavy trailers carry enormous momentum that resists changes in direction or speed, creating forces that can overwhelm tractor control during emergency braking situations. This momentum difference between loaded and empty trailers significantly affects jackknife risk and requires different driving approaches.Brake timing becomes critical because applying trailer brakes too aggressively relative to tractor brakes can push the trailer sideways when wheels lock up. Modern anti-lock braking systems help prevent this scenario, but older trucks or maintenance problems can create dangerous brake imbalances.Weight distribution affects how momentum transfers between tractor and trailer during braking, with improperly loaded or shifting cargo creating unpredictable dynamics that increase jackknife risks. Front-heavy or rear-heavy loads change the physics in ways that drivers might not anticipate.Emergency braking scenarios test the limits of tractor-trailer stability, particularly when drivers panic and apply maximum braking force without considering the complex dynamics of articulated vehicles. Gradual, controlled braking usually prevents jackknifing better than sudden maximum effort.Road Conditions That Amplify RiskSlippery surfaces from rain, ice, or oil spills dramatically reduce tire friction that trucks depend on for directional stability during braking and turning maneuvers. These conditions can turn routine driving situations into jackknife emergencies with little warning for unprepared drivers.Downhill grades increase trailer momentum while reducing braking effectiveness, creating perfect conditions for jackknife accidents when drivers dont adjust their speed and braking techniques for the terrain. Steep descents require special driving techniques that many drivers havent mastered.Uneven road surfaces or potholes can upset truck stability by affecting individual wheel traction in ways that create sudden directional changes. Construction zones with lane shifts and irregular surfaces present particular challenges for maintaining tractor-trailer alignment.Crosswinds can push trailers sideways and initiate jackknife motion, especially with empty or lightly loaded trailers that are more susceptible to wind forces. High-profile trailers act like sails that catch wind and create side forces that drivers must constantly counter. Why Speed and Load Weight Matter MostExcessive speed multiplies all other risk factors by increasing momentum, reducing reaction time, and amplifying the forces involved in jackknife scenarios. Speed limits for trucks often reflect these physics limitations rather than just traffic management concerns.Empty trailers paradoxically increase jackknife risks because reduced weight means less tire contact pressure and friction for maintaining directional control. Many drivers incorrectly assume that lighter loads are always safer when the opposite is often true for jackknife prevention.Cargo weight distribution creates different center of gravity locations that affect how trucks respond to steering and braking inputs. Improperly distributed loads can make trucks unstable in ways that arent obvious until emergency maneuvers reveal the problems.Load securement failures can cause sudden weight shifts that initiate jackknife motion without any driver error or external road hazards. Properly secured cargo maintains predictable truck dynamics while loose cargo creates dangerous instability that can surprise experienced drivers.ConclusionJackknife accidents result from predictable physics principles that drivers can learn to recognize and manage through proper training and technique. Understanding these forces helps prevent accidents while providing insight into why some crashes occur despite careful driving. The key to prevention lies in respecting the physics limitations of tractor-trailer combinations rather than fighting against them through aggressive driving or inadequate preparation for challenging conditions. Professional drivers learn to work with these forces rather than against them. When jackknife physics are understood and respected through appropriate driving techniques, load management, and equipment maintenance, these dangerous accidents become largely preventable rather than random occurrences. Education and awareness transform complex physics into practical safety knowledge that saves lives. The post The Physics Behind Jackknife Truck Accidents Explained Simply appeared first on LGBTQ and ALL.

How to Plan a Safe Living Space Upgrade
Improving a living space can be a great way to inject it with new life and personality. Maybe you want a more comfortable vibe at home, or perhaps youre updating a rental. In any upgrade situation, youll make positive improvements that help your property value and state of mind. At the same time, however, you dont want to overlook the importance of safety and planning when youre doing any sort of physical upgrade to a room or home.Read on to learn the best tips to ensure a safe living space upgrade.Plan Your Changes FirstIts always wise to outline your intended changes before heading to the hardware store or reaching out to a contractor. Specify the upgrades you want in a written document called a project brief. Maybe youve always wanted better treatments in your living room. Or maybe its time to introduce new, updated flooring in a bedroom. Whatever your goals are, having them clearly written can help guide decisions about materials and even your budget.Select the Right ContractorsYou may not be able to tackle your upgrade as a DIY project. If youre working with a handyperson or hiring a contractor, be sure to do your research first. They should respect your wishes for upgrades, be affirming, and work with you to choose materials that meet your needs and budget. Also, make sure to choose someone who communicates well. You dont want to be unclear about a projects progress because the contractor in charge neglects to tell you.Gather QuotesWhen you need to hire a contractor, dont go with the first person you meet or see online. Its better to get a few quotes from reputable contractors to compare. Understand what is included and assess the materials for the job. And ask if there is a warranty or guarantee for the quality of the work. Consider how a potential contractor handles payments. If they use a contractor invoicing app, that can make it easier to know what your charges are and track payments. Youll end up with a digital record of costs connected to your project.Plan Ahead to Avoid DisruptionsRenovation projects come with dust, debris, and noise. Thats why its so important to make arrangements to accommodate the messes ahead of time. Whether that means relocating your jewelry collection or creating a makeshift cook space somewhere else in your home, thats what is necessary. You may need to invest in noise-canceling headphones or find a new place to do a remote job. Just know that the headache is temporary, and the result will be worthwhile.Make Your Space BetterUpgrading a space in your home can be rewarding. Best of all, you dont need to make sweeping changes to see an improvement in the place you call home. From painting walls to retiling a backsplash, youll bring new life to your space with even modest changes. Set a budget, choose the right contractors, and plan for temporary disruptions. When the dust settles, youll be able to enjoy your new space! The post How to Plan a Safe Living Space Upgrade appeared first on LGBTQ and ALL.

The problem is that Lucas is himself gay and closeted, and finds himself falling for one of the men he was supposed to target. That man is Andrew, a pastor, a father, and a man old enough to be Lucas's dad, played by Looking star Russell Tovey. The role has allowed Tovey to embrace his aging in a new way, he tells Out."Yeah, I embrace Daddy," Tovey says. "I mean, Pedro Pascal says, 'Daddy is a state of mind,' but also I think realistically, I'm a dad age, so state of mind and state of play."I've been doing this [acting] for years. I think we sort of transition into all these other roles, and now Ive got children on-screen children, not off-screen, [that] I know of," he laughs. It's one of Tovey's most powerful performances of his career. Filmmaker Carmen Emmi says that while writing the role of Andrew, he "was always subconsciously" writing it for Tovey. When Blyth joined the film and suggested Tovey for the role, Emmi knew it was "one of those universe moments" when everything fell into place. In the interview, Blyth reveals that he had a "massive talent crush" on Tovey before they worked together, which made playing his lover a lot easier."I'd had a massive talent crush on Russell for years, and that was part of why, when Carmen said, 'Who do you imagine playing Andrew?' And I was like, 'Russell Tovey,'' he says. "I met Russell, [and] I just converted it into an on-screen real crush, I think."Plainclothes opens in theaters on September 19. Read our review here. Lux Pascal recalls the significance of Pedro Pascal first calling her 'my little sister'
For a trans person, being seen for who you are by someone close to you can be life-changing.That's what actress Lux Pascal says happened when her brother, The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, first saw her as his little sister. In a new piece for Elle, the Emmy-nominated actor who's rumored to be starring in Todd Haynes' new gay romance interviews his sister ahead of the release of her upcoming feature, Netflix's Miss Carbn. The film, which marks Lux's first starring role, is a biopic about Carlita Antonella Rodrguez, who became the first woman coal miner in her hometown of Ro Turbio, Argentina. In the interview, Lux says that her older brother, who stayed in New York to pursue acting after the family moved back to Chile, would bring her movies and CDs from U.S., which helped shape her into the actor she is today. She also says that his early encouragement with her gender journey helped shape her into the woman she is today."Not only did you give me artistic tools, but I remember thinking that if there was anyone in the family who knew who I was before the rest of the people did, I just knew that you knew," Lux says to her brother during the conversation. "Even the play that you wrote [Flaca Loves Bone, about a trans heroine and a young man who fall in love], I weirdly feel like I was connected to it before I knew." Continuing the train of thought, she adds, "I remember I was 16 or something and, for the first time, I was going out with this man who was a lot older than me, and I remember you were looking at me and you told me, because you were afraid, and it was just a little fling, but you were like, 'Uh, yeah, it's because you're my little sister.' I don't know if you even remember that moment, but it was just so affirming for me to be like, Yeah, he knows. He knows who I am. You were treating me like your little sister from the very beginning.""Well, you, in my imagination, are my muse," Pedro replies, to which his sister reacts with surprise. "Yeah, for so long," he says, citing Flaca Loves Bone, which he wrote in 2009, as "such early evidence" for the inspiration he took from sister. "When I'm building things in my imagination, I see you before I see myself."Miss Carbn is already out in Spain and is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
