Hello Out readers!Lesbians have had quite the summer, and I'm not just talking about the Republican party trying to overturn same-sex marriage! This summer, major queer pop stars, including JoJo Siwa, Fletcher, and most recently, Betty Who, have all made public comments that rubbed their lesbian fans the wrong way. Now, Rene Rapp has replied.During Lesbian Visibility Week in April, Celebrity Big Brother UK star JoJo Siwa came out as queer after previously identifying as a lesbian. Unfortunately, she did so by shouting, "I'm switching letters! F**k the 'L,' I'm going to the 'Q!'"Siwa later expanded, saying she felt pressured to identify as a lesbian, and that the pressure, "came a little bit from inside the community at times."Then, during Pride Month, sapphic singer Fletcher announced that she was in love with a "Boy" in a new song that sounded to many like an apology and a self-fulfilling prophecy that her lesbian fans would be upset. In August, bisexual singer Betty Who joined the fray, saying that the "alphabet mafia" has decided that it's practically "a crime to be straight." She then brought up proud lesbian pop star Rapp.Who said she was happy for Rapp and her lesbian identity, but she will "also hold space for her if, in 10 years, she goes, 'Oops, I met the love of my life and it's this man, and I didn't mean to.' That's okay. It shouldn't be illegal for you to fall in love."Who has since apologized, saying that she "poorly articulated my experience and unintentionally reinforced ideas that were harmful or dismissive, particularly toward the lesbian community."Now, in a Cosmopolitan UK digital cover story, Rapp has responded."I mean, it's just very similar to the whole, 'She hasn't found the right man.' It's incredibly similar, let's be so clear," the singer said. "I'm just like, 'What the fuck? What makes you think I'm gonna end up with a man?' Also, how about don't talk about me when it comes to a man? I'm very publicly in a very loving relationship with a woman. So I'm not really sure what about that is so blurry.""I'm always confused whenever people try to do that to other people. Just focus on yourself. Just literally focus on yourself. Don't bring my big fucking lesbian name into your mouth and into this drama," she added.Keep reading to find out all the best pop culture news and this week's Gayest Song!- Mey RudeJonathan Bailey is taking a break from acting here's what we knowRene Rapp to Betty Who: 'Don't bring my big f**ing lesbian name' into 'this drama'What is 'G,' the party drug popular on the gay scene?
