WWW.OUT.COMCorey O'Brien spills details about dating bisexual NFL star Ryan RussellComedian Corey O'Brien is opening up about his journey to sobriety, his comedy tour, and his relationship with the NFL's first out bisexual player.O'Brien, 34, has over 2 million followers on TikTok and Instagram and is taking his comedy show on a tour through conservative states on the Red Tour."There are people that are queer living in these red states people that won't or can't leave," he tells People. "I'm really doing it for them, because I feel like going into these places and being my authentic self is a sign of resistance and rebellion."In the interview, O'Brien also opens up about what it's been like dating Ryan Russell, a former NFL player, who in 2019 became the first player in the league to come out as bisexual. The couple initially met on Tinder. At the time, Russell was recovering from an injury and looking to sign with a new team.O'Brien says that as they got to know each other better, they "both knew early on that it was going to be something." However, he didn't quite understand what Russell did for a living."When he told me he played football, I was like, 'Cute.' I thought it was the league on Sundays here in West Hollywood, where all of the gay people get together and they throw. I didn't know sh*t," he says.O'Brien feared that if Russell did sign with a new team, that would mean the end of their relationship. "I bawled my eyes out," he says.Instead, Russell didn't make a team and decided to come out publicly."I had to be really strategic with staying off my phone and not reading comments," he says. "It felt like unnecessary pressure."Thankfully, the "whirlwind" settled down, and now, the couple has been attending NFL events together. Now, O'Brien is ready to continue to bring his comedy to red states."I don't see this tour ending anytime soon," he says. "And I see a special in the near future."0 Comments 0 Shares 114 Views 0 Reviews -

WWW.OUT.COMCharlie Kirk's close friend says he would have wanted 'South Park' episode back upShortly after Charlie Kirk was shot during a talk at a Utah university earlier this month, Comedy Central made the decision to take down an episode of South Park featuring the right-wing commentator. Now, Andrew Kolvet one of the executive producers for The Charlie Kirk Show and a close friend of Kirk is saying that the late political influencer enjoyed the episode and would have wanted the network to continue airing it. (@) On Wednesday, Kolvet uploaded a post to X that read, "As someone who can speak with some authority on this, Charlie loved that he was featured in South Park. He told me many times. He would want the episode back up."Kirk himself spoke about seeing a clip of the episode in a video for Fox News Digital earlier this year. "Honestly, my first reaction was that I kinda laughed," the controversial figure said, adding that he used to watch South Park in high school and, even without seeing the full episode, he considered it a source of pride. "It's kinda funny, and it kinda goes to show the cultural impact and the resonance that our movement has been able to achieve. So I look at this as a badge of honor."He added, "We as conservatives need to be able to take a joke. We shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. That's something that the left has always done, to great detriment to themselves and the movement. And look, again, they're professional comedians, and they're probably going to roast me, and I think that's fine. That's what it's all about, being in public life and making a difference."In the days following Kirk's death, several public figures have faced repercussions for portraying the political activist in an irreverent or critical light. And on Wednesday, comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who referenced Kirk and the MAGA movement on his late-night show, faced perhaps the most surprising punishment yet. In the evening, ABC abruptly announced that they would be pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air.0 Comments 0 Shares 109 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMKamala Harris reveals why fear of backlash kept her from selecting Pete Buttigieg as running mate in 2024Kamala Harris says the running mate she most wanted in 2024 was Pete Buttigieg. But in her new memoir 107 Days, the former vice president concedes that the idea of putting a Black woman and an out gay man on the same ticket was, in her words, too big of a risk.Related: Kamala Harris: Our One-on-One With the Vice PresidentI love Pete, Harris writes in an excerpt obtained by The Atlantic. I love working with Pete. He and his husband, Chasten, are friends. But we were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man. Part of me wanted to say, Screw it, lets just do it. But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk. And I think Pete also knew thatto our mutual sadness.Harris instead tapped Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who brought Midwestern pragmatism to the ticket. The choice made strategic sense to her campaign, though the Harris-Walz ticket ultimately lost to Donald Trump and JD Vance.A candid calculationThe memoir, which is set to be released on Tuesday, offers a rare, unvarnished glimpse into the political calculus behind one of the most consequential decisions of Harriss career. Buttigieg, Harris notes, would have been an ideal partnerif I were a straight white man. Her words reflect the enduring tension in Democratic politics between pushing the boundaries of representation and fearing voter backlash.Related: Pete Buttigieg excited about Tim Walz as Kamala Harriss VP pickButtigiegs appeal was obvious. A Rhodes Scholar, former naval intelligence officer, and the first out gay Cabinet member confirmed by the Senate in U.S. history, he had already proven himself one of the partys most effective communicators. As secretary of transportation, he weathered airline meltdowns while still maintaining a national profile. And during the campaign, he was willing to face skeptical audiences on conservative outlets, offering Democrats a messenger who could cross divides.Yet Harris concluded the barriers were too high. Allies hoped Buttigieg might energize younger voters and underscore a generational contrast with Trump, but Harris feared Americans werent ready to elect such a ticket. Harris has been a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community for years, performing some of the first same-sex weddings in California more than 20 years ago. She told The Advocate in a 2023 interview that the experience of seeing the joy shared by gay and lesbian couples has remained with her.Walzs record on LGBTQ+ rightsWalz, for his part, came with a rsum rooted in both progressive policy and Middle America. As The Advocate reported at the time, his long history with LGBTQ+ issues included advising a high school gay-straight alliance, backing marriage equality during his 2006 congressional run, and working in Congress to repeal dont ask, dont tell. As governor, he moved to protect gender-affirming care and expanded state-level protections for LGBTQ+ people.Related: Minnesota governor Tim Walz selected as Kamala Harriss running mate; heres his LGBTQ+ recordThat record made him a reassuring figure for progressives even as Harris weighed the risks of picking Buttigieg. And when Harris ultimately announced Walz as her choice, Buttigieg was publicly gracious, saying he was really excited about the ticket and drawing a sharp contrast with Vance, the Republicans choice. The partys unfinished debateHarriss reflections arrive as Democrats continue to wrestle with whether emphasizing firsts has cost them in recent elections. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons historic candidacy fell short in 2016, and Harris herself lost eight years later. Trumps team leaned into culture war themes, and one ad highlighting Harriss defense of transgender rights was credited by pollsters with helping him chip away at key blocs of Black and Latino men.By publishing her account, Harris reopens that debate inside a party already preparing for 2028. Walz has announced a third-term bid for governor. Buttigieg, who is raising his young twins with his husband in Michigan, remains one of the most prominent voices in the party, often floated as a future contender. And Harris, while telling confidants she may not run again, has left the door ajar.0 Comments 0 Shares 109 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMJimmy Kimmels suspension sparks congressional investigationCalifornia U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Thursday he is opening an investigation into what he called corrupt schemes and threats designed to silence critics of President Donald Trump. His announcement came after ABC abruptly pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air in response to pressure from Trump allies and the Federal Communications Commission.Related: In canceling Jimmy Kimmel, Trumps censorship regime guts free speechEvery American has a duty to stand up for our First Amendment values, Garcia said. We will not be silent as our freedoms are threatened by corrupt schemes and threats. Anyone who is complicit will need to answer to us.The networks decision followed Kimmels Monday monologue, which took direct aim at the presidents reaction to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it, Kimmel told his audience. His words were valid. Online, people on the right falsely blamed a Seattle paralegal who is transgender for the shooting. Right-wing media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, amplified unverified claims trying to tie the assassination to the trans community almost immediately.Related: Wall Street Journal quietly walks back false claim Charlie Kirk shooter had pro-trans messages on his bulletsKimmel went on to play a clip of Trump answering a reporters question about Kirks death by pivoting almost immediately to touting the construction of a new White House ballroom. Hes at the fourth stage of grief construction, Kimmel said. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish. The quips drew outrage on the right. FCC Chair Brendan Carr accused Kimmel of lying to the American public and suggested the commission could take regulatory action against ABC. We can do this the easy way or the hard way, Carr said on a podcast hosted by far-right commentator Benny Johnson, in remarks that carried unmistakable menace. Hours later, Disney chief executive Robert Iger and television chief Dana Walden decided to pull Kimmels show indefinitely, the New York Times reports.Related: Right-wing firebrand Charlie Kirk dead after shooting at university in UtahThe sequence of events amounts to a chilling exertion of political pressure on a major broadcast network a move critics say undermines the very notion of a free press and the First Amendment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the suspension despicable, disgusting, and against democratic values, comparing it to tactics used by autocratic governments, according to a Senate transcript of Schumers appearance on CNN. Trump, traveling in Britain, posted on social media that the development was Great News for America. After Carrs threat, affiliate owners quickly fell in line. Nexstar Media Group, which is pursuing a $6.2 billion merger under FCC review, announced it would pre-empt Kimmel for the foreseeable future. Sinclair Broadcast Group, which espouses conservative values, soon followed, demanding an apology to Kirks family and a donation to Turning Point USA. Carr praised both companies, urging other broadcasters to adopt similar measures.Related: No, this transgender woman is not the Charlie Kirk assassinThe episode comes against a backdrop of escalating entanglements between the administration and the media industry. CBS recently canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as its parent company sought federal approval for a major merger. Trump has sued multiple outlets, including ABC which paid $16 million to settle a case and The New York Times, which he targeted again this week.0 Comments 0 Shares 111 Views 0 Reviews -

WWW.OUT.COMChord Overstreet claims he shot an unreleased full-frontal 'Playgirl' shoot during 'Glee'Chord Overstreet has shocked fans by revealing that a once-speculated Playgirl spread might exist after all.Back in 2010, Playgirl made its desire to land one of the "Glee hunks" publicly known, at least partly as a response to the racy GQ spread of Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, and Cory Monteith that caused such a puritanical stir. Overstreet was the first named by an anonymous rep who told E! News they'd be willing to pay him $100,000 "and he doesn't even have to take it all off," they said. The topic recently came up during an episode of Celebrity Weakest Link that reunited Overstreet and several other Glee cast members, including host Jane Lynch. Lynch brought up Overstreet touring with Glee back in its heyday before drawing attention to a more scandalous topic."You got a $100,000 offer at that time, Chord," she said. "What was that for?""I got asked to do a full-frontal spread in Playgirl," he admitted. Although it was public knowledge at the time, it was obvious his cast mates were shocked by the news and, in fact, even delighted by it. But Overstreet wasn't finished with his revelations.""We shot it," he continued. "And the images were so"Several of his former Glee cast mates immediately jumped in to ask whether he was confirming he actually did the shoot, and he admitted he was."I pocketed the money and it was the biggest issue that they had ever had," he said. "Preorders, pre-sales, and then my publicist pulled it off the rack. So that it's out there somewhere." (@) The veracity of Overstreet's claims is unclear. There doesn't seem to be a record of Playgirl offering a preorder of an issue explicitly featuring him, and a Playgirl rep actually told E! News that "we couldn't work it out.""Chord's people decided against it," they claimed.Still, if there's any chance Overstreet is telling the truth about having done a full-frontal shoot for, uh, someone, I guess, who paid him $100,000 but never released the photos, the people are already clamoring to see the results. (@) "WHY AM I NOT STILL SEEING THE PLAYGIRL SPREADS OF CHORD OVERSTREET???" (@) "Thats wild, imagine the chaos if that Playgirl spread actually dropped. His publicist probably saved the internet from breaking that day." (@) "I wonder which will get released first: the Epstein files or the Playgirl photos of Chord Overstreet. I know which one I'm hoping for... @chordoverstreet release those photo."Lynch is obviously clearly in support of capable sleuths finding a way to those pics herself, joking, "America, I'm giving you a task. This is your mission, should you choose to accept it. Find those Playgirls."0 Comments 0 Shares 112 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMKevin McHale responds to bizarre X exchange with FCC head over Jimmy Kimmel newsGlee star Kevin McHale is sharing a bizarre interaction he had with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr on social media.Following last week's shooting of far-right speaker Charlie Kirk, many public figures spoke out including, now famously, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. In his Monday monologue, Kimmel said: "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it."He also showed a video of Donald Trump being asked how he was holding up after his friend's murder, with Trump responding by talking about White House construction. "This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend," the comedian said. "This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."After the comments, Carr threatened to act against ABC and Disney, and ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air indefinitely. (@) Following the announcement of Kimmel's suspension, McHale posted about the news on X, saying, "This was all in Project 2025, btw." Carr then replied to McHale's post with a GIF of Jack Nicholson vigorously nodding and smiling in the movie Anger Management."The head of the FCC seems like a totally normal guy," McHale said in a follow-up post on Thursday. "Thanks for confirming what we already knew."In an exclusive written statement for Out, McHale reflected on the interaction and what it says about the state of the U.S. "Were in fascism now. Full stop. Not hyperbole," the actor said. "It's surreal how fast and smooth its all happening, but a cornerstone of Fascism is to overwhelm. They hide it behind memes and gifs and podcasters so it feels like a joke, but its incredibly serious and terrifying."He added, "Everyone needs to decide where they stand how would you have responded in early 1930s Germany? Because this is that moment." (@) This follows an incident that occurred between Carr and CNN chief media analyst Brian Stelter. On September 17, Stelter wrote on X that he asked Carr "if he had any new comment now that ABC has pulled Jimmy Kimmel's show," revealing that Carr responded with a GIF from The Office of two characters doing a celebratory "raise the roof" motion.Carr was named as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission by President Trump in November, after spending almost a decade as a commissioner for the agency. He also wrote the chapter on the regulatory agency in Project 2025, a political blueprint created by far-right politicians and activists that lays out what they want from a president. On Benny Johnson's podcast, The Benny Show, Carr said that Kimmel's comments are "a very, very serious issue right now for Disney.""We can do this the easy way or the hard way," he said, according to AP News. "These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead."0 Comments 0 Shares 118 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMKristin Chenoweth responds to outrage over Charlie Kirk commentsKristin Chenoweth sparked some big reactions from her followers last week after she responded to the killing of the conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk. Shortly after he was pronounced dead, Chenoweth left a comment on Kirk's last Instagram post saying, "Im. So. Upset. Didnt always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still." See on Instagram In a new interview with Spectrum News' New York 1, Chenoweth sat down with On Stage host Frank DiLella, who asked her about the backlash she received, especially from the LGBTQ+ community, for her comments regarding Kirk. She smiled and wiped away tears, apologizing for getting emotional, and then said, "I saw what happened online with my own eyes. And I had a human moment of reflection, just right then. I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me so bad. I would never..."She added, "It's no secret that I have been...that I'm a Christian, that I'm a person of faith. It's also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. And for some, that doesn't go together. But for me, it always has, and it always will."Chenoweth is gearing up for a stint in the new Broadway show The Queen of Versailles, based on the 2012 documentary of the same name. The documentary followed Jackie Siegel, a former beauty queen who married a billionaire and wants to build a home in Florida modeled after the Palace of Versailles. The show will feature music from Wicked composer, Stephen Schwartz, who is also serving as a producer. The Queen of Versailles will mark Chenoweth's first headlining role in a musical since her run in On the Twentieth Century back in 2015. WWW.OUT.COMCaleb Hearon's job is comedyand calling out 'right-wing fascist freaks'It's a bit tough to pin Caleb Hearon down, but that's expected now that he's become one of the most booked comedians in the business sold-out tours, multiple movie deals, and a popular podcast that releases new episodes weekly. It's no wonder he sounds like he's on the move during our conversation. He answers the phone from what sounds like a stairwell, and we lock in to discuss his debut comedy special, Model Comedian, which just debuted on HBO Max.The conversation takes place a few days after MrBeast (whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson) took issue with Hearon's placement on Rolling Stone's Top 25 Most Influential Creators list. The influencer's post, which seemed to be a joke, didn't land well with the general social media public, and people immediately rallied behind Hearon. At the end of the day, Hearon posted a photo of himself on the phone and said that he and Donaldson had engaged in "peace talks." The two did indeed get on the phone, and MrBeast did apologize to Hearon, but the comedian didn't see it as an issue from the get-go and told him, "Dude, I thought it was funny. I didn't think you were wrong; it made me laugh."Hearon is no stranger to grabbing an audience's attention after putting in almost a decade of work into his comedy career. After graduating from college, he moved to Chicago with a few members of his improv group, which is where he says his career in comedy took shape. This is the reason why he felt it was the right decision to film his debut special in Chicago, rather than his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. "I really went back and forth on whether I wanted to film in New York, where I had some of my most fun and formative shows over the years, or Kansas City, where I did my first open mic ever," Hearon explained. "I decided on Chicago because I moved there right after I graduated from college to start comedy. I think I found my voice in Missouri, but I figured out my comedic voice and how to use it in Chicago." Caleb Hearon: Model ComedianEmilio Madrid/HBOSpeaking of voices, he also found his social media voice in 2019, on X (formerly known as Twitter). At the time, he would upload comedic skits that would reach hundreds of thousands of people. Then, as TikTok started becoming the dominant platform, he began posting the skits there as well, which routinely took off and went viral. He launched his podcast, So True, in 2024 and has spawned several viral clips of him and his comedian friends effortlessly trading jokes or inviting one of his many famous friends on the show. Some guests include his close friends like Holmes, Drew Afualo, Brittany Broski, Chris Fleming, Ziwe, Josh Sharp, Ego Nwodim, and many more.As more people discover his comedy, arguably thanks to his podcast but primarily because of his sharpshooting comedic skills, he is becoming one to watch. The wide breadth of his comedic talent is on full display in his first-ever, hour-long comedy special. A large reason why Hearon has become so popular is his knack for comedy that almost always has a political message (but isn't preachy). Caleb Hearon: Model ComedianEmilio Madrid/HBOIn the special, a portion of the set is dedicated to why he thinks President Donald Trump and other conservative Republican politicians are "some of [his] favorite straight guys" because they "hate gay people so much and they're such faggots." When asked why he felt compelled to bring his politics to his debut special, the gay comedian says, "Because every day I feel fucking insane. These people in charge are liars, they're evil, and I'm not scared of these motherfuckers." The comedian continues, "These right-wing fascistic freaks that are trying to make a Christo-fascist government in the United States right now I see right through them. They're weak and pathetic.""I feel like, in the national conversation, there's a lack of normal people just telling the fucking truth," Hearon adds. He's also not afraid to get personal in his debut special, as he opens up about the death of his father during an emotional segment of the hour. He's had his mom on his podcast, and they talked about his upbringing at length, but he rarely spoke about his dad until this special. Hearon says he felt it was the right format because he and his late father had a very different relationship than the one he had with his mom. "My dad and I, as I get into it in the special, had a much more fraught and complicated relationship that required a lot more care, intention, and thought," he says. "We had time between me becoming an adult and him passing away, where we settled so many of our things, but we were in the midst of [doing] a lot of work" on their relationship. This relationship is explored even deeper in a film he is working on with Lily Wachowski called Trash Mountain, which is centered around Hearon's experience of his father's death and dealing with his hoarder house. "It's a classic indie movie about going home to deal with tragedy, but with our own little twist," he says. But this isn't the only project, Hearon has lined up.On top of this, he's got two more projects he's in the midst of filming for. We spoke the day before he filmed his scenes in The Devil Wears Prada 2, the long-awaited sequel to the classic 2006 film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep as well as a Netflix movie called Little Brother starring John Cena, Eric Andre, and Ego Nwodim. But for now, Hearon is balancing reaching new heights and "the weird parts of being perceived en masse," which he says was never really supposed to happen to human beings. He explains that he's able to do so because he is "not chasing being seen anywhere or in any type of way," adding, "I like to make people laugh, and I'm lucky that's my job."Model Comedian is now streaming on HBO Max. Watch the trailer below.0 Comments 0 Shares 108 Views 0 Reviews -

WWW.OUT.COMHow LGBTQ+ people can protect their mental health during dark political times, according to expertsWere living in dark times. Every time you turn on the TV or open social media, youre bombarded with terrible news that is often life-altering if youre queer. The Trump administration is busy dismantling LGBTQ+ rights and protections, attacking the trans community left and right, curtailing free speech, and, since they cant overturn Roe v. Wade again, theyre attempting to destroy almost $10 million worth of taxpayer-funded birth control. And every time a big event happens like Charlie Kirk being shot it always seems to circle back around to queer and trans people being to blame or it increases the attacks from politicians and your fellow Americans. Kirk spent his career demonizing LGBTQ+ people and other minorities, spreading misinformation about the trans community, and regularly spewed hate on his podcast, and yet the queer community has had to listen to Kirk being turned into a martyr while even celebrities who claim to be allies, cry over his death were looking at you Jamie Lee Curtis and Kristen Chenoweth. After years of slow progress being made to inch us closer to equality, the Republican Party and MAGA in particular has dismantled many LGBTQ+ protections and has plans to do even worse, which means that it can be a daunting task for queer and trans people to protect our mental health. So to find out how to preserve our sanity in the current political climate, and what steps we can take to feel better, PRIDE spoke with Nikki Huijun Li a therapist who specializes in LGBTQ+ patients, neurodivergence, Asian mental health, and polyamory/ethical non-monogamy and the founder of Kitchen Table Psychotherapy and Dr. Shana Thomas, a Black queer nonbinary licensed clinical social worker at Thomas Consulting and Therapeutic Services. Are queer and trans people currently experiencing greater negative impacts on their mental health and well-being?Things have never been easy for marginalized groups in this country, but the Trump administration has made it their mission to attack LGBTQ+ rights, protections, and even access to medical care. The current political climate and state of the world disproportionately affect queer and trans people's mental health and well-being, Huijun Li tells PRIDE.Dr. Thomas agrees, and says that there has been an uptick lately in terrible things happening, but oppression and discrimination have always existed. She cautions that trying to weigh which decade was worse is a fools errand because what is bad today, can be something worse tomorrow, and we will only know that if we actively work to stay alive and find out. I think we are past asking what and when has been worse; its always been bad. What trends are you seeing in LGBTQ+ clients mental health right now?The 24/7 news cycle and being hyper vigilant about your safety takes its toll, and both experts have noticed how the current political landscape is having a direct impact on their clients mental health. Huijun Lis clients are dealing with persistent anxiety, major depression, feelings of fear and dread, while Dr. Thomas says that people are dealing with constant worry, losing hope, fear, overwhelm, isolation becuase they are being impacted by the current political climate.I have even spoken to some of my clients who felt like they needed to go back into the closet in order to stay safe (some of that includes making decisions to limit healthcare, or even leaving their gender markers which dont align with their identity on their passports/ids/etc in order not to be clocked around their queerness or trans-ness), Dr. Thomas explains. What can be done to help protect their mental health and peace?According to Dr. Thomas, building a community is the key to protecting your peace and holding onto emotional and mental stability, but you may also need to enlist professional help and encourages LGBTQ+ people to work with aligned mental health and community professionals in order to have uninterrupted care but also to stay abreast of new or promising solutions to health and life issues that may be affected by the larger government system.Huijun Li says you also need to take time away from the stresses of the world and the 24 hour news cycle and spend time being silly with friends. Host bad art nights, zine workshops, outdoor dance parties, she recommends. Remind each there is good in the world and that is what is worth living for. What can do today, or even right now, to protect your mental well-being?Dr. Thomas tips:Lessen your social media intake!!! I like to tell my clients if there is something you NEEDED to know, someone will tell you, but the constant scrolling and keeping up with details is not safe or healthy long-term. Get some rest. We are on a 24/7 news cycle that is made to tire us out. This is all by designand if you choose to constantly engage in the rhetoricit will work. Dont feed the machine, invest in yourself. Find a supportive outlet: friends, journaling, running, making rugs, painting, learning a new skill; Create something! Feed yourself and your esteem with art and creativityHuijun Lis tips:Go on a walk. Bring your keys and leave your phone. Curate a playlist of songs that make you feel good. Identify a safety person/emergency contact for safety planning. What can you do for longer-term mental health protection?Dr. Thomas tips:The reality is that most people are using a vice right now to get by (weed, shrooms, alcohol, sex, food, etc.). Whatever it is, if it is impeding on your everyday care and functioning, its too much and losing its purpose. Use things in moderation. If they trust their doctor or care provider, or even a social worker, speak to them about a long-term plan of care, especially if they do not have insurance or funds for medication, needed surgeries, etc. The more people know, the better they can plan ahead for the crises on the horizon.Be aware that doomscrolling and watching constant images of death WILL desensitize you. You dont need to know all the details. You just need to know what to do to stay safe. Dont construe being informed with being obsessed. Listen to your body. Are you exhausted after learning violent information? Body numb? Hypervigilant? Get off the sites, and as people say, touch grass. Huijun Lis tips:Invest time and energy into community building. Learn to discern real danger vs fear based tactics. Seek help from a mental health professional and build a support relationship now instead of wait till you are in crisis. If someone is in active crisis, what advice can you share? When the world is overwhelming you and you feel like youre under constant threat of having your rights stripped away, its easy to isolate yourself, but according to Huijun Li, the best thing you can do is ask for help. Reach out to trusted individuals and organizations in your life. There are people who want to help you. Please give them the opportunity, they say.Dr. Thomas agrees, saying, Having at least one person in your corner, even if they are a mobile/online buddy, can save a life. He also encouraged people in crisis to know your local emergency crisis number, but I also understand that a these resources are connected, at times, to the system who are incriminating queer and trans folks, and said that reaching out to community based resources and putting together a safety plan and a safety team may save your life when things get really hard.LGBTQ+ crisis hotlinesThe Trevor ProjectThe Trevor Project Lifeline, for LGBTQ+ youth (ages 24 and younger), can be reached at (866) 488-7386. WWW.OUT.COMTefi Pessoa is ready for new heights with her show, 'Tefi Talks'Tefi Pessoa is a certified yapper. The influencer already wears many hats as a content creator: A celebrity gossip historian, a 365 party girl, and a fashion it-girl. Now, she's adding podcaster to her resume. While this isn't Pessoa's first time dabbling in the medium, she is trying a new format and putting her encyclopedic knowledge of celebrity culture to good use with a new show distributed by The Cut/Vox Media called Tefi Talks. Each week, she takes her over 2.3 million followers on a deep dive into the most pressing entertainment gossip of the week. As with all new shows, the early days are reserved for perfecting the format and experimenting with new ideas. For her first live show at The Cut cafe in Tribeca, Pessoa brought on her friend and fellow influencer, Remi Bader, for a live recording of the show. The influencer found an audience during her rise to viral fame, when she began posting her comprehensive analytical takes on celebrity news through short YouTube videos. That later turned into an interview-style show called This is My Super Bowl, where she invited a few of her famous friends to answer questions she had picked out of a bowl.Pessoa feels like she's finally found the format of a show that works best for her and, a month into releasing regular episodes, she's ready for what this new podcast could become. "I wanted it to be more in-depth with more support so I can really get into the nitty-gritty and make it fun," she tells Out. "I want their first season to be mainly me so that people get to know me," but as the show goes on, she wants her guests to be a part of the office-themed world she's building. @hellotefi #greenscreen #FleetwoodMac ##stevienickspart 1 On TikTok, Pessoa is known for her in-depth breakdowns of celebrity lore, where she educates her followers on some of the biggest and/or forgotten moments in Hollywood history. This could be a look at Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey's relationship or the turbulent years of Fleetwood Mac during the Rumors era. When making these videos, she worked with a researcher who she brought over with her to work on the podcast. When it comes to thinking about what the future of her show looks like, she said she wants to try it all. "I want to do little bits where we act out different scenarios like a scene where Britney Spears called Justin Timberlake to tell him she kissed Madonna at the VMAs," she continued. "I want to have a moment where celebrities come in to talk about pop culture moments we don't know about... at the end of the day, i want to deepen the lore." WWW.OUT.COMPedro Pascal claps back at critics with 'Yay Gay' fans are losing itPedro Pascal was one of many celebrities who supported Jimmy Kimmel after his late-night talk show was pulled from ABC for jokes related to Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump, and the MAGA movement, which angered conservative viewers and prompted local media conglomerates like Nexstar and Sinclair to issue official statements threatening the Disney-owned broadcast network. As his social media post started getting a flood of criticism, The Last of Us actor clapped back and doubled-down on his support. Eventually, Pascal wrote "Yay Gay" in the comments section and his queer fans, obviously, started losing their minds.Earlier this week, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended indefinitely by ABC after local media conglomerates like Nexstar and Sinclair filed official complaints regarding jokes that angered a more conservative crowd.Pascal who recently starred in Disney/Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps took a stance against the decision from ABC, a network that is also owned by Disney."Standing with you [Jimmy Kimmel Live!]," Pascal wrote in the caption, using a photo from the March 24 episode of the late-night talk show. "Defend #FreeSpeech. Defend #DEMOCRACY."See on InstagramThe fascination and curiosity around the "Yay Gay" comment is that, unlike other instances, Pascal didn't seem to be directly responding to anyone in particular. As seen below, the actor had been clapping back at comments like, "Shut up and act" with, "When you shut up and be jolly." He also replied to a more positive comment that read, "Can the haters stop commenting so that he can notice me? Lol love you baby." Pascal replied with an eyes emoji.Upon further inspection, one can find a few comments that have some homophobic undertones in them. One of those comments, "Cuz he likes [eggplant emoji]," tries to dismiss Pascal's sentiment by reasoning that "liking eggplants" is why the actor is supporting Kimmel As opposed to the hundreds of Hollywood A-listers who are also defending the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! since the talk show was indefinitely suspended.Still, "Yay Gay" which has more than 47,000 likes on Instagram doesn't seem to be written as a clapback to that particular comment nor to any other comment. Either way, Pascal's queer fans are absolutely losing their minds."CLOCK IT, PEDRO [clapping emoji]," "@pascalfanatic wrote on X (3.2 million views; 219,000 likes as of this writing). WWW.OUT.COMDemi Lovato says coming out as queer helped her embrace authenticityDemi Lovato is happy that she came out as queer when she did, noting that identifying as such has made it easier for her to connect with the queer community. In a recent interview with Paper magazine, the former Disney starlet turned pop star spoke about her connection to queer club culture. "I love going out with my friends," she said. "I love dancing, and I love doing that in queer spaces because it feels safe to me."The pansexual singer added, "If I were to go to a straight club, it just doesn't feel as safe. I feel there's more dangerI feel like when I go to a queer space, I know that I'm with my friends. I know I'll have a great time,"Lovato added that she's always felt safer in queer spaces because "queer people have a way of living so authentically that it makes me feel like I can live authentically." See on Instagram Lovato didn't stray away from talking about how she'd always longed for that sort of community and "having people around me that make me feel safe to be myself" as a young queer kid living in Texas. "I had a lot of religious shame around coming out, and I think that's because growing up in the Bible beltor maybe Texas isn't in the Bible belt, but you know what I mean. Same thing," the singer explained in the interview. "So now I get to go out, and I get to live authentically and be myself, and it feels amazing."Lovato then talked about how she's also doing this with her music. "I'm celebrating with my music, too, you know?" she added. "I went to a queer party and played 'Kiss.' It went really great. Im so happy with how everyone loved it."The singer is in the midst of a new era in her pop star career, which is a complete switch-up from her last full-length project, 2022's HOLY FVCK. Now, she's focusing on club-ready dance music, and fans got a taste of what's to come on her upcoming ninth studio album, It's Not That Deep, out on October 24, with the two lead singles, "Fast" and "Here All Night."0 Comments 0 Shares 130 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMSeptember 19, 2025Did Pedro Pascal just do what I think he did?The Last of Us star has never shied away from speaking his mind, and when it comes to the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, things are no different. After ABC suspended Kimmel for jokes he made about Donald Trump and the MAGA movement's reactions to Charlie Kirk's death, Pascal was quick to post a message of support on social media.Pascal shared a picture of himself and Kimmel, with the statement "Standing with you @jimmykimmellive Defend #FreeSpeech Defend #DEMOCRACY."But it's one of his comments on the post that's getting the most attention. After he put up the post, some people criticized him, telling him to stick to acting. WWW.OUT.COMThe 'Sleepaway Camp' remake might be the trans horror film the world needsSaturday Night Live stalwart Kenan Thompson is bringing back Sleepaway Camp for a new generation.Thompson's production company, AFA, has acquired the remake rights to the 1980s cult classic slasher film and has hired the original movie's writer and director, Robert Hiltzik, to helm the new version, Deadline reports. The original 1983 film focuses on a teen summer camp, where campers and staff start being brutally murdered. It's most remembered for its third-act twist, when shy girl Angela is revealed as the killer. Only it turns out that Angela is actually Peter, a young boy who was forced to live as a girl by his sadistic aunt after his father and sister died. The movie has been widely accused of employing transphobic tropes, with critics pointing to how it paints trans women as violent, portrays transness as a mental illness, and has an over-the-top, shocking reveal of a trans person's genitals. While teasing that there will be a new central character in the remake, Hiltzik told Deadline, "Though I have been approached by several companies regarding the remake of Sleepaway Camp, only AFA has shared my vision and is excited to have me helm the film, therefore preserving the integrity of the original film for the fans, as well as introducing Sleepaway Camp to a whole new generation. Can the "integrity of the original film" be preserved without having some version of gender confusion or fluidity?Today, the film is most iconic for its shocking twist and arresting final shot, where Angela is revealed to be Peter as we see her standing naked with her mouth agape. Meanwhile, rhetoric about LGBTQ+ adults grooming children to be trans has never been more popular. Conservatives are more focused on the narrative that being trans is a mental illness or the result of a cult being forced on brainwashed youth than ever before. So what does Sleepaway Camp look like in 2025?In recent years, the film has been reclaimed by queer and trans audiences. Many modern viewers see Angela as either a tragic victim or a parallel to the women in rape revenge movies like I Spit on Your Grave. In 2020, trans critic Harmony Colangelo wrote that Angela can be seen as "a tragic example of how important gender expression is.""In Angelas brain she is Peter, but people keep calling her by a name she doesnt want to be called and misgendering her," she argued. "That is the plot of all films about transitioning but because it takes place in reverse and is attached to a 'problematic' film like Sleepaway Camp, it is discounted on all counts."Writing for Dread Central the year before, film critic BJ Colangelo (Harmony's wife) said that the film is "an incredible metaphor about how forcing gender roles onto someone that doesn't align with who they are is fucking dangerous." She argued that the horror in the film's iconic scene isn't that Angela is revealed to have a penis, but is in "recognizing how abused and mentally tortured this child has been for years."These interpretations of the film open it up to a new direction, one that I think would be the most successful for a reimagining of the film: a conversion camp setting. One way to build the franchise to suit a modern, more enlightened world would be to set the new film at a conversion camp, where a trans boy or nonbinary teen is forced by his aunt to live as a girl. At the conversion camp, he would face bullying, body shaming, alienation, and sexual harassment just like Angela did. This version of Peter would know that he is a boy, but would still be forced to shower and bunk with the girls. He would be told he doesn't know who he is, and would be preyed upon by the adults at camp. It would be enough to drive someone crazy. The 2022 film They/Them attempted to do something similar to this idea. Set at a conversion camp, it follows Jordan, a nonbinary teen sent there by their parents. As Jordan gets to know the other campers and the staff, several of them start getting murdered. Then, in the third act twist, it's revealed that one of the staff members is a former camper out to get revenge on the place and the people who did her wrong.Unfortunately, the film had its trans characters take the high road and say that the killer encouraging the campers to join them is just as bad as the camp telling them to be cis and straight.A reimagining of Sleepaway Camp could explore the same topics, but show that when you push someone too far, they just might break. This new version of the film could reveal the true horror of a life like Angela's: being forced to be a gender you are not.Mey Rude is a staff writer for Out.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. WWW.OUT.COMDid Cardi B call JT's boyfriend gay? The diss track, explainedCardi B's new studio album, Am I the Drama?, poses a question that is pretty much immediately answered with very pointed lyrics throughout the LP.Notably, the diss track titled "Magnet" seemingly takes jabs at artists like Toni Braxton and Ice Spice; as well as Cardi B's own ex-husband, Offset (from the hip hop trio Migos); and, even more savagely, has an entire verse dedicated to City Girls rapper JT and her longtime boyfriend, Lil Uzi Vert. What does Cardi B say about JT on 'Magnet'? (@) The second verse of Cardi B's "Magnet" is packed with references of controversies and complaints that have been directed at JT, of the City Girls, over the years echoing a few thing that Cardi B herself, or other influential hip hop stars, have expressed about JT in the past.Overall, the lyrics of "Magnet" range from calling JT a "fake friend," to questioning JT's "loyalty" to other artists, to accusing JT of "dick riding" for more opportunities in the music industry. What does Cardi B say about Lil Uzi Vert on 'Magnet'? (@) Cardi B subsequently raps about JT "having an [n-word] she be sharin' bags with," adding: "My [n-word] cheat, but I don't stick no dildos in his ass, bitch."Within this context, Cardi B compares her own ex-partner, Offset who reportedly cheated on her multiple times with JT's partner, Lil Uzi Vert, who has discussed their gender fluidity in the past. This might be challenging to understand if you're not deep into the hip hop lore of modern-day female rappers, so let's share some context and break things down to make sense of Cardi B's lyrics. Is there drama between Cardi B and JT? (@) Cardi B and the City Girls a hip-hop duo consisting of JT and Yung Miami first collaborated on a track titled "Twerk" off the duo's debut album, 2018's Girl Code. There was eventually a music video for "Twerk" that came out in early 2019, and an alleged feud between the City Girls and Cardi B started making headlines around 2020. When asked about the drama rumors, JT told The Morning Hustle that there were "no problems going on with Cardi and our label," though she observed that there was some legal drama involving Migos a hip hop group that included Cardi B's then-partner, Offset and the City Girl's record label. As years went by, however, an actual feud eventually came up between Cardi B and JT. An overview from okayplayer outlines Cardi B celebrating that her song with GloRilla had cracked the top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 charts. (@) That celebratory X post got a subtweet from JT, who wrote:"im not like that at alllll I been doing remixes & never got credited ON A CHART BUT they get sung word for word and help push the original songs as intended unlike yall well I cant even say yall cause you dont rap,you TWEET! Congratulations Glo&stream FNF remix AND QUEENMIX." (@) Cardi B responded to JT with another X post."Lapdog," she wrote. (@) JT first defended her statements as being more about celebrating GloRilla than dismissing Cardi B. And yet, it didn't take long for that energy to shift."Wiener dog!" JT wrote, clearly responding to Cardi B's latter X post.Is Lil Uzi Vert gay? (@) Lil Uzi Vert came out as nonbinary and updated their pronouns to they/them in July 2022 through Instagram, which was reported by the Los Angeles Times and confirmed by Pitchfork a few months later. On the other hand, Lil Uzi Vert has always denied being gay a topic widely explored in their 2023 album Pink Tape, per Vibe. While it is fair to interpret Cardi B's lyrics as being homophobic given that she seems to be joking and/or pejoratively referencing JT's partner as someone who enjoys wearing purses while claiming that Vert also enjoys anal sex Cardi B's lyrics seem flippant, and more focused on questioning how JT feels about Lil Uzi Vert rather than actually passing judgment on Vert themself. To illustrate this point, JT often refers to Lil Uzi Vert as he/him, despite Vert announcing a preference for they/them pronouns.Comparing Cardi B's lyrics about Lil Uzi Vert with the diss tracks about Drake getting a BBL.The tone employed by Cardi B, who is queer herself, in these lyrics about Lil Uzi Vert remind listeners of the various recent diss tracks that accused Drake of getting a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) and lying about not getting any procedure done. This supposed BBL from Drake was brought up in "HISS" by Megan Thee Stallion: "These [n-word, plural] hate on BBLs and be walkin' 'round with the same scars."Similar claims were also referenced in one of Kendrick Lamar's diss tracks "Meet the Grahams" against Drake during their 2024 rap beef: "'Cause you lied about religious views, you lied about your surgery."In both cases, the BBLs accusations against Drake were more about highlighting his own insecurities rather than being actually about Drake not being the straight man that he identifies as.What can fans expect from this feud between Cardi B and JT being reignited?JT has been with Lil Uzi Vert since 2019 and told People in July 2025 that she still considers them her "best friend" and intends on marrying Lil Uzi Vert soon.On the other hand, Cardi B has seemingly finally moved on from her on-again, off-again relationship with Offset, telling Gayle King in a CBS Mornings interview that she's currently expecting a baby with her new boyfriend Stefon Diggs. It's hard to believe that JT won't clap back at Cardi B's lyrics in "Magnet," particularly given how much fodder there is to throw shade at Cardi B's rather problematic relationship with Offset and that she's gotten pregnant with a new baby after dating Diggs very briefly.Stay tuned for more.0 Comments 0 Shares 126 Views 0 Reviews -
WWW.OUT.COMKevin McDonald wants you to embrace the cringe, at the gym & in loveThe following Q&A is part of Outs Dating PrEP Season 4, where prominent LGBTQ+ figures share dating tips and insights for finding self-love and romance. Watch the full series on Out.com/DatingPrEP.These days, dating can feel like an endless audition. We curate, filter and perform all in the hope that someone will click on our carefully crafted dating app profile. But what if love, and life, were more about showing up sweaty, awkward and unapologetically real?Kevin McDonald a Los Angeles-based personal trainer, influencer and self-described philosophy bro is on a mission to remind us of exactly that.McDonald has built a devoted following as @yourfriendkevin_ by sharing everything from unfiltered gym fails to messy, hilarious date confessions. Equal parts fitness coach and big-hearted friend, he believes connection starts with embracing the cringe and learning to laugh at ourselves whether panicking over first-date outfits or screaming on roller coasters.Beyond the workout selfies and dating mishaps, McDonalds message is simple: focus less on perfection and more on community, curiosity and finding joy in the chaos. For him, confidence isnt sculpted in the gym its built one honest, vulnerable moment at a time.We sat down with McDonald to talk about his most chaotic date stories and what it really means to show up as your authentic self cringe and all.OUT: Whats your most iconic or chaotic first date story?Kevin McDonald: I went on a date with a now very prominent comedian and I ruined it at every single turn. He was sober, so naturally I cracked open a bottle of wine. I was living in this apartment that faced an alley. So I set up two chairs thinking it would be like, We're outside! How fun! Just sitting him in an alley, talking to me for an amount of time. I was boring. It was terrible. I was trying so hard to be cool to impress him that I think I wasnt even focused on what he wanted. I was just zeroing in on what I needed to project and it makes complete sense they didnt text me back. How do you typically meet people today?I love to scope out a friend group. I love to get a group together either at my place at a game night or at a bar, trivia, and then just meet people from there. I think a lot of people are afraid of just introducing themselves. It can just be slowly easing your way into an already established group of people. I love the safety of a herd to introduce myself and weave in and out of those interactions. What advice do you have for people struggling with the fear of being cringe when communicating their relationship desires upfront? When youre dealing with fears of being judged in dating, I think your mindsets already in the wrong spot. If youre thinking about what youre doing that could possibly be perceived as cringe, youre thinking about yourself and not the person youre with.Acting in that selfish way is holding you back. You gotta stare in that mirror. You gotta say I am cringe and I am free. You just gotta be yourself.Whats the importance of authenticity from the start?I find a lot of people struggling with where to find authenticity. Instead of focusing on the word authentic, I think you should focus on why you want to impress a person. What about you yourself currently is not good enough for them? And is that even a fair thought to be putting on yourself? Its usually not. So I think in order to be authentic you have to step back and wonder why these people youre trying to impress are looking for a different version of you.How do you know if someone is interested online? When it comes to judging people online, I think that of any superpower I have, this is where my anxiety flourishes because I am obsessed with finding out people who I think are phonies, which is entirely unhealthy. Please dont do this. However, if I think that someone online is portraying themselves in a way that I cant justify, like they just held their camera like that and they posed in that way, why? Who are they trying to impress? Immediately a red flag goes off in my head and I will dismiss them as someone whos probably not going to be completely honest with themselves or with me. My incredibly judgmental and rude mindset has aided me in being able to weed out and not waste time with genuine connections online. What challenges do you see in queer relationships when it comes to seeking validation or appearing perfect to others?I think a lot of pitfalls that queer relationships can fall into is the aspiration to validity, to be perceived as like a normal, cool relationship. That can lead people to push things in a way that might be inorganic. If your goal is to find someone you love, that seems like a very difficult project. While instead, if your goal is to just find someone to be affectionate with, that seems a lot more obtainable. What advice would you offer to queer folks who feel like love might be harder to find for them?If youre looking for love, youre looking for the wrong subject. You should be looking for support, affection, and people that like you. If you surround yourself with independent, strong, unique people, youre just naturally going to be surrounding yourself with compassion and with love, and a relationship might fall into place there. How has the queer community helped shape your fitness journey? My fitness journey has been shaped a lot by queerness and the community. I am inspired the most when I have people around me, whether that means group fitness, a class with friends, or going to the park and doing somersaults. The concept of community has changed the way that I view fitness. Fitness does not have to be lifting weights by yourself in the dark. Its so much more than that. How did you build your confidence over time?Building my confidence was definitely not a quick journey. I was a really late bloomer when it came to coming out. I had spent a lot of time lying to myself, saying once this one thing is fixed, then it'll be fine. Thats never really how it works. Once I started to tone and see myself in the mirror as an image that I liked a lot more, it was much easier to step back and see what else I could improve. It all started with physically getting up and doing something for myself. The steps that you need to take in order to better yourself are necessary to build that confidence, self-esteem, and project that to others. What advice do you have for staying safe and protecting yourself physically and sexually while dating?Protection goes both ways. You have to stay healthy, eat a vegetable every once in a while, and also trust the partners you're with. Take the proper medicine, make sure that if you're sexually active, you're doing it safely. You have to know that you're worth it, know that people around care and want the best for you, and you should also have that same respect for the people around you. What other challenges do you see within the queer community that impact dating? This may sound harsh, but I think a huge issue in the queer community is that a lot of people are selfish and think they know everything. We achieve nothing alone. Often, we forget the intricate systems of support that have led us here. When you focus only on yourself, youre putting yourself at a disadvantage, whether that's with dating, spending time in the gym, or trying to fix a toilet. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity and length.0 Comments 0 Shares 122 Views 0 Reviews
