A soundcheck for two, what love sounds like in an empty concert hall
The voice of Australian indie-pop singer Mallrat, also known as Grace Shaw, drifted through the empty concert hall, sweet, unhurried, intimate. Her team placed two folding chairs in the center of the floor, a modest throne room for an audience of two. The air smelled faintly of stale beer and industrial cleaner. Overhead lights hummed softly.I reached for Warren's hand. Mallrat's voice had scored the soundtrack of our relationship. Now, hearing it live in this hush between rehearsal and showtime felt like being let in on a secret. I glanced at Warren as tears shone in his eyes, his face caught in the soft yellow of the stage lights. It was April 29, 2025. The eve of our sixth anniversary. And the eve of what we thought would be his third round of chemotherapy. We met in college, at a crowded Valentine's Day party I hadn't planned to attend. A friend lured me out with the promise of free drinks. Warren and I kept bumping into each other on the dance floor until I turned, half-laughing and half-exasperated. "What do you want?" I asked. He admitted he was trying to avoid some "situationships" and just kept accidentally running into me instead. We ended the night kissing between debates about politics. By spring, we were inseparable. On a road trip to nowhere in particular, we discovered Mallrat's "Groceries." The song made falling in love sound as natural and as necessary as running errands. That became our shorthand for everything small and sacred. I cooked dinner. He picked up groceries. We built a life not in milestones, but in patterns: shared playlists, flights booked with points, and a thousand repetitions of choosing each other. In March 2020, just before the world shut down, we moved to Dallas to stay with Warren's aunt and uncle. Their guest room became our first shared home. We worked side by side at mismatched desks. We learned each other's rhythms in the kitchen. We took long drives to be out in the world. Mallrat's voice played softly in the background. Somehow, she made everything sound like it might be okay. In 2023, I took a job on Capitol Hill. We moved to D.C., our third city in four years. The pace there was brutal, but Warren was the still point in the spin. I made him a latte every morning before racing to the Capitol. He never complained about the schedule or the ambition. He just stayed. Constant, patient, quietly rooting for me. Then came the first diagnosis. In March 2023, Warren learned he had testicular cancer. The doctors were confident. "Highly curable," they said, their voices smoothed by repetition. He would need surgery, not chemo. It felt clinical. Contained. A disruption, not a collapse. Warren approached it like a checklist. Find the best surgeon. Ask the right questions. Heal. I mirrored his calm. I didn't dive into every detail. I didn't hover. I put my fear aside and returned to work. When the post-op scans came back clean, we celebrated by doing absolutely nothing. We exhaled. In January 2024, I took another job in Dallas. Warren followed willingly, working remotely. It felt like returning to where we first became a "we." Life opened back up. We wandered Tokyo's side streets, got sunburned in Coachella's desert light, and lost ourselves in Mexico City's chaos. We weren't running away from anything. We were just alive again. Then, in March 2025, Warren started having stomach pain. At first, we told ourselves it was stressor bad takeout. But the ER visit told a different story. A large teratoma pressed against his organs. A pulmonary embolism, a clot in his lung. The cancer was back. This time, it didn't follow the script. The doctors used words like "resistant." Chemo began shortly after. Warren's strength drained slowly, then all at once. He moved like someone rationing energy. He lost his appetite. His hair came out in handfuls; I swept off the floor before he woke. This time, I didn't stand back. I took over the schedules, spreadsheets, and late-night bill payments. I became fluent in scan results and whispered prayers in the shower. Hope didn't come easily this time, but it came anyway. It had to.I needed to give us something to hold on to. Mallrat's tour was opening in Dallas the day before our anniversary. I wrote to her team about our story. They didn't hesitate. In the stillness of the empty venue, as Grace sang about finding someone who feels like home, Warren wept beside me. I held his hand and gently passed a small cup of peppermint oil under his nose every few minutes. It was a trick from the cancer center to ease the nausea. Then came the opening chords of "Groceries." Her team knew how special this song was to us. I turned to Warren."We first heard it when we started dating," I said. "I thought maybe this was just a summer fling. Something brief. But here we are, six years later, still building a life. I know the song is about trying not to fall for someone, and failing. That's exactly what happened. You were there in every small moment until you became home. I've spent most of my life torn between love and independence. But with you, it's never a choice. It's both." And then I asked him to marry me. Warren stood so fast his chair nearly toppled. "A million times, yes," he replied. Grace cheered. Then she crossed the stage and hugged us both. When the set ended, we stumbled through thank-yous. Grace signed some merch. Warren beamed like a kid meeting his hero. I said little and watched him, trying to memorize everything that was happening. Nine days later, on May 8, the day before what would have been his third chemo cycle, the doctor called. The tumor had shrunk, but not enough, and they were stopping chemo. Surgery would be necessary. I patched Warren into the call. Then I stood by the window, still holding the phone long after the line had gone quiet. I wanted his hand in mine instead of the cold metal that had delivered this new uncertainty. Then Grace's music played in my head. Just a pop lyric, but it had become something more. A quiet refrain against the unknown; a reminder that wishes still matter, even when dreams don't come true the way we expect. Because love isn't just what happens in the spotlight, it's what happens in the waiting rooms. In the meal you cook for someone with no appetite. In peppermint oil, shaved heads, and yes, even in folding chairs at a sound check. Love shows up even when you're scared. Especially then. The future remains uncertain. But that hour reminded me of something I've always known. You don't need certainty to make a promise, but you need presence. In the yellow light, two hands intertwined and made a vow we've made in a hundred quiet ways already. And whatever comes next, we'll face it the same way we always have. Ranking the highest-earning queens in 'RuPaul's Drag Race' herstory
Top earners in the 'Drag Race' franchise. The cash tips on RuPaul's Drag Race and All Stars have increased significantly over the years. This has benefitted queens who often spend thousands of dollars to get their "package" together in preparation to compete on the show.At this point in Drag Race herstory, winning a maxi challenge during a flagship season comes with a reward of $5,000. There are also occasional mini challenges usually worth $2,500. On All Stars, winning a maxi challenge and its subsequent lip sync for your legacy results in a cash tip of $10,000 which could roll over from week to week during the Lip Sync Assassin format, but has since returned to its weekly dishing out of cash prizes to lip sync winners in subsequent seasons. Both flagship and All Stars seasons of Drag Race maintained the $100,000 grand prize, which was first given out in season 4, for almost a full decade. After season 14 increased the Drag Race grand prize slightly to $150,000, it grew yet again on All Stars 7, the highly-anticipated all-winners season of the show, which set $200,000 as the new standard for crowned champions in the Emmy Award record-breaking reality competition series.Between in-season cash tips, the increased grand prize, and format changes/twists giving competitors the chance to win even more money, it's time to meet the highest-earning queens in RuPaul's Drag Race herstory.15. Mont X Change $115,000Mont X Change's Drag Race saga is one for the herstory books, and it all started with her crowning as season 10's Miss Congeniality, though she (inexplicably) became the only queen since season 7 to not win a cash prize with the title. In 2019, Mont returned for All Stars 4 with a vengeance: She won three challenges, earned a $5,000 lip-sync cash tip along the way, and was crowned a winner in the end cashing in the full $100,000 grand prize amount despite All Stars 4 ending in a tie of winners between Trinity The Tuck and Mont. Both "Twinners" came back for All Stars 7, the all-winners season of Drag Race, where Mont made $10,000 from one lip sync win, made it to grand finale with more Legendary Legend Stars than anyone else, and finished as runner-up. Overall, Mont earned a total of $115,000 from her three Drag Race runs.14. Symone $120,000The always fashionable Symone steamrolled the competition on Drag Race season 13 with maxi challenge wins that amounted to $20,000 (at $5,000 each). Symone then won the lip sync for the crown smackdown and earned the title of America's Next Drag Superstar, which came with the grand prize of $100,000.This overall total of $120,000 puts Symone among the highest earners in Drag Race herstory.13. Jaida Essence Hall $127,000Despite being plagued by new lockdown guidelines and certain controversies, Drag Race season 12 is fondly remembered as a fantastic cycle full of talented queens and with an iconic winner like Jaida Essence Hall, who made some pretty coin during her time on the show.Jaida's season 12 run included earnings like $15,000 from three maxi challenge wins ($5,000 each), a cash tip worth $2,000 at the finale, and the $100,000 grand prize as America's Next Drag Superstar. She subsequently competed on All Stars 7 and came close to being a finalist again. In this all-winners season, she earned $10,000 from one lip sync win.Adding it all up, Ms. Jaida won as much as $127,000 from the Drag Race franchise.11-12. Alaska $130,000 (tie)Alaska didn't earn any cash prizes or tips during her original run on Drag Race season 5, but she did make a lovely $130,000 from All Stars 2. That grand total combines the $100,000 grand prize for winning All Stars 2 and the $30,000 cash tips she won from three maxi challenge (and lip sync) wins.Longtime Drag Race fans will remember that Alaska won four maxi challenges on All Stars 2. However, that third win was during the "Revenge of the Queens" episode, which focused on the eliminated queens getting a chance to come back. As Alaska's challenge partner that week and an eliminated queen trying to return to the competition Alyssa Edwards got to lip sync for that cash tip instead.11-12. Trinity The Tuck $130,000 (tie)Trinity The Tuck made $120,000 while competing on All Stars 4. Those earnings came from winning two maxi challenges and their subsequent lip syncs (worth $10,000 each), plus the grand prize of $100,000 at the finale as previously noted, the full amount despite the season ending in Mont X Change and Trinity being both crowned as "Twinners."Trinity subsequently competed on All Stars 7 and cashed in $10,000 from one lip sync win during that all-winners season of Drag Race. Adding it all up, the Tucking queen herself cashed in a sum of $130,000 as a competitor in this franchise.10. Raja $135,000Raja received a grand prize of $75,000 after winning Drag Race season 3. In hindsight, she was the last crowned winner to not win the series' long-standing $100,000 prize set in season 4 and kept until season 14.Over a decade later, the EYE-CONIC fashion queen came back to compete on All Stars 7, the all-winners season, where she made $10,000 from one lip sync win. Raja also won the Queen of She Done Already Done Had Herses lip sync smackdown at the finale, earning a cash prize of $50,000 that came with the title.Raja's grand total earnings come up to $135,000 from her two times competing on Drag Race.9. Shea Coule $150,000Despite not winning any cash prizes on Drag Race season 9, Shea Coule came out swinging for All Stars 5 and obliterated her competitors. Aside from earning the $100,000 that came with her All Stars crown, Shea also won $30,000 from two maxi challenge and lip sync wins: A total of $130,000.Throughout All Stars 7, Shea won two maxi challenges and both of those lip syncs for her legacy. As a result, Shea earned $20,000 in the all-winners season. Altogether, this legendary legend queen made $150,000 from her three appearances on Drag Race.8. Willow Pill $159,500Producers announced just one week before the grand finale of Drag Race season 14 that the grand prize had just been increased to $150,000, which was a significant increase from the annual $100,000 that had been awarded to winners since season 4 of the flagship series.Besides making that full $150k for winning Drag Race, Willow Pill also won a few cash tips throughout the season: $5,000 from a maxi challenge win, $2,500 from a mini challenge win, and $2,000 from the finale tip given out to all the queens. An impressive grand total of $159,500 for Willow.7. Nymphia Wind $218,250Nymphia Wind earned $218,250 during her B-A-N-A-N-A-S saga on Drag Race season 16.Let's break it down: Nymphia made $11,250 from three maxi challenge wins, plus $5,000 from two mini challenge wins. She, along with the entire cast of season 16, received a cash tip of $2,000 at the finale. Nymphia was then crowned America's Next Drag Superstar and earned the $200,000 grand prize that comes with the title. Vote Yellow, indeed!6. Sasha Colby $222,000Sasha Colby cashed in a grand prize of $200,000 after being crowned America's Next Drag Superstar in season 15 making her the first-ever winner of a U.S. flagship season to cash in the newly-raised $200k grand prize. (For context, season 14 winner Willow Pill received a grand prize of $150,000 the previous year.)The G.O.D.D.E.S.S. queen earned $20,000 from four maxi challenges wins ($5,000 each) throughout the competition, and also received a $2,000 cash tip at the grand finale. Altogether, Sasha made $222,000 in her flawless Drag Race run.5. Onya Nurve $222,500Onya Nurve earned a total of $222,500 as the crowned winner of Drag Race season 17. This total sum combines the $200,000 grand prize, $15,000 from three solo maxi challenges wins, $2,500 from the episode 12 maxi challenge win (tied with Lexi Love), $3,000 from two mini challenge wins ($500 in episode 6; $2,500 in episode 13), and the $2,000 grand finale tip to the entire cast of the queens. It do take Nurve to be this iconic, beloved, and a high-earner, too.3-4. Jimbo $230,000 (tie)Even though Jimbo had already competed in season 1 of Canada's Drag Race and the first-ever edition of RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs. the World, she didn't actually make any money from those two runs. Thankfully, things were very different on All Stars 8 and Jimbo was well compensated for her accomplishments in Mama Ru's queendom.Besides the $200,000 grand prize for winning All Stars 8, Jimbo also cashed in $30,000 throughout the competition. As a quick breakdown: $10,000 came from winning a lip sync for your legacy (against Silky Nutmeg Ganache), and $20,000 was earned from four maxi challenge wins (each worth a $5,000 cash tip). All that math means that Jimbo took home $230,000 after competing on All Stars 8 and becoming the first international Drag Race star to enter the U.S. franchise's Hall of Fame.3-4. Alyssa Edwards $230,000 (tie)The first-ever edition of RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars crowned the legendary Alyssa Edwards, who started her journey in Mama Ru's queendom all the way back in season 5.During her subsequent stint on All Stars 2, Alyssa won $10,000 from a maxi challenge (and lip sync for your legacy) win, then earned a $5,000 cash tip for her "Shut Up and Drive" lip sync tie with Tatianna in the unforgettable "Revenge of the Queens" episode that brought both of them back into the competition. In 2024, Alyssa represented the United States in the first Global All Stars season that featured her competing against 11 queens from other countries and international Drag Race spinoffs. Alyssa cashed in $15,000 from maxi challenges and lip sync wins, and then won the grand prize of $200,000 as the crowned winner of Global All Stars.Running up the numbers, Alyssa is tied with Jimbo with a grand total of $230,000 when it comes to Drag Race earnings.2. Ginger Minj $291,000Ginger Minj didn't win any cash tips in her first two Drag Race runs. Season 7 didn't hand out weekly cash tips like recent seasons do, and there was no prize for being a top 3 finalist if you didn't snatch the crown. All Stars 2 was the first U.S. cycle with a weekly in-season cash tip $10,000 for each top 2 lip sync for your legacy winner but Ginger's elimination in episode 3 also resulted in no earnings. It wasn't until All Stars 6 her third time competing that Minj's monetizing on the show actually started. Ginger made $61,000 from that season, becoming the highest-earning non-crowned queen in Drag Race herstory. (A year later, Raja nearly tied the record by winning $60,000 on All Stars 7. Two years later, LaLa Ri beat it with total earnings of $75,500 in The Fame Games of All Stars 8.)Ginger's winning run on All Stars 10 included $30,000 from three lip sync wins and the $200,000 grand prize for being crowned. Adding it all up, Ginger made $291,000 across four Drag Race seasons.1. Jinkx Monsoon $332,500Jinkx Monsoon made $100,000 when she won RuPaul's Drag Race season 5. Then, upon returning to the all-winners season and getting crowned Queen of All Queens, she took home the franchise's first-ever grand prize of $200,000.Over the course of All Stars 7, Jinkx's dominant track record also resulted in a cash tip of $2,500 from the Reading challenge and three lip sync wins worth $10,000 each. Between her original run and her comeback arc on All Stars, Jinkx earned a grand total of $332,500 as the first two-time Drag Race winner in herstory.

Hello Out readers!Last week, among other new music releases, queer singer Fletcher released her latest album, Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?.The album's first single, "Boy," caused a lot of discourse when it was released. The song, about Fletcher falling in love with a man, was released at the beginning of Pride month, and many of the singer's queer fans felt confused that the song sounded like an apology rather than a celebration of love. Now, the singer has spoken with Out about the discourse, her new album, and living in the public eye."I do not take lightly that I have been such important representation for so many people, and to anybody who felt anger or frustration or confusion or abandoned in some way, or the rug was pulled out from underneath them, I understand all of that and I see you and I love you," Fletcher says. She is also happy that if fans feel like they can no longer relate to her music, they have plenty of other options for sapphic and lesbian pop stars. "There's so many people, and there's so much representation, and there's so many people to narrate what your love story looks like. And if I've been that person for a long time, I am so honored," she says. "If I'm not that person anymore, that's totally fucking OK. It just makes me stoked to see how much music there is, and how much from when I started, and how scary it was to come out as an artist 10 years ago, and where we are now. Sex experts explain 'banksying,' a toxic new dating trend
Dating in the modern age just seems to get more complicated every year. Between the ubiquity of hookup apps, and toxic relationship trends like ghosting, floodlighting, and love bombing, its a wonder anyone manages to settle down at all. Then, add in the diverse types of relationship models out there, from polyamory and open relationships to soft-swapping and Living Apart Together, and things get even trickier to figure out.And now, a new toxic dating trend is sweeping the nation and leaving dating hopefuls in the lurch. Its called banksying, a clever name for a cruel way to end a relationship by slowly destroying it from the inside out.But what is banksying, how harmful is it, and are LGBTQ+ people more likely to be the victim or perpetrator of it? We talked to sex and relationship experts to give you the lowdown on this toxic new dating trend. What is banksying, and where did the term originate?Bankysing is a new Gen Z dating term that gets its name from the infamous street artist Banksy, known for his mysterious art that pops up out of nowhere. But instead of a satirical piece of street art that self-destructs like one of Banksys paintings did its a selfish way to end a relationship to protect yourself by withdrawing emotionally and destroying the relationship from within, so that when the relationship ends, youre prepared and your partner is blindsided. The easiest way to describe banksying is as quiet quitting for relationships, Milla Impola, a sex, condom, and lube expert for ONE Condoms, tells PRIDE. One partner decides theyre no longer inspired by the relationship and slowly begins to pull away emotionally. They conceal these feelings from their partner because theyre not quite ready to jump ship, and they need time to emotionally prepare to part ways. When the time does come to end things, they feel less upset because theyve already been preparing, but their partner is often left blindsided and hurt.Basically, someone who is banksying their partner has given themselves the opportunity to pre-grieve the end of the relationship, detach emotionally, and begin making plans for their future, while the unsuspecting partner ends up blindsided when the axe finally drops. How is banksyingdifferent than ghosting?Ghosting is when someone ducks out of a relationship without saying a word. One day, theyre just gone and cut off contact. With banksying, you stop reaching out as frequently, dont return phone calls or texts as often, make up excuses to cancel plans, and become more emotionally distant. Banksying involves enough interaction, albeit sparse and inconsistent, to sabotage the relationship from the inside, explains Ally Iseman, a queer, kink-aware certified relationship coach and founder of Passport 2 Pleasure. Think of it like this: a ghost leaves nothing behind, like it was never there. Banksy leaves their work behind them, even if it destroys itself. Is banksying more harmful than ghosting?Bankysing may be even more insidious because instead of leaving the relationship without telling you, someone attempting this move is emotionally manipulating their partner instead of admitting they want out. Ghosting may be cruel, but at least its unambiguous. Banksying leaves your partner in limbo, not knowing why youre withdrawing and making them question the status of the relationship.According to Iseman, Having breadcrumbs of a relationship, even if they are rotting the relationship from the inside, can be hard to step away from because, unlike with ghosting, Banksying leaves you something to hold onto, even if it's elusive and inconsistent. Why would someone do this?Banksying can be tied to peoples fear of confrontation, emotional codependency, or lack of communication skills. But according to Anthony Canapi, a marriage and family therapist, LGBTQ+ dating expert, and the founder & CEO of Best Man Matchmaking and Transcend Matchmaking, some people also engage in this behavior because they crave emotional intimacy but don't have the bandwidth to commit because it becomes overwhelming." They may also do it because they want the relationship but dont want to put in the work, or theyre insecure.People who feel they dont deserve love or fear eventual rejection might pull a Banksy before they get hurt and feel it's the easier out rather than being honest, and they may be hoping the other person will get the hint and end things themselves.Impola agrees, saying, Lets be real: ending relationships usually sucks. While breakups might be hard, showing your partner respect in that final moment is worth it.Are LGBTQ+ people more likely to engage in or experience banksying?Banksying isnt unique to LGBTQ+ relationships, but queer people may be more likely to experience it. LGBTQ+ individuals may face unique challenges around communication, identity, or safety in relationships, especially in environments where they dont feel fully accepted, Impola explains. These added complexities could contribute to different ways of navigating breakups, but the core behavior of banksying isn't limited to any one group.Healing after being banksydBreakups arent fun, no matter how they go down. If you experience banksying, know that your emotions are valid, Impola reminds. Frustration, sadness, regret no matter what, its normal to experience a flood of feelings when a relationship ends unexpectedly. If you want to confront the person who treated you this way, make sure you go in knowing you might not get the closure you want, and ask yourself if you are ok with that. Sometimes the best thing we can do is radically accept what we cant change and move forward with the lessons weve learned, she advises.Canapi also recommends not letting yourself fall into the trap of self-blame. It can be hard not to question your own worth when someone ends a relationship in such an emotionally manipulative way, but try to remember how amazing you are. They then start thinking they're the issue, when actually, if youve been Banksyd, its more about them than you. Its a red flag in disguise, he says. What does this toxic dating trend say about modern dating and hookup culture?Canapi, who is the founder and CEO of two LGBTQ+ matchmaking services, says that while dating apps have made it easier to create intense emotional intimacy quickly there is also a greater chance of harm, especially if you add in love bomdbing, trauma bonding, or banksying. Banksying is, at its core, a disappearing act to avoid emotional consequences, and in turn, you're causing so much more harm because it's promoting closure as optional; If I were to banksy them, they will get the hint that I'm not interested, but fail to realize you're leaving someone at a cognitive rumination, where they replay everything trying to find clues or mistakes on what went wrong, when you're the one who has done wrong because you couldn't speak up, he says. What should you do if youre considering banksying someone? If youre feeling the itch to get out of your relationship but think it would be easier to push your partner away and emotionally detach first, ask yourself why. Canapi recommends asking yourself these three questions: Am I feeling overwhelmed? Am I scared of intimacy, rejection, or hurting them? Do I genuinely not want this, or am I afraid of being vulnerable or honest? And then you need to be prepared to end the relationship in an open and honest way so that youre not wasting their time or your own. If you made someone feel seen, safe, or excited, and then go bye bye, your absence echoes loudly. Although it's hard, and it's not fun to be truthful and honest, that's what you signed up for.Have you decided to end your relationship and want to do it in a mature way, but have no idea how to start? Canapi has some prompts to get the conversation started.Try one of these:Ive really enjoyed getting to know you, but Im not in a place to continue this.I realized Im not ready for something deeper. You deserve someone who is.Canapi says, You may be a person trying to navigate modern dating, maybe without the tools or emotional safety to do it well, but there's a way to do it ethically and that respects the other person. Next time, leave clarity, not confusion.Sources Cited:Milla Impola, a sex, condom, and lube expert for ONE Condoms.Ally Iseman, a queer, kink-aware certified relationship coach and founder of Passport 2 Pleasure.Anthony Canapi, a marriage and family therapist, LGBTQ+ dating expert, and the founder & CEO of Best Man Matchmaking and Transcend Matchmaking.

New study ranks U.S. states with highest STI rates
Summertime means more sunshine, more socializing, and, according to medical researchers, more sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A new study by telehealth company Invigor Medical analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine how infection rates have evolved across the United States, and which states and cities have the highest rates of reported STIs.Examining the four most commonly tested STIs chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV, the study tracked how rates have changed over time, and where the infections are most concentrated in the U.S. According to the study, the overall number of reported STIs has increased in the U.S. since 2013, when 1.8 million cases were reported. In 2023, that number rose to 2.5 million cases, with chlamydia being the most common STI, with more than 1.6 million new cases reported that year.Despite the rising number of reported STIs, the study actually notes that the STI epidemic is slowing down. "While Syphilis infections remain at record highs, reported cases of Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and HIV have declined from their peak levels in previous years, signaling a promising shift in the trajectory of the nations STD burden," the study's analysis reads. See on Instagram This overall slowdown could be due, in part, to the growing adoption of prevention methods like PrEP and sex education resources. However, states that have fewer prevention efforts report higher numbers of new infections. The study notes that many of the states with higher infection rates are concentrated in the South. "These states tend to face persistent challenges in STD prevention, including gaps in healthcare access, limited sexual health education, and structural barriers to screening and treatment," the study reads. "Outside of the Southern U.S., South Dakota and New York also report relatively high rates despite different demographic and policy contexts."The study found that South Dakota reported several concentrated outbreaks in Native American communities, which are often impacted by systemic inequity in health care and limited access to services and education. By contrast, the study notes that in New York, there's a higher concentration of at-risk populations (including but not limited to gay and bisexual men, and trans folks), and more robust surveillance and tracking methods, which can lead to higher numbers of cases being reported.States with the lowest infection rates were concentrated in New England, the study reports. "Vermont (241.0), New Hampshire (251.1), and Maine (276.6) sit at the bottom of the list, with rates less than one-fourth of those in the highest-burden states," Invigor Medical writes. "New England states tend to be older and have less ethnic diversity, both of which are associated with lower STD risk. Additionally, the region has higher median household incomes and lower uninsured rates, making it easier for residents to access testing and treatment and thus reducing the rate of spread."

What's going on with Jamie Lee Curtis, Matt Rogers, and Bowen Yang at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards?
Pop culture fans are confused after an interaction between Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis and Las Culturistas hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers at the recent Las Culturistas Culture Awards red carpet. The fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards took place over the weekend, and one red carpet moment has fans debating across the internet. The Culture Awards are a satirical, tongue-in-cheek awards show created by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang for their podcast Las Culturistas. It includes categories like the Allison Williams Cool Girl Award, the Famke Janssen Name Award, Most Beautiful Name for a Daughter You Haven't Even Thought of Yet, Most Iconic Exchange of Words, and the Jamie Lee Curtis Award for Gusto, Enthusiasm and Individuality. This is the first year the Culture Awards will be televised, and the red carpet featured many celebrities, including Curtis. Now, an interaction between Curtis and the hosts has gone viral. @vulture We asked people on the purple carpet at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards what pop culture line is stuck in their head @bowenyang @mattrogerstho @jamieleecurtis @rachelbloom @meredithmarks @joelkimbooster #AaronJackson @gertie_bird @heathergay_slc @bronwynnewport original sound - Vulture Vulture was covering the red carpet and asked the two hosts what pop culture quotes they had stuck in their heads.Rogers quoted Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, saying, "What, like it's hard?""Mine is gonna be Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich. Underrated line, 'I'm not talking to you, bitch!'"As Yang did an impassioned Erin Brockovich impression, Curtis left her red-carpet interview to come over and talk to them as Rogers told her they were quoting Julia Roberts."Listen, bring the whole fucking thing down," Curtis says as she gestures with her hands, indicating they should be less loud."You're gonna hate this show then," Yang said. "We'll sit you in the back," Rogers added. "Hey, maybe you could bring it up!"Many fans are saying the interaction made them "cringe," and didn't know if it was supposed to be funny or if Curtis was genuinely upset at the two hosts. It's unclear how serious the interaction was, or whether Yang and Rogers were in on it from the start."Jamie Lee Curtis what was that," asked @jameypmiller on Instagram."Does she not know who they are?" asks laureng0423 on Reddit."I really hope this was her attempt at humour because it's really cringe," Sleepy-Giraffe947 added. (@) Some are taking it further, calling Curtis a "Karen" and diving into misogynist and personal attacks on the Freakier Friday star."Jamie Lee Curtis is the ultimate Karen," @devyldyango wrote on Instagram."i did not expect a video from the las culturistas red carpet to be the first time ive ever felt triggered. lol. jamie lee curtis sucks ass," Austin Blake Mays wrote on X. "this is exactly how shitty adults would treat me as a loud gay theatre kid. doing this to them at their own event? she truly repulses me."It does seem clear that neither Rogers nor Yang felt hurt or attacked, as they replied quickly and cleverly while laughing.Curtis has been a fierce ally to the queer community, including supporting her transgender daughter, and sending a message of support to queer people after Trump was elected president in 2024."Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied. Many minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and trans people will be more afraid," she said at the time. "We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive health care that they need and deserve. For all those people, there will be those who will help you. Me included."In 2023, she was named The Advocate's Advocate of the Year. While some are calling out Curtis, others are saying it was "obviously" a bit. They say it's clear that Curtis and the Las Culturistas hosts were having fun and satirizing celebrity feuds."The comments abt jamie lee curtis are weird," @thirdeyebart wrote on TikTok. "She's playing. They're playing. Everyone is being silly it's a fun silly time.""Yeah it's dire out there. Like the interaction was awkward, but anyone who gets out even occasionally should see this and know she wasn't serious," crimson777 wrote on Reddit. "The motion and face she makes when she motions to herself after Matt says she should bring it up is clearly her having some fun with them.""Reddit's ability not to see two people goofing around never fails to surprise me," added WolfCola723.Whatever the case may be, the moment has people talking and more excited about the Culture Awards than ever before. The Las Culturistas Culture Awards were taped July 17 in Los Angeles, and will air Tuesday, August 5 on Bravo at 9pm ET. The show will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.

'Railroad Daddy' Morgan Spector just dropped his leg-day routine

In a new Mens Health video, the stardubbed Railroad Daddy in reference to his Gilded Age character, the charismatic and charming railroad tycoon George Russellwalks viewers through the workout that keeps him strong enough to run whole railroads and rep a period waistcoat.See on InstagramSpector has been lifting since he was 10, when his father introduced him to powerlifting to help an awkward, clumsy kid, he said in his interview.Decades later, he still daydreams about a role that would let him go full superhero bulk. Here's how trans Americans can get accurate passports
This story was originally reported by Orion Rummler of The 19th. Meet Orion and read more of his reporting on gender, politics and policy.LGBTQ+ civil rights groups are urging transgender Americans to update their passports now, while a court order forces the State Department to process new applications. For most of this year, trans and nonbinary Americans have been blocked from obtaining passports that match their gender identity, spurring travel fears and causing bureaucratic headaches for many. But now, at least for a limited time, trans people can obtain accurate passports again. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which brought the lawsuit that resulted in this relief, has published detailed steps for trans people navigating this process. Those holding passports that expire within one year, or a passport with an outdated name or gender marker, can apply for a corrected passport from the State Department. As of July 2, the agency is processing these applications and issuing updated passports, in response to a June 17 court order. If people are eligible to obtain a passport under the current rules, and they don't currently have one or their passport will be expiring very soon now is probably the time to move ahead with that application, said Olivia Hunt, director of federal policy at the nonprofit Advocates for Transgender Equality. There is a sense of urgency for trans people to get this done soon, said Arli Christian, senior policy counsel in the ACLU's national political advocacy department. The government has asked the judge in this case to dissolve the injunction allowing trans people to update their passports. Advocates expect the agency to continue to fight, as the Trump administration has prioritized rolling back transgender rights. The 19th spoke with legal and policy experts to break down what steps transgender people should follow to update their passports and what risks they may face while doing so.How do I know if Im eligible? On June 17, a federal court ordered the State Department to allow Americans whose gender identity differs from their sex at birth to self-select the gender on their passport as the ACLUs lawsuit continues. All transgender Americans fall into this category, unless they already have a valid passport with a gender marker that matches their identity one that will not expire in over a year. This court order extends relief to any transgender person who has been kept from obtaining an accurate passport. This includes "X" passports. This relief applies whether applicants have refrained from getting an accurate passport under the Trump administration or if the government has issued them an inaccurate one in the last six months. Is there any risk in updating my passport right now?Yes. The State Department is keeping tabs on transgender people applying for an accurate passport as members of the affected class in this lawsuit. Specifically, the agency is tracking attestation forms and wants to revoke and replace passports if a higher court rules in its favor. However, even if the agency were to win this case, experts disagree on whether the government has the ability, both legally and practically, to replace passports on a large scale. Every person has to evaluate that risk for yourself, Christian said. The information on passport applications is still protected by privacy laws, they added. I know theres a fear of, like, is this letting the government know that Im trans? Per our privacy laws, it is narrower than that. Carl Charles, an attorney in the southern regional office of Lambda Legal, the nation's largest LGBTQ+ legal group, doesnt believe that the State Department has the authority to revoke passports that it issues under this court order because these passports are not being issued erroneously. Although the secretary of state can cancel any U.S. passport if it appears that document was fraudulently obtained or created illegally, the agency is issuing valid passports and following a judges order to do so. The State Department has also fired thousands of workers, Hunt said. The agency may not have enough personnel to carry out replacing so many passports, she said although based on the governments actions so far, the Trump administration has prioritized targeting trans people regardless of effort or cost. She expects the agency to try and follow through on its promise here.As to the agency tracking attestation forms, the federal government may already have records on whether an applicant is a transgender person, Charles said. Thats how the State Department has been able to deny trans people accurate passports in the first place, he said, by looking through individual records for previous passports with a different sex marker. However, the extent of those records are most likely limited. Up until January, there was no easy way for the State Department to pull a list of all people who'd updated their gender marker, Hunt said. There may not be a list in existence of trans people who updated their information in the past. Civil rights groups say that trans people should consider their own situation before applying for a new, accurate passport how urgently do they need the document? Are they traveling soon? If folks do not have a passport thats expiring imminently, rushing to update it might not be the best idea, Hunt said. Ultimately, each person needs to make their own decision about what's right for them. How do I get my new passport?First, fill out an attestation form found on the State Departments travel website, under the sex marker in passports page. This form is essential, as it tells the government you are a class member entitled to recourse under the ACLUs lawsuit. Then, fill out the application that matches your situation; whether you need to renew a passport or get one for the first time. Youll need form DS-11, DS-82 or DS-5504. The latter is used to file a correction if your passport has the wrong gender marker on it as part of the Trump administrations policies. If you are applying for a passport with an "X" gender marker, there will not be an "X" option on your application form, according to the ACLU but there is one on the attestation form. Leave the sex selection blank on your passport form, but check the "X" marker on your attestation form. This will indicate the correct gender marker for your new passport. Bring these documents to your local passport acceptance facility, which includes post offices and some public libraries, or include it in your mailed application. Fees vary, but applications typically cost around $130 without additional expediting charges. If applying in person, be ready to explain your right to a passport that accurately reflects your gender identity because the clerk or official may not know about recent changes. Provide details about the ongoing lawsuit, Orr v. Trump, and that your attestation form identifies you as a class member seeking relief. Can I still travel with my existing passport, even if the gender marker is wrong?Yes, although transgender and nonbinary travelers should carry backup documents and be armed with information in case they face harassment from state and federal officials while traveling. A Real ID-compliant drivers license can also be used for any domestic flight.Your currently issued passport is valid for travel, whether you got it before the Trump administration or in the six months since, or as a part of this class, Christian said. No matter what sex designation is on there, it is valid for travel, including X designations. Where should I go for help? The ACLU has an online intake form for transgender people facing issues with obtaining passports with accurate gender markers. Lambda Legals help desk also offers resources, although it is not available for emergencies or time-sensitive issues. Additional legal resources can be found on the Advocates for Transgender Equalitys website.

  • Ginger Minj Wins Drag Race All Stars 10
    WWW.OUT.COM
Ginger Minj is 'letting the monsters eat themselves' as reigning 'All Stars' winner
Ginger Minj isn't looking for your opinions about her Drag Race: All Stars victory the crown and scepter are living on her bedroom shelf regardless. After 10 years, four seasons, and a record-breaking three Snatch Game wins, the iconic drag queen has finally claimed victory. Minj was crowned winner of All Stars Season 10 on Friday night, something that still feels "surreal" a few days later. Now that she's won, she says "I don't know what to do with myself" but you can expect whatever comes next to be impactful. "Even before winning, I have always tried to be a queen for the people. And by the people, I mean all people," Minj tells Out. "So, whether you love me or you loathe me, I will always use whatever platform I have to make the world a happier, safer, better place for all of us. I got into drag because there's nothing more punk rock or political than bucking the system in a big way, and I think that if you can approach things through love and humor, you can open a lot of doors and change a lot of minds."See on InstagramSeason 10 of All Stars introduced a new format that gave the returning queens more time to shine as they competed in three groups of six known as "brackets," before the top three from each group merged to compete against each other. The finale featured the most queens in Drag Race herstory, with eight facing off in a lip sync battle royal for the crown. Minj, the first to win under the format, loves the changes as "an old pageant girl at heart.""Before you compete at a national pageant, you have to qualify at a preliminary," she explains. "So, it really felt like brackets for these little prelim pageants that led us up to the big final national. And I love that. I thought it was so exciting, especially as a viewer, because for the six weeks before I even stepped foot on screen, I got to just be a fan and watch these two mini seasons play out."Originally in bracket three, Minj swept her competitors by landing in the top two for each of her group's three episodes, then once again after the groups merged. She also set a Drag Race record by becoming the first queen to win Snatch Game three times. However, the performance she was proudest of wasn't any of her victories, but rather her talent show number, in which she did an original musical theatre number that showcased just how far she's come. "I am most proud of, honestly, the one thing I didn't win, which was the talent show," Minj says. "I absolutely loved that, because it felt like it was finally an opportunity to show the entire world exactly who I am as a performer that I hadn't been able to do in 10 years on Drag Race up to that point."Minj was so focused on devoting her energy to the challenges that antagonism from her fellow competitors washed right over her. Despite some prodding in the werkroom and during Untucked from Season 15 alum Mistress Isabelle Brooks, Minj kept her cool and refused to engage. She maintains now that "there was no tension between us.""It was all very one-sided. And when I saw it play out on television, I knew that that she was poking the bear," Minj says. "But honestly, I was so hyper-focused on what I had to do that I wasn't paying attention. So, I didn't even know it was as big of a deal as it actually was in-person."Minj is taking a similar approach to the online backlash over her victory. While disagreements are always expected among fans, the queen has been the target of an especially intense brigade of viewers upset by her win, with some claiming she was favored by producers or that she shouldn't have been allowed to compete on four seasons in the first place. Minj says she's handling negative comments "exactly the same way as I handled Mistress" by simply not engaging with them. "I just don't pay attention to the negativity," she says. "Why would I? If I had been crowned 10 years ago, that version of myself probably would have been completely embroiled in the entire mix of it, but at the place that I am in my life now and I fought so hard to get here I'm not going to sacrifice any of my peace or my happiness for people who are just looking for an excuse to be miserable.""As long as I just keep kind of focusing on all of the love that is there surrounding me and there's so much love and positivity swirling around me at all times I'm just feeding off of that and then letting the monsters eat themselves," Minj adds.See on InstagramNow that she's finally won Drag Race, Minj isn't interested in following the paths of other former contestants by going on reality shows like The Traitors, mainly because "I'm not a good liar." Instead, she says she would love to participate in vocal competitions like The Masked Singer or Show Me Your Voice. Her dream role is to star in Harvey Fierstein's breakthrough 1983 musical, La Cage aux Folles, which was the first hit Broadway musical about a gay relationship."Especially now with today's political climate, I really want to star in a Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles," Minj says. "I've done the show a couple times before. ... It's sad, but it's also really interesting that over four decades after that show was written and produced, it's even more timely and relevant right now."Even in the face of anti-LGBTQ+ or anti-drag laws, the queen isn't slowing down. Minj will be hitting the road this fall alongside former Drag Race contestants Jujubee and Sapphira Cristl for their Hokus Pokus Live tour, and expects more opportunities to come as her success grows. "I was born and raised in Leesburg, Florida, which is an hour north of Orlando and 45 years behind it culturally," Minj says. "Even though it was really rough growing up, it gave me a lot of coping skills as I got older to look three steps ahead and see where things are going. That's just how I'm taking it day by day, trying to look ahead, see what's down the pike, and if there's anything I can do to change it."

Malcolm-Jamal Warner leaves behind an enduring HIV legacy with his groundbreaking 1992 film
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died Monday at the age of 54 while on vacation in Costa Rica, according to a statement from his family. Warners passing marks the loss of a generational icon, not just for his breakout television role but for his advocacy and work in public health during the height of the AIDS epidemic.Rising to fame in the 1980s, Warner played Theo, the only son of the Huxtable family, on the groundbreaking sitcom that redefined representation of Black life on television. The Cosby Show offered a portrait of an upper-middle-class Black family, a major shift from the eras stereotypical depictions. As the show grew in popularity, so did Warner. He received a Best Supporting Actor Emmy nomination in 1986 for his role of Theo and later became an accomplished poet and director.Warners influence stretched well beyond prime time. He took on the cause of HIV and AIDS at a time when doing so was still considered risky for an artist. In 1992, at just 22 years old, Warner directed Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS, and You, an educational film aimed at teens. It was released during a time when AIDS was still misunderstood, stigmatized, and largely ignored in media that was targeted to youth. The short film featured celebrities Magic Johnson, Arsenio Hall, Paula Abdul, Tom Cruise, Luke Perry, and others, and delivered frank, age-appropriate information about HIV transmission and prevention. It was a courageous act. At a time when talking about AIDS, especially to young people, was seen as risky, Warner chose action over silence. The film aired on network TV, circulated in schools, and became a rare tool for education in a fearful and misinformed America. For many young people, especially closeted LGBTQ+ youth, the film provided more than facts. It offered reassurance, empathy, and visibility. It acknowledged their fears in a world that largely ignored or condemned them.Though The Cosby Show would later be clouded by Bill Cosbys criminal convictions, Warner emerged from that shadow with integrity, artistry, and a deep social conscience. In recent years, he continued to act, make music, and speak out about race, identity, and culture.

  • Heavy Brown Dog In Front Of Door
    WWW.OUT.COM
Go Ask Alex: I'm older & heavy. Will a muscular escort still be into me?
Dear Alexander,At age 70, I hired an escort and sucked my first dick! It was wonderful. I chose an older escort because I am concerned about my weight, age, etc. Now I want to do a little more in my exploration, but my fantasy is the hot, muscular, hairy guy I would have gone after in my 20s. My first experience was very positive, but I am worried that another escort will judge me or not be interested. Having him perform, appear interested, and introduce me to more things is important to me. My first escort was really sweet and put me at ease, but I think I want the stud. Is that expecting too much? How do I find the right escort? What are the right questions to ask? Do I tell him about my weight (Im heavy but not obese) and age? Do I need to worry he will be grossed out when we are together? Thanks in advance.JimHey Jim, Thanks for your question. Im glad you had a great first experience with a working boy now lets get you ready for your second. I recognize this question might be controversial to Outs readers. I imagine the criticism will be what it often is of sex work: that the business must be inherently exploitative, that the sex is inauthentic and even deceptive, or that some harm must be happening somewhere, even if critics cant quite say where. But I was a sex worker for over a decade, and although all of my clients were explicitly transactional, business relationships, they still had the potential to be beautiful and affirming. Many men like you hired me, and I believe I helped some of them overcome their initial fears of sex. I believe I helped them with other, deeper things, too things like loneliness, insecurity, and isolation. Sex work can be harmful. It can be beautiful, too. The idea of sex work can be hard to work your mind around, Jim. You must try to view it as a service industry, nothing more. You pay someone to fix your car. Every few months, you pay someone to clean your teeth. Sometimes you go to a restaurant and pay people to cook for you. These are service industries. Sex work is a service industry. While its nice to have a connection with your barber, its not mandatory: Youre paying them for something, and they provide a service in turn. A good, high-quality, skilled sex worker will deliver the experience you want. They will not judge you or your body. Of course, service quality varies across the industry, just as it does with nail technicians and hairstylists and dentists. But thats why we keep looking for better nail technicians and better hairstylists and better dentists. People who buy sex dont always have a great time, but they keep shopping. A major benefit of sex work is not having to deal with questions like: Does he like me? Does he find me attractive? It does not matter if he likes you or finds you attractive. Its not hard to be a good client, and being a good client makes you valued in this business. If you are courteous, respectful of his boundaries, and pay him his stated rate up front without haggling, you will be seen as a good client, and he will be glad to meet again. Like other service industries, rate and availability can be indicators of a providers quality. If someone makes you book a month (or months) in advance, they are in demand. Cheap tattoos arent good, and cheap sex isnt good either: A good sex worker will cost you. A professional does not haggle their rate. An expensive pair of jeans costs whats on the tag. An expensive dick does, too. When sex work advocates say sex work is work, this is partly what they mean: Sex work is just a job, as legitimate as any other. Unfortunately, its an illegal job in many parts of the world, including the United States. But it is literally the worlds oldest profession its varying legal status across the globe has not stopped it and wont anytime soon. In nearly all jobs, humans must interact effectively with people they would not necessarily spend time with outside of work. Most office workers do not particularly like everyone they work with, and they dont have to. Regardless, one of the requirements of an office job is to coexist peacefully and positively with others to leave them with a good experience, to make them happy within reasonable limits and boundaries, and to enforce those boundaries when necessary. Sex work is no different. When I was a sex worker which ended two years ago after 11 years in the business I had lovely clients, but I was not interested in spending time with any of them outside of work. They were work. Do not ask the stud if hes really interested in you or if he really finds you attractive. If you cannot be content with someone acting if you cannot be happy with a performance you should not be hiring. Asking that question puts sex workers in an awkward position and forces them to either lie (so as not to lose a paying client) or tell the truth and risk hurting someones feelings and losing their business. Just dont do it. Finding a good sex worker might take time. In the process, you might pay for men who end up being lackluster. Thats fine thats part of any service industry. In every city Ive lived in, Ive had a hard time finding a good barber; I try new ones until I find a guy I like. When I find a guy, I stick with him. When you find a good guy that delivers the experience you want, stick with him and become a regular. Book him in advance, tip him when he does a good job, and always thank him for his time. Hey there! Im Alexander Cheves. Im a sex writer and former sex workerI worked in the business for over 12 years. Sarah McBride's first bill just passed Congress & not one Republican voted against it
In the U.S. House chamber where her humanity is routinely questioned, where Republican colleagues have barred her from restrooms and misgendered her on the record, Rep. Sarah McBride just passed her first bill. And she did it without a single dissenting vote. The Equal Opportunity for All Investors Act, which passed the House unanimously on Monday, would expand access to private capital markets by allowing individuals to qualify as accredited investors based on their financial knowledge, rather than just their wealth. The bill, H.R. 3339, is the first major legislative achievement for the Delaware Democrat and the first out transgender person ever elected to Congress.Related: Sarah McBride on why support for trans rights ebbed and how to build it back upIm proud to rise as a co-lead of the Equal Opportunity for All Investors Act, McBride said during Mondays floor debate. Our bill will unlock capital for entrepreneurs and small business owners whove been left out for far too long.Current SEC rules limit participation in private investment markets to people with incomes above $200,000 or assets above $1 million, excluding a primary residence. McBrides bill directs the agency to create a new qualification route, administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, through a financial literacy exam. The goal is to widen the pipeline of capital and diversify who has access to grow wealth and who receives funding.Related: As the first out trans person in Congress, Sarah McBride is ready to fight for usIn my state, the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce has told me that this legislation would help close the capital gap for diverse business owners, McBride said. The bill was co-led by Republicans Mike Flood of Nebraska and Mike Lawler of New York, as well as Democrat Cleo Fields of Louisiana. Flood, who chairs the House Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, issued a statement following the bills passage. Im grateful to see my bill receive bipartisan support at every step in the House, and it now awaits Senate consideration, Flood said. I look forward to President Trump signing this commonsense reform into law once it passes the Senate. At the beginning of the 119th Congress, Republican Speaker Mike Johnson made a rule barring transgender people from Capitol bathrooms. South Carolina U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace had made it her mission to exclude McBride, frequently misgendering her. However, McBride has chosen not to engage. McBride has faced criticism online from some in the LGBTQ+ community for not more forcefully pushing back against attacks, but has insisted that she didnt want to give Republicans the satisfaction of Bravo reality TV moments, to use her identity for attention. That appears to be working.Related: Sarah McBride defends transgender troops on House floor as Pentagon expels committed patriotsIm grateful to Representative Flood for his leadership on this bill, McBride said in a statement after the vote. This is exactly the kind of bipartisan, commonsense policy that Congress should be focused oncreating opportunity, unlocking innovation, and expanding prosperity.

  • Ernie Apreza And Kyle Labarry Gay Wedding July 2025
    WWW.OUT.COM
Kamala Harriss former spokesman celebrates his bold gay love story on his wedding day (in photos)
When Washington native Ernie Apreza and Kyle Labarry got married in Seattle on July 5, they didnt just celebrate a nearly 10-year relationship; they honored every person who had walked beside them to get there.Apreza is a seasoned political strategist who served as press secretary to then Vice President Kamala Harris during one of the most consequential and inclusive administrations in recent memory. While the couples wedding was personal, it was also unavoidably political: a declaration of love and visibility at a time when LGBTQ+ rights are once again under attack. From the flower arrangements hand-crafted by Labarry's mom to the Mexican food prepared using Apreza's mothers recipes, the ceremony was a deliberate blend of traditions, cultures, and chosen family. There were definitely a lot of details we needed to sort out the week of, Apreza told The Advocate. And the feedback we got was that all those little details were noticed. But long before they were planning boutonnieres and writing vows, they were just two guys new to Seattle, each quietly trying to find a sense of community.I had moved to Seattle in May of 2015 to start a job there, Apreza said. Even though Im from Washington, I grew up in a small town a couple of hours north. Id never actually lived in Seattle. And I had just recently come out. So there was this element of trying to figure out my place. That same summer, Labarry, who is from Nevada, relocated from Reno. We both happened to be on Grindr, Apreza said with a chuckle. But I think we had both reached the point of like, I dont know if hookups is the first impression I want to make. I was just looking for one or two friends. They met for beers on a Wednesday night at what was then called Belltown Pub. It wasnt really a date, Labarry said. It was more of a first connection. We both went into it not expecting to be dating.Instead, they became part of a small pod of friends, attending shows, eating dinner together, and growing closer. There was a night when we all went out, and Ernie and I found each other on the dance floor, a little bit tipsy and slightly away from the other members of the group, Labarry recalled. And thats when we kissed for the first time. The rest unfolded gradually. We hung out outside of the group, just the two of us, in secret for a couple of months, Labarry said. We didnt want to introduce something if it wasnt something, because we knew it could affect our whole group. From the start, there was a spark. He just has a really cute smile, Labarry said. And hes a little jokester. When we met, he was chatting it up, looking all cute with his little smile, and saying things that made me laugh.Apreza was just as taken. It wasnt framed as a romantic date, but I thought he was cute, he said. And I liked that hes from Sparks, Nevada. Not fully small town, but he has that down-to-earth vibe I connected with, especially given my own upbringing. They would go on to live together in Seattle, then Denver, then Las Vegas. They spent stretches of time apart, especially when Apreza joined the Hillary Clinton campaign and later the Biden-Harris campaign. Thats when things got serious, fast. When I worked for the vice president, it was seven days a week, often from 5:30 in the morning until 9 at night, Apreza said. We have a puppy. Theres just no way I wouldve been able to do that work if it hadnt been for Kyles support. From being a sounding board on frustrating days to making sure we ate dinner, I credit Kyle with enabling me to do what Ive done."Labarry, for his part, said it never felt like a sacrifice. Were both independent people who know what we want, he said. Because we love each other, we just do what it takes. It just came easily. I knew what we needed to do to make it happen. The couple now resides in Washington, D.C., with Gigi, their seven-year-old Golden Retriever. Apreza, 36, whose last day with Harris was on Inauguration Day in January, recently started a new position with The Climate Pledge, a sustainability initiative co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism. Its more engagement-focused, he said. Ill be leading on engagement for Latin America.Labarry, 39, works in compliance for a mobile gaming company. When hes not hard at work, he can be found above the clouds, literally. Labarry recently earned his commercial pilots license and said that flying single-engine planes and sharing the freedom of the skies with others in the cockpit brings joy to the hobby pilot. At home, the pair clashes over some habits. Apreza is constantly late to personal events; Labarry prides himself on being punctual. Labarry loves Judge Judy; Apreza loathes it. Apreza is a sci-fi fanatic. I love Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Harry Potter, he said. Kyle doesnt care for anything sci-fi. He called Star Wars junk at Disneyland, in the middle of the Star Wars section. Apreza added, His friends roasted him for it.And while Apreza takes pride in looking sharp at public events, whether on official duty or as a guest, Labarry, he said, once showed up to a White House holiday reception in what he swears were sweats. I was not in sweats, Labarry laughed. But I was the only person not wearing a suit. The differences only underscore how in sync they are where it matters most, especially when it comes to family.I grew up and lived with my nuclear family, Labarry said. But there was a family down the street from me, Jen and her parents. Ive known Jen since fourth grade. As I got older, I made a conscious decision to spend more time with them. His home life was complicated. My dad was a lot. I was a lot. There were issues, including substance abuse. And while my upbringing wasnt bad, we went to Disneyland every year, I realized that my nuclear family wasnt the best role models for me.So he made a choice. From high school on, I started going on family vacations with Jens family. I spent holidays with them. And when my parents eventually both passed away, they became my family. Theyre the ones who walked me down the aisle.I always say Im unofficially adopted into a Korean and Chinese household, Labarry, who is white, added. Theyre the people I call my family. That worldview left a deep impression on Apreza. There are so many norms in Mexican-American culture around what family is, he said. Theres a strong emphasis on blood. And here was this man with an incredible bond with people who werent blood-related, but who might as well be. It widened my perspective.Apreza came out at 26. Labarry met his family the following year, before Apreza left Seattle to join the Clinton campaign. They warmed up to Kyle very quickly, Apreza said. We both prioritize family. That made it easy to connect. The wedding was rich with personal touches and cultural layers. Labarry's mom, Beth, designed the flowers. Apreza's parents small business, Nettos Market, catered the food. It was authentic Mexican food using my moms recipes, Apreza said. That was meaningful because so many of our guests had never been to Washington. They included a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, serving both sets of parents, something Apreza wasnt familiar with at first. Its a moment where you demonstrate respect to elders, he said. It was another neat cultural aspect of the day.During the mother-son dances, Apreza said, There wasnt a dry eye in the room. And when it came time to open the dance floor, friends surprised them with a fully choreographed routine to Chappell Roans Pink Pony Club. They did it flawlessly, Apreza said. I felt so much love from them in that moment."The couple capped the night with an after-party at the bar, now under a different name, where they first met in 2015. We were able to end the night kind of where it all started, Apreza said. The next morning, they were still talking about the welcome barbecue held the night before the ceremony. Typically, when Ernie and I have a birthday or a party, we barbecue for everyone, Labarry said. We were going to do that again, but so many people came up and said, Go enjoy your guests. Let us do it. It was just really heartwarming. People cared more about us enjoying the party than sticking to a plan.During the reception, Labarry shared a story about Apreza showing up for him. And we said, We could tell a personal story about every one of you in this room where you showed up for us, or we showed up for you, he said. That was the kind of room we wanted. When asked whether Vice President Harris had reached out, Apreza smiled: My address was requested. The couple also confirmed that theyre planning to grow their family. We have little embryos, Labarry said. Its just a matter of time until we find that amazing angel of a surrogate. In a political era where LGBTQ+ rights are once again under attack, neither Apreza nor Labarry takes their wedding a day after the Fourth of July, or its symbolism, for granted. For me, the wedding was important to have for personal reasons, Apreza said. But also for patriotic reasons. I think its important to be very declarative: that we, as people, are here. That we are Americans. That we deserve equal protection under the law.Labarry added, There could be a whole generation of LGBTQ+ people coming up who never felt or understood what it was like not to have the right to marry. And thats beautiful, but it could be taken away. No one should take it for granted. It takes everybody staying in the fight. The couple isnt rushing into a honeymoon. We have a friend getting married in October, Apreza said. We might tack on a few days and do a little mini-moon.Keep scrolling to see a few more photos from Apreza & Labarry's special day. This visual collection was assembled by equalpride's digital photo editor, Nikki Aye.

Bob the Drag Queen says, 'No one should be speaking to Charlie Kirk'
Bob the Drag Queen has spoken!Broadway star and drag legend Bob the Drag Queen appeared on MSNBC this weekend and had strong critiques of California Gov. Gavin Newsom for talking to far-right agitators like Charlie Kirk. Bob appeared on MSNBC's The Weekend: Primetime with Ayman Mohyeldin and Antonia Hylton, and the segment began with a discussion on the Trump administration shutting down the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services."I'm really afraid of what the outcome will be. I mean, obviously, mental health is really important, especially when it comes to mental health surrounding suicidal ideology and how hard it can be to get through something like that," Bob said. "Obviously, when you're in that state of mind, you're going to end up needing some help. And it feels really upsetting that that will not be provided to people who need it now."Mohyeldin then mentioned that some Democrats, including Newsom, have begun to pivot on their views on trans people."He's been going on right-wing media, speaking to Charlie Kirk and others, and basically calling out the Democrats and his party for taking a position of being pro-trans," Mohyeldin said."Can I just say, speaking to Charlie Kirk is never a good idea," Bob replied. "No one should be speaking to Charlie Kirk. I don't know if we still do that kind of social isolation. We've all just agreed that this is one person we will not be speaking to. But I do believe Charlie Kirk is that person."Bob also questioned if Newsom actually knows any trans people."I will say this: No one who actually knows a trans person would ever go around saying and doing these things," Bob continued. "And I mean, actually knows Your partner, your children, your parents, your cousin, your best friend, like, people you see on a daily basis."In March, Newsom came under fire from LGBTQ+ advocates when he hosted Kirk on his podcast.Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, has spent years demonizing trans people and continued to push his agenda on the podcast episode. At one point, he asked if Newsom agreed with him that trans athletes have an unfair advantage."I think it's an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that," Newsom replied. "It is an issue of fairness, it's deeply unfair I revere sports. So, the issue of fairness is completely legit."This July, Newsom faced more criticism when he appeared on the conservative podcast the Shawn Ryan Show. On the podcast, Newsom continued to capitulate on trans issues."That's now no longer about celebrating your rights. It's about denying other people theirs," Newsom said. Marriage equality was about everyone's right [...] But your child may not have that same opportunity to get on the podium if a trans athlete is competing."Bob the Drag Queen isn't the only celebrity to call out Newsom and his trans rights pivot. Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings recently said he will never vote for Newsom, even if he's the Democratic nominee for president."Any candidate cynically 'triangulating' on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so," Jennings said. "There's still so much time to advance candidates that DON'T suck."

Fellow YouTuber Tana Mongeau guessed Poseidon, which she said wasn't the correct name. Previously, Paytas hinted that her baby would have an aquatic-themed name. @tanamongeaulol i forgot poseidon. She watched a livestream while she was in labor. This led her to mention that people guessed she would name her baby after the band's lead singer, Gerard Way (or Gerard Wave), but confirmed that wasn't the baby's name. She goes on to eliminate other popular guesses, such as Titanic, Oceangate, Ponyo, Nemo, Aquamarine, Jaws, Blue, and Ocean. The video, released using the premieres feature, which allows it to function like a broadcast that fans can comment on in real-time, garnered over 102,000 viewers and was flooded with comments. "Aquaman is crazy," one person commented. "I feel like we've been pranked," another person wrote. However, there were numerous comments from people sharing their affection for the name. "No, it's so cute," a viewer commented. For years, Paytas has been a beloved figure in the LGBTQ+ community. She's released some campy songs, like "I Love You Jesus" and "Gay," which featured some of the drag queens from this past season of RuPaul's Drag Race, such as Kori King and Jewels Sparkles. In 2021, she came out as non-binary and primarily used they/them pronouns. However, she has since updated her pronouns on Instagram to she/they.Paytas knows that her fans were curious about the baby names she was considering and shared a TikTok with some options earlier this month, knowing she was going to have a boy. "I like Lemon and I like Papermate. I like Squeezie and Squooshie," she said in the video, rattling off name ideas. "I also like Rainbow Sherbet." She added, "I also love Benihana for a name." @trishlikefish88 She has expressed in the past that gender doesn't play much of a factor when it comes to choosing her baby names. In a January 2024 video, she said that "Elvis rocked so much harder as a girl name."

Laverne Cox reveals she dated 'blue-eyed MAGA republican voter' for three years
Laverne Cox has opened up about her love life, and many of her fans are feeling betrayed. In a teaser for her upcoming one-woman show, Gurrl, How Did I Get Here, Cox revealed that she was in a relationship with a "blonde-haired, blue-eyed MAGA republican voter who is a New York City police officer" for nearly four years.See on InstagramCox's one-woman show opens July 28 at City Winery in New York City. She teased that she would be talking about her former relationships, including with a man who was 22 years younger than her. "We were madly in love. I did not develop any of his politics. I still have my own," she said.Cox's followers and fans quickly responded. Many felt betrayed that Cox would form such a long relationship with someone who voted for and supported a transphobic, racist, fascist president and works for an institution that has targeted Black and trans people for over a hundred years."'We were in love' you sure about that sis? When someone loves you, they honor and respect who you are, your experiences and will fight for your right to exist. His politics say otherwise. Just tell us the D was good, thats more believable." @kanyaac129 said."So he voted against everything you are?? AND you're okay with that?" @ravetravelretreat added.See on InstagramCox followed up with an over 50-minute Instagram Live session, where she opened up further about the relationship, her reasons for being in it, and the criticisms she was receiving from fans.In the video, Cox acknowledged that "the children are gagging" about the relationship, and she didn't expect the reaction to be so extreme. She explained that she met her ex-boyfriend on Tinder, and when they started dating, she didn't know his political views or his profession, but fell in love with him as a person."He has a beautiful soul and has really beautiful qualities," she said. When his beliefs came out, Cox felt a strong connection and was "attempting to see his humanity beyond" his politics. She also acknowledged that maybe she was being naive in the relationship."I fell in love with someone who voted for a fascist regime... But he was complicated, and he fell in love with me. And neither of us expected that to happen," she said.Still, despite him voting for a party that wants to eliminate people like Cox from public life, it was the best relationship she ever had, and the irony of that was "shocking."Cox said she felt like people in the comments were dehumanizing those who have different political beliefs, and she doesn't believe that is the way forward."Dehumanizing anyone is not consistent with my values. Fascism is not consistent with my values. I am an anti-fascist. I never adapted any of my exes' politics. I always challenged him with love and empathy often corrected him with facts, and I wanted to see if it was possible to have a relationship with someone who had different political beliefs."While Cox acknowledged that the MAGA movement dehumanizes people like her, she insisted her ex-boyfriend did not."This dude was dating me; he was in love with me. He didn't want to erase me," she said.Cox added that "the good things about the relationship were so good that I was willing to work with the politics that I don't agree with."Still, many fans said Cox was engaging in "fascist apologia" for saying that not everyone who voted for Trump or supports him is a fascist. They argued that you can see someone as a human without being their friend or romantic partner. As the Republican party continued to escalate its attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, people of color, and women, the relationship started to strain.Cox said the two of them broke up in March 2024, and as the election got closer, it "became more difficult to be magnanimous with him." Then, when some of his implicit racial biases "came out" towards the end of the relationship, "that was the end."She added that she doesn't "think I'd be able to be in a relationship with him this year."Cox said that she knows people won't understand, and she is still processing the relationship, but she doesn't regret leaning into love.

BREAKING: U.S. Olympic Committee bars trans women from competing, aligning with Trump executive order
The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee has barred transgender women from competing in womens sports, complying with an executive order from Donald Trump. The committee quietly changed its eligibility rules on Monday, The New York Times reports, with a short, vaguely worded paragraph outlining the new policy. The paragraph says the committee is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in sport and will work with the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, and the national governing bodies of each Olympic sport to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act.Executive Order 14201, signed by Trump on February 5, opposes the presence of trans women the order refers to them as men in womens sports and threatens federal funding to schools and athletic associations that are trans-inclusive. Trump preceded the signing with a rambling speech filled with falsehoods about trans athletes, saying they have won "more than 3,500 victories" and "invaded more than 11,000 competitions." Neither statement is true.He also claimed that "a male boxer stole the womens gold medal" at the Paris Olympics after supposedly "brutalizing his female opponent so viciously that she had to forfeit." Trump was apparently referring to Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who became the target of bigoted rumors by right-wing influencers who claimed she was trans, although she is not.The National Collegiate Athletic Association quickly changed its rules to bar trans women from womens sports, even though only a handful of trans athletes were competing at NCAA schools. The Olympic committee had previously allowed each sports governing body to set rules for trans participation. In a statement emailed to the Times Tuesday, the committee said that indeed, the policy had changed, because as a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations. The committee had several conversations with federal officials before making the change. The Ted Stevens Act, authored by the late U.S. senator from Alaska, established the U.S. Olympic Committee. The National Women's Law Center was quick to denounce the committee's move. "Without any process or clarity about its decision, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has let Trump rewrite its rules in a cruel effort to deny transgender women the opportunity to participate," said a press release from the group. The world is watching with alarm at the loss of freedom and opportunity in our country, especially as the United States is expected to host future Olympic events," Law Center President and CEO Fatima Goss Graves said in the release. "The Committee will learn as so many other institutions have that there is no benefit in appeasing the endless, shifting, and petulant demands coming out of the White House.By giving into the political demands, the USOPC is sacrificing the needs and safety of its own athletes. The vagueness of the Committee's policy will leave athletes unprotected from the sort of humiliating sex-testing practices. Athletes will now be subject to intrusive questioning and demands for traumatizing physical exams as they prove they are women enough to play. The USOPC should devote its energy to the real and serious disparities harming women athletes: fewer chances to participate across all sports compared to boys and men; worse facilities, coaching, and equipment placing girls and women at greater risk of injury; and endemic sex harassment and assault perpetrated against women athletes."Story developing

"We take care of us" is more than a sloganit's the motto of our revolution
"We take care of us" is a phrase with deep roots, from the Black liberation movement to various intersectional liberation movements of today. It reflects a long-standing ethos that when mainstream systems fail to care for marginalized people, the community steps up to support one another. In the words of Sylvia Rivera, "The system is not designed to protect us, but we will protect ourselves."Our adventures took us through various queer events and marches, showcasing the full spectrum of queer experiences. We witnessed the shared joy of dancing and celebrating, the unique expressions of truth and love, and the profound ways we offer support and care to one another in times of need.June 21st, 2025Pride weekend started a week early for us with GMHC's legendary Latex Ball. Emolsa invited us to watch him walk in the Body category. The last time I attended the Latex Ball was the first weekend I moved to New York City at 17. Walking around, we admired the purposeful chaos. Every available space was overflowing with people helping each other dial in their show-stopping looks. We helped Emolsa prepare his outfit, just as we've done for each other countless times throughout our friendship. Ball culture never fails to inspire me with how showing up like true family makes anything possible."To me, 'We take care of us' looks like my friends showing upagain and againfor my ballroom scene competitions," Emolsa shared. "Not because they have to, but because they want to. Because they understood what it means for me to step onto that floorto pour my heart into every move, every look, and every battle."June 25th, 2025Wednesday evening was one of my favorite regular events, Queer Aperitivo, organized by Ora Wise. I try never to miss this because I love the kind of space Ora has been cultivating for over a decade now. One built with genuine love, intentionality, and diversity."We need spaces to gather that tend to our whole selvesnot pitting pleasure against principles or erasing our grief as we take a moment to release." Ora Wise shared with me. With the sun setting on the garden rooftop, friends and family all danced together. I connected with friends old and new. Buzzing after meeting the creator of gorgeously square-shaped cocktail jello shots, a duo of Indigenous artists, a lesbian distiller, and someone who up-cycles clothes and hosts queer art markets, among many others.June 26th, 2025After work, we walked over to Papi Juice Pride on the Christopher Street Pier. We danced until sunset with DJ Mazurbate, who skillfully blended songs from across our cultures and generations. The energy was euphoric and familial. Everyone cheered as a grandmother jumped into the voguing circle, and again when Mazurbate's mom stepped out during the final song to kiss him. "We take care of us because, in this world, community is all we have. Kindness, gratitude, and grace go a long way," Ms. Fantasia 007 reflected after voguing that night. "We can't forget that there is always the generation before us that is ready to pass the torch and the generation after us watching how we hold ourselves and each other with love and accountability."From there, we went to Eli Escobar's bar Gabriela, where Eli was spinning with our friend from New Orleans, Bouffant Bouffant. Gabriela's Romance Thursdays is a staple for us because of the emotional storytelling he curates. It's immersive and cinematic, creating an atmosphere where we can feel all our emotions: nostalgia, joy, heartbreak, and the reasons to keep living and loving. The entire staff feels like family, and it's my tradition to take a Polaroid of my girl Ekin behind the bar, where we share our latest adventures once the crowd dies down. As the night drew to a close, I found myself crying to Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You." Hearing it this time, after this song has seen me through so many intense phases of life, allowed me to have the cathartic cry I needed in Roland's arms.June 27th, 2025One of my favorite days of the year: DRAG MARCH. On the Friday of Pride weekend every year, queers don their queerest looks and gather in Tompkins Square Park to march the width of the city to Stonewall. The energy here is electric, with looks that will have you cackling from the sheer audacity and ingenuity. I love Drag March because it preserves the history that Pride was and always will be a protest. The march began in 1994, 25 years after the Stonewall riots, when Pride banned drag queens and leathermen from participating in the parade. This led activist Gilbert Baker, the creator of the Pride rainbow flag, to help organize it. Every year I attend, I fall deeper in love with my queerness and the community that surrounds it.During the march, I encountered Qween Amor channeling Mary Magdalene: carrying a boombox on wheels, waving a cross, and twerking in front of police cars. I was in awe of the freedom and courage displayed in claiming bodies as sacred; fearless, proud, and loud. "To some, protest means chaos, disruption." Qween Amor said. "They call it unpatriotic. But protest is love in action. It's people showing up to say we deserve better."June 28th, 2025On Saturday, I missed the Dyke March because I was moving into a new apartment. After getting settled into my new space, we went to Get Wrecked & Carry's magically sweaty dance party at Knockdown Center. Once I was comfortably immersed in the sweaty soup, I was once again amazed by the level of consideration that went into the experience. From the musical journey, to the lighting, to the variety of spaces that allow you to choose your own adventure. I stood outside gazing into the eyes of a new friend for what felt like an eternity, as he told me, "For some of us this is church, and we come to this place to worship." It left me feeling cleansed as I step into this next chapter of my life.June 29th, 2025Pride Sunday started with the Queer Liberation March. I love this gathering because it's a protest that reclaims the roots of Pride. It takes place simultaneously with the official parade but without corporate sponsorship or police involvement. It was filled with activists, organizers, and families coming together in love and solidarity. "Supporting our trans siblings is not a burden or a question; it is an action," said Yves Mathieu East. "And I will say yes to the action till the day I take my last breath. I showed up for trans people, and what Pride means to me is showing up for trans people."From there, we went to the Glitterbox/Tiki Disco/House of Yes Pride Party on the Greenpoint Waterfront. It was a hot day out and we had to keep each other hydrated and covered until the sun set. We ran through sprinklers and did arts and crafts like we were kids again. We decorated a white parasol that was gifted to me by my friend Diana Adams. Diana was tabling with the nonprofit Chosen Family Law Center, which offers free legal services to low-income transgender communities and queer families. There were so many of these surprise run-ins, all filled with moments of care. While looking for sunscreen, I was directed to the SafeRaveNY tent, where I met a new friend, Amethyst, who explained the grassroots organization's mission of harm reduction.Pure magic unfolded as we watched the sun set, cooling us off and revealing rainbows across the city skyline. It felt like the kind of magic we earned together. "For so many of us, the places we come from-the families, neighbors, churches, communities, etc, do not give us care," performer Glow Job shared, walking around the waterfront in rainbow stilts. "They do not teach, they do not love, they do not support, they do not care. But our queer family does that...The privilege we have as queer people is that from a scarcity of care, we have found an abundance of care together."June 30th, 2025Running on fumes, Monday night we went to my favorite drag show of all time: Sasha Velour's Nightgowns! I've been going religiously since 2017 on a fateful day when my friend Timmy had an extra ticket. I cried then, and I cry every single time. This time around, Sasha tickled us as a drag king reading Judith Butler's "Gender Trouble." (video by Justin Barton, @olivertheuniverse)Naomi Smalls had us screaming as she transitioned from a dog to a cat, and Vander gagged us with a gothic burlesque number that ended with black hearts stapled all over her body. Sasha creates a stage for drag performers to tell a transformative story. During the show, Sasha shared what we've all come to understand: "Family, new possibilities, transformation and joy is available at every corner, we just need to make it."I'm revitalized and recommitted to showing up, now more than ever, for myself and for all of us.Arranged for Out.com by Nikki Aye, Digital Photo EditorVoices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. Matt Rogers responds to Jamie Lee Curtis red carpet debate from Las Culturistas Culture Awards
The intense discourse over Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis alongside Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers in a video at the 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards has gotten an official response and clarification from the Las Culturistas cohosts.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox! The fan reaction and news coverage of an interaction between the Las Culturistas cohosts and Curtis was addressed by Rogers in a video from Instagram stories in which he noted this will be "our only comment on the matter.""Anything that happens on the Las Culturistas Culture Awards red carpet or purple carpet, as it were is unserious. You cannot make it serious," Rogers said. "I can't express how fun it is to watch it get, like, real media coverage. It's crazy. It's part of the joke. But you cannot Please don't start something between us and Jamie Lee Curtis when there's nothing there, you guys."Rogers added, "That was the first time we were meeting, and she was being funny, and we were being funny back. She came out and brought a lot of energy, and we're grateful to her. We're grateful to everyone. So, please, it's not that serious; it's the Culture Awards. I love you guys so much."In a previous video, Rogers clarified what fans can expect from the Las Culturistas podcast this week and shared some general context about how things are going. "As you can imagine, it's been a crazy week, and Bowen is in China visiting family," he explained. "We're putting together the Culture Awards kind of at the same time So we are busy, to say the least, and we're gonna take the week off the podcast."Rogers added, "We're gonna release the nominations as one big, full episode, so it'll at least be something, but we just need a break. The good news is, the Culture Awards is one of the craziest things that's ever been committed to celluloid. We're gonna deliver you a chaotic mess of a fever dream of a gay fantasia on themes.""So, thanks for understanding this week. We out," he concluded. The moment that inadvertently sparked this misunderstanding happened in a video posted by Vulture while covering the 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards purple carpet. The video, titled "What's My Line," was described as "a Vulture series where we ask what pop culture quote is stuck in your head."This particular video started with Rogers quoting Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods ("What, like it's hard?") in Legally Blonde. It then featured Yang quoting Julia Roberts as the title character in Erin Brockovich: "I'm not talking to you, bitch!"Yang's enthusiastic Erin Brockovich line delivery seemingly prompted Curtis to leave her own red-carpet interview so that she could apparently reprimand Rogers and Yang. "Listen, bring the whole fucking thing down," Curtis said while gesturing that they should be less loud."You're gonna hate this show then," Yang replied."We'll sit you in the back," Rogers added. "Hey, maybe you could bring it up!"Curtis was kidding, and so were the Las Culturistas cohosts, as clarified by Rogers in his new Instagram videos.@vultureWe asked people on the purple carpet at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards what pop culture line is stuck in their head @bowenyang @mattrogerstho @jamieleecurtis @rachelbloom @meredithmarks @joelkimbooster #AaronJackson @gertie_bird @heathergay_slc @bronwynnewportIt's also worth noting that Rogers and Yang have had a great relationship with Vulture having done recaps and interviews for the publication about reality shows like RuPaul's Drag Race, Queer Eye, and America's Next Top Model for quite a few years which certainly adds to the meta humor of this entire situation. The Las Culturistas Culture Awards 2025 ceremony airs on Tuesday, August 5, on Bravo. Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton share details on 'Wednesday' S3 and potential 'Beetlejuice 3'
Director Tim Burton and star Jenna Ortega recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview about the highly anticipated season season of the Netflix show, Wednesday, as well as news that the Netflix series would be getting a third season. (@) During their chat, the director and star traded quotes about what fans can expect from the second season, Ortega discussing the controversy she found herself at the center of during press for Wednesday season 1, and the potential for a third Beetlejuice movie.Burton told THR that he was excited to continue the story because he doesn't typically do television. "It was the idea of exploring something on a longer time frame, and shes an interesting character," he said. "As much as a middle-aged man could feel like a teenage Wednesday Addams, I feel those things. And shes a character thats all about being subtle because she doesnt really have a huge range of emotions."Ortega agreed, and the conversation continued to discuss her accidental controversy in which she discussed "changing lines" and "had to put [her] foot down" because "everything [she] had to play did not make sense for the character." Looking back, she said she felt terrible about the way her words came across. "In no way did I mean to come across that way. I spend a lot of time in my head, and I have all these different trains of thought, and all I needed to say was, 'I improvise.' Also, nobody, before, ever cared what I said. It was a good lesson." The showrunner added that Ortega is now a producer on the show and has more creative control. The interviewer also mentioned the news from Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairman/CEO Mike De Luca stating that development for Beetlejuice 3 was "starting imminently." Neither Ortega nor Burton seemed to know what the interviewer was talking about. "Really? Nobody told me. Maybe I've been replaced," Burton said. "Maybe I've been, too. Maybe [her character] Astrid dies and goes to heaven instead [of the films' Netherworld]. They should just take Baby Beetlejuice on tour and send him to Hawaii," Ortega joined in to say.Burton said the sequel took 35 years to make, so he'd be 105 before the next movie got made. "It's like trying to re-create the Wednesday dance scene," Burton added, noting that he'd love to make a third movie but had reservations. "I love the characters, but I don't necessarily see it."Season 2 of Netflix's Wednesday will arrive to the streaming service in two parts: Part one on August 6 and part two on September 3.

'Clown in a Cornfield' has a surprising gay storylineand it's streaming soon
As horror fans anxiously await news on the official release date for Tina Romeros Queens of the Dead a queer horror film about drag queens versus zombies theres a recent queer-laced slasher flick thats not only coming to Shudder on August 8, but its also available to rent right now. Its called Clown in a Cornfield, and unless youre a horror enthusiast, it probably wasnt on your radar. The sleeper-hit slasher, which is about a group of Midwestern high school teens who are terrorized by a local legend named Frendo the Clown, first made a bloody splash when it premiered at SXSW back in March, and it went on to receive a theatrical release on May 9. Even though it was sandwiched between the release of Marvels Thunderbolts and the insanely successful and critically praised Sinners, it still earned a commendable 73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and scared up $3.6 million during its opening weekend, which isnt too shabby for a film with a $1 million budget (it went on to earn $7.2 million at the domestic box office, $10.7 worldwide). While Clown in a Cornfield is by no means a gay production nor is it a full-fledged queer horror film in the vein of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, its certainly a bloody good time thats worthy of being on your list of queer-laced horror flicks due to its LGBTQ+ representation which can be traced back to its source material. Based on the trilogy of books by author Adam Cesare, the film does feature two gay male leads, and theres even a well-executed coming-out subplot in the film (but since we dont want to spoil it, we wont say who). Let's just say that horror films dont always have to leave you rooting for the final girl theres also room for a final boy (or two). Verity Marks, Cassandra Potenza, and Katie Douglas in Eli Craigs CLOWN IN A CORNFIELDCourtesy of RLJE Films & ShudderIts also not exactly obvious who the gay characters are either. These guys, while certainly hunky and easy on the eye arent walking stereotypes and the gay romance subplot itself feels natural its never cliche or pounded in your face and comes as sort of a third-reel surprise, although the signs are there. While speaking with The AU Review, director Eli Craig (best known for helming 2010s delightfully witty and gory Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) commented on the subtleness of the coming-out reveal and how its good for general audiences to encounter gay characters in any type of movie. Because my youngest brother is very openly gay, and I think that, to be honest with you, the best versions of movies for gay rights were the ones that werent trying to make a point, he told the outlet after they complimented him about how natural the gay reveal came off. I feel like things that are just there to make a message dont break through to gay people. Its good for people that are not going to see an LGBTQ movie at all to just have gay characters that arent a theme of the movie. Its just an element of it. Frendo the Clown in Eli Craigs CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD.Courtesy of RLJE Films & ShudderEven though Clown in the Cornfield was a box office success, so far, theres no official word on a greenlit sequel. But if fans do get one, there are still two more books in the franchise to adapt: Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives and Clown in a Cornfield 3: Church of Frendo. And yes, those two aforementioned gay leads are front and center in the second book. In fact, Cesare also introduces a transgender character named Jerri in Frendo Lives, so if a sequel is greenlit, Clown in the Cornfield 2 will very likely be another inclusive, queer-laced splatterfest that gay horror fans can look forward to.In addition to its Shudder streaming premiere date on August 8, RLJE Films also announced that Clown in a Cornfield will be available in SteelBook 4k Ultra-High Definition, Blu-ray, and DVD formats on September 16. The film is also available to rent now on Prime Video.

French President Macron sues Candace Owens for defamation over claims his wife is transgender
French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron have filed a defamation lawsuit in Delaware against right-wing commentator Candace Owens, alleging that she orchestrated a campaign of global humiliation by falsely claiming Brigitte, 72, is a transgender woman and that the French president, 47, is part of a CIA mind control experiment. The 218-page complaint, filed Wednesday in Delaware Superior Court, accuses Owens of using her social media platforms and podcast to spread knowingly false, transphobic conspiracy theories for profit. The Macrons are seeking compensatory and punitive damages and have requested a jury trial, according to Reuters.Related: France's first lady Brigitte Macron awarded nearly $9,000 in damages after transvestigationThe lawsuit centers on Owens eight-part YouTube series Becoming Brigitte, which has garnered more than 2.3 million views, and includes repeated assertions that Brigitte Macron was assigned male at birth under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, her actual brothers name. Owens also claimed the Macrons are blood relatives and described Emmanuel Macron as the result of a CIA human experimentation program, a reference to the debunked MKUltra project, according to The Financial Times.Every time the Macrons leave their home, they do so knowing that countless people have heard, and many believe, these vile fabrications, the lawsuit states. The complaint describes Owenss conduct as invasive, dehumanizing, and deeply unjust. The lawsuit notes that Owens ignored multiple cease-and-desist letters and continued amplifying the claims. Owens has dissected their appearance, their marriage, their friends, their family, and their personal history twisting it all into a grotesque narrative designed to inflame and degrade, the Macrons wrote in their filing.Related: Right-winger Candace Owens promotes 'terrifying' theory that France's first lady is transFaced with this relentless and unjustified smear campaign, the Macrons are left with no choice but to seek relief through this Court to set the record straight, prevent further harm, and hold Defendants accountable for their conduct, the lawsuit states.Attorney Thomas Clare, representing the couple, told FT that they are prepared to travel to Delaware to testify. They believe its important to stand up for themselves, he said. Owens has had multiple opportunities to do the right thing and in response she has only mocked them.A spokesperson for Owens, who has a long history of spreading misinformation about transgender people and LGBTQ+ issues, told the publication she would respond on her podcast Wednesday. It is not Brigitte Macrons first legal battle over false transphobic claims. In September, a French court awarded her nearly $9,000 in damages after conspiracy theorists falsely claimed she was her brother and had transitioned. Although she initially won in court, the decision was later overturned on appeal.

David Geffen sued by estranged husband Donovan Michaels, accused of 'exploitation'
David Geffen is being sued by his estranged husband, Donovan Michaels, who is accusing the out gay billionaire of exploitation and breach of contract. Michaels, 32, filed the lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, alleging that Geffen, 82, exploited a vulnerable, marginalized young gay Black man as a wealthy, powerful white gay billionaire who believed himself untouchable," as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Geffen told Michaels he loved him and the two would treat one another as life partners, share all assets equally, and Geffen would support Michaels financially for life," the lawsuit states. "Michaels gave up his dreams his modeling career, his independence to dedicate himself fully to this promise.Geffen met Michaels on the dating website SeekingArrangements.com, according to the suit, and paid the aspiring model $10,000 for sex their first night together. What started as a sexual relationship turned romantic, and the two married in 2023 with no prenup."What Michaels did not know at the time was that this was nothing more than a transaction to Geffen," the filing continues, adding that like the plot of the movie Trading Places, began treating Michaels as a living social experiment a trophy to show off to his wealthy friends, under the guise of benevolence.Michaels, who grew up in the foster care system, said that Geffen would often make back-handed insults and put-downs about his past and lack of sophistication. He accused he billionaire of forcing him to get painful laser treatments and dental treatments," but said that Geffen still critiqued every aspect of Michaels appearance and carefully controlled Michaels with respect to all aspects of his body hygiene."Michaels also accused Geffen of requiring sexual access at will, including acts Michaels found degrading," and giving him drugs and alcohol as tools of coercion lowering his resistance and increasing his dependency," which resulted in him developing an addiction.Rather than respond with empathy or offer genuine support, Geffen saw Michaels as an object of exploitation," the suit reads, adding, "[Geffen] did not want a healthier Michaels. He wanted control and submission. He wanted to be the savior, the white knight, and the top.'Geffen filed for divorce in April, citing "irreconcilable differences." Michaels filed a response in May requesting spousal support. The lawsuit claims that Geffen breached an oral agreement between the couple "by denying Michaels full financial support" and demanding that he "immediately vacate the New York residence, which would effectively render Michaels homeless. In addition to evicting Michaels, Geffen also cut him off from his status quo financial support, making it impossible for Michaels to secure an appropriate living situation and provide for his daily necessities," the suit claims.Geffen has not yet commented publicly on the lawsuit.

What is a 'lesbian bottom?' LGBTQ+ sex experts explain & give tips for how to do it right
The terms bottom and top have been around since the gay leather scene got its start in the 50s, but while most people know what it means when youre talking about gay sex terms to differentiate between someone who likes to be penetrated during sex and the one who wants to penetrate what is a lesbian bottom? The terms top and bottom may have been coined by and for gay men, but the broader queer community and especially sapphics have taken to using the terms to describe sexual dynamics too. Even the straights have tried to co-opt the terms, though they consistently get it wrong and conflate top and bottom with dominant and submissive. They clearly have never met a bossy bottom, power bottom, or service top. But it can get complicated in sapphic relationships because queer women are more likely to both give and receive sexual pleasure in a relationship, unless they are a stone top or a pillow princess. And while being a bottom usually refers to a preference in positions, it can also be shorthand for a sexual dynamic especially in sapphic relationships. So what exactly is a "lesbian bottom?" To figure it all out, we talked to LGBTQ+ sex and relationship experts to find out what a lesbian bottom really is, and some tips and tricks for being the best lesbian bottom around. What is a lesbian bottom?Ok, so you know what gay men mean when they say theyre a bottom, but what is a lesbian bottom? When sapphics or lesbians talk about being a bottom,' theyre typically referring to a partner who enjoys receiving touch, sensation, or stimulation during sex whether thats physical or emotional, Emily Lambert Robins, a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT-certified sex therapist, tells PRIDE. Its less about a rigid role and more about a preference for surrender, receptivity, and being attuned to what feels good when letting someone else take the lead. These terms seem simpler when a dick is in play, and penetration is usually on the sexual menu, but for sapphics, it can look a little different. For some, that can look like being on the receiving end of oral sex, strap play, or sensual touch. For others, it might be more about an emotional dynamic rooted in trust, vulnerability, and responsiveness, Robins continues. Just like some people try to peg bottoms as always being submissive and tops as always dominant, people tend to pigeonhole butch and femme lesbians into specific roles in the bedroom, but butch bottoms and femme tops do exist. What's important to note here is that these terms reflect identities that help people understand and communicate to others what they find fulfilling, pleasurable, or affirming, explains Willow Sipling, an LGBT advocate, subject matter expert, and sociologist. Is it all about positions?Sexual positions are just part of the picture. Lesbian tops are more likely to be the one strapping, or giving oral sex, but thats not all the term encompasses. While physical positions may play a role, being a bottom often speaks to a certain energetic position: one of openness, willingness, and connection, Robins says. Some bottoms love being guided or done to, while others express strong preferences and communicate boundaries clearly. Its a dance of power, trust, and pleasure that can look different depending on the relationship, mood, or moment. The key is how the experience makes someone feel, not how it looks from the outside.According to Byrd, a certified sex educator who specializes in queerness from Sex Ed With Byrd, lesbian bottoms also want to relinquish control. Being a lesbian bottom isnt just about who's receiving or whos on the bottom physically, they explain. Among lesbians and sapphics, bottoming often blends physicality, sensation, emotional dynamics, and power play, but it doesnt always include all of those at once. For some, its a preference for receiving pleasure. For others, its about being submissive in bed. And sometimes, its just a playful label that helps describe a dynamic thats hard to name otherwise. What makes a good lesbian bottom?A good lesbian bottom doesnt need to perform in a specific way, Robins says, but should be present, communicative, and connected to their body and be self aware enough to know what feels good and what doesnt, is open to trying new things, expresses both boundaries sand desires clearly, and is responsive in bed so that your top can understand your desire by paying attention to your word, sounds, or movement.Women, and femme presenting people, are socialized to be giving and helpful and so it can be difficult to set that social conditions aside be a little greedy about your own pleasure, but Byrd points out that being a good lesbian bottom means allowing yourself to receive, without guilt or pressure to perform.Tips for improving your bottoming skillsPlay with power dynamics! For some lesbians and sapphics, bottoming and submission are connected. That can be explored through dirty talk, light restraints, or role playalways consensually, Robins recommends.Dont wait for your partner to guess what feels good. Do some cool exploring if you need to before bringing a partner into the equation.Use your words! Sounds are great, but throw in a Yes, just like that, slower, or right there so your top knows what feels good. This goes for if something hurts or is uncomfortable too.Explore sensation and pleasure, not just climax. You dont have to be goal-oriented to have a satisfying experience, Byrd says. But what if its your first time?Choose a sexual partner who respects you, your voice, and the pace you want to go at in bed. Bottoming requires a level of surrender that is easier if you trust your partner.Control your breathing to help with those pesky first-time nerves. Slow, intentional breathing can help calm nerves, increase sensation, and keep you present during intimacy. If you notice yourself tensing or holding your breath, try exhaling gently and resetting, Robins recommends.Be honest about being new to this. It might help you rid yourself of some of your nerves to be up front about your level of experience, and it will help your partner create a better experience for you.Dont stress about perfection. This is your first time, and youre still learning, so try to focus more on exploration and playfulness than your performance.Make sure to spend some time on aftercare. Cuddling, laughing together, and talking through the experience can help you reconnect to your partner after the intense experience of bottoming for the first time. There can never be enough lube!Biggest mistake lesbian bottoms makeLesbian bottoms often make the mistake of performing, instead of focusing on their authentic reactions. Its also important not to push past or ignore your own bounders in an attempt to please your top, this will just lead to a bad experience for everyone involved.Theres also a misconception that bottoming means being passive, but in reality, a connected and attuned bottom is fully engaged, just in a more receptive, responsive way. The most satisfying experiences come from knowing your limits, communicating clearly, and staying present with your own pleasure, Robins explains.Sipling agrees, Many tops receive gratification from pleasing the bottom they are having an encounter with. For one to know what gets them going, and then to communicate this information with a top, can lead to a satisfying encounter for everyone. What should you do if you get performance anxiety?"Its completely normal to feel nervous stepping into a new role, especially when it involves vulnerability, trust, and intimacy, Robins assures. Performance anxiety often shows up when we put pressure on ourselves to do things right, but bottoming isnt about getting it perfectits about being present and attuned to your own experience. If youre feeling nervous, talk to your partner about it, and be honest about what is freaking you out. If nerves are getting the best of you, try lying back and receiving a massage or kiss, and build from there, instead of committing to using toys, penetrative sex, or exploring power dynamics on night one, Byrd says.Remind yourself that theres no script to follow. You get to define what bottoming means for you, at your own pace, with consent and care leading the way, Robins agrees.Experts Cited:Emily Lambert Robins, a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT-certified sex therapist.Willow Sipling, an LGBT advocate, subject matter expert, and sociologist.Byrd, a certified sex educator who specializes in queerness from Sex Ed With Byrd.

Trump (not drag queens) appears in Epstein files & DOJ told him months ago, The Wall Street Journal reports
President Donald Trumps name appears multiple times in documents reviewed by the Department of Justice during its internal investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Wednesday afternoon. Senior administration officials said Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche informed the president of this during a private White House meeting in May.Yet Trump has publicly claimed otherwise. On July 15, during a gaggle with reporters at the White House, an ABC News journalist asked him directly: Specifically, did [Bondi] tell you at all that your name appeared in the files? No, no, shesshes given us just a very quick briefing, Trump said, adding that Bondi had really done a very good job, handling the Epstein situation.Related: As Trump faces escalating Epstein scandal, Marjorie Taylor Greene targets drag queensThe Wall Street Journal report confirmed that Trumps name was among many found in the DOJs Epstein records, which officials characterized as containing hearsay and unverified claims about individuals who had associated with Epstein before his 2006 state-level conviction. The Justice Department concluded the material did not contain sufficient grounds for prosecution and opted to withhold it, citing both the presence of child sexual abuse material and the need to protect victim identities.Bondi and Blanche told the Journal, As part of our routine briefing, we made the President aware of the findings. They said Trump agreed with the DOJs decision to withhold further disclosures. Also on Wednesday, a federal judge in Florida denied the Trump administrations effort to unseal transcripts from two grand juries convened in 2005 and 2007 as part of Epsteins early federal investigation. The Justice Department had petitioned the court just days earlier, on July 17, to make the records public, arguing that the documents are of significant historical interest and enduring public importance given the governments past handling of the Epstein case.Related: Trump sues Murdoch, News Corp, and WSJ over Epstein storyIn that filing, the DOJ wrote that release of the requested materials will shed important light on the role of federal prosecutors and the grand jury system in an extraordinary case involving an infamous figure, alleged to have committed grave and repeated crimes. They further argued that many of the usual reasons for grand jury secrecy no longer apply, especially given Epsteins 2019 death and the publics long-standing scrutiny of the case. But U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenberg ruled that the court lacked authority under Eleventh Circuit precedent to grant the petition. Eleventh Circuit law does not permit this Court to grant the Governments request; the Courts hands are tieda point the Government concedes, she wrote in a 12-page decision. Rosenberg also denied the DOJs request to transfer the case to the Southern District of New York, where Second Circuit precedent may allow greater flexibility. The Justice Department has also said it is seeking a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epsteins longtime associate who was convicted in 2021 of child sex trafficking and is currently serving a 20-year sentence.Related: Wall Street Journal reports Trump once sent Jeffrey Epstein a 'bawdy' birthday letterThe administrations reversal has enraged many of Trumps supporters, who for years believed the Epstein files would expose Democrats and global elites. Donald Trump is hiding something, said Rep. Robert Garcia, a California Democrat and the gay ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. In a July 17 interview with CNNs Kaitlan Collins, Garcia said, He spent his entire campaign talking about releasing the Epstein files instead, hes betrayed his base and his promises. This is here not because Democrats campaigned on it, not because we were talking about the Epstein files or what we thought were conspiracy theories, Garcia continued, but because Donald Trump made it central to his win. Also on July 17, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X (formerly Twitter) that if Trump was guilty of anything regarding Jeffrey Epstein, Democrats would have used it against him the past 4 years. She followed the statement with anti-LGBTQ+ attacks, accusing Democrats of supporting drag queen story time, naked men dancing in front of children at pride parades, and mentally ill men in girls and womens bathrooms. The Journal previously reported that Trump once sent Epstein a lewd 2003 birthday letter. The note included a typewritten message surrounded by a crude drawing of a naked woman, with Trumps signature positioned beneath her waist. Trump has denied authoring the note and filed a defamation lawsuit against the Journal and its parent company, Dow Jones.

Queens to judges: 32 'Drag Race' stars featured on the judging panel
These 'Drag Race' queens have gone from contestants to judges! It used to be unthinkable that former RuPaul's Drag Race contestants would return to the series to appear as a judge. However, that long-held belief slowly changed over the years as the franchise created by Mama Ru expanded into different spin-offs and international editions.Around 2023, numerous Drag Race queens were already featured as judges of different iterations of the show around the world. Some of them got to host, or cohost, entire seasons quite literally taking on RuPaul's front-and-center role in their respective countries. Otherwise, numerous Drag Race shows have featured returning queens as special guest judges in an episode, or even recurring judges for a particular season.More often than not, fans are ecstatic to see Drag Race queens appearing on the judging panel after they've been through this process and have further established their careers beyond the franchise. It's always lovely to see that these queens are booked, busy, and thriving and let's just say that being chosen to return to Mama Ru's queendom as a judge is a gig that every alum would love to book.Scroll through to see RuPaul's Drag Race queens who appeared as judges in this ever-expanding drag competition franchise conquering the world.Brooke Lynn Hytes ('Canada's Drag Race')After finishing as the runner-up of RuPaul's Drag Race season 11, Brooke Lynn Hytes was hand-selected to be a judge on Canada's Drag Race. And, since then, Brooke has assumed the role of main host and judge of the show as well.Brooke has hosted and judged every single regular season of the Canadian series overall, as well as all seasons of its All Stars-esque spinoff Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs. the World.Nicky Doll ('Drag Race France')Nicky Doll's journey on Drag Race season 12 came to an end rather early, but she was still the perfect choice to host and serve as the main judge of Drag Race France. Over the years, Nicky and her French queendom of Drag Race stars made herstory performing on the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics and gagging the world with their sickening looks, performances, and LGBTQ+ representation on the biggest sports platform in the world. The French series has become one of the most successful and critically acclaimed international versions of the show over the years, going on to launch its standalone own Drag Race France All Stars season in 2025.Rita Baga ('Drag Race Belgique')Rita Baga didn't go on to win Canada's Drag Race season 1, but she was eventually cast as the host of Drag Race Belgique for the show's two seasons (thus far).Envy Peru ('Drag Race Holland' Season 2)Fans gagged over Envy Peru's eleganza extravanga on Drag Race Holland season one - and she ultimately won the show. As the OG winner of the Holland series, Peru was invited back to appear as a guest judge in one of the final episodes of season two.Choriza May ('Drag Race Espaa' Season 2)RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 2 fan-favorite queen Choriza May came into the UK competition as a queen from Spain. As such, it was very fitting for season two of Drag Race Espana to feature May as a guest judge.Alexis Mateo ('Drag Race Espaa' Season 2)Alexis Mateo competed on RuPaul's Drag Race season three, All Stars 1, and All Stars 5. As a Latina queen who's a long-standing veteran in the US series, Mateo was also brought on as a guest judge on Drag Race Espana season two.Jimbo ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 3; 'Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale' Season 1)The first-ever queen from an international Drag Race season to win a U.S. season of All Stars subsequently entering the flagship series' Drag Race Hall of Fame was Jimbo, a Canadian drag superstar who first appeared as a guest judge in the third season of Canada's Drag Race.Years later, Jimbo who knows a thing or two about competing in a season against queens from all over the world was aptly invited to guest judge Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale season 1 as well.Vanessa Vanjie ('Canada's Drag Race' Season 3)Vanessa Vanjie Mateo always makes for great television. As a result, Drag Race season 2 and All Stars 1 runner-up Raven took over Visage's coveted spot in the judging panel sitting at the righthand side of the main host. This was the first time in herstory for a former Drag Race contestant to sit on the judging panel of a RuPaul-hosted series within the franchise.Priyanka ('Canada vs the World' Season 1)Priyanka won the very first season of Canada's Drag Race and returned to the series in 2022 as a guest judge for the first edition of Canada vs the World. Specifically, the OG Canadian winner was featured in the Snatch Game episode.Even though both Priyanka and Brooke Lynn Hytes ironically bombed their own Snatch Game performances, they had a kiki with that coincidence while sharing critiques with the contestants.Mont X Change ('Canada vs the World' Season 1)Miss Congeniality of Drag Race season 10, All Stars 4 winner, and All Stars 7 runner-up Mont X Change appeared as a guest judge at the grand finale of Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs the World. As a previous All Stars winner, Mont was the perfect choice to be featured in this high-stakes episode.Valentina ('Drag RaceMxico' Season 1)Valentina first competed on Drag Race season 9, where she won the title Miss Congeniality rebranded to "fan-favorite" in her year. She then returned to compete on All Stars 4, and was subsequently announced Valentina was announced as one of two main cohosts and judges on the first-ever season of Drag Race Mxico.Lolita Banana('Drag RaceMxico')Lolita Banana, a standout competitor from Drag Race France who identified as Mexican, joined Valentina as the other main cohost and judge on Drag Race Mxico season 1. WWW.OUT.COM
Zac & Dylan Efron continue to drive the gays wild, now with a steamy round of shirtless golf
The Efron brothers know exactly who their audience is it's us, the gays and we're hooked. A few weeks ago, Zac (High School Musical) and Dylan (The Traitors) sent the internet wild when Dylan posted a video describing summer in one word that included the boys swimming around shirtless and enjoying a lake day.See on InstagramNow, theyve taken it up a notch with a collab post together, getting us interested in something we would otherwise care nothing about: golf.Thats it.Thats the post.Just a 16-second clip of the Efrons whacking around golf clubs, driving around in golf carts, captioned Sticks.Oh, and all while completely shirtless and looking far too attractive to be traipsing around the golf course. See on InstagramNaturally, the internet lost its mind as soon as the video dropped. (@) From being concerned over how many times they watch the video to begging to be in an Efron sandwich, social medias thirst for the brothers has officially exceeded the Supernatural Sam and Dean levels. (@) Under the Instagram post, some comments were more wholesome, like the woman who said it just feels right to see the two of them on a golf cart again.Others, on the other hand, casually mentioned the, ahem effect, the golf video had on them, and their solo habits. Apart from the thirst comments, the song attached to the clip had some mixed reactions, with most people thinking it should have been Zacs Bet On It from High School Musical. However, both Instagram and TikTok credit the audio as original, with TikTok saying its from Dylan. I merely point that out in wonder if Zac isnt the only Efron to sing, and also if Dylans about to drop some other talent on usAnyway, lets hope these two arent done sharing their summer together yet and keep our fingers crossed theyll keep us hydrated along the way.

Outrage after border agents subject detained gay Vermont superintendent to hours of psychological terror
A gay Vermont school superintendent says he was detained, separated from his husband, and subjected to hours of abusive questioning in Texas by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers while returning from a trip to Nicaragua this week in an incident his local school board condemned as inhumane, unjust, and deeply disturbing.Wilmer Chavarria, a U.S. citizen and superintendent of the Winooski School District, says he was held for more than five hours at Houstons George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Monday. Chavarria and his husband, Essex High School teacher Cyrus Dudgeon, were returning from visiting family in Nicaragua when they were stopped during Global Entry processing. Only Chavarria was detained.Seven Days Vermont reports that in a message to district leaders, Chavarria said officers seized his phone and laptop, denied him access to counsel, and interrogated him in four separate rooms. CBP agents allegedly cast doubt on his citizenship, questioned the legitimacy of his 15-year relationship, and challenged his employment status. His husband was not detained.Related: Trump administration stops abuse protection for transgender detainees in ICE custodyThey falsely stated that I, a U.S. citizen, have no constitutional rights at a point of entry, and officers became increasingly agitated as I continued to assert my rights regardless, Chavarria wrote. He described the experience as nothing short of surreal and the definition of psychological terror. In an interview with Vermont CBS affiliate WCAX, Chavarria said CBP agents attempted to access his school-issued computer, which contains sensitive student data. He refused to provide his passwords without consulting the districts legal counsel. I continued to ask for a lawyer, at least to ask the district lawyer to give me the go-ahead to provide that information, and they continued to refuse, he told the station.Chavarria said he was also asked about the sincerity of his marriage and whether he was truly a superintendent. He said he believes his detention was politically motivated. Ive been very vocal and a big advocate for the protection of vulnerable communities in the state of Vermont and the nation, he told WCAX. Im in a very critical and visible position, and Im not surprised when things like this happen. He warned that its going to get worse if people dont mobilize quickly.Chavarria, who was born in a Honduran refugee camp and grew up in Nicaragua, came to the U.S. as a student and became a citizen in 2018. He holds two masters degrees, including one from Harvard University. He has led the Vermont school district since 2023.The Winooski School Board released a statement Tuesday, standing firmly behind Chavarria and calling on elected officials to investigate.Despite being a United States citizen, Superintendent Chavarria was separated from his husband and treated in a manner that is deeply disturbing and unacceptable, the board wrote. Superintendent Chavarria is an exemplary leader and a beloved member of the Winooski School District community. His commitment to our students, families, and staff is unwavering. While we are aware that such detentions are increasingly becoming more common across the country, we must be clear: this is not normal. It is wrong. It is inhumane. It is unjust, the statement continued.Seven Days Vermont, which first reported the story, noted that Chavarria had never experienced this kind of treatment before, not while traveling on a student visa, nor as a green card holder, nor as a naturalized citizen. You think its less likely to happen when youre a full U.S. citizen, he said. Thats why I was so shaken by the whole thing. On Tuesday morning, just before boarding a flight home to Vermont, Chavarria received an email notice from CBP informing him that his previously approved Global Entry status had been revoked, without justification.Rep. Becca Balint, the first out LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Vermont, was not immediately available for an interview, but a spokesperson directed our sister site, The Advocate , to a speech she delivered on the House floor Tuesday evening.I take to the floor today because Im angry, and so are Vermonters, Balint said. We are furious because of what happened yesterday to a Vermonter, a U.S. citizen, as he attempted to return home. Wilmer Chavarria is a community leader. He is a school superintendent in my state. He was held and interrogated for hours by CBP agents and given no reason for his detainment.Balint added: Wilmer called the experience psychological terror. Again, we are talking about a U.S. citizen here. So when we say this can happen to any of us, this is what were talking about. this kind of violation of our constitutional rights is how leaders use terror to intimidate us into silence. When community leaders, school superintendents, are being detained because of the color of their skin and the sound of their last name, she continued, we need to hold onto our collective outrage. We do not need to accept this. This is not what Americans want.In response to The Advocates request for comment, a CBP spokesperson did not address Chavarrias case directly but said that every traveler entering the United States is subject to inspection, which CBP considers essential to safeguarding national security.CBP officers treat all travelers with integrity, respect, professionalism, and according to law, the agency said. The spokesperson added that searches of electronic devices are rare, highly regulated, and have been used in identifying and combating serious crimes, and that travelers are required to present electronic devices in a condition that allows examination. While U.S. citizens will not be denied entry for refusing to unlock their devices, their property may be detained or excluded, and processing times may be increased.CBP emphasized that passcodes are destroyed once no longer needed and may not be used to access remotely stored information.

Pedro Pascal shares first celeb crushesand they're all gay icons

In an interview with Fotogramas, the actor and his MCU costars are asked about their first celebrity crushes, and Pascal brought up some very relatable answers. Spoiler alert: They're all notable queer icons.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Pascal goes down a pretty legendary list of early celebrity crushes that includes Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Marlon Brando, Olivia Newton-John, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Given that every single one of these crushes is also a queer icon, it's not surprising that the gays are feeling seen. Overall, Pascal is no stranger to embracing queer culture; in the past year, he's continued to be an outspoken ally of trans people like his sister, Lux Pascal, and also rocked a rainbow disco stick while dancing at a Cannes party. That subsequently led Pascal to bring up Pfeiffer as Catwoman [in 1992's Batman Returns].Pascal also qualified that his crush on Ford was through The Last Crusade, but then corrected himself: "All the way to now." The list ended with Brando, and Pascal commenting that "Marlon Brando appears on screen in A Streetcar Named Desire, and you can't even stay seated." Pascal has had a busy year, and his turn as Marvel's live-action Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic, is just another feather in his cap. Michelle Obama's portrait artist cancels Smithsonian show due to anti-trans censorship
Amy Sherald, the portrait artist who gained critical acclaim for her painting of the former First Lady Michelle Obama, announced that she will be canceling her upcoming show at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. The New York Times reports that Sherald made the decision after being told that the museum was considering removing her painting of a transgender Statue of Liberty to avoid issues with the Trump administration. See on Instagram Her show, "American Sublime," was scheduled to take place in September, and according to the Times, it would have been the first show by a Black contemporary artist at the National Portrait Gallery. The revered artist sent a letter to the secretary of the Smithsonian, Lonnie G. Bunch III, stating, "I entered into this collaboration in good faith, believing that the institution shared a commitment to presenting work that reflects the full, complex truth of American life." She continued, "Unfortunately, it has become clear that the conditions no longer support the integrity of the work as conceived. The publication writes that she was informed of "internal concerns" about including the painting titled Trans Forming Liberty, and in a statement to the Times, she wrote, "These concerns led to discussions about removing the work from the exhibition. Its clear that institutional fear, shaped by a broader climate of political hostility toward trans lives, played a role.Sherald told the Times that Bunch suggested that instead of having the painting, there should be a video of people discussing transgender lives, and this ultimately led her to cancel the show. "The video would have opened up for debate the value of trans visibility, and I was opposed to that being a part of the American Sublime narrative," she said in her statement. Her work is known for its political stance, which is why the former First Lady chose her, and she made this clear in her statement, explaining why she felt it was the right decision to withdraw her show from the National Portrait Gallery. "I cannot in good conscience comply with a culture of censorship, especially when it targets vulnerable communities," Sherald wrote. "At a time when transgender people are being legislated against, silenced, and endangered across our nation, she added, silence is not an option. This is not the first time the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery has been criticized for queer erasure. A retrospective of the works of Felix Gonzlez-Torres, which closed this month, came under fire for obfuscating the late artist's queer identity and connection to the AIDS crisis, particularly in the portrait of his partner Ross Laycock, "Untitled" (Portrait of Ross in L.A.)."Amy Sherald: American Sublime" is currently on display at the Whitney in NYC through August 10.
