Hello Out readers!Last week, among other new music releases, queer singer Fletcher released her latest album, Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?.The album's first single, "Boy," caused a lot of discourse when it was released. The song, about Fletcher falling in love with a man, was released at the beginning of Pride month, and many of the singer's queer fans felt confused that the song sounded like an apology rather than a celebration of love. Now, the singer has spoken with Out about the discourse, her new album, and living in the public eye."I do not take lightly that I have been such important representation for so many people, and to anybody who felt anger or frustration or confusion or abandoned in some way, or the rug was pulled out from underneath them, I understand all of that and I see you and I love you," Fletcher says. She is also happy that if fans feel like they can no longer relate to her music, they have plenty of other options for sapphic and lesbian pop stars. "There's so many people, and there's so much representation, and there's so many people to narrate what your love story looks like. And if I've been that person for a long time, I am so honored," she says. "If I'm not that person anymore, that's totally fucking OK. It just makes me stoked to see how much music there is, and how much from when I started, and how scary it was to come out as an artist 10 years ago, and where we are now. It's so powerful to see how much has evolved over the last 10 years."Check out the entire interview here!Keep reading to find out our Man Crush Monday and all the best pop culture news!- Mey RudeRanking the highest-earning queens in 'RuPaul's Drag Race' herstory'Big Easy Queens' is the campy horror film that every drag fan will loveA soundcheck for two, what love sounds like in an empty concert hallNew Music Friday: Rene Rapp, SEVNDEEP, FKA twigs, and FletcherBreaking the Binary Theatre spotlights trans and nonbinary artists'Jeopardy!'s Ken Jennings won't support Gavin Newsom for president due to trans kids stanceThe Gilded Age to a 'gang bang': John Singer Sargent's defiantly queer artBarack Obama explains why he thinks all men need queer people in their livesNetflix revives 1998 cold case of a missing lesbian cruise ship passengerMan Crush MondayOut's Man Crush Monday this week is Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings! There's still so much time to advance candidates that DON'T suck," Jennings wrote on social media.
