No punchline, just poly, why this series lets non-monogamy be the heart, not the joke
The HBO Max series Six Is Not a Crowd kicks off with a classic rom-com setup: a wedding, a meet-cute, a spark. Dami (Nicols Furtado), a lifelong monogamist, meets Caro (Delfina Chaves). They go on a date, and when things seem to be heading down the usual boy-meets-girl path, Caro casually introduces her other boyfriend and girlfriend. Cue the dramatic lightning strike. No, really. "We are polyamorous," she says, just as a bolt splits the sky. It's a moment the show's creators call a deliberate nod to the shock factor, but not for shock's sake.Instead, Six Is Not a Crowd (originally Felices los 6) uses its surprises to spark conversation. Created by Argentine writers Tessie Sills and Javier Rozenwasser, the series leans into familiar rom-com tropesthink Friends or early Apatowbut evolves them into something rarely seen on screen: a romantic comedy where polyamory isn't a punchline, but the emotional center.I've seen shows toy with non-monogamy before, but usually with a wink and a jab. Take Netflix's The Four Seasons, released last month. In one scene, the married characters of Jack (Will Forte) and Kate (Tina Fey) stroll through their old college town, reminiscing, when Kate asks whether the next generation is "just going to give up on marriage?" Jack's response? "People like to say they're poly or not into labels, but even in a throuple someone's gotta clean the air fryer." In the season finale, Kate turns to Jack and declares, "You're my soulmate"a tidy return to monogamous tradition. All is right with the world again. It's a common pattern: polyamory is entertained, briefly, before the narrative restores the status quo. That's why Six Is Not a Crowd is so refreshing. It doesn't just flirt with ethical non-monogamy; it lives there. And for the first time, I saw myself as a bi person in queer relationships reflected on screen with care, complexity, and warmth.According to the creators, that was intentional. "Unfortunately, we're still at a point where we need idealized versions in order to push back against the decades of stigmatizing portrayals of non-monogamous and queer relationships in mainstream media," Sills explains to me from her home in Buenos Aires. As a bi, ethically non-monogamous woman herself, Sills co-wrote Six Is Not a Crowd with her then-partner Rozenwasser. "At that time, we were a non-monogamous couple questioning the traditional relationship escalator. We needed a story that reflected a different way to love, and we set out to write it."Rozenwasser grew up watching romantic comedies. "They filled me with hope about 'finding true love.' But I gradually started to ask myself if the concept of finding 'the one and only' was, in fact, the only way to find love."That question planted the seed for Six is Not a Crowd. By drawing on research into ethical non-monogamy and bringing Sofa Wilhelmi onto the writing team, the creators built a world where love triangles aren't a source of conflictthey're the destination.By turning the classic rom-com formula on its head, the series unlocks something honest. At the end of episode 4, Dami finds himself caught between his partner Caro and his monogamous ex Romina, in the exact kind of scene we'd expect in a more traditional love storyexcept, in this scenario, the tension comes from clashing expectations. Caro drops by while Romina's over. "Are you with someone right now?" Caro asks, then cheerfully adds, "You should've kicked me out."Caro knows Dami's dating other people. There's no problem there. The issue is Damiflailing in old patternsdishonestly introduces Caro to Romina as just "a friend.""We were raised in Dami's worldas were most of the potential viewers of the series," Rozenwasser points out. "And even if we could say the 'world is changing' and that 'everyone is more open nowadays,' we knew that it isn't completely true and that there would be an interesting and funny story in the clash of those worlds."This cultural friction is precisely where the show's emotional core lies. The drama hinges on Dami's struggle to communicate across relational paradigms within a society that is still largely structured around heteronormative monogamy. We see this theme play out in other moments. After a threesome with his partner Caro and her girlfriend, a traditional sitcom might cut to Dami bragging in a locker room, surrounded by bro-ish jokes and high-fives. But Six Is Not a Crowd goes in the opposite direction. On an indoor soccer field, Dami tries to explain to his friends what that night meant to him. He's earnest, even reverent: "There was a lot of foreplay. I was there, but I wasn't there." As the music swells, he recalls with a smile, "I didn't know I had so many sensitive parts of my body."His monogamous friends, predictably, don't get it. "Did you fuck?" a friend asks. "Technicallyno," Dami admits. "But it was better."The scene mines the tension between emotional vulnerability and performative masculinity for laughs. It's not mocking Dami for feeling something; it's asking why we're still so bad at talking about sex. Yet Six Is Not a Crowd isn't here to teach us how to negotiate triad dynamics or draft a relationship agreement. It's not a polyamory how-to guide. Instead, it offers something far more generous: a space to laugh, cry, and reflect on what we actually want from intimate relationships.Through a refreshingly diverse cast of poly characterssome queer, some straightthe show widens the lens on how we connect, how we fail, and how we keep showing up for one another anyway. It allows love to multiply, sidestepping the familiar playbook that resolves love into a single tidy equation between two people. As Rozenwasser explains, the show is asking, "What if the love of your life had other loves of their lives?"As for what comes next? Neither creator would spill details, but hinted that there may be more to explore. "Once you've written characters that defy traditional relationship norms, it's pretty hard to go back to thinking of monogamy-exclusive movies or series," Rozenwasser concedes. In the meantime, their hopes for the series are clear. "I hope people walk away with a little more compassion, curiosity, and willingness to talk," Rozenwasser notes."And I hope viewers see that love and commitment don't have to look just one way," Sills adds. "I wish I'd seen more stories where having feelings outside of a relationship didn't mean you were broken, untrustworthy, or destined to silence part of yourself just to fit into society. I wish I'd understood earlier that desire doesn't have to follow just one path. For the future, I'd love to see more joyful, contradictory characters who live outside the box and are still taken seriously."If Six is Not a Crowd is any indication, that future isn't far off.Perspectives is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ and Allied community. • What Is Polysexuality And Does The Label Apply To You
    WWW.OUT.COM
Signs you may be polysexual, according to experts
Could you be polysexual? If you find that queer, bisexual, or pansexual dont fully explain who you are and who you are attracted to, it might be time to look into this rarely discussed sexual identity. Identity is complicated, with a lot more nuance and gray area than we like to admit, and not only is coming to terms with your LGBTQ+ identity difficult, but deciding what label fits you best can be just as tricky. Then, theres the complicating factor of needing to come out to your family, friends, and potential lovers. Figuring out your sexuality can be overwhelming and even scary, but dont worry, weve got you covered. We spoke with LGBTQ+ sex and relationship experts to find out what polysexuality is, what signs to look for if you think you may be polysexual, and tips and tricks for coming out. What does it mean to be polysexual? The prefix poly, means many and is defined as a sexual orientation where someone is attracted to multiple, but not necessarily all, genders. This means that polysexuals may be attracted to men, women, nonbinary and genderqueer folks, trans people, or any other gender expression.A polysexual person might be attracted to women and nonbinary people, but not to men. Alternatively, they might be attracted to men, genderqueer people, and transgender people, but not to women, says Dr. Gregory Jones, an openly gay psychologist, certified sex therapist, and the CEO and founder of the Capital Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness in Washington, D.C.This can be complicated by how fluid gender identity and sexuality can be, how they can evolve over the course of someones life, and how terms and distinctions change at a societal level over time. It's about having a wide, delicious buffet of attractions instead of an open bar, explains Gia Green, an adult performer and sex writer and Lustery, who is also polysexual herself. For me, it's about acknowledging the people I desire without feeling like I have to check any gender box to justify it. It's fluid, flexible, and leaves room for preferences never experienced before. How is it different from being bisexual or pansexual? While many think bisexuality refers to being attracted to two genders (men and women), the term encompasses nonbinary and trans individuals, too. Bisexuality doesnt mean sticking to the gender binary. Come on, lets bury this myth once and for all, folks. Pansexuality, on the other hand, is the attraction to people regardless of their gender, which means that polysexuality is somewhere in between bisexuality and pansexuality because it refers to individuals who are attracted to many, but not all, genders.Pansexuality is broader in scope than polysexuality, as it includes every gender identity without limitation, explains Angela Vossen, a relationship coach and founder of Sextasy, who self-identifies as polysexual and polyamorous. This distinction isn't necessarily clear or significant for many people. So you may be attracted to men and gender fluid people, but not women, or they might just vibe with masculine-presenting folks regardless of how their bodies look like, Green says. We all have our patterns of desire, and polysexuality names that with clarity and pride.6 signs you may be polysexualYes, some people have a clear understanding of their sexuality from a young age, while other people discover it later in life, but it can also be an ever-evolving process of reevaluating how you feel and the type of person you are attracted to. So if you dont have it all figured out yet, dont worry, you arent alone.Understanding your sexuality can be tricky, but our experts have some signs to look out for if you think you might be polysexual.1. Youre attracted to more than one gender, but there are also ones that dont spark any sexual interest in you.2. When you are fantasizing about your future or having sex fantasies, you get excited by switching out the gender identity of your potential romantic/sexual partners.3. You feel comfortable embracing the idea of liking multiple gender expressions without feeling the need to have your attractions be universal.4. Youve labeled yourself as bisexual or pansexual in the past, but neither label accurately describes you because bisexuality feels too limiting, and pansexuality feels too broad.5. You resonate with stories about polysexuality or depictions of it on social media or in pop culture.6. When you read about the term polysexual, it felt right and seemed to fit.It can be very important for some people to feel a sense of connection and relief when identifying themselves sexually. If you feel that the term polysexual connects to you, you may be polysexual, Dr. Jones assures.Tips for coming outOk, so youve decided the polysexual label fits you and are ready to start telling your friends and family. But what is the best way to come out to people?First, coming out can be difficult, and you should do it on your own terms and at your own pace. But once youre ready, think about picking a private, calm, and safe environment to talk to people you trust, like close friends and supportive family members. The people you tell might be unaware of what polysexual means, so be prepared to explain it in simple terms, and prepare yourself for the fact that they may have follow-up questions. You can also set firm boundaries if youre not ready to have a deep discussion with anyone yet, and end conversations if they go in a negative direction. Start with one or two trusted people to build confidence. Use resources like letters, texts, or casual conversations if a face-to-face talk feels overwhelming, recommends Vossen. If safety is a concern, consider delaying coming out to certain people until youre in a more secure situation (e.g., financially independent or with a support network).Since polysexuality is a lesser-known sexual orientation, not everyone will immediately understand, and some people may need time to process. Let them, but prioritize your own well-being and think about connecting with polysexual or LGBTQ+ groups either online or in-person, who you can share you experience with and gain support.Finding a sense of community is also incredibly important in coming out, regardless of your sexual identity, Dr. Jones advises. Community is powerful in lifting you up, as well as a safe place for healing and growth. Please remember there is no right or wrong way to do this, and that identity can be fluid over time. Today, you may identify as polysexual, but over time, that may evolve into a different orientation, and that is okay!Youre also under no obligation to come out at all, and if you choose to, you can also make the whole thing a lot more casual, Green says.Come out the way you get off in your own damn style, she suggests. For me, that means skipping the performative coming-out moment and focusing on self-alignment. Maybe you just drop it in casually: Oh yeah, I'm polysexual, I'm into multiple genders, not all of them. Or maybe you want a more intimate moment with someone you trust. Either way, remember: you're not asking for permission. You're just sharing a beautiful truth about yourself.Sources cited:Gia Green, a polysexual adult performer and sex writer at Lustery.Dr. Gregory Jones, an openly gay psychologist, certified sex therapist, Harvard fellow, and the CEO and founder of the Capital Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness in Washington, D.C.Angela Vossen, a relationship coach and founder of Sextasy.

  • Superman 2025

Yes, Superman is an immigrant. He's also a gay icon.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's an immigrant! And, a queer icon.James Gunn's new Superman movie is just around the corner, and it's already igniting debate across the internet about superheroes and what they represent.Starring David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel, Superman tells the story of an alien from the planet Krypton who landed on Earth as a baby and now possesses incredible powers. It seems like a simple premise, yet the film is making headlines after writer/director Gunn pointed out something obvious: Superman is an immigrant."I mean, Superman is the story of America," he said. "An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost."Fox News immediately dubbed Superman "Superwoke." Commentator Kellyanne Conway said, "We don't go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have someone throw their ideology onto us.""You know what it says on his cape? MS13," Jesse Watters added, referencing alleged gang tattoos a man named Kilmar Abrego Garcia had on his knuckles that were used as evidence he should be deported.Dean Cain, a conservative actor who played Superman on the TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has now added his two cents."Changing beloved characters I dont think is a great idea. I think if you wanna create a new character, go ahead and do that, but for me, Superman has always stood for truth, justice, and the American way," he said to TMZ. "And the American way is immigrant-friendly tremendously immigrant-friendly, but there are rules."Cain said, "It was a mistake by James Gunn to say it's an immigrant thing," and that he's rooting for the film's success, "but I don't like that last political comment."Conservatives are angry enough hearing the fact that Superman was not born in the U.S.A., so what will they think when they realize that the character is also a gay allegory? Here are four ways Superman is, and has always been, a queer allegory.Secret Identity and Double LifeGay people know intimately what it's like to keep a secret from everyone around you. Many also often understand what it's like to feel you have to live a double life. The concept of a secret identity is a clear allegory for being in the closet and for the idea of "passing." Many queer people feel they have to "pass" as straight or cis while in public to protect their true identity and protect their safety."It is for many reasons we often hold onto our secret identities," trans writer Riley Chattin wrote in The Advocate. "Whether our secrets are self-imposed, or we are told that we should never disclose it, we learn that it must remain hidden behind the exterior that society accepts. Only in the dark of night, like Batman, do we go out with completely different clothes. Maybe even hide our faces in a webbed Spider-Man-like mask so those closest to us cannot recognize us."Being Different / an OutsiderWhen Gunn talks about Superman being an immigrant, he's talking about him being an outsider. Superman is not like most people. He's not like most men. He knows he is different and has to navigate the world and all his relationships, knowing most people will not be able to relate to significant parts of his life. These same things can often be said for queer people.Queer people are often found in community with each other precisely because they are different. Most of the population is not queer and many people even find understanding queerness to be difficult. If queer people are outsiders, at least superheroes are too."More than any Superman film before, Man of Steel presents Kent as an outsider, struggling to find his place in a society where he does not see himself reflected," Jase Peeples wrote about the 2013 film. "It's a predicament not unfamiliar to many in the LGBT community -- especially those who grew up in an era before gay characters were commonplace in media, when others like us could be discovered faster than a speeding bullet through the internet."HypermasculinitySuperman's name declares him as the ultimate man. Superman is handsome, strong, and has a body like the men you'd find in a Tom of Finland drawing. While straight men admire Superman's masculinity, gay men find it both aspirational and hot.The CostumeSpandex, a bright cape, and the underwear on the outside? Did I describe Superman's costume or an outfit you'd see at any Pride festival?Of course, gay people are often drawn to the fashion sense of superheroes, and Superman's costume is one of the all-time greats! No matter how much conservatives complain, Superman's story is an immigrant story, and it is a queer story. Queer people have always seen themselves in superheroes, and will continue to do so. If conservatives want heroes that don't represent the queer community, they need to look elsewhere.James Gunn's Superman will be released in theaters on July 11.

However, in her statement, the singer whose real name is Hayden Silas Anhednia and her fans have expressed that they think she's the target of a transphobic hate campaign.Cains Spotify page was hacked, and the person who hacked it wrote that Cain, who is a trans woman, was a weird boy, Stereogum reported. An X account called @herweirdsilas uploaded screenshots of Cains unsavory posts that were originally posted to a subreddit dedicated to the singer. Drag Race All Stars 10: These queens will lip sync for the crown at the finale
It all comes down to this!Editor's note: This article contains spoilers for episode 11, titled "Tournament of All Stars Talent Invitational," of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10.After fiercely competing on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10 for many weeks, seven queens in addition to one wildcard queen who had been eliminated from the Tournament of All Stars but will now return to lip sync for the crown have now qualified to the grand finale and have a shot at earning a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame.A sickening group of 18 queens entered one of three brackets in the Tournament of All Stars and earned enough points to move forward in the competition. Nine competitors made it to the semi-finals, where they competed in the Snatch Game (episode 10) and in the Talent Invitational challenge (episode 11). One queen was eliminated in each of those episodes, but instead of moving forward with seven finalists, Mama Ru and the judges are bringing back one eliminated queen to be the eighth finalist in the lip sync smackdown for the crown. Are you ready, boots?Who won the Talent Invitational challenge on All Stars 10?Pretty hurts, but someone has to do it, and Bosco had the judges eating out of her hand during this entire number for the Talent Invitational challenge of All Stars 10.This was, overall, a very good Variety Show challenge in the Drag Race queendom.
