This actually was a normal thing for Andrs Pepe Estrada (my co-director) and I. We would see what we had, and sometimes write new moments that were not in the script, to be shot the next day.""In this case, we needed a crucial moment in the boys' blossoming friendship that highlights a 'feeling' that will set in motion a 25-year-old enigma forever etched in Matias' memory. The adult that then makes a film about that 'feeling,'" Di Pace adds. "We chose the forest this beautiful, pure space because it echoes youth."Di Pace concludes, "You could say the forest scenes act as a reflection of innocence, unbiased, unfiltered, and untouched by adult voices and opinions, which is a big theme in the movie. And then there's 'I love you,' and its meaning in different languages. If you've ever tried to say it in a culture outside your own, it opens a whole can of worms."When Alexander is expelled from school, their bond is suddenly broken leaving Matias with unanswered questions and lingering feelings.25 years later, as Matias looks inward in his search for the ending of this film, he's surprised by an invitation to dive deep into the experiences and, most of all, the feelings he's still grappling with as an adult: Coming face-to-face with Alexander."Set in a picturesque Italian coastal town, Before We Forget is a visual and emotional journey that celebrates the beauty of friendship, the intensity of youth, and the transformative experiences of falling in love and growing up," the film's official synopsis reads. Before We Forget opens in theaters in New York City on July 11, in Los Angeles on July 18, and in additional markets starting on July 25.
