  • Shequida Hall
    WWW.OUT.COM
How Shequida Hall turned grandmas manners into Manhattan mayhem
If you have ever wondered what happens when a Jamaican-born kid with operatic pipes meets Manhattan's neon nightlife, Shequida Hall is the answer. It was almost 11 at night when we met up, yet the energy at the club was as electric as a first set of performers at a Sunday drag brunch. The crowd was shouting and clapping for their preferred performer, and at the heart of it all was one of New York's finest performers.A Downtown Diva Grows UpRaised by a formidable grandmother who forbade patois at home and insisted on "proper English," the matriarch also showed Hall unconditional love. Even before knowing her identity, her grandmother was there: "One day she pulled me aside, and she's like, just be yourself. I love you as you are, and people will learn to love you just for who you are." That moment became emotional scaffolding for a career built on audacity. Yet Shequida's big bang was a pure accident. One school night in the early 90s, friends slapped a straw hat, blonde wig, negligee, and combat boots on her and marched her to a club. The kid who'd never set foot in a club got her first booking before her first cocktail. "Someone came up to me like, 'I love your lookWant to work here?'" she recalls, still incredulous. It was none other than New York's infamous partyer, Lee Chappell, whose fabled party needed fresh energy. And Shequida, red lipstick crooked and all, was suddenly on the payroll. The Accidental Architect of OpportunityFast-forward to the Aughts, when backstage shade at a Downtown competition pushed her from performer to producer. "If you wanted a gig, you had to wait until someone passed or someone invited you in to perform at their club or their venue or their show," Shequida reflects on her own experiences in New York's drag scene. "And I vowed if I ever had the opportunity, that I would literally give a stage to these new performers to do what they want to do, show who they are, because that's the only way you'll ever get in." And, in 2010, that promise materialized as DRAG WARS: The Next Generation. Shequida HallJeff Eason for Shequida HallThe Monday-night showdown has since minted queens who skipped off to RuPaul's Drag Race: Aquaria, Brita Filter, Jasmine Kennedy, and Jiggly Caliente, among others (though, Shequida jokes, "not one sent me a single dollarmy Venmo is Help-a-Bitch.) But the goal was never just TV glory. "My job at DRAG WARS is just to be a glamorous doorman, like somebody at the front door of the Ritz Carlton," she says. "All I'm doing is opening the door and holding it open for you to walk through." That philosophy means DRAG WARS isn't a Hunger Games bloodbath; it's a launchpad where newcomers get lighting, crowds, andcruciallya mother who reminds them to tip the DJ and hydrate between numbers. Why NYC Drag Still Takes Nerve"Everybody comes to New York City, and everybody wants to be famous," Shequida laughs. "The competition is stiffand in the words of Paris Is Burning, it do take nerve to perform here." In her view, the city's revolving cast of bright-eyed transplants is less of a threat than ferocious. Neighborhoods shift; dive bars may gentrify into brunch spots, but drag keeps evolving into something delightfully disobedient. That disobedience is political. "Freedom is being able to wear a dress, put on a wig, do drag if you want," she declares. "Freedom to be who you want to be, how you want to be." In an era when anti-drag bills crawl through statehouses, DRAG WARS doubles as a weekly protest: sequins in the face of rising censorship, high-kicks in the face of hate. Opera Meets Eye ShadowBefore the lashes and late-night antics, Shequida trained at Juilliard. Thus, she has a range that lets her riff on Whitney mid-split while also gliding through Mozart's coloratura. "My two loves are singing and drag," she says. This spring, she married them in a new venture, Sing For Your Life, at Hell's Kitchen's Balcon Salon. Belters lug sheet music, nail an 11 o'clock number, leave with a demo reel, and, maybe, a future booking. "Once again, I was never given a lot of opportunities. I am grateful for the ones that I did get," she affirms. "[I'm] always about giving people opportunities." Shequida HallJeff Eason for Shequida HallAsk for career advice for an aspiring drag performer, and she'll smack it with Jamaican realness: "Don't do it. It's painful: the corsets, the heels, the tuck." Then she softens into mother mode: march to your own drum, win with grace, and lose with a smile. And, because slots in a lineup are like Manhattan leases, "Nobody hires a cunt." Professionalism, she insists, is the real lip gloss. And this is coming from a lifetime of being a queer professional: her grandmother's stoop taught her quiet power; Julliard taught her technique; the Roxy taught her how quickly a stranger's compliment can rewrite a destiny. So when culture critics fret that TikTok queens in Fashion Nova will devalue "real" drag, Shequida shrugs. New York is reinvention. If a performer leaves DRAG WARS and snags a Hulu deal, the ecosystem works. If a singer graduates from Sing For Your Life to America's Got Talent, it's the same deal. The point is that doors stay open, even if Shequida has to hold them herself. Perhaps drag isn't about viral death drops or top-shelf gowns but the quiet, grandmother-approved promise to "just do." Shequida Hall keeps doing: holding doors, staging wars, singing arias, and painting on the same joy that first electrified her under the Roxy's lights. New York may keep changing outfits, but as long as she's here, freedom and opportunity will still look like a straw hat, bad red lipstick, and the sense to love yourself each and every time you step out in the world.

LGBTQ Therapists: 5 Tips for Finding the Best Professional
Finding a therapist who truly understands and affirms your LGBTQ identity can be transformative. Whether youre exploring your gender, navigating coming-out challenges, or seeking support for mental health concerns within the context of your sexual orientation, the right clinician offers both expertise and empathy. Yet the process of choosing a therapist often feels overwhelming: how do you separate genuine allies from practitioners who simply claim to be inclusive? These five tips, drawn from clinical best practices and lived experiences, will guide you toward a professional who honors your whole self and helps you grow.Tip 1: Start with LGBTQ-Friendly Therapy DirectoriesRather than scouring general directories or hoping for the best, begin your search on platforms designed to connect you with affirming professionals. Many services curate lists of therapists who specialize in queer and trans issues, ensuring cultural competence from the first click. For example, you can explore lgbtq friendly therapy directories that allow filtering by gender identity, sexual orientation, and specific areas of expertisewhether thats gender-affirming care, polyamory coaching, or queer trauma.By starting here, you avoid generic listings and focus on clinicians whove demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ health. Youll see profiles detailing their training, session formats (in-person vs. teletherapy), fees, and client testimonials. This targeted approach saves time and builds confidence that your therapist understands the unique dynamics of LGBTQ life.Tip 2: Verify Credentials and Specialized TrainingNot all licenses are created equal. A therapist might hold an LPC, LCSW, PsyD, or LMFTbut whatmatters most is their specialized training and experience with LGBTQ clients. Look for clinicianswhove pursued continuing education in areas like:Gender-affirming modalities (e.g., WPATH standards of care)Sexuality and relationship diversity (e.g., non-monogamy, kink-affirming therapy)Minority stress frameworks that address stigma, discrimination, and internalizedhomophobiaFor instance, Dr. Maria Lopez, an LMFT in San Diego, completed a certificate program in queer-affirming therapy and has co-authored papers on resilience in queer youth. Her practice blendscognitive-behavioral techniques with narrative therapy, acknowledging both thought patterns and personal stories. When you review a therapists bio, note not just general mental health expertise but specific credentials and publications related to LGBTQ well-being. This depth of training indicates an ability to navigate complex intersecting identitiesrace, socioeconomic status, disabilityand tailor interventions accordingly.Tip 3: Prioritize Cultural Competence and InclusivityTherapy is more than technique; its about feeling truly seen. A therapists office (physical or virtual)should be a safe zone where your pronouns are respected, your chosen name is used consistently, and microaggressions are addressed promptly. Cultural competence extends beyond sexualorientation and gender identity to consider race, religion, body size, and more.Pay attention to these signals:Intake forms and paperwork that offer multiple gender options and space for preferredpronouns.Visible cues such as LGBTQ affirming symbols (rainbow flags, trans pride flags) or readingmaterials on queer topics in waiting areas.Therapist language: Do they ask open-ended questions about your coming-out timeline? Dothey avoid pathologizing language around nonbinary or asexual identities? If youre in an initial consultation and the therapist hesitates when you mention being nonbinary, orthey conflate sexual orientation with gender identity, thats a red flag. Your sense of psychologicalsafety hinges on a clinicians willingness to learn from missteps, apologize, and adapt their languageand approach.Tip 4: Evaluate Therapeutic Approach and ModalitiesDifferent therapeutic models resonate differently depending on your personality, presentingconcerns, and cultural background. Some key modalities to consider:Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Structured, goal-oriented; effective for anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues common among LGBTQ individuals facing minority stress.Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focuses on values-driven action andmindfulness, helping you live authentically amid social pressures.Narrative Therapy: Explores how personal stories around identity shape self-concept;particularly powerful when countering internalized stigma.Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Ideal for couples or family dynamics, supportingrelationship repair and deeper connection.Group Therapy: Offers peer support; seeing others journeys can reduce isolation and buildcommunity resilience.During your introductory call, ask the therapist to describe how they integrate these models inpractice. If they cant clearly articulate their approach or default to well figure it out as we go, youmight seek someone with a firmer theoretical grounding. The best match feels both flexible to yourneeds and anchored in proven methods.Tip 5: Trust Your Instincts and Assess the Therapeutic AllianceEven with glowing credentials and the perfect modality, the fit ultimately comes down to yourcomfort and trust. The therapeutic alliancethe collaborative, empathetic bond between client andtherapistpredicts outcomes more than any specific technique.Notice how you feel during that first hour:Do you feel heard and validated? Even subtle cuesleaning in, nodding, reflectivestatementssignal genuine engagement. Is there a sense of mutual respect? You should never feel rushed, condescended to, ordismissed.Does the therapist tailor questions to you? Avoid clinicians who rely solely on checkboxassessments; they should show curiosity about your unique story. If something feels offan uncomfortable energy, persistent jargon, or a mismatch in communicationstyleits okay to pause and reflect. Seek another consultation rather than powering through. Astrong alliance fosters safety to explore your most vulnerable emotions and leads to deeper insightsand sustained change.Integrating Feedback and Ensuring Ongoing FitFinding the right therapist is not a one-time event but an ongoing process. As you progress:Solicit regular feedback in session about what aspects of therapy feel helpful and which feelstagnant.Be prepared to adjust: sometimes shifting focus from symptom relief to deeper identitywork requires renegotiating goals.Recognize milestones: when youve met initial goalsreducing panic attacks, improvingrelationship communicationdiscuss next steps. Peppermint reacts to no trans contestants on 'Traitors' season 4urges reality TV to 'be brave'
Peppermint has shared a statement reacting to the lack of transgender contestants in The Traitors season 4 cast, making this the second consecutive season that the U.S. series hosted by Alan Cumming and streaming on Peacock doesn't include any trans cast member.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox! While fans are excited about the queer-inclusive cast of The Traitors season 4 that features contestants like Kristen Kish, Colton Underwood, Mont X Change, Johnny Weir, and Yamil Arocho a.k.a. Yam Yam, the show's fabulous and treacherous castle is once again not occupied by a single trans person. On March 12, Peppermint cowrote an open letter alongside Frankie Grande calling for a "reality check" of LGBTQ+ representation on mainstream reality shows. That letter, published by GLAAD, highlighted the urgent need to show "the world that trans people are more than just one-dimensional characters" with Peppermint not only recalling her experiences on The Traitors season 2, but also the lack of any trans contestant in season 3 of the U.S. series. On Saturday, June 14, Peppermint shared a new statement with Out reacting to the season 4 cast announcement of The Traitors, which once again doesn't include any trans contestant. The statement reads:"The Traitors is one of my favorite television shows. Some of my favorites are on this seasonI'm so glad they cast Mont, she's going to be fantastic!I was hopeful to see more inclusion with the new cast, but after the current administration's threats to punish those who include trans people in their respective industries everything from healthcare and beyond I knew many would fall in line.I've called upon producers and casting directors to be more inclusive, hoping someone would be brave. I know Alan Cumming understands the importance of trans inclusion especially in this time and I'm hopeful more people in the industry we'll take the next opportunity."See on InstagramAlan Cumming, who won a 2024 Emmy Award for hosting The Traitors and wore a transgender flag pin during his acceptance speech, has been advocating for trans inclusion in mainstream more than ever in recent years. As Out's January/February 2025 cover star, for instance, Cumming commented on the importance of pushing back against anti-trans rhetoric from conservative pundits and politicians. The Traitors host told Out in his cover story, "It's not about toilets. It's never about the things they say it's about. It's about using a group in society that is vulnerable and easily hated to be the scapegoat in order to take attention away from the other terrible things that are happening.""It's a really terrifying timeSo anything I can do to just show trans power and trans beauty and trans happiness, I do," Cumming said, warning that trans people are "being erased in front of us."The Traitors season 4 is coming soon to Peacock. The first three seasons of the U.S. series are available for streaming.

Moke and I (Mark) are married, and my former husband, Tom, lives in the pool house of our family property, where we're all raising our eight-year-old twins, Beau and Coy. It's a hectic, busy, and beautiful arrangement. For instance, a typical weekday might begin at 6 AM as the three of us dadsstylish but overcaffeinatedwrangle to get our overly rambunctious twins off to school. At drop-off, a crossing guard smiles and says, "Oh, how niceyour brother and their grandpa are helping today!" We've been mistaken for brothers, uncles, sons, even a throuple more times than we can count. (For clarity, we're not a throuple: some consider us more "traditional" and unconventional at the same time.) The three of us exchange a familiar glance of bemusement as we take in the puzzled expression on the crossing guard's face. The Family Blueprint: How Our Unconventional Household Came to BeTom and I got married over a decade ago and knew we wanted a family. We had the twins through surrogacy with an amazing and beautiful woman, Ashley, who became like family to us. We even stayed at Ashley's place after the twins were born so she could lend her nurturing touch and the love that only a mother could extend to our newborns. A few years later, Tom and I divorced, but we didn't "break" up our family we reimagined it. Tom is a beloved figure in our family, and we're thrilled that he lives with us, allowing us to maintain a stable life for the twins. Unusual, maybe, but for us, it works. Our kids come first, and having "Dad #3" just steps away makes parenting so much easier. After my divorce, I met my current husband, also named Mark; we affectionately refer to him as Moke (rhymes with "coke"), a nickname coined because the twins couldn't pronounce his name. Bringing a new partner into our unique setup was an adventure, and to his credit, Moke took it in stride. Before moving in, he rented a nearby apartment so the kids could get to know him gradually. He wanted to build a connection with them before jumping into the deep end. I even set up a nanny cam once to observe how he interacted with them. He passed. It may sound extreme, but that's how seriously we took it. For this to work, we all knew that the five of us had to have an inextricable connection defined by love, respect, kindness, and patience.Indeed, that's what we got. "Bringing a new partner into our unique setup was an adventure, and to his credit, Moke took it in stride."Mike RuizMoke often says that when he fell in love with me, he fell in love with all of us, including the kids and Tom. Tom admitted he was a bit nervous about sharing dad duties with a newcomer, but those worries faded fast. Before long, the twins were calling him "Daddy Moke," so having a third dad in the mix felt natural. Our family not only gained another parent but another source of love. Now, it's not all roses and champagne. Moke is an artist with a distinct vision for everything, and that extends to cleaning and the presentation of the house. Tom, on the other hand, believes a little chaos adds character. And yes, there is still an ongoing debate about the fact that Tom wears my old wedding ring. But somehow, it works. We've expanded our support network considerably thanks to our beloved nanny, Jennie, who is undoubtedly part of the family, and our close circle of friends who help make up our very own village.Accidental Activists: Living Visibly, Changing HeartsWe didn't set out to be activists. But by living our lives openly, we've learned that visibility itself is a quiet form of activism. Every time we share a slice of our life online, we're showing the world that family can look a little different and that's okay. Simply by being ourselves in public, we're challenging ideas of what a family "should" be.The response has been humbling. Take, for instance, a recent interaction with a teenage fan who stopped us at the airport to share that seeing three gay dads raise happy kids made him believe he could have that kind of future, too. That message made me tear up. That drove home how living our truth can help others. We've found that just existing loudly and proudly can make a powerful statement. As Moke often says, "Family can look any way you want it to, as long as there's love and laughter." We hope our family encourages others to embrace their unique dynamics.Tom, who has never been one to seek attention, says he's fine being called an "accidental activist" as long as it means more people realize that families come in all kinds of sizes, shapes, colors, faiths, orientations, etc. His take? "We're a little crazy, but it works."A New Baby on the WayWe're now preparing to welcome baby number three, a long-awaited event we've been discussing for years. Our excitement (and nerves) are palpable. It's been a while since we had a newborn in the house, but this time, we've got experienceand a bigger villageon our side. This will be Tom's second go at fatherhood at 71. He became a parent for the first time at 62, and now he's doing it again. We tease him that he's not a grandpa; he's just a retroactive rookie. He claims he has more energy now than he did a decade ago. (We'll see how he feels after a few night feedings.)I'll admit, after having twins, I thought our baby days were behind us. We already had our hands full. But life has a way of surprising you. Now we get to do it all again, years later, and it feels like a gift. Beau and Coy are thrilled at the prospect of becoming big sisters and brothers. And the three of us dads are a bit older and wiser now, and hopefully wise enough to function on no sleep this time! The first time around, Tom and I stumbled through midnight feedings and diaper disasters. This time, we have experience on our side and an entire village ready to help. So, what's different with baby number three on the horizon? For one thing, we're not bracing for twins again. Well, at least none that we know of. But then again, that would be a welcome surprise, too! Additionally, this baby will be joining a fully formed parenting team. When the twins were infants, it was just Tom and I figuring things out, and later Moke joined in. Now, this little one will arrive to find three adoring dads and siblings from the very beginning.A Call to Strengthen Our CommunityIf our journey has proven anything, it's that it takes a village to raise a child. And for many of us in the LGBTQ+ community, that village is each other. We've been lucky to have an entire support network become part of our family, and it reminds me that none of us can do this alone. Not everyone has a setup like ours (most people don't have their ex-husband living out back!), but each of us can be part of a supportive village in our way.So here's my call to action: let's strengthen our community, one step at a time. Perhaps it's offering to babysit for the two moms down the street so they can finally enjoy a night out or volunteering with an LGBTQ+ youth organization to help more kids find safe, loving homes. And when someone insists, "kids need a mother and a father," you can gently share stories like ours to show that what kids truly need is love and support.Every night, once the kids are asleep, I sit and marvel at how far we've come. If you told me ten years ago that I'd be sitting on a couch between my husband and my ex, watching our twins wrestle over their iPads, I'd have thought you were crazy. Yet here we are: three dads, two happy kids, and hopes of another on the way, all under one roof, making it work. It's unconventional, absolutely, but it's our reality, and I would have it no other way.Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. 'Survivor' winner Luciano Plazibat reacts to the gays flooding his DMs
Between winning Survivor Croatia and going viral with a video of himself singing and dancing to "Abracadabra" by Lady Gaga, this has been a very special Pride Month for Luciano Plazibat. Now, the professional dancer and reality TV heartthrob is spilling some tea about his run on the show, his connection with Lady Gaga, and the response he's been getting from the gays since that viral video.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!"I have to admit that being on Survivor Croatia was never on my wish list, let alone imagining that I could win," Plazibat tells Out. "I always thought Survivor was more for the 'manly men,' for lack of a better word. Guys who excel at sports. And I'm a dancer. This could also be my upbringing talking, but [I thought] a dancer is for Dancing With the Stars, and athletic men go to Survivor."He adds, "I found that being a dancer definitely helped in the physical challenges on the show, so I changed my own mind and proved to myself that I'm capable of different things even if I didn't necessarily plan for them. Survivor is hard; it was one of the most challenging experiences of my life. But after being on the show, I feel that not much else will be harder than that."Though Plazibat is still recovering from competing on (and winning) Survivor Croatia, the 26-year-old spent the weekend celebrating Zagreb Pride, has his 27th birthday coming up in a week Monday, June 23 and wants to attend Tomorrowland this year.See on Instagram"We're the best of friends, but she doesn't know it yet," Plazibat jokes when asked about Mother Monster. "Just kidding!"In reality, the Survivor winner was 10 years old when he first saw Gaga "coming out of that pool in the 'Poker Face' music video," adding: "I thought to myself, 'I need to have that mask, but also those bangs.' And the rest is history; I was a fan ever since."Plazibat says that being a Gaga fan has "kept me going as a dancer" over the years. "I'm still working towards one day performing [with her] and being on stage myself," he explains. "Name any one of her songs and I can dance it out right now."See on InstagramAnd yet, that creative connection with Gaga actually took an even more personal turn while Plazibat competed on Survivor Croatia."In week two, some of the contestants made fun of me for being her fan. They even mentioned it as one of the reasons why I should be kicked out half-jokingly, probably," he recalls. "But, to me, it became like a symbol of staying on Survivor. The longer I stayed, the more I would sing and dance."Plazibat's also proud to reveal that loving Lady Gaga is a family affair. "After two months of being on the show, we received video messages from our families, and my father quoted Lady Gaga in his video message," the Survivor Croatia star notes. "He wanted to motivate me, and send his support, and he knew exactly what to do."@lucianoplazibatMeet Plazibat family #moreenergy #passion #family #fypThe very online gays were introduced to Plazibat through his viral video of "Abracadabra," which was filmed after he had already won Survivor. The Croatian series airing on Nova TV since 2022 shared that video on its official Instagram page, which took Plazibat by surprise."That video was actually filmed before my final interview on the TV studio. We were waiting for the interview to start," he explains. "Me being me, I felt like the room needed some entertainment; a little bit of 'Abracadabra.'"As far as Plazibat knew, he was just trying to entertain himself and the production crew while the equipment was set up for his final interview. Though he was mic'd and knew the cameras were on, he didn't realize that the footage of him singing and dancing "Abracadabra" before his final interview would ever be used."It was a surprise to me to when the channel decided to post that," he says, adding that he also didn't expect that the video would go so viral. "I was very surprised, but also very happy, that the Little Monster community picked up on it."See on Instagram"Picked up on it" is an understatement: The video has gotten millions of views, and has reached way more people than just Little Monsters. The official Instagram page for Survivor Croatia first shared Plazibat's "Abracadabra" video on Saturday, May 24. Overall, the video has already reached 1.2 million views. On Wednesday, May 28 just four days later Plazibat's video was re-shared on X/Twitter and got a new wave of very thirsty (and very queer!) responses."A contestant on Survivor sang Abracadabra," X/Twitter user @nichblink wrote along with the video, which can be seen below. This clip alone has reached 4.8 million views as of this writing including 41,000 likes, 8,000 bookmarks, and 3,300 re-shares.Popular responses to the viral X/Twitter video include:"A big ass Chromatica tattoo." @nichblink"The clap being precisely on beat is so satisfying." @RandomSisco"Even the bulge was hyped af." @volevonasceref"He can abracadabra his d*ck in my h*le." @veterangagastan"Oh he has the choreo DOWN!! He even paused for the slayage at the end." @MztrGaga"His bulge [face exhaling]." @everardojnrr"I need him to abra my cadabra." @cuutehoney"I see some magic I want to do a trick on." @LosTexasDiablo (@) Plazibat has accumulated 17 million likes and 348,700 followers on TikTok (@lucianoplazibat), 117,000 followers on Instagram (@lucianoplazibat), and 5,000 followers on X/Twitter (@PlazibatLuciano) as of this writing.Specifically, he's gained 9,500 followers on Instagram and 7,000 followers on TikTok since that viral "Abracadabra" video (via Social Blade). When asked about the reception of the video, Plazibat reveals that quite a few gays have been sliding into his DMs. "But who doesn't enjoy a little bit of flirting in the DMs? Or, in this case, a lot of flirting in the DMs."Wildest response to the video so far? "A certain adult movie actor re-posted my video on his story and wrote, 'Marry me.' And that's nice, right? Because usually it's the other way around."And, if anyone's curious, Plazibat confirms during this Out interview that he is indeed gay and single.See on InstagramEven when facing no-so-positive reactions to the viral video, Plazibat remains unbothered and even friendly."I figured out why Luciano Plazibat is irritating to me, and the sad truth is because the guy is actually happy, and it radiates from him. I'm just jealous and projecting," X user @trjkvcnkl wrote on Friday, May 30.Plazibat reacted to that X post, writing: "Hahahahaha, Nikola, let's grab some coffee."So, what's next for the Survivor Croatia winner? "Right now I'm taking some time off for the summer," he says. "I have some offers and plans for future projects in the fall, but nothing confirmed yet.""But, whatever I do, I'll see to it that it's always something creative and entertaining for me and for others. Everyone needs a little bit of 'Abracadabra' right now," Plazibat says.@lucianoplazibatNe znam mogu li bit lui od ovoga GLEDAMO SE USKORO!! Na mom instagramu imate vie o ovome! Two Pedros are better than one And a Brooklyn dad was crowned the winner of a Pedro Pascal look-alike contest in New York City on Sunday, June 15.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!A man named George Gountas beat out 30 other contestants for the title, $50, and a years supply of burritos from Lower East Sides Son Del North Mexican restaurant.Gountas a lighting designer on The Daily Show started getting comments about having a similar appearance to Pascal's when "Game of Thrones came out the first time that's when we first heard it," Gountas's wife, Jenny Gania, told The Wrap."Then some kids started noting it, too, so I was like, when we saw this [contest], I was like, 'It's Father's Day. You have to go. It's going to be your Father's Day treat," Gania added. "It's funny, because [Gountas is] not on social media at all. But now he's going to be everywhere." (@) Annisha Garcia, owner of Lower East Sides Son Del North Mexican, said she hosted the contest in part in response to Pascal's 2023 comment claiming there was no "good Mexican food in New York." "There is, and we are here," Garcia responded. The current trend of lookalike contests took off in 2024 after NYC hosted an event for Timothe Chalamet, and the Oscar-nominated actor actually showed up to the event. Pascal didn't make this contest, but perhaps one day he'll cross paths with Gountas. The self-proclaimed "lazy 50 year old bougie bitch" has become a viral sensation as of late, following his beloved roles in Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, and more. He's also an outspoken ally to his transgender sibling and even slammed J.K. Rowling after the Harry Potter author gloated about a UK Supreme Court ruling that excluded trans women from certain legal protections. "Heinous loser behavior," the actor wrote.

  • Let’s Talk About It: When LGBTQ Folks Hurt Each Other
We talk a lot about homophobia, transphobia, and the fight for equality from the outside world. But there’s something we don’t talk about nearly enough — the hurt that happens within the LGBTQ community itself. Yep, LGBTQ-on-LGBTQ hate is real. And it can sting just as much, if not more, than what we face from outside. Whether it’s gatekeeping, judgment, racism,...

  • Ginger Minj On Rupaul S Drag Race All Stars 10
    WWW.OUT.COM
'Drag Race All Stars 10' was Ginger Minj's shot to 'take my life back'
Ginger Minj's return to Mama Ru's queendom on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10, a.k.a. the Tournament of All Stars, comes 10 years after her reality TV debut on Drag Race season 7. While the self-proclaimed "glamour toad" comes off as a confident, veteran queen in our screens, that wasn't necessarily how she felt at the time Oh, at all.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!"I literally started this season at my heaviest weight ever. My health was in the trash," Ginger tells Out, adding that she's excited for the fans to "see me take my life back throughout the season. As a fan of the show, outside of being a competitor, I am really excited to see how it all plays out."This third and final bracket of All Stars 10 has three new-school queens between Alyssa Hunter, Daya Betty, and Denali, who are contrasted with three old-school queens like Ginger, Acid Betty, and Cynthia Lee Fontaine."Cynthia and I met before either one of us did Drag Race, back when we were still doing Continental pageantry. I knew her from then; she's always been cuckoo crazy," Ginger recalls. "I met Acid Betty while hosting the season 8 premiere party in New York, and we went on tour together for a year and a half after that."Ginger describes Acid Betty as a queen with a "crusty, crotchety outer exterior" who is also "the sweetest little marshmallow inside.""Most of my favorite old-school drag queens are that way," she points out. "They have that rough and gruff exterior because that's the environment that we were raised in. You had to be rough, and tough, to get your place in the drag community. But on the inside, they're giving and kind and nurturing and sweet."Ginger believes that young Drag Race fans still struggle to understand the realities of being a drag artist before Ru's drag queendom took over the world."I first started drag at this little gay bar in Leesburg, Florida, which is where I'm from," she explains. "We had to park in a ditch across the street, and run across the highway, while all the rednecks set up there with bottles and rocks and bricks to throw at us, screaming 'f*ggot,' as we ran to the club to make $25 and get two drink tickets.""We didn't do it for the fame or the money. We did it for the love of the art and the love of our community. We all had to have a rough outer shell but the ones who stuck around the longest are the ones who had a heart of gold," she recalls. As we flash back to different times, it stands out that Ginger was 29 on the verge of 30 while competing in season 7. Going into All Stars 10, Ginger was 39 about to enter her 40s.During her first guest judge stint on Drag Race season 7, Ariana Grande was around 21 years old. A decade later, Grande has shown up to All Stars 10 as a 31-year-old pop star and Academy Award-nominated actress promoting the Wicked: For Good sequel to her 2024 blockbuster musical film Wicked costarring alongside Cynthia Erivo."Ariana and I, season 7 was both of our first season on Drag Race. That's where I got to meet her for the first time," Ginger recalls. "And because I got to meet her 10 years ago, I've felt like a proud sister during her career watching her reach the level that she's reached now. It was exhilarating to be able to kind of flip that around, and let her see how far I've come since we first met."Ginger admits that her 10-year-old connection with Grande did add some extra pressure to her performance in the maxi challenge (and subsequent lip sync). Furthermore, she really wanted to "nail it" not only for Grande, but also for Erivo."Cynthia has been such a supportive fan of mine, especially on the internet," Ginger says. "And as a lifelong fan of The Wizard of Oz, and musical theater, and Wicked, there was just so much [pressure]. I was like, 'If you don't nail this one thing, just throw the whole season away,'" she laughs.Ginger also highlights that she hads "never [done] a serious lip sync on RuPaul's Drag Race," which is kind of a shocking but accurate recollection. In season 7, Ginger lip synced to "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany (episode 8) and "Show Me Love" by Robin S. (episode 10). Her next two lip syncs were on All Stars 6: "Phone" by Lizzo (episode 5) and "Sugar Walls" by Sheena Easton (episode 8).Those past lip syncs had "always been in my campy wheelhouse, which is something that I excel at," Ginger notes, "but it was exhilarating to do something that really let me use my dramatic musical theater chops that I hadn't shown on Drag Race before."Ginger and Daya lip synced to "Defying Gravity" from the original Broadway cast recording of the Wicked musical in this case, sung by Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda. Nonetheless, Grande was in tears by the end of the lip sync, and Ginger was deemed the winner of the lip sync.I tell Ginger, jokingly, that she had basically turned All Stars into a sports tournament already before the official "Tournament of All Stars" format was even introduced. Just like the Summer Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, Ginger's All Stars stints were all four seasons apart: All Stars 2, All Stars 6, and All Stars 10.This also means that Ginger literally experienced the three most notable formats in All Stars herstory: the lipstick/legacy format introduced on All Stars 2, the Ru-mocracy/Lip Sync Assassin format of All Stars 6, and the brand-new Tournament of All Stars bracket system of All Stars 10."This is probably my favorite of all of the games that I've played on the show," Ginger declares. "And, to be honest with you, over the years, I have been asked to come back for different projects But I never wanted to be redundant. I didn't want to play the same game twice. But every time that there was a new exciting concept, I said yes, and I came back."She continues, "This [Tournament format] reminds me so much of drag pageantry, which is where I first made my name. You've got the three brackets, which are like the preliminary pageants. And then you've got the semi-finals going into the final lip sync, which is the big national pageant."As someone with plenty of experience competing through different pageant systems, Ginger remarks that it's "really fun to see Drag Race catching up with the real, outside-of-television drag world, throwing it back to OG drag pageant rules."Ginger also acknowledges the other casting wildcard of the season, Jorgeous, who had just competed on All Stars 9 last year and was brought right back for All Stars 10. "I hope that Jorgeous and I aren't the only ones that get to do this," Ginger says. "I hope that there are tons of girls that come back and keep trying.""Just because you get older, it doesn't mean you lose your dreams, right?" she considers. "And that's what drag pageantry is all about. You go back every year until you win."RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10 drops new episodes every Friday on Paramount+.

'Project Runway' star shot and killed at No Kings protest
Former Project Runway contestant, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, was killed during a "No Kings" protest on Saturday. The Samoan fashion designer attended the demonstration in Salt Lake City and was caught in the middle of gunfire that broke out.According to Deadline, police say the shooter was a "peacekeeper" who began firing after a man with an AR-15-style rifle aimed it at the crowd. The man with the rifle was identified as Arturo Gamboa, who was wearing an all-black outfit and a black mask, and attempted to fire the gun at the demonstration. Deadline writes that two men saw Gamboa move away from the crowd and to a secluded area, where he seemed to have drawn his gun. One of the two men, who were described as "peacekeepers," saw this and fired three rounds. One hit Gamboa and another killed Ah Loo, Deadline reports. The publication reported that this "peacekeeper" was allegedly "recruited by rally organizers, though a spokesperson for the organizers has said that the 'safety teams' were asked not to bring guns."The Salt Lake City police department gave Deadline a statement that said, "As panic spread throughout the area, hundreds of people ran for safety, hiding in parking garages, behind barriers, and going into nearby businesses. Officers found a man who had been shot and immediately began life-saving efforts." It continued, Despite those efforts, the man died at the hospital. The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death."The police department's statement said that "Ah Loo was participating in the demonstration and appears to have been an innocent bystander who was not the intended target of the gunfire."Ah Loo was a beloved member of the Project Runway community after competing on the show in season 17 and is survived by his wife This story is still developing

Which does not afford me a lot of VIP treatment some of the time."She added, "When I'm playing the villain, I'm the one in f*cking charge, and everyone's scared for a change. That's probably why I like doing it.""I get that," Klemens agreed. "There's gotta be something nice where it's like, 'Oh, I'm not the one who could be a victim right now.'""Right!" Jinkx replied. Benito Skinner reveals possible 'Overcompensating' season 2 storylines
Season 2 of Prime Video's latest LGBTQ+ series Overcompensating hasn't been greenlit just yet, but the stars and showrunner shared their ideas and a how-to for fans for a potential second season. Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox! The comedy series both raunchy and heartfelt follows Benny (played by Benito Skinner, who also created the show): A closeted freshman in college struggling to balance his true identity with the pressure to fit in. Though initially underestimated upon release, Overcompensating quickly skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on Prime Video's watchlist and became a bona fide streaming sensation. Now, fans are desperate for more.Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone, alongside showrunner Scott King, spoke on a panel at an FYC event in Hollywood on Monday, June 16 and revealed what plotlines they'd love to dive into next."We have so many stories that we are not done telling," said Skinner. "We're so inspired by this cast and some of the people who came in for one day. We got Connie [Britton] and Kyle [MacLachlan] for like four days total, and what they've done in this show is remarkable. Caleb Heron was there for one day. Owen Thiele was there for like three. There's so much more to say in that experience of someone who's in the closet versus out, and the friction and finding friendship and that. Also, the siblings! There's so much to say here, and if you've seen the finale, you know that they might have to talk. I think we're ready to go. I mean, we've pitched it. We're ready." See on Instagram Scott King threw in his own pitch around the fan-favorite character played by Holmes. "Spring break with Hailee," the showrunner said. "Hailee directing Spring Break. We are so excited.""Zedd, 'Clarity' playing," Skinner jumped back in. "Chainsmokers, 'Roses.'"Skinner went on to reflect on the impact Season 1 is having, especially on the LGBTQ+ community."Some of the conversations I've had in the past few months are like, 'oh, but a coming out story now? Everyone's gay," recalled Skinner. "Maybe in Los Angeles and maybe in New York, but I don't think we know what people are saying in locker rooms in Idaho still, and I think if it's anything like what's going on in the White House, it's probably not that nice. It really took me one line that someone said when I was in first grade to be like, oh, I'm unlovable like this. I have to change who I am." See on Instagram Today, he's proud to hear stories from people who saw themselves in the show or even just a scene or a moment, though some of the DMs might be a bit TMI. "There's this moment, and I think that this did feel human and universal, but I get on all fours and I go through a trash can to see if a condom has been used or not. You have to not judge me. Yes, it's art, but it's really romantic. It's romantic when you watch. It was sweet. We shot it beautifully."The moment is the beginning of episode 6, where Benny allows his straight crush to bring a girl back to his dorm room."I think all of us have a private moment of exploring desire," Skinner reflects. "I know that all of you have done some shit like this because my DMs after... I didn't need to know that! Please don't tell me. Save it for your show, do it publicly on Prime."The actor also playfully revealed ways fans of the show could help get season 2 greenlit. "Go home and stream it, even if you've seen it, before you go to bed. It's really beautiful on the TV, the light reflecting off of it as you leave the house for the day," he said, to laughter from the crowd. "No, we probably aren't allowed to do that.""Write! Write to Amazon. Write to your senators," Barone added. You can watch Overcompensating right now on Prime Video.

A trans woman, forced to compete against men, swims topless in protest
Anne Isabella Coombes is taking a stand, and she's doing it topless.Coombes, 67, a longtime resident of Reading, England, swam in a recent Cornwall County Masters Championship and made quite a statement while doing so.Coombes, who is transgender, was forced to compete against men in the event. In protest, she wore the same men's swimming trunks that the men wore, meaning she competed topless."I asked them what costume I was supposed to wear, as there are rules around how much fabric can be on your body," Coombes told the Reading Chronicle. "They confirmed that I need to wear a female swimming costume despite having to compete with the men, which 'outs' me as a woman who is transgender.""I explained to the person on the phone that they are not allowed to do that, and he didn't have an answer," she continued.Coombes said that her protest is meant to show that the policy "isn't thought through" and only targets trans people. She also emphasized that she doesn't have a "man's advantage" in athletic competitions."I want to make it clear through this protest that trans people are not a threat when it comes to sport," she said. "We aren't winning everything, and if we started to, then I would be first in line to discuss other options. Right now, it is a non-issue."Coombes did not beat any men in any of the solo races she swam in.According to the Reading Chronicle, Coombes was informed that it is within the referee's discretion at an event to determine whether her swimwear is in "good moral taste" per Swim England policies."Deciding on whether exposing my breasts is in 'good moral taste' or whether I need to cover them up so that 'those involved in competitive swimming are appropriately safeguarded' is an entirely subjective decision of the referee," she said. "In other words, I could turn up to the competition and run the risk of not being able to compete in whichever costume I intend to wear. No other swimmer has this concern. These regulations also mean that Swim England is treating me as a male by default."Coombes began transitioning five years ago at the age of 62, and had been a member of Reading Swimming Club for 30 years. In 2022, she applied to swim as a female for the first time. After providing information and details about her transition, Swim England ruled she could compete as a female at a 2023 Sheffield masters event."Masters' swimming is usually very inclusive. They do try and let anyone compete. I came second in that race," Coombes said. "The woman who came first was a whole length ahead of me. She broke the European record; she's an excellent swimmer. I'm trying to emphasize that this is not a trans person coming in and nicking places from other people."However, by September 2023, Swim England had new regulations that called for two categories: female and "open.""Only athletes who have declared a birth sex of female will compete in the 'female' category," the policy states. The policy also says the "open" category is for "athletes with a birth sex of male, trans or nonbinary competitors." It does not specify what category athletes who are trans or nonbinary and were assigned female at birth should compete in.

BREAKING: Adult performer Austin Wolf to plead guilty to federal child pornography charges
Justin Heath Smith, the gay adult performer widely known as Austin Wolf, is expected to plead guilty Friday to at least one charge related to federal child pornography possession that carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence, marking a grim turning point in a case that has sent tremors through the adult entertainment industry and LGBTQ+ communities online. The plea hearing is scheduled for Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, according to newly filed court documents. In a letter to U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, defense attorney Thomas H. Andrykovitz wrote that Smith intends to plead guilty to a mandatory minimum charge with a significant advisory range under the United States Sentencing Guidelines. The government did not oppose the delay from the original Wednesday hearing date. This has been continued since last summer.Smith, 43, has been held without bond at the MDC Brooklyn since his arrest in June 2024. Prosecutors allege he exchanged hundreds of videos of child sexual abuse material via the encrypted messaging app Telegram, including footage involving prepubescent children and infants. The case was initially sparked by a federal undercover operation and a subsequent search of Smiths Manhattan apartment, where agents allegedly found an SD card containing illegal content. In his filing, Andrykovitz cited the complexity of the case and the essential need for more time to prepare Smith for allocution. A defendant must accept responsibility for their crimes when they plead guilty. Proceeding on the current schedule would not permit meaningful preparation, he wrote, noting the defenses longstanding relationship with Smith and their intent to ensure the plea is knowing and voluntary.A case that shattered illusions The case against Smithwho cultivated an image of power, luxury, and masculinity in the gay adult entertainment world under the moniker Austin Wolfhas prompted a reckoning within corners of the industry and among fans. While Smith has not yet publicly addressed the charges, multiple industry peers have distanced themselves or spoken out in disgust since the allegations became public. Many said they were unsurprised, given Smiths propensity for featuring very young-looking individuals in many of his videos, particularly those on sites like OnlyFans. As Pride previously reported, Smith was charged last summer after federal agents said he distributed and possessed child sex abuse material. Prosecutors allege that Smith sent the illicit content to an undercover FBI agent and that the digital evidence included some of the most graphic and egregious violations federal law covers. His legal team has maintained that the charges remain unproven and criticized the conditions at MDC Brooklyn, where Smith has been detained since June 28, 2024. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Smiths detention but declined to comment on specific allegations due to privacy and security protocols. While the exact plea terms have not been disclosed, the language in the defenses June 17 motion strongly indicates that Smith will accept a deal involving incarceration.

Meet the gay couple leading Fire Island's architectural revival
Theres an architectural renaissance happening on Fire Island Pines. And its being led by BOND, a New York-based architecture studio founded by Noam Dvir and Daniel Rauchwerger, business (and real-life) partners who are presently helming over 15 projects across the storied gay mecca. (The firm is an acronym for Bureau of Noam and Daniel.) Recently, the American Institute of Architects New York paid tribute to the work of BOND through a tour of its Pines projects, which include a 1950s Sears catalog home and the residence of Andrew Kirtzman, a prominent reporter who is hailed as the unofficial mayor of the hamlet. Pictured in this spread, these projects pay tribute to the legacy of Fire Islands midcentury pioneers, Horace Gifford and Harry Bates, while also preparing for a future impacted by climate change. And vitally, the queer-led BOND understands the role of construction in the preservation of culture, community, and history, which cofounder Noam Dvir discusses ahead. Partners in life and love, Daniel Rauchwerger (left) and Noam Dvir.Chris FucileTell us how you met and fell in love.We met back in Israel when we were both journalists for [the] Haaretz newspaper. I was the architectural critic, and Daniel wrote about the art world. It was kind of love at first sight. I was invited to be a guest critic on his review in architecture school in Jerusalem, and I saw him walking into the room and knew that this is going to be the rest of my life. Tarpon ExteriorChris MottaliniYou founded an architecture studio together, BOND. How did that come about? We started working on a few smaller projects like exhibitions and design research while we were still students at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Later on, we worked for the same architecture office, but it was always our dream to start our own practice; we waited until we got our green cards and started BOND pretty much right after [in] winter of 2020. It was COVID lockdown, and we basically started the office in our own living room. Like many architecture studios, we started with small projects, mostly for us and for friendsstudio apartments and one-bedroom renovations. The first significant project we had was a design for Company Gallery in SoHo in New York, and thats what kind of put us on the map in terms of being a real office. Shortly after that, we also started working with [art collector] Ilan Cohen on his Fire Island house. That was the first project we did in the Pines. Tarpon ExteriorChris MottaliniHow would you characterize the work you do with BOND?Our work is deeply personal and is driven by a strong narrative. Projects begin in the conceptual realm and manifest through strong architectural moves. Every and each project is unique, and with every project, we try to say something new. What are the rewards and challenges of working together as a couple? We could write an entire article about this. We are very lucky that we complement and complete each other both professionally and personally. Life is work, and work is life, and we are so lucky to have been able to build a practice around queer clients and queer culture. Nautilus ExteriorChris MottaliniWhy is working on Fire Island important to you? There are few places in the world where theres such a distinct connection between architecture, ecology, and gender. The architecture of the Pines embodies this unique relationship and presents a utopia-like environment: multigenerational, queer-focused, and community-focused. Nautilus Living RoomChris MottaliniWhat are some of the difficulties you encounter while building on an island? To start with, its an island so every tile, sheet rock panel, sofa, spoon, and stud (if you pardon the pun) has to go on a boat. This presents a logistical difficulty and added complexity to the construction process. The permitting in coastal environments, prone to storms, adds a layer of structural and mechanical complexity to the design. And to top it all off, theres a limited number of contractors, plumbers, and electricians available to work on projects at any given time. On our end, this means more planning and more assistance in the procurement of materials, and more oversight of projects under construction. Most of the work is carried out during winter the general contractors are heroes, really! They show up in rain, snow, and sun. Ilan Cohens Dining RoomChris MottaliniIn a given project, how do you go about honoring Fire Islands history and community while also looking to its future? The Pines has an incredible architectural legacy: Architects like Horace Gifford and Harry Bates developed a unique expression of modern architecture that is in sync with the natural surroundings and with the special lifestyle in the Pines. We are honored to contribute to this legacy, and with many of our projects, we seek to establish a direct connection to the style and attitude developed in the Pines in the 1960s and 1970s using cedar wood, designing spaces for nonnuclear families, thinking of how houses accommodate queer lifestyles. Where do people gather? Where do people gossip? How do you design spaces for desire? llan Cohens Home InteriorChris MottaliniTell us about your favorite project on Fire Island. We are currently building our first ground-up [construction] in the Pines. Its the largest single property in the Pines, covering three lots. The design has a floating volume hovering above a generous deck space and an open courtyard that connects the deck to the house and the house to the roof deck. It is also one of the first ground-ups to be built to FEMA regulations, which means that the house is raised 14 feet above sea level. Its an important building in the context of the Pines, but also a case study for many coastal communities. What do you hope is the legacy of your work?I hope that our work both preserves and innovates on the incredible legacy of the Pines, and that it continues to entice homeowners and guests in years to come. This article is part of Out's July/August issue, which hits newsstands July 1. Jinkx Monsoon's next act? Playing Mary Todd Lincoln in 'Oh, Mary!'
Jinkx Monsoon has been cast to play Mary Todd Lincoln, the titular/lead character of the Tony Award-winning Broadway play Oh, Mary! created by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton an eight-week run starting on Monday, August 4.Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Monsoon made this official announcement during an appearance on The Today Show this Wednesday, June 18, saying:"As you may know, Oh, Many! has been the show on everyone's lips thanks to my friends Sam Pinkleton and Cole Escola, who created one of the best shows of all time. And I will be taking over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln starting September 27.""To be very clear, I am in Pirates until the end of the run of Pirates. And then, about a week later, I take over Mary Todd." When asked how she planned to do all of that at the same time, Monsoon replied, "I'm a witch, baby. I find ways."Monsoon added, "I told my agents, I have to take August off unless Oh, Mary! calls, and they went, 'Oh, Mary! called.'""I feel very honored and privileged to be in this position right now because, as a trans feminine actress, I was convinced this wasn't possible, you know?" Monsoon explained. "I thought I had to choose to be an actor or choose to be a trans person, but I didn't think the world was gonna let me be both."She went on, "And what's been so beautiful is that, as soon as I kind of made it to this Broadway world, it felt like there was a space already waiting for me. To be on Broadway at this time with people like Cole Esola, and Darren Criss, and Audra McDonald. They're all doing these incredible things. They're friends of mine, and I get to celebrate." It's really just been a magical time."Michelle Buteau commented, "And you know that by creating a space for yourself, wholly and safely, you're creating so many other spaces for so many other trans actors and trans people.""That's the hope, definitely," Monsoon replied. "I want the door to stay open behind me. [This moment is] only because of trans actresses and drag performers on Broadway before me: Angela Ross, Laverne Cox, Peppermint my good friend Peppermint, who originated a role as a trans feminine actress before I did. These people paved the way for me to be here, and I want to do the same for others."Monsoon's eight-week run on Oh, Mary! is scheduled to take place between August 4 and September 28. Until then, the performer will conclude her run on Broadway's Pirates! The Penzance Musical, in which she plays Ruth.Besides Monsoon's casting, Oh, Mary! has been officially extended until January 2026 following its critical praise at the Tonys and continuous commercial success at the box office. This week, for instance, Oh, Mary! broke the house record at the Lyceum for the 12th time "a six-figure increase from the week previous to see it take in nearly $1.4 million," Playbill reports.Overall, Monsoon will be the fourth-ever performer to play the Emmy Award-winning role, following Cole Escola (who created the show and originated the role), Betty Gilpin, and Tituss Burgess. Notably, Monsoon will be the first new performer to play the part since Oh, Mary! won two Tony Awards.

Gilded Age's Morgan Spector is a 'service top,' asks, 'Straight guys can't bottom?'
Morgan Spector, who stars in the HBO hit drama The Gilded Age, reviewed some top-bottom confusion in his most recent interview with GQ. During the conversation, he was asked about a comment he made during a Los Angeles Times Drama Talk roundtable last year, where he said, "I'm very much creatively a bottom. Tell me what to do and just let me obey." His comment made the rounds on the gay side of social media, thanks to the culture connoisseur Evan Ross Katz, who posted about it on his Instagram account. See on Instagram In his interview with GQ Hype, Spector was given the space to remind people that he is straight (he's been married to Rebecca Hall since 2015) and explain what he meant by being a "bottom," creatively. I just made a joke, thats really what it is!" he told the magazine. I like being able to use my intuition and my intelligence to plug into somebody elses ideas, learn their language, learn their way of communicating, figure out what the thing is that theyre trying to make, and then deliver that. The star, who is affectionately known as "Railroad Daddy," thanks to his Gilded Age character being a railroad tycoon, went on to crack a joke and said, "I guess its more of being a service top, creatively, than being a bottom. The interviewer also brought up the accusations of queerbaiting that Spector faced after his original comments were made last year. Spector gracefully answered the question and asked, "Straight guys cant bottom? I mean, people can play with dominance and submission in heterosexual relationships." See on Instagram He goes on to say, "Were living in a moment now where were exploding ideas of gender. We deconstruct, these things are not fixed. Its theater, baby. Were all playing in the same sandbox in a certain way.Katz posted his GQ interview comments on his Instagram and the gays are still thirsting over him. "These words coming from daddy made me feel stuff," one person commented. Another person suggested that Carrie Coon's character, who is married to Spector's character, is "def a top."

Trump Administration to close LGBTQ+ youth suicide hotline in 30 days
The Trump Administration will eliminate funding for a crucial suicide hotline dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth in just one month. The federal government will close the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifelines LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services a federal program that provides emergency crisis support to queer youth considering suicide effective July 17, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration announced Wednesday. This is several months ahead of its initial October 1 closure deadline, first revealed by leaked budget draft in April. This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics," Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, said in a statement. "The administrations decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible. The fact that this news comes to us halfway through Pride Month is callous as is the administrations choice to remove the T from the acronym LGBTQ+ in their announcement. Transgender people can never, and will never, be erased."The Trevor Project estimates that more than 1.8 million LGBTQ+ youth in the U.S. seriously consider suicide each year, and at least one attempts suicide every 45 seconds. The LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services, funded through the Department of Health and Human Services, has provided more than 1.2 million people with queer-inclusive crisis services, and the 988 Lifeline has served more than 14 million, government data shows. The Trevor Projects crisis services saw a 33 percent increase in calls and messages on the day of Trump's inauguration compared to the weeks prior. Volume went up 46 percent the next day in comparison to typical daily rates. This followed a record-breaking 700 percent increase observed across the Trevor Projects crisis lines on November 6, the day after the presidential election.I want every LGBTQ+ young person to know that you are worthy, you are loved, and you belong despite this heartbreaking news," Black continued. "The Trevor Projects crisis counselors are here for you 24/7, just as we always have been, to help you navigate anything you might be feeling right now.The funding cuts can still be reversed by Congress. The Trevor Project is calling on legislators to restore funding for the lifeline in its annual budget, which individuals can support by visiting TheTrevorProject.org/ActNow.If you or someone you know needs mental health resources and support, you can still call, text, or chat with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or visit 988lifeline.org for 24/7 access to free and confidential services. Trans Lifeline, designed for transgender or gender-nonconforming people, can be reached at (877) 565-8860. The lifeline also provides resources to help with other crises, such as domestic violence situations. The Trevor Project Lifeline, for LGBTQ+ youth (ages 24 and younger), can be reached at (866) 488-7386. Users can also access chat services at TheTrevorProject.org/Help or text START to 678678.
