WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMeet the queer people taking up arms as Donald Trump moves back into the White HouseWith two weeks to go before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated for a second term, queer people around the country are purchasing guns, joining gun groups, and taking up arms in preparation for a worst-case scenario that may or may not come to pass. This country is not, I wouldnt say, on very solid footing, nonbinary gun owner Doug told the Philadelphia Inquirer recently. As a Boy Scout, Id rather be prepared. Related LGBTQ+ gun group takes aim at the far-rights violent threats Some members of Rainbow Reload say theyre fighting against authoritarianism and for our right to exist. Doug is among a growing number of LGBTQ+ people going on offense in the face of what they fear will be a worsening climate for queer people under an administration openly hostile to them. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Were not looking to arm up and storm the Capitol, one gun owner said. We just dont want to be put in concentration camps.Following a national election that saw $215 million spent attacking the trans community, as well as bans on healthcare for trans people, a continuing crusade to erase LGBTQ+ identity from schools and libraries, and increases in violence directed at sexual minorities, groups like the Pink Pistols, Rainbow Reload, and theSocialist Rifle Association, whose motto is We Keep Us Safe, are growing in popularity among queer people fearing for their lives.A spokesperson for the national Liberal Gun Club said his group has received thousands of training requests since the election, more than in all of 2023. He estimates about a quarter were from LGBTQ people. The head of the Delaware Valley chapter of the Pink Pistols, a longtime gay gun group with the slogan Armed Gays Dont Get Bashed, said hes received a sudden flurry of emails inquiring about gun training.Theres definitely a feeling among a lot of LGBT individuals: If I cant protect myself, who will? said Madeline Shearman, a trans woman based in Pennsylvania who runs a 2A social group devoted to exercising gun rights granted by the Second Amendment. I feel that way myself.Three months before the election, thats when the alarm bells started to ring, said a trans woman and new gun owner who identified by the initial A. to protect her privacy. She bought her first gun on November 2. Minorities that are armed are more difficult to legally oppress, she said. She found peace of mind in the event of hate crimes or terrorist attacks, knowing that, OK, Im personally armed and I can protect my property and people that are close to me. Now shes applying for a concealed carry permit in Pennsylvania. While gun ownership numbers for queer people are hard to come by, a shift in the buying patterns for arms indicates a change over the last four years, a peak for gun purchases.David Yamane, a Wake Forest sociology professor, calls the change Gun Culture 2.0.Twenty-one million background checks were conducted for the sale of a firearm in 2020, a 60 percent rise over the previous year, mostly concentrated among white men, particularly conservative men in rural areas. Four years ago,NBC Newsfound, about 24 percent of Black households owned guns. Now its 41 percent. The same percentage of Democratic households now own guns, up from 33 percent in 2004. Yamanes research shows that new gun owners are more female, more racial minority, more urban, he told the Washingtonian, and its likely gun ownership among LGBTQ+ people is more common than in the past. Those increases accompany a rise in violence directed at the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans people. A2021 reportfrom UCLAs Williams Institute found trans people are more than four times as likely as cisgender people to be victims of violent crime, while one in four trans people say theyve been physically attacked because of their identity, according to a poll conducted by health-policy research nonprofitKFF and theWashington Post. The FBIs tally of hate crimes based on gender identity jumped32 percentfrom 2021 to 2022. Those facts and attacks on womens bodily autonomy, seen in the 2022 Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, catalyzed Lilah, who sees a rising tide of fascism in this country. She learned to shoot as a child and had lost interest; encouraged by her partner Rachel, whom she met at a SCOTUS protest, shes shooting again. All the people who want to kill the people I care about have guns, Rachel says. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMTrans & wildly popular Oprah of China suddenly blackballed by Chinese governmentA hugely popular trans dancer in China is off the stage after four long-scheduled performances were suddenly canceled by government authorities.Performer Jin Xing, dubbed the Oprah of China for her crossover appeal in the conservative Communist country, learned in October that the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism in Guangzhou canceled her show at the citys opera house slated for December, CNN reports. Related 10 arrested for writing gay erotica in China as part of nationwide crackdown A recent sweep in one Chinese province resulted in 50 arrests. Subsequent shows in the cities of Foshan, Suzhou, and the cultural and commercial hub of Shanghai, where her troupe is based, were also calledoff by the venues without explanation. Global perspectives delivered right to your inbox Our newsletter bridges borders to bring you LGBTQ+ news from around the world. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Over a decades-long career, Jin has regularly sold out concerts and counts 13.6 million followers on her Weibo social media account. The 57-year-old hosts TV talk shows and is well-known for her frank and humor-filled commentary.Shes also been lauded by the same government responsible for the cancelations: Chinese state media have called her one of 10 legendary figures of Chinese modern dance, and shes been the subject of glowing published profiles.Authorities in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou, across Jiokeng Bay from Hong Kong, cited insufficient documentation for the sudden cancelation.Following that notification, Jin wrote a rare admonishment to the government in a since-deleted post on Weibo: Please dont abuse your public power! Her three other performances were called off soon after. In an interview with France 24, Jin was asked if the appearance of a rainbow flag at a performance in early 2024 may have contributed to the governments change in attitude about the dancer. She said she waved the flag to comfort the fan who passed it to her. This thing happened in January. After that I performed all over the country and had no issues at all, she said.Even today, I am still questioning why, she said, of being banned from the stage, considering her stature after performing in the country for 40 years. Over that time, China saw an official liberalization of attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community. The country decriminalized homosexuality in 1997 and removed it from its official list of mental disorders in 2001. Events like Shanghai Pride flourished, and LGBTQ+ groups could be found easily on social media sites like WeChat. But those attitudes have changed since 2015, when President Xi Jinping came to power. Hes imposed an increasingly paternalistic grip on the country, with authorities ramping up social controls in a government crusade defending social morals. Jins cancelation is the latest symbolic act of censorship in a years-long campaign to erase the LGBTQ+ community from Chinese society.Shanghai Pride was largely canceled in 2021, the same year gay chat rooms across the mostly government-controlled internet disappeared. Last year, the government initiated a crackdown on online gay erotica, known in China as danmei, sending several writers to prison in a special task force sweep. In 2023, the Beijing LGBT Center was shuttered. The majority have shut down, a Chinese LGBTQ+ activist said of Pride centers across the country at the time. The pressure has continuously grown. WWW.PRIDE.COM15 types of shaming we need to stop nowIt's past time we leave these types of shaming in the rearview!Despite facing our own forms of shaming and intolerance, unfortunately, the LGBTQ+ community is not devoid of homophobia, sexism, misogyny, transphobia, and intolerance, too. But, gays, girlies, and theys, we can do better! And here's where to start.1. HIV or STI shaming Joking that a person has an STD or is HIV-positive is not OK. Attributing a persons sudden weight loss to HIV as a joke or out of skepticism is not okay. HIV is still an epidemic within the LGBTQ+ community, and we should be working to end the stigma associated with STIs, not perpetuating it.2. Kink ShamingLook, we all have our various interests in the bedroom. Sometimes they align with other peoples interests, and sometimes they dont. This type of shaming usually refers to the act of shaming people for their sexual preferences and fetishes, and a lot of it comes from either social norms or personal judgments.3. Victim ShamingIn a lot of ways, this has gotten better since we went through the #MeToo movement, but in a lot of other ways, we have so far to go. We need to focus a little more on holding the perpetrators accountable and a little less on blaming or criticizing the victims for what theyve gone through.4. Social media shamingGoodness, people get brave in the comments when theyre behind a screen, dont they? Social media shaming is literally out of control. People create troll accounts just to harass individuals and many a public figure end up taking a break from their platforms just to chill. 5. Cultural or religious shamingSome Christians do make this one really difficult, especially the ones who tout to love one another and act like maniacal imbeciles. However, outside of those Christians, theres a lot of other shaming around cultural and religious beliefs, especially those we dont understand. All Im saying is you get a lot further with honey than you do with vinegar.6. Fat shamingIt's 2017, and there is still nothing funny, clever, or unique about disparaging others because of their size, shape, or weight. With summer always just around the corner, it seems that bikini body jokes are bound to come back in style. Don't engage in this, and in case you had any doubt, let us remind you: all bodies are beautiful, worthy, and valid. Period.7. Femme shamingOften, members of the LGBTQ+ community takes cues from heteronormative ideas and behavior. This includes toxic concepts about masculinity, which can easily lead to femme shaming. You may think it's funny to disparage someone for looking, sounding, or acting femme, but really, what's wrong with being femme? Jokes like this are often a way of asserting authority or power, which is pretty horrifying when you consider femmes experience higher rates of violence.8. Slut shamingNo one likes a prude. Think before you object to sex positivity or offer an unwanted opinion about other people's sex lives. Shaming those who are sexually active is not only problematic, it's often a projection of shame we've recieved around sex. Remember: it isnt our job to yuck someones yum.9. Bottom shamingIn the land of sexual positions, bottoms are too often the butt of the joke (no pun intended). People have a tendency to characterize submissive and inferior to tops, who are often characterized as more dominant. We shouldn't assume a person is submissive because of their preferred sexual position, and we definitely shouldn't fail to see the underlying sexism in bottom shaming.10. TransphobiaNo one is free until transgender women are free. Transgender people are murdered at a much higher rate than other members of the LGBTQ+ community. When we shame trans people, use transgender as an insult, or question the validity and existence of transgender identities, we devalue them and create a community where they are disposable.11. Homophobic or Transphobic SlursDo not disparage or shame others with homophobic or transphobic slurs. There are plenty of LGBTQ+ people who have taken back ownership of words that were historically used as slurs, and who use them to refer to themselves or amongst friends. However, we should never resort to slurs as a way of tearing others down.12. RacismThe preference vs. discrimination debate comes up a lot when we talk about dating in the LGBTQ+ community. In truth, "preferring" not to date Asian, Latinx, or Black people is a form of racism. Having a preference based on race mean that you are cognitively choosing to not engage with people because of their race. That can be a form of shaming, and is discrimination, plain and simple. Whether that is something comfortable living with or are working through is up to you.13. Addiction shamingOur community deals with a high rate of addiction. Addiction is a real struggle for a lot of people, and shaming others for their battles with addiction is harmful, cruel, and incredibly unhelpful. If someone you know is dealing with addiction, work on ways you can support them. There is undoubtedly more we all could be doing to improve awareness about addiction and access to addiction treatment.14. Identity ShamingBisexual people are not just looking for the best of both worlds. Gay people are not trying to convert you. Queer people are not confused, or coming out because it's trendy. You can't turn a lesbian straight. There is truly no need to shame a person for the identity by repeating any of these misconceptions.15. Age ShamingAgeism is something we younger members of the LGBTQ+ community really need to work on. Remember that our elders lived through the worst of the HIV epidemic, fought for our rights and liberties, and forged the way for us to have many of the opportunities we enjoy now. Make room for LGBTQ+ seniors, and instead of shaming a person for their age when you disagree with their point of view, do your best to understand where they are coming from, agree to disagree, or challenge them politely and with respect.0 Comments 0 Shares 4 Views 0 Reviews

GAYETY.COTheo Germaine Found After Frantic Search, Recovering from ConcussionTheo Germaine, the non-binary actor best known for their role in Netflixs The Politician and the 2022 slasher film They/Them, has been found badly concussed after going missing early Sunday morning. Germaine, 32, was last seen at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, sparking a desperate search by their family. The actors partner, William Rusan, was the first to raise the alarm, posting on social media that Germaine had disappeared while disoriented and without a charged phone. Rusan urged anyone who might have seen Germaine to contact either him or the actors mother. They are disoriented and their phone is not charged. If you see them, DM me, call me or their mother immediately. Thank you and I apologize for the alarm. Concussions are scary, Rusan wrote.Approximately six hours later, Rusan provided an update to their followers, sharing that Germaine had been found. Badly concussed, cold and out of sorts but otherwise unharmed, Rusan wrote on Instagram. The family here cannot thank everyone enough for your help and well wishes. They also mentioned that they would archive the post, explaining that privacy will help the healing after the emergency had been resolved.Rusan continued to share the good news on Facebook, confirming that Germaine was now safely home and under the care of a doctor. However, they cautioned that Germaines recovery would temporarily affect their ability to work with screens, which may result in delayed responses to messages. Their capacity to work with screens will be temporarily diminished (so) they may not be able to get back to everyone quickly, Rusan explained.Details surrounding the circumstances of Germaines disappearance have not been fully disclosed, leaving many concerned about how the actor ended up in such a state.Germaine, who gained prominence for their role as James in The Politician (2019), has been open about their personal and professional experiences as a non-binary actor. They also starred in They/Them, a film about a group of LGBTQ+ teenagers at an isolated conversion camp run by the sinister Owen Whistler (played by Kevin Bacon). In an interview with PinkNews, Germaine expressed the challenges and significance of starring in They/Them, especially given their personal history with conversion therapy.Really dealing with these topics also felt kind of intimidating because of my personal history with the umbrella that is conversion tactics, they shared. It kind of felt like the perfect storm of exactly what I needed to be working on.Germaine also noted the importance of their character in the film, explaining that it felt meaningful to portray a character whose gender identity closely mirrored their own. Ive not really gotten to play somebody yet who fits my real-life profile quite as much, they said. So I was like, I really want to play somebody who uses my [they/them] pronouns, that would be really awesome.Germaines advocacy for non-binary visibility in Hollywood, as well as their willingness to take on roles that resonate deeply with their own experiences, has made them a trailblazer in the entertainment industry. Their experience on set and their willingness to share their journey with fans have garnered widespread respect within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. As of now, Germaines recovery from the concussion is ongoing, and their family has asked for privacy during this time. Fans and supporters have rallied around the actor, sending messages of support and wishing them a speedy recovery. While Germaines disappearance is alarming, the good news is that they are now safe, and they are expected to rest and recover before returning to their work. As an actor, Germaine has been steadily building a reputation for portraying authentic, meaningful characters, and their journey continues to inspire those both in and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. The post Theo Germaine Found After Frantic Search, Recovering from Concussion appeared first on Gayety.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMThis lesbian revealed she just wants to be a 'traditional' wife & it turns out she's not aloneAs we move into 2025, the collective energy among women is a little on the tense side as we wait to see if the United States of America transforms into Gilead from The Handmaidens Tale under Donald Trumps impending rule. The topic of all things femmemale has been hot for a while, especially when it comes to telling them what to do with their bodies or deciding on the roles they should play in both society and the bedroom.Heres the thing: There isnt inherently anything wrong with wanting to have some tradition in your relationship, but its all about how you present it, and its more important about the delivery.Over on the r/actuallesbians page on Reddit, user babybottlepopz ignited a conversation about the traditional roles women used to play in relationships pre-WWII, particularly in regard to being a stay-at-home housewife.I have no career goals, I just wanna be a wife, she started the post. Its pathetic and such a hopeless romantic of me. I wish I had a job I was excited about or a job I was excited to learn about and grow and pursue. But I dont. So Im stuck being sad and unfulfilled until I find a wife. I hate that. I dont want to rely on other people for that. Anyone else relate?I have no career goals, I just wanna be a wife byu/babybottlepopz inactuallesbiansThe conversation, as usual, had split opinions, with some calling career goals a scam and others agreeing that theyd love an opportunity to stay home and simply be a wife. Conversely, some women also want to be the breadwinner in the relationship and would love to have a wife they can simply spoil. But really, what you should be looking for in a wife is not someone to support you financially, but someone who can help you feel happy with your life every day, no matter what that looks like, one user said. Finding a partner with money wont automatically make you happy. This is sound advice, especially for those who teeter between the desire to play a traditional role in what society thinks in a relationship and doing whatever feels best for you.In the end, it's really about finding the partner that most aligns with your vision of what you think a relationship should look like, so always seek that first and foremost. In the meantime, keep scrolling for some of the varied responses to the conversation.Comment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbiansComment byu/babybottlepopz from discussion inactuallesbians0 Comments 0 Shares 4 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMeta caught censoring LGBTQ+ content & says it was mistakenly restrictedMeta has been censoring content labeled with LGBTQ+ hashtags on Instagram, according to journalist Taylor Lorenz. The hashtags, which include #lesbian, #bisexual, #gay, #trans, #queer, #nonbinary, #pansexual, #transwomen, #Tgirl, #Tboy, #Tgirlsarebeautiful, #bisexualpride, and #lesbianpride, were hidden under the companys sensitive content policy targeting sexually suggestive content. Related LibsOfTikTok banned from Bluesky after just 9 days on the site The account regularly accused LGBTQ+ people and allies of grooming, sexualizing, or indoctrinating children. This filter was automatically turned on for minors, leading to a blank page for any teenager seeking out these hashtags. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our newsletter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Lorenz reached out to Meta for comment regarding these restrictions, which prompted the company to reverse them shortly thereafter. These search terms and hashtags were mistakenly restricted, said a representative from Meta to Lorenz. Its important to us that all communities feel safe and welcome on Meta apps, and we do not consider LGBTQ+ terms to be sensitive under our policies. These policies were implemented back in September 2024, when Meta aimed to restrict content viewed by teenagers on Instagram with their new Instagram Teen Accounts, profiles that can only be changed by a parent or guardian. This quickly led to LGBTQ+ content being restricted as well. These same restrictions were not placed on comparable heterosexual content. The restrictions have led to many shadow bans and restrictions on content by LGBTQ+ creators, including content from LGBTQ+ teenagers. This only escalated as time went on, with recent restrictions on searches damaging the reach of these creators even further. Meta categorizing LGBTQ hashtags as sensitive content is an alarming example of censorship that should concern everyone, Leanna Garfield, social media safety program manager at GLAAD, told Lorenz. For many LGBTQ people, especially youth, platforms like Instagram are crucial for self-discovery, community building, and accessing supportive information. By limiting access to LGBTQ content, Instagram may be inadvertently contributing to the isolation and marginalization of LGBTQ users.Restrictions on content visible to minors has been a major talking point of Republican legislators for years, with the infamous Kids Online Safety Act serving as a catalyst for tightened policies by social media giants. Many companies are considering or have already implemented new restrictions on content seen by youth, with countries like Australia further enforcing these policies through bans for youth social media usage entirely.Currently, the United States is projected to ban TikTok by the end of this month due to claims of foreign interference from the China-based app. The Supreme Court will hear arguments concerning the ban on Friday, with their ruling having the potential to overturn the ban entirely, keeping the app on the marketplace in the country. If it is banned, millions of LGBTQ+ content creators and users will be without community connections or the ability to spread vital news.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMHere's why puppy play is great if you're new to kinkYouve probably heard about it from the growing number of gay men (and women) getting into it. Puppy play is the newish kid on the kinky block. But before you go out and buy a collar, you need to know some basic information.Puppy play is one of countless different "scenes" in the world of kink. Scenes usually involve a certain power dynamica dominant role and a submissive role. Some scenes, like "slave and master," have extreme power differences between roles. Some slaves hand over all aspects of their lives to their "masters," including their finances and living space. In my opinion, pup play falls on the opposite end of the spectrum than "slave and master," and I believe this is part of its growing appeal. The power dynamic is very relaxed. In fact, some have argued that there is no power difference at all. You treat pups as you treat our canine counterparts, with love and affection. (No, actual canines are not involved.) I'm a pup. When I meet a "handler"someone who prefers the dominant side of the sceneI bark, wag my tail, and (if he'll let me) bury my face in his crotch. This is me in my "pup" headspace. When a guy scratches my head and says, good boy, hes in his handler headspace. If you''re interested in exploring kink and not sure where to start, here's why this sub culture may be a great way to begin your journey.1. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but the dog is still standing.I know curious people who use pup play as a way to learn more about kink and BDSM. Curiosity is a natural part of the pup headspacewhat actual dog doesn't want to sniff everything new all the time?Remember: kink and BDSM are not synonymous, though many people use them interchangeably. Kink a broad term for any sex practice outside vanilla, in which certain furnishings (toys, paddles, rope) and certain wear (harnesses, gas masks) are utilized sexually. BDSM is an acronym for bondage, domination, sadism, and masochism. Many kinksters (kinky people) enjoy BDSM, but not all of them. For instance, someone might exclusively be into fisting, and that is not part of the BDSM acronym.2. The pup headspace is extremely liberating. Most people live stressful lives. I balance a schedule, navigate traffic, try to save money, and go to the gym five or six times a week. My pup headspace is a chance to break from all that.I didnt start as a pup. I stumbled into it from much more intense BDSM play. So I can say from experience that this liberating, therapeutic aspect is not exclusive to the puppy scene. Many fetishes and areas of kink, including and especially BDSM, allow you to separate temporarily from everyday life and release pent-up emotions. The result is similar to what some people get from yoga or running. I feel de-stressed and cleansed after a hard session.3. Sex is not a requirement. If you have any sexual hangups, no worries. Although puppy play is implicitly a sexual fetish, it does not explicitly require penetrative sex (nor, for that matter, does any kink scene). It does require a degree of performance, but if you have an adventurous sex drive and can get past the initial silliness of acting like a dog, youre all set.3. However... The. Sex. Is. Amazing.Im a beta pup, which means Im sexually submissive (a dominant would be an alpha pup). For me, the pup headspace lends itself to great sex because the puppy headspace is automatically submissive to handlers. Note: someone can be an obedient and submissive pup to his or her handler and still be dominant in bed. The headspace is submissive, but that doesnt require you to be a bottom.Since I am a submissive bottom, the headspace adds a nice layer to sex. Its one thing to be pounded by a great top. Its another thing to be pounded by a great top who, after playing fetch and wrestling on the floor, grabs your collar and says good boy as he bends you over, doggy-style. 5. Pups are a tight-knit community. The pup movement is newer, especially among fetishes that have been around for generations. Even so, pups and handlers are very proactive at creating a close community. We also have the luxury of social media, which leathermen in the 1970s didnt have. I know pups and handlers across the United States and feel confident that if I needed a place to stay in any city, someone local would lend a paw. We look out for each other.6. The gear is really coolbut not necessary.Puppy play has a vast array of gear that goes with it. I have a tail (a butt plug with a curved, canine-like tail attachment) that I shake and wag and look adorable with. I also have a neoprene puppy hood with floppy dog ears that covers my mouth and resembles a dog snout.Gear like this is fun to wear. Its also pretty expensive. My puppy tail from SquarePeg cost $60. My hood cost $109 from Mr. S Leather in San Franciscolong considered the best leather and fetish supplier in the country. Top-of-the-line leather pup hoods can cost upwards of $300.Since pups tend to spend time on all fours, many wear knee pads. On top of that, many enjoy wearing leather harnesses, especially to bars, parties, and social events. Leather is a fetish all on its own, and leather harnesses can be extremely expensive, especially if you get them custom-fitted (recommended). Thankfully, you dont need any of this stuff. All you need is the mentality. 7. Getting collared is surprisingly romantic. When my boyfriend at the time decided to collar me, we went to Home Depot. I measured different chains around my neck and asked a (very confused) sales associate to cut them. Then we went to PetsMart and bought locks and tags. Ill never forget sitting in the car in the parking lot when he locked the collar around my neck. It was arousing, sure, but also incredibly sweet. 8. The relaxed power dynamic can make pup play seem less threatening than other scenes.I have friends who dove into scenes like slave and master without knowing what they were getting into. There's nothing wrong with doing so, but you risk getting hurt or having experiences that scare you away from further exploration. Kink is filled with extremes and people who push them. And while extreme bondage, mummification, intense pain, breath play, fisting, and other practices look awesome in porn (and are awesome when done correctly and safely), I believe they require some working up to. Start with the basics. That's what makes puppy play so approachableits not an extreme. Its a playful scene and one that requires the least amount of practice: all you have to do is bark. WWW.PRIDE.COMExploring the LGBTQ+ enchantment of French PolynesiaCaptivated by French PolynesiaI often get asked, Wheres a place youd want to return? And since visiting in May this year, the answer has been clear: French Polynesia. Theres something undeniably special about this collection of islands that captures your heart and never quite lets go.Commonly referred to as The Islands of Tahiti or Tahiti Et Ses Iles in French, French Polynesia is a collection of 118 islands scattered across a vast stretch of the South Pacific. Its one of the last corners of the earth to be inhabited by humans, and I found myself fascinated by its history diving into its unique journey of overwater migrations from Southeast Asia that led to a culture flourishing long before the rest of the world knew it existed. Today, the islands are an overseas collectivity of France, home to about 276,000 people, with most of the population concentrated in Tahiti, the largest and most well-known of the islands. Rich in culture, natural beauty, and unique experiences, French Polynesia is truly a place worth exploring. Is French Polynesia heaven on Earth? While everyones idea of paradise may differ, Id argue that a trip to French Polynesia is about as close as you can get to heaven on Earth. And please, dont quote me on this, but Im almost certain Belinda Carlisle had these islands in mind when she recorded her 1987 hit, Heaven Is a Place on Earth. By the end of my trip, it had become my personal soundtrack. Waking up each day to the sights and sounds of paradise, I couldnt help but hum along as the song played in my head.A paradise loved by A-listers, inclusive to everyoneIts no surprise that French Polynesia draws people from all walks of life, including the worlds biggest celebrities. During a family vacation, Kim Kardashian famously lost a diamond earring in Bora Boras crystal-clear waters, only to have it rescued by her sister Kylie Jenner, while Pierce Brosnan and Eddie Murphy have also been seen enjoying the islands stunning beauty on more than one occasion. Perhaps the most iconic Hollywood connection is bisexual icon, Marlon Brando, who purchased the private atoll (a ring-shaped island) of Tetiaroa in the 1960s and turned it into his personal sanctuary. Today, Tetiaroa is home to The Brando, a luxury eco-resort that has welcomed the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay-Z and Beyonc, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Rebel Wilson. Despite its allure for A-listers, French Polynesia remains incredibly warm and welcoming to all travelers, including LGBTQ+ visitors. The cultures openness and the sense of community make it a safe, inviting destination one that leaves everyone feeling embraced and celebrated.A taste of island lifeFrench Polynesia is as much about its rich culture as its breathtaking beauty. Like many aspects of contemporary Polynesian life, the cuisine reflects a melding of diverse influences that have shaped the islands. Saltwater people at heart, Polynesians are passionate fishers and the culinary traditions here center largely on the oceans bounties. And for vegans? Surprisingly, despite the islands' focus on seafood, I found some delightful plant-based options. Fresh, vibrant fruit was always within reach, and to my pleasant surprise, there was also a clear appreciation for tofu, adding a welcome touch of versatility to vegan offerings at the hotels and restaurants I visited.Island hopping 101When planning your trip, remember that French Polynesia is made up of five distinct archipelagos (a group of islands) spread across an area roughly the size of Europe. For my first visit, I explored three islands, spending three to four days on each: Tahiti, Rangiroa, and Taha'a. Though my trip sometimes felt like Lady Gagas iconic quote, plane, next place, no sleep, I wouldnt have had it any other way. This guide will help you decide which islands to explore or perhaps inspire you to follow in my footsteps on an equally unforgettable journey.Getting thereBefore diving into all that French Polynesia has to offer, you might be wondering where exactly is it, and how do you get there? The Islands of Tahiti are in the heart of the South Pacific; reaching them is easier than you might think. Hawaiian Airlines offers direct flights from Honolulu to Faa International Airport (PPT) in Papeete, Tahitis bustling capital.Air Tahiti Nui provides direct flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco, with an average flight time of about eight hours, and also connects French Polynesia to the rest of the world with routes to Paris, Auckland, and Tokyo. Tahiti is made up of two parts: Tahiti Nui (nui meaning great) and Tahiti Iti (iti meaning small), which are linked together by the isthmus of Taravao. While Tahiti Nui is the larger, more developed side, Tahiti Iti is a smaller, volcanic peninsula that remains mountainous, unspoiled, and well worth exploring. With a population of around 190,000, Tahiti boasts a welcoming community, beautiful black-and-white sand beaches, and a rich cultural heritage. Its also where the word tattoo originatesthe Tahitian tatau is a rite of passage for many, a mark of beauty ceremoniously applied often during adolescence. Free of poisonous insects or snakes, Tahiti is as idyllic as it sounds. Its economy thrives on tourism, pearl farming, fishing, and agriculture, and with warm temperatures year-round between 77-86F (25-30C), Tahiti offers a true paradise, no matter when you visit.Where to stay in TahitiLe Tahiti by Pearl Resorts offers an idyllic stay just ten minutes from downtown Papeete, with a prime spot facing Lafayette's black volcanic sand beach and stunning views of Matavai Bay. Some rooms feature jacuzzi tubs perfect for melting away any stresses and getting you into island mode. The property is spacious, giving it a peaceful vibe even when at full capacity, and the crowd only really gathers for breakfast, where a delicious buffet is served, or at the Thursday evening Marquesan dinner and show by the group Kaputu Nuia highlight of my stay. The resorts oceanfront pool offers stunning views, making it hard to choose between lounging poolside or heading straight to the nearby black sand beach. The hotel also provides a daily shuttle to and from Papeete, making it easy to explore the capital. What to see and do in Tahiti personal highlightFor an unforgettable journey, book a full-day expedition with Tahiti Surfari. Their 8+ hour Te Pari Adventure Tour begins with a convenient hotel pickup. With all the snorkeling equipment provided, you'll be ready to dive into crystal-clear waters (although I suggest you bring hiking shoes and water shoes for the various terrains). You'll snorkel, leap from cliff tops, and explore the stunning Fenua Aiherethe remote, untouched side of the island only accessible by boat. After a breezy boat ride, you'll arrive at Te Pari. Here, you can refresh in the Queen's Pool, shower under cascading waterfalls, and head to Faaroa Bay for even more breathtaking scenery. Along the way, the friendly and knowledgeable guides share valuable survival techniques should you need to know if you ever find yourself stranded on a deserted islanda question vegans get asked quite oftenso I paid particularly close attention when the tour guide demonstrated how to crack open a coconut. Back across the famous Teahupoo lagoon, known for its world-class surf break featured in the recent Olympics, you'll experience the awe-inspiring sight of Teahupoo up closea personal highlight of the tour. If you need a quick break from all the shopping, Maeva Caf, located upstairs in the market, serves great options for a quick respite. On the islands, greeting guests with a lei (flower necklace) is more than just a warm welcomeit symbolizes respect, connection, and the island's natural beauty. Luxury resorts often extend this gesture, adding a distinct touch of hospitality. Upon check-in, I hung mine up, and the sweet aroma of Tahitian Gardenia lingered in my room for days. If you're curious about the cultural meaning behind these adornments, why not learn how to make your own? Many hotels can arrange a crafting session with a local artist. Rehia Itcher, a talented local, taught me how to craft a floral crown in a plucked-out-of-a-postcard shaded spot in the hotel's garden. I also learned a few traditions, like how wearing a flower on the left side of your head means your heart is taken while wearing it on the right suggests you're available.Where to eat and drinkDive into the vibrant nightlife of Papeete with a visit to Malabar. This local favorite celebrates diversity and offers a welcoming space for all, including the LGBTQ+ community and our allies. This hotspot is open Thursday through Saturday, with an atmosphere that invites mingling and fun. From karaoke to live bands and DJs, there's always something happening to keep the vibe lively and entertaining. For a taste of French cuisine with a Tahitian twist, head over to Le Grillardin. This cozy spot boasts charming artwork, imaginative dishes, and generous servings that satisfy both appetite and aesthetics. Their extensive wine list and delicious cocktails are a perfect accompaniment to a laid-back evening, and the warm atmosphere makes it ideal for dinner any night except Sundays when they're closed.Taitea Brasserie is another excellent option at the Hilton Hotel. Known for its mouthwatering menu, it's a nice spot to indulge in local flavors while enjoying stunning views.Next island Rangiroa (rahng-ee-ROH-ah)Rangiroa is a lesser-known gem of The Islands of Tahiti a scenic one-hour flight from Tahiti or Bora Bora lands you at Rangiroa Airport (RGI), where breathtaking views await. As the largest atoll in the Tuamotus, a sprawling archipelago in the northeastern region of French Polynesia, Rangiroa captivates with its natural beauty and immense lagoon. Its lagoon is so large it's known as The Endless Lagoon since it offers an incredible marine-rich environment, perfect for snorkelers and divers alike. The crystal-clear waters are filled with vibrant coral reefs (be careful not to touch or stand on them), colorful fish, dolphins, and even gentle species of sharks that pose no threat as long as they're respected in their natural habitat. In the local language, Rangiroa means vast sky, a fitting name for a place that embodies the endless beauty of both its ocean and horizon.Where to stay in RangiroaHotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa is the epitome of barefoot luxury, featuring 58 stunning bungalows set along Rangiroas coral reef atoll amidst lush gardens and coconut groves. Guests can choose between beach bungalows, overwater bungalowsa concept born in French Polynesiaor private villas, each offering an unforgettable experience. I experienced one of their villas, complete with a private pool, outdoor bath, shower, and a Fare Pot'e (covered terrace) for ultimate relaxation. White coral walls surrounded it for the ultimate privacy. The resort's infinity pool is a highlight, and there's nothing quite like sipping a tropical cocktail at the overwater Miki Miki Bar as the sun sets. Kia Ora also hosts traditional Polynesian shows, a testament to the resort's deep respect and commitment to the local Rangiroan culture. For those with a spirit of adventure, Kia Ora is the perfect choice. The resort offers electric scooters and bikes for guests to explore the islands 6-mile stretch, plus shuttles to Tiputa Pass for a chance to see dolphins playing at sunset. Its close proximity to the natural Aquarium, a snorkelers paradise, makes this resort an ideal base for exploration. What to see and do in RangiroaRangiroa offers a range of unforgettable water activities, but the full-day lagoon tour through Kaimana Excursions should be at the top of your list. After a scenic 50-minute boat ride from the main island, youll arrive at Avatoru, a nearby atoll, then head to the Blue Lagoon and Reef Islanda private island where lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks are included. Multiple opportunities to snorkel throughout the day reveal vibrant marine life, each spot offering something unique, making every dive a thrilling underwater adventure. A personal highlight was snorkeling alongside blacktip reef sharksFrench Polynesia's most prevalent shark species. Small and easily recognized by the black tips on their fins, these sharks are docile as long as they are respected from a distance. Though they may seem to come too close for comfort, they generally pose no threat, making the experience exhilarating rather than frightening. Swimming with them was not one of the things on my vision board, but having done so, I now understand why it's a bucket-list item for many. Another unforgettable experience was snorkeling at the natural Aquarium, teeming with more fish than I ever imagined. After the tour, you'll return to Avatoru, enjoying the most stunning shades of blue along the way.For those looking for a more relaxed experience, spend a day or two on Rangiroas gorgeous pink sand beaches, soaking up the sun and the beauty around you while cooling off in the crystal-clear waterpure paradise!Where to eat and drink in RangiroaFor a truly unique culinary experience, head to Motu Fara a 4.5-acre private island just a short boat ride away. Exploring a motu (a small islet within the lagoon of a larger island) is an experience that should be at the top of any French Polynesia itinerary. The island boasts two luxurious villas with private pools, accommodating up to 14 guests for those looking to stay overnight. But even if you aren't lodging here, it's a must-visit for lunch or dinner. The owner, Miel, and her warm staff create a welcoming atmosphere, making every guest feel like VIPs. Their signature cocktails, especially the Tava (a twist on the classic Mai Tai), are not to be missed. Dinner features freshly caught fish and vanilla straight from their garden, with vegan options available, too. After your meal, enjoy stargazing on the deck, where you might even spot some sharks! For another unforgettable dining experience, visit Les Relais de Josphine, a family-run guesthouse near Tiputa Pass. This charming spot offers cozy bungalows for those wanting to stay overnight and a Polynesian-inspired menu featuring local fish, with adaptations available for dietary needs. Lunch includes quiches, bagels, and more, served on their terrace, where you can watch the world go byno reservation needed. But for dinner, be sure to book at least 24 hours in advance.Next stop: Tahaa (tah-HAH-ah)Next on the journey is Tahaa, aptly referred to as Vanilla Island. Although Tahaa doesn't have an airport, it remains a popular destination for those who seek hidden gems. Most visitors fly from Papeete to Raiateathe second largest of the Society Islands after Tahiti. From there, a scenic boat ride will take you to Tahaa or one of its nearby motu. With a population of just over 5,000, Tahaas intimate charm is enriched by its fertile land, which produces some of the world's finest vanillaan aroma that fills the air and adds an olfactory experience to your visit. Tahitian pearls are also farmed here, making Tahaa a treasure trove for nature lovers and those intrigued by the islands cultural heritage. Surrounded by idyllic motu with pristine white sandy beaches, Tahaa is an enchanting destination that truly feels like a well-kept secret of the South Pacific.Where to stay in Taha'aLe Tahaa by Pearl Resorts is a quintessential escape into paradise. Arrive at Raiatea Airport, then enjoy a quick 30-minute water taxi ride that will whisk you to Motu Tautau, a private islet set between the lush shores of Tahaa and the striking silhouette of Bora Bora. The resort features 50 overwater bungalows and ten beachfront suites, each designed to embrace Polynesian charm while delivering modern luxury. Thoughtful touches like ponchos for rare and spontaneous rain showers, loofahs, reusable water bottles, and more add to the sense of comfort. Staying in an overwater bungalow here was an experience I'd saved for the last leg of my trip, and it was worth it there's simply nothing quite like waking up to the sound of waves beneath you and being steps away from a morning dip. Le Tahaa was the first Relais & Chteaux member in the Islands of Tahiti, and it lives up to this legacy with personalized service, spacious rooms, and warm, friendly staff who make every guest feel at home. Paradise reaches new heights as you snorkel the nearby coral garden, witnessing vivid blue and purple coral and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. In addition to snorkeling, the resort provides complimentary activities like kayaking and standup paddleboarding, ensuring that your days are filled with adventure. Ultimately, if you're truly looking to get away from it allbut still need a fast Wi-Fi connection Le Taha'a is exactly where you want to be.What to see and do in Taha'aSince Le Tahaa is situated on a private motu, its thoughtfully curated amenities make it almost too tempting to leave. Kayaks, snorkeling equipment, outrigger canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are available to explore Taha'a's clear, pristine lagoonan exhilarating mix of fun and exercise! For those looking to go beyond the resort, I highly recommend Poerani Tours. Guests can easily catch a complimentary shuttle boat to the main island of Tahaa (available until 5:00 pm). Poerani Tours offers a range of experiences, including visits to the Iaorana Pearl Farm, local vanilla plantations, the Domaine Pari Pari Rhum Distillery, and ATV adventures. Teva and Linda, the owners, add a personal touch, sitting down with their guests for an incredible home-cooked Polynesian meal. This warm hospitality makes their tours feel less like a typical tourist excursion and more like a gathering of friends, and their lunch was indeed one of the best meals of my trip.Where to eat and drink in Taha'aAlong with indulging in Linda and Tevas incredible home-cooked meal during one of the many Poerani Tours offer, the culinary delights at Le Tahaa are also a must. Le Hawaiki Nui, the resort's main restaurant, is perched high on the treetops, offering stunning views of Taha'a lagoon and the lush gardens below. This serene spot is perfect for breakfast, where you can savor freshly squeezed juices, tropical fruits, and a mix of French pastries alongside both hot and cold buffet options. Dinner at Le Hawaiki Nui is equally impressive, especially their la carte menu, which features an array of both local and international dishes that cater to all dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. Every Tuesday, the restaurant hosts a vibrant Polynesian buffet paired with a live show a wonderful way to experience the rich culture of Taha'a while enjoying a delicious meal.Conclude your island-hopping adventure at Hilton Hotel TahitiAs you return to Tahiti to catch your flight home, why not switch up the scenery and end your island-hopping adventure at the Hilton Hotel Tahiti? WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMike Johnson sneaks trans bathroom ban at U.S. Capitol into congressional rulesThe Houses new rules package doesnt include a measure limiting transgender peoples restroom usage at the Capitol, as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) had pushed for late last year and said she was promised would be included. Instead, the rule was slipped into the January 3 edition of the Congressional Record, Advocate reports. The policy, mentioned on page 26 of the dense, 87-page document, says that access to all gendered facilities at the Capitol complex will be based on biological sex. It says that the policy will be enforced by the sergeant-at-arms. The Congressional Record doesnt explain how biological sex will be defined. Related Mike Johnson may use anti-trans measures to hold onto his job as House Speaker Johnson could use anti-trans measures to placate far-right opponents who want to replace him. The inclusion of the policy in the Congressional Record without a vote from the House means that it was enacted with Speaker Mike Johnsons (R-LA) own authority governing Capitol facilities, not the Houses power to pass its own rules. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The Congressional Record says that members of Congress have access to a private restroom in their offices and that some restrooms are designated unisex at the Capitol complex. Transgender and nonbinary people who visit or work at the Capitol might still have trouble accessing facilities.Shortly after the 2024 elections and after it became clear that Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) would be the first out trans member of Congress, Rep. Mace introduced a resolution to ban trans people from using the facilities associated with their genders at the Capitol complex. Trans people have been working at the Capitol and visiting it for decades without incident and McBride has a private restroom in her office, so Maces rule would mainly have the effect of making it harder for trans staffers to work at the Capitol and for trans people to visit the Capitol and participate in democracy.Johnson announced in Novemberthat restroom usage would be determined by biological sex, but he didnt provide any more details about his policy. Mace said in November that Johnson told her that her anti-trans language would be included in the rules resolution, which passed the House last week without any language about restroom usage.I talked to him multiple times yesterday, but he assured me it would be in the House rules package, she told theHuffPostat the time.LGBTQ+ advocates denounced the rule. This cruel and discriminatory policy has nothing to do with helping the American people or addressing their priorities; its all about hurting people, HRCs Kelley Robinson said. It targets not just Congresswoman McBride, but all trans and nonbinary people who work and visit the Capitol public servants who have been working in the Capitol for years but are now the subject of cynical political games. Speaker Johnson has proven yet again that the Republican majority is more focused on culture wars than on the needs of the country.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMDefense Department settles lawsuit with gay veterans & delivers long-overdue justiceThe U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by LGBTQ+ veterans who were discharged from the military because of rules like Dont Ask, Dont Tell that barred them from serving.Under the terms of the settlement, which must be approved by a federal judge, the DOD has agreed to streamline the process by which gay, lesbian, and bisexual veterans who received an honorable discharge can have new paperwork issued that makes no reference to their sexual orientation as the reason for their discharge, CBS News reported. The department has also agreed to streamline the process by which veterans who received a dishonorable discharge because of their sexuality can have their discharge reviewed and upgraded to honorable. Related Gay & bi veterans score a win in court as judge rejects DODs attempt to dismiss case Thousands of veterans are having a hard time clearing their names after they were discharged for being gay. This proposed settlement delivers long-overdue justice to LGBTQ+ veterans who served our country with honor but were stripped of the dignity and recognition they rightfully earned due to discriminatory discharge policies, said Elizabeth Kristen, senior staff attorney with Legal Aid at Work, one of the organizations that represented plaintiffs in the suit. It marks a crucial step in addressing this deep-seated injustice and ensuring these veterans receive the acknowledgment and respect they have long been denied. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our newsletter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The civil rights lawsuit was filed in August 2023 by a group of five veterans who were discharged from the military due to their sexuality. Four of the plaintiffs received less-than-honorable discharges, which they argued denied them access to benefits they rightfully earned based on their service and also isolated them from the veteran community, which is typically an important source of social and emotional support.Plaintiffs argued that the inclusion of information that identifies them as homosexual on their discharge forms, which veterans are often asked to produce when applying for jobs, apartments, and loans, is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution.Every time they have to show that document they are essentially outed involuntarily, Jocelyn Larkin, one of the lawyers on the case, told CBS News at the time. While a Pentagon spokesperson told CBS at the time that the DOD had already tried to streamline the process of upgrading discharge paperwork, plaintiffs in the suit argued that the current administrative process for clearing a less-than-honorable discharge is lengthy and burdensome. According to the lawsuit, more than 35,000 veterans were discharged or otherwise separated from the military because of real or perceived homosexuality, homosexual conduct, sexual perversion or any other related reason from 1980 to 2011. But as CBS News notes, the actual number may be significantly higher, and the most recent Pentagon data indicates that only 1,375 veterans have received upgraded discharge paperwork or corrections to their military records. When I was discharged because of my sexual orientation, I felt that my country was telling me that my service was not valuable that I was less than because of who I loved, U.S. Navy veteran Sherrill Farrell, a plaintiff in the case, said following the proposed settlement. Today, I am once again proud to have served my country by standing up for veterans like myself, and ensuring our honor is recognized.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

The rules package passed the House last Friday. Related Mike Johnson may use anti-trans measures to hold onto his job as House Speaker Johnson could use anti-trans measures to placate far-right opponents who want to replace him. The package also says it will be voted on as read. That is, there can be no amendments that could slow down the voting process. No bill number is given in the package, but the description of the bill mimics the bill text: The bill to amend the Education Amendments of 1972 to provide that for purposes of determining compliance with Title IX of such Act in athletics, sex shall be recognized based solely on a persons reproductive biology and genetics at birth. Republicans have promised to protect womens sports, and under President Trumps leadership, we will fulfill this promise. As we kickoff the new Congress,Iam pleased to announce that I willbe reintroducing my landmark legislation to protect womens sports with the support of 56of my colleagues! It will be included in the Majority rules package to be heard within the first 100 days.My pic.twitter.com/Mg6kf879xl Congressman Greg Steube (@RepGregSteube) January 3, 2025The bill seeks to ban any recipient of federal funding who operates, sponsors, or facilitates an athletic program or activity to permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity designed for women or girls. The companion bill in the Senate will also be reintroduced by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). I am welcoming my first granddaughter this spring and wont stop fighting until her rights to fairly compete are protected, Tuberville told Fox News Digital. I hope every one of my colleagues will join me in standing up for our daughters, nieces, and granddaughters by voting for this critical bill. The House passed Steubes version of the bill in April 2023 along party lines. It was never brought to a vote in what was then a Democratic-led Senate. But the Senate and the White House are now controlled by the GOP, so the bill has a better chance of passing.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMWhat to do if you're not sexually compatible with your partner, according to expertsFor queer people, sex isn't just something to do when there's nothing good on TV. It's a reflection of our identity, a way to interact with our culture and community. In a community where the right to even have sex together has taken decades to win, it means that sexual issues hit all the harder. If you've got a partner to keep you warm this cuffing season, congratulations! But what do you do if you and your partner seem to find yourselves consistently at sexual odds with one another? We asked three experts Tori Buckley, a Denver-based licensed professional counselor and LGBTQ+ mental health expert; Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons, award-winning psychologist, sexologist, and associate professor at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health; and Sofie Roos, licensed sexologist, relationship therapist, and author at Passionerad for their advice on how to figure out if you and your partner are sexually incompatible and what, if anything, you can do about it.What does it mean to be "sexually incompatible" with someone?Sexual incompatibility, as Buckley so aptly put it, "Occurs when partners have differing needs, desires, or approaches to sex that feel impossible to reconcile." Dr. Hargons describes it similarly, but adds an element of disconnect and frustration, saying, "Sexual incompatibility occurs when the desire, arousal, and preferences of sexual partners are so out of sync that both are unwilling to find common ground." Buckley also explains that sometimes this incompatibility can stem from the different reasons why we have sex, "Some individuals are aroused by elaborate fantasies theyve built up, while others experience sex as a purely physical activity, requiring little mental involvement. Others may see it as an expression of emotion or a way to play with energy. Some can only have sex once they feel emotionally connected, while others feel connected by having sex. Understanding these differences is a foundational step to dismantling the illusion of incompatibilityRoos includes other examples, situations like when "Ones into vanilla stuff and the other one gets going off more kinky stuff, but it can also be about how often you want to have sex or about what kind of sex that you enjoy (eg. one might love penetration and the other one being more into oral because they find penetration unpleasant)."To help gauge the sexual health of your relationship, Buckley suggests Miss Jayia's Erotic Blueprint, a framework to help you evaluate your sexual experiences. The Erotic Blueprint, Buckley recounts, is broken up into five parts: "Sensual: based in the five senses think ambiance, food play, and a sexy playlist. Energetic: based in sexual tension think teasing, goosebumps from anticipation, or fantasizing at work all day about later that night. Sexual: based in cultural norms think dirty pictures, specific positions, and 'the money shot.' Kinky: based in the taboo, which varies by individual think outdoor sex, fetishes, or power dynamics. Shapeshifter: requiring a mix of all the above to feel fully satisfied."If you're worried you and a partner might be sexually incompatible, this should help give you a sense of direction. It's concise, clear, and measurable. But every relationship, no matter how healthy or horny, has dry spells or miscommunication. How do you gauge how serious it is?How can I tell if we're sexually incompatible or just having bad sex?"Many couples mistake sexual impasses for incompatibility when, in reality, they stem from alack of communication, curiosity, or presence," says Buckley. "'Bad sex' is often rooted in misunderstandings rather than irreconcilable differences. If you and your partner are open to feedback, willing to experiment, non-judgmental, and invested in learning about each others needs, your sexual connection can almost always improve." That's all great news! The bad news is, really being incompatible isn't as simple.Buckley further explains, "True incompatibility is rarer and typically occurs when partners core needs or erotic interests are deeply misaligned and neither partner is willing or able to meet in the middle. For example, one partners most erotic desires might feel triggering or off-putting to the other. In such cases, mutual respect and non-judgment are crucial to avoid shame."Roos puts it simply, "If youre incompatible, youre just not on the same page." So even if you're an open communicator with a curious attitude, sexual incompatibility is harder to deal with than simply having bad sex. "This means that if you're incompatible, youre having different sexual needs to get satisfied, and this can be difficult to address since you often need to compromise and end up with none of you truly feeling fulfilled."Hargons has an activity for you and your partner to do to help discern if you're compatible or not. In her upcoming book Good Sex: Stories, Science, and Strategies for Sexual Liberation, Hargons describes the "Yes, No, Maybe So" list. You might also be familiar with it as a "Want, Will, Won't" list. It's incredibly helpful, and very easy to do. All you need is a piece of paper and a writing utensil, or you can even just use the notes app on your phone."Create three columns or lists," instructs Hargons. From there, "In the Yes column/list, write all the sexual activities you have tried and like or things you really want to try. In the No column/list, write all the sexual activities you have tried and do not like or things you never want to try. In the Maybe So column/list, write all the sexual activities you have tried and may like or things you may want to try depending on the context. Then, share this list with the partner you are trying to see if you're compatible with. Consider how much you have in common vs. how much differs. You may have many things in common that you desire, but you just aren't acting on them yet or need to develop the skills."Now that you know what you're really dealing with, you can start beginning to address it. And keep your Yes/No/Maybe So lists on hand! What can I do sexually to try and fix it?Because Hargons's advice was the most actionable for figuring out if you are incompatible, it's also the most straightforward for trying to fix it if you are. She advises you and your partner to, "Choose at least one thing that you both share on your 'yes' lists and make sure you prioritize doing that thing with each other. Communicate about how you like it, what good sex seasonings (like passion, kinkiness, love, or sensuality) you want to add to the specific sex acts to make it more fulfilling. Practice with each other."Roos brings up the idea of trying out a sex game! "A sex game is likely to challenge your fixed ideas about sex, and both are likely to discover new things they like that you can meet in," she says. "For example, one whos into rough sex might find really enjoyable ways of having calm sex, while one whos experiencing a lower sex drive than their partner can find a spark through a door that opens via the sex game that makes them curious to keep discovering intimacy and sex together."She adds that sex games might be especially impactful because they take what we generally consider to be a negative problem to be dealt with, and turns it into something to work through together creatively and playfully. "When talking about sexual incompatibility, we tend to stare at the things that differs instead of looking for what we have in common, and by changing that mindset, were likely to find new things that gets us closer, even though we still are as incompatible in the things we didnt match in before. In other words: it can be difficult to solve the differences, and it is often much easier to create something new instead and let the differences be there, because theres so many ways to have sex so you can always find things you both like and that gets you going!"If games aren't your thing, Buckley suggests you should, "Start with open, judgment-free conversations about preferences, fantasies, and boundaries. Websites like Quivre and We Should Try It provide structured ways to explore sexual curiosities with your partner." These are all excellent tools, but addressing something on this scale requires a holistic approach. What can I do outside of the bedroom to try and fix it?If you want your sexual relationship to improve, you're going to have to put the "cum" in "communication." Roos says to, "Communicate how you feel in a respectful way as well as saying what youd like to change and how you can work on that together is the best start. Let your partner know that you dont feel youre on the same page and ask for their view of the situation as well." Conversations like this can be emotional and complex on all sides, so Roos emphasizes, "Its extremely important to maintain a respectful tone, because otherwise, the risk increases of you getting into a defense mode kind of discussion where you start blaming each other instead of working as a team. When trying to find each other and build that compatibility, its extremely important to be open minded, to hear your partner out and work together with the goal of getting more chemistry in bed, this without disregarding your own boundaries."Do you still have your Yes/No/Maybe So list? Good, it's still an important tool here! "Be curious about what's on your 'no' or 'maybe so' lists, without judgment," says Hargons. "Ask what needs that sexual activity may fulfill for them, and then see if there are other options that may fulfill that need if you are not able or willing to add it to your Yes list. Remember, erotic equity doesn't mean doing exactly what your partner wants, and them doing the same for you. That's more like erotic entitlement. But, you can be creative about the approach you take to addressing their sexual desires."If you're in a monogamous relationship struggling with sexual incompatibility, this might be an opportunity to explore non-monogamy, says Buckley. For some, exploring ethical non-monogamy (ENM) can provide an additional layer of connection and fulfillment. Opening a relationship ethically requires honest communication, clear boundaries, and ongoing reflection to ensure it strengthens rather than jeopardizes the bond between existing partners."But ENM isn't one size fits all, nor is it one time solution, it's an ongoing practice that takes work like any other part of your relationship. Buckley warns, "When used to avoid addressing existing challenges, ENM is more likely to cast a spotlight on that issue and cause the original relationship to crumble. Healthy ENM requires care and attention to all relationships and people involved. That said, it can also offer opportunities to explore new aspects of your sexual identity with varied partners and often reinvigorates existing sexual connections."If you've never struggled with sexual incompatibility, it's easy to skeptical, or even judgmental. But it can happen to you, too, even if it's something you and your partner had never dealt with before. What can I do if this is a new problem in a not-so-new relationship?Buckley describes the factors that might lead to sexual incompatibility arising as a new problem in a well established relationship. It can stem from a myriad of places, like, "When a previously fulfilling sexual connection shifts, external factors such as stress, grief, medication changes (e.g. hormones, antidepressants, blood pressure meds, etc), or body image challenges often play a role. Identifying and addressing any underlying factors can foster empathy and patience, as well as help you seek the right support."Don't lose hope. Everything has an ebb and a flow, including relationships. Buckley also reassures us, "Relationships naturally evolve, and its normal for sexual dynamics to do the same. Rekindling intimacy often involves intentional efforts to reconnect, such as prioritizing date nights, flirting, or trying new activities together in and out of the bedroom. Keeping your relationship on a low simmer, rather than letting it cool entirely, makes it easier to reignite passion."Hargons says that this can be an opportunity for partners to take a moment and reflect; to look inward and try to see the root cause. She says to, "Take inventory on when things changed by relationship mapping. Talk about the key moments you noticed a difference, and then consider what was happening in your worlds around that time. Maybe you were grieving a loss or your bodies were changing. Maybe the things you used to like don't do it for you like they used to. It's okay to change and evolve, and sometimes we hold on to this past version of our partner instead of evolving with each other."Roos brings up an especially good point, adding that you should "Ask yourself if the problem is new, or if you just have ignored it or not paid it any attention before. Many times, we tend to overlook sexual incompatibility if being newly in love, and when reality catches up which can take months or years for some, so can still happen in a not new relationship you see the situation more clearly and realize that 'Hey, were really not having same needs in bed.'"So what do you do if you've taken stock, you've made the lists, you've played the games, and it's still not working? How do you know if this is a problem worth ending a relationship over? How do I decide if this is big enough for us to break up?It's a big question. Ultimately, you're the only person who can make that decision for yourself, but our experts shared some of their most insightful advice yet, to help. Ultimately, this all comes down to your relationship with yourself, with your partner, and to sex as a part of your life. Before ending a relationship over sexual incompatibility, Hargons recommends seeking professional help. "If you try some of these strategies and they don't work, the relationship may benefit from sex or relationship therapy," she says. "After giving it some time to work on it more intensely, it may be that the issue is more than you both want to handle. That's okay, not all relationships are meant to last. But, if the relationship is worth the work, there's incentive to at least try."Roos says that, "If sex is a really big part of your life and that the incompatibility makes you feel unsatisfied or that one of the major points of being in a romantic relationship for you is the sex and it simply isnt working, then its worth considering leaving." However, she reminds us that in if you're in a long term relationship, that often means that the payoff for all your hard work will be long term too. And yet, sometimes it's better to know when to say good-bye.Roos says, "You need to feel that its worth the hassle of working for your pleasure with this partner though, because in some situations, you simply dont feel its worth it and you rather go on finding someone where it just says click right away, so knowing when its time to leave is highly individual, but as a starter, ask yourself how much work youre ready to put into solving this for making the relationship work, and when you get there, see the result and make a decision based on that."Buckley emphasizes that sex is an important part of life and identity, and that it isn't trivial to end a relationship over sexual incompatibility. She says that, "Persistent resentment, shame, or disconnection stemming from unresolved sexual incompatibility may indicate a deeper misalignment. Relationships thrive on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to growth. If these foundations are intact, sexual challenges can often be navigated with effort and support. If not, it may be time to consider therapy or parting ways."Ultimately, Buckley reminds us that queer people always have to fight harder for our relationships to thrive, but that that fighting is well worth it. "Sex is an ever-evolving aspect of relationships that thrives on communication, curiosity, and compassion," she says. "For LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, addressing these issues often involves unpacking societal and internalized oppression, making professional support especially valuable. No one should feel stuck or ashamed pleasure and connection are worth pursuing!"Experts cited:Tori Buckley, a Denver-based licensed professional counselor and LGBTQ+ mental health; Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons, award-winning psychologist, sexologist, and associate professor at the Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health; Sofie Roos, licensed sexologist, relationship therapist, and author at Passionerad0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COM10 awkward moments that can happen while you're cruisingWell this is awkward.Gay cruising has been one of the most popular pastimes in gay culture. Apps like Sniffies make cruising a little easier these days, but a good stroll through the woods ending in sex is a fantasy we all want to experience at least once.As hot as cruising can be, there are also times it can be less than pleasant or even a little dangerous. Here are 10 awkward moments you may encounter if you're ever out on the cruise.1. Hitting on someone who ISN'T cruisingBelieve it or not, there are people out there who are simply out to enjoy nature. Even if you're in a spot that's known for gay cruising within the community, that doesn't mean everybody is aware of what goes on there. Approach cautiously and be sure you know how to read the room to avoid this awkward encounter.2. Reading the signs all wrongYou may know for sure this person is here to do the same thing you're doing. You may have even seen them already get some action and have that as a reason you're interested. They may even strike up a conversation with you, and you may think they're into it -- until they're totally not. This may be even more uncomfortable than mistaking their cruising intentions in the first place, but keep it moving and don't let it get you down.3. Running into someone you knowOf course, this can happen anywhere. But say you run into an ex, or a coworker you'd rather not see having sex, or anything in between. You may not want people in your inner circle to know that cruising is a thing you do. You can choose to acknowledge them or not if you feel weird around them, but just as you would in a club or a grocery store, move to a different section and wait until they go away.4. Getting outedExpanding on the previous point, there's also a chance you don't want people to know you have gay sex at all. There are plenty of straight men going behind their wive's/girlfriend's/whoever's backs just to be there in the first place, which is often half of the appeal for the gay men who go, too. But if you fear someone knowing you, you might also fear being outed, which is a real possibility for the straight men sometimes.5. They want to get REALLY weirdFirst of all, no kink shaming, after all everyone is there to explore some form of fantasy. Whether it's outdoor sex, the risk of getting caught, or to explore in some fetishes, cruising always attracts a certain clientele. You're probably pretty kinky yourself if you're out there in the woods, but sometimes people just ask for some weird things. This can happen in any sexual situation, but there's an added sense of vulnerability to doing something you might not be totally into when you're exposed to the elements.6. Ending up on a hidden cameraThere are a lot of content creators out there these days, and cruising spots are prime location to shoot some footage for OnlyFans, JustforFans, or anything in between. Although nothing can be posted without your consent (be prepared to sign a waiver if you don't have an account for yourself), you may run into any number of creators on your cruising trip who may at least want to record it for their "personal collection." The choice is yours from there.7. Running into someone who's... unpreparedA lot of men who are cruising are trying it for their first time, and it might even be their first time having sex with another man at all. Regardless of their sexual experience, the person on the bottom side of things might not be as prepared as either party would like once things start to get rough and rowdy. Wearing condoms while cruising can at least help make this a little less uncomfortable.8. Being unprepared yourselfOutside of the potential of not being cleaned out yourself, you may also be out of lube, or want condoms and don't have them, or get thirsty and have forgotten your water. Anytime you go cruising, treat it like you're going on a first date with someone you want to have a long relationship with to make sure you're always ready for anything.9. Getting bustedThe idea of potentially getting caught is part of the appeal of cruising for a lot of men. However, be aware that a lot of police officers utilize apps like Sniffies to try to find people who are interacting with minors. If you're caught by law enforcement and not just your average mom walking by, you're likely to get arrested for public sex even if you are both over the age of 18. If you're in one of the states (or countries) that still have criminal offenses against sodomy, you could be in a lot more trouble than it's worth. 10. Being in actual dangerAlthough these last two points have been a little more serious, it's important to be safe out there and to protect yourself at all times. There are a lot of people who attack the LGBTQ+ community on purpose. There are also countless stories about people getting beat up or worse when they're out cruising, so even though it's not as much of a fun thought, I'll just stress it one more time: Be safe out there. Know your surroundings, have protection (think more pepper spray here) and take care of yourself.Happy cruising!0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMLooks like Trump is annoyed that Elon has gone Stage 4 Clinger & the internet can't stop cacklingPresident-elect Donald Trump and billionaire Tesla owner Elon Musk have been having their own little bromance for months, but it looks like there may be trouble in paradise, and the internet cant stop roasting them and keeping their fingers crossed for a breakup. Before he's even had the chance to step foot into the Oval Office, Trump's relationship with Musk may be on the rocks, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who says that the MAGA leader has been talking behind the tech CEOs back. Its almost like when you put one egomaniacal man-child together with another, there isnt enough oxygen left in the room for them both to survive. Trump does complain a bit to people about how Musk is around a lot, Haberman said on Mondays episode of the On with Kara Swisher podcast, The Hill reports.Makes you wonder if all of the memes and jokes spreading across social media saying that Trump is Musks lapdog and quipping that Trump is really Musks vice president are finally getting to the blowhard Republican. It sort of seems like one of those you made your bed, and now you have to lie in it situations. Haberman reported that Musk has been staying at a cottage at Mar-a-Lago, but that may be too close for comfort for Trump. So, he really parked himself in Trumps face, she said on the podcast. But what that looks like, Kara, when Trump becomes president, I dont know. The two mens bromance seemingly began when Musk endorsed Trump and donated $227 million to his campaign fund. Since then, Musk was seen jumping like a fool at one of Trumps rallies, Trump appointed the SpaceX owner to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and the pair were seen dancing like broken animatronics at a Mar-a-Lago New Years Eve party. While their antics have given social media plenty of fodder to clown on them, we cant wait for their friendship to implode so we can gleefully watch the fallout.Scroll through to see the funniest reactions to Trump and Musks bromance imploding before our eyes! WWW.PRIDE.COMMark Zuckerberg shares how Meta will adopt some of X's worst policies in Trump's second termIt may finally be time to nuke all your Meta accounts and join Bluesky. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced sweeping changes to content moderation across the company's platformsFacebook, Instagram, and Threadsthat critics say could create a haven for hate speech and misinformation. The changes include removing fact-checkers, reinstating the promotion of political content, loosening restrictions on topics like gender and immigration, and relocating trust and safety teams from California to TexasIn a video posted Tuesday, Zuckerberg framed the overhaul as a return to Metas roots in free expression. Were going to simplify our content policies and get rid of a bunch of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are just out of touch with mainstream discourse, he said. What started as a movement to be more inclusive has increasingly been used to shut down opinions and shut out people with different ideas, and its gone too far.Zuckerberg also acknowledged that Meta had previously limited the reach of political posts and announced plans to reverse that policy. Civic and political content will again be recommended to users without the interjection of fact-checkersa move critics fear could amplify divisive rhetoric and misinformation. The timing of Zuckerbergs announcement raises eyebrows. He recently visited Mar-a-Lago to meet with President-elect Donald Trump and donated $1 million to Trumps inauguration. In his announcement, Zuckerberg expressed an intention to collaborate with Trump to oppose international regulations on social media companies. For many, this signals an alignment with far-right agendas that could embolden hate speech on Metas platforms.Responding to questions from reporters during a Tuesday press conference, Trump said he thought Zuckerbergs announcement was a result of the former presidents threats. Probably. Yeah. Probably, Trump said. The changes bear a troubling resemblance to Elon Musks overhaul of Twitter, now known as X. Since Musk gutted Xs trust and safety teams and moved operations to Texas, the platform has become a breeding ground for racism, homophobia, white supremacy, transphobia, and rampant misinformation. Musks reliance on a Community Notes system to crowdsource moderation has been widely criticized for its inability to address real-time misinformation and culture war issues, leaving marginalized groups especially vulnerable.Techdirt detailed the flaws in Musks approach, which Meta now appears poised to replicate. Community Notes, while potentially useful in theory, is no replacement for a professional trust and safety program, the outlet reports. According to Techdirt, the system is slow, prone to manipulation by bad actors, and fails to function effectively in fast-moving situations like breaking news. Furthermore, the system relies on cross-ideological consensus, which makes it nearly impossible to address misinformation on polarizing topics like LGBTQ+ rights. For example, during global crises, many of the highest-rated notes on X never make it to public view due to the platforms requirement for bipartisan agreement, leaving harmful content unchecked. A Wired investigation also revealed that Community Notes lacks transparency, is vulnerable to coordinated manipulation, and often exacerbates the spread of disinformation.Fact-checking and hate speech policies protect free speech. Without these necessary guardrails, Meta is giving the green light for people to target LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups with violence, vitriol, and dehumanizing narratives, a GLAAD spokesperson told The Advocate. With these changes, Meta is continuing to normalize anti-LGBTQ hatred for profitat the expense of its users and true freedom of expression.Zuckerbergs comments on allowing different points of view on gender have drawn particular concern from LGBTQ+ advocates, who say the framing provides a cover for anti-trans narratives and dehumanizing rhetoric.Related: Meta blocked teens from seeing LGBTQ+ content on Instagram: reportMetas track record only deepens these fears. Just this week, journalist Taylor Lorenz revealed that Meta had restricted LGBTQ-related hashtags like #gay, #lesbian, #trans, and #nonbinary under its sensitive content policy, preventing teens from accessing these terms for months. Meta reversed the restrictions only after Lorenzs inquiries, but the episode underscores systemic issues with how the company approaches content moderation. It isnt the first time Meta has been accused of failing LGBTQ+ users. In 2024, a GLAAD report highlighted Metas inability to effectively moderate violent anti-trans content, much of which remained live despite clear violations of the companys guidelines. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMA new push for DNA samples could identify more victims of a notorious closeted Republican killerAuthorities in Indianapolis are reaching out to the public in a renewed effort to identify the remains of more victims of notorious serial killer Herbert Baumeister, who has been linked to the deaths of at least two dozen men and boys in the 1980s and 90s.Clues to Baumeisters horrific crimes first came to light in 1992, when a gay man contacted police to claim that an individual who called himself Brian Smart had picked up a friend of his at a local gay bar and killed him. He told cops the same man tried to strangle him with a hose when they had sex. Related Police identify 12th victim buried on estate of closeted Republican murderer A forensic investigative team used bone fragments to help identify a man whos been missing for over 30 years. Three years later, the man saw Baumeister again and shared his license plate number with police. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Authorities approached Baumeister and asked to search his 18-acre property, known as FoxHollow Farm, in Westfield, Indiana, north of Indianapolis. They were rebuffed by Baumeister and his wife.A year later, frightened by her husbands erratic mood swings and increasingly violent behavior, Baumeisters wife filed for divorce and gave the police permission to search the property. She later maintained she and her husband had sex only six times during their marriage and she never saw Baumeister naked. The wealthy landowner made his fortune as founder of Indianas Sav-A-Lot grocery store chain. An initial search of the estate and subsequent discoveries revealed a grisly history of death and dismemberment: over 10,000 bones, many crushed and burned, were uncovered on the sprawling property. Other evidence included handcuffs and shotgun shells.Police believe Baumeister killed and buried his victims after luring them to the property from gay bars in Indianapolis, while his wife and child were away on trips. Evidence of 11 bodies on the estates grounds were found in the initial search, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for Baumeisters arrest. A week later, Baumeister shot and killed himself in a park in Ontario, Canada. He was 49.Over three years, authorities were able to identify eight men using dental records and available DNA technologies. Those efforts stopped when a funding request to continue work on the case was denied, while the identities of at least 17 victims remained a mystery. That decision essentially halted further efforts to identify the victims and placed the cost of a homicide investigation on family members of missing people, current Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellisontold the AP. I cant speak for those investigators, but it was just game over, Jellison said. Then in 2022, the cousin of a man he believed to be another of Baumeisters victims stepped forward, asking authorities if they could establish a forensic link to his relative with the bones kept in storage since work on the case was halted. How do you say no to that? Thats our job as coroners by statute, to identify the deceased, Jellison said.Police took DNA samples from the suspected victims mother and sister. From among a select group of samples from the 10,000 bones in storage, Jellison found a match. Allen Livingston was identified as Baumeisters ninth victim. Other DNA samples from family members collected since have brought the total number of presumed victims identified to 12.Police also suspect that Baumeister may have been the I-70 Strangler, a serial murderer who dumped his naked or partially clothed victims bodies near Interstate 70, a major east-west artery that runs through Indianapolis, during the late 1980s. Though the serial killings remain officially unsolved, in April 1999, police named Baumeister as their prime suspect in the case, noting that bodies stopped appearing on the interstate after Baumeister purchased his estate in 1991. Baumeisters victims ranged in age from 14 to 45.Relatives of men who went missing and were possible victims of Baumeisters crimes in the Indianapolis area are encouraged to contact the Indiana State Police missing persons hotline at 833-466-2653 or the Hamilton County Coroners Office at 317-770-4415.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMWhat the heck is a 'lesbian boyfriend?' The sapphic trend explainedWhile doing press for her most recent film, Nosferatu, Lily-Rose Depp has occasionally made reference to her relationship. This drew particular attention during an interview with MTV in which the interviewer brought up a locket of hair Depp's character gives her husband."I think that's cute, honestly," Depp said. "I have a locket of my boyfriend's hair, kind of like in the movie."@mtvukLily-Rose Depp keeping a locket with her boyfriends hair in is SO cute who else cant WAIT to see Lily and Nicholas Hoult in Nosferatu on New Years Day? #lilyrosedepp #nosferatu #nicholashoult #filmtok #mtvmoviesThe comment gave some fans familiar with the actress's personal life pause she's been dating rapper 070 Shake (Danielle Balbuena) for the past two years. So why is she talking about a boyfriend? The answer is as simple as it could be: "boyfriend" is just the term she uses when referring to 070 Shake, even though the rapper is a woman. And that's all there is to it. Some people may put additional expectations on the term, suggesting a lesbian boyfriend may present more masculine, or handle tasks that are traditionally expected of boyfriends in a heteronormative society, but there isn't actually some defined list of requirements in order to be a lesbian boyfriend. Someone only has to identify as a lesbian and be referred to by their partner as a boyfriend.Coloring outside the lines of the gender binary shouldn't be a new concept to anyone in 2025, but especially members of the LGBTQ+ community. There's a broader awareness of trans and nonbinary identities, and we also understand that cis queer people might present themselves in a way that doesn't follow gender norms or expectations. So the idea that some people also don't use terms that align with their gender identity shouldn't be hard to grasp either especially considering the concept of a lesbian boyfriend isn't some brand new thing that just popped up out of nowhere. (@) But, of course, some people are still determined to try to fit everyone into neat little identity boxes with predetermined labels. As social media lit up with debate over the concept of lesbian boyfriends, one thing that has repeatedly pointed out is that this sort of thing is already perfectly normalized among gay men. Even beyond the LGBTQ+ community, male celebrities of all orientations have been getting broadly referred to as "babygirl" these days. (@) (@) (@) Fortunately, it ultimately doesn't matter whether anyone takes umbrage with the idea of a lesbian boyfriend, or if they decide they just can't wrap their brains around it. The people who want to use the term are going to use it, as they should. (@) (@) (@) (@) (@) (@) (@) Will 2025 be the year of the lesbian boyfriend? Trick question. Every year is the year of the lesbian boyfriend.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views 0 Reviews

NEWSISOUT.COMWhat does Metas rollback on moderation and fact checking mean for the LGBTQ+ community?LGBTQ+ leaders have criticized Meta CEO Mark Zuckerbergs decision to end third-party fact checking and content moderation on Facebook and Instagram posts. In the video released on Tuesday, Zuckerberg said the platform would move to a community notes form of content moderation, similar to Elon Musks X, which Meta claims will be less prone to bias.Zuckerberg stated that legacy media and governments had pushed to censor more social media content and that after the recent election, the country has reached a cultural tipping point to once again prioritizing free speech. We plan to phase in Community Notes in the U.S. first over the next couple of months and will continue to improve it over the course of the year, said an accompanying statement from Meta.As we make the transition, we will get rid of our fact-checking control, stop demoting fact-checked content and, instead of overlaying full-screen interstitial warnings you have to click through before you can even see the post, we will use a much less obtrusive label indicating that there is additional information for those who want to see it.Zuckerberg addressed the 2016 election and concerns raised about the spread of disinformation threatening democracy. We tried in good faith to address those concerns without becoming the arbiters of truth, but the fact-checkers have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than theyve created, especially in the U.S., said Zuckerberg.Zuckerberg also announced the removal of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender, which he said are just out of touch with mainstream discourse.Advocacy organization GLAAD sent out a press release addressing Zuckerbergs announcement and recent changes made to Metas Hateful Conduct Policy. (You can see the logged changes here.)Todays sweeping and extreme policy changes represent a wholesale abandonment of the norms and best practices of content moderation, said the GLAAD release. The new language of Metas Community Standards includes numerous changes that will result in Instagram, Facebook, and Threads becoming unsafe landscapes filled with dangerous hate speech, violence, harassment, and misinformation.GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis also shared her concerns in a statement.Zuckerbergs removal of fact-checking programs and industry-standard hate speech policies makes Metas platforms unsafe places for users and advertisers alike. Without these necessary hate speech and other policies, Meta is giving the green light for people to target LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups with violence, vitriol, and dehumanizing narratives. With these changes, Meta is continuing to normalize anti-LGBTQ hatred for profit at the expense of its users and true freedom of expression. Fact-checking and hate speech policies protect free speech.GLAADs 2023 social media safety index found that Facebook and Instagram failed to protect LGBTQ+ content and users and that was with fact-checking and content moderation still in place. In a press conference today at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, President-elect Donald Trump was asked about Metas changes by a reporter.Do you think Zuckerberg is responding to the threats youve made to him in the past?Trump responded, Probably. Yeah, probably.Zuckerberg and Trump met for dinner at Trumps private club in late November, after the election. The post What does Metas rollback on moderation and fact checking mean for the LGBTQ+ community? appeared first on News Is Out.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

Zuckerberg has been making moves to meet with Donald Trump to discuss policy, and he has committed to donating $1 million to the president-elects inauguration fund. The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing speech, Zuckerberg said, adding that content moderation policies will still be aggressive in regulating drugs, terrorism, and child exploitation. We built a lot of complex systems to moderate content, but the problem with complex systems is they make mistakes. Even if they accidentally censor just 1% of posts, thats millions of people, and weve reached a point where its just too many mistakes and too much censorship. Civil rights leaders are criticizing Zuckerbergs move as enabling far-right ideology. Recently, Meta has been caught censoring content with LGBTQ+ hashtags, restricting it from millions of people, including every minor on the site. When a journalist reached out to them for comment, they said it was a mistake and reversed the policy.GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said of the recent announcement: Zuckerbergs removal of fact-checking programs and industry-standard hate speech policies make Metas platforms unsafe places for users and advertisers alike. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMThe number of companies committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion is growingAs a growing number of U.S. companies roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in the wake of right-wing pressure, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation says that, in fact, more companies are committed to improving LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality in the workplace. On Tuesday, January 7, the educational arm of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) released its 2025 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The annual report, which debuted in 2002, measures U.S. companies policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality and has been a leading force in improving LGBTQ+ employees workplace experience. Related Abandoning LGBTQ+ diversity hurts the bottom line, according to new HRC survey Major brands are dropping their commitments to diversity and HRCs Corporate Equality Index. So HRC is hitting back, with data. As the Associated Press notes, this years CEI came a day after McDonalds announced it would pause its participation in external surveys as part of its own rollback of DEI programs. The fast food giant joins companies like Walmart, Ford, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, and Lowes that have all bowed to conservative pressure to end DEI initiatives. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our newsletter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today At the same time, however, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation reports that the 1,449 companies rated in this years CEI represent a 5 percent increase from last years total. Of those 1,449 businesses, 72 participated in the survey for the first time. Additionally, 765 companies earned a perfect score, a 28 percent increase from 2024.According to the 2025 report, 98 percent of CEI-rated companies explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity in their nondiscrimination policies, 82 percent provide equivalency spousal and partner medical benefits, and 87 percent provide equal health coverage for transgender individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care.Additionally, this years CEI saw a 25 percent increase in the number of companies that provide LGBTQ+ health benefits guides and a 21 percent increase in those that have instituted gender transition guidelines with policies to support transitioning employees. As the AP notes, some companies completed this years survey and were given scores prior to announcing that they would no longer participate in the process. McDonalds for instance, received a 100, while Walmart and Lowes received 90s. HRC has said it will continue to monitor and score these companies. In a statement, HRC President Kelley Robinson said that the CEIs work is about making businesses stronger. At times, progress meets backlash, but companies continue to dedicate the time and resources to reinforcing workplace inclusion, Robinson said. As a result, they are more competitive and more creative while attracting and retaining top talent and widening their consumer base. Our door is open for companies looking to learn more about supporting every single employee so they can bring their best to work. For decades businesses have relied on the CEI as a tool for transparency and leveling the playing field for all workers, making sure LGBTQ+ people and their families can share in fair, respectful and supportive workplaces and benefits, HRC Senior Director of Workplace Equality RaShawn Hawkins, SHRM-CP, said in a statement. As conversations evolve on corporate Americas approach to diversity, equity and inclusion, year-over-year growth in CEI participation is evidence of a business community that largely recognizes the responsibility and value in upholding equity and inclusion. Responding to the 2025 CEI, David Glasgow, executive director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at NYU School of Law, suggested that while some companies have made big public statements about retreating from some aspects of how they were doing DEI the vast majority are still doing it.The only difference is that theyre changing some programs mostly for legal risk mitigation purposes and or doing it more quietly so that they dont attract as much attention and scrutiny, Glasgow said.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

However, but in an interview with W Magazine, she's opened up about also being attracted to women, and revealed that her first kiss was actually with a girl."It was with a girl," Saldaa said when asked about her first kiss. "I must have been 13 or 14. I was that girl who said, 'Let's play house,' I was always telling my friends that. And that's why I wasn't invented to play at people's houses! So I was already kissing a whole bunch of girls by the time I was 13, 14. Girls are such better kissers!"She also was asked about celebrity crushes she had growing up."Oh my god, I'm so shy about this," she said. "I did have a crush on Prince and Annie Lennox, I can't believe I'm saying this! Because there was just something androgynous about them. I love a woman who's masculine and a man who is feminine. I find that to be really sexy."While Saldaa opened up about kissing girls and finding masculine women to be sexy, she stopped short of labeling her sexuality. However, she has previously talked about being open to dating women. In an interview with Allure from 2013, Saldaa said that she might "end up with a woman raising my children," because "that's how androgynous I am" and responded, "Yes, I was raised that open," when asked to clarify if that meant she would be open to having a woman partner."Promise me one thing," she told Allure when asked if she had had a relationship with a woman before, "You're going to ask this question if you choose to, just put three dots as my response.
