Marjorie Taylor Greene accuses trans lawyer Chase Strangio of abuse of children
The Supreme Court will hear arguments today in a challenge to Tennessees ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth, and for the first time in history a trans lawyer will be arguing before the Supreme Court. This set Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) off. Related Were all going to have to suffer through 2 more years of Marjorie Taylor Greene The far-right, ultra MAGA anti-LGBTQ+ congresswoman handily won reelection in Georgia This trans lawyer is going to try to convince the Supreme Court that Tennessees law protecting kids from doctors cutting off their breast and genitals needs to be struck down, Greene posted to X along with a clip of ACLU attorney Chase Strangio explaining the case on CNN. Her claim that the ban was specifically about surgery is false; Tennessee banned all forms of gender-affirming care for trans youth, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgery is exceedingly rare for minors. This trans lawyer is going to try to convince the Supreme Court that Tennessees law protecting kids from doctors cutting off their breast and genitals needs to be struck down.Congress must pass my Protect Childrens Innocence Act to end this abuse! pic.twitter.com/mfpDHvwl9N Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) December 4, 2024Before the Court tomorrow, the question is really a simple one as I see it, Strangio explained in the CNN clip. This is a law that bans medical treatment only when it is prescribed inconsistent with an individuals sex. Our argument is that that treats people differently because of their sex, and therefore, the Court has to treat it like all other forms of sex discrimination, and thats why its unconstitutional.Strangio is referring to how Tennessees gender-affirming care ban, like those in other states, only bans gender-affirming care for trans youth but not for cis youth. That is, a cisgender boy could receive testosterone therapy if he feels his body isnt developing in a way consistent with his gender identity as a boy. The ban says nothing about that. On the other hand, a trans boy who also feels that his body isnt developing in a way that is consistent with his gender identity would be banned from receiving testosterone therapy. The only difference between the two is their sex assigned at birth.Tennessee lawmakers didnt hide the fact that their law is about discriminating on the basis of sex. The law itself says that its purpose is encouraging minors to appreciate their sex, that is, to accept their sex assigned at birth and everything that the state legislature believes should come with it.While Greene frames this medical care as abuse, she and other conservatives like her often portray any usurpation of parents rights as a form of abuse as well. But in this case, the state of Tennessee is intervening in families decisions and banning parents from making decisions about their kids medical treatments based on the states discomfort with those decisions.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

LIVE UPDATES: Supreme Court hears arguments in challenge to gender-affirming care ban
Today the United States Supreme Court will be hearing oral arguments from both sides of the legal battle United States v. Skrmetti. While no decision will be made today, the arguments made will impact transgender rights across the country for decades to come, especially in the realm of gender affirming care for minors. The case concerns Tennessees 2023 bill, S.B. 1, and the impacts that it has on three families of transgender youth deprived of the ability to provide their children with lifesaving healthcare within their own state, as well as the right for several doctors to provide care for consenting patients. The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee previously ruled to overturn the ban, whereas the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals allowed the ban to go back into effect, prompting the case to be sent to the Supreme Court for a final decision. The plaintiffs in the case are backed by the Biden-Harris administration and the Department of Justice, who challenge the legality of such a sweeping care ban. They are additionally represented by the American Civil Liberties Union and their attorney Chase Strangio, Lambda Legal, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. On the opposing side is Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, representing the state of Tennessee. Skrmetti is represented by Tennessee Solicitor General Matthew Rice. The United States government, as a third party in the case, is represented by U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar.LGBTQ Nation will be providing live updates on the oral arguments, as well as sharing significant developments in the case and the arguments surrounding it as the day goes on. A live broadcast of the arguments can be found on C-SPAN.

Wicked Pulled from Kuwait Cinemas Amid Speculated LGBTQ+ Controversy
Looks like Wicked has landed in some trouble before even taking off in Kuwait. The highly anticipated musical adaptation was pulled from the countrys cinema listings just one day before its scheduled premiere, and while Kuwaits Information Ministry has remained mum, local media isnt holding back on speculation.According to reports, the alleged ban may stem from the films LGBTQ+ cast or themesthough nothing has been officially confirmed.History of Bans in KuwaitThis isnt Kuwaits first time slapping a ban on a Hollywood blockbuster. Last summer, Barbie got the boot for promoting ideas and beliefs that are alien to the Kuwaiti society and public order, according to the state-run KUNA news agency. While the government didnt elaborate, many pointed to the movies flamboyant tone and aesthetics. The Barbie ban wasnt explicitly linked to LGBTQ+ themes, though it came in a country where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by imprisonment.Kuwait also banned A24s Talk to Me in 2022, specifically citing the casting of nonbinary transmasculine actor Zoe Terakes. Why Wicked?Speculation about Wicked centers on its rumored queer subtext and openly LGBTQ+ cast. The movie stars out actress Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, with other LGBTQ+ actors like Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Bowen Yang (Pfannee), and Marissa Bode (Nessarose) also in prominent roles.Erivo, who plays the green-skinned heroine, came out as bisexual in British Vogue in 2022, and Bailey has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights since publicly coming out in 2018. Yang, another fan favorite, plays Glindas friend Pfannee, who has a brief swooning moment over a (potentially bisexual-coded) Fiyero.Even if Wicked doesnt explicitly name any LGBTQ+ characters, its queer subtext and campy, larger-than-life aesthetic are undeniable. That alone might be enough to spark controversy in a region known for strict censorship laws.Whats Next?As fans debate the reasoning behind Wickeds mysterious disappearance, the film continues to soar elsewhere, with audiences buzzing about its stunning visuals, powerhouse performances, and, of course, its resonance with LGBTQ+ audiences.Related | Why a Canonically Bisexual Fiyero is Just What Wicked NeededWhile Kuwaits cinema-goers may miss out on this magical musical, one thing is clearWicked will always have a place in the hearts of queer fans worldwide. The Final NoteCould Glinda and Elphabas friendship be just too fabulous for certain audiences? Maybe. But no matter the reasoning, Wicked keeps proving that its story is as timelessand as unapologetically queeras ever.More Stories: Wicked Pulled from Kuwait Cinemas Amid Speculated LGBTQ+ ControversyAubrey Plazas Latest Photoshoot Is Sending Sapphics SpinningSpread Holiday Cheer With this Festive Playlist of Pop Girls + GaysDisneyland Dazzles with Holiday Cheer: Your 2024 Entertainment GuideThe HoliGAY Spirit Is Here! 25 Must-Watch Festive Lesbian MoviesThe post Wicked Pulled from Kuwait Cinemas Amid Speculated LGBTQ+ Controversy appeared first on Gayety.

Trans powerlifter asks Supreme Court to let her compete against cis women
JayCee Cooper, a transgender female athlete, has asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to let her compete in womens powerlifting events after she was forbidden from doing so by the sports governing body. The organization USA Powerlifting (USAPL) denied Cooper the right to compete in womens events in 2019, alleging that as a trans woman who went through male biological puberty Cooper had unfair physical advantages over cisgender female competitors. Related How did the trans sports debate become such a hot topic this election season? Nonbinary ESPN journalist Katie Barnes discusses what the trans sports debate reveals about gender bias in the U.S.. Cooper sued USAPL in January 2021, alleging that its policies violated the Minnesota Human Rights Act (MHRA), a law which forbids discrimination on the basis of sex and gender identity. In 2023, a Ramsey County District Court agreed with Cooper. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our newsletter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today However, the Minnesota Court of Appeals sent the case back to the trial court last March, stating that there were genuine issues of fact about whether USAPL excluded Cooper just because shes trans or whether the organization had a legitimate business reason for doing so, the Associated Press reported. In the state Supreme Court, Coopers attorney Christy Hall said USAPLs exclusion of Cooper for being trans clearly violates the states anti-discrimination law. But USAPLs lawyer Ansis Viksnins argued that USAPLs decision had nothing to do with [Coopers] present gender identity, adding, The reason for differentiation was her male physiology. This is not a mixed motive case, Viksnins told the Supreme Court justices, according to the Star Tribune. The motive here was to separate biological males into a category where they are competing against other people who were born biologically male. Part of the lawyers arguments in the high court centered around a 2001 state Supreme Court decision in the case of Goins v. West Group. The ruling decided that an employer requiring a trans female employee to use an employee restroom based on their biological sex is not a form of discrimination that violates the MHRA.Hall urged the court to rule in favor of Cooper and overturn its 2001 decision, stating, In reality, treating transgender women different from other women is at the heart of gender discrimination. However, Viksnins said that USAPLs position rests on the same legal reasoning used to decide that 2001 case and argued that ruling in favor of Cooper or overturning the 2001 decision would undermine other legal decisions based on that precedent. Cooper legally changed her name at age 28 and began powerlifting in 2017. She purchased a USAPL membership in 2018 and began competing in USAPL events in 2019. However that same year, USAPL said she could no longer compete and later developed an official policy requiring all competitors to compete in gender categories matching the biological sex athletes were assigned at birth. That same year, Outsports published an in-depth examination of USAPLs decision and the reactions of Coopers allies. In 2021, USA Powerlifting launched an MX category, providing a separate division for athletes of all gender identities. However, trans athletes say that such mixed-gender categories dont resolve the larger issues of discrimination and exclusion based on gender identity. After the court hearing, USAPL President Larry Maile said he regrets that debates over trans inclusion in sports has gotten mixed up with other contemporary debates on trans rights. The real tragedy for us is that [this] isnt restricted to a sensible common-sense discussion about performance and what makes sense in terms of categories, Maile said. Its painted as a lot of other things and its co-opted by other people in terms of things we have no interest in rights in general, use of restrooms, medical care. We are not interested in those. We are only interested in what occurs on the platform and how to pick it fair. Its unclear when the Minnesota Supreme Court will issue its ruling on the issue.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Judge refused to perform same-sex couples wedding: She looked disgusted then walked away
A judge in New York state reportedly refused to officiate a wedding for a same-sex couple immediately after she officiated a wedding for an opposite-sex couple. Now Democrats are calling on her to resign.Judge Felicia Pitts Davis in Syracuse was scheduled to perform two weddings on November 16, 2024. She officiated the first one which involved a straight couple but refused to perform the second one, which involved two women, according to sources who spoke with The Post-Standard, a newspaper for the Syracuse area. The Commission on Judicial Conduct will not confirm or deny the existence of a complaint against Pitts Davis, saying that such complaints arent made public unless they result in disciplinary action against a judge.New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) and Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh (Independence Party of New York) both denounced Pitts Davis. No one should be subject to hate or discrimination simply because of who they love. Any judge willing to officiate a wedding in their courtroom cannot pick and choose who deserves a wedding, Hochul wrote on social media. Judge Pitts-Davis refusal to perform a wedding ceremony for a same-sex couple doesnt align with this vision and, importantly, doesnt comply with state law, Walsh said in a statement.Onondaga County Democratic Chairperson Max Ruckdeschel called on Pitts Davis to resign, saying that the discrimination disqualifies her from any future consideration for our endorsement. Sarah McBride & the Democrats will never win if they dont learn to fight
Representative-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE) just made history as the first transgender member of Congress, an achievement that has been met with cruel backlash. Led by Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC), Republicans have imposed a House rule forcing McBride and all trans women to use mens rooms while pushing a national bathroom bill that threatens the dignity and safety of every transgender American. But whats most disappointing is McBrides near congenial acquiescence. Related Sarah McBride knows what shes doing Many are angry that she chose to comply with Mike Johnsons anti-trans rule, but shes too smart to fall for the GOPs tricks. Saying will follow the rules because she was not elected to fight about bathrooms is avoiding the argument. McBrides response using generic talking points about working for the American people and bringing down costs is just deflection. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Like the House Minority Leader, the Vice President and other leading Democrats, McBride rarely utters the word transgender. Also unsaid is the fact that trangender people are2.5to4 timesmore likely to experience violent attacks than gender conforming people, according to the Justice Department and the Williams Institute, and that bathroom bills target us for harassment, making it nearly impossible for us to work, attend school or simply live as full and equal citizens. Nor has McBride exposed Maces hypocrisy for calling herself, until a few weeks ago, a supporter of trans rights. Instead, McBride preaches grace and the abstract hope that Republicans will change. While some pundits hail this refusal to engage as strategic, many trans people, including myself, see it as a symptom of a broader failure. For decades, Democrats have shrunk from fights on core issues, alienating voters who increasingly perceive them as weak and feckless. Everyone knows that Democrats support transgender rights, but if even McBride appears apologetic and evasive in defending those rights, how can voters especially the blue-collar voters Democrats have been losing since the 1980s trust Democrats to stand up for any issue or principle? Its not really Sarahs fault. Since adolescence, shes been molded by Democratic elites, including mentors Bo and Joe Biden. Her political DNA comes from staid insiders, so she sounds exactly like the Democrats who have ceded ground to Republicans for decades. Contrast this with trans leaders like Danica Roem, a Virginia state senator, and Zooey Zephyr, a Montana assembly member. Both came to politics with few political connections and real-world careers outside of the bubble. Like McBride, they prioritize the broad needs of their constituents but unlike the Democratic Wunderkind from Delaware, they never back away from fighting for transgender rights. Zephyrs impassioned opposition to Montanas trans healthcare ban led to her censure, yet it also made her our champion and earned her the respect of allies and opponents alike.Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress in 1968, provides an even more compelling profile of effective courage. Without establishment blessing or support, she fought for her principles unabashedly from day one. When the Dixiecrat leaders of the House used seniority rules to deny Black representatives meaningful committee assignments,Chisholm demanded better and won.Chisholms boldness never stopped her from achieving legislative victories, leading national debates or earning respect. It enabled those achievements and demonstrated that conviction and courage drive progress.Democrats may not have the votes right now, but they do have the moral high ground on anti-trans bigotry if they find the courage to take it. A full scale retreat bears nothing but surrender; effective rear guard actions, fought on principle, provide the only path to future victories on trans and all other issues. Democrats like McBride should find their voice and rally not just trans Americans but all those who care for equality and justice. Its not a policy problem but a conviction problem. A lack of strident commitment has undermined the trust of voters for decades. When the party changes course, when it adopts the kind of plainspoken resolve embodied by Roem, Zephyr, and Chisholm (not to mention Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders), only then will it regain that trust, win back defectors, and make positive change.Stephanie Wadeis a transgender woman from Seal Beach California. Fans of The Real Housewives of Orange County are all too familiar with its former star Braunwyn Windham-Burke, especially after she came out as a lesbian in 2020.Well, the former housewife is making headlines again after she had a last minute wedding ceremony over the weekend at home with her longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Spinner. The two tied the knot at their Nashville, Tennessee house on December 4, with the ceremony attended by five of Windham-Burkes seven children.See on InstagramThis is just about us and us saying, You know what? We love each other. Lets do this, Windham-Burke told People.Although the two initially meant to wed in 2026, the anti-LGBTQ+ climate we all fear from the upcoming Trump presidency had the two wanting to tie the knot while they still had the chance. Still, they have larger weddings planned in Guatemala, California, and New York down the road, but by having the smaller get-together first, Windham-Burke said they wont be as stressed out so it will be more like a party with our friends. Were so excited to finally be legally wife and wifey, she said of the random ceremony. Jen is my best friend, and I am so lucky that I get to wake up and go to bed with the person that Id rather be around more than anyone else.See on InstagramSee on Instagram"I know it's funny that we're planning it last minute, but it's not a trivial decision," Spinner adds, noting that the marriage is more for the kids than anything. "Every kid is always looking for structure and safety that the adults in their life are going to be there for the long haul. This marriage is about showing them and having that legally documented that I am a parent. I'm one of four parents, but I'm a parent and I take that seriously and that I'm not going anywhere."The couple initially met on Instagram in 2022 and had two proposals, one from each wife. They had a ring exchange during New Years Eve 2023 following Windham-Burkes finalized divorce from Sean Burke after 23 years. They also had an unofficial ceremony on Valentines Day in Las Vegas, but things are finally official between the two, and we couldnt be happier for them.I literally this morning [Dec. 3] sent a text to our friends in Nasvhille, Were getting married tomorrow if youre free, said Windham-Burke. She overnighted her dress from Amazon and the two intended to get married at the courthouse, which unfortunately no longer honors homosexual marriages. This led them to get an official to come and perform the ceremony in the privacy of their own home. Moving forward, Windham-Burke and Spinner are about to close on a house on December 19 to officially embark on their new chapter as wives. Their California and New York weddings are still planned, but mostly so their grandmothers, who are too old to travel, can be there.Congratulations, you two!

MAGA singer slams Lindsey Graham with homophobic joke for questioning Donald Trump
Country singer and Trump supporter John Rich made a homophobic joke about Sen. Lindsey Graham after the South Carolina Republican expressed doubts about one of Donald Trumps Cabinet nominees. I sat across from Lindsey Graham at dinner with DJT a while back, wrote Rich, who is part of the country duo Big & Rich. As I was answering a direct question from POTUS, Lindsey twirled his Chardonnay (pinkies up) and told Trump I was a raging conspiracy theorist. Several transgender activists staged a protest at the Capitol, filming themselves dancing in a womens restroom in direct response to House Speaker Mike Johnsons (R-LA) ban on trans women from womens facilities, which he implemented after Rep. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The court did not issue a finding about the motive for Chilobas murder, who was 25 at the time of his death. At the trial, 23 witnesses testified, including a forensic pathologist who detailed that Chilobas mouth had been stuffed with socks and his face wrapped in denim from a pair of jeans. A post-mortem indicated the cause of death was suffocation. The killing was said to take place in the couples apartment sometime between December 31, 2022 and January 3, 2023. Neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the apartment on New Years Day that later subsided.Defensive wounds on Chilobas hands indicated he had struggled to defend himself, and forensic evidence showed Odhiambo had raped Chiloba prior to his murder. In his verdict, the judge detailed evidence that Odhiambo had left Chilobas decomposing body in their apartment and went on a spending spree using the dead mans phone. Records from a money transfer app showed Odhiambo went to several nightclubs in Eldoret and paid for massage and sex services.Odhiambo also bought the metal trunk that Chilobas body was discovered in. MAGA husband says giving his wife orgasms not babies is 'gay sex' and we're cackling
In these MAGA supporters are really dumb news, a conservative man said that having sex with your wife with the end goal of orgasms and not procreation is classified as gay sex. Umwhat?Right-wing couple and MAGA influencers Isabella and Josiah Moody appeared on an episode of Luke Beasleys new weekly YouTube show The Grudge, and a clip from their conversation is currently going viral on X (formerly Twitter) because of the absolutely wild things the husband said about sex.The best part about having sex is reproduction, Josiah explained. Seriously. I dont value sex because of an orgasm, Ivalue sex because I know that I am going to reproduce and have another baby. Sounds like something someone would say if they arent good in bed, but I digress.Maybe the orgasms arent good enough. Kidding. Sorry, Beasley said under his breath in response.Luke acted proud of the fact that his wife went off of birth control as soon as they got married so they could start pumping out kids. While that fact alone isnt shocking, the conclusion he draws is bizarre. As soon as were together, its like no birth control, no nothing, because Im not going to have gay sex. Gay sex is more than just another man and a man, its just the idea of looking at sex as such a materialistic thing and just like, Oh well, we just have an orgasm, and thats fun or whatever. (@) When Beasley pressed him on what that meant for people who are infertile, Josiah gave a completely tone-deaf answer.I am pro people committing to celibacy for the rest of their life, he said. Josiah should maybe take his own advice and close up shop because we definitely dont need a bunch of his MAGA babies running around. No gay sex with women, guys, Beasley reiterated, but the irony clearly went over Josiahs head because he earnestly replied, Very true, I agree. The video clip, which already has more than five million views, was immediately flooded with comments from people dunking on this Trump supporters wild ideas about what constitutes gay sex. Remember, kids, according to Josiah, gay sex isnt just two men going to pound town; its also when a man refuses to give his wife orgasms because pumping her full of babies is more important. Wed start feeling sorry for his wife if Isabelle had come back on Beasleys show to spew hate and vitriol. From people joking that Josiah must be a closeted gay man, writing, I dont want to have gay sex with women, I want to have gay sex with dudes normally, we think its a little gross when people act like all homophobes are secretly gay, but this dude is terrible so well overlook it to people calling MAGA supporters the most embarrassing cult of weirdos in human history to someone quipping that Josiah is too fundamentally stupid to have a conversation with, the jokes are coming in fast and furious and we cant stop laughing. So keep scrolling to see the funniest reactions! David Archuleta addresses his role in the bedroom: 'Doing only one thing is boring to me'
We loved David Archuleta when we first met him on American Idol, we loved him even more when he came out as gay, and he had us officially interested in his sex life when he seemingly came out as a top in the bedroom. The latter event turned into a viral sensation as we all fell in love with his newfound horny era, which he addressed in a recent interview on Logos Spill Bar with Johnny Sibilly.See on InstagramDuring the interview, Sibilly brought up an interaction he and Archuleta had in the past, where neither understood if they were on a date or not. This led to Sibilly asking the question on all of our minds as to Archuleta's ideal type of partner, especially considering hes been engaged to women in the past.My ideal partner? said Archuleta. I think I need someone whos able to match my energy. Somebody who will match my freak. This is the type of freak we hope to see more of, since apparently Archuleta lets out his full wild side in relationships, but his response paved the way to the segment Sibilly affectionately called, What Makes David Archuleta Horny?Archuletas immediate response was, A good face, then doubled down by saying he wasnt all that impressed by male genitalia, either.I dont understand when people are like, Oh! Thats a good dick, he said. Im like, oh, my gosh, like, what is attractive about a dick? I think if I like you, then, okay, whatever, if you have a nice dick, thats great. But I have to like you.See on InstagramHe admitted this leads to a lot of people labeling him as demisexual, or someone who requires some form of romantic or emotional connection prior to sex.In regard to the label, Archuleta said he did, in fact, consider himself demisexual, but on the scale of asexual. If I dont have this emotional connection with you, its like if Im not into dick anyway, then its like, Im not going to be going out seeking it.See on InstagramHis stance on thinking penises are ugly could also give credence to his role as a top in the bedroom, which he also addressed in the interview by saying, There are people who are, like, assuming I was just a bottom, bottom, bottom. When they first started saying that, I didnt even know what that meant. I did not know that type of terminology before. Now that he knows whats what, he finalized our speculation by saying, I would consider myself a vers. Its not like Im even into dick. And Im not really into ass, either, to be honest. Doing only one thing is boring to me.It is, indeed, and we agree with Sibillys response of do it all.Honestly, though, Archuletas answer is just as cute and wholesome as he is, and we really hope this ends up leading to one of our favorite gay couples of 2025.Check out the full interview below:

LPGA and USGA new gender policies would exclude a majority of trans women players
This Thursday, Dec. 5, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) released updated gender guidelines for player eligibility. According to the new rules, only transgender women who have not experienced any part of male puberty either beyond Tanner Stage 2 or after age 12 (whichever comes first) are eligible to compete. Additionally, they must meet standards set by the Medical Manager and Expert Panel.Players who have undergone gender-affirming processes must have continuously maintained the concentration of testosterone in their serum below 2.5 nmol/L. The testosterone level requirement is not new.Players competing in elite events who do not meet the LPGAs Gender Eligibility Criteria may be required to forfeit ranking points, prize money, and other status or items awarded to the Player based on those results. The United States Golf Association (USGA) has also implemented new policies that closely mirror those of the LPGA.While trans men are not mentioned in the LPGA guidelines, the USGA states that trans men can compete in womens golf events as long as they have never used exogenous testosterone or other similar anabolic androgenic substances and provide a written and signed declaration confirming this.In a press release, LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said Our policy is reflective of an extensive, science-based and inclusive approach. The policy represents our continued commitment to ensuring that all feel welcome within our organization, while preserving the fairness and competitive equity of our elite competitions. These guidelines would exclude any women who did not undergo gender-affirming care as adolescents or teens to stop the progress of puberty, as well as cisgender women and intersex individuals who have naturally higher levels of testosterone. Currently, 26 states have enacted restrictions or bans on gender-affirming care for transgender and nonbinary youth. The U.S. Supreme Court is reviewing a case out of Tennessee, U.S. v. Skrmetti, which could have wide-reaching implications for access to gender-affirming care nationwide. The issue of trans athletes in sports has become a flashpoint in the political arena, especially during the 2024 election, with Republicans spending over $200 million on anti-trans ads. However, there are roughly only 100 trans student athletes competing in public schools across the country out of an estimated 8 million student athletes. While the exact number of professional trans athletes is unknown, it is likely a very small fraction of the estimated 25,000 professional athletes in the U.S.Professional golfer Hailey Davidson shared her frustrations with the new guidelines on Instagram. For the record, I was not involved nor asked to be involved in any of the studies that any golf organization has just used to ban me, the only active golfer who is actually effected (sic) by these policy changes, Davidson wrote. In October, over 275 past and present professional womens golfers signed a letter presented to the LPGA and USGA, asking to repeal policies that allowed trans women to compete. The post LPGA and USGA new gender policies would exclude a majority of trans women players appeared first on News Is Out.

Trans refugees turn to TikTok and Instagram for help fleeing red states
In the aftermath of a national election in which Republicans spent $215 million on a coordinated effort to demonize the trans community, trans Americans in deep red states are fleeing for their lives. And theyre turning to TikTok and Instagram for help. Related The housing crisis hits especially hard for families fleeing red states to protect their trans kids Will a Kamala Harris and Tim Walz victory make a difference in the ongoing struggle for affordable housing? I cant live here as long as thats a danger for me, Texas native Iris says in a video posted to TikTok. I feel like my life has just started and I cant let it end before I get to do anything. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our newsletter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Iris reached out for assistance with moving costs shes thinking about relocating to California, with its strong protections for LGBTQ+ people. The ask wasnt easy, she told Wired magazine.Making that TikTok was really hard, because Ive never been a person who likes asking for help or needing help, really, Iris said. Especially in a system that values this imaginary idea of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, doing everything for yourself, and this individualism it makes it really hard to be vulnerable and ask for help because it feels like a failure. In states like Texas, finding healthcare for trans people is increasingly difficult, and its banned for trans minors. Trans Texans cant change the gender markers on their birth certificates and state IDs.With more legislation in the pipeline restricting or abolishing trans rights, Iris said she had no choice but to leave home.I just didnt know what else to do, she added. Her humbling TikTok video paid off: Iris raised $34,000 for her move, more than triple her goal of $10,000. While Iris reached out for help on her own, both TikTok and Instagram have also become resources for finding assistance through groups built for that purpose, providing a level of security online for trans people.Like Iris, most people just dont have the ability to move across the country, said Keira Richards, executive director of Denver-based nonprofit Trans Continental Pipeline (TCP). The group helps trans people relocate to Colorado by offering financial assistance, transportation, resources for local housing, and community assistance, in a state with strong LGBTQ+ rights and trans health care protections.Richards told Wired applications have skyrocketed, with a majority of requests coming from Texas and Florida, ballooning from 20 applications in October to over 400 by mid-November. Mutual aid funds like transanta, started in 2020, post letters and stories from trans people in need, whom users can directly and anonymously donate to. Genderbands offers yearly grants for transition care-related costs, including procedures, travel costs, and paperwork, and non-profit Rainbow Railroad helps LGBTQ+ people around the world flee persecution.TCPs Richards says her group is compiling resources outside of Colorado that are accessible on social. Were talking to other groups in Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Washington, the other safe states who are trying to compile similar resource lists like we do, she says. Were trying to support other groups trying to do the same so we can meet this demand.Whats kept me strong through it all is the belief that I will eventually get to a point of being able to transition, said Texas refugee Iris. The realization that all of that could be taken away from me, despite how long Ive waited and how much Ive been trying to prepare for that I knew that if I had to sit in that feeling for four years, I would not survive. The biggest act of resistance that trans people can do in this country, she said, is to refuse to die and refuse to let ourselves be pushed into the darkness.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Right-wing influencers may have been bribed to endorse Richard Grenell for secretary of state
An associate of Richard Grenell, the gay former ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence under former President Donald Trump, allegedly offered right-wing social media influencers up to five-figure sums after Trumps re-election to make favorable posts suggesting Grenell as a good pick for secretary of state. The reported bid didnt work, as Trump nominated Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for the position.Rick Loughery, former chair of the political youth association Young Republicans, allegedly contacted conservative influencers offering payments for positive posts about Grenell on X and Instagram. Related Gay Trump official Richard Grenell linked to group behind antisemitic ad campaign The ads seem pro-Jewish and pro-Israel until you find out where theyre airing. The contracts, revealed to Politico by two people who had knowledge of the effort, said that the influencers should post messages that must appear genuine, at peak posting times without appearing as an overt advertisement or promotional message. The influencers were also told to engage in their comment section, quote tweet, share, add to stories and reply in relevant threads and posts. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The contract stated that the money was to be paid by the political consulting firm Magnify Media Partners LLC in several installments between November and January. The firms owner Taylor Strand said, This project never moved forward, and Ric Grenell nor any other MAGA leaders were involved. Strand didnt respond to inquiries about the posts needing to speak positively about Grenell. When asked about it by a Politco reporter, Grenell dismissed the journalist as an unserious gossip reporter, and added, None of this is true.Nevertheless, Grenell reportedly mentioned his desire for the secretary of state position in private conversations over the last three years, the publication reported. Grenell was offered a role as director of national intelligence but turned it down. Sources have said he may still play an important role in the next administration.Grenell helped campaign and raise funds for Trumps re-election and was praised as a good possible secretary of state by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). During his time in the Trump administration, Grenell also served as a special envoy for Serbia-Kosovo relations and helped push the two countries to restore flights between their capitals. He also met with other foreign leaders to promote Trumps policies. However, sources told Politico that his business dealings in foreign countries and reputation as a prickly and less than diplomatic demeanor may have sunk his chances of getting the secretary of state job.Trumps administrative picks so far were seemingly selected based on who will be most loyal to his agenda, which includes gutting federal agencies and disrupting long-held norms of American governance and allyship. Trump is reportedly turned off by possible nominees who demonstrate inconsistency in their support, have issued past criticisms, have presidential ambitions, or show any hint of entitlement or sucking up for roles, multiple Trump advisers told Politico. Although Grenell claimed in August 2020 that President Trump is the most pro-gay president in American history, nothing backs up that claim. During his time in the Trump administration, Grenell said he worked with Trump ona campaign to end the criminalization of homosexualityaround the world, but the campaign seemingly accomplished nothing. Around the same time, Trump officials said it wouldviolate religious freedomto pressure countries to repeal their anti-LGBTQ+ laws.Since Trumps re-election loss in 2020, Grenell has repeated Trumps lie that the election was stolen due to an unprecedented nationwide conspiracy of voter fraud that only occurred in the states that Trump lost. He has also opposed the Equality Act legislation that would provide federal LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination protections claiming it would be an attack on religion.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Breaking: Chelsea Manning, Racquel Willis arrested at U.S. Capitol
About 15 activists were arrested in the U.S. Capitol today while protesting Republicans' transgender bathroom ban with a sit-in.Whistleblower Chelsea Manning and Raquel Willis, co-founder of the group behind the protest, Gender Liberation March, were among those detained. The group was made up of people of all gender identities, including transgender and cisgender women alike, who displayed a pink banner in front of the women's bathroom reading Flush bathroom bigotry. The protestors also gathered outside of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson's office, chanting Speaker Johnson, Nancy Mace, our genders are no debate! while another group of men and nonbinary allies displayed a yellow banner in the halls outside that read: "Congress: Stop pissing on our rights!Everyone deserves to use the restroom without fear of discrimination or violence. Trans folks are no different. We deserve dignity and respect and we will fight until we get it, Willis said in a statement. In the 2024 election, trans folks were left to fend for ourselves after nearly $200 million of attack ads were disseminated across the United States. Now, as Republican politicians, try to remove us from public life, Democratic leaders are silent as hell. But we cant transform bigotry and hate with inaction. We must confront it head on. Democrats must rise up, filibuster, and block this bill. The protest was in response to U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace's recently introduced resolution that bans transgender women from using womens restrooms at the U.S. Capitol. She has confirmed that the rule was "absolutely" targeting newly-elected Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride, the first-ever out transgender lawmaker in Congress.Johnson supported Mace in imposing a rule that mandating all single-sex facilities in Capitol buildings including restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms be reserved strictly for people based on their gender assigned at birth. Neither Johnson nor Mace have said how they intend to enforce it. Manning, a former U.S. military intelligence analyst who was imprisoned for seven years after disclosing classified information to the public until former-President Obama commuted her sentence in 2017, said that "I'm here today because every person deserves dignity and respect, both in daily life and in more symbolic places like the U.S. Capitol." "As someone who has fought against similar rules, I know what it's like to feel pushed aside and erased. But I also know the incredible power and resilience our community has," she said. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) used a slur on a video on X.com when describing protesters who were arrested Thursday after staging a sit-in on Capitol Hill.Today a group of protesters staged a sit-in on Capitol Hill to push back against the new rule that people must use bathrooms that correspond with their assigned gender at birth. Organized by the Gender Liberation Movement, protesters including Chelsea Manning and Raquel Willis occupied a womens restroom on Capitol Hill with signs that said Stop Pissing on Our Rights and Flush Bathroom Bigotry. The protest follows Rep. Nancy Maces (R-S.C.) proposed resolution from two weeks ago, which seeks to bar transgender individuals from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity. This resolution would specifically prevent Sarah McBride, the nations first transgender member of Congress, from using the womens restroom. Days later, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson implemented a new policy to enforce the ban.As of this report, at least 15 protesters were arrested. In response to the protests and subsequent arrests, Rep. Mace released a video on X where she used a slur to describe the protesters. News is Out wont republish the slur hereAlright, so some (slur) protesters showed up at the Capitol today to protest my bathroom bill, said Mace, standing outside a D.C. police station. But they got arrested, poor things. So I have a message for the protesters that got arrested.Mace then proceeded to mock the protesters with a megaphone, reciting Miranda Rights and doubting that many of the protesters could afford attorneys to represent them. The video was followed by a Mace for Congress placard. The post Rep. Rodrigo Reyes calls Ryan Albert a 'messy gay' ahead of 'Southern Charm' premiere
A petty feud between a couple gays is going on down South!Southern Charm is back for a monumental tenth season on Bravo and Rodrigo Reyes is no longer the only gay man on the hit show.Ryan Albert joins the group of friends this year and it leads to some tension between the two guys. After all, Albert has already admitted to being a pot-stirrer."I like to stir the pot too! We have to wait and see who's doing what. This show who's had three sassy male leads... Shep, Craig, and Austen... the three of them are more dramatic than Ryan and I could ever possibly have been. It's going to be nice for everyone to watch the drama," Reyes tells PRIDE. See on Instagram Although Albert is friendly with a few of the OG Charm cast members, Reyes wasn't too familiar with him before he came onto the show.It seems like things got off to a bit of a rough start once the two hunks met, but who's to say things can't be resolved in the future?"I didn't really know Ryan. Does this person really have my best interest at heart or are they just trying to stir the pot? I mean, more power to him... everyone loves a messy gay. Transgender Activists Stage Sit-In Protest at US Capitol Over Bathroom Ban Proposal
Chelsea Manning joins protesters in pushing back against policies targeting transgender lawmakers and individuals. On Dec. 5, 2024, trans rights activists, including Chelsea Manning, staged a protest on Capitol Hill to challenge new policies barring transgender individuals from using single-sex facilities that align with their gender identity. The demonstrations, which featured a bathroom sit-in and a dance protest, were organized by the Gender Liberation Movement (GLM), a grassroots collective advocating for bodily autonomy and gender equity.Bathroom Sit-In Makes a Bold StatementOver a dozen activists gathered in bathrooms across from Speaker Mike Johnsons (R-La.) office, holding banners with messages like Flush Bathroom Bigotry and chanting, Speaker Johnson, Nancy Mace: our bodies are no debate! GLM founder Raquel Willis led a group of transgender women into the womens restroom near Johnsons office, where they peacefully protested by washing their hands and chanting.Chelsea Manning, a former U.S. Army intelligence analyst turned whistleblower, was among those arrested during the sit-in. The Spark: Johnson and Maces PoliciesSpeaker Johnson recently implemented a bathroom policy restricting access based on biological sex, following a push by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.). Mace has been vocal about her opposition to transgender rights, frequently misgendering trans women and introducing legislation to ban transgender individuals from using facilities that align with their gender identity on federal property.Maces efforts are widely seen as a reaction to the election of Sarah McBride (D-Del.), who will become the first openly transgender member of Congress in January. McBride has stated she will comply with the policy, calling it a distraction from more pressing issues.Related | Historic Achievements of LGBTQ+ Candidates in the 2024 ElectionDancing for Trans RightsThe day before the sit-in, activists staged a dance protest in a womens restroom in the Capitol. Netflixs Squid Game cast a cis man to play a trans woman
The highly anticipated second season of Netflixs hit South Korean thriller series Squid Game is being criticized for casting a cisgender man to play a trans woman. On December 4, the streamer released a Meet the Cast video, featuring new cast members introducing fans of the series to their characters. In the clip, South Korean actor Park Sung-hoon describes his character, Hyun-ju, as a former special forces soldier and a transgender woman. The 39-year-old actor went on to explain the characters motivation for participating in the dystopian game at the center of the show. She joins the game because shes short on money for her gender-affirming surgery, he says. Through her resilience, she breaks down stereotypes and shines as an inspiring character. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today U.K. outlet the Independent notes that the inclusion of a transgender character in a South Korean production is a big deal. South Korea does not recognize same-sex marriage under the law, though earlier this year, the countrys top court ruled that people in same-sex relationships are entitled to the same benefits under South Koreas National Health Insurance Service as heterosexual couples. But critics on social media blasted Parks casting as a transgender woman, with many questioning why the shows creators didnt hire an actual trans actress to play the role.As them notes, actress Jen Richards, who is trans, has been a leading voice in arguing why it is inappropriate, and even dangerous, to cast cis men to play transgender women. Cis men play trans women in the media with the furthest reach, are rewarded for it, & tell the world trans women are really men, Richards wrote in a 2016 Twitter thread responding to out actor Matt Bomers casting as a trans woman in the film Anything. When Jared Leto plays Rayon and accepts his Oscar with a full beard, the world sees that being a trans woman is just a man performing.Richards elaborated further in the 2020 Netflix documentary Disclosure, describing a direct link between cis men playing trans women and violence directed at trans women: In my mind, part of the reason that men end up killing trans women out of fear that other men will think that theyre gay for having been with trans women, is that the friends, the men whose judgement they fear of, only know trans women from media, and the people who are playing trans women are the men that they know, she says. This doesnt happen when a trans woman plays a trans woman. For more than 40 years, Americans have sat down in front of their TV screens or in movie seats and seen male actors pretend to be trans women, GLAADs Nick Adams wrote in a 2016 op-ed in The Hollywood Reporter. By casting Robert Reed, Terence Stamp, John Lithgow, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tom Wilkinson, Lee Pace, Cillian Murphy, Liev Schreiber, Beau Bridges, Jared Leto, Eddie Redmayne, Steven Weber, Denis OHare and Walton Goggins as transgender women, viewers receive two strong and wrong messages: 1. that being transgender is an act, a performance, just a matter of playing dress-up; and 2. that underneath all that artifice, a transgender woman really is a man.Rather proving both Richardss and Adamss point, many anti-LGBTQ+ social media commenters laughed off criticism of Parks casting in Squid Game. At least the casting acknowledges that trans women are men, one anti-trans troll wrote.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Nancy Mace is now calling trans people slurs
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who has a long history of anti-trans politics, used a slur to refer to transgender people in a video she posted to social media. Last month, in response to the first transgender person getting elected to Congress Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE) Mace introduced a resolution banning trans women from using the womens facilities at the Capitol, as well as legislation to ban trans people from using restrooms on all federal property. This is despite the facts that trans people have been working at and visiting the Capitol for years without incident and that McBride would get her own private bathroom as a member of Congress. Related Nancy Mace says its offensive Sarah McBride thinks that shes equal to her She has misgendered McBride and called her it. So I have a message for the protestors who got arrested. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Mace had her staffers running around the Capitol today looking for a bullhorn. Wasnt sure why. Now we know.[image or embed] Ron Filipkowski (@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social) December 5, 2024 at 8:02 PMMace has been using transphobia to build her political career since before she was elected to Congress. In her first campaign for Congress, she made up a law that she claimed required transgender equality in the military, said that her Democratic opponent was responsible for it, and said that it would result in a Marine Corps base in her district getting shut down. It was all a lie there was no such law and the Marine base is still in operation today but it helped her secure her seat in Congress. In her second run for Congress, she accused her opponent of providing SEX CHANGE SURGERY. PUBERTY BLOCKERS. GENDER CHANGING HORMONES. FOR CHILDREN? in an ad, even though her opponent was a doctor who worked at a hospital that didnt provide gender-affirming care for trans people at all. Her opponent was forced to resign from her job.Mace has a poor record on LGBTQ+ rights in Congress, getting scores of 15 and 14 out of 100 on HRCs Congressional Scorecard, and she even voted against the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination against LGBTQ+ people at the federal level, and against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act because it would give some protections to transgender inmates. In her effort to stop McBride from using the womens restrooms at the Capitol, Mace has referred to McBride as it and as a man. Candace Owens is totally cool with Ukraine losing to Russia because she thinks Zelensky is gay
Conservative pundit Candace Owens falsely claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is a homosexual actor in a post to social media, adding it would be spiritually wrong for her to support a victory by Ukraine over Russia in a post to social media.Russia annexed parts of Ukraine in 2014, then invaded Ukraine in 2022. No amount of media brainwash [sic] in the world could ever make me hope that Zelensky triumphs over an orthodox Russia, Owens posted to social media on Dec. 3. Spiritually, I just know thats wrong. You simply do not support a homosexual actor that is locking up churches and bishops. (@) Zelensky is married to Olena Zelenska, has fathered a child, and has never identified as LGBTQ+, as was noted by one commenter.Zelensky is married with kids and clearly loves his family. Putin on the other hand has a man crush on Steven Seagal and we don't even know his family, one viewer posted. Is Candace on the Kremlin payroll or is she just posting hate for clicks? (@) Owens has a history of racist, transphobic, and homophobic rhetoric. In 2023, she reportedly made inflammatory comments directed at Native Americans and Two-Spirit identities at a public event, journalist Victoria Brownworth reported in a post to social media at the time.Is this like a Native American tribe, like high smoking and talking about your spirit? Im asking you seriously because when I think of Native American tribes talking about their spirits, I know that they used to smoke a lot. They used to do drugs. They also were cannibals who used to eat people, Brownworth reported Owens said. (@) In January, she declared a link between big Pharma and its clinical promotion of insanity among school children and called the LGBTQ+ community a sexual plague following a school shooting in Perry, Iowa.Gender dysphoria is a mental disorder and the entire LGBTQ movement brought with it a sexual plague on our society, Owens posted to social media. Owens posted to social media. Not a joke or an exaggeration to say that barring political assassinations, this is likely the biggest scandal that has ever happened in politics in human history. (@) In September, Owens declared that TikTok was socially engineering men to be gay and turning women against men as part of a broader conspiracy by Hollywood, the media, and psychoanalysts to manipulate Americans to engage in what she calls unnatural behaviors.Theyre not socially engineering us to do good things, Owens said on her podcast, Candace, in September. They are making men more and more effeminate, encouraging effeminate behavior, and convincing women to hate men. This is just what I see happening, and its terrifying.Ukraine has a mixed record on LGBTQ+ rights. While same-sex sexual relations are legal and employment discrimination based on sexual and gender identity is banned in the country, there are no housing protections or recognition of nonbinary or transgender identities. Russia is currently cracking down on its LGBTQ+ citizens with gay bars being raided by police in recent months.

He kicked her, threw her to the floor, ripped it off her shoulder. She doesnt know where her purse is, her phone is. Shes beat up pretty good. The video has long sections without audio.Ive been f*ck*ng framed, man, Fanjul says when the audio resumes. When an officer asks him what he wants, Fanjul stammers, I would like to, uh, I would like, I think, to go to bed.Come on, bro, Fanjul slurs a few minutes later as police search him. Look, come on, man, be real.F*ck*ng aye, man. Lets take a break, he says as he is being strapped into the backseat of a police vehicle. Im thirsty and Im interrogated.Later in the video, Fanjul has difficulty exiting the police vehicle after he entangles himself in his cuffed hands. This is like the worst week Ive ever had in my life.Police responded to reports of a woman screaming at Fanjuls home in Palm Beach just after 11 p.m. on January 28, as first reported by the Palm Beach Post. The gate and front door were open when police arrived, and inside, officers found Fanjul standing over the woman, who was curled into a fetal position on the floor, according to arrest records and as seen in the video. The woman told police that she and Fanjul, (who goes by Nico) dined at the Flagler Steakhouse in Palm Beach earlier that evening. She said Fanjul was angered they were seated next to a gay couple and that he became increasingly irate as the dinner progressed, to the point that other guests reportedly took note. The woman said the dispute continued after the couple left the restaurant and returned home. Once inside the property on the front lawn, the woman said she told Fanjul to drop the matter. At this point, the woman said Fanjul repeatedly punched and kneed her in the face. She said when she threatened to call the police, Fanjul reportedly grabbed the phone and the womans hand holding it within his hand and drove them into the ground with such force that it shattered the phone. She further alleged that when she screamed for help, he dragged her inside the residence, where he tried to choke her.The assault stopped when police arrived.Fanjul was also arrested on April 22, 2023, for allegedly assaulting a woman at his residence following a round of drinking and insults at the Echo sushi restaurant. In an eerily similar scenario, Fanjul was accused of making vulgar statements about prior incidents between them," according to official court documents seen by Page Six.That argument escalated after the couple arrived at Fanjuls residence, and he allegedly tackled her to the ground when she tried to leave. She accused him of slamming her phone when she threatened to call the police and claimed she escaped after she elbowed and kneed him, and ran screaming into the yard. She allegedly told police Fanjul had a history of such abusive and controlling behavior.Fanjul made national headlines in 2017 when he was dating Tinsley Mortimer of the Bravo TV show Real Housewives of New York City. Mortimer was arrested for trespassing at Fanjuls home, but the charges were later dropped.Fanjul is the son of Alexander Fanjul, Sr., an executive at Florida Crystals, one of the largest producers of sugar in the region. The younger Fanjul is not an employee of the company, according to a spokesperson.

Tulsi Gabbard is a mixed bag of pro- and anti-LGBTQ+ views
Former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the Director of National Intelligence, a position that would oversee 18 spy agencies. While shes a former lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, her appointment has concerned some pundits, considering her seeming support of dictators.Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in October 2022 and later became a pro-Trump Republican, has a mixed record on LGBTQ+ issues. She once worked for an anti-gay activist group and has made numerous statements against LGBTQ+ content in schools and supporting trans youth. But during her 2020 presidential campaign, Gabbard refused to respond toan HRC questionnaire on LGBTQ+ issues. She has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ activism and is an outspoken opponent of gender-affirming care for children. In 2022, she announced she was leaving the Democratic party, citing perennial rightwing complaints like wokeness and anti-white racism. Same-sex marriageGabbard worked with her fathers anti-gay organization, the Alliance for Traditional Marriage, in the late 1990s and early 2000s to successfully pass a constitutional amendment in Hawaii banning same-sex marriage. The group called homosexuality a unhealthy, abnormal behavior that should not be promoted or accepted in society. Her father wasthe director of Stop Promoting Homosexualityand served on the steering committees of the National Campaign to Protect Marriage and Save Traditional Marriage. In 2004, she testified at a hearing against a civil unions bill, saying, To try to act as if there is a difference between civil unions and same-sex marriage is dishonest, cowardly and extremely disrespectful to the people of Hawaii, As Democrats, we should be representing the views of the people, not a small number of homosexual extremists. However, she apologized for her anti-LGBTQ+ views during her 2012 campaign for Congress. In 2013, she and 211 other Congress membersfiled a Supreme Court amicus briefagainst the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law that forbade the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages.I grew up in socially conservative household where I was raised to believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, Gabbard explained in a January 2019 video apologizing for her past anti-LGBTQ+ views, adding, In my past, I said and believed things that were wrong, and worse, they were very hurtful to people in the LGBTQ community and their loved ones. Trans children in sportsIn 2020, she co-sponsored the anti-trans Protect Womens Sports Act, a bill that would ban transgender girls and women from participating in sports as their gender. The bill would amend Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972 to make it illegal for sports programs to permit a person whose biological sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls. Her bill didnt define biological sex or say how it will be determined whether by DNA tests, genital exams, or other possible measures leaving it up to state and local sports governing bodies to develop their own systems to ensure that they are in compliance with federal legislation.Title IX is being weakened by some states who are misinterpreting Title IX, creating uncertainty, undue hardship, and lost opportunities for female athletes, Gabbard said in a statement. Our legislation protects Title IXs original intent which was based on the general biological distinction between men and women athletes based on sex. Transgender access to public bathroomsIn 2019, Gabbard supported the Equality Act, a law which would update federal civil rights laws to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in education, employment, housing, credit, federal jury service, the use of federal funds, and public accommodations, which includes public bathroom access. Dont say gay/LGBTQ+ discussions in schoolsGabbard supports Floridas Dont Say Gay law, a law that forbids instruction on LGBTQ+ issues in K-12 schools. In April 2022, she posted a social media video message saying the lawdidnt go far enoughand that it stops indoctrinating woke sexual values in our schools to a captive audience that is by law required to attend. She then said its not the governments job to instill moral values in its citizens and that public schools are failing. Parental rights are under attack all across the country as the government tries to usurp parents rights and responsibility to raise their own children, she said in the video, echoing rhetoric from the so-called parents rights movement that has supported banning LGBTQ+ content and queer-inclusive policies from schools. When I first heard about Floridas Parental Rights bill, I was shocked it only protects children K-3. Third grade? How about 12th gradeor not at all. Meanwhile, schools are failing: 1 in 4 graduates are functionally illiterate. Parents should raise their kids, not the government pic.twitter.com/CycF8cKRh3 Tulsi Gabbard (@TulsiGabbard) April 4, 2022In a 2000 press releasefrom The Alliance for Traditional Marriage, Gabbard attacked gay rights activists who opposed her mothers bid for the states board of education, stating, This war of deception and hatred against my mom is being waged by homosexual activists because they know, that if elected, she will not allow them to force their values down the throats of the children in our schools. Gender-affirming care for trans youthIn November 2022, Gabbard released a Facebook video stating that the number of kids who identify as transgender and those receiving gender-affirming care have risen over the past five years due to the radical woke agenda being pushed on our kids by so-called healthcare professionals, [mainstream]/social media, and even [President Joe] Biden directly. This is very intentional, and its the consequence [of] rejecting the existence of objective reality, by rejecting this most fundamental truth of the differences between a biological male and female, she said. She also claimed there are no long-term studies on the effects of these dangerous treatments on our kids, but then contradicted her claim by saying that hormone therapy and puberty blockers harm cognitive development. Numerous major medical associations in the U.S. support these treatments they have been safely used for decades on children with early onset puberty and rare cancers. In October 2022, Gabbard spoke in front of the Tennessee capitol in Nashville at the Rally to End Child Mutilation, a rally against gender-affirming care. At the rally, attendees held signs that read Doctors who mutilate children should be killed and Homo sex is sin.The rallywas organized by conservative podcaster andtransphobe Matt Walsh. Walsh spoke at the event alongsideSen. Marsha Blackburn(R-TN), state lawmakers like state Sen. Jack Johnson (R) and state Rep. William Lamberth (R), a lawyer from the anti-LGBTQ+ hate groupAlliance Defending Freedom,Such rhetoric claiming that pro-trans advocates want to mutilate children has been used to vilify health centers and has led tobombing and death threats against children and medical professionals. In reality, gender-affirming surgeries are only rarely performed on trans minors, and genital surgeries are never performed on them. Conversion therapyWhile working for The Alliance for Traditional Marriage, which she later cited as a positive experience when she ran for the state legislature in 2002, the organizations website, which appears to have been written by her father, had anFAQ that promoted conversion therapy and groups that push it. So-called ex-gay conversion therapy has been denounced as ineffective and dangerous by numerous major American psychological associations.Gabbard said in 2019 that she never personally supported conversion therapy. In 2017, she supported the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, federal legislation to prohibit anti-LGBTQ+ conversation therapy. Discrimination protectionsIn 2019, Gabbard supported the Equality Act, legislation to enshrine LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination protections into federal law.All Americans must be treated equally under the law regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin, she wrote, urging the Senate to pass this important legislation to end the discrimination that still plagues our fellow Americans. She has also supported other anti-discrimination legislation like the Fair and Equal Housing Act, Freedom from Discrimination in Credit Act, Juror Non-Discrimination Act, Student Non-Discrimination Act, Safe Schools Improvement Act, and the Do No Harm Act, all of which prohibit different forms of anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination. She has also said that she opposed Dont Ask, Dont Tell, the ban on out LGBTQ+ military service members. She wrote that during her time serving in the military in the Middle East, I saw firsthand the negative impact of a government attempting to act as a moral arbiter for their people, dictating in the most personal ways how they must live their lives. Other LGBTQ+ issuesShe has said thatgender-neutral language denies the existence of women. In 2022, shespoke at the far-right Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)alongside anti-LGBTQ politicians like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Gov.Ron DeSantis(R-FL). 10 iconic pop culture moments featuring strap-ons
For all the (slow) progress pop culture has made in embracing queer sex, it's been particularly slow to embrace one aspect in particular the strap-on.In 2023, The Daily Beast questioned whether strap-ons are "the last taboo of sex on TV," noting how few and far between scenes that have featured them have been over the years. When they are featured, it's often as a joke, and more likely to revolve around role reversals in heterosexual sex rather than anything queer. But some movies and TV shows (and pop icons) have done their best to celebrate strap-ons all the same, creating some unforgettable sapphic moments that we're more than happy to revisit.1. 'Sense8' Nomi and AmanitaViewers already knew that Sense8 was going to include a lot of top notch sex scenes, thanks to the first few minutes of the series already including Nomi (Jamie Clayton) and Amanita (Freema Agyeman) getting it on with the help of a trusty strap.2. Christina Aguilera's LA Pride performanceChristina Aguilera made serious headlines when she donned a glittery green strap for her duet with Kim Petras during LA Pride in 2022. Truly iconique.3. 'Tipping the Velvet' (@) This 2002 adaptation of Sarah Waters' queer classic Tipping the Velvet may have been made for TV, but that didn't stop them from pushing some serious boundaries for the aughts. This includes Nan (Rachael Stirling) being sent to fetch something from the trunk of one of her lovers, only to be stunned by the discovery of a harness and strap she was expected to put on. Whew!4. 'The L Word' Alice and DanaDespite its many, many, many sex scenes, The L Word wasn't exactly known for its use of sex toys throughout the series. Actually, the most memorable scene involving toys has got to be when Alice (Leisha Hailey) brings Dana (Erin Daniels) on a shopping trip to a local sex store.Sales Clerk: "If you use it with a harness, you can detach the dld, leave the btt plg inside while you do other things."Dana: "What, like, the dishes?"5. 'The Real L Word'And then, of course, was The Real L Word, an oft-forgotten reality series that followed real queer women in Los Angeles (and later New York) and tried to be just as dramatic and raunchy as its fictional counterpart. This ultimately included an extremely controversial scene that showed two of the show's participants having sex using a strap-on.6. 'Orange is the New Black'The only strap-on sex scene in seven seasons of Orange is the New Black featured none other than Big Boo (Lea DeLaria), and was praised for actually showing a "fat, butch, middle-aged lesbian" having sex with the same explicitness as the show's other scenes.7. Lady Gaga for 'Q' (@) "We all know that one of the biggest talking points of the year was that I have a dick, so why not give them what they want?" Lady Gaga told Q when she posed for their 2010 magazine cover. "I want to wear a dick strapped to my vagina."That's some queen shit right there.8. 'Pariah'Pariah centers around the ideas of identity and expectations, so it's actually quite fitting that its strap-on scene involves Alike (Adepero Oduye) deciding that the strap-on purchased for her by her best friend is not actually for her after all.9. 'And Just Like That...'The relationship Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has with Che (Sara Ramirez) may have been the most controversial aspect of Sex and the City revival series And Just Like That... But their strap-on scene was arguably a step up from that time the original series had Samantha (Kim Cattrall) briefly get a girlfriend and throw out her back during their off-screen strap play.10. Chappell Roan on 'Saturday Night Live' (@) Technically, no strap-on was present when Chappell Roan performed a brand new song, "The Giver," during her appearance on Saturday Night Live. But with lyrics like "Good luck finding a man who has the means / To rhinestone cowgirl all night long," we all knew exactly what she was going on about.

LGBTQ+ Africans are sitting ducks now that Donald Trump will return to the White House
Donald Trumps victory on November 5th sent shockwaves well beyond the borders of the United States. His return to the White House will have significant effects on global politics and it has raised particular concerns about LGBTQ+ rights worldwide. For LGBTQ+ individuals across the African continent, where restrictive laws and violence are on the rise, the stakes have never been higher.Trumps previous administration oversaw a significant rollback in protections for LGBTQ+ people, and his most recent campaign rhetoric which especially prioritized a strong anti-trans agenda suggests a continuation and escalation of the GOPs anti-LGBTQ+ policies. Related Donald Trump had a plan to end HIV by 2030. His re-election may kill that plan. In 2019, he announced the Ending HIV Epidemic Initiative. But the GOP seems determined to gut it entirely. During his first term, Trumps policies and rhetoric consistently undermined LGBTQ+ rights in the United States. He also emboldened oppressive regimes and conservative movements around the world, all while his administration aligned with authoritarian leaders who shared his views. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today With Trump at the helm, U.S. foreign policy undermined the progress achieved during the Obama administration and weakened federal support for LGBTQ+ equality. A second Trump term risks further emboldening repression and limiting advocacy efforts globally. Dismantling global progressHistorically, U.S. foreign policy has shaped global human rights standards, which improved while Barack Obama actively championed LGBTQ+ equality on a global scale. His administration established the Global Equality Fund, which provided crucial support to activists and fought against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation through sanctions and the reallocation of aid. The administration further advanced LGBTQ+ rights in international forums like the United Nations, initiated programs through USAID, and employed both public diplomacy and economic influence to promote inclusivity and equality worldwide. When Trump became President, he prohibited transgender individuals from serving in the military, reduced LGBTQ+ representation, and allowed for religious exemptions that led to discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace and healthcare. He also sought to dismantle healthcare rights for queer and transgender people. In 2020, the Trump Administration also tried to slash PEPFAR funding by almost $300 million. The Presidents Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is a program created during the George W. Bush administrations efforts to fight HIV/AIDS in low-income countries, mainly in Africa and the Caribbean. It has been a lifeline for millions of Africans, particularly LGBTQ+ people, who face heightened vulnerability to HIV due to stigma, criminalization, and lack of access to health care. There have been multiple concerns that a second Trump administration will again attempt to drain the program. Emeka Philip, a Nigerian queer rights activist, told LGBTQ Nation that the program has been life-saving for both heterosexual and LGBTQ+ individuals since the start of the epidemic. The proposed cuts, which we believe he will attempt again, will not only impact LGBTQ people but will also cause significant suffering across the entire continent. An epidemic is a risk we cannot afford due to one mans attempt to suppress a certain minority.Ideological ammunitionAfrica faced significant challenges last year due to the reintroduction of harsh anti-LGBTQ+ laws that resulted in increased violence against the LGBTQ+ community. If history is any indication, a second Trump administration will provide tacit approval for governments to repress queer communities (Trumps disdain for LGBTQ+ rights and his administrations emphasis on conservative values has already found a receptive audience among several African leaders who hold traditional views). This will create an even more hostile environment and deepen the crisis for queer individuals worldwide who already face barriers to accessing health care due to stigma and criminalization.Several African nations, including Uganda, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and Ghana, have enacted or proposed increasingly harsh anti-LGBTQ+ laws within the past several months. These laws often cite Western conservative ideologies as justification and include severe penalties such as life imprisonment and even the death penalty for same-sex relationships. Ugandas Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023, signed by President Yoweri Museveni, imposes the death penalty for aggravated homosexuality. This legislation drew global condemnation and resulted in sanctions from numerous countries and the United Nations. In response, President Joe Biden cut aid to Uganda and imposed visa restrictions on Ugandan officials who were deemed responsible for undermining democracy and repressing marginalized groups. Additionally, the World Bank halted new loans to Uganda, which impacted the countrys economic development.Ghana also passed a harsh anti-LGBTQ+ bill in March, which is still awaiting the presidents signature. The Biden Administration and the United Nations threatened to cut aid and loans to Ghana if the bill becomes law. Ghanas Ministry of Finance also warned that Ghana could lose billions of dollars and suffer a devastating economic setback if they lose foreign aid.Activists like Sarah, a Ugandan human rights activist, are scared the Trump administration wont uphold the sanctions and will lift already established bans. She told LGBTQ Nation that Ugandan lawmakers were overjoyed by Trumps reelection because they were confident their visa bans would be lifted. Members of the Ugandan parliament and other lawmakers across Africa celebrated Trumps victory because of his deep ties with conservative Christian movements who were the architects of the Ugandan draconian bill and have been responsible for anti-LGBTQ lobbying in Africa. This would provide further ideological ammunition for these governments to follow in Ugandas footsteps and act with impunity to clamp down on queer communities, knowing that under Trumps leadership the U.S. Will turn a blind eye to global LGBTQ issues. She continued, There have been reports of brutal killings of gay men in South Africa, Nigeria, and Cameroon, accompanied by a rising tide of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment throughout the continent. The absence of a strong international response during the Trump administration would enable such violence to spread. Im certain Ghanas bill will be signed as soon as Trump takes office because there will be nothing to stop them anymore. The United States has influenced LGBTQ+ issues in Africa in both progressive and regressive ways. During Trumps first term, American evangelical groups contributed to anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and supported laws that criminalize queer identities. Ugandas Anti-Homosexuality Act and similar legislation in Ghana were inspired by these groups frameworks. Under Trump this time around, evangelical organizations influence could increase. Through them, Trump would indirectly fuel anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment in Africa and bolster discriminatory laws. Nigerian activist Philip explained, Organizations such as the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and Family Watch International, which have actively advocated for draconian policies regarding LGBTQ issues in Uganda and Ghana, may see an increase in their influence moving forward and will intensify their campaigns to push for harsher laws.LGBTQ+ activists in Africa rely on international support to navigate hostile environments. During Trumps first term, funding cuts for global human rights initiatives weakened these networks. A return to such policies would isolate African LGBTQ+ organizations, making them more vulnerable to state crackdowns and community backlash. The impact of a Trump presidency would be most profoundly felt by marginalized groups, particularly transgender women like Jane and Jackie. They have been in hiding since March, when the Ghanaian parliament passed a bill restricting their rights. Honestly, its quite disappointing that he won, Jane told LGBTQ Nation. Given everything happening in Ghana and Africa as a whole, we needed Kamala to win, as that might have helped keep our leaders in check. However, since she didnt win, we have no choice but to brace ourselves and prepare for the worst. I sense a storm brewing for next year. For years, queer Americans have been a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for us queer Africans, Jackie added. We get to live vicariously through them and imagine what our lives would have been like if we were born into a progressive society. But watching their rights being stripped from them makes us realize were indeed sitting ducks .Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

An Alabama LGBTQ+ group has asked a federal judge to issue an injunction over a mayors decision to block the group from marching in an annual Christmas parade happening this Sunday. The mayor has said that he excluded the group over safety concerns.Prattville Pride was the first local group to pay the fee to join the city of Pratvilles annual Christmas parade. The group also said it will abide by the parades rules. However, when an anti-LGBTQ+ group calledClean Up Alabama found out about the Pride groups inclusion, it sent out an email asking its supporters to pressure the parades organizers to remove Prattville Pride from the event. Related This big gay winter festival was the ancient precursor to Christmas It was one of the most elaborate mid-winter parties in human history and was filled with a combination of booze, sex, and gratitude. Clean Up Alabama claimed that Prattville Pride would display transgender Pride flags or drag queens in violation of the parades family friendly policies against political messaging and lewd and offensive entries. However, on Wednesday, Prattville Pride asked the city for extra security during the parade. Then, on Thursday morning, the city government informed Prattville Pride that it was no longer allowed to participate. This morning, it was brought to the Citys attention from Prattville Pride that there are serious safety concerns regarding Prattville Prides participation in the Christmas parade, a statement from Gillespies office said, according to WSFA. Until today, there has only been conjecture and speculation regarding potential safety concerns that Prattville Prides participation in the parade may cause. The City will not put the rights of parade participants ahead of the safety of its citizens, the statement continued. Because of the safety concerns for Prattville Pride, other parade participants, as well as parade bystanders, the City has made the decision to remove Prattville Pride from the Christmas parade. This decision was made with careful thought and consideration while balancing the rights of parade participants against the overall safety of everyone involved at the parade, the statement concluded. The City will always respect freedoms and rights of expression. However, as in this instance, it must put the overall safety of its citizens first. In response, Prattville Pride filed for an injunction at a federal court, demanding to be allowed back into the parade. The group said it still plans on building its parade float in the hopes that the court will allow their re-entry.We had the purest of intentions in signing up: visibility, representation, offering a fun opportunity for our community to get involved with a tradition in Prattville, said Prattville Prides vice president, Caryl Lawson. We believe that we have a very strong case. The Constitution supports our case, and were very hopeful that the injunction gets approved in time for us to participate. Lawson may have a strong case. In 1995, the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Hurley v. Irish-American Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Group of Boston, that a private group that organized the annual St. Patricks Day parade in Boston couldnt be forced to include an LGBTQ+ group whose views it disagreed with, even though the parade occurred on the city streets. In this case, the Christmas parades organizers arent a private group but a municipal government, and governments in the U.S. arent supposed to exclude groups for political viewpoints because it would violate the Constitutions free speech amendment (just as long as the groups follow whatever other participatory rules set forth).Prattville has a population of 39,318, 67.74% of its population is white, and 20.93% is Black.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Marco Rubio may become the nations most anti-LGBTQ+ secretary of state ever
President-electDonald Trumphas named Sen.Marco Rubio(R-FL) as his choice for secretary of state, even though the two once traded barbs as political rivals during the 2016 Republican presidential primary. While Rubio has primarily served as a legislator for his home state of Florida, he has unwaveringly maintained anti-LGBTQ+ policy stances throughout his political career. He has said it is the duty of Christians to oppose the ruling. He has also said he doesnt believe that the U.S. Constitution gives the federal government the right to regulate marriage, the laws of which have traditionally been determined by states. There is no way that you can read that Constitution and deduce from it that there is a constitutional right to an abortion, or a constitutional right to marry someone of the same sex, Rubio said.InJuly 2022, Rubio said marriage equality is not a real issue (despite U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas saying that marriage equality should be overturned). Hevoted against the Respect for Marriage Act, a law requiring states and the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages. He reportedly called the law a stupid waste of time.Marco Rubio told me that he is a NO on Houses same-sex marriage bill, calling it a stupid waste of time Manu Raju (@mkraju) July 20, 2022 Trans children in sportsRubio supports the so-called Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, a law that would require schools, colleges, and universities athletics programs to determine a participants sex based solely on a persons reproductive biology and genetics at birth. In January 2024, Rubio sent a letter to USA Boxing for allowing biological men to fight biological women, a reference to the organizations policy of allowing trans women to compete with cisgender women. He dishonestly stated that sports organizations trans inclusive policies compel athletes who identify as trans to undergo dangerous and irreversible surgery that sterilizes them for life.During his 2022 re-election campaign, he ran transphobic ads accusing his opponent Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) of voting to allow transgender youth sports. His claim was based on Demings support of the Equality Act, legislation that would add sexual orientation and gender identity to pre-existing federal civil rights laws. The act would enshrine the rights of trans people to participate in school sports. Transgender access to public bathroomsWhen asked by the Catholic News Service whether biological males should be permitted to use the womens room in federal facilities and parks around the country, Rubio responded, No, I think mens bathrooms are for men and womens bathrooms are for women. He has also criticized the administration of President Joe Biden for requiring federal contractors to allow trans employees to use bathrooms matching their gender identity. What Americans are focused on: high prices, mass migration, and anti-American chaos on college campuses. What the Biden Administration is focused on https://t.co/DmMltrUN8W Senator Marco Rubio (@SenMarcoRubio) April 30, 2024Dont say gay/LGBTQ+ discussions in schoolsRubio has defended Floridas Dont Say Gay law which prohibits the teaching of LGBTQ+ issues in public schools. We dont send kids to school so the schools can raise our kids, Rubio said. We send them so they can teach them; raising kids are the job of parents and families, not schools. And so thats what that bill does. Gender-affirming care for trans youthRubio opposes gender-affirming care for all transgender individuals regardless of age. Towards this end, he supported theProtecting Conscience in Healthcare Actto prohibit federal or state government agencies and covered entities, such as hospitals and health clinics, from requiring employees to recognize the existence of trans people or assist in the provision of gender-affirming care.It is deeply disturbing to see the progressive left infiltrate the American healthcare system and compromise the quality of patient care in the process, Rubio wrote in September 2023.Additionally, he has called gender-affirming care harmful to children and claimed that it undermines the legitimate role parents must play in the health of their children. It is irresponsible and malicious to recommend these procedures to young people, Rubio wrote in March 2023. Discrimination protectionsRubio opposes the Equality Act, legislation that would enshrine LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination protections into federal law. He also opposed President Barack Obamas Executive Order 13672, which prohibited anti-LGBTQ+ workplace discrimination among companies doing business with the federal government. Rubio said the order required organizations to violate the tenetsof their faith, by requiring them to treat queer employees fairly and with respect. There are many government contractors and small companies who provide services to the government who are faith-based people, and they are, they are being compelled to sin by government in their business conduct, Rubio said. That is not something we should be supporting. Same-sex adoptionRubio supported Floridas now-defunct ban on same-sex couples adopting. Some of these kids are the most disadvantaged in the state, Rubio said a 2006articlein theTallahassee Democrat. They shouldnt be forced to be part of a social experiment. The states ban was overturned in 2010. Other LGBTQ+ issuesIn February 2023, Rubio and Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) introduced a bill to ban transgender people from serving openly in the U.S. military. He also got a U.S. Air Force base to cancel a Drag Queen Story Hour event that was scheduled for the bases library in honor of Pride Month.Rubio has spoken at least twice to groups that support so-called conversion therapy, attempts to change peoples sexual orientation or gender identity. Nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of State. Rubios anti-LGBTQ+ policies may soon affect the worldIf Rubio gets confirmed by the Senate as Trumps Secretary of State, he will wield tremendous power by essentially signaling to other countries that the U.S. will tolerate anti-LGBTQ+ civil rights violations. This will endanger queer people and their allies and empower far-right and authoritarian political forces that may also work in the long-term against U.S. interests.Related links: Related Clueless Marco Rubio is outraged that LA Dodgers honored drag nuns The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are getting an award after decades of charity work, and Marco doesnt understand why.
