WWW.UNCLOSETEDMEDIA.COMSex Columnist Dan Savage on Non-Monogamy Today and the White Lotus Incest StorylineSubscribe nowSex, love and romance have historically been viewed through the lens of monogamy, with any hook-up outside of your primary relationship seen as the ultimate sin. But in recent years, these norms have started eroding: According to a 2023 survey, 34% of Americans describe their ideal relationship as not entirely monogamous. In addition, the youngest generation of adultsGen Zare having less sex and fewer one-night stands than their millennial counterparts. This is all occurring at a time when more people than ever are identifying as something other than straight and when pop culture is pushing the envelope on sexual storylines, including plotlines of sibling incest on White Lotus and Monsters. To make sense of all of this, we called up legendary sex columnist and LGBTQ activist Dan Savagewho coined the term monogamishto get his take on all things sex in America in 2025.Watch the full interview above or read the transcript here:Spencer Macnuaghton: Hi, everyone. I am here with Dan Savage, American sex columnist, journalist, LGBTQ activist, and the host of the very popular podcast Savage Lovecast. Dan, thank you so much for chatting with me and Uncloseted Media today.Dan Savage: Thank you for having me.Photo courtesy of Dan Savage.S.M.: Well, I want to get started right away with a question I'm super personally curious about. You kind of coined the term monogamish. How would you describe the state of monogamy in America in 2025? Where are we at with it? Obviously, it's evolved.D.S.: More people are, I think, moving toward what gay men have always done. For gay male couples, monogamy's always been an opt-in. It's been an active choice and not a default setting. It was something that was discussed and chosen by the couple. And it could be unchosen; it could be renegotiated. But now you see more straight people thinking about monogamy and choosing it if it's right for them in the same way that monogamy as a choice had been right for other gay couples. Those being choices a couple makes together. That choice can be renegotiated over the life of a relationship. And what works for you in the first few years, the first 5 years, the first 10 or 20 years, may not be what works for you 20 years in as a couple. You may choose something else along the way.Gay people who were in open relationships tended to be out about it because you couldn't be gay without being out about something that was hard to talk about. And that might upset some people. And then everything else about your sexuality after you come out as gay just feels less scary. You know, these things that for straight people often feel like mountains, for gay people feel like molehills. But as more gay people came out, and more straight people got to know gay people, what straight people saw was that our relationships [and] our sex lives were organized differently and more actively chosen, that we didn't just default to settings around sex roles, gender roles, gendered expectations, housework, child-rearing straight people began to look at gay couples, look at gay relationships, look at the gay people that they knew and modeled their relationships a little more closely after ours.A lot of the gay men that I know who say they're in monogamous relationships, when I drill down with them, I think, Oh, no, that's monogamish. That's monogamous with some squish. And it was a word I coined early in my relationship with my husband, Terry. We've been together 30 years. We were monogamous for the first four. And then we were non-monogamous. And when we started being honest about being not monogamous, 26 years ago and we were new parents and we were honest about it. Straight people, friends and even other gay people would make an assumption about the amount of sex we were having with other people and whether we were even having sex with each other anymore. And at that stage in our relationship when either of us were having sex, it was usually with each other and very rarely with a very special guest star. And we were more monogamous than not. And that's when I came up with monogamish to describe these relationships that exist as the primary commitment that, you know, it's mostly just the two of these people who have sex with each other. And then every once in a while, there's some allowance for outside sexual contact by mutual agreement, but it's very minimal.S.M.: In your years of looking at this, talking to people about the idea of monogamy, are there any hard and fast rules for people watching this who might be considering it where youre like, These are the things Ive noticed work in non-monogamous relationships? Because people have really strong opinions on whether or not non-monogamy can even work.D.S.: Which is insane when you consider the divorce rate, when you consider serial monogamy. It's not like non-monogamy is chaos and monogamy is stability and nobody in a monogamous relationship has ever been dumped, divorced, or cheated on.What makes a relationship work, monogamous or non-monogamous, is honesty, communication, accommodation, and some allowance for human failure. I'm always saying to people in monogamous relationships that if you're with somebody for 50 years and they cheated on you twice, they were really good at monogamy. It's insane to define [romantic relationships as just monogamous], and the only definition of success is flawless, perfect execution over five decades. That's a standard we apply to no other human endeavor. People fall down. And if you want your monogamous relationship to be resilient and survive an infidelity, which is common in monogamous relationships, you need to have a framing of your monogamous relationship where it could survive that.I'm always saying to people that if you define cheating as unforgivable, and then you define everything as cheating, then your relationships are not gonna survive for very long. When it comes to stability in a long-term committed relationship, you want to have a very narrow definition of cheating. You don't want lots of things to count so that you don't wind up feeling like you have to break up over and over again. Because, [for example], your partner liked somebody's photograph on Instagram, which I keep seeing held up as evidence of an infidelity, which is just insane.Subscribe for LGBTQ-focused journalism. S.M.: And I remember, it was about 10 years ago, it was one of my first journalistic articles, it was a big deal for me, I wrote an article in The Guardian and the headline was How Gay Men are Making Open Relationships Work, and the research then at least showed that it's gay men who were doing this, not as much same-sex couples that are women. Is that still the case today? And how do you explain that?D.S.: You can't have this conversation without tiptoeing into generalizations about four billion people on the one hand and four billion people on the other. But there are differences between male and female sexuality, and you see those play out in the differences between gay male sex cultures and relationship cultures and lesbian sex cultures and relationship cultures. The relationships most likely to be monogamous are lesbian relationships. The relationships less likely to be monogamous are opposite-sex relationships or straight relationships. The least likely to be monogamous are gay male relationships. Paradoxically, the people who are least likely to divorce are gay male couples; more likely are straight couples, and most likely are lesbian couples. So non-monogamy correlates and may have a causal relationship with relationship stability, and not what everyone assumes it's gonna correlate strongly with, which is relationship instability. I cant remember the name of the sex researcher, I quote her in one of my books, but she said, Every monogamous relationship is a disaster waiting to happen.S.M.: Do you believe that?D.S.: Kinda. Yeah, especially if that couple is unrealistic about what cheating is and means. When Terry and I became parents, we were monogamous. And one of the things we had to talk about was, before I was comfortable doing the adoption of our son was, What happens if one of us cheats? And Terry's attitude was, If you cheat on me, it's over. And my response was, Then we shouldn't do this. Not because I'm gonna cheat on you, not because I plan on it, but that could happen. And so if our default, if that should happen, is the relationship ends, we're adopting a child into a home that has a very shaky foundation. I get uncomfortable saying this because I know tons of insanely horny women who like casual sex and sex is external for them in a way that it can be for men, but men tend to have higher sex drives than women do. Sex is potentially much more consequential for women, for assigned female at birth persons, because the risk of pregnancy, the risk of STI transmissions are higher and the potential consequences are greater, and then you have to factor into that the risk of male violence and males being stronger than females and how much bigger a threat that is for women which all ups the opportunity costs of impulsive sexuality or casual sex for women.S.M.: How about straight people getting in the mix on non-monogamy? Because I have a lot of straight friends who are doing the 2.1 kids, the monogamous relationship, buying the home, that kind of thing, which I kind of almost equate to being old school now in 2025. So what's changing now when it comes to straight people and being a little bit more open-minded when it comes to non-monogamy?D.S.: The straight lifestyle was marriage, monogamy, children. And that was straight to the extent that gay people were excluded from that. But also straight people were under incredible pressure to marry and have children whether they wanted to or not, especially women for all of recorded human history. What you see now is lots of straight couples now leading the quote-unquote gay lifestyle of multiple partners, not settling down. And I think this is fascinating.S.M.: A lot of couples might be thinking right now, Hey, I want to explore opening up my relationship. I don't know how to broach the subject. What's your advice to couples who might be thinking, I kind of want to have the conversation, but I'm too afraid to do it?D.S.: Early in the relationship, you should have the conversation. It's hard 15 years in to retroactively have the conversation about your expectations, especially if you just defaulted to the assumption that love means monogamy and monogamy means love. I think people should say at the start, like, We're monogamous. We're choosing monogamy. We can talk about this down the road if we need to, right? Life is long, and what matters to you very much at the start might not matter to you at all 20 years in. But how do you have that conversation? You just risk it. But you can't un-have that conversation. If your partner feels betrayed because you would even want to have sex with somebody else ever under any circumstance, you can't un-make that. We're told this lie that if you're in love, you're not going to want to fuck other people. And so not only should a monogamous commitment come easy, we shouldn't even have to make it if that's how it actually worked. The monogamous commitment comes into force and matters when there is desire to fuck other people, the impulse, the temptation. That's when you have to honor the monogamous commitment. That's when it's will, thats when its meaningfulit's a sacrifice. And monogamous people would be more satisfied in their relationships if they could recognize the sacrifice and honor it and take the win that it is. I know a lot of people identify as monogamish who don't have sex with other people. They just use that to describe that they are monogamous but they recognize that, of course, there is desire for other people, crushes on other people, attractions to other people. And if you can allow for that, you're going to make your relationship much more stable.S.M.: I want to pivot to Gen Z a little bit. Studies indicate that Gen Z is engaging in sexual activities less frequently than previous generations. One survey found that about 40% of young adults had no sexual partners in the prior year. Why do you think that is? I find it interesting because I think if Gen Z's becoming more queer and more liberal, wouldn't you expect them to have more sex?D.S.: It is odd. So much has changed. We're isolated now and endlessly entertained now and diverted now in ways we didn't used to be. If you wanted to meet people, you used to have to leave the house. And that process of leaving the house, interacting with people, going places, doing things, gave you the skillset that you needed to negotiate the kind of interpersonal human relationships and connections that could be sexual, that could lead to romantic connections. And with social media's ability to make us think were creating those connections without having to do the work of meeting people and being face-to-face has undermined that skillset. It's also, you know, we live in a culture and at a time where the consequences of putting a foot wrong erotically or sexually in a charged environment can be high, especially for young menand rightly so. Subscribe nowThere's also the tsunami of porn and the ability to get a lot of your sexual needs met, again, without having to leave the house. If I wanted to look at porn when I was 16 years old, I had to go shoplift it. I had to leave the house, and now you don't. And there are people who get their sexual needs met virtually now and derive so much satisfaction from the virtual meeting of their sexual needs that they don't feel particularly motivated to get out there in "meet space" and try to find somebody in that imperfect world. You know, our fantasies are always perfect. Our sexual fantasies, our erotic fantasies, our masturbatory fantasiesthey're always perfect, but they used to be limited to what we could imagine or picture, like the little bit of porn we could get our hands on. And now, with the Internet, they can be fully realized two-dimensionally. And for some people, real-life sex and negotiating real-life sex is not as attractive and is not as satisfying as the perfect two-dimensional virtual sex that they can get online.S.M.: This is a trickier question. I don't know if you've been watching White Lotus.D.S: I have.S.M.: So, you know, White Lotus, obviously season three, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola, they play brothers and there is an incest storyline. And they officially hooked up in the last episode, the brothers. And it was [the shows] highest-rated episode ever with 4.2 million viewers. It broke the internet. Everyone's talking about it. There was also an incest storyline in Ryan Murphy's Netflix series about the Menendez brothers, and I found it really interesting that these are two very conventionally attractive men who are engaging in incest storylines that are breaking the queer internet over an issue that's really taboo and really problematic. So I'm curious what you think about all that as this has almost become mainstreamed and in a way glamorized by Hollywood.Photo: White Lotus season 3D.S.: Incest is the number one search category on Pornhub. There's stepbrother, stepsister porn, stepmother pornhuge genres. What does it tell us that there is this desire for the representation of this kind of transgression? When you drill down on people with incest fetishes, as opposed to actual sexual abuse within families, that kind of incestuous criminal behavior, what you find are people who are like, I have no interest in sleeping with my actual parents or my actual siblings, but there's something sexy about the fantasy of that transgression, about that taboo. When we watched the Menendez brothers, we knew that that was almost like a fantasy projection. And we're watching White Lotus, and it's that too, where Schwarzenegger and the other actor are not actual brothers, but we're seeing represented something that's shockingly transgressive if they were brothers, if they were siblings, which they're not.S.M.: When you think about Mike White and Ryan Murphy, the two most famous gay male executive producers on earth right now, both going for incest storylines among two really attractive men, is there anything irresponsible about that?D.S.: Is there anything irresponsible about it? I dont think that hm. Mike White and Ryan Murphy may be reflecting a trend; they didnt create this trend. There is something about that taboo that appeals to people. And I don't have that. I watched that, and I was repulsed. I could not do what Lachlan does with Saxon in that moment, but there's some part of me that's like, Okay, but it's hot because they're not brothers, and that actor, those actors are like twunk and twink. I can see why it's hot to put them together and create this narrative where they're doing something terrible that's gonna have knock-on effects dramatically and play out in ways that are obviously, I think, gonna be consequential.S.M.: And I guess...D.S.: I don't think a lot of people went homeI don't think a lot of people watched that episode of White Lotus and then jacked their brothers off. I don't think that there is that cause and effect.S.M.: You have two consenting male brothers who want to hook up. Should we see that as a taboo in society?D.S.: I think we should.S.M.: Why?D.S.: I am very pro the-incest-taboo. You know, one of the things you sometimes get thrown in your face when you're arguing for gay rights is like, Hey, if love is love and if two consenting adults And then you'll have the incest fetishists turn on you or show up anonymously in your comments or mentions and say, Okay, so if a dad and a daughter, both over 18, consent, is that okay? And I think there are some taboos I'm comfortable with, because if we were to frame incest as not transgressive, that opens a door to the exploitation within families by sexually damaged people. That opens a door to abuse, and I feel like we need to not blur that line to the extent that we can.S.M.: So I want to hit you with the politics now. There's a ton of transphobia in American society. There's a ton of anti-LGBTQ sentiment right now in American society, and that's led by Donald Trump, thats led by far-right politicians. And I find it interesting because when you look at studies like a 2021 study found that Republican participants showed more rape-supportive attitudes, especially when the perpetrator was a Republican or when the victim was a Democrat. You have a lot of puritanical beliefs, like Mike Johnson watching his son's porn consumption being his accountability coach, and I'm curious if there's any link between far-right sentiment that has to do with this puritanical vibe and the kind of connections to either kink and more extreme sexual desires or, more troublingly, sexual assault, rape culture, that sort of thing. Is there any connection there?D.S.: I think there's a connection around misogyny and sexism and sex roles and gendered expectations, not just around sexual activity and mate selection, but also around expression and this desire, this backlash, and a desire to turn the clock backnot just on LGBT people and other sexual minorities, but on women. I think there's a huge movement, a very troubling movement, to essentially re-enslave women. I think it's bigger than just picking on gay people. I think it's bigger than the attacks on trans people. What is that about besides the kind of biological essentialist idea of what a man should be or a woman should be and how you should be imprisoned by that? And I sound a little bit like the stoned kid in a dorm room right now, but I'm just trying to see the bigger things at work here. They always start with attacking queer people and trans people. The fascist impulse, right-wing authoritarianism, always comes coupled with anti-queer, anti-gay, anti-trans bigotry and policies that are themselves welded to anti-woman and deeply misogynistic attitudes and policies. Homophobia is misogyny's little brother. There's never misogyny without homophobia and homophobia without misogyny.Subscribe for accountability journalism.S.M.: Are there specific things, obviously Roe v. Wade was overturned, but are there specific laws, policies, rights, and freedoms that you're concerned about for women specifically?D.S.: The GOP's agenda for American women are husbands you can't divorce, pregnancies you can't prevent or terminate, and politicians you can't vote out of office. They want to end no-fault divorce, which will trap women in marriages they can't get out of. They've ended Roe v. Wade, and they're coming for birth control. Fringe voices on the right are saying that the amendment to the U.S. Constitution; giving women the franchise, giving women the vote, needs to be repealed, and that if women couldn't vote, we wouldn't see any Democratic elected officials. We'd never have a Democratic president ever again, and it's true. And they're going to go after that. And now, I feel like I'm the only one paying attention to all these calls to strip women of the right to vote, which we've now seen with Trump's executive order on voting, and the bill making its way through Congress where, if there's a discrepancy between your legal name and the name on your birth certificate, it's going to be harder or if not impossible for you to vote. Well, the majority of people whose adult name isn't reflected by their birth certificatenot trans peopleit's married women who took their husbands' names. This is where we're headed.S.M.: Dan Savage, you are so endlessly interesting. I could talk to you for so long, but we're grateful for your time today. Thank you so much for coming on to speak with me and Uncloseted Media today.D.S.: Thank you for having me. WWW.PRIDE.COMWalmart canned 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by a man who thought she was transA cisgender woman Walmart employee who says she was verbally assaulted in the female restroom by a man who mistook her for a transgender woman was fired because she reported the incident to the wrong supervisor and created a security risk.Dani Davis, who is queer, took to social media on March 24 and wrote a post about what she said happened while she was at work. The incident occurred on March 14 at the Walmart in Lake City, Florida. She noted she was a nearly seven-year employee of Walmart and holds several other part-time jobs, including the joy and privilege" of tutoring "special-needs children as requested, describing herself as a hard worker who has never been in trouble. She also describes herself as really tall at just shy of 6'4," adding that "every inch is natural me.Around 8 p.m. on March 14, she wrote that she was alone in a stall in the women's restroom when she heard a man yelling. The voice was much louder than simply someone yelling in from the door. This man was fully IN the restroom, yelling something about transgender women, Davis wrote.Davis said the man yelled he was going to beat" them and was going to protect his wife/girlfriend from them while his wife or girlfriend was pleading with him to stop and leave before he got into trouble.Davis wrote she was scared and froze, not knowing if the man was going to physically attack her.I was the only one in there so it seemed pretty clear that he saw me enter the restroom and he assumed that I am trans because of my height, Davis recalled. It was terrifying and I wish no one else ever had an experience like that. The man eventually left, and Davis was able to leave the restroom and return to her workstation. My immediate supervisor came by and noticed that I was visibly shaken and emotional. After taking a few moments to calm myself down, I told her what had happened. I didn't go home since it wasn't long until my shift was done (10 p.m.), Davis wrote. Less than a week later, I was fired. The reason given for her termination was that she did not report the incident to a salaried management employee and, therefore, created a security risk.I took it to mean that I was the security risk because someone had mistaken me for trans, Davis told the Washington Post.Davis said she was devastated. Because of the anti-LGBTQ+ climate in Florida, she had been planning on leaving the state. But now, she doesn't know after losing the job. She appealed the termination through Walmarts internal review process but was denied. She filed for unemployment insurance but also took her story to Facebook, where it soon went viral.Walmart appeared to acknowledge the error in a statement released to the media. We want our associates to feel safe and supported in their workplace, and we wont tolerate bullying or threats of violence against our associates or customers, Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington said in a statement. Weve reviewed the situation and will be addressing it internally. Weve also made multiple attempts to invite Ms. Davis to return to work, with back pay.Davis received a similar email from Walmart offering reinstatement with back pay, but she told the Post she is unsure if she will accept the offer.I think it would just be a hostile environment to return to, she said.0 Comments 0 Shares 146 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COM50 rare vintage Polaroids capture heady lifestyle of Houston's trailblazing gay throupleMeet Houston's trailblazing throupleA collection of over 9,700 Polaroid photos capturing the lives of a historic throuple from Houston, Texas has been unearthed and they're up for auction. The photos, obtained by Langdon Manor Rare Books, span from 1964 to 1991, and showcase the polyamorous relationship between Jay Hollenburger, Arthur Slaughter, and Gary Grether, affectionately nicknamed JAG. The three all began dating around 1970 when Hollenburger and Slaughter, who had been together since 1961, let Grether into their relationship. The two reportedly stated to each other, I don't love you any less, but I love this man as well. The three lived openly as a gay throuple, as Slaughter was particularly adamant about the importance of being out, believing that society would be more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community if it understood them better. They would often throw elaborate parties, such as the annual 1970s party, Follyball, which combined drag shows with volleyball. The three remained together until Grether and Slaughter died of AIDS in 1990 and 1995, respectively. Hollenburger passed away in September, 2024, and his photos were acquired at his estate sale. Many of the pictures were taken during the three's parties, which archivists know the context for because Hollenburger recorded the date, place, and the first and last names of every person in nearly every photo. They believe that Hollenburger could have possessed over approximately 20,000 photographs.Scroll to see some of the pictures, which will be for sale at the ABAA New York International Antiquarian Book Fair from April 3 to 6 at the Park Avenue Armory.0 Comments 0 Shares 140 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMHeklinas death investigation was fumbled by police for these reasons, protesters sayAfter two years with little progress in the case, supporters and friends of the late drag queen Heklina are demanding justice from the London Metropolitan Police, who they are accusing of homophobia in the investigation into her death. Heklina whose birth name was Stefan Grygelko was found dead by close friends and fellow drag queen Peaches Christ (Joshua Grannell) in London on April 3, 2023, but The Met has yet to reveal the cause of death, although they have said labeled her death as unexpected, the BBC reports. On March 31, protesters carrying signs reading, We Deserve Justice, Not Discrimination, Queer Safety Over Police Power, End Met Police Homophobia Now! and blown-up photos of Heklina walked along the Thames River Embankment and gathered outside of New Scotland Yard, accusing investigators of shirking their responsibilities in the case due to homophobic bias.Sign up for the PRIDE.com Newsletter to get a candid take on whats fresh and fun in LGBTQ+ culture this week!Peaches Christ, LGBTQ+ activist Peter Tatchell, drag queens Cheddar Gorgeous, and Crystal all spoke at the rally that was held in tandem with an event at The Stud in San Francisco where drag queens perfumed and then protestors participated in a candlelit march to nightclub Oasis, which Heklina helped transform into a drag and cabaret club.We feel your sisterly love here in London and we super appreciate it, Peaches Christ told the crowd in London, per the San Francisco Chronicle. This sunshine, this weather today, I feel Heklina is with us and she will be in San Francisco later today.See on InstagramThe police said it apologized to Heklinas family and was working to establish any missed opportunities in the case after reviewing the investigation. The Met has also been accused of keeping information from the family and for taking until January of this year to release the CCTV footage that showed three men leaving the flat where Heklina was found dead and was living at with Peaches Christ at the time of her death. When Heklina died, there was no public appeal for witnesses and it's taken them two years to release the CCTV footage, Tatchell told the BBC. Tatchell joined the rally outside The Met in an attempt to hold the polices feet to the fire."That is an abject betrayal of trust and confidence, and I think the police have to answer those questions and have to start getting serious about finding out how Heklina died, he said, adding that the case was proof that The Met is institutionally homophobic."They're not treating the death of a significant member of our community seriously, they've not done the basics of any proper investigation, Tatchell continued.Drag Race star Crystal (Colin Seymour) echoed this frustration with the police, telling the publication that the handling of the case has been disgraceful. It seems very clear that homophobic bias has influenced the investigation in this case," she said. When Heklinas body was found by Peaches Christ, she was still in drag and found in a compromising position, potentially leading to internal bias coloring the investigation into her death."It paints a very clear picture that if you're a queer person, especially if you're gender non-conforming, and you die unexplained, then the police don't care. It seems to be only through the threat of public action that anything's been getting done with this case, Crystal explained.Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah told the BBC The Met is aware that there is "frustration with the pace of the police investigation."We continue to examine all lines of inquiry in relation to Steven's death and remain steadfast in our determination to establish the facts, she said.0 Comments 0 Shares 152 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMKid Rock roasted by internet after wearing a 'Temu Evel Knievel' outfit to Oval OfficeMAGA supporter Kid Rock is being mercilessly roasted by the internet after showing up to the Oval Office wearing a ridiculous bright red bedazzled suit featuring an American Flag motif. On Monday, the musician stood beside the Resolute Desk as President Donald Trump signed an executive order meant to reign in exploitative ticket scalping and price gouging by making commonsense reforms to how concerts and other live events are priced, The Guardian reports. Not only was Kid Rock sporting a suit more befitting Super Dave being shot out of a cannon, but he was also wearing a white straw fedora, sunglasses, and a gold chain while talking about online ticket bots scooping up tickets before jacking up the price. Anyone whos bought a concert ticket in the last decade, maybe 20 years no matter what your politics are knows that its a conundrum, Kid Rock said.Although ticket pricing is an issue that the Biden administration also tried to tackle, and many people are frustrated by how out of control ticket prices have gotten in recent years, Kid Rock who once shot up cases of Bud Light after trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney became a spokesperson is currently enduring mocking on X (formerly Twitter) over his bizarre choice of attire. People pointed out MAGAs hypocrisy in keeping silent about Kid Rocks outfit after whining that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was being inappropriate by not wearing a suit to the White House, while other people were clearly having fun comparing his sparkly suit to a Temu version of Evel Knievels signature getup. People on social media were really on a roll today, with someone writing that this was a sign that America has officially hit Kid Rock bottom and another person saying Kid Rock looked like the 7th member of the Village People.Keep scrolling to the funniest reactions to Kid Rocks interesting getup! WWW.PRIDE.COMRanking NWSL teams by how gay the name isThe NWSL is one of the gayest sports leagues in the world, with legends like Megan Rapinoe, Ali Krieger, Tobin Heath, and Quinn helping establish the league, and current stars like Christen Press, Marta, Debinha, and Tierna Davidson continuing to lead the way.The league's games are also a haven for queer people, with pride flags, butches, queer kids, and trans support everywhere the eye can see! Going to an NWSL game is basically like going to lesbian heaven. But what fans really want to know is, what team name is the gayest? That's where we come in with our expert analysis! So without further ado, these are all the currently named NWSL teams ranked in ascending order by how gay the club name sounds.15. Chicago StarsSee on InstagramAccording to a social media rumor, the team name was changed from the Red Stars in 2024 due to "new ownership's belief that the team's name had a political connotation they didn't like." We don't know if there's any truth to that rumor, but there is nothing gay about trying to distance yourself from communism.14. Gotham FCSee on InstagramNew York City is pretty gay, but when we hear this nickname we think of Batman, who unfortunately, is very straight.13. Racing LouisvilleSee on InstagramWhile walking fast is definitely gay, we don't know about running. Gay rights aren't a race, we're all trying to get to the finish line together.12. Houston DashSee on InstagramSimilar to Racing, the Houston Dash implies a lot of running and racing, something we're not sure gays are that into.11. Boston LegacySee on InstagramBoston Legacy is definitely gayer than the club's original name, Bos Nation. While Bos Nation was an anagram of "Bostonian," the new name Boston Legacy is an anagram of "Bent Cool Gays."10. Angel City FCSee on InstagramAngels are pretty gay, with most depictions of them traditionally looking like twinks, muscle daddies, gorgeous femmes, or if you're into the biblically accurate type the kind of unspeakable horror that kinky queers love to put on a "hear me out" cake.9. Portland ThornsSee on InstagramFlowers have long been used as a symbol for women's sexuality, and by invoking the "thorns" of a rose, Portland promises its sexuality and womanhood comes with an edge to it. If that's not gay, we don't know what is.8. KC CurrentSee on InstagramThere's nothing more current and now than queerness. The current generation is always the queerest, and so is this team name.7. San Diego WaveSee on InstagramWho doesn't love a nice day at the beach? We know gays sure do!6. Seattle ReignSee on InstagramReign invokes both images of queens and female rulers, and a nice stormy day, two things queer women are known to love. Plus, queers can't resist a good pun!5. Utah RoyalsSee on InstagramGays love Royals! Whether it's the Lorde song, drag queens and kings, pillow princesses, the band Queen, or King Princess, we love our royalty!4. Bay FCSee on InstagramThe Bay Area has been a haven for queers for decades. All you need to do is say the area's name and immediately most people will think of gay culture.3. North Carolina CourageSee on InstagramFor better or worse, it takes a lot of courage to be gay. From fighting for our rights in the '60s and '70s to the battle for marriage equality, to the current attacks on trans youth, we've always needed plenty of courage to keep us going.2. Washington SpiritSee on InstagramOn the original Gilbert Baker Pride flag, the color violet represents "Spirit," so naturally, the Washington Spirit would be one of the gayest team names in the league.1. Orlando PrideSee on InstagramOf course, nothing is gayer than Pride! We name our month after it, it's the flag we wave around, it's what we have in spades. Plus, with those gorgeous purple kits, the Orlando Pride is about as gay as a sports team name can get.0 Comments 0 Shares 165 Views 0 Reviews

NEWSISOUT.COM5 things a trans scientist wants you to know about AITransgender people were no strangers to theheydayof the internet experimenting with AI text to image generation during primarily 2022 and 2023. Trans writers shared about the potentialpromiseof thetechnologyfor producing affirming portraits. The same models, however, researchersfoundalso produced stereotypes and over-sexualization of their depictions of transgender people.Since then, AI use has explodedas have examples of how it fails the LGBTQ+ community. Generative AI has repeatedly beenfoundtobiasagainst LGBTQ folks and other marginalized groups. Research has shown that AI surveillance systems pose aunique threatto the transgender community. In fact, anti-trans and gender critical groups have alreadyusedAI with the intent of excluding and marginalizing the transgender community. There are very few trans people working in and studying AI, leaving the community with limited input and guidance around the technology. To better understand the navigating of technology as trans and queer, the Blade sat down with Eddie Ungless, a queer and transresearcherstudying queerphobia and transphobia in AI models. Here are five things Ungless emphasized that the LGBTQ community should consider when navigating the technology.1: AI isnt necessarily intelligentWhen most people think about AI these days, they think about Chat-GPT or DALL-E. These are essentially, Ungless explains, a system trained on a very large amount of data to identify subtle patterns, and through that, it is able to mimic very particular aspects of human intelligence, like the written word.Mimicking particular aspects of human intelligence does not translate to actual or widespread intelligence.AI is quite good at pretending to be good at language, Ungless says, that has led to a sense that these systems have a human-like intelligence in other regards. For example, Chat-GPT may be able to write human-sounding paragraphs, but the content may not be accurate.Large language models like Chat-GPT are just a sliver of AI technology. Its almost more like a marketing term, Ungless says, referencing a largerline of thoughtin the AI community. Looking back five years, what was considered to be artificial intelligence was social media recommendation algorithms and moderation algorithms, Ungless explains, those arent things people think of as strongly as AI nowadays.2: The trouble is in the dataThere are certain kinds of bias that are now salient to the AI development community, says Ungless. The problem is that AIs are often being trained on enormous amounts of unfiltered data. Ungless explains, we are training these systems on so much data that it is impossible to be confident about what is contained in that data. This is especially true when the data comes from the internet and the content is likely to be disproportionatelyinaccurateorhateful.Developers will take stop-gap measures to try to tame the data, like removing common slurs or testing the final product on common identity terms. What theyre trying to avoid is a scandal, says Ungless. But, Ungless says, even if you attempt to remove large amounts of stereotyping, sexualizing, fetishizing, or offensive data, its still going to creep in and affect your final product.Ungless said that it doesnt have to be the case. They just have to build models differently. Developers are retroactively trying to undo damage that was done by [the model] being trained on the contents of the internet. Ungless asks, why dont we feed our models differently?3: Smaller is often betterDevelopers try to feed AI models as much data as possible, with the thought that more information equals more intelligence. This isnt necessarily the case, says Ungless, especially if the data is coming from the internet.Ungless images AI trained on smaller, more accurate data sets that have had more human input in creating. For example, scientists have used AI technology on specialized data sets to improvebreast cancer detection. Scientists had to be much more diligent about the data going into their models.Part of curating accurate data sets for AI tools in the future, Ungless argues, should be in consultation with marginalized communities affected by the tools. Instead of trying to fix a tool retroactively, including community input would ensure a better product from the beginning.Or, at least, looking into what information is already out there. A good first step would be asking the people who build these systems to reflect more on the normative decisions they make whilst developing them, he says. A lot of decisions get made without due consideration for the impact [or] existing social science research.Plus, there are other benefits to smaller AI models: researchshowsthey are greener. Earlier in 2025, Chinese AI DeepSeek made headlines for being trained onless dataand using less energy.4: Use the tools thoughtfullyLarge language models trained on large swathes of the internet are embedded in many peoples everyday lives at this point. Ungless recommends being thoughtful about what you want to get out of AI. Ungless said it can be a useful technology. I think that it can have convenient uses. I think it can have creative uses, they say, especially for tasks that need automation or are tricky solo. When investigating what the LGBTQ community uses AI for, Ungless has found people use it for things like writing scripts to help explain coming out or experimenting with gender presentation. He acknowledges that this can be useful in tailoring resources but also encourages folks to check out community created resources since they may be more helpful.Beyond the limits to AIs accuracy, Ungless points out that they are to an extent, averaging machines. So when you ask it to produce a letter for a loved one, its not going to be personalized. They encourage everybody to engage more mindfully with AI, and ask questions like Does this task really need to be automated using AI? Could a person do it better? Could a more [low-tech] solution do it well?5: Protect your dataSince AIs data often comes from scraping off the internet, the personal data or intellectual property of anyone, not just the LGBTQ community, should be taken into consideration.Ungless has found that this is especially a concern for LGBTQ creatives. He encourages creators to learn more about how their work may have been used in AI training, pointing users to websites likeHave I been Trained? If creators are making visual content, they can also apply a filterGlazethat protects data from being used in training sets.Ultimately many of these questions will come down to policy. Ungless encourages everyone to engage with the future of AI policy. They urge: As AI gets normalized, I think all should be engaged with ensuring policy makers and regulation keeps an eye on what AI companies are doing.(This story is part of the Digital Equity Local Voices Fellowship lab through News is Out. The lab initiative is made possible with support from Comcast NBCUniversal.)The post 5 things a trans scientist wants you to know about AI appeared first on News Is Out.0 Comments 0 Shares 155 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMThink your privacy is safe on the gay dating apps? This data leak could change your mindIn whats quickly becoming one of the most alarming digital privacy failures of the year, a series of LGBTQ+, fetish, and sugar dating apps have been exposed for leaking troves of sensitive user data and the worst breach yet might be an app called Gay Daddy.Touted on the App Store as a private and anonymous space for gay and bisexual men over 40, Gay Daddy: 40+ Date & Chat was found by Cybernews researchers to be leaking over 50,000 user profiles and more than 124,000 private messages, including locations, names, HIV status, relationship details, and explicit photos. The database was so unprotected that anyone with a little technical savvy could snoop through users most intimate content without restriction.Users expect the app to be discreet, but it is completely the opposite, Aras Nazarovas, a Cybernews security researcher, said in the April 2 report. The leak stemmed from hardcoded credentials in the apps code and a misconfigured Firebase database a back-end tool developers use to manage things like logins and chat features. Gay Daddy also leaked its cloud storage bucket, authentication keys, and other sensitive endpoints, potentially giving attackers long-term access to its users' data. The apps developer, Surendra Kumar, did not respond to Cybernews request for comment, though the leaking database has since been taken offline. Still, the damage may be done especially for queer users in countries where being gay can mean harassment, arrest, or worse. This data leak compromises app users security, allowing threat actors to read private messages and obtain contact lists and location data, said Nazarovas. Not only does this expose individuals to cyber threats, but also to risks of financial, psychological, and even physical harm, particularly given the prevailing stigmas surrounding homosexuality in certain countries. And Gay Daddy wasnt alone. Cybernews also revealed on April 1 that apps like BDSM People, CHICA, TRANSLOVE, PINK, and BRISH many owned by a single developer, Mobile Apps Developers Limited (MAD) were all found leaking private user photos due to similarly shoddy coding practices. In total, more than 1.5 million explicit images were exposed, many of which were shared in private chats or used for profile verification. While none of the leaks directly exposed names or emails, experts warn that open-source intelligence tools like reverse image searches make it possible to identify individuals raising the risk of blackmail, harassment, and outing. As Nazarovas put it to Metro, Images accessed by bad actors could have been used for blackmail and intimidation. Finding out that these images were leaked would likely cause distress, trust issues, as well as other harm to the users mental health. With LGBTQ+ users already vulnerable to targeted attacks, the implications of such a sweeping breach are chilling. At a time when queer lives are increasingly politicized and policed, privacy should not be optional.0 Comments 0 Shares 164 Views 0 Reviews

She recently spoke about what it feels like to represent the U.S. right now when the LGBTBQ+ community is under such heavy attack from the current presidential administration."It's always such an honor to play for this team and to represent this country, but it's kind of hard to grapple with what country am I representing right now? Like am I proud of what our country's doing and who we are?" she told The Women's Game podcast. "And in times like this I think about that more, and how this team has been able to represent out community and been able to push for rights for many different minority groups. That is something that I take with me whenever I put this jersey on is the importance of someone being able to see me in this jersey and say, 'Oh, thats someone like me, and I can do that as well.' WWW.PRIDE.COMPeaches Christ says she's been 'retraumatized' by police investigating drag icon Heklina's deathAlmost two years to the day after legendary drag queen Heklina was found dead, her close friend and fellow queen Peaches Christ still feels traumatized by her death and the lack of answers provided by the London Metropolitan Police Department, who she has accused of homophobic bias.Peaches Christ, also known as Joshua Grannell, was the one who found Heklinas body in a flat the two were sharing together as they prepared for a two-week run of the musical parody Mommie Queerest at the Soho Theatre. While finding her friend dead has left Peaches with emotional scars for which she is still in therapy working to heal it's the lack of real answers that continues to haunt her, Peaches Christ tells PRIDE.Theres the trauma of finding her, which was it was like a horror movie and Ill spare you specific details, but it was horrific, she says. It was bad and then not to be listened to or to be communicated with by the people who are supposed to be giving you answers, who assured you that they would keep you in the loop and communicate with you. It just felt so retraumatizing and created a whole other layer of nightmare to the situation.Heklina, born Stefan Grygelko, was a beloved drag star in San Francisco whose punk aesthetic influenced a generation of drag queens. She was also the co-founder of the Trannyshack drag night at the iconic Stud bar in 1996 and helped transform Oasis into a drag and cabaret club. After years of working to keep Heklinas name in the headlines in the hopes of pressuring the police into action, investigators have finally released new information in the case, but Peaches Christ says she still doesnt have an official cause of death. She was beginning to lose hope that there would ever be progress made in the case it took the police 21 months to release CCTV footage of three unnamed men leaving Heklinas apartment building on the night of her death until a new team of five investigators traveled from London to San Francisco to get more statements. On March 17, London authorities visited Peaches Christ and dropped a bombshell about her friends death. She was told that Heklina had a lethal combination of drugs in her system when she died, but the police still refused to confirm her cause of death. The authorities reinterviewed Peaches Christ and asked for her cooperation in locating people Heklina had slept with and done drugs with who might have information that could help in their investigation. They also traveled to visit Heklinas next of kin and executor of her estate, Nancy French, to speak with her and retrieve Heklinas iPhone, which Peaches Christ alleges the police had in their possession two years ago, but never unlocked despite being told that Heklina had been setting up dates Grindr shortly before her death.Heklina had no shame about her casual sex life, its something she talked about on stage, she says. "I knew what was going on, its why I went and stayed at a hotel [on the day of her death]. I didnt want to be there while my friend was hooking up.Just a few days after the London police came to California, Peaches Christ, still determined to get more answers, was in London leading a protest against the polices alleged homophobic bias in Heklinas case. The idea of the protest was to call attention to the case of Heklina, but just as important was to create change, institutional change, so that this sort of homophobic bias wasnt brought to other cases in the future, she says.Peaches Christ has been told that drugs were found in Heklinas system and that there was no foul play, but the fact that investigators have picked up the case again and feel strongly enough about it to fly to the U.S. leads her to believe there is more to the story. If she had a lethal combination of drugs in her system like they say she did, she wonders aloud, then why not just wrap it up? Like why didnt we wrap it up immediately? You would have known that before you cremated her in 2023. So why, if thats how she died? What's going on? Why is there no death certificate?See on InstagramPeaches Christ felt from the very beginning that Heklina being part of the LGBTQ+ community and a drag queen meant that her case was never taken seriously. It took 10 months of unanswered emails and phones calls before an anonymous source from inside the Westminster morgue told her that there was a coverup taking place and that there was still disagreement over Heklinas cause of death.Stranger still, Peaches Christ alleges that in a Zoom meeting, investigators told her and French that the police officer first assigned to the case had a conscious or unconscious negative bias.So that was the point where I was like, 'Oh wow, theyre saying its homophobia,' she says. While in London for the protest to demand more action in Heklinas case, where fellow drag queens and activists marched holding signs reading, We Deserve Justice, Not Discrimination, Queer Safety Over Police Power, and End Met Police Homophobia Now, the police asked Peaches Christ to provide a new DNA sample (she previously provided one to rule her out of samples they collected from the scene) because the old one had expired. Combine that with the fact that the CCTV footage was only released after the press contacted them, and she says it started to look like negligence on the part of the Metropolitan Police. So all of this stuff is just really angering me because it does feel intentional. Its either extremely sloppy or just truly intentional negligence, Peaches Christ says, explaining that she thinks the police only started to act once they found out she is well known in the drag world.I think before they just thought I was just some trashy drag queen, who just should go away and leave them alone. And it probably was a mixture of homophobia and probably the fact that were not there, we dont live there, were all the way in California, she says. Two years ago Peaches Christ would have settled for just being provided with a cause of death, but now she wants The Met to be overhauled and homophobic bias to be weeded out so that no other loved ones have to go through what she has. She explained that in her experience, being LGBTQ+, using drugs, and having casual sex means that the cops will treat your case like it doesnt matter. My hope is that maybe we can move the dial and change their viewpoint on us institutionally so that they see us as human beings and treat us like people in the future, Peaches Christ says. My really big hope is that the terrible, terrible service that Heklina has received from these folks by us blowing it up and getting angry maybe itll change the next time they get a case like this.0 Comments 0 Shares 140 Views 0 Reviews
