Most Americans think ICE was not justified in killing Renee Good
A majority of registered U.S. voters do not believe that ICE agent Jonathan Ross was justified when he shot queer mother Renee Good to death in Minneapolis last week.A Quinnipiac Poll found that 82% of registered voters had seen a video of Good being shot. 53% of respondents said that the shooting was not justified, while 35% said it was, and 12% had no opinion. Democrats (92%) were more likely to say it wasnt justified, compared to Republicans (10%). Most independents (59%) also thought it wasnt justified.Men were more likely to say that the shooting was justified than women, but even a plurality of men (44%) said it was not justified, and a smaller percentage (42%) said it was justified. 61% of women said it was not justified, compared to 30% of women who said that it was justified. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem all face poor approval ratings. 57% of registered voters do not approve of ICEs enforcement of immigration laws, with 94% of Democrats disapproving and 84% of Republicans approving (64% of independents disapproved). 52% of respondents disapproved of Noem, and only 36% approved of how she is doing her job. Again, the divide was partisan, with independents more closely following Democrats; 85% of Democrats and 57% of independents disapproved, while 77% of Republicans approved. The poll was conducted from January 8 to 12 and involved 1133 registered voters nationwide.Video of Goods death spread online last week and over the weekend, with the administration releasing cell phone footage of the shooting that showed Ross firing three bullets at Good as she drove past him.
