Family of queer woman killed by ICE agent requests non-violence for meaningful change
The extended family of Renee Good, the queer women recently shot to death by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, requested privacy, protection, and care for Goods three surviving children and thanked everyone who has spoken out for meaningful change after her death, but added that she wouldnt want violence committed in her name, The Guardian reported.The publication spoke to relatives of Goods late husband, Timmy Macklin Jr., the father of her youngest son. Macklins parents and siblings described Good as an extraordinary mother, devoted, fiercely loving, and always putting her children at the center of the world. She was full of heart and never defined by malice. She was loving, forgiving, and affectionate.Goods former mother-in-law, Charlene Fletcher, said, It feels deeply wrong that Renee died in this way. She had a beautiful voice that everyone should have had the chance to hear. The last thing Renee would have wanted was violence carried out in her name. The familys statement said that all three of Renne Goods surviving children deserve privacy, protection, and care as they begin to navigate life without their mother and thanked everyone who has shown up, spoken out, and held space for the family during this incredibly difficult time.We know Renee would be there too, cheering on those who fight for justice and standing with the people, causes, and community she loved. We hope this inspires accountability, compassion, and meaningful change, the statement said.The family statement didnt explicitly mention ICE, the current presidential administration, or its attempts to depict Renee Good as a domestic terrorist. The statements author, Jessica Fletcher, said she deliberately made its message vague, noting, I dont want to open it up into this huge fight with the opposing side.
