Betty McCollum (D-MN) eventually pulled Craig back to separate them. Related Angie Craig almost lost her son because shes gay. Decades later that fight still fuels her. Craig told WCCO she wanted to discuss Emmers lack of standing up for Minnesotans, after he madeseveral Facebook postson Wednesday defending ICEs actions in the shooting. Emmers posts accused elected officials of endangering ICE agents by spewing lies and hateful rhetoric. Footage shows Democratic Rep. Analysis of multiple videos showing Goods murder, conducted byThe New York TimesandThe Washington Post, showed that the agent was not in the path of Goods vehicle.Im not going to let my Republican colleagues get away with just ignoring the fact that someone,Renee Good, a woman in Minnesota, was killed yesterday because of these political stunts, she told the aforementioned news station. [Emmer] didnt let me get three words out before he went from zero to 60, she added. If you cant have a conversation with someone without it escalating in the first three words, then youre not really ready to have a conversation and youre not listening. And I think thats part of my frustration, is, I want my Republican colleagues to understand and hear me and hear us as Minnesotans that having ICE on the ground in Minnesota is simply not making Minnesota any safer. In fact, its having the opposite effect.Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey echoed Craigs sentiments in a Wednesday press conference, in which he said, I have a message for ICE. To ICE, get the f**k out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite. People are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy, are being terrorized, and now somebody is dead. Thats on you.During a press conference, Gov.Tim Walz(D) called the shooting preventable and unnecessary. [The presidential] administrations dangerous, sensationalized operations are a threat to our public safety, Walz continued. What were seeing is the consequences of governance designed to generate fear, headlines, and conflict. Its governing by reality TV. And today that recklessness caused someone their life. The White House has claimed that Good was part of alarger, sinister left-wing movement that has spread across our country. However, her own mother has challenged this claim, noting that her daughter never attended any anti-ICE protests.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
