Niecy Nash-Betts at Out100: LGBTQ+ visibility needed 'at a time like this'
Niecy Nash-Betts is the 2025 Out100 Icon of the Year. And in her acceptance remarks for this honor, the All's Fair star made a point to thank the LGBTQ+ community and underline the need for visibility "in a time like this."I am so honored to be the Out100 Icon of the Year, baby! she said in a recorded speech played Friday at the Los Angeles gala celebrating 2025's most impactful LGBTQ+ changemakers. I am so sad I cant be there with you guys tonight, but I had to work. And as you know, it is so important to keep showing up on these sets because representation matters, especially at a time like this, OK? Can mama get an amen?Unfortunately, Nash-Betts was unable to be present at the Out100 due to a scheduling conflict with a production. But in her remarks, she thanked Out, parent company equalpride, and each and every one of you for showing up, for living, and for loving out loud. Thank you, I love you, keep being great!"Nash-Betts was named Icon of the Year due to her commitment to representation onscreen and off. Nash-Betts has graced television screens for years from her breakout moment in Reno: 911, to Ava DuVernays critically acclaimed When They See Us, to Ryan Murphy projects such as Scream Queens and Dahmer, which helped her nab her first Primetime Emmy Award in 2024. The actress is continuing to make a splash in Murphys hit new Hulu series, Alls Fair, alongside Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and Naomi Watts, which centers on a women-run law firm.Nash-Betts surprised the world amid the pandemic when she announced in 2020 she had married her "hersband," Jessica Betts, after previously publicly dating only men. Ever since she revealed her marital status, Nash-Betts has been shouting from the rooftops how proud she is part of the LGBTQ+ community, most recently touting on the All's Fair press tour her status as the "Queer of the Year."At the 2025 Out100, presented by Lexus, Kathy Griffin was also honored as the Advocate of the Year.
