Kevin Spacey says he lost his house & nearly went bankrupt since being accused of sexual assault
Kevin Spacey says his financial situation is not great in the wake of the accusations of sexual assault that effectively ended his career eight years ago.In a fawning profile published in The Telegraph this week, the 66-year-old actor claims he lost his Baltimore, Maryland, home because the costs over these last seven years have been astronomical. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Several men, including out actor Anthony Rapp, alleged that Spacey had sexually harassed or assaulted them as children or teens, offenses that allegedly took place as far back as the 1980s. A court laterfound Spacey not liablefor damages sought by Rapp. All the other U.S. charges against Spacey were either dropped by prosecutors, dismissed by courts, or withdrawn by his accusers.In 2020, Spacey was ordered to pay $31 million to MRC, the studio that produced House of Cards, for allegedly violating its sexual harassment policy after crew members accused the actor of sexual misconduct. Spaceys appeal to have the $31 million payment overturned was denied on August 4, 2022. A 2017 investigation by London theater The Old Vic, where Spacey served as artistic director from 2005 to 2011, turned up 20 allegations of abuse or misconductagainst the actor. Following the theaters investigation, multiple criminal and civil proceedings against Spaceybegan taking place in various jurisdictions. In 2023, a British jury found Spacey not guilty of nine counts of sexual assault after four men accused him of forcing himself on them between 2001 and 2013. Nine additional men accused the actor of sexual misconduct in a two-part documentary that premiered last year.Spacey has appeared in several films produced outside the U.S. in recent years and has recently performed a one-man cabaret show in Cyrus, Greece. But he has been largely shunned by Hollywood.I feel Im back to where I first started, which is I just went where the work was. Everything is in storage, and I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that Ill be able to decide where I want to settle down again, he told The Telegraph.
