Far-right host bizarrely praises Trump boat strike because it has nothing to do with transgender
Right-wing Newsmax correspondent Greg Kelly celebrated the Trump administrations recent strike of an alleged drug smuggling boat in the eastern Pacific and bizarrely said one of the best parts is that it has nothing to do with transgender. This is an awesome thing to do with the military, Kelly said as he showed footage of dozens of boats being blown up. According to MSN, at least 66 people have been killed since the administration began the strikes, which many Democrats and legal experts have slammed as violations of both national and international law. Criminals are civilians, former International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampotold the BBC last week. They are criminals, and we should do better at investigating them, prosecuting them and controlling them, but not killing people.Kelly, on the other hand, praised the acts as totally legal, pure, and good. He then went on to baselessly blast Joe Biden for ignoring the drug crisis because he was too obsessed with trans rights. We looked it up, Kelly said. Joe Biden talked more about transgender garbage in the last year of his administration than he did about drugs and opioids, right? Its not clear what exactly Kellys team looked up, as there likely isnt data specifically comparing Bidens comments on drugs versus trans rights. Republicans have continued to accuse Democrats of being obsessed with trans rights to the detriment of other critical issues, despite the fact that it is Republicans who cant stop talking about trans people.Kelly then showed footage of Biden visiting a gay bar as proof he didnt care about the opioid crisis.I mean, talk about a pandering, strange individual to blow off the opioid crisis, to go to a bar, which I dont think, you know. I mean, do we really need more drinking in America? The Biden administration did, in fact, prioritize Americas opioid crisis. The administration launched the HHS Overdose Prevention Strategy in 2021, and on May 15, 2024, then-U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra announced landmark progress in the battle against the drugs. When President Biden took office in January 2021, the overdose death rate was increasing 31% year-over-year, Becerra said. Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that drug overdose deaths fell 3% over the past yearthe first decline in more than five years.Monthly provisional data released from the CDC shows that drug overdose deaths are continuing to fall, an administration memo explained in response to the data, The latest provisional data from the CDC released this month shows a 16.9% reduction in overdose deaths in the 12-months ending July 2024, which is the largest recorded reduction in overdose deaths and the eighth consecutive month of reported decreases in predicted 12-month total numbers of drug overdose deaths.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
