JB Pritzker tells Donald Trump to f**k all the way off
Footage from a speech last month by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) has recently gained traction on social media for his bold, unapologetic words against Donald Trump.President Trump and his bootlickers have torn down the U.S. Dept. of Education from the inside, Pritzker told the Illinois Federation of Teachers on October 19. Instead of helping to improve math and reading scores like you all are doing and supporting our educators, theyre making it harder for students to get ahead. Related Trump mocked for apparently making up a Democrat to get mad at Books are being banned. History is being erased. Republicans want to take billions away from public schools and pump it into private institutions. The crowd booed. They want to punish teachers for telling the truth, Pritzker continued. This is how you call out fascism, journalist Brian Allen posted on social media, along with a clip of the moment.Pritzker has made it clear sinc Trumps first term that he is not afraid of the former reality TV star. He has stood strong for his progressive values and expressed determination to protect marginalized communities in the state.Recently, he has been speaking out vehemently against the Trump administrations assault on the city of Chicago, in particular the vicious and racist behavior by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, which has made many Hispanic people terrified to leave their homes. In October, he made it clear he is not afraid of the president. When asked on ABC about Trumps recent Truth Social Post calling for him and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) to be jailed for failing to protect the ICE officerswho have been terrorizing the city, Pritzker responded, Am I afraid? I am not afraid As Ive said before, come and get me.His words echo what he said about the threat during an interview on MSNBC, during which he called Trump unhinged, insecure, and a wannabe dictator. And theres one thing I really want to say to Donald Trump, Pritzker said. If you come for my people, you come through me. So, come and get me. He has also stood staunchly for LGBTQ+ rights. In August, he announced a landmark free hotline for LGBTQ+ people in Illinois. Offered in both English and Spanish, the first-of-its-kind service provides legal advice regarding housing, safety, health care access (including gender-affirming care), discrimination, identity documents, and more.At a March Human Rights Campaign dinner, hevowed to stand upto anti-LGBTQ+ bullies and spoke directly to transgender youth to tell them they are not alone. I know that there are transgender children right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist, he said. Well, I am. We are. We will. In April,he criticizeddo-nothing Democratic politicians who want to blame our [election] losses on our defense of Black people, of trans kids, of immigrants instead of their own lack of guts and gumption. He encouraged Democrats to fight the current presidential administration everywhere and all at once, even endorsing mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. In 2023, hesigned a landmark billmaking Illinois the first state to bar libraries from banning books. Here in Illinois, we dont hide from the truth, we embrace it,said Pritzker in astatement.Young people shouldnt be kept from learning about the realities of our world; I want them to become critical thinkers, exposed to ideas that they disagree with, proud of what our nation has overcome, and thoughtful about what comes next.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
