Chrishell Stause leaves Selling Sunset, says her style will 'probably become more gay'
Chrishell Stause announced in an interview with Bustle on Friday that she will be leaving Selling Sunset after nine seasons. The Netflix reality star and 2025 Out100 honoree told the publication that she "vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past" and said, "I have to be honest having come from nothing, its really hard to turn something like this down. This past season seemed to be the toughest for Stause, who, over the seasons, had found herself in the middle of arguments with almost every one of her castmates. But not even pressure from the show's producers nor the show's creator himself, who she said has been calling and texting her nonstop, could get her to come back for a 10th season. "Ive gotten to a place where I dont need the show financially," Stause told Bustle. "Im lucky to have other forms of employment, because its no longer good for my mental health.Selling Sunset was the backdrop for Stause's personal coming out story. After breaking up with costar Jason Oppenheim at the end of season 5, she announced in that season's reunion that she was dating nonbinary rockstar G-Flip. The couple got married in 2022 and is working on starting a family together. One of Stause's biggest issues with this current season is the editing and the omission of crucial context, she says, "I get it, they want to make a light show. And if I was doing a show with less problematic people, I can totally see their point." But it was time for her to go, she explains, "I have no ill will toward the show. The show has given me so many opportunities, and I dont want to be bitter about it, even though Im leaving not in the way that I wouldve loved.Since appearing on the show, Stause has made appearances on a number of reality shows, including the wildly popular game show The Traitors, Dancing with the Stars, and Bling Empire. After wrapping up her time on the show, she does promise that she will be leaning into a more queer aesthetic, promising that her style will "probably become more gay."
