Out comedian Bowen Yang portrayed Republican fraudster George Santos on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Yangs incarnation of Santos appeared after Colin Jost, the co-host of the sketch comedy shows Weekend Update news segment, mentioned that the annual New York Marathon (held on Sunday) would bring more than 50,000 runners from over 100 countries. To comment on the occasion, Jost then introduced the worlds number one marathoner oh, cmon George Santos. Yangs Santos asked, wrapped in a foil blanket (something marathon finishers often do to prevent hypothermia). When Jost pointed out that the marathon wasnt until the following day, Yangs Santos said, Yeah, well, its a record I already won!Jost then said that Santos hadnt won and added that Santos has been conducting a media comeback tour since the president commuted his prison sentence. Yangs Santos then said, Prison was crazy, and tried to depict his time there as being a contestant on the reality dating series Love is Blind. When Jost asked him how much he had lost, Yangs Santos said, I gained 50 pounds and now I only tell the truth.When Jost replied, Well, it sounds like youre still a liar, George, Yangs Santos accused Jost of being a liar, just before revealing that he had stolen Josts wallet from underneath the anchormans desk. The joke may have been an allusion to the real-life Santos illegally using the credit card and funds of his campaign donors, which were among the crimes that landed him in prison. Well, anyway Colin, Im going on all these shows to tell the truth about what it was like inside prison, Yangs Santos then said, revealing that he was in a minimum security facility with other white-collar criminals even though Im Black. When Jost noted that Santos is not Black, Yangs Santos said, Wow, are you accusing me of lying about my race, like Rachel Dolezal, that horrible woman who lied about being Black? Remember her? Because that was me.During the segment, Yangs Santos interrupted the conversation by taking several calls on a prison telephone from infamous prisoners, including Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein; disgraced rapper Sean Diddy Combs; and my favorite twunk murderer Luigi Mangione.Yangs Santos also claimed that his fellow prisoners loved his rice pudding recipe, which requires first pre-heating the prison toilet to 350 degrees. He also claimed that he is now very rich after a recent trip to the Louvre art museum in Paris, lowering his shirt collar to reveal a sparkling necklace (a reference to the jewelry heist that occurred there last month). This is at least the third time that Yang has portrayed the infamous former congressman on Saturday Night Live. During the shows 2023 season opener, Yang portrayed Santos during a skit about the Super Bowl where Yangs Santos announced that he was proud to be the first African-American quarterback to ever dunk a football.After U.S. House members expelled the real-life Santos from his congressional seat, Yang reprised his portrayal, proclaiming, Everyone, stop assaulting me. Im being assaulted. This entire country has been bullying me just because Im a proud, gay thief. But what else is new?
