French first lady Brigitte Macrons pursuit of conspiracy theorists who claim that shes transgender entered a criminal court in Paris on Monday in a case against 10 people accused of promoting the unsubstantiated rumor.The trial follows a defamation lawsuit filed in the United States by Macron and her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, at the end of July, in connection with the same claims promoted online that Brigitte Macron was assigned male at birth. Eight men and two women, aged 41 to 60, are accused of cyber-harassment targeting the first lady.The French first lady filed a complaint against the defendants in August 2024, leading to an investigation into her cyber-harassment. The women were found guilty of slander in September last year, but an appeals court overturned their convictions based on claims of freedom of expression in July.
