'Golden' goes platinum! NYC Gay Men's Chorus sings 'KPop' to celebrate
The New York City Gay Men's Chorus joined in celebrating the singers behind the animated hit film KPop Demon Hunters on Wednesday, posting a video of its members singing the girl groups newly platinum single, Golden.Earlier this week, the trio of raven-haired songstresses EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, who voice the fictional K-pop group Huntr/x in the Netflix film made their late-night debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they performed the full song live for the first time. The performance, which featured them hyping up the crowd in coordinated, warrior-esque outfits, set the internet ablaze, with fans across social media celebrating the groups well-deserved success. This was accompanied by a touching video that showed the members doing a joyful, choreographed warm-up to the song, in what the post referred to as a chorus-sized tribute. See on Instagram Its far from the first time that the storied ensemble, founded in 1979, has paid homage to the ladies of pop with a special social media shoutout. Just recently, the chorus posted a warm-up in honor of Chappell Roan and a taped performance of Ariana Grandes Heal Me at the Disco. The group also sang a tribute to Out's Tracy E. Gilchrist last year after her "holding space" Wicked interview went viral. But the tradition goes way back, as evidenced by a pinned video at the top of the groups Instagram page, showing an enthusiastic rendition of Paris Hiltons Stars Are Blind.KPop Demon Hunters has made records as a number-one film on Netflix as well as on the Billboard charts for its catchy soundtrack. "Golden," which was cowritten by out songwriter Mark Sonnenblick, has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for consecutive eight weeks, smashing records for an animated film's soundtrack as well as for girl groups.
