Lukas Gage reveals how a shirtless scene cost him 'Mad Men' job
The White Lotus breakout star Lukas Gage has spilled the details on a hilarious story from early in his career!Gage was on Live with Kelly and Mark this week to talk about how new memoir, I Wrote This for Attention. While there, he also shared a story about a shirtless scene from his early acting days that went terribly wrong.When Consuelos asked Gage, whose book comes out on October 14, about his first acting job, Gage said it was a wart removal ad for Compound W. But it was another early acting story that really stood out."I was cast on the last season of Mad Men," Gage told the hosts.Ripa then says she doesn't remember him being on the show. There's a good reason."Well, that's because I got fired," Gage said. "I walk on set, I see Kiernan Shipka, who's now one of my best friends, and they [the crew] see this giant tattoo on the whole side of my body while I'm going to be shirtless, playing a 15-year-old in the 50s."It wasn't working, all odds were against me," he added.When Ripa asked if they could cover it with makeup, Gage said, "It wasn't gonna work," and that they "recast it real quick.""It was like one of the first jobs I got, I bragged to everyone about it, and then they said, 'You're going home," he said. "But, if I didn't book that job, I wouldn't have booked the next couple things. Everything led to the right place."Gage said that he and Shipka now laugh about it, and she calls him "Tattoo Boy."
