Eugene Levy is once again being a positive role model for fathers of gay children.Fans have loved the father-son team of Eugene and Dan Levy since they co-created and co-starred in the hit sitcom Schitt's Creek. Now, the elder Levy is starring in the Apple TV+ reality series The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, where the actor gets out of his comfort zone and travels around the world. In this week's episode, premiering September 26, Levy opens up about the special moment when his son came out to him. The episode is titled "Hitting the Open Road in Louisiana" and features Levy traveling through the state with guide and creator Will Edmond.In this exclusive clip, Levy and Edmond are sitting around a campfire when Levy asks Edmond when he came out to his father. Edmond says he was 21, and was "very nervous" because his dad "is a very Southern man" and "very religious," and he "didn't know how he was going to take it.""When I told him, I think he was shocked, because I'm his only son, and I'm the oldest," Edmond says. He adds that his father wasn't mad or upset, but he could sense that his father wasn't fully on board at first.Edmond says his mom reminded his dad that "this is your only son, no matter what he does, you'll love him," and that made his dad "instantly change." He then asks Levy how his son's coming out went."We were, I think, well aware that he was gay, but we were just waiting, you know, for the right time for him to feel comfortable enough to tell us," Levy says. "I mean, it was out, and it was a huge thing off the plate for him. And it was fine, it was just like, 'OK, there you go.'""It's good that if somebody's watching this, they'll see men like you and my dad or hearing about my dad and maybe they can accept their kid more, or love them more," Edmond says."That's what it's about. That's the only thing that matters. Love and respect," Levy agrees.New episodes of The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy will premiere weekly on Apple TV+ until the finale on October 31.
