A bruised Guy Branum says he was elbowed on an airplane for being 'too fat'
Comedian and actor Guy Branum is reporting on what it's like to "fly while fat."In a video posted on Instagram last week, Branum, who isn't afraid to speak his mind, opened up about an experience he had on a recent Delta flight with an angry passenger.Branum said that when he has the money, he likes to fly business class, "because I'm a big guy and I don't want to be in anybody else's space." This time, however, he got a comfort plus ticket, which he was worried about. "I've had people freak out at me before," he said. The actor then relayed how he was sitting in a middle seat when a "white guy in his 60s" came down the aisle and started harassing a female passenger "because she was putting something in the overhead compartment near his seat." Then, as soon as the man sat down, Branum said, "he immediately was just pissed off at me." After Branum told his seatmate that he couldn't scoot over any more, the man "elbowed" him "as hard as he could."See on InstagramBranum shared footage he took on the plane, showing the man sitting next to him laughing and smiling."This man elbowed me because he believes that I'm too fat to be sitting next to him," Branum says in the video."Well, who wouldn't believe that?" the man responds, still smiling."Sir, how do you think I should solve this problem?" Branum asks after some back and forth. "Also, let's be fair, you are hardly svelte yourself.""I'm a member of Weight Watchers," the man replies, telling Branum he can "show it" on his phone. "And that is how I lost the weight. Have you ever?""You really think I am a fat person in this country and I have never tried to lose weight?" Branum asks.Branum described how a flight attendant came by, followed by several other people who were asked to weigh in on the disagreement. Eventually, a woman across the aisle switched places with Branum's seatmate, after she was offered airline miles which the comedian requested as well."Fat people shouldn't be waiting for some future moment when we'll be worthy of traveling and living our lives," Branum then said, concluding the video. In a statement obtained by People, Delta Air Lines responded to the incident. "Delta sincerely appreciates the actions of our crew and customers for de-escalating this situation prior to departure," the airline said. "We are in touch with the customer and continue to look into his claims."Branum later showed a bruise on his stomach to TMZ and said he's looking into filing charges. "You can't hit somebody because you think they're fat," he told the outlet.
