Ariana Grande leaned into Glinda's shadiness toward Dorothy for 'Wicked' sequel
Ariana Grande has revealed a piece of insider information about the upcoming Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good, which will introduce new versions of classic characters, including Dorothy Gale. And it's a good reminder that Glinda may be good, but that doesn't mean she's nice.In a new interview with Empire, Grande, who plays Glinda, revealed that she took a particular approach to the dynamic between her character and Dorothy, who audiences are familiar with from The Wizard of Oz. "I love the little bit of shadiness that Glinda has towards Dorothy," Grande said in reference to Glinda's iconic advice for Dorothy, "follow the yellow brick road." "There's a lot going on, and she doesn't really have time to deal with this. She could have told her to take the Emerald City train! But she didn't. That's a little shady, Glinda!" she added. "So I leaned all the way into Glinda sort of having an eye roll for Dorothy whenever she has to deal with her."Grande's costar Cynthia Erivo also weighed in on how Dorothy will be portrayed in the new film, specifically addressing the fact that, although the character' presence will undoubtedly be felt, she will mostly be shown from behind or at a distance."I think that's such a wonderful thing to do," Erivo, who plays Elphaba, told Empire. "Because then everyone gets to keep the Dorothy that they know."Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters on November 21. Watch the teaser below.
