Kristin Chenoweth 'appreciated some perspectives' from Charlie Kirk
Kristin Chenoweth says she "appreciated some perspectives" from Charlie Kirk in an Instagram comment mourning the anti-LGBTQ+ activist's loss."Im. So. Upset. Didnt always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still," the Wicked star commented on the conservative figure's final Instagram post. Kristin Chenoweth's Instagram remarks on Charlie Kirk's killingInstagramThe March 24 post is a video featuring Kirk arguing with a college student over the right to abortion, in which he told the young woman to "take responsibility for your orgasms." The video was shared with the account of Turning Point USA, the right-wing youth organization Kirk founded in 2012 at age 18.Chenoweth also shared an Instagram Story Wednesday from her husband, Josh Bryant, reacting to the death of Kirk: "Such a sad, senseless, and disgusting act! Wow...prayers for the Kirk family and prayers for our nation," Bryant wrote.Kirk died Wednesday at 31 after being shot during an appearance at Utah Valley University in Orem, a killing that has stunned the country and sparked reactions of both sadness and anger. His killer is still at large.A divisive figure and a close confidant of President Trump who did much youth outreach, Kirk, in his 20s, built his Turning Point USA group into a conservative force for student organizing. He often used his platform to dive into the culture wars and, in particular, attack the LGBTQ+ community.Per The Advocate, Kirk "frequently spread disinformation about transgender people and gender-affirming care, painting LGBTQ+ equality as a threat to American culture. In 2022, he even claimed that transgender people were to blame for inflation, a remark widely ridiculed by economists and LGBTQ+ advocates. The following year, Kirk courted outrage when he said that if the January 6 rioters had 'stripped naked and filmed themselves having gay sex,' they would have been treated more leniently, which critics blasted as both homophobic and trivializing of the insurrection."Chenoweth, a gay icon, has taken public stands against anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, particularly through a religious point of view. Earlier this year, she blasted One Million Moms, a right-wing hate group, for boycotting Wicked for its LGBTQ+ agenda. Chenoweth, who had a cameo in the Universal film after appearing in the original Broadway show, called it silliness. (Likewise, she did so in an Instagram comment.)Chenoweth was a cover star of Out's 2025 Pride issue, in which she stressed that God loves LGBTQ+ people. The community has been told that they are going to hell, that no one loves them, when the exact opposite is true. God loves them. In fact, he designed them, she asserts. He designed us, so that what youve been told is exactly a lie. Its the opposite. You are loved, you are cherished, you are wanted, and even if your families dont feel that way, which I know that has happened to a lot of my friends, God feels that way.Out has reached out to Chenoweth for comment.
