'The Bold and the Beautiful' to introduce its first gay couple
CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful is in its 37th year, and it's finally getting its first-ever gay male couple. According to Deadline, Harrison Cone has been added to the cast to play a queer character whose name has not been disclosed just yet. The character is in a relationship with Remy Pryce, who is played by Christian Weissmann. Cone, who has credits on Hacks andThe Summer I Turned Pretty, is set to arrive at Forrester Creations the soap's fictional fashion house on September 16, where he will portray a aspiring designer. The characters are also expected to make history as the first gay male couple to kiss on the show as well.The Bold and the Beautiful is the most-watched soap opera on television, with an audience of over 26 million people. The soap has also collected over 70 Daytime Emmy Awards in its almost 40-year run. But in that time, this year will be the first time this kind of representation will be presented on-screen.This isn't the show's first time depicting queer storylines. Back in 2012, the show introduced its first lesbian couple, Karen Spencer, played by Joanna Johnson, and Danielle, played by Crystal Chappell. The latter was brought on to the show as a friend of Karen's. but the show then revealed that the two were in a relationship.A decade ago, the show also made strides in representation by introducing a transgender character named Maya Avant, portrayed by Karla Mosley. Though the actress who played the trans character is not trans herself, it was still seen as win by the community. She broke boundaries as the first ever transgender bride in TV history and continued to make strides before she exited the show in 2019 after her character was written off.
