Retired 'Survivor' champion Parvati Shallow is ready for the love game
Parvati Shallow answers the phone but puts me on hold. "Sorry, I was saying goodbye to a friend who I was giving divorce advice too," she says. "The process of divorce is so gnarly, it's like playing Survivor a million times... the process sucks so bad, but then you're free on the other side." If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about playing Survivor, it's this woman. We're chatting not too soon after her second Survivor win, this time on Australia vs. The World. After she came out on top, Shallow announced that she would be retiring from the show entirely, after having played five times. "I have no reason to play [the game] ever again," she tells Out. "It's like, how do you know when a marriage is over? You just know. For me, Survivor has been a 20-year love story, and it's reached its natural conclusion." See on Instagram Shallow has already made her rounds on the reality television circuit namely, recently appearing on the second season of Alan Cumming's popular murder-mystery game show on Peacock, The Traitors, and Deal or No Deal Island. The reality star knew going into her last Survivor that it would be her last, citing that the game had changed over the last decade after she played Winners at War back in 2020. "The new era players had all kinds of congregated together to get the old old schoolers out of the game first," she says. "I thought, 'Oh, no one wants to play with me, so I'm not gonna play a game I can't play." But being offered the opportunity to play a 16-day game in an all-stars season with an international cast, she jumped at the opportunity. "All of the life experiences that I have accrued in my lifetime will be on full display in this game," Shallow shared. "It's less about advantages and idols and gimmicks and more about working the social dynamics, trusting your gut, being able to make allies and then, you know, cut people at the right time." There's a reason she's been nicknamed the Black Widow. See on Instagram Her schedule post-Survivor is already filled with book events, workshops, and speaking engagements for her memoir, Nice Girls Don't Win: How I Burned it All Down to Claim My Power. On top of that, she's facilitating a six-week online course called "How Villains Are Made," and it's centered around "helping people overcome people-pleasing, to stand in their power, to own their voice, and to create their life on their own terms," Shallow explains. She is also dipping her toe into the development side of television and getting into hosting.During this period of her life, she's also open to dating. The queer former reality television star is aware of Survivor's LGBTQ+ audience and says she's not on any dating apps. "I will only meet people in person or be set up by people who know me and what kind of person I'm into," she says. "I'm not gonna risk dating any normie fans." But as she's thinking about dating and the conversation comes to a close, there was only one way to end this conversation about love, separation, and spending time apart. Fuck, marry, kill: Survivor, The Traitors, and Deal or No Deal Island."'I'm gonna fuck Traitors because it is so sexy Alan Cumming in all of his gender fluid outfits, it's very dark and dungeon-y," she explains. "I'm gonna marry Deal or No Deal Island. Look, I know it didn't come back for a third season, but that was the most fun I've ever had on a game show. It's very romantic and you got fed, we got whatever snacks we wanted, it was a very lovely experience, and I feel like I would live there. And I'm gonna kill Survivor, we're done."
