After winning an Emmy, Alan Cumming invites Donald Trump to compete on 'The Traitors'
After nabbing his fourth statue at the Emmy Awards last night, the host of The Traitors, Alan Cumming, spoke to reporters backstage in the press room about potential candidates for a fifth season naming one unexpected personality who's caught his eye."I'm sure our president would be very good on the showhaving a lot of chaos and sort of turmoil and treachery, so maybe he'd like to come on and be paid for that, probably better than he gets as president," the beloved actor said in reference to Donald Trump, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But that wasn't Cumming's only political moment of the night. Earlier in the evening, while accepting the award for Outstanding Reality Competition Program in a rare upset for RuPaul's Drag Race, the producer and series host nodded to the state of American politics right now, saying, "It's a difficult time we live in, but it's so great that our show brings a little bit of joy into this life."Trump may not join The Traitors cast anytime soon, but he does have experience in the reality show realm. As viewers of a certain age will surely remember, the current president served as the host and producer on The Apprentice from 2004 to 2015, right before he started his bid for the presidency. While he gave up the job to Arnold Schwarzenegger to pursue politics, he did reference his time as a TV star repeatedly during his campaign, which seems to have paid off among a certain set of viewers. So it's anyone's guess whether or not a return to the medium could be in the cards, at least once his time as commander in chief comes to a close. For now, season 5 of the show that pits conniving celebrities against one another is just a pipe dream, since the release date for season 4 still has yet to be announced. But fans of the show are excited to watch contestants like Love Island's Maura Higgins, RuPauls Drag Race alum Mont X Change, NFL mom Donna Kelce, and Real Housewives star Lisa Rinna battle it out in the picturesque Scottish highlands once the new season does land on Peacock.
