Lady Gaga thrills fans with a full 'Wednesday' of ghoulish releases
Fans were treated to a day full of ghoulish Lady Gaga reveals on Wednesday when the singer dropped the music video for her new single, "The Dead Dance," in tandem with Netflix releasing fresh episodes of its take on The Addams Family. It was announced back in November that Gaga would be joining Jenna Ortega and the rest of the Wednesday crew for season 2 of the series. But the details of her appearance were shrouded in mystery until this week, when first-look images revealed that Mother Monster would be making a cameo as Rosaline Rotwood, a former Nevermore teacher and seer who is brought back from the dead by a desperate, powerless Wednesday. Then, videos of the singer staring down Ortega's pigtailed protagonist in a ghostly getup designed by Colleen Atwood began circulating with the release of the series' four new episodes, prompting feral reactions from Little Monsters across social media. On Instagram, a chorus of fans responded by pleading for Gaga to "read" them next. And on X, users commented on the videos by exclaiming "Mother Monster!" and expressing appreciation for the character's mixture of allure and scares. Back in August, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that "The Dead Dance" which plays in episode 7 of the new season of Wednesday would be accompanied by a music video directed from none other than horror auteur Tim Burton. But fans weren't quite prepared for the visual spectacle of Gaga as a reanimated marionette stalking the Island of the Dolls, a mysterious locale in Xochimilco, south of Mexico City. While social media was suddenly awash with praise for the singer's mastery of the macabre, those tuning in from the U.S.'s neighbor to the south were particularly delighted responding to Gaga's X post promoting the video with monikers like "My Mexican Queen" and celebrating the Xochimilco destination in all its disturbing, doll-covered glory. (@) Lady Gaga appears briefly in episode 6 of the second season of Wednesday, while her new track sets the mood for a dance sequence involving Enid (Emma Myers) and Agnes (Evie Templeton) in episode 7. "The Dead Dance" can also be heard on an extended version of the singer's album Mayhem, which includes two other new songs, "Can't Stop the High" and "Kill for Love."The "Born This Way" singer was also linked to Wednesday's first season, when Jenna Ortega's school dance scene was dubbed with Gaga's "Lady Mary" on social media and went viral. While the song wasn't officially in the show, the moment marked the beginning of Gaga's fandom, said the show's creators.
