Monsoon asks in a clip from her interview on the Good One podcast hosted by Jesse David Fox. "Marvel now has regained the rights to the X-Men. I think it would be a really cool idea to have a trans woman be Mystique."Monsoon adds, "She's my favorite Marvel character of all time, and I relate to her so much. I think a lot of trans people do. Think about how nice it would be: To be able to just blend in and not have everyone pay attention to us if we don't want.""We also relate to the fact that like she's not accepted in her original form. So she has to transition to even walk around people," Monsoon argues. "I texted my agent and I was like, 'I don't know what's going on there, but start please start dropping my name.'"See on InstagramThe Vulture caption for this clip, "LET @thejinkx PLAY MYSTIQUE IN THE MCU WHEN @marvel," says a lot, too.Mystique, a shapeshifting mutant otherwise known as Raven Darkhlme, made her first comic-book appearance in the late 1970s disguised as Sherlock Holmes in issue No. 1 of Marvel Preview. Since then, Mystique has become one of biggest and most popular characters in the X-Men franchise of movies, TV shows, animated series, comic books, and video games. On the big screen, there have only been two live-action characterizations of Mystique. The first was introduced in 2000's X-Men, which led to a trilogy of films in which actress Rebecca Romjin played the shapeshifting mutant. The second live-action portrayal of Mystique was introduced in 2011's X-Men: First Class this time with Jennifer Lawrence playing the character.Even though it's already been confirmed that Romijn is reprising her role as Mystique in the upcoming 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday, many MCU fans theorize that the movie will serve as an overall reset button for the franchise along with its 2027 sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars and will make way for new actors to embody these beloved characters.Monsoon as Mystique? We'll be seated. The Good One podcast is on all podcast streaming platforms, and on YouTube.
