'Kiss of the Spider Woman' drops dazzling and haunting first trailer
Jennifer Lopez and Tonatiuh star in the highly-anticipated movie musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman, which just released the first official trailer today. Audiences got a first look at the movie musical based on the 1976 novel originally written by Manuel Puig that was later turned into a Tony-winning stage production scored by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with a book by Terrence McNally. The film's two stars recently appeared as the cover stars for Out's September/October issue, talking about the filming process and what it meant to tell this storymore than 30 years after the show made it's debut on Broadway.To tease the official trailer drop, Tonatiuh shared pictures from the photoshoot with a message on his Instagram story saying, "We have a little surprise for you tomorrow morning." See on Instagram The film follows Molina, a queer window dresser who is jailed for public indecency with a man and uses his favorite singer as a way to mentally escape the Argentinian prison he is being held in alongside Valentin, played by Diego Luna. Viewers were offered a view into the lush, brightly colored world that the film's director, Bill Condon (who also directed Dreamgirls), created with his artistic vision."It was really a dream come true," Lopez told Out about starring in the movie. "I've dreamt of doing a musical for so many years. For it to be one that is [a] movie about love and acceptance and community, especially in this time, to me it couldn't have been a better thing to happen."Kiss of the Spider Woman is in theaters October 10.
