Ricky Martin teases Jamie King collab for 2025 VMAsand we're gagging
Ricky Martin, who's receiving the first-ever Latin Icon Award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, has shared a photo of himself working with choreographer and creative director Jamie King. Taking King's work into consideration, we couldn't help but wonder: Are the 2025 VMAs about to be iconic?!Sign up for the Out Newsletter to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment delivered three times a week straight (well) to your inbox!Martin was chosen to receive the first Latin Icon Award in VMAs history. "26 years after he became the first male Latin artist to win best pop video and won the most awards of the night at the show, Martin will once again take the stage to perform and accept his award," Thania Garcia wrote in a Variety exclusive. After that announcement, the superstar shared a picture in a since-expired Instagram story where he is seen alongside King. "With the one and only Jamie King," Martin wrote. "@vmas GET READY!"That's right: Martin's 2025 VMAs performance is coming to life along with the creative director/choreographer behind Super Bowl Halftime Show performances from Diana Ross (1996), Madonna (2012), and Bruno Mars (2014); tours like Britney Spears's Circus Tour (2011), Rihanna's Loud Tour (2011), Jennifer Lopez's Dance Again World Tour (2012), and Madonna's The Celebration Tour (2023); and two Cirque du Soleil shows in tribute to Michael Jackson. Just to name a few!See on InstagramWhile there was never a question that Martin could deliver a great performance at the VMAs, King's involvement makes it all feel even more exciting. In fact, it was King who choreographed Martin's 1999 Grammy Awards performance that turned him into a household name in the U.S."It's not every day a white grand piano drops from the sky, only to rise up again carrying a crooning Rihanna," Caroline Ryder wrote in a story from 2011 for Variety. "It's not every day that Britney Spears straddles a giant electric guitar, or steers a massive Egyptian barge onto the stage. But then, there's nothing 'every day' about the work of Jamie King, who conceived both Rihanna and Spears' current tours."This year's VMAs will not only air live on MTV, but also on CBS and Paramount+ simultaneously making it clear that the performers and the production itself are going all out for the ceremony. We can't wait to see how this turns out!The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards air September 7 on CBS, Paramount+, and MTV.
