Alan Cumming: Playing Nightcrawler again in 'Avengers: Doomsday' was 'really healing'
Alan Cumming is back as the mutant superhero Nightcrawler, and this time, he's loving every minute.Cumming told People that he "just finished" filming the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday earlier this month."I just came back. It was amazing. It was actually really in a sort of ooey, gooey way, it was really healing and really nice to go back to something that it was a terrible experience when I did it the first time." He also said that Doomsday is "a great film.""It was actually really great to go back. And especially, I'm 60 years old. I did not think I would be doing stunts, playing a superhero in my 60s. So that was great," he added. "And everyone was really nice."Cumming also praised the advances in makeup that have been made since his first X-Men film. On Today with Jenna & Friends, Cumming revealed that getting into his Nightcrawler makeup only takes about 90 minutes now."Before all the tattoos were done by hand 'cause they hadn't decided on them before we started filming, and now there are all these little things you tick on," he said. "It's a game-changer."Previously, Cumming has talked about how having to spend five hours in a makeup chair and working with director Bryan Singer made his time filming X2 "miserable." Several men have alleged that Singer sexually assaulted them, and other actors have said he was not pleasant to work with.Cumming is one of many actors who appeared in the Fox X-Men movies who will be making their MCU debut in the upcoming Doomsday film. He will be joined by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, and James Marsden. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
