Queerest Emmys ever? 2025 nods abound with LGBTQ+ milestones
History is being made at the 2025 Emmys!This year's Primetime Emmy Award nominations feature several queer performers and stars making history.Queer performers are breaking records and blazing trails this year, proving that when it comes to TV, LGBTQ+ people know how to excel.Despite some queer history being made this year, the 77th Emmys do have a diversity problem. Twenty-four actors of color earned Emmy nominations, the lowest number since 2019, when 22 were nominated.Several queer stars have already changed the game with their nominations and could make more history if they win. Here are some of the outstanding queer nominees.RuPaulThe Drag Race host made history this year as the most-nominated reality host ever at the Emmys. RuPaul earned his 10th nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, making him the sole record holder for the most nominations. He also holds the record for most consecutive nominations.Bowen YangSaturday Night Live star Bowen Yang earned his fourth acting nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. This makes him the most-nominated Asian male performer in Emmys' history. Sandra Oh is the most-nominated Asian actor overall with 14 nominations and one win.Bella RamseyNonbinary The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey became the first nonbinary performer to earn multiple Emmy nominations. They earned their second nomination for playing Ellie in the hit HBO show. Other important nominations for nonbinary actors include Carl Clemons Hopkins for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Hacks, and Emma Corrin for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for The Crown.Ayo EdebiriThe Bear star made history in two ways this year. Ayo Edebiri, 29, is the youngest Black woman to receive three Emmy acting nominations following this year's nod for her role as chef Sydney. She also became the first Black woman to be nominated for both acting and directing in the comedy categories in the same year. Edebiri is nominated for directing The Bear episode "Napkins."Tramell TillmanSeverance star Tramell Tillman is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the most nominated series of the year. If Tillman takes home the trophy, he will be the first Black actor to win an Emmy in that category.Colman DomingoColman Domingo earned his second Emmy nomination, this time for playing Danny in Netflix's The Four Seasons. The announcement was a full-circle moment for Domingo, as he learned of the nomination while filming the upcoming third season of Euphoria. "Maybe it's a good luck charm, being here with my cast from Euphoria," Domingo told Deadline, referencing his previous Emmy win for season 2 of the show.
