While on set for Love Inc.s milestone 10th issue cover shoot (now available on newsstands nationwide!) we knew we wanted to do something extra special for our cover stars, Lance Bass and Michael Turchin. Not only are they celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary (talk about perfect timing), but theyve also long been icons of LGBTQ+ love and visibility, both in the entertainment world and beyond. So we decided to take a sweet trip down memory laneliterally.During a break on set, we surprised the couple with a mini version of their original wedding cake, and their reaction was everything.The original cake a seven-tier masterpiece was created by The Butter End Cakery in Santa Monica, California, and was anything but traditional. True to Lance and Michaels fun-loving personalities, the towering confection was a pop-art dream come to life. It featured a bold black-and-white motif, dripping icing, and custom illustrations by Michael himself, including a whimsical portrait of the couple. It was creative, eye-catching, and deeply personaljust like their wedding. We provided reference photos from the original cake, highlighting key elements like the bright smiley faces and graphic drips. Lark nailed the brief, recreating the vibe in a way that felt nostalgic, joyful, and editorially stylish.When we brought the cake out during the shoot, Lance and Michael were completely caught off guardin the best way. Their faces lit up as soon as they saw the familiar design, and instantly understood the nod to the design.It was a full-circle moment: a celebration of 10 years of marriage, 10 years of marriage equality in the United States, and 10 issues of Love Inc., all wrapped up in one perfectly sweet surprise.Check out the video below to watch the revealand trust us, youll want to see their heartwarming (and hilarious) reactions.
