He wrote:"My dad left us unexpectedly Sunday morning. He embodied the first rule of parenting: if you have children, you must love them unconditionally throughout their lives. He did that, and taught me how to do that for my son. He was the ultimate example of what a man could be, and how a man should be. He had quiet strength and confidence, was never bellicose, not the kind of guy who had to puff up his chest to show you he was a man. Instead, he showed us how to care for each other, he lived his faith proudly, and taught his children to respect everyone."See on InstagramBrown continued, "We were about as different as two people could be, but throughout our shared time on this planet we connected above all through music. He filled our house with it, blasting The Eagles, Stevie Wonder, or picking up his guitar to sing a song he had written or a favorite hymn. He was a talented amateur musician, but at the peak of his powers he could easily have been a studio guitarist. He loved the guitar.""When I came home to visit, he'd pick it up and goad me into sitting with him and singing," the political strategist recalled. "I always pretended like I didn't want to, but it didn't take much arm-twisting. We'd sit for hours and hours, him playing and me singing, him always surprised I knew all the lyrics to an obscure Beatles song, me impressed he knew the chords to some Top 40 song of the moment."Brown also discussed his late father's reaction when he first came out to his family."When I came out to him in college he didn't understand. At all. But it didn't matter," Brown explained. "He told me, 'You are my son and nothing you could ever do could change the love I feel for you.' He was scared for me, but as the years passed, he saw how being gay enriched my life instead of impeding it. He became close with my friends, helped me plan the music for our wedding, and was beyond excited that he finally got a star athlete son [Colton Underwood] in the family."See on InstagramBrown wrote, "Now that we've lost him, I realize he knew his time was coming to an end Little things he said over the past few months Things that meant a lot, out of the blue.""If everyone had a dad like him our world would be a much kinder place," he concluded. "We love you, dad. We weren't ready, but you were. I can't believe I'll never hear your voice again [heart emojis]."You can read Jordan C.
