The internet has a new boyfriend!The online girls, gays, and theys have a new heartthrob in sight: Agustn Della Corte, the hunky actor playing Roque Prez on Olympo. Not only is Roque the lead male character in this new Netflix show, but he's also gay, and charismatic, and lovable, and nuanced, and has the physique of a Greek deity from Mount Olympus.Olympo Spain's latest original series for Netflix comes from Zeta Studios, the same production company behind the long-running hit show lite. Though some fans quickly described Olympo as "lite, but with athletes," the new show manages to be stronger, faster, sexier, and more elevated than the beloved series set at Las Encinas. Instead of the social pyramid dynamics within a high school, Olympo tells the story of top-tier athletes who live and train together at a High Performing Center in Spain. It's less Gossip Girl and more I, Tonya, if you catch our drift.Fans became quickly invested in the Olympo universe, with standout characters like Amaia Olaberria (Clara Galle), Sebas Senghor (Juan Perales), Zoe Moral (Nira Osahia), Renata Aguilera (Andy Duato), and Charly Lago (Mart Cordero), to name a few. He spent most of his early years in his hometown and joined the Trbol Rugby Club at an early age.By 2017, 20-year-old Corte was a professional rugby athlete who had ascended to play for the Uruguay national rugby union team, and was described as the captain of the team in interviews. This served him well during the casting process for Olympo given that his character, Roque, also plays rugby professionally and happens to be the captain of the team.Competing at the Rugby World Cup and retiring from sports.Corte eventually made his debut at the Rugby World Cup in 2019, set in Japan, and competed on an international scale with some of the best rugby players from around the world.In real life, Corte continued his career as an athlete after the 2019 Rugby World Cup and even signed a contract with a new team, Pearol Rugby, in 2020. However, he ended that year choosing to retire from sports.Agustn Della Corte's breakthrough performance in 'Society of the Snow.'In 2021, Corte auditioned for the film Society of the Snow a coproduction between Uruguay and Spain that told the real story of the rugby team aboard the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 back in 1972. As the airplane crashed in the Andes Mountains, this group of people had to survive in the coldest temperatures they ever faced.Corte's audition process for the film started in February 2021, as lockdown guidelines were still in place. "We were asked to send some photos, material, and information about usA few months later, we were asked to send some self-taped scenes," he told Popternative in an interview. "At the time, I didn't realize what the project was aboutA few months later, I had some Zoom auditions with the casting directors that were from Argentina."The actor continued, "The final stage was in Montevideo, so when they called me, I was in Paysand, my [hometown], at the north of Uruguay. So I traveled to Montevideo and did my audition in front of J.A. Bayona, the director. It wasn't until [I was] there that I realized that the project was, like, a really big project. After a few auditions there in Montevideo, [they] confirmed our participation."The film, based on the 2008 novel by Pablo Vierci, made its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and was eventually released by Netflix in late 2023 (in theaters) and early 2024 (on streaming).Society of the Snow was ultimately nominated for two Academy Awards that year: Best International Feature Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.Corte's performance as Antonio "Tintn" Vizintn in Society of the Snow catapulted his acting career to new heights. He was now also recognized as a dramatic actor featured in an Oscar-nominated film not just a former professional rugby player in pursuit of a new career.Other acting roles, modeling collabs, and the path to 'Olympo' on Netflix.Following the filming, production, and release of Society of the Snow, Corte starred the 2024 film Linda (as a character named Blas) and the 2025 movie Papeles (as Yago). He also worked as a model with various brands including a commercial for Acqua Di Gi Homme for Giorgio Armani Beauty.Corte's audition process for Olympo was, ironically, not very different from landing his life-changing role in Society of the Snow. He was also in Uruguay at the time, and also did preliminary casting calls via Zoom, which he explained in an interview (in Spanish) with LOS40 along with his Olympo costars Clara Galle and Nuno Gallego."I did a couple of casting stages on Zoom, and then I was able to come to Madrid, and [the three of us] met there," Corte said, highlighting that the three of them met for the first time that day.Galle added, "It was April 3rd; I remember the date exactly."Corte's Olympo character, Roque, is best friends with both Amaia (Clara Galle) and Cristian (played by Nuno Gallego). In real life, the three of them certainly seem very close as well, to the point that Galle can easily recall the exact day when she met the two actors while they were all still auditioning.Amaia and Cristian are established as a couple very early on Olympo. In turn, Roque is an out gay man (and his teammates don't have issues with it), but he's still forced to navigate the politics of courting sponsorships as an athlete. Moreover, Roque also has to face the realities of dating among other male athletes, who are either fully straight or deep in the closet.Olympo is now streaming on Netflix.
