Nancy Mace rages at Jonathan Van Ness for doing something she did herself just 2 years ago
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has made opposition to the existence of trans people central to her brand in her time in Congress, but she has claimed that shes OK with gender nonconforming behavior, going so far as to wear a tuxedo herself to a D.C. event. She claims to only have an issue with people assigned male at birth identifying as women and using womens facilities, but that she doesnt care about how people live their lives. But now shes outraged that Queer Eyes Jonathan Van Ness wore a dress to the Golden Globes. Related Nancy Mace caught on video locking lips with another woman Mace has made a name for herself as a Christian opponent of trans rights. But shes getting attention for her past. Mace has made national headlines since November for her crusade against Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first transgender person elected to Congress. Mace introduced a resolution to ban McBride from using the womens facilities at the Capitol complex, has posted hundreds of times to social media attacking transgender people, and has made numerous media appearances to promote anti-transgender policies. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Throughout this battle, she has maintained that she is fine with gender nonconformity and even claimed that trans peoples existence is a threat to gender nonconforming people. For example, in December she tweeted, Girls who are tomboys are still girls, a reference to the false anti-transgender claim that kids who dont follow their genders stereotypes are being forced to transition. Mace herself faced attacks from her fellow conservatives in 2023 when she wore a tuxedo to the White House Correspondents Dinner. Further, as our culture continues to undermine women by celebrating men who pretend to be them why would you choose to wear a tux to the WHCD? Randan Steinhauser, a self-described Counter-Cultural Christian Conservative WOMAN, asked Mace on X at the time. @NancyMace I have known you for a longtime. But your recent anti-life statements & positions are very concerning. First, she posted, This aint Gilead, a reference to the dystopian novelThe Handmaids Tale. When they cant win the policy or the debate, they go straight for your appearance. So it goes, she wrote. Anti-LGBTQ+ hate influencer Chaya Raichik who goes by Libs of TikTok on social media posted a picture of Van Ness in a green dress from the red carpet of the Golden Globes this past weekend. Grown man dresses up as a woman, Raichik wrote about Van Ness, who is nonbinary. He looks absolutely ridiculous.Sharing Raichiks post, Mace wrote, An actual woman wouldnt be seen in public wearing that. Van Ness does not identify as a woman, and its unclear why she claimed that no woman would want to wear the satin Christian Siriano gown. An actual woman wouldnt be seen in public wearing that. #HoldTheLine https://t.co/rmqelmtT68 Rep. Nancy Mace (@RepNancyMace) January 6, 2025Van Ness came out as nonbinary in 2019 and often wears clothing associated with all genders in public. They have also been on the receiving end of transphobic comments about their appearance for years. Also I love all these transphobic comments in here, they wrote in response to hate they received after wearing a dress to the Creative Arts Emmys in 2018. The guy in a dress is insulting and for anyone that doesnt see the implications is blind. F**king rood people Im too tired.Mace has been using transphobia to build her political career since before she was elected to Congress. In her first campaign for Congress, she made up a law that she claimed required transgender equality in the military, said that her Democratic opponent was responsible for it, and said that it would result in a Marine Corps base in her district getting shut down. It was all a lie there was no such law and the Marine base is still in operation today but it helped her secure her seat in Congress. In her second run for Congress, she accused her opponent of providing SEX CHANGE SURGERY. PUBERTY BLOCKERS. GENDER CHANGING HORMONES. FOR CHILDREN? in an ad, even though her opponent was a doctor who worked at a hospital that didnt provide gender-affirming care for trans people at all. Her opponent was forced to resign from her job.Mace has a poor record on LGBTQ+ rights in Congress, getting scores of 15 and 14 out of 100 on HRCs Congressional Scorecard, and she even voted against the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination against LGBTQ+ people at the federal level, and against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act because it would give some protections to transgender inmates. In her effort to stop McBride from using the womens restrooms at the Capitol, Mace has referred toMcBride as it and as a man. She has also startedselling anti-trans t-shirtsand saidthat its offensivethat McBride thinks shes equal to other congresswomen.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
