After what felt like an eternity, Spotify Wrapped is finally here!Spotify Wrapped takes all of your music and podcast listening habits from the past calendar year and breaks it down into unique and funky stats. Kudos to Spotify for being the one company to find a way to make nonstop data collection into a viral sensation, especially for the LGBTQ+ community! It's more serious and more telling than your horoscope, Meyer-Briggs, Enneagram, and favorite Sex and the City diva combined.So what was it this year? Your listening habits as a tarot card? Where you should vacation based on your top artist of the year? Sadly, no. After a longer than average wait, many listeners were disappointed and left wanting more. Where are the genre statistics? Why have they still not brought back user's top album? The lackluster graphics and bare bones assessments are almost certainly due it's overuse of AI. In December of last year, Spotify laid off 17% of its staff. How did the company make up for the loss of around 1,500 employees? By adding an AI component describing user's "musical evolution" throughout the year that listeners are overwhelmingly displeased with.The use of artificial intelligence, lack of creativity, and disappearance of a specifically human touch have given birth to the most lackluster Spotify Wrapped since starting in 2016. And yet, when times are hard, the memes go harder. The good news is that queer artists absolutely dominated this year, and queer people on the internet have made some memes that more than make up for Spotify Wrapped failing to meet expectations this year.
