It seems like only yesterday we were in Phase 1 of the brand-new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), hanging out with Tony Stark for the first time. Now, as the universe has expanded into multiple movies, TV shows, and spinoffs, were about to close out Phase 5 and move on to Phase 6.There are a million things we can talk about when it comes to the MCU, but today were here to hone in on the very important fact that Colman Domingo has officially confirmed with Screen Geek that he is, in fact, in talks of joining.The where, the how, and the who he might play (or replace) is still up for debate, so keep reading to find out what hes said, who hes rumored to play, and other scenarios that could potentially pan out as we move into the next phase of the MCU.What has Colman Domingo said about joining the MCU?See on InstagramIn truth, Domingo has actually spoken about the potential of joining the MCU for a while, but this is the first time hes ever confirmed anything.In his interview with Screen Geek, he said he had a meeting with Marvel but that it wasnt specifically about anything, which sort of helps but doesnt.They literally sat down and said, What do you want to do? Domingo recounted. And I said, I dont know, what do you got for me?This led to a further engagement with Domingo, who very much expressed excitement at the idea of joining the MCU. That said, he also wants something that is created for me and something where I feel like I can give something of myself to. So well find out what that is. I dont know what it is yet, but Im patient.Were a little less patient, but were at least happy with the progress.What character is he rumored to play?See on InstagramDomingos admission to joining the MCU comes on the heels of rumors that he will take over the role of Kang on Loki after some things went down with the original actor, Jonathan Majors.However, Domingo adding that hed want to have a character thats created for him that he can give something of himself to may elude to the fact this particular rumor is squashed. Perhaps. Because, with the MCU, you really never know whats going to go down. Who is Kang? (@) For those who arent fully immersed in the MCU, the character of Kang as the variant He Who Remains debuted in season 1 of Loki, and his Kang the Conqueror variant debuted in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.Played by Jonathan Majors, the character was originally meant to replace Thanos as the big bad of the universe, and Majors was set to play all of the variants of the character. Said variants are also something Domingo could take over, which could make for a smooth transition if it's the route they choose to take.The reason Majors lost his role with Marvel came on the heels of a 2023 arrest for misdemeanor charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment following an altercation with his girlfriend. He was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault, and the MCU promptly cut ties.Who might Colman Domingo play instead? (@) Honestly, as soon as the rumors started swirling in early January about Domingo taking over for Majors, it seems that fans have rallied around the idea and want it to proceed whether Domingo wants to or not.See on InstagramBesides that, fans have vocalized a desire for him to play other characters, as well, including Doctor Voodoo from Doctor Strange. (@) After interviewing him, Screen Geek also suggested that Domingo could take on the role of Charles Professor X Xavier when the MCU brings the X-Men back to front and center. Their argument for his take on the role largely focuses on his ability to embrace the idea of his characters and how he always handles his roles with care.Wait, doesnt he already play a character in the MCU? (@) Some of this news may sound a little confusing, depending on how closely you follow along with all of the stories in the world of Marvel, including the comics and animated series on the side.While Domingo is going to voice the role for the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn in the upcoming Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man animated series, the show technically takes place outside of the MCUs main timeline and makes that a little bit convoluted. Still, this could also make way for Domingo to bring a live-action version of the role to an upcoming Spider-Man movie, if it fits into the storyline which it totally could, considering where we left off in the most recent Spider-Man flick.Either way, Domingo admitted voicing the role left him with some big shoes to fill, adding that Willem Dafoes performance of the character was phenomenal.Further, he said, I thought, I get to actually really just play his intelligence and looking at his mind and how he builds, especially with his industries and then how that also becomes narcissistic. It also becomes a detriment as well. Ive always looked at the Norman Osborn character as being a symbol of mental health when its unchecked.What if a live-action MCU movie with Colman Domingo doesnt happen?See on InstagramAt this point, there are too many things in life that get us excited and then let us down. With all of the rumors about potential castings, all of the interest in Domingo joining the MCU, and now confirmation that something is at least in talks, we better not get let down again.Fortunately, we think the MCU knows how lucky they would be to have Domingo on their team. Hes a rising star with an acting range that covers every emotion under the sun. We also just need more opportunities to watch him and listen to him speak.
