The Outlook is our weekly roundup of political issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community.The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Trump-Vance administration to move forward with its ban on transgender people serving in the military while ongoing legal challenges continue.At an April 30 school board meeting in Tabernacle, N.J., about 40 people gathered to discuss the attempt to remove Policy 5756, a trans-affirming student guideline. The meeting also revealed the sudden resignations of three board members, which followed a public records request for communications about the policy.Ohio House General Government Committee heard public testimony on House Bill 196, which could require some transgender candidates to disclose their gender history in order to run for public office, potentially increasing challenges to their candidacies. The bill is sponsored by Reps. Angie King (R-Celina) and Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria), the only two Ohio House candidates who faced transgender opponents in the 2024 general election.Four anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in Floridas 2025 legislative session were defeated. The proposed legislation included bans on Pride flags in public institutions, restrictions on pronoun usage in the workplace, and measures aimed at dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Each bill was either withdrawn or indefinitely postponed.Michigan Republicans introduced a three-bill package aimed at restricting transgender healthcare.
