Bostons only lesbian bar has finally opened its doors. After decades of having no lesbian bar to call its own, Danis Queer Bar announced via a post on Instagram that they were open for business starting Thursday, September 12, from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Related Chappell Roan dominated the VMAs. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In an update shared on Instagram in July, manager Thais Rocha said that while the bar is ready to go, ongoing delays caused by their architect have kept the doors closed.Hes kind of held us hostage in terms of what we need to move forward with all of our final permitting and things like that to get open, Rocha said in the video. Its been a lot of back-and-forth, so hopefully were able to wrap that up soon.Rocha has been chronicling the bars opening on Instagram, sharing renovation updates as well as events the bar has held in other queer spaces, such as OKeeffes, a neighboring restaurant. Danis Queer Bar says that its core audience is Queer, Sapphic Women, Trans and Non-Binary members of the LGBTQ+ Community in Boston. Danis Queer Bar hosts weekly events, from drag shows to emo dance parties, that showcase Bostons queer culture and allow everyone to be their true and honest selves.Rocha has been curating queer events in Boston, including Sapphic Nights. The website states that Rocha started Danis because the events had spent years moving from one borrowed space to another, and never feeling truly at home.It was time for a change, so there it was.. the dream of a lesbian bar in Boston was born.Being lifelong Bostonians, weve witnessed our city evolve and grow and we felt it was important for our community to be part of that evolution, Danis website further states. And why the name Dani? Rocha named the bar after her dog, Dani, in the most lesbian fashion!For queer Bostonians who want to check it out, the bar is right across from Hynes Convention Center at 909 Boylston Street, and its opening hours are Monday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
