WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMWanda Sykes thanked the trans community for anti-trans comic Ricky Gervais Golden Globes winSunday nights 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards featured some 24k zingers from host Nikki Glaser, who notably skewered broadcaster CBSs news division as See BS News under recently appointed, anti-woke editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. But the sickest burn of the night came later in the show, when out comedian Wanda Sykes took the stage to present the award for Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Sykes opened her remarks by thanking the Golden Globes for having her, because you know theres some people pissed off that a queer Black woman is up here doing the job of two mediocre white guys. She then proceeded to gently roast the categorys six nominees, including Brett Goldstein, Kevin Hart, Kumail Nanjiani, and Sarah Silverman. When it came to two of the nominees, however, Sykes got a bit more savage. Bill Maher, you give us so much, Sykes said, as the camera cut to the Real Time host. But I would love a little less. Its unclear what, specifically, Sykes would like to see less of from Maher, who styles himself as politically moderate. But she may have been referencing his vocal opposition to gender-affirming care for minors, or his support for Floridas Dont Say Gay law, or his general transphobia. Or maybe she was just referring to Maher belittling celebs like Sykes, Mark Ruffalo, and Jean Smart who wore Be Good pins to the Golden Globes in honor of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old queer mother who died after getting hit by gunfire from an ICE agent on July 7.When it came to Ricky Gervais, whose Netflix special Mortality was up for the award, Sykes noted that the unapologetically anti-trans comedian was absent from the ceremony.Ricky Gervais, I love you for not being here, she said. Because if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf and youre going to thank God and the trans community. Gervaiss history of anti-trans jokes goes back to 2019 when he posted a series of tweets defending J.K. Rowlings own anti-trans comments. Gervais initially claimed his posts were jokes, but they nonetheless led to calls for his dismissal as host of the 2020 Golden Globes. In his 2022 Netflix special SuperNature, Gervais doubled down on his anti-trans rhetoric. As Them notes, as recently as last week, Gervais said in an interview with BBC Radio 4s This Cultural Life that he hasnt changed his tune on trans issues because I think Im right. When Sykes opened the envelope during last nights Golden Globes, she joked that she wanted to borrow Teyana Taylors Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture acceptance speech earlier in the show, the One Battle After Another star had thanked father God, in the name of Jesus for her win because [Ricky Gervais] would like to thank God and the trans community!Ricky Gervais could not be here, so well accept this on his behalf, a not especially enthusiastic-seeming Sykes concluded.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 80 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGay pastor says ICE agent pointed gun in his face & made repulsive racist commentA gay Minneapolis pastor said an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent handcuffed him, pointed a gun in his face, and made a disturbing white supremacist comment only a few blocks from where another agent shot and killed queer wife and mother Renee Nicole Good. The Rev. You wouldnt be any fun.I never, ever saw systemic racism so blatantly in all my life as I heard that day, Callaghan said. America was built on the backs of immigrants, Callaghan said. We must stand up and support our immigrant siblings. The Trump administration has continued to send ICE agents into Democratic-led cities to terrorize the communities. Many are saying a tragedy like Goods death was inevitable with the way Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has disregarded the law. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called the DHS claim bulls**t, calling the agents actions reckless and telling ICE to get the f**k out of Minneapolis. In a social media post, Trump claimed that Good was a professional agitator who viciously ran over the ICE officer. He blamed the shooting on the Radical Left. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem praised the officer, adding,This goes to show the assaults that our ICE officers and law enforcement are under every single day.An analysis of four different videos of the incident led the publication404 Mediato conclude that DHS is lying. WWW.OUT.COM'Heated Rivalry's Ilya Rozanov is now a queer icon in RussiaCrave/HBO Max's hit gay hockey romance Heated Rivalry shows the love story between Canadian player Shane Hollander and Russian player Ilya Rozanov (played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, respectively), but how do actual queer Russians feel about the show?Gay Russian journalist Mikhail Zygar writes about Heated Rivalry and its impact on queer Russians in a new Vanity Fair piece. In it, he asserts that he knows "quite a few people like" Ilya, and "I might even say that I have been him.""Like the character, I was born toward the end of the Soviet Union, a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offense. My father was a military officer," Zygar writes. "I grew up in a society where coming out never seemed possible; it was always clear that being gay in Russia would mean being an outcast, being cursed, having no chance whatsoever."Russia adopted its first law against LGBTQ+ "propaganda" in 2013, shortly before the Sochi Olympics; the country banned "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" among minors. In 2022, the law became stricter, banning "propaganda," which could be loosely interpreted as any form of LGBTQ+ representation, to adults as well. The following year, the Russian Ministry of Justice labeled the "international public LGBT movement" as an extremist element and called for the state to "ban its activity in Russia."These laws have had big impacts on Russian celebrities and pro athletes, preventing them not only from coming out but from supporting queer rights at all.In 2023, several Russian NHL players refused to wear Pride-themed warm-up jerseys due to the law. Several American players also refused to wear the jerseys for political reasons. The Chicago Blackhawks, which had several Russian players, decided the organization as a whole would forgo wearing the jerseys out of concerns for the safety of its Russian players. Now, Heated Rivalry is giving some queer Russians new hope. While Heated Rivalry isn't available on any official Russian streaming platform, Russian fans are reportedly loving the series. Kinopoisk, the Russian equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes, shows Heated Rivalry at a rating of 8.6, surpassing other shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, which both have an 8.3 rating."I know that thousands of gay men in Russia watched Heated Rivalry on pirate sites, of course, because they have no legal way to watch the series. The Russian authorities would undoubtedly ban the show as LGBTQ+ propaganda, but most Western platforms dont function in Russia either," Zygar says. "As a result, Russian queer people have to break every possible law simply to live in the same world as members of their own community."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 89 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.OUT.COM7 nastiest reads from the Golden Globes that had us howling and clappingAward season is a time when the world celebrates Hollywoodthe films, the celebs, the glamour, and the excess of it all.The only thing we love more than living for celebs is when they get a good, well-meaningbut lets be honest, meanread. And this years Golden Globes did not let us down. When you select a roast master like Nikki Glaser to host the ceremony (seriously, if you havent seen her set at the Tom Brady roast, please correct that), you know nothing is off-limits and the reads will be savage. But she wasnt the only one to bust down the library doors. Wanda Sykes also brought the heat, reading one smug comic in absentia and another directly to his face. It was so satisfying, and you definitely dont want to miss it.If you havent had time to watch the full ceremony, no sweatweve pulled together the best, most brutal, and deliciously nasty reads of the night.Nikki Glaser reads the Justice DepartmentGlaser kicked off the night by kicking things up in the most incredibleand darkestway possible, calling out Hollywood, pedophiles, and the Department of Justice all in one brutal read. There are so many A-listers here, began Glaser, and by A-listers I mean people who are on a list that has been heavily redacted. Yes, Americas newest place to see B.S. news. We needed another!Nikki Glaser roasts Leonardo DiCaprioWhile many in Hollywood took some heat from Glaser during her opening monologue, the most brutal reads were reserved for Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. What a career Leonardo DiCaprio has had, began Glaser. Countless iconic performances, you've worked with every great director, you've won three Golden Globes and an Oscar, and the most impressive thing is you were able to accomplish all that before your girlfriend turned 30. I mean it's just insane.Nikki Glaser reads Sean PennShe then turned to One Battle After Another co-star Sean Penn, and what followed was savage. You're such an original. Everyone in this town is obsessed with looking younger, meanwhile Sean Penn is like, 'What if I slowly morph into a sexy leather handbag?'Penn took the joke in stride, reacting with a mixture of shock and laughter.Sean I love you, continued Glaser. Not only such an amazing actor but you're such a devoted humanitarian. I feel like a lot of actors talk the talk but Sean Penn will actually go to the places in the world that need help the most and he will do cocaine there. And I feel like we dont celebrate that enough. And Sean, I did get permission to tell that joke from your two best friends Charlie Sheen and El Chapo. They said hi. Blame it on them.Wanda shades Bill Maher to his smug faceOut and proud queer comic Wanda Sykes had the honor of presenting the award for stand-up comedy on television, and no surprise, she took the opportunity to turn it into a mini roast, saving her harshest reads for two of the nominees.Im presenting the award for standup comedy on television, but first i want to give them some love, began Sykes. First up, she turned her cutting wit to Bill Maher while the camera cut to him just in time to catch his face visibly fall in anticipation of what was to follow.Bill Maher, you give us so much, but I would love a little less. Just try less.Wanda Sykes thanks the trans community on Ricky Gervais behalfBut her best read was a two-partner reserved for Ricky Gervais.Ricky Gervais, I love you for not being here, Sykes said. No, I love you, Ricky, because if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalfand youre going to thank God, and the trans community. Ooh Ricky! The joke drew laughter and applause from the audience, which only grew louder when Gervais did indeed receive the award and it was Sykes who accepted it on his behalf. He would like to thank God and the trans community," joked Sykes.Mark Ruffalo reads Trump for absolute filth on the red carpetWhile the rest of the reads on this list were delivered with a twinkle in the eye and biting humor, this last one saw Mark Ruffalo speaking with his whole chest on the red carpet. When asked about the pin he was wearing on his lapel, the Task actor explained:Its for Renee Nicole Good who is murdered, began Ruffalo. We have a vice president who is lying about what's happening. We have a we're in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. [Donald Trumps] telling the world that international law doesn't matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality, but the guy is a convicted felon or convicted rapist. He's a pedophile. He's the worst human being. If we're relying on this guy's morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we're all in a lot of trouble. So this is for her. This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I'm one of them. I love this country, and what I'm seeing here happening is not America.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 85 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMTrump says Renee Good & her friend are to blame for her death: They were highly disrespectfulDonald Trump railed against Renee Good, the queer Minnesota mom who was shot to death by an ICE agent last week through the side window of her car while her wife sat in the passenger seat. Trump referred to Goods wife, Becca Good, as Renee Goods friend and said that they were both highly disrespectful of law enforcement.Cellphone footage released on Friday showed an ICE agent, identified as Jonathan Ross, approaching the Goods SUV in a snowy residential neighborhood. In the video, Renee Good can be heard telling the agent, Thats fine, dude, Im not mad, though its not clear exactly what shes referring to. Becca Good is standing behind the car, taunting Ross, and then she enters as Renee Good drives away with Ross shouting, Get out of the f**king car. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The video does not show whether the Goods car came into contact with Ross. Three shots can be heard as Ross is next to the drivers side door. F**king b**ch, Ross says, and then the sound of the car crashing can be heard. A reporter asked Trump about the shooting on Air Force One this weekend. Trump had already posted on Truth Social, calling Renee Good very disorderly and saying that she viciously ran over the ICE Officer, which contradicts multiple videos shot of the interaction that show that the officer was only slightly brushed by the slowly moving car, according to The Guardian. It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement, Trump responded. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement. You saw that! They were harassing, they were following for days and for hours, and I think frankly, they were professional agitators. And Id like to find out- We are going to find out whos paying for it, with their brand-new signs and all their [inaudible], Trump said. Trump often claims that liberal protestors are professional agitators to discredit them, not as a statement of fact. There is no reason to believe that the Goods were paid for anything related to what happened in the video. But these are professional agitators, and law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff, what that woman and what her friend and what their other friends were doing to law enforcement, not just ICE, law enforcement is outrageous, Trump said.Trump referred to Becca Good as Renee Goods friend, which is a common way for anti-LGBTQ+ people to diminish queer relationships. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMPublishers are stepping back from LGBTQ+ books amid bans & the current GOP president2025 and the return to a GOP president, as well as ongoing efforts to ban books by and about LGBTQ+ people across the country, have created a chilling effect in the publishing industry, according to a new report fromThe Hill.Several industry professionals told the outlet that over the past year, more publishers have rejected queer book proposals and manuscripts, while authors have seen a drop in royalties for their queer books. The anti-LGBTQ+ rights fixation on childrens books has made things particularly difficult in childrens book publishing. Related Democrats are taking back school boards as voters tire of Republican culture wars As The Hill notes, PEN America tracked over 10,000 book bans across the country at the height of the book-banning craze which has targeted books by Black authors along with LGBTQ+ titles during the 20232024 school year. During the 20242025 school year, the group identified nearly 7,000 bans across 87 school districts in the U.S.Some authors of banned books have reported spikes in sales in recent years, and at least one bookseller told The Hill that sales of queer novels remain steady. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today But that may not be enough to reassure publishers of childrens and young adult titles. Young adult novelist and LGBTQ Reads creator Dahlia Adler noted that publishers are more likely to invest in books that will not get banned, while Irene Vzquez, an associate editor at independent publisher Levine Querido, explained that childrens and young adult publishers rely on wholesalers that sell books to schools and libraries for the majority of their sales. Those wholesalers, she said, have become more hesitant to purchase LGBTQ+ books.Darius the Great is Not Okay author Adib Khorram blamed book bans for a recent 70 percent drop in his royalty checks, and said he and other queer authors have turned to writing adult fiction because of the fraught climate around LGBTQ+ childrens and YA books. While Khorram said he intends to keep writing queer books for young readers, the current political climate has certainly led to more anxiety about how I will pay my bills. This is the first year in like a decade that Ive had [rejection] responses from editors specifically citing that its difficult to place queer books in stores, and theyre being selective about acquiring queer stories, author and literary agent Rebecca Podos told The Hill.Similarly, Jim McCarthy, vice president at literary agency Dystel, Goderich & Bourret, said that one editor who passed on a project specifically told him that in the face of so many book bans and so much concern about decreasing school library sales of queer content that they were passing. This really feels like its been the first backwards step in terms of publishing, worrying that they cant access enough readers because of sort of broad cultural concerns about queer content, McCarthy said. I cant imagine that five or 10 years ago, I would have received a response like the one I received. Adler told The Hill shes noticed fewer new queer novel announcements in Publishers Weekly and an increase in coded language when it comes to descriptions of Young Adult novels in particular.I think that language is kind of being more intentionally left out to keep it from being a target, she said. I feel like thats kind of my biggest takeaway of this round of the current administration, she continued. [Publishers] are not necessarily not buying [LGBTQ+ books], but theyre not necessarily being loud about the fact that they did buy them, and theyre letting people find out theyre queer in other ways.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 56 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.OUT.COMJosh Cavallo accuses soccer club of homophobiaAdelaide United respondsProfessional soccer player Josh Cavallo accused Adelaide United FC of being "homophobic" and making decisions based on "politics," adding that he also witnessed "a group chat of teammates mocking a picture of me and my partner," which he said "only added to this heartache."The 26-year-old Australian athlete, who came out as gay in 2021, played for Adelaide United FC for most of his professional career. After being kept on the bench for the entire 2024-2025 season, the athlete collaborated on a joint statement with the team to announce his departure in May 2025. However, Cavallo shared a new statement yesterday in which he reflected on his experiences and made accusations regarding the soccer team, its "new management," and even some of his former teammates."It's taken me a while to digest how my time at Adelaide United ended, but I think the fans deserve honesty," Cavallo started. "Leaving the club had nothing to do with football. Decisions were made by people in power that blocked my opportunities, not because of my talent, but because of who I choose to love. Under the new management, it became clear that I wasn't allowed on the pitch because of politics."The athlete continued, "It's hard to swallow when I realised my own club was homophobic. I was angry because people thought I was sidelined based on injuries, when in reality, it was internal homophobia that kept me on the bench. I stayed professional, kept my head down, and worked hard every day which I'm proud of. Yet no matter how much I produced or improved, my contributions were continuously ignored. It brought a lot of negativity and affected my wellbeing as a professional footballer.""This was exactly the fear I had about coming out, seeing prejudice affect my career in modern day. For the first time, I actually questioned if I should have kept my sexuality a secret," Cavallo reflected. "This brought up fears I had about coming out publicly, that being myself would affect my career. I felt incredibly isolated and wondered if I'd made the mistake of sharing my story."Notably, Cavallo accused his own former teammates of engaging in homophobic behavior as well, writing: "I felt things going backwards, not just on the pitch, but in the one place I thought was a safe space and after seeing a group chat of teammates mocking a picture of me and my partner only added to this heartache." See on Instagram Cavallo concluded the statement writing, "This fresh start in the UK has helped me breathe again and I hope I can fall back in love with the sport that means everything to me. Despite the way it ended behind the scenes, I refuse to let it ruin my connection to this city. Adelaide is where I found my wings. To the fans and supporters: thank you for your passion and backing. You deserve honesty and success. You were incredible to play in front of. Thank you."Cavallo's partner, Leighton Morrell, wrote a comment under the athlete's post that reads:"Proud of you. Even this post doesn't really do justice to how heavy that time actually was to live through. We won't forget the ones that continued to show up and show out for you. Onto the next chapter [heart emoji.]" Leighton Morrell shares comment under his partner Josh Cavallo's post accusing Adelaide United FC of 'homophobic' behavior.Instagram (@joshua.cavallo) Adelaide United FC the actual soccer team being accused of this behavior responded to Cavallo's accusations through a statement shared on its website just a few hours after the athlete's Instagram post."Adelaide United is aware of a statement published on social media this morning by former player Josh Cavallo," the soccer team's response read. "The Club is extremely disappointed by the claims made and categorically rejects the allegations, including any suggestion that Adelaide United is homophobic. All on-field decisions relating to team selection are made solely on footballing grounds."The statement went on, "Adelaide United has always been committed to fostering an inclusive environment for players, staff and supporters and we remain proud of our ongoing work to promote inclusion across football. Strengthening inclusivity must remain an ongoing focus for the game, and the Club looks forward to hosting the fourth annual Pride Cup this weekend against Melbourne Victory. The Club will not be making any further comment at this time." Adelaide United FC shares a post titled 'Adelaide United Responds to Social Media Claims' to its official website on January 13, 2025.AdelaideUnited.com.auThis story is still developing0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 83 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.OUT.COMHeated Rivalry is a hit show, but does it reignite queer TV?Starring Hudson Williams (Shane Hollander) and Connor Storrie (Ilya Rozanov), Heated Rivalry was adapted to TV by showrunner Jacob Tierney, based on the Game Changers book series by Rachel Reid, centering the queer love story between two closeted hockey players going from rivals to lovers. During one of the most dizzying eras for cancelations of LGBTQ+ content in mainstream media, Heated Rivalry thrived turning its cast members into global superstars, selling out all physical copies of Reid's series of novels, and setting up Tierney as one of the most popular showrunners in television. As Storrie and Williams continue to grow their careers, season 2 of the show enters production and is tentatively scheduled to air in the first few months of 2027, and Reid releases the third and final book centering Shane and Ilya's love story later this year, it all starts to feel like a fever dream considering how much queer erasure and censorship has been taking place under this current administration. Two big questions hang in the air at the moment. First and foremost, how did a queer story between two closeted hockey players manage to capture zeitgeist and become appointment television for so many different kinds of audiences around the world? Secondly, does the success of Heated Rivalry inspire more queer representation in the near future? Most insiders claim to have straightforward answers to these questions, but the likeliest path forward isn't exactly straight. (All puns intended.)The Heated Rivalry TV series defied precedents and presidents! Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander and Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov on Heated Rivalry.HBO Max/Crave CanadaOn the one hand, the "sex sells" clich is quite hard to ignore, even if its track record with queer content isn't as bulletproof as it is with straight projects. On the other hand, we've seen more live-action adaptations of books failing than succeeding over the years some of which had much wider fandoms, bigger budgets, and also explored sex and sexuality as major storylines. When comparing Heated Rivalry to other recent projects that share similarities such as the commitment of Looking and Queer As Folk to show more realistic gay sex scenes, or other live-action adaptations of existing queer novels such as Heartstopper and Fellow Travelers it's fair to say that those titles didn't reach the same popularity as this Canadian show produced by Crave. In many ways, there was literally no precedent for Heated Rivalry to work.A quite Unrivaled situation, one could say. Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander and Kolton Stewart as Carter Vaughn on Heated Rivalry.HBO Max/Crave CanadaThe political climate in the U.S. hasn't exactly been encouraging (to say the least) for studios, networks, and streaming services to bet on queer content, either! The existence of trans people is literally under attack. There's a real risk of gay marriage being overturned. Even talk shows hosted by comedians are being canceled and/or suspended for political reasons.Ironically, Heated Rivalry being entirely produced and financed in Canada means that no conservative governor or president across the U.S. can do anything that would meaningfully hurt the beloved queer show. That is unlike what happened when the Pentagon called Netflix's Boots "woke trash," which might've added some trepidation before renewing the show for a second season.Heated Rivalry has zero ties to U.S. politics. HBO Max could theoretically drop the streaming rights of the Canadian series (it hasn't, and it probably won't this is just a hypothetical), and the show would still move forward with its confirmed second season. In many ways, Heated Rivalry wouldn't exist under the current Hollywood model. But, to quote another t.A.T.u. song: "They're not gonna get us." Oh, Canada!Does a queer Heated Rivalry impact the queer Hollywood realm? Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov on Heated Rivalry.HBO Max/Crave CanadaGLAAD's Where We Are on TV (2024-2025) report, which evaluates queer representation on TV across mainstream U.S. media, showed that nearly half of all LGBTQ+ characters on television were featured on shows that won't return with new seasons beyond 2025. Noteworthy endings and cancelations for queer shows in 2025 include Mid-Century Modern (Hulu), Olympo (Netflix), And Just Like That (HBO Max), Boots (Netflix), 9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox), Clean Slate (Prime Video), and The Conners (ABC), among others. No, Heated Rivalry is obviously (and fortunately) not the only successful LGBTQ-inclusive series to have a new season in 2026 (and/or early 2027). However, the list of other shows coming back to the small screen has more conundrums and caveats than actual cultural cache. Benito Skinner on Overcompensating; Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow on The Hunting Wives; Jordan Firstman on I Love LA; Zendaya on Euphoria; Sam Reid on Interview With the Vampire a.k.a. The Vampire Lestat; Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart on Hacks.Prime Video/A24; Netflix; HBO Max; HBO Max; AMC; HBO MaxHacks the best comedy on television, queer or otherwise, full-stop is returning for its fifth season on HBO Max. Unfortunately, this will be the last season we get from Jean Smart as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels. HBO's prestigious-turned-perplexing Euphoria will finally wrap things up with season 3. Its stars are all too busy doing movies and too old to play high schoolers. Its showrunner is still answering for The Idol trainwreck, not to mention the four-year waiting period since season 2 aired and season 3 was scheduled for 2026.Netflix's The Hunting Wives is one of the biggest queer shows to come out of 2025, and it was promptly renewed for a second season that'll come as quickly as possible to the streaming service. Admittedly, though, it might not be the show for viewers who aren't fond of glorifying firearms, or homophobic viewers who don't enjoy the sapphic dynamics between the characters. Another standout queer show of the year is Overcompensating, a coproduction between Prime Video and A24 that is spearheaded and led by Benito Skinner. Despite its immense social media hype and great reviews across the board, all eight episodes within season 1 were released mid-May, and it wasn't until September that the show got a season 2 renewal.Rachel Sennott's new comedy series, I Love LA, got the full HBO treatment: A huge marketing campaign, a second season renewal within the same month that it premiered, and a substantial budget to accommodate its cast and guest stars. In practical terms, the show hasn't quite found its audience like Girls did in 2012 and like Insecure did in 2016, though it has the potential to run for as many seasons as the aforementioned titles. Last but not least, AMC's impeccable Interview With the Vampire series is returning for a third season under a new name: The Vampire Lestat. There are canon reasons for the title change, certainly, but it'd be dishonest not to acknowledge that season 2 suffered from a Lestat-less storyline. Played by Sam Reid on this TV show adaptation, Lestat is the most interesting character of the universe, and the title change reflects that the show is determinedly urging fans to please come back. These nuances underscore that these shows are either already scheduled to end or are skating on thin ice. And that's not even getting into the complex acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery, which owns HBO/HBO Max, which makes three of the six aforementioned shows. One of the potential buyers, Netflix, is home to another show on the list above. It's unclear which changes will be made and which properties will get cut once a WBD deal is finally made with Netflix or Paramount. At the moment, Heated Rivalry is a map and a destination, but not a blueprint. Franois Arnaud as Scott Hunter and Robbie G.K. as Kip Grady on Heated Rivalry.HBO Max/Crave CanadaIn a parallel multiverse with different U.S. politics and federal administration, we could see Heated Rivalry being a blueprint to inspire more LGBTQ+ shows to be both daring and delicate in their queer storytelling. In this reality, though, queer representation is facing the same decreases as Black representation and Latine representation in mainstream media, both in front and behind the camera. It's hard to imagine that this will suddenly change, out of nowhere, in the next three years.Heated Rivalry will continue to bring joy to its fans and inspire hope for more inclusivity in sports for closeted athletes, but its success will likely inspire a straight, white, American story before anything else that dares to be queer and/or intersectional. As long as Hollywood is at the mercy of federal agencies calling a queer military show "woke garbage" and suspending late-night talk shows due to misunderstood jokes all while witnessing a huge streaming service or a major studio acquiring Warner Bros Discovery it's hard to decisively declare that "I'll Believe in Anything."Thank goodness for Heated Rivalry and all the LGBTQ+ content that does, somehow, makes its way to our screens. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMWhite House website posts topless pic of trans woman in response to critics of East Wing destructionThe White House has updated its website to attack previous Democratic presidents as it lashes out against critics of Donald Trumps destruction of a third of the White House without Congressional authorization. The White House website has a timeline of Major Events that now includes several scandals some real, some imagined by the right likely as a way to justify the presidents destruction of the East Wing this week. These scandals include former President Bill Clintons affair, former President Barack Obamas supposed ties to Muslim terrorism (which was not a real story), Hunter Bidens drug use, and former President Joe Bidens support for trans rights. Related Its time to invoke the 25th Amendment to protect America from Donald Trump For the last one, the website says, The Biden/Harris administration hosts transexuals at the White House in 2023, and goes on to establish the The Transgender Day of Visibility on the same day as Easter Sunday in 2024. That is not true, but it is a recitation of the myth repeated by numerous Republican leaders since 2023. The Trans Day of Visibility was established in 2009, long before Biden took office, and has always been on March 31. In 2023, that happened to fall on Easter Sunday because Easter changes its date each year. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The picture that the Trump White House chose to accompany the statement is also misleading. It comes from a White House Pride celebration held in June 2023, months after the Trans Day of Visibility. At that celebration, trans influencer Rose Montoya went topless with two trans men and posted a video of it to social media. The Biden White House immediately condemned her behavior as inappropriate and disrespectful and banned Montoya from all future events. But the right held on to the pictures and shared them on social media for years. It is unclear why conservatives were so offended by Montoya going topless and not the trans men who were with her if they truly believe that trans women are actually men. | White House website The changes to the White House website come as the president destroyed about a third of the White House without prior authorization in order to construct a ballroom that will cost hundreds of millions of dollars. This comes just months after Trump promised that the construction of the ballroom wouldnt interfere with the current building because itll be near it, but not touching it, and pays total respect to the existing building, which Im the biggest fan of.Chilling satellite imagery shows that Trumps destruction of the White Houses East Wing is even visible from space. The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-10-23T21:01:05.890649ZImages of the destruction of the White House have shocked Americans this past week. 53% of Americans disapprove of demolishingthe East Wing in a YouGov America poll, and only 45% of Republicans support it.Its not his house. Its your house. And hes destroying it, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said. As First Lady in the 90s, she resided at the White House for eight years. Its not his house. Its your house. And hes destroying it. pic.twitter.com/YchFF5U1nO Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 21, 2025White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said yesterday that the ballrooms construction is Trumps main priority, as she claimed that criticism of the destruction is fake outrage and that the ballroom that will replace the East Wing will make the White House more modern and beautiful than ever. The White House claims the ballrooms construction will be privately funded, raising questions about corruption, as critics say donors to Trumps ballroom project could exert undue influence on the administration. So The Peoples House is basically being sold to the highest bidder. It is corruption at its core, out former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said this week. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMStudy finds widespread same-sex behavior among primates & could help explain why nature is so gayWhile homophobes have long claimed that homosexuality isnt natural, a newly published study found over 59 different primate species that exhibit same-sex sexual behaviors (SSB). This finding suggests that SSB may predate the rise of Homo sapiens, modern-day humans. The authors say their findings indicate multiple evolutionary reasons that SSB developed among primates. The first-of-its-kind study, published yesterday in the scientific journalNature Ecology & Evolution, noted that although SSBhave been observed in over 1,500 animal species, very little is known about their evolutionary origins and how ecological habitats may compel animals to exhibit them. Related Gay animal couples have a lot to teach us about love, life, and grieving The studys authors researched 96 peer-reviewed studies documenting SSB to compile one of the most comprehensive datasets for primates to date. The study found that SSB are a persistent and integral component of primate social [practices].In fact, the prevalence of SSB across a variety of closely related primate species and over several lines of descendants indicates a deep evolutionary root or multiple independent evolutionary origins, the studys authors wrote. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Past theories have suggested that animals exhibit SSB to increase group cohesion, to signal dominance among a larger group, to practice for procreative sex, or as a result of mistaken gender identity in species where males and females look similar. Social cohesion was likely a possible reason for SSB, researchers said, especially since they found that the occurrence of SSB was more likely in primate species that live in drier environments where food is scarce and the threat of predators is high; in species that have longer lifespans and greater differences in physical size between sexes; and in species with more complex social structures and hierarchies. SSB [may] strengthen social bonds in extreme climatic environments by increasing grooming [behaviors such a hair cleaning] and proximity interactions, which both buffer the physical stress of harsh climates and help manage group tension during periods of high stress, the authors wrote. They also noted that SSB can help species face ecological conditions that may favor behavioral flexibility and social demands that require sustained social cohesion and alliance reinforcement. That is, SSB can help maintain complex social bonds in situations where flexibility can help a species survival, researchers said. The studys authors noted that individual zoological studies on animal SSB can be difficult to conduct over the long term due to environmental factors, time constraints, or limitations on research capacity. However, the authors said they were particularly interested in learning how SSB among primates might have changed over time in areas that have become drier or more barren due to climate change.Zoologists and animal behaviorists dont call animals gay, lesbian, bisexual, or queer because the word connotes a human sexual orientation with strong cultural and political implications that are irrelevant to non-human species. Instead, most scientists will say that animals exhibit same-sex behaviors or homosexual behaviors. Scientists use these phrases to avoid anthropomorphizing animals and seeing them as imperfect copies of humans, biologist Marlene Zukexplained.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 79 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.LGBTQANDALL.COMHow the LGBTQ+ Community Rethought Homebuying in 2025New data commissioned by Gay Real Estate reveals how the LGBTQ+ community rethought homebuying in 2025.Buying a home is a long-term decision. Stability matters. For many LGBTQ+ people, the idea of where to put down roots includes questions about safety, family recognition, access to services, and the legal protections that will matter for years to come. Why Legal Protections Are Key for LGBTQ+ HomebuyersLegal protections and the wider political climate directly shape where LGBTQ+ people feel able to live long-term because they affect day-to-day safety, access to services, and family security. When laws fail to protect the queer community against discrimination, people may face higher risks of harassment, struggle to access healthcare or housing, and find it harder to build stable relationships or plan for a family. Even in places with legal rights, a hostile political atmosphere can leave people feeling unsafe or unwelcome. This is not just a matter of opinion. People are using protections as a filter when they decide where to buy, raise children, or grow a family. In fact, around of respondents say that the political climate surrounding LGBTQ+ laws is either a top or medium priority when it comes to deciding where to live, and they would avoid moving somewhere because of it. This shifts housing demand, buyer priorities, and the places people will consider for long-term commitments like homeownership. When Protections Make or Break a MoveMany prospective buyers treat local protections as practical criteria, but that doesnt mean every city in a state will be the same. It does, however, mean that protections, or the lack of them, often push a state on or off a buyers shortlist.Key findings show what kinds of rules matter most for housing decisions. More than half of respondents named anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people in housing, employment, and public places as a policy that would impact their relocation choice the most.Other protections that matter include public accommodations, school curriculum laws, and access to gender affirming healthcare for trans people.Thinking about protections this way turns them into a screening mechanism. When buyers are choosing where to look for homes, they factor in the everyday risk of discrimination and the legal support available if problems do arise. That has a direct effect on where demand will concentrate.Adding and Removing States from Your ShortlistThese attitudes produce concrete changes in behavior. Around 22% of respondents said they have added or removed states from their shortlist of potential locations to move to, and a further 11% said they moved or now plan to move to a different state because of the political climate. When you combine those who reported at least one active behavior change, 46.6% of respondents are doing something different as a result of the political climate, whether thats deciding not to buy in the near future or pausing their plans until after a specific law or election outcome. How the Climate is Changing Homebuying BehaviorThe political climate around LGBTQ+ laws is influencing not just opinions, but concrete actions in the housing market. Over 60% of LGBTQ+ homebuyers are actively adjusting their plans in response to legal and policy changes. Some are changing the states they would consider for relocation, while others are pausing or accelerating their buying and selling timelines. A portion of the community has even decided not to buy or sell for the near term.Overall, nearly half of LGBTQ+ adults surveyed reported at least one change in behavior, showing that these decisions are shaping the market even before anyone physically moves. This means demand may start to concentrate in areas seen as supportive and protective, while states perceived as less safe could experience slower buyer activity. For LGBTQ+ buyers, understanding these trends is an important part of planning a home purchase and identifying where housing opportunities are likely to be most accessible.Timing Matters: How Laws and Elections Affect Buying PlansTiming matters for LGBTQ+ buyers and sellers. 11.4% said they paused plans until after a specific law or election outcome, with some (6.6%) respondents bringing forward their buying timeline, and others (4.2%) bringing forward plans to sell. These are real timing changes with consequences for inventory, competition, and price pressure.Buyers who wait can face a tighter market later on if others decide to move sooner. Sellers who delay may miss windows of demand. The net result is a shift in market rhythm caused by legal and political uncertainty.Choosing Where to Live: Blue vs. Red StatesWhen respondents were asked which states they would feel most comfortable living in as an LGBTQ+ person, over of respondents skewed strongly toward blue states. Similarly, an unsurprising yet overwhelming 90.6% agreed that they would feel least comfortable living as an LGBTQ+ person in a red state. While this is based on desired destinations rather than where respondents are currently living, even those living in red states still gravitated towards blue states, telling us the aspirational geography of many LGBTQ+ people is toward places they think will offer long-term stability and protections.Mapping LGBTQ+ Safety and Community SupportThis interactive map offers a clear way to see where LGBTQ+ respondents feel most and least comfortable living. Each state is given a color based on how many people said they would prefer to live there, minus those who said they would not. The map shows a clear pattern. States like California emerge as the most comfortable destinations for many LGBTQ+ adults, reflecting both legal protections and cultural acceptance. In contrast, states such as Alabama are consistently rated as least comfortable, signaling areas where respondents perceive higher risks or fewer supportive resources.By comparing these scores across the country, the map provides a practical tool for understanding how legal and political climates can shape housing decisions. It illustrates not just where people currently live, but which areas are considered viable for long-term commitments, and which may be removed from consideration when planning a move. For LGBTQ+ buyers, the map reinforces the importance of factoring local protections and community support into homebuying decisions.Everyday Life in Blue vs. Red StatesPeoples feelings about their states political climate vary depending on where they live. Respondents in blue states were much more likely to view their states LGBTQ+ climate positively, with over half saying they felt very or somewhat positive. In red states, only 22.1% felt the same. Negative views followed the reverse pattern: 17.1% in blue states reported negative sentiment compared with 43.4% in red states. These contrasting day-to-day experiences help explain why many respondents said they would feel more comfortable living in blue states. The Protections That Really MatterNot all protections are weighted the same. The policy themes that most affect relocation decisions are those tied to everyday stability. For example, over half of the respondents agreed that anti-discrimination protections when it comes to housing, jobs, and public spaces would impact their decision to relocate the most. Family recognition, healthcare access, and safe schools were also highlighted by around 20% of respondents for eachThe post How the LGBTQ+ Community Rethought Homebuying in 2025 appeared first on LGBTQ and ALL.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 55 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

Family recognition, healthcare access, and safe schools were also highlighted by around 20% of respondents for eachThe post How the LGBTQ+ Community Rethought Homebuying in 2025 appeared first on LGBTQ and ALL.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 60 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMDOJ civil rights leaders resign in protest of potential cover-up of ICE shooting of Renee GoodFour leaders at the Department of Justices (DOJs) Civil Rights Division have resigned in protest after the administration announced that it would not be investigating the fatal shooting of queer mom Renee Good in Minneapolis last week by ICE agent Jonathan Ross.Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon decided not to investigate Goods shooting death just hours after Ross shot her three times through her cars side window in a fatal encounter last week. The criminal section of the Civil Rights Division would normally investigate fatal shootings by law enforcement for potential improper use of force, but Dhillon departed from norms in squelching the investigation. Related Trump says Renee Good & her friend are to blame for her death: They were highly disrespectful Investigating officials to determine if they broke the law, defied policy, failed to de-escalate, and resorted to deadly force without basis is one of the Civil Rights Divisions most solemn duties, said Kristen Clarke, who led the Civil Rights Division during the Biden administration. Critics of the administration argued that keeping blue-state law enforcement out of the investigation and confining it to an agency loyal to the president could introduce bias into the investigation, but Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that state law enforcement simply doesnt have any jurisdiction in this investigation. Shortly after Good was killed, Noem said that Ross was acting in self-defense, even though multiple videos of the encounter show Goods car turning away from Ross, and even Ross own cell phone video of the encounter shows him calling Good a f**king b**ch just after shooting her three times. CNNs Jake Tapper confronted Noem with the video on Sunday, and Noem defended her comments by arguing that Good was weaponizing her car.State officials, including Minnesota Gov. WWW.OUT.COMThe Boyfriend season 2 faces a new reality for LGBTQ+ rights in JapanJapan did make some progress regarding LGBTQ+ rights in the two years between The Boyfriend season 2 released today on Netflix and its inaugural season in 2024. Alas, the country is still behind in its support, legitimization, and protections for queer people."Being the first same-sex romance reality show in Japan, we paid careful attention to ensure that the story was an authentic portrayal of these relationships," executive producer Dai Ota told Tudum in an interview. "In season 1, we showed not just romance, but their friendship and meaningful connections with one another. In season 2, we will continue to showcase their compassion and stories of growth, with more unique perspectives and backstories."But where do LGBTQ+ rights stand as this second season of The Boyfriend premieres today on Netflix, and how does this new reality affect season 2? Let's break it down.LGBTQ+ rights in Japan: The years leading up to The Boyfriend season 1. Cast members on The Boyfriend season 1.NetflixSix same-sex couples filed separate lawsuits against the Japanese government to challenge the country's stance on marriage equality in 2019, as reported by The Loop. Generally, the couples argued that a ban on marriage equality was "unconstitutional." The Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly subsequently "committed the city government to raising awareness of LGBTQ people and outlawed the expression of hateful anti-LGBTQ rhetoric in public," as noted on The Conversation.Despite marriage equality in Japan having a "mixed ruling" in 2022, several cities did allow for queer couples to get married by 2023.Within this context, the years leading up to The Boyfriend season 1 had a pretty significant momentum for LGBTQ+ rights in Japan. The very different reality around The Boyfriend season 2. Cast members on The Boyfriend season 2.NetflixIn a shocking turn of events, marriage equality was actually banned in 2025."A court in Tokyo ruled Friday that the country's ban on marriage equality does not violate Japan's constitution," Alex Cooper wrote on The Advocate. "Several court cases in recent years have found the ban unconstitutional, meaning the most recent ruling is an outlier."On the one hand, BBC News reported that Japan wasn't an outlier in Asia. In fact, only Thailand, Taiwan, and Nepal had passed marriage equality legislation. On the other hand, Japan became the only country among G7 nations to not offer protections or marriage equality for people in the LGBTQ+ community. As The Boyfriend season 2 premieres today on Netflix, these cast members are surprisingly experiencing a different set of circumstances regarding LGBTQ+ rights in Japan a negative one, without the same momentum and progress that cast members were navigating in the first season. The Boyfriend season 2 is streaming on Netflix.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 85 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.OUT.COMTessa Thompson to make Broadway debut with Adrien BrodyAfter a delectable portrayal of the bisexual menace Hedda Gabler in the mononymous movie directed by Nia DaCosta, Tessa Thompson is taking her talents to the Broadway stage. She won't be alone as she's joined by two-time Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who is reprising his role in a play called The Fear of 13, written by Lindsey Ferrentino, who recently made her Broadway debut as the book writer for The Queen of Versailles. The play will run for 16 weeks at the James Earl Jones Theater, starting on March 19, with an April 15 opening. See on Instagram According to a press release, the show will follow Nick Yarris (Brody), who spends more than two decades on death row for a murder he insists he did not commit. He is telling his story to a prison volunteer named Jackie (Thompson), and the synopsis for the show says that "as Nick and Jackies conversations deepen, the line between witness and participant blurs, forcing both to confront what justice demands, what belief requires, and the perilous distance between true freedom and the illusion of self-determination."The last time Thompson was in a theater production was in 2016, when she starred in an Off-Broadway production of Smart People with Mahershala Ali and Joshua Jackson. WWW.OUT.COMHow 'AIDS profiteering' doc 'Cashing Out' brought a queer filmmaker closer to his dadCashing Out uncovers multiple uncomfortable truths. The first being the premise: In the early days of the AIDS crisis, before life-saving medications, investors bought out AIDS victims' life insurance policies from them. When the sick person died, the investor received the insurance payout. Another uncomfortable truth came from the director, Matt Nadel, whose father was one of the early investors in this financial practice. The documentary, produced by The New Yorker and executive-produced by actor Matt Bomer and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars winner Angeria Paris VanMicheals, was recently shortlisted in the Best Documentary Short category for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. With this new achievement under their belt, Matt and his father Phil look back and unpack why they felt it was important to tell this story now. "Before directing Cashing Out, I had never put myself or my family on camera," Matt said in a statement. "I was worried about how it would feel to ask my dad uncomfortable questions about his past, how those conversations might strain our relationship, and how audiences would judge his role in an industry that profited from AIDS deaths. What I didnt anticipate, though, was that making Cashing Out would bring us closer."Matt went on to say that he and his dad have very different politics. "He has always been a free-market, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps kind of Florida man," the director added. "But as he participated in the film and, for the first time in decades, revisited his years in the viatical settlement industry, I watched something soften in him." (L-R): Phil Nadel and "Cashing Out" director Matt NadelCourtesy of Matt NadelThe director continued and shared a quote from one of his dad's interviews in the film that stuck with him. "In one interview, he said, 'I realized that people shouldnt have to sell their life insurance policies to live.' Its a simple statement but coming from him, it marked a quiet yet meaningful shift. The process reaffirmed my belief in the power of documentary to cut across political divisions and unify us around shared human concerns like healthcare, dignity, and a meaningful social safety net."In a Q&A with Oscar-winning filmmaker Caroline Waterlow (O.J.: Made in America), debuted exclusively with Out, the director's father, Phil, shared that the film helped him change his perspective on this industry all these years later: "When I made the investment, I thought 'OK, this is a great solution that the capitalist system has come up with to solve a problem for particular individuals.' What I didn't take into account to the same degree back then was the bigger picture about society and the lack of a safety net that most people experience."Phil added, "That was decades ago, and you would think we would have learned and corrected. But instead, today we're living in a world where that safety net is shrinking further." He ended by saying he appreciates that his son, as a filmmaker, is bringing this issue into the spotlight to show that society should work together to protect the most vulnerable individuals.Cashing Out can now be watched (for free!) on Fandango at Home and The New Yorker website. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMJust show up: How to join the fight for LGBTQ+ rights when you dont have a queer loved oneWhen my family first moved to West Texas a little over five years ago, it became clear that our new hometown was not a welcoming place for every member of our family. The local school district had a bullying problem, and for their own safety, we chose to remove our then-teenage child from public school. In the midst of that experience, however, we felt a glimmer of hope as we witnessed another local school district host a collaborative forum to make policy changes that would ensure every student felt safe at school. They reached out to parents with students who were victims of bullying, and school district officials set out to listen, learn, and make positive change. Related Mess and mischief: Why resisting Trump should look less respectable & more playful in 2026 And yet, none of the voices on the panel for this policy forum included LGBTQ+ students or their families. The most recent GLSEN School Climate Survey reports that 8 in 10 LGBTQ+ youth experience bullying or harassment at school. And for years, students across the country took the CDCs Youth-Risk Behavior Survey and taught us that LGBTQ+ students are more than twice as likely to experience school bullying as their straight peers. Im a cisgender, straight woman who was raised Catholic. But I knew it was my responsibility to educate myself and provide support structures for our family, including a strong community. So my husband and I set out to join and strengthen community spaces where every member of our family could be themselves and thrive.I got involved with PFLAG and with our local Pride community center. I listened to queer and trans people, not only to help myself and my family, but to help the LGBTQ+ community in the ways they needed. When there was a need from the community, I used the resources I had, whether it was networking with other local community organizations or online with other parents, to help boost the small but mighty local community for queer and trans folks in the ways that they asked. I also organized other parents of queer and trans youth to create spaces of support for us, too.A core source of strength and resilience for LGBTQ+ people and families in our community has been this network of LGBTQ+ people, community groups, and allies. We have an existing source of strength built up when lawmakers have decided to pass or enforce discriminatory policies in West Texas, and we can rely on each other to fight for our pride if others need to step back.Show up, advocate, stick around A group of moms hand out free hugs during the Iowa City Pride parade June 21, 2025 Iowa City, Iowa. | Julia Hansen/Iowa City Press-Citizen / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The last lesson comes from a friend in the PFLAG network in Ohio named Sally. As Congress was debating amendments to the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, many PFLAG families were asked to meet with our senators to share stories about the importance of transgender healthcare. At first, Sally said she didnt think she could or should participate. She wasnt a member of the military, nor did she have a transgender family member. Yet, on the day of the meeting, she showed up. Sally came prepared. She shared a story with a senator about a neighbor who is in the military and the struggles their family has had getting care for a child with diabetes (which is also treated with hormones, in the form of insulin). Further, she shared that her local LGBTQ+ community in that senators hometown was strong and said they would be monitoring the senators actions on this and other issues. That day, through her remarks and advocacy, Sally made a difference. The lesson here is you dont have to be a member of a targeted group to show up, advocate, and stick with them. This whole year, PFLAG has been organizing and training family members and LGBTQ+ allies to become advocates who not only share in LGBTQ+ Pride, but who fight for it, too.Because if theres one thing we know, its that when you really think about how things will impact the people in your community, it makes it very hard to support legislation and people who will harm them. A city spokesperson told KSAT that the new sidewalk art would recognize and support the LGBTQ+ community, while city council member Sukh Kaur said she hoped the community would recognize that the city was not just completely taking off the crosswalk without showing any kind of pride in that area. But last week, a pair of unlikely allies filed a lawsuit against the city, aiming to halt both the crosswalk removal and sidewalk art installation. As the San Antonio Express-News reports, Pride San Antonio and the Texas Conservative Liberty Forum alleged in their complaint that the citys approval of the $170,000 project without input from the public amounts to unlawful expenditure of unappropriated public funds. KSAT reports that neither group took a position on the merits of the crosswalk removal or the sidewalk art in their lawsuit. However, according to the Express-News, Pride San Antonio hopes to block the removal, while the Texas Conservative Liberty Forum aims to block the sidewalk installation. They said in a statement that the company would seek an amicable early termination of its affiliation agreement with the Kennedy Center and resume operations as a fully independent nonprofit entity.I am deeply saddened to leave the Kennedy Center, Francesca Zambello, who has been the operas artistic director for 14 years, said in a statement reported by The New York Times. I have been proud to be affiliated with a national monument to the human spirit, a place that has long served as an inviting home for our ever-growing family of artists and opera lovers. In November, Zambello broached the possibility of leaving the center as ticket sales dried up. The director said the Trump administrations policies had shattered the confidence of donors and resulted in a 40 percent drop in ticket revenues. If we cannot raise enough money, or sell enough tickets in there, we have to consider other options, she told The Guardian. The final straw for the opera company may have been Trump renaming the living memorial to President John F. Kennedy after himself in December. The WNO was a founding arts organization at the Kennedy Center, first taking the Opera House stage in 1971, the year the center opened. The company entered its current affiliation agreement with the center in 2011, when high attendance wasnt enough to keep the company financially solvent. The WNO ceded some programming and management decisions to the center in exchange for financial support. That decision is coming back to haunt them under the weight of Trump and Grenells politically charged control. The company has a new website and says its lining up alternative venues around Washington for its planned spring season. How those shows are paid for may hinge on what happens to the WNOs $30 million endowment, which is already a matter of dispute. Grenell will doubtless use it as leverage in negotiating the opera companys exit from the center. But the opera companys departure is far from the only drama unfolding at the Kennedy Center. Grenell is already under investigation for corruption at the beleaguered cultural institution. The Left continues to try and silence people they dont agree with, Grenell said in his post claiming a hack and the pursuit of its perpetrators. But they will never succeed, he added, a tragic heros prediction if there ever was one.The beleaguered Kennedy Center director soldiers on through trials and tribulations. pic.twitter.com/i5fg9adXhm Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) January 10, 2026Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 73 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

A viral clip of Rudd writhing in agony on a stretcher later went viral online. @rickglassman @Take Your Shoes Off Podcast has more about what happened. Later in the episode, Rudd returned with bandages and pretended to have soiled himself because he "took too many painkillers," so Glassman and Duncan (Cera) help him change out of his ruined pants. As they got the actor out of his pants, the editor blurred out his privates, but the image doesn't leave much to the imagination. (L-R): Michael Cera (as Duncan), Paul Rudd, and Rick GlassmanTake Your Shoes Off with Rick Glassman/YouTubeLooking back on the experience, Glassman seemed to be taken aback by Rudd's manhood. He told the actor, "You have a huge penis. You do you have a huge penis. The 56-year-old actor continued to play along with the bit and said that he doesn't remember much from that day, but also said he didn't realize that the other men saw his appendage."It was hard it was soft to miss," Glassman joked. "Do you feel like people dont know how big your penis is? Rudd replied by saying that he's never been naked in a movie, "I'm a fairly private person. I dont wanna just be wagging my dick all over the place. Im not Harvey Keitel in The Piano."The podcast host capped the bit by asking Rudd when he realized he had a decently sized package. Rudd responded that it was probably around junior high, that he was actually "more embarrassed" than anything, and that it made him "very self-conscious" when showering after gym class.Appropriately, Rudd is currently starring in the big-snake production of Anaconda alongside Jack Black, Thandiwe Newton, and Steve Zahn. WWW.OUT.COMLGBTQ+ groups tell ICE to 'leave Minnesota' after killing Renee Nicole GoodMinnesota's LGBTQ+ groups have a simple but pointed message for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the state: Get out.Over a dozen local and regional queer organizations have united to mourn Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old poet and mother-of-three fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday, while calling for the agency to cease operations in their communities. "In Minnesota, we take care of one another," Andi Otto, executive director of Twin Cities Pride, told The Advocate. "We stand up for each other, walk alongside our neighbors and recognize that what makes Minnesota truly great is the diversity of cultures that shape the communities we call home. We strive to live our most authentic lives, and for many of us, that feels incredibly challenging right now."Related: Who was Renee Nicole Good? Remembering the Minneapolis poet and mother killed by ICE Good's killing occurred after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deployed roughly 2,000 federal agents in the state as part of an aggressive crackdown on supposed fraud. Secretary Kristi Noem said that rioters began blocking ICE officers during what it called targeted operations" near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, alleging that Good weaponized her vehicle by attempting to run over agents. Noem labeled Good's actions as "domestic terrorism" and those of the officers as "self defense," but multiple eyewitness accounts and video footage from the incident contradict this. The footage shows Good was attempting to leave the scene by turning right when an agent, identified as 43-year-old Jonathan Ross, circled her vehicle from the front and opened fire into her driver's seat window. The vehicle then crashed into a nearby light post, with Ross then walking away from the wreckage uninjured. Footage Ross took from his own cellphone shows that he was not in the path of the vehicle, and that he called Good a fucking bitch" after firing.Protests have erupted across the nation in reaction to both Good's killing and the increasing number of ICE raids, which have become increasingly violent. The LGBTQ+ groups, 17 in total, issued a joint statement on Friday calling for the agency to deescalate. "We know this is only one of many deaths ICE is responsible for causing," the groups wrote. "The harmful and indiscriminate operations that are taking place now are deeply impacting the safety and well being of our communities, businesses, schools, and places of care and worship. They make all of us less safe. And they must stop."See on Instagram"We specifically recognize the appalling injustice and injury of members of our Native communities who have lived on this soil for generations who have been detained in operations on suspicion of immigration violations," they continued. "And, we recognize the continued injustices to our Somali, Latino, Southeast Asian and Hmong communities; as well as to our state's Black and Native communities who have all too often been the target of state and systemic violence."The groups have issued three demands:"ICE to leave Minnesota and cease these harmful operations throughout communities across the nation.A full, fair, and complete investigation conducted in cooperation with state and local partners; to ensure trust and bring those responsible for this death to justice. The immediate stop to the sharing of dangerous misinformation and rhetoric about this tragedy, our state's richly diverse communities, and the many tragedies that Minnesota has experienced."Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey who have disputed the DHS account of Good's killing, with Frey dubbing it "bullshit" have also called for a thorough investigation and for ICE to withdraw its agents from the state. Neither seem likely to happen, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has since announced that it will be solely leading the inquiry into Good's death, freezing out the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.Related: We've all seen the video. Do Kristi Noem and mainstream media think we're stupid? Noem said over the weekend that "hundreds" more officers would be deployed to Minneapolis, nearly five times exceeding the number of police officers employed by the city (585, according to state records). Until they leave, the groups fear residents and visitors will be at risk."Our community is deeply intersectional, and every part of that intersectionality is essential to who we are," Otto continued. "The heightened presence of ICE in Minnesota threatens that sense of safety and belonging, and we are not okay with that. We stand together as a community and will continue to advocate for the fair and equal treatment of all."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 49 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMacKenzie Scott just made a $45 million donation to LGBTQ+ youthBillionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott just donated $45 million to the Trevor Project, an organization that runs a crisis line for LGBTQ+ youth. It is the largest single donation that the organization has ever received and comes as its government support has been reduced by the current administration.I literally could not believe it, and it took some time, Trevor Project CEO Jaymes Black told the AP. I actually gasped. Related The Trevor Project saved my life. Now its losing millions in federal funding thanks to Trump. A CDC study in 2024 found that 41% of LGBTQ+ youth had considered suicide in the previous year and that one in five LGBTQ+ young people had attempted suicide. The Trevor Project used to get some federal funding for operating LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services for the federal 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. But the current administration cut funding to that initiative in July. The funding cut came after Trevor Project was targeted for years by the right with accusations of grooming children that had no basis in reality. Conservatives claim that the organization is somehow making kids become LGBTQ+, which is not possible. Instead, the organization provides support for LGBTQ+ youth. In 2023, the Trevor Project underwent a round of layoffs after depleting reserve funds. We are a smaller organization than we were before, Black said. And we will continue to be really intentional and really mindful around growth and what growth really means for the organization.Black said that Scotts donation could help the organization survive this difficult period in its history. MacKenzie Scotts folks were clear, like this gift was made for long-term impact, they said. Scott is an early contributor to Amazon and was married to co-founder Jeff Bezos from 1993 to 2019. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMFear & instability: A trans man craves a sense of home while battling Trump for the right to existAs part ofLGBTQ NationsJanuary issue, we asked readers to tell us how one year of the second Trump administration has affected their lives and what they hope LGBTQ+ leaders and allies do differently in 2026.We received dozens of submissions and will be sharing them throughout the month (you can also still submit). Today, we will share thoughts from Ash Orr, a 35-year-old queer trans man and trans rights activist who is currently battling the Trump administrations anti-trans passport policy. Related Bruised but still here: A trans woman learns to speak louder the more Trump tries to silence her The ACLU filedOrr v. Trumpin February after the president signed an executive order declaring that there were only two immutable genders: male and female.Afterward, Secretary of State Marco Rubioorderedthat all passport applications requesting an X gender marker be suspended, as well as any applications listing a persons gender identity rather than the sex they were assigned at birth.Heres what Orr had to say about the first year of Trumps second term. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today How has living under the second Trump administration affected you personally over the last year?Over the past year, Ive experienced a heightened sense of fear and instability as a transgender man living in an increasingly hostile political climate. Policies, rhetoric, and public discourse have contributed to real-world consequences for my safety and well-being. My husband and I ultimately made the difficult decision to leave my home state of West Virginia because it no longer felt safe for me to live openly and securely there.I am also a named plaintiff in Orr v. Trump, a case that reflects how deeply federal actions can affect the daily lives of LGBTQI+ people. While the legal process is ongoing, the experience itself has underscored how vulnerable trans people can become when protections are weakened or removed. The cumulative impact has been emotional exhaustion, anxiety, and the loss of a sense of homebut also a clearer understanding of how urgently our voices need to be heard. What do you hope to see from LGBTQ+ leaders and allies in 2026?In 2026, I hope to see LGBTQI+ leaders and allies act with sustained courage and clarity not just in moments of crisis, but consistently. That means defending trans lives in concrete ways, pushing back against harmful narratives, and prioritizing the safety of the most vulnerable members of our community, including those forced to relocate for their own protection.I also hope allies understand that visibility alone is not enough. We need action: legal advocacy, material support, and a willingness to stand firm even when it is politically inconvenient. Most of all, I want a future where LGBTQI+ people are not asked to prove their humanity or justify their existence, and where no one has to leave their home just to feel safe.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 51 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMFBI launches investigation into ICE shooting victim Renee Good for her ties to activistsThe FBI is investigating whether Renee Nicole Good, the queer 37-year-old mother who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent last week in Minneapolis, had connections to activist groups opposing the Trump administrations brutal immigration enforcement campaign.According to the New York Times, sources familiar with the probe say that the Justice Department intends to cast a wide net, investigating activists involved in the January 7 protest that preceded Goods death, who they believe instigated the shooting. Related DOJ civil rights leaders resign in protest of potential cover-up of ICE shooting of Renee Good They also said that it seems increasingly unlikely that Jonathan Ross, the 43-year-old ICE agent who fired three shots into Goods SUV, killing her, will face criminal charges, according to the Times. As the Times notes, the move is in keeping with the Trump administrations efforts to blame Good for her own death, as well as its broader efforts in recent months to falsely paint progressive activism and constitutionally protected protest as domestic terrorism. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today President Donald Trump and top members of his administration have been relentless in their characterization of Good as a domestic terrorist. In the immediate aftermath of her death, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed that Good weaponize[d] her vehicle and attempted to run a law enforcement officer over a characterization disputed by witnesses and local law enforcement, and contradicted by multiple videos of the incident. Noem doubled down on her claims during an interview with CNNs Jake Tapper on Sunday, describing Goods alleged attack on Ross as an act of domestic terrorism.During a January 8 White House press briefing, Vice President JD Vance claimed, citing no evidence, that Good was part of a broader leftwing network that used domestic terror techniques. This is classic terrorism, Vance said, according to The Guardian. And after posting, falsely, on Truth Social that Good viciously ran over Ross, Trump told a group of reporters on Air Force One this weekend that Good and her wife were professional agitators again, citing no evidence. We are going to find out whos paying for it, Trump added. The Trump administrations campaign against progressive organizations and activists ramped up in the immediate aftermath of anti-LGBTQ+ Christian nationalist activist Charlie Kirks September 10 slaying. The president explicitly blamed the radical left for Kirks death even before a suspect was apprehended, while Vance blamed left-wing political radicalization. Trump and his allies signaled their intention to use the killing as a pretext to crack down on organizations that fund progressive causes. As the Times notes, last month Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a memo expanding the definition of domestic terrorism to include impeding and even doxxing law enforcement officers. Opposition to immigration enforcement, anticapitalism, and hostility towards traditional views on family, religion and morality were among the political and social agendas Bondis memo claimed domestic terrorists use violence to advance, according to the Times.Thomas E. Brzozowski, the former counsel for domestic terrorism in the Justice Departments national security division, suggested to the Times that in characterizing Goods actions as domestic terrorism before the completion of a deliberate and considered investigation, Trump administration officials are simply turning the term into a political cudgel to bash ones enemies. At the same time, he noted that Bondis memo complicates things because it builds in a set of assumptions about what domestic terrorism is. If youre an investigator in the field, you cant simply run away from this new definition [of domestic terrorism], Brzozowsk explained. You have to deal with it.The Times reporting on the investigation comes as four senior officials in the DOJs Civil Rights Division have resigned in protest of the administrations decision not to investigate whether Ross violated Goods rights. Last week, the FBI said it would take full control of the investigation into the shooting, excluding state law enforcement from access to case materials, evidence, and witnesses. Critics of the administration argued that keeping blue-state law enforcement out of the investigation and confining it to an agency loyal to the president is likely to bias the investigation.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 68 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMSupreme Court hearing on trans sports bans focuses on biological advantagesThe Supreme Court heard three hours of oral arguments on Tuesday about whether states can ban transgender girls from competing on girls and womens school sports teams. Numerous media outlets have said that the court seemed sympathetic and supportive of state bans on trans female athletes, but the justices comments were difficult to interpret. The cases before the court are West Virginia v. B.P.J., which involves 15-year-old West Virginia shot-putter and discus thrower Becky Pepper-Jackson, who has publicly identified as female since the third grade; and Little v. Hecox, which involves Lindsay Hecox, a 25-year-old Idaho resident who sued after Boise State University refused to let her try out for the womens track and cross-country teams. Related MacKenzie Scott just made a $45 million donation to LGBTQ+ youth Both won lower court injunctions that allowed them to compete, despite their states bans on trans female athletes. Hecox ultimately chose not to try out for her universitys teams, something she and her lawyer argued made her case moot, though the Supreme Court justices said on Tuesday that theyll decide on that point in their forthcoming ruling.Because both Pepper-Jackson and Hecox began hormone blockers before puberty, the court arguments focused on whether trans girls and women have physical advantages over cisgender girls and women. Lawyers supporting trans athletes said that medical transitioning erases such advantages; the lawyers in favor of state bans disagreed. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The arguments didnt focus much upon whether state bans on trans athletes constitute sex-based discrimination in violation of the Constitutions Equal Protection Clause or Title IX of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which forbids educational discrimination on the basis of sex. While the 2020 Supreme Court decision in the case of Bostock v. Clayton County ruled that anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination is a form of sex-based discrimination forbidden by the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the act has treated sports differently due to the Javits Amendment, a law passed two years after Title IXs passage. The amendment specified that schools may enforce sex-based separations in sports, just as long as the general opportunities to participate remain equal for all students, regardless of sex. For example, because of the Javits Amendment, a school may maintain a boys football team and a girls volleyball team without also offering a girls football team and a boys volleyball team, just as long as all students have an equal opportunity to participate in some sport, even if its not their preferred one.During the arguments, both sides interpreted Title IX differently. The anti-trans lawyers said its discriminatory to require female athletes to compete alongside trans female athletes because doing so infringes on female athletes opportunities to excel in sports while allowing biological males to take away their awards and resources. The pro-trans lawyers argued that its discriminatory to ban trans athletes based on the sex they were assigned at birth, since Title IX forbids any discrimination based on sex (a principle upheld in the Bostock ruling).Theres no question here that a male who identifies as a female, but is a male, is being excluded from a female sport, liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor told Idaho Solicitor General Alan Hurst, who is defending his states ban. By its nature, thats a sex classification. And all sex classifications, we have said repeatedly in our case law, require intermediate scrutiny, Sotomayor added, referencing a form of judicial review that would require the court to more skeptically examine the states reasons for adopting its anti-trans sports bans. But Hurst said that even though there has been a history of discrimination against trans people in the U.S., that isnt the issue here. The issue, he said, was whether trans female athletes have distinct physical advantages over their cis competitors and teammates. Hurst said it was clear that cisgender women and girls have lost hundreds of medals to transgender women, but he offered no proof to back up his claim. In fact, Pepper-Jackson is the only known trans student-athlete in his entire state, and even the NCAA recently admitted that fewer than 10 of its 550,000 college athletes nationwide identify as trans.Harnett said that the number of trans female athletes who have participated and excelled in girls and womens sports are few and far between. Focus on trans female athletes possible physical advantages During arguments, Hashim Mooppan, a lawyer for the current presidential administration, argued that no amount of hormonal changes can alter a persons biological sex or gender as defined by state law. In short, male athletes who take performance-altering drugs are not similarly situated to female athletes, and states need not treat them the same, Mooppan said.Hurst also argued that being assigned a male sex at birth provides trans female athletes with countless athletic advantages, like size, muscle mass, bone mass, and heart and lung capacity. In response, Hecoxs attorney Kathleen Hartnett argued that her clients use of testosterone suppressants and estrogen mitigated any such athletic advantages. However, conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch said, There is a healthy scientific dispute about the efficacy of these [medical] treatments in eliminating the athletic advantages of people assigned a male gender at birth, and the courts liberal justices agreed with his assessment. Conservative justices framed some issues dishonestlyConservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett questioned whether a pro-trans ruling in this case would allow boys who just couldnt make the [boys] team because they are just not good enough try to play on the girls team instead, NBC News reported. Her question echoes right-wing transphobic rhetoric and doesnt reflect the reality of trans-inclusive sports policies, which often require athletes to provide a doctors note affirming that they have undergone a prolonged period of medical transition.Barrett also asked Harnett whether the bans are really discriminatory, seeing as trans kids can still compete in the sports matching the sex they were assigned at birth, and trans boys and men can still play on sports teams matching their gender identity. Hartnett explained that her case focuses on trans girls and women, a specific subgroup discriminated against by the law, and noted that past Supreme Court cases have never required all members of an entire class to be discriminated against in order for the court to rule on anti-discrimination protections. Conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh called the growth of girls and womens sports over the last 50 years inspiring and one of the great successes in America over the last 50 years, but noted that the federal government, certain states, the NCAA governing body for college sports and the U.S. Olympic Committee think that allowing transgender women and girls to participate will undermine or reverse that amazing success, and will create unfairness.Kavanaughs comment was disingenuous, however, seeing as the NCAA and U.S. Olympic Committee both allowed trans competitors until very recently, when they banned them under pressure from the current presidential administration. The presidential administration has dismissed trans identity as a mental illness that deserves no government recognition or legal protections and threatened to investigate and prosecute organizations that allow trans female athletes to compete against cis female athletes. Given that half the states are allowing transgender girls and women to participate, about half are not, why would we at this point and try to constitutionalize a rule for the whole country while theres still uncertainty and debate, Kavanaugh said, noting that 27 states currently have bans on trans female athletes. At one point, Justice Samuel Alito asked what to make of cisgender female athletes who have vocally opposed allowing trans girls to compete. What do you say about them? he asked Hartnett. Are they bigots? Are they deluded in thinking they are subjected to unfair competition? No, your honor, I would never call anyone that, Hartnett replied, adding that she only wanted to know whether the states laws meets constitutional standards. That is not an accusation of animus, she added. The case could end Title IXs protections for LGBTQ+ studentsWhen the court asked Harnett to define sex as a way to better understand the constitutional provision that guarantees equal legal protection for people, Hartnett declined, focusing instead that the law forbids Hecox as a birth sex male even though her birth certificate now lists her as birth sex as female. Outside the court, competing demonstrations of pro- and anti-trans groups screamed at one another.Whats at issue in this case is fair treatment for all people, including cis people and trans people, said Josh Block, one of the pro-trans lawyers who argued in front of the court, said on the court steps after the hearing.A decision is expected by summer. If the court rules that trans athletes arent covered by Title IXs protections, the ruling could be used to justify rolling back other trans-inclusive student policies, including the ability to use restrooms, chosen pronouns, and names matching their gender identity. Such a ruling could leave trans students with even fewer legal protections against bullying, harassment, and discrimination, The Guardian wrote. In a statement issued last week, Pepper-Jackson said she plays sports to make friends, have fun, and challenge myself through practice and teamwork. All Ive ever wanted was the same opportunities as my peers, she said. But in 2021, politicians in my state passed a law banning me the only transgender student athlete in the entire state from playing as who I really am. This is unfair to me and every transgender kid who just wants the freedom to be themselves.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 41 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMSix federal prosecutors resign after DOJ demands investigation into widow of woman slain by ICESix federal prosecutors in Minnesota resigned on Tuesday after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) began investigating whether Becca Good, the widow of a queer woman killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent last week, had any criminal associations or ties to anti-government groups. The current presidential administration has repeatedly tried to portray Renee Good, the woman killed by an ICE agent, as a domestic terrorist who was part of a sinister left-wing movement that criminally sought to interfere with ICEs actions. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called the governments characterization of Good bulls**t. Related FBI launches investigation into ICE shooting victim Renee Good for her ties to activists Joseph H. Thompson, the second in command at the U.S. attorneys office in Minnesota, quit after the DOJs push to investigate Becca Good, The New York Times reported. His departure was followed by that of senior career prosecutors Harry Jacobs, Melinda Williams and Thomas Calhoun-Lopez. None of them explained their sudden resignations. The departures come amidst growing public unrest over Renee Goods killing. Harmeet Dhillon, head of the DOJs Civil Rights Division, recently refused to investigate whether ICE agent Jonathan Ross violated federal law by shooting Renee Good in the face three times as she drove away from him last Wednesday morning. Tim Walz (D) expressed regret over Thompsons resignation, calling hima principled public servant who spent more than a decade achieving justice for Minnesotans. Its also the latest sign Trump is pushing nonpartisan career professionals out of the justice department, replacing them with his sycophants, Walz added.Thompson had worked for the DOJ for 17 years, served asacting U.S. attorneyin Minnesota for several months starting last June, and oversaw cases such as the murder of state House SpeakerMelissa Hortman (D) by a right-wing assassin last year.TheTimesreporting on the investigation comes asfour senior officials in the DOJs Civil Rights Division have resigned in protestof the administrations decision not to investigate whether Ross violated Goods rights. Last week, the FBI said it would take full control of the investigation into theshooting, excluding state law enforcement from access to case materials, evidence, and witnesses. Critics of the administration argued that keeping blue-state law enforcement out of the investigation and confining it to an agency loyal to the president is likely to bias the investigation.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 67 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.OUT.COMTig Notaro: 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' shows 'same Tig, different galaxy'Tig Notaro is back at work. The out comic actor is appearing on stage tonight in Fort Lauderdale, the first stop of 40 on what looks to be a nonstop standup tour. Last week, the incredibly moving documentary she produced about her friend, poet Andrea Gibson, Come See Me in the Good Light, was honored with a GLAAD Media Award nomination. And as an actor, Notaro is also starring in Paramount+s newest sci-fi streamer, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, in which she reprises her role from Star Trek: Discovery, Starfleet Commander Jett Reno. Formerly depicted solely as an engineer, Reno is now a teacher and coach at the Starfleet Academy, which can actually fly into space like a 32nd-century Magic School Bus, since it doubles as the starship Athena.Starfleet Academy is the first in the 60-year-old Star Trek franchise to depict the challenges, obstacles, adventures and yes, even sex lives of teenage Starfleet cadets. Viewers will also witness their wild classroom interactions with mentors played by Oscar winner Holly Hunter and Trek veteran Robert Picardo (The Doctor), as well as a scene-stealing, scenery-chewing bad guy played by Golden Globe winner and longtime Trekkie Paul Giamatti.Ahead, Notaro, along with queer cast mates Gina Yashere and Kerrice Brooks, discuss their roles Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.Tig Notaro as Commander Jett RenoOut: How far is the particular role of coach, whistle and all, from the real Tig Notaro?Notaro: I always joke that i'm just Tig in space, but the reality is that I don't really like loud noises, so a whistle is out. I'm also a high school dropout, so I think my teaching skills might be terribly lacking. While I love the idea of being this confident, whistle-blowing, clipboard-holding tough guy, real-life me would probably be like, Youre all doing great, I assume. I didnt see it, but statistically someone must be. Jett Reno has real authority. I have quiet and dry observations. So, same Tig, different galaxy, wildly different comfort level with sports equipment. What can you tell fans about the odds that Jett Reno, a lesbian widow, will find love again -- maybe even with an alien?I'd say that I absolutely cannot say anything other than Jett Reno deserves love again. In any form. With any age-appropriate being.Your character quotes Oscar Wilde in one episode. Is there a quote of his or anyone else's that is meaningful to you? Perhaps you have one from your late friend, Andrea Gibson?I loved when Andrea said: "What kind of poet would I be if I could only make life beautiful on the page." I love that, because it lets that beauty leak off the page and into life.Gina Yashere as Cadet Master Lura ThokThe queer Nigerian-born British comic plays tough-talking Cadet Master Lura Thok, a Klingon-JemHadar hybrid which is a new thing for Star Trek, since until now, all JemHadar warriors were male! But Yashere told Out that Thok is a reminder of how accepting the future will hopefully be.The message that I think that Starfleet Academy gives, is that in the future, it doesn't matter who you are, she said. There's no discussion of whether it's another man or a woman or a transgender person. It's just relationships. And that's what I like, the inclusivity of the show.Kerrice Brooks as SAM: Series Acclimation MilThe queer Black 25-year-old from Washington, D.C. was so moved by how warmly fans received her at New York Comic Con this past summer and their reaction to the show's first trailer that she almost couldnt stop crying. Like Yashere, Brooks plays an entirely new character in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy: the first Kasqian ever enrolled, a sentient hologram known as SAM: Series Acclimation Mil. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, what message does she hope Starfleet Academy is sending the universe? As a member of the community, I would say there's space for us everywhere. So don't ever be afraid to be yourself. Ever, said Brooks. Be you as loudly as possible. Out loud. For real.George Hawkins as cadet Darem Reymi;Sandro Rosta as cadet Caleb MirOut asked some of Starfleet Academy's straight costars what message they think the show sends to the LGBTQ+ community.Wow, said costar George Hawkins, who plays cadet Darem Reymi. I would say everyone is loved. Everyone is loved. You are eternally, eternally loved, no matter who you are.Yeah, for sure, I back that, added newcomer Sandro Rosta, who has the most prominent role in the premiere episode alongside Holly Hunter, as cadet Caleb Mir.Come in, Rosta said. Welcome! Take a seat.Robert Picardo at The DoctorActor Robert Picardo plays the (over) 900-year-old Emergency Medical Hologram, The Doctor, of Star Trek: Voyager fame, and has appeared in dozens of other memorable roles in film and television going back to 1976. He echoed his cast mates' message of inclusion.Every cadet, every crew member is valued for the content of their character, for their contribution to the group and not for the color of their alien skin or human skin or who they choose to love.Mary Wiseman as Tilly View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mary Wiseman (@morywise)One queer actor who joined the cast on the blue carpet last week but whose role is apparently limited in this first season is Mary Wiseman, a veteran of stage and screen who played Tilly on Star Trek: Discovery. She was not made available for an interview but she told Celia Rose Gooding how happy she is to be back in Star Trek.Oh my gosh! I'm so grateful and so honored to get to be a part of it and so happy, said Wiseman. To be a part of the family and get invited to cool stuff and make new friends from different parts of the world. I'm just thrilled and really grateful.Star Trek: Starfleet AcademyThe first two episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, January 15 at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 17 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
WWW.OUT.COMThe soft ache beneath this Spanish town's sun-drenched hedonismSitges is different. It's not your typical Spanish coastal town; it's a place that feels like a promise. A place of hedonism, not just loud and flashy, but quiet, as an attitude, as a way of life.Hedonism: the pursuit of pleasure, sensuality, freedom. Perhaps that's precisely what Sitges is all about, a town that doesn't condemn pleasure but celebrates it. A myth, a refuge, a queer microcosm where different rules apply. A life without shame, without fear, without the constant need to conform. This town by the sea is located about 35 kilometers from Barcelona. The narrow streets of the old city, through which a salty, warm air blows, voices intertwine with music. And in summer, men are everywhere. Since the 1960s, Sitges has attracted them like a magnet that collects desires. Today, it is considered one of Europe's most famous gay destinations. But it's not just about vacationing here. It's about bodies, about closeness, about visibility. Nudity is not taboo, but a matter of course. You can show yourself, desire, lose yourself, without the scrutinizing gaze of the norm. This lightness is rare. This freedom is a state that many have long forgotten. In Sitges, you don't have to conform to belong. No scene, no dress code, no ideal. A silent agreement: everyone is equal. Perhaps that's what makes this place so special. Sitges keeps a promise that many cities only hint at. A place to let go. A place where rules become blurred, and where affection becomes natural. A space where you can be gay without talking about it.And yet Sitges is also excess: intoxication, bodies, parties, and sex. Here, people forget who they are and remember it at the same time. From beaches like Platja del Home Mort or Platja del Balmins, to the cruising forest and the vibrant bars at night, everywhere the same story of lust, freedom, and happiness of not having to hide exists. But for me, Sitges was always romantic. Perhaps naively romantic. Again and again, I tried to see the city as many see it: alcohol, partying, sex, cocks. I would be lying if I said I wasn't part of it. And yet it was never what really interested me. I was drawn to something else: the connections between men that I saw forming. I spoke to many men who told me how they had sex with lots of other men in just a few days. They quickly realized that I was looking for something else.I often asked myself what exactly I was looking for. I was there four times in one year, and each time it was different and yet the same. Different faces, bodies, and stories. And yet there was the same longing: for closeness, authenticity, and love.I saw myself in them. We shared the same hunger for belonging, for a place where you can just be. A different kind of closeness developed between us. Not physical, but emotional. A quiet trust between strangers. My gaze on the men was never sexual. It was romantic, vulnerable, open. In Sitges, I often fell in love not only with people but also with moments, glances, conversations, and a laugh that lingered. This place softened me. It showed me a side of myself that I hardly knew in Berlin. While others lost themselves in the night's excesses, I found myself. And yet, after every trip, a trace of heartbreak remained.Perhaps because Sitges reminded me of something I was looking for but could never quite grasp.Bennet Bckstiegel is a Berlin-based photographer who works in documentary, portrait, and editorial photography.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 17 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMFamily of queer woman killed by ICE agent requests non-violence for meaningful changeThe extended family of Renee Good, the queer women recently shot to death by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, requested privacy, protection, and care for Goods three surviving children and thanked everyone who has spoken out for meaningful change after her death, but added that she wouldnt want violence committed in her name, The Guardian reported. The publication spoke to relatives of Goods late husband, Timmy Macklin Jr., the father of her youngest son. Macklins parents and siblings described Good as an extraordinary mother, devoted, fiercely loving, and always putting her children at the center of the world. She was full of heart and never defined by malice. Related People all over the world send $1.5 million to help Renee Goods family after ICE shot her In a family statement drafted by Goods sister-in-law, Jessica Fletcher, the family said it wished to speak with care, clarity, and love, adding, Theres been so much hateful rhetoric back and forth, and whats been missed is painting a picture of who Renee was.Previously, Goods widow, Becca Good, had told MPR News, Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Goods mother, Donna Ganger, described Good as extremely compassionate, adding, Shes taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving, and affectionate.Goods former mother-in-law, Charlene Fletcher, said, It feels deeply wrong that Renee died in this way. She had a beautiful voice that everyone should have had the chance to hear. The last thing Renee would have wanted was violence carried out in her name. The familys statement said that all three of Renne Goods surviving children deserve privacy, protection, and care as they begin to navigate life without their mother and thanked everyone who has shown up, spoken out, and held space for the family during this incredibly difficult time.We know Renee would be there too, cheering on those who fight for justice and standing with the people, causes, and community she loved. We hope this inspires accountability, compassion, and meaningful change, the statement said. The family statement didnt explicitly mention ICE, the current presidential administration, or its attempts to depict Renee Good as a domestic terrorist. The statements author, Jessica Fletcher, said she deliberately made its message vague, noting, I dont want to open it up into this huge fight with the opposing side. That would just be pouring more gasoline on the fire. But not saying something is political too.In her own statement, Becca Good said of her now-deceased wife, We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day. She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine. On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors, Becca Good added. We had whistles. They had guns.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 40 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
