Queer dancer says DOJ included his pics in Epstein files as part of despicable homophobic smear
Among the numerous celebrities and politicians who appear in photos made public on Friday by the Department of Justices partial release of the infamous Epstein files are images of queer New York City-based drag artist and burlesque dancer Tigger-James Ferguson, according to the British tabloid The Daily Mail.In a statement given exclusively to LGBTQ Nation, Ferguson disavowed any involvement with Epstein and said the images were taken from a nearly 20-year-old public performance at a now-closed New York City restaurant. He also called the inclusion of his photos a seeming ridiculous, despicable attempt at peddling anti-queer rage-bait and threatened possible legal action against the parties responsible. Related Is Donald Trump still governing at all? Meanwhile, Congress members have accused Trumps DOJ of a cover-up and threatened consequences for the departments defiance of the bipartisan congressional law requiring the complete release of all Epstein-related files by December 19.The photos on The Daily Mails recap included images of well-known figures like Michael Jackson, Sir Mick Jagger, Kevin Spacey, former President Bill Clinton, Chris Tucker, Diana Ross, Walter Cronkite, Ferguson, and others. Though the publication didnt name Ferguson by name, Fergusons friends informed him of his inclusion in the tabloids coverage. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In a public Facebook post published on Sunday, December 21, Ferguson wrote, It seems that old photos of me performing #burlesque in Manhattan have been published by trash like the Daily Mail & presented as if theyre part of the #EpsteinFiles WTF!?!Ferguson wrote that the images are of him performing his Lily La Tigresse act, which he has done since 1998. That specific show wouldve been on July 14, sometime from 2004-2007, at one of the annual Bastille Day parties at the legendary #RestaurantFlorent (which sadly closed in 2008), he wrote. Many marvelous downtown NY artists performed on that diner countertop while the patrons ate their French food & drank & laughed & cheered us on. We all knew & loved Florent Morellet, the owner, as well as the staff who worked there. These pictures dont make any sense being a part of those files. Whomever released these carefully selected images mustve decided to toss in the random, unrelated pics of me because they believe that the sight of a gay man in makeup taking his clothes off in public is scandalous enough to outrage their mouth-breathing base, he continued. I guess theyre still trying to peddle the ridiculous, despicable fiction that drag queens = p*dophiles. My image has been used for right wing rage bait several times before, he concluded, but nothing quite like this. Talk about a distraction from the issue! Release the real files, unredacted & undoctored! #releasethefiles In a statement to LGBTQ Nation, Ferguson wrote, I have no way of knowing who might have done this. It couldve been someone at The Daily Mail or the DOJ. Or somewhere else & then The Daily Mail just picked it up & ran with it.I am grateful that whomever it was did such a sloppy job, he continued. It is easily provable that these photos are from the old Bastille Day parties at Restaurant Florent in the Meatpacking District about 20 years ago. It is also obvious that my pictures are just being used as a rage-bait distraction & they have nothing whatsoever to do with Epstein or trafficking. I most definitely have never met nor had any involvement with Epstein or Maxwell or any of those monsters. It sure seems like libel to me, he concluded. They didnt name me and (as far as I know) did not say that where I was nor that I did anything. But they are using my photos dishonestly to paint a picture, and the ugly implications are clear. I will speak with a lawyer friend before I consider any legal action. Bipartisan criticism of the DOJ for breaking the law requiring the release of filesCNN anchor Jake Tappercriticizedthe DOJs heavily redacted documents, saying some were just 100 pages of redaction and noting that the DOJ released just 10% of its total files on Epstein (and that many of the released files were from court documentsalready in the public record). The congressional law requiring the files release required the DOJ to explain its justification for every single redaction and to release the files in a searchable format. The DOJs search tool for the documents was reportedly inoperable. The DOJ has also said that its redactions are solely to protect the victims. Over the weekend, 16 items in the files, including two photos of Trump, disappeared from the DOJ website. The photos showed Trump surrounded by a group of women in bathing suits, and Trump with first lady Melania Trump, Epstein, and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell in 2000. Trump recently relocated Maxwell to a lower-security prison. Soon after, she said Trump wasnt involved in Epsteins misdeeds.Explaining its redactions, the DOJ wrote, Photos and other materials will continue being reviewed and redacted consistent with the law in an abundance of caution as we receive additional information.Republican Congress members criticized the DOJs partial release of the files. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) called it a big mistake for Trumps DOJ to release heavily redacted files, saying the issue could now plague them for months, The Hill reported. Any evidence or any kind of indication that theres not a full reveal on this, this will just plague them for months and months more, he said. So, my suggestion would be: Give up all the information be transparent and release everything the law requires of you.Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said Congress should charge Attorney General Pam Bondi with inherent contempt, which would subject her to a fine for every day she fails to release the complete documents.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Texas judge asks federal court to end marriage equality nationwide
A Texas judge is asking a federal court to overturn marriage equality in the U.S., arguing in a lawsuit filed on Friday that marriage for same-sex couples is unconstitutional because it was legalized in a decision that subordinat[ed] state law to the policy preferences of unelected judges. The case involves Judge Dianne Hensley of Waco, Texas, who has been involved in years of legal proceedings to try to win the right to not perform marriages for same-sex couples while still performing them for opposite-sex couples. She claims that, as a Christian, she should not have to follow state judicial ethics rules about impartiality. Related Texas judge says Supreme Court ruling means she doesnt have to officiate same-sex weddings Earlier this year, Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refused to sign marriage licenses for same-sex couples immediately following the Supreme Courts 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision, asked the Supreme Court to overturn its marriage equality ruling. The Court declined to hear her appeal in November. Now Judge Hensley, who has also refused to perform marriages for same-sex couples since Obergefell was decided, is asking federal courts to end marriage rights for same-sex couples. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Justices of the peace in Texas dont have to officiate marriages, but they can do so on the side to earn extra money. Hensley refused to perform marriages for same-sex couples for years after Obergefell legalized marriage in her state, performing around 70 opposite-sex marriages. Any same-sex couple that asked her to perform their marriage she was the only justice of the peace performing marriages in her city got a message that read, Im sorry, but Judge Hensley has a sincerely held religious belief as a Christian, and will not be able to perform any same-sex weddings. The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct opened an investigation into her discriminatory policy in 2018 and found that she violated state rules requiring judges to be impartial, issuing her a warning. If youre going to perform marriages, you must perform marriages for everyone, said Texas Justice Court Training Center executive director Thea Whalen in 2019.Hensley claimed that the investigation discriminated against her as a Christian, and she sued with help from an anti-LGBTQ+ legal organization, the First Liberty Institute. She eventually got support from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).I have no desire to offend anybody, but the last person I want to offend is God, she said at the time. So Im entitled to accommodations just as much as anyone else. The state supreme court changed the rules in October of this year to allow judges to discriminate against same-sex couples. The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct withdrew its warning against Hensley last year, but, in a filing this year, said judges still cant discriminate in the state. The commission said that the state supreme courts rule change only gives a judge the authority to opt out of officiating due to a sincere religious belief, but does not say that a judge can, at the same time, welcome to her chambers heterosexual couples for whom she willingly offers to conduct marriage ceremonies. So Hensley filed a new lawsuit in a federal court in Waco. The lawsuit asks the court to stop the commission from investigating and disciplining her. She is represented by Jonathan Mitchell, a right-wing lawyer. The Commissions bullying of Judge Hensley and its menacing behavior toward other Christian judges is the direct result of the Supreme Courts pronouncement in Obergefell that homosexual marriage is a constitutional right, Mitchell wrote in the complaint. There is nothing in the language of the Constitution that even remotely suggests that homosexual marriage is a constitutional right.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Mermaids, unicorns, vampires are an empowering part of our queer folk heritage
As a kid, Sacha Coward used to sneak downstairs and watch The Little Mermaid every day before school. He was too young to understand its appeal. As an adult, hed learn that the original fairytale was a thinly veiled tale of heartbreak that the storys bisexual author, Hans Christian Anderson, wrote after his male crush rejected him and married a woman.Coward, who had always been interested in older legends and folklore, eventually made a career working in museums alongside others who shared his passion. But during the pandemic lockdowns, his obsession turned into a hyper fixation. Some of us were making banana bread. Some of us were fixating on the connection between LGBTQ+ people, mythology, and folklore, he tells LGBTQ Nation. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Related Gregory Maguire says he never expected Wicked to reflect Americas slide toward authoritarianism He ended up writing and publishing Queer As Folklore: The Hidden Queer History of Myths and Monsters, a book that explores the deep queer history behind many instantly recognizable folk creatures, like mermaids, unicorns, werewolves, witches, ghosts, and even aliens, pirates, robots, and superheroes. The bedtime stories of mermaids, vampires, and fairies that many of us grew up loving were often created or contain monsters and characters that were inspired by people who had similar lives and loves to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people living today, Coward writes in his books intro. To truly understand who queer people are today involves an adventure into the fantastical stories of our past. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sacha Coward (@sachacoward)Mainstream narratives treat queerness as a modern phenomenon that deviates from the norm and takes childhood fairytale symbols like unicorns, mermaids, and witches and subverts them into something dangerous, Coward says. But our modern-day understanding of these tales often came from sanitized colonial and Victorian retellings that imposed their morality and erased any dangerous, subversive, sexual, or queer content. From Africa to China, to India, to South America, to ancient Egypt and all over Europe, gods and folkloric heroes change sex, fall in love with beings of the same sex, become hermaphrodite, transform into beings of a different sex, or sometimes assume an asexual aspect. From The Epic of Gilgamesh to The Iliad, queer relationships abound, his books introduction states.Cowards book ultimately encourages people to reconnect with this queer heritage as a means of power and possibility. But, in his conversation with LGBTQ Nation, he recognizes that these unsanitized tales also have a sharp edge, one that anti-queer conservatives have tried to turn on queer people as they vilify us as predatory vampires, godless witches, and demonic creatures preying on the innocent.(The following interview has been edited for brevity and clarity.)The cover of Sacha Cowards Queer As Folklore | Manchester University Press LGBTQ Nation: Your book demonstrates how the inherent queerness of creatures like vampires, unicorns, fairies, werewolves, demons, witches, and even robots and aliens, has been hiding in plain sight throughout history. Queer people are quite the same: Were ubiquitous throughout history and culture but havent always been easy to spot unless someone looks in the right place or way.Sacha Coward: The word queer itself gives you the sense of this duality. [It] comes from the Latin torquere, a word which means to twist or to contort. So it has this sense of being strange, odd, and different, and theres a darkness to that, but theres also like a superpower to it as well. So, if you are inhabiting these secret spaces, and youre mixing outside your social comfort zones, you know whether its going to a Molly house (a secret meeting space for gay men) in the 1600s or whether hosting private parties or being part of an arty and bohemian crowd because thats where you find safety and representation you are also mixing up against loads of different ideas, against all kinds of stories and politics that create for really exciting art. Like, yeah, thats the hidden nature of what it is to be queer. We live in such a hyper-manufactured world with AI and fake news, and so someone being really authentically themselves is really compelling to anyone.Im not saying every single queer person is an incredible storyteller; were every kind of person: We are accountants and librarians and dinner ladies and every kind of person. But it does historically and even today, [queerness] does push us slightly towards these creative spaces, and these, these kind of, the, quote, magical spaces. So we are often the little boys that never grow up, or the little girls that never grew up, or the little people that never grew up. And in that there is, theres a sadness there. You know, you can definitely see that the difficulty of being queer historically is really obvious, but we have been so deeply laid into these stories, as creators, as consumers, as the kind of people that carry the torch on. That means that when you look at the history of storytelling itself, the history of fantasy and folklore of creatures and monsters you find secret people like us, very overly represented. We have a very loud voice in those spaces.I understand why its important to reclaim historical figures as gay, like Tchaikovsky, because knowing the creator of The Nutcracker was gay helps us understand our larger social history. But what is the importance of pointing out the historical queerness of creatures like mermaids and fairies? Okay, so theres lots of reasons. The first one is, were often told as queer people that were borrowing something, or that weve actually painted it and stolen it: Why are these creepy gay men into The Little Mermaid? Why are they getting drag queens to dress up like [Ursula the sea witch]? Thats for children youre defiling something! What I want to say to queer people is, you have a right to these stories. You have a right to these spaces. To be honest, even if your ancestors hadnt written them, youd still have a right to them. But it is a really nice thing to be able to push back against some of the culture war nonsense and go, Hey, Marvel, you wouldnt have superheroes if it wasnt for queer people. You wouldnt have them without Achilles and Patroclus. So, you know, youre welcome. Ursula, the sea witch, from the 1989 Disney animated film The Little Mermaid was reportedly styled after the drag queen Divine. The film was based on a childrens story written after bisexual author Hans Christian Andersen experienced an unrequited same-sex crush. | YouTube screenshotTheres a power, and theres a strength to be had in that, which I think particularly for young queer people who are discovering their own loves in these areas [of fantasy], who are, you know, writing lesbian werewolf fiction. Its a little bit of a sense of, Hey, you get to do this because you are part of this. I think thats important. When I wrote this book, I actually wrote a passage in the book saying, you know, in the past, queer people would literally be called demons and monsters, and that doesnt really happen today. I wish I could rewrite that, because its literally happening, right? Those, those exact words trans people in particular, being described as demonic, satanic. These words and these ideas are used to make us feel terrible, to make us feel less than human. And so theres a spark of power and maybe activism or rebellion in saying, No, we actually created those words for you. We actually are written into those stories. And also, this has happened before. Its happened multiple times, weve been cast as these characters, and weve survived it. Your book uses a very wide-ranging definition for folklore, which can include contemporary pop and mainstream culture, rather than just stories, legends, or other myths from an oral tradition. Why?Having spoken to a few like, call them real academics, people that literally live in universities actually, my treatment of folklore isnt that controversial in terms of contemporary analysis. But I also think, if you say folklore has to be really old and it has to be written down in a certain way on dusty manuscripts, and it has to be studied by certain people in certain manners in certain countries, then suddenly you start to limit and limit and limit.Maybe Ursula is actually just a really competent businesswoman, and maybe Ariel needs to stop signing contracts without reading the small print. And you find that actually all the voices that are interesting the voices of women, the voices of queer people, of people of color suddenly, they all get like, erased out of the meaning of folklore, and folklore becomes basically 16 collective books written by white British men in the 1800s and maybe a few Americans, just for spice. And so you limit what is human storytelling, and you also limit the kind of the kind of art forms that express folklore. So folklore, its oral, right? Its storytelling. Traditionally, its something that you know you would tell to an audience gathered around you in our ancient history, thats how we would recount our tales. It would be by spoken word. And that spoken word, it doesnt always get fossilized into written paperwork. And theres a certain privilege that has to happen for that to happen. You know, the 19th-century bloke whos interested in fairies, he gets to pick the stories that he collects from Ireland and then writes them down in his own words, and so you dont have the reality of what was actually going on.But if you start to draw from more sources and say, Well, what does the word actually mean? folk means people, and lore means stories then we tell stories in many ways. We tell them in books: We tell them orally, we tell them in fashion, we tell them every Christmas through Christmas cards, we tell them in a million different ways, and it becomes much more rich. So for me, you start talking more interestingly about human storytelling if you dont go to this really, really narrow definition, I dont see why you would. What would be the point of going for that definition, other than just to limit things, right? There has been a modern trend of queer horror fans reclaiming fright flick villains for ourselves. For example, years ago, gay fans shipped Pennywise the demonic clown and The Babadook (a personification of mental illness) as a gay couple. Does this mean that queer people are becoming less afraid of showing our messy, monstrous sides, or is something deeper going on?Its a separate but connected thing. I also love horror as well. I know a lot of queer people love that sort of darkness. When you are born in a body, in a mind, that is just, quote, wrong, everything in society is telling you its wrong even if you have the most loving parents and the kindest upbringing, whether youre gay, trans, nonbinary that, No, thats not how you should be, youve already broken the rules just by existing. Youre already, in some ways, the bad guy. Youre more like the bad guy in a classic fairy tale than you are like the good guy.Queer people, specifically, when we watch Frankenstein or read the book, we think, What about the monster? How does he feel like? Theres much more pathos because the demonized, the creatures that are supposed to be hated or detested, we know a little bit what that feels like, just to be detested for who we are. So you start to go, Well, what about them? And what about their story? What do they get up to? And whats their motive? Maybe Ursula is actually just a really competent businesswoman, and maybe Ariel [the little mermaid] needs to stop signing contracts without reading the small print. So you start to see these other side things, which I think means we dabble in the dark. And when youre told that youre monstrous a lot, there is a power to go, Great, Ill be monstrous. Look at the Divine, who inspired Ursula, in terms of how she was drawn. As a drag queen, [Divine] would do disgusting things: would eat dog turds [and] say the most provocative awful things comedically, because its like, Yeah, okay. Your system doesnt work. Im going to completely rebel, rebel against it. And most of that, I think, is wonderful and empowering. I work a lot with teenagers, and queer teenagers can be very sardonic. Theyve got this shell that theyve put on already, which is like, Yeah, Im gonna do the opposite of what society wants. Im gonna side with the bad guy. I like the darkness. And this part of me goes, Thats great. And punk, I love it. But what if you want to be fragile? What if you want to be soft? What if you want to be the princess in the tower for a little bit? What if you want to be the gallant hero with not a thought in his head? Id like us to be painting with the full spectrum. So, theres a wonderful power in queer love of horror, scary things, and monsters. But I worry that we start pushing ourselves too far that way, young people who are queer start to think thats the only thing they get to be, and I would like us to be all of it.Furries march in the June 2, 2024, Salt Lake City, Utah Pride Parade. | Shutterstock A chapter in your book says that werewolves and animal shape-shifters can represent the transformative nature of transgender identity and queer life and desire in general. Conservatives in the U.S. have started spreading their own folklore about student furries who dress and behave like cats and dogs, wearing ears and collars and leashes and demanding to use litter boxes instead of toilets. Theres absolutely no real evidence whatsoever that any of this is actually going on. And in the U.S. and abroad, queer people are accused of witchcraft, of being possessed by demons. What do you make of that?We are in these big bubbles of social media that often dont intersect. The extreme right, the homophobic, transphobic right, are getting served a really weird slop that is like distilled from weird elements of reality, like that. There is cosplay I know nerdy queer kids who like wearing cat ears because they like anime I also know, like, within queer spaces, particularly with younger, gender-conforming kids, they will be really playful. They will be like, My gender is spoon, screw you! Theyre not being literal. Theyre just like having fun and being punk. And then that all gets taken out of context, put through the weird gristle mill that is the content mill, and out comes these bizarre stories where youre like, I can always see the touchstones. I can always imagine the websites or the conversations that this, you know, this creator, this person whos made this up, has got their information and then tied it all together into something really weird. And youre right, yeah, these things never happen. We, as queer people, find it very funny when were not being hurt by it. Like, Oh, thats really what you think? Thats wild! I guess the dark thing is, going back to, you know, what weve been saying before, is how believable, apparently, that is, that you can say that about us. Its like the standards for us are already so low that these things are believed. I think that is a frightening thing. The thing is that its a dangerous kind of space to play in folklore, because, on one hand, its a weapon, its a blade that can be used against us. You know, we can be turned into monsters and creatures and dehumanized. What I see is a kind of desire for more playfulness, less kind of burdensome labels and categories towards a much younger, more youthful approach, which is much more fluid and surreal. But also, Ive had some wonderful conversations with so-called conservatives around mermaids, and like, Hey, did you know Howard Ashman was one of the creators [of The Little Mermaid], and he actually contracted HIV shortly after working on [it], and he voiced the songs originally. Can I play you the songs? And if you like the film, and you like mermaids, and like storytelling and who doesnt, unless you really are jaded and cored out the whole of your soul this is actually a really nice meeting place. So sometimes we can actually meet each other, even when our beliefs are very different. When we talk about stories, things that we loved in our childhood, that we share and go, Yeah, I love that too, and you love that. We love them for different reasons. But isnt that incredible? It can be healing, and it can be damaging. I think just like exploring it, though, is a good thing. Tease it apart and kind of open up Pandoras box. It at least allows us to go, Why are these things being said? Why are these ideas embedding so easily? Why is it so easy for someone to imagine a transgender woman being a killer when there have been no serial killers who were trans women? They dont exist outside of films and horror movies. And yet, its an image that is conjured so quickly and easily. So why is that? And if you understand why those ideas have been put into your head, you can maybe push back against them a little bit, possibly.Spike the vampire (R) seizes Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a scene from the beloved fantasy TV show. | The WB From your point of view, is the extreme religious conservatism of this moment giving more queer people an appetite for non-Christian, neopagan folklore-type characters and heroes, or has our communitys appetite for these creatures always been pretty consistent?Im thinking back to, you know, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like [after it came out] every other girl at school was a Wiccan for a while. Thats no disrespect to Wicca. Ive got friends who are Wiccan witches. Young people really they are very playful. If you look at what theyre doing on TikTok, they have this mad irony; I call it new Dada. Like its the reinvention of surrealism, their humor is so off the wall that I think they have a very sort of belligerence. There is a kind of sense of shifting fluidity, even among those who arent queer, that I see around belief and understanding. So you can have young people who will say two things that seem completely contradictory: Im a religious atheist. Like, okay, cool. What does that mean? [Theyre] playing with those ideas and those boundaries. What I see is a kind of desire for more playfulness, fewer kinds of burdensome labels and categories towards a much younger, more youthful approach, which is much more fluid and surreal. Part of what youre saying in your book is that queers can benefit from seeing themselves as part of a magical heritage rather than just mere mortals in our capitalist, humdrum world. What magic, positive or negative, do queer people have to offer real-life cisgender-heterosexual heads of the world? All the time. My God, look at the things that weve contributed to: A voice or a perspective that is from the outside is so, so helpful. And, you know, we have found ourselves massively overrepresented in the arts, fashion, theater, dance, all of that stuff. And, yeah, we can joke that thats because were effeminate and we prance and we have floppy wrists and all that jazz, but its that outside storytelling capacity that I think makes us incredibly genuine.Nowadays were all looking for authenticity. We live in such a hyper-manufactured world with AI and fake news, and so someone being really authentically themselves is really compelling to anyone. And the stories written, reinterpreted, and created, the artwork made by queer people, is enjoyed by everybody, because its just authentic, and its fighting against something. Its pushing back against something. And I dont think cis-het helps anybody, even if youre the straightest cis dude in the world it doesnt allow you be more you. It just keeps that cage tighter. And if you want to live your life without ever changing a thing about yourself, it still doesnt help you Im not trying to convert straight people into being queer. Im just saying You can go to any epoch or time, and you will find queer people creating stuff that everybody loves. And I think its because authentically lived people create really interesting art. People who have had to go through something to find who they are often have a voice that I think is very compelling. No one wants to read the story of Cinderella, where Cinderella starts as a wealthy princess, and shes already kind of proposed to the prince, and they get married, and nothing ever goes wrong. They want to read the story of the underdog that rises. Even in the simplest stories, thats classic, and that is what I think queer people can offer. They can also offer a bit of insight. They can see the walls of the kind of cell that we are all walking around in. And they can go, Hey, just no, that doesnt need to be there. You dont need to do that. If you want to do that, thats fine, but you dont have to. Which I think is why we find ourselves so overrepresented in the arts. You could never remove queer people from society, because, sorry, cis-het people, you keep making more of us.Coward is currently working on his second book with Manchester University Press, Space Invaders, a queer history of video games. FDA threatens companies selling binders: They want to control every ounce of trans peoples lives
Following the announcement from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of new rules that would end gender-affirming care for minors, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) threatened companies that sell chest binders to help with gender dysphoria. The FDA sent letters to 12 companies that sell chest binders claiming that they are violating the law by not registering their binders as medical devices, despite the fact that it has never been necessary. This administration is trying to control every ounce of trans peoples lives and dictate who they can and cannot be, Brandon Wolf, national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, told The Advocate. As life gets harder for the American people at the hands of this cruel and incompetent administration, they are spending their time terrorizing families and harassing companies simply because their products are sometimes used by trans people. Related Trump administration is forcing hospitals to end gender-affirming care for trans minors Letters were sent to 12 sellers of chest binders: TransGuy Supply, ShapeShifter Apparel, The Fluxion, GenderBender, Marli Washington Design, Tomboy X, Flavnt Streetwear, Early to Bed, Tom Scout, For Them, Passional Boutique, and Trans-Missie.Some trans and nonbinary people wear chest binders to reduce the appearance of breast tissue. Before they became more available, it was common for people to wear multiple sports bras at once or to bind with other materials. They provide some support and can mitigate gender dysphoria for some people, but that is not their sole use. They are also used by cis people for both medical and non-medical purposes. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In the letters sent by FDA Director Michael J. Hoffman, much is made of the claims on the sellers websites that these garments can help with gender dysphoria. In the letter to Tomboy X, Hoffman quotes the companys website: Many individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender-fluid utilize chest binding as a way to help manage their own dysphoria. However, in the letter to GenderBender, they include a note from the company that binders, like many gender-affirming items, are also often used by cis people. Chest binding is the practice of compressing breast mass into a more masculine shape, often done in the LGBTQ community for gender euphoria but also practiced by cis men with gynecomastia.Binders are also used by people recovering from mastectomies, a surgery that can be conducted for many reasons.FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said during a speech that the targeting of chest binder sellers was based on their illegal marketing of breast binders for children, for the purpose of treating gender dysphoria. However, none of the letters sent mention children, and the companies that received the letters do not offer binders tailored for children or show marketing materials including children.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Dave Chappelle defends Saudia Arabia set: Trans jokes 'went over very well'
On Friday, Netflix quietly dropped Dave Chappelle's newest comedy special, Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable and in it, he talked about his controversial performance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. In the special, the comedian said that he has no problem taking money from the country because he said, "its easier to talk in Saudi Arabia for me than it is in America," and said that he was almost canceled because he joked about trans people. But, he said, "Ive gotta tell you something transgender jokes went over very well in Saudi Arabia."Chappelle has a history of making anti-trans remarks in all of his most recent standup specials from 2019 to 2022. He's been called out by other comedians for these transphobic jokes yet has still gone on to win awards and get invited to perform on significant stages. It was a shock to most comedy fans when it was announced that Chappelle, along with a host of other prominent comedians, would perform in Saudi Arabia at a new comedy festival. Many in the comedy world (and human rights groups) denounced Riyadh Comedy Festival for its ties to a government known for strict policies and widespread civil and political violations, including the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi and Saudi Minister of Entertainment Turki Al-Sheikhs noted torture of his critics. Not to mention, same-sex activity is illegal and punishable by death in Saudi Arabia. Comedians called out the festival and the headliners who agreed to perform, including Chapelle, Bill Burr, Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, Whitney Cummings, Pete Davidson, and Hannibal Buress, among others. In his special, Chappelle also addressed Charlie Kirk's assassination, sharing that he was "shook" because after news outlets reported, but then later walked back, claims that there were "pro-transgender" phrases on the bullets that killed him, "I was at home like, Oh no! Im dead as fried chicken,'" he said.Nonetheless, Chappelle boasted about taking money from the Saudi government, saying in his special, "Ill take money from Saudi Arabia any day just so I can say no over here. It feels good to be free." He continued, "And I know that the people in Saudi Arabia cant say all the things that I was allowed to say. But a deals a deal, and the king said that I could say these things. So I looked at it like I was on a diplomatic mission: Ive gotta bring pussy jokes to the Middle East. But the comedian said he doesn't "feel guilty at all" and had a few choice words for those who've spoken out against the festival: "These motherfuckers act like because I did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia I somehow betrayed my principles They said, Well, Saudi Arabia killed a journalist, and rest in peace, Jamal Khashoggi. Im sorry that he got murdered in such a heinous fashion. And also, look, bro, Israels killed 240 journalists in the last three months, so I didnt know yall were still counting.

Plastique Tiara and Nymphia Wind's new tour is a 'renaissance of drag shows'
RuPaul's Drag Race superstars Plastique Tiara and Nymphia Wind have officially joined forces for The Serpents Tour, which will slither its way across the U.S. starting January 25 in New York and is currently scheduled to run through February 16 in Portland.Inspired by the classic Asian folktale of the Legend of the White Snake, the show follows two mystical serpents embodied by Nymphia and Plastique on a journey of adversity and sisterhood. On the show, these two stars are serving up fashion, theatrical storytelling, and dynamic performances to celebrate Asian heritage, pop culture, and drag artistry. Moreover, each city in The Serpents Tour will feature local AAPI and LGBTQ+ talent, thus platforming local artists to shine and amplify their unique perspectives. In an interview with Out, Plastique and Nymphia break down their friendship pre- and post-Drag Race, what inspired them to unite for The Serpents Tour, and why fans won't want to miss out on this dazzling production. Nymphia Wind and Plastique Tiara in The Serpents Tour poster.Courtesy of The Serpents Tour Out: What inspired you to do The Serpents Tour inspired by the Legend of the White Snake?Plastique Tiara: The Legend of the White Snake is a story I grew up with across Asian culture. In Vietnamese, it is known as Thanh X Bch X. To me, it is the most cunty Asian mythology. It is layered with love, sacrifice, rebirth, and survival, but it is also about chosen family; that idea of being joined in spirit rather than by blood is something many gay people understand deeply. At its core, the legend is about choosing who you are in a world that often asks you not to exist. Reclaiming that story and turning it into a celebration felt very personal to me.Nymphia Wind: I grew up in Taiwan with the Legend of the White Snake everywhere in movies and pop culture. It's one of those stories that quietly sits in the back of your mind. When we started developing this tour, it felt natural to go back to a myth that already lives in so many Asian kids' imagination. As a queer person, I feel connected to its themes of transformation, forbidden love, and breaking societal rules. Turning this legend into a drag show felt like a way to show appreciation for the classic tale while reimagining it on our own terms.Plastique, you're embodying the White Snake from the Legend of the White Snake. Are there similarities between you and that character?Plastique: The White Snake represents softness that is often mistaken for weakness. She is elegant and nurturing, but also resilient and defiant. I see myself in that duality. Someone who's had to endure quietly and grow stronger, through transformation, is behind this image that most people see as glamour. Her strength is not loud, it is steady. She becomes more herself rather than less, which mirrors my journey in drag and in life. Plastique Tiara in The Serpents Tour poster.Courtesy of The Serpents TourNymphia, you're representing the Green Snake from the Legend of the White Snake. Are there similarities between you and that character?Nymphia: Green Snake has chaotic best-friend energy, and I relate to that, maybe a little too much. She's loyal, impulsive, and always ready to cause trouble for the people she loves. She doesn't behave. She doesn't fit the image of a "good" woman or a "proper" spirit, and that feels very Nymphia. People often see the banana, the silliness, and the camp first But, underneath that, there is someone who survives by turning pain into humor and spectacle. Green Snake survives by staying playful and defiant, and I see my own drag in that balance of clown and guardian. How and when did the two of you become friends, and how did that lead to doing a joint tour together?Plastique: I actually met Nymphia in 2019 at a bar afterparty while I was touring in Taipei, and I remember thinking she was so pretty. It really felt like fate from that day. Years later, on All Stars 9, I was asking production for a needle and thread, and they handed me a Ziplock bag with this super strong thread. On the bag, it said "Nymphia." I laughed because it felt like the universe reminding me of that connection. When we reconnected, there was immediate respect for each other as artists who care deeply about our craft. We come from different seasons and backgrounds, but we share an understanding that comes from being Asian in this industry. From there, creative trust grew naturally, and once we started dreaming bigger together, a tour felt inevitable.Nymphia: I remember coming across Plastique's Instagram way back in 2017, when her eyebrows were arched high on her forehead and she was padded to the gods and doing all the splits and hair tricks. I remember thinking, "This drag queen is so fierce!" A couple years later, she appeared on Drag Race and totally transformed into this unattainable beauty. Cut to 2019 when she came to Taipei, I remember seeing her walk into an afterparty and I gagged because this was someone who I'd been watching through my screen for years. And I was fangirling boots! We reconnected after I got on Drag Race. Getting to know each other, it just made sense to do a tour together. We're both dedicated to showcasing Asian drag excellence through beauty and fashion. It's become a passion project for us to build together. Nymphia Wind in The Serpents Tour poster.Courtesy of The Serpents TourDid you identify any fun or interesting cultural similarities/differences between the two of you?Plastique: People often group Asian communities together, but there are so many nuances within our cultures. Even though Nymphia and I are both Asian, our backgrounds are very different. We grew up with different languages, traditions, and humor. What we strongly share is how deeply we care about our craft. Because we are both representing minorities, we dream big. Our ideas are otherworldly, over the top, and unapologetic, and that shared ambition has made this collaboration exciting and joyful.Nymphia: Exactly what Plastique said. Even though we both spent most of our childhoods in Asia, we've also certainly had very different drag upbringings. It's been fun finding ways to bring our distinct styles together while coming up with concepts for this show.Plastique, what's your favorite thing about Taiwan (Nymphia's home country)? Did you learn anything about its culture through from Nymphia?Plastique: What I love most about Taiwan is the balance between tradition and modern life. There is so much creativity, openness, and pride there. The "Gaysians" there know what is up. Through Nymphia, I have learned that honoring your culture can be playful and bold. She brings joy into everything she does while still being intentional, and that has inspired me to approach my own heritage with even more freedom and fun. Nymphia Wind and Plastique Tiara in The Serpents Tour poster.Courtesy of The Serpents TourNymphia, what's your favorite thing about Vietnam (Plastique's home country)? Did Plastique teach you anything about Vietnam?Nymphia: My favorite things about Vietnam are the beautiful landscapes and architecture, especially in Hanoi. I also think Vietnam has a particularly unique mix of East Asian and Southeast Asian cultural influences. There are also many Vietnamese people in Taiwan, and so it feels so familiar yet different at the same time. And obviously pho! I've been learning some Vietnamese words with Plastique, but they might not be appropriate here. How would you invite fans to buy tickets and go see The Serpents Tour?Plastique: This is more than a drag show. It is a celebration of Asian excellence, but it is also about having fun again. The Serpents Tour feels like a renaissance of drag shows, where storytelling, fashion, humor, and fantasy all collide. It is our love letter to drag and to transformation, with never before seen elements woven throughout the show. We want audiences to laugh, escape, feel inspired, and leave reminded of just how powerful and fun drag can be.Nymphia: You don't need to know the original legend to enjoy The Serpents Tour. People from any cultural background can see themselves in this story. I'm excited for fans to witness the fashion moments on stage that Plastique and I are specifically designing for this tour. Come with an open mind and celebrate drag with us! I hope anyone who sees the show will walk away feeling empowered. For tickets and more information about Nymphia Wind and Plastique Tiara's The Serpents Tour, visit NymphiaPlastiqueLive.com Full schedule of dates for The Serpents Tour.Courtesy of The Serpents Tour

Hate group scores victory & forces foster agency to stop requiring parents to affirm LGBTQ+ kids
The state of Massachusetts has eliminated an LGBTQ+ inclusive policy requiring that foster parents commit to affirming the gender identities and sexual orientations of the children in their care. The change came about after the right-wing hate group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) sued on behalf of two religious foster families who refused to commit to providing affirming homes. Related Christian couple loses foster license after refusing to provide affirming home for LGBTQ+ youth The original policy took effect in 2022 and asked foster parents to commit to creating environments that are safe, affirming, and free from discrimination, harassment, and bullying for all children, youth, and families regardless of sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.Language regarding sexual and gender identity has now been removed. Instead, the policy reportedly requires parents to support a childs individual identity and needs. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Massachusetts has told us that this new regulation will no longer exclude Christian and other religious families from foster care because of their commonly held beliefs that boys are boys and girls are girls, said ADF senior counsel Johannes Widmalm-Delphonse in a statement. Our clients loving, caring foster families who have welcomed vulnerable children into their homes as well as many other families affected by this policy, are eager to reapply for their licenses. This amendment is a step in the right direction, and we commend Massachusetts officials for changing course. But this case will not end until we are positive that Massachusetts is committed to respecting religious persons and ideological diversity among foster parents. ADF argued that the policy violated the families First Amendment rights. The group was bolstered by the current administration, which sent a letter to the states Department of Children and Families (DCF) in support of the lawsuit. Andrew Gradison, acting assistant secretary for the Administration for Children and Families, told the agency that the nondiscrimination policy is deeply troubling, clearly contrary to the purpose of child welfare programs, and in direct violation of First Amendment protections. In the wake of the change, DCF Commissioner Staverne Miller told Fox News Digital(which referred to the original policy as a controversial gender ideology mandate), The Department of Children and Families top priority is providing a safe and supportive home for all children in foster care. We are also committed to ensuring that no one is prevented from applying or reapplying to be a foster parent because of their religious beliefs. Alex J. Adams, assistant secretary for the Administration for Children and Families at HHS, told Fox News Digital that the states policy update is a good first step but warned there will be diligent follow-up to ensure the red carpet is rolled out to all foster families. Polly Crozier, director of family advocacy at LGBTQ+ civil rights organization GLAD Law, which is based in Boston, told GBH she has been troubled all along by the litigation and by what I see as really a deflection away of our state resources, of our focus on where they should be, which is on children and families.Nothing about the change distracts from the fact that the state remains responsible for the safety and well being of every child in this care and that includes LGBTQ children, she emphasized. LGBTQ+ youth are disproportionately represented in the foster care system. A 2019studyfrom the American Academy of Pediatrics found that 30.4% of foster youth identify as LGBTQ+ and 5% identify as trans, compared to 11.2% and 1.17%, respectively, of non-foster youth. The organization Childrens Rights cites several other studies regarding the increased challenges LGBTQ+ youth face in the foster system, including the fact that 44% have either been removed, thrown out, or run away from their home as a result of their identities. These youth are also at higher risk of abuse, institutionalization, and discrimination, and are less likely to find a permanent home before aging out.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Trumps doctors are monitoring the progress of his dementia and/or strokes, psychologist says
A psychologist is speaking out about what it means that the president keeps taking cognitive tests, explaining that Donald Trumps doctors are likely past the point of trying to figure out whether he is suffering from dementia and are now just monitoring his decline.Former Johns Hopkins University Medical School professor of psychology, Dr. John Gartner, spoke withThe Daily Beastabout the three Montreal Cognitive Assessments (MoCA) Trump has undergone this year and said they could be a sign of just how quickly Trumps cognitive state is deteriorating. Related Trumps lesbian niece explains presidents mental decline in just 4 words You know, he kind of gave the game away, as he often does, Gartner said, referring to Trump bragging about taking the test repeatedly. You could maybe justify giving someone the MoCA once, just on their age, just as part of a physical. If youre giving it to him three times, that means youre not assessing dementia. That means youre monitoring dementia. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Gartner also brought up the MRI Trump recently underwent in October. Trump claimed that he didnt even know what body part the MRI scanned a bizarre claim considering how long MRIs take, how noisy they are, how obvious it is which body part is getting scanned, and how doctors dont order such tests without explaining their reasoning to patients. Because if you keep feeling like, no, hes still got the symptoms, weve got to see how bad hes doing now, weve got to check again, see how bad hes doing now I think theyre giving him cognitive tests and MRIs every six months to monitor the progress of his dementia, and/or strokes, Gartner said. We have to judge people against their own baseline, and if somebody doubles their rate of speed, thats a mental status change of some kind, he continued. Trump bragged about the cognitive tests as recently as this past Friday during a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he stressed that his most recent cognitive test was not easy.Nobody on that stand could answer, probably, and I got em, I aced em, he added, pointing to a section of the audience. The first question is like, What is this? And they show a lion, a giraffe, a fish, and a hippopotamus. And they say, Which is the giraffe?' he recounted. It then gets harder! Trump: I took cognitive tests. By the way, not easy. The first question is like what is this and they show a lion, giraffe, fish and a hippopotamus. And they say which is the giraffe. pic.twitter.com/IQhU9pdnMj Acyn (@Acyn) December 20, 2025The White House later claimed that Trumps October MRI was to monitor his heart and abdomen and was preventative in nature. Bowen Yang's 11 most iconic 'Saturday Night Live' characters
After seven and a half seasons as one of Saturday Night Live's brightest stars, Bowen Yang is hanging up his hat. With five Primetime Emmy nominations, Yang is not only the most-nominated Asian male performer in Emmy history, but also one of the most memorable SNL cast members of the last 20 years, and an LGBTQ+ trailblazer."I loved working at SNL, and most of all I loved the people," Yang wrote on Instagram. "I was there at a time when many things in the world started to seem futile, but working at 30 Rock taught me the value in showing up anyway when people make it worthwhile."As a tribute to this comedy great, we're looking back at some of our favorite Bowen Yang characters and sketches on Saturday Night Live over the years. The iceberg that sank the Titanic. One of Yang's most iconic bits on SNL is when he joined Weekend Update as the Iceberg that sank the Titanic, explaining his side of the story and promoting his new "hyper-pop EDM new disco fantasia" album."First of all, you came to where I live, and you hit me!" Yang, as the iceberg says. "And before I turn around, and go like, 'what,' half my ass is gone, which was my best feature, and I'm literally injured, and all anyone cares about is 40 or 50 people died or whatever.""Well, it was 1,500 people," Weekend Update host Colin Jost replies. The Iceberg shouts, "Why are you attacking me?!"Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 46 episode 17, which aired on April 10, 2021.A proud gay Oompa-Loompa.In the buildup to Timothe Chalamet playing "twink Willy Wonka" in the Wonka film, Yang went on Weekend Update as an Oompa Loompa who is outed by Colin on live television. After beginning to read a prepared statement about an Oompa Loompa strike, he's derailed by dealing with his coming out. He tells Colin his parents live in "Loompa Land, it's not as progressive there. They, like, just got Will & Grace. So yeah, it's gonna be a conversation.""Sorry, I'm just curious, do I just give off a gay vibe?" The Oompa Loompa asks Colin. When Colin tells him he has "a lot of product in his hair," the Oompa Loompa responds, "Okay, and you just stepped out of the shower like that with yours? Pot kettle. Okay, wow, I'm being a bitch!""But honestly, it does feel nice to be out. And, I don't know, maybe now that I'm out of the closet, you can come too, Colin," he says.Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 47 episode 3, which aired on October 16, 2021.Dobby discusses J.K. Rowling.Yang has never shied away from calling out bigots and ignorance in his comedy, and in 2025, he took a shot at Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's transphobia when he went on Weekend Update as Dobby the House Elf. A shaking Dobby insisted he wasn't nervous to "publicly weigh in on trans people" and beat himself every time he did something he thought his "master" wouldn't like."Why? Dobby doesn't know," Yang says in the sketch, "Perhaps because house elves are somehow always the problem, even though we're only 1 percent of the population. But house elves aren't the victims; Master Rowling is. She gets so much hate mail."Not even a wardrobe malfunction could stop Yang on this one!Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 51 episode 1, which aired on October 4, 2025.Sara Lee executives meet with social media manager. In this 2019 sketch, Yang and Cecily Strong play executives at food brand Sara Lee, who call in a social media manager (played by Harry Styles) to talk to him about his inappropriate and chaotic queer tweets from the Sara Lee account. The social media posts include comments on a "random fashion twink" that include "a few eggplants, water drops, a train, and a ghost emoji" and a cheesecake caption that reads, "A little moody after being used. Why do guys freak out when I ask them to spit in mouth? Need a real king that can handle. It's 8 am and have to go to hell job at sara lee. A little in my head after another threesome."Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 45 episode 6, which aired on November 16, 2019.Moo Deng comments on newfound fame.In 2024, Yang dressed up as viral baby hippo Moo Deng for a Weekend Update appearance where he called out over-zealous fans of artists like Chappell Roan while getting sprayed in the face with water from a hose and having shellfish thrown at him."Honestly, Colin, sometimes I feel like I live my life in a cage, you know? Like an animal, trapped in a zoo, for people to look at," the zoo star quips. (Yang as) Moo Deng also defends Roan, saying as a fellow viral star, he understands what she's going through."Let her take as much time as she needs for her mental health. We both deserve patience and grace so stop harassing her, and stop throwing shellfish at her," Moo Deng says. "This is what society does: it puts young women on pedestals only to knock them down with shellfish."Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 1, which aired on September 28, 2024.Bowen's straight. When Sydney Sweeney came on SNL as a host, Bowen revealed his greatest secret: He's actually straight and plays a gay character on the show. When Sweeney laments to cast members Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim that she has a crush on Bowen, they encourage the actress to go for it. "Bowen pulls!" they tell her. From there, Yang puts on his best straight-face, telling Sweeney that his type is: "blonde, smart, heavy naturals" and shrugging off Sweeney after they sleep together. "Yeah, I got a lot going on," he tells her. "Plus, I got to keep up appearances with the whole 'gay' thing. It's kind of my meal ticket."Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 49 episode 13, which aired on March 2, 2024.Gay man with a straight male friend. When NFL player Travis Kelce hosted SNL, Yang produced a commercial for a "Straight Male Friend," a "low-effort, low-stakes relationship" that requires "no emotional commitment, no financial investment," and "no drama."When Bowen needs a break from his girl friends, he's able to turn to his straight male friend, a friend who won't talk about his personal problems, doesn't care if he gets ignored for months or even years. The only drawback? He "isn't perfect, and may ask blunt questions about your sex life," but don't worry, "he's only asking because he's honestly curious. There's something sweet about that."Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 48 episode 14, which aired on March 4, 2023.The trend forecasters. In Yang's final SNL episode, his former costar Aidy Bryant returned as the other half of this fabulous duo of trend forecasters on Weekend Update. In their several appearances, the two highly fashionable, cutting-edge trendsetters call out things that are in (shirt too big for body, hat too small for head) and out (movie posters as decor; "Are you a damn Band-Aid? Because I want to rip you off!" Yang shouts). The experts also go over trends in fruit, babies, men, and anything else you might need advice on.Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 47 episode 12, which aired on January 29, 2022.A SoulCycle instructor. In this classic sketch, Yang teamed up with fellow queer cast member Kate McKinnon to play some very intense tryout SoulCycle instructors."I live life with no regrets," Yang tells his class. "Abraham Lincoln died. It didn't have to happen. Poor guy, if I would've been there, I would've stopped it. But I wasn't. Will you be? Let's ride!""This morning I googled 'racism,' and guess what? It bummed me out," he says the next time he gets on the bike. "And then I googled 'gay racism,' and that was even worse. So you know what I did? I flushed my computer down the toilet because I don't need that negativity in my life. Let's ride!"Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 45 episode 3, which aired on November 12, 2019.George Santos's expelled cold open. One of Yang's best recurring characters is former politician and convicted criminal George Santos. In one of his most memorable performances, Yang appeared as Santos in the SNL cold open, holding a press conference after being expelled from Congress."This entire country has been bullying me because I am a proud gay thief," he says. "What else is new? America hates to see a Latina Queen winning. Since the day I was elected, it's been a witch hunt. But if I'm guilty of anything, it's for loving too much/fraud."After explaining that he'll be seen as "the modern Princess Diana" and "the modern Marilyn Monroe, he sings a beautiful rendition of Elton John's "Candle in the Wind," retitled "Scandal in the Wind."Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 49 episode 7, which aired on December 2, 2023.First openly bottom guy on 'SNL.'When Shang-Chi star Simu Liu hosted SNL in 2021, he and Yang made history as the first Asian male host and Asian male cast member to star together in an episode. In this sketch, the two men are having a first-off, bragging about being the "first Asian Marvel Lead" and "first fully Asian cast member on SNL," adding that they got awards for things like "first gay Asian cast member to mispronounce 'boutique'" and "first Asian man to deadpan on Splash Mountain.""You know, it's almost embarrassing, I didn't even tell anyone about being one of People's Sexiest Men Alive.""Weren't you the first openly bottom guy on that list?" Liu asks."I'm not open about that. Who told you that?" Yang responds."Oh, sorry, I just guessed," Liu fires back, prompting a "Oh nice! Good job!" from Yang.Where to watch: Saturday Night Live season 47 episode 7, which aired on November 20, 2021.

NHL: Heated Rivalry is 'unique driver for creating new fans'
The National Hockey League has issued a new statement in which it acknowledges the impact that the Crave/HBO Max show Heated Rivalry has had in welcoming new fans to the world of professional hockey.A new feature story about Heated Rivalry exploring how the show is catering to a "long-overlooked corner of the audience" and has subsequently "caught Hollywood by surprise" was published by The Hollywood Reporter today. Unexpectedly, the story includes a statement from the NHL itself."Even the NHL, which in recent years has been trying to broaden its appeal to gay sports fans with LGBTQ-themed events and nights, has expressed delight with the program," the story on The Hollywood Reporter reads. The NHL statement in question, shared with the publication in response to the success of Heated Rivalry, reads:"There are so many ways to get hooked on hockey and, in the NHL's 108-year history, this might be the most unique driver for creating new fans. See you all at the rink." See on Instagram It's hard to ignore the whimsically vague tone of this NHL statement, though such a thing can be interpreted in different ways. For instance, many hockey fans are thrilled by the idea that Heated Rivalry could deepen the NHL's support for the LGBTQ+ athletes. Meanwhile, other observers have recalled the league's ever-changing stance on outwardly the LGBTQ+ community.A month and a half prior to the Heated Rivalry premiere, Outsports noted that "the NHL stands alone among the Big 4 men's pro team sports with no out gay players." In a recent interview between journalist John Casey and out gay male former pro hockey player Brock McGillis, the athlete recalled how his "career trajectory changed as injuries piled up alongside depression, heavy drinking, and self-harm" while he was still actively playing in the NHL.Generally, women's professional hockey leagues have been starkly different. When considering if Heated Rivalry could have a positive impact on the inclusion of more out gay players, Out noted that the Professional Women's Hockey League has 30 out queer players as of 2025. A similar sentiment was echoed by Heated Rivalry actor Harrison Browne the first out transgender athlete in professional team sports who came out as a trans man while playing in the Premier Hockey Federation (formerly known as the National Women's Hockey League) during an interview with Out.Alas, the dynamics between the LGBTQ+ community and men's professional sports leagues NHL included haven't been as peaceful and straightforward. Given that the NHL has now acknowledged Heated Rivalry's "unique" impact on "creating new fans," one might consider that there's still hope for more positive changes.Heated Rivalry is streaming on HBO Max.

Six of Nicki Minaj's wildest comments at the Turning Point USA conference
Rapper Nicki Minaj continued her descent into MAGA-land over the weekend, joining Erika Kirk at the Turning Point USA conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The four-day conference hosted by the right-wing youth activism group founded by Charlie Kirk featured many conservative speakers, including Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk; Ben Shapiro; Tucker Carlson; Megyn Kelly; and Vice President JD Vance. The event was filled with viral moments, including one where Kirk was talking to a student named Caleb when she had an unfortunate Freudian slip."Despite the devastating loss of Charlie Kirk, my incredible husband, at UVA, Caleb has persisted with the same grift," she said, before changing her wording to "gift" and then "grit."However, many of the conference's most astounding moments come from guest speaker Nicki Minaj. The rapper, who was once a beloved figure in the queer community and has voiced support for the LGBTQ+ community, has been effusive in her praise for President Donald Trump lately, and continued her praise at the conference. As her appearance at the conference makes its rounds on social media, so is a resurfaced video of Charlie saying that Minaj is "not a good role model" for young Black women. He also wrote about Minaj in a post on X, where he said: "Democrats' treatment of Nicki Minaj should be all the proof you need that they don't care about Black people, especially those they cant control." The post continues and says, "They just use them every four years for their votes. But people are waking up."Here are six of the wildest moments that took place during Minaj's appearance at the conference."Super Bass" (@) As Minaj joined the recently-widowed wife of the slain political commentator on stage, the speakers played one of Minajs classic hits, "Super Bass." It was a bizarre start to a particularly uncomfortable conversation between the two women."New Scum" tweets (@) Kirk had Minaj read some of her transphobic and anti-Gavin-Newsom tweets out loud on stage. One of the tweets included the rappers critique of the California governor for saying he wants to "see trans kids.""Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that," Minaj read from her X post. "Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids."Trump is "handsome" (@) "I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president. I don't know if he even knows this, but he's given so many people hope that there's a chance to beat the bad guys and to win and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact," Minaj said.Later, when asked about male role models, she called Trump "our handsome, dashing president."JD Vance is an "assassin" (@) When Minaj praised Trump as a positive role model for young men in America, she also mentioned the vice president."Young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president, and you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president," she said to Kirk, whose husband, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated murdered by an assassin's bullet while he was speaking at Utah Valley University."And when I say that... mmm," Minaj said, before going uncharacteristically silent."Trust me, there's nothing new under the sun that I have not heard. So you're fine," Kirk replied, as Minaj continued to be silent."If the internet wants to clip it, who cares?" Kirk continued. "I love Nicki. She's an amazing woman. She has a soul and a heart, and it doesn't even matter."Christians being "persecuted" in America (@) Minaj and Kirk discussed the issue of Christians in Nigeria, which Minaj has previously praised Trump for. She went even further, saying that America will speak up for Christians wherever they are in the world," and that conservatives need to watch out for politicians who won't stand up for Christians. She said that "prior administrations saw nothing wrong" with Christians being persecuted, "and that's what's wrong with them.""I truly feel that there are people out there who felt good about chastising Christians right here in our country. And its kind of really, really sick," Minaj said. "We can't let people like that be in power, you guys. That's the truth. I can sugarcoat it and laugh and tee-hee, but the truth is, I am here today to tell you guys that we absolutely cannot let people who have a problem with us worshipping God we cannot have them in power.""Boys, be boys" (@) Minaj explained that she is sad that "other children" than Black girls are being told "not to be proud of themselves.""I don't need someone with blonde hair and blue eyes to downplay their beauty, because I know my beauty," she said. She added that she thinks boys are being discouraged from being masculine."Its OK. Be boys," she said. "Theres nothing wrong with being a boy How powerful is that? How profound is that? Boys will be boys, and theres nothing wrong with that."

President discusses wifes perfect panties during economic speech
President Donald Trump mentioned his wifes panties during his rambling 90-miunute speech on the economy at the Rocky Mount Center in Rocky Mount, North Carolina last Friday.During the speech, he mentioned the 2022 FBIs raid to reclaim the classified government documents that he smuggled to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Related Reeks of desperation: Trump slams trans people early in national TV address They went into my wifes closet they looked at her drawers, Trump said, according to People magazine. [My wife is] a very meticulous person Her undergarments, sometimes referred to as panties, are folded perfect, wrapped. Theyre, like, so perfect. I think that she steams them.At other points during his speech, Trump said that he would like to refer to his past political opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as a B word but added, My wife would not be happy. He later proclaimed in his speech, Im a very aesthetic person, believe me, except with women, I dont care what a woman looks like. I used to say beautiful. Now I dont care.Trump has largely blamed the current economy on his predecessor, former President Joe Biden. However, economists largely agree that Trumps unprecedented and chaotic tariffs on foreign trading partners have also had negative effects on everyday consumer spending and business pricing.

Best queer dating shows and where to watch them
Historically, LGBTQ+ dating shows have been iconic, chaotic, hilarious, and dramatic. Unfortunately, there haven't been that many in comparison to the flood of dating shows for straight people. From chaotic bisexual dating shows in the 2000s to attempts of making queer versions of The Bachelor to free-for-all shows where LGBTQ+ cast members are all free to explore connections with one another, fans have been keeping up with several creative approaches trying to reformat this genre of reality TV for queer people. While some of these shows were clearly not taken as seriously as their straight counterparts, queer people have always looked for representation wherever we can find it and that's still true to this day.Queer fans of reality TV are still waiting for a massively successful LGBTQ+ dating show to reach mainstream audiences and air for many years to come. In the meantime, it's always fun to celebrate and highlight the shows that our community has had so far, be proud of the progress that we've made, and appreciate the queer love stories that we currently have access to on reality TV.Explore some of the most popular LGBTQ+ dating shows released over the years, and find out where you can watch these queer reality shows online via streaming services.'For the Love of DILFs'Hosted by Stormy Daniels, For the Love of DILFs is a show where gay men are separated into two groups "daddies" and "himbos" as they all compete for to form connections and find love.Where to watch: OUTtv.'Love Allways'Paramount+'s Love Allways was led by pansexual bachelorette Lexi Paloma. On the show, Lexi explored connections with several single people who were vying for her heart. This dating series was all about "pansexual rights," and it was lovely to see it.Where to watch: Paramount+.'Couple to Throuple'Couple to Throuple is an original Peacock series that, in its first season, featured a gay couple Ashmal Ali and Rehman Bhatti along with straight couples who were all also looking for a third person to join their relationships. For Ashmal and Rehman, that new addition was Jonathan Intriago.Another LGBTQ+ couple that joined Couple to Throuple over the course of season 1 was Maximo Oliveira and Ash and they brought some juicy drama into the series, let's just say that!Where to watch: Peacock.'The Ultimatum: Queer Love'Netflix's original The Ultimatum series created a new, all-queer dating show The Ultimatum: Queer Love, which has aired for two seasons both hosted by JoAnna Garcia Swisher so far.Considering how messy drama, the entertaining contestants, and interesting storylines that this show has featured in the past, reality TV fans will keep coming back for more.Where to watch: Netflix.'Farming for Love'The Canadian dating series Farming for Love showcased queer farmers looking for partners who can adapt to their rural lifestyles. In turn, single contestants come into the dating show ready to fall for someone who's all about that farm life. In the second season of the show, Farmer Kirkland stood out to viewers as he had an entire group of single guys vying for his heart.Where to watch: CTV (in Canada).'I Kissed a Boy'The U.K.'s first-ever gay reality dating series, I Kissed a Boy, was hosted by singer Dannii Minogue and filmed in Italy. So far, this quite popular gay dating show has aired a second season and led to the all-sapphic spinoff I Kissed a Girl.I Kissed a Boy centers a group of queer men who enter a villa looking for love, fun, and flings. Except that, this time, two male contestants that viewers presumed were entirely straight end up confessing that they're acting very horny for each other in the middle of a house party. Those cast members, named Nathan Silva and Bruttoz, have a conversation that is extremely X-rated by any measure. Yet, somehow, that interaction still comes across as pretty earnest and endearing, as they're both clearly nervous while talking about their feelings and don't really know how to go about it.This scenario played out in season 4 of Brazil's Tnel do Amor (which translates to Love Tunnel) on cable network Multishow and streaming service Globoplay (which is available for U.S. subscribers). Nathan Silva was at the center of the discourse regarding this reality TV saga, too, as he literally had never disclosed his feelings for other men, nor the fact that he wanted to explore his bisexuality on the show but didn't anticipate that he would be able to. At a different point in the season, Nathan even got to meet another contestant, Vini, with whom he also shared a pretty steamy kiss.Where to watch: Globoplay.'Perfect Match'Perfect Match has the interesting concept of combining dating show elements to an All Stars-esque cast of popular reality TV stars from across different Netflix shows.Unsurprisingly, Perfect Match does focus on the experience of men and women pairing up together as straight couples, even though the series encourages its cast members to "explore their sexualities." One reality TV icon who has always understood the assignment was Too Hot to Handle legend Francesca Farago, who ended up getting matched with Abbey Humphreys (Twentysomethings: Austin). And they just went for it! Giving fans a glorious moment of queerness on a mainstream dating show on Netflix.Where to watch: Netflix.'Are You the One?'Season 8For the first time in reality TV history, season 8 of MTV's Are You the One? featured an all-LGBTQ+ cast of contestants.Specifically, all contestants on Are You The One? season 8 identified as pansexual, and the season which aired in 2019 was also praised for featuring trans cast members on a dating show. In its first season, 12 Dates of Christmas featured three leads, one of whom (Garrett Marcantel) was a gay man. Viewers were then introduced to Garrett's various love interests over the course of the season.Queer representation was turned up even higher in the second season. Among the three leads, one was a gay man (Markelle Smith) and another was a lesbian woman (Amanda Grace Jenkins). As a result, two third of the overall cast for this dating show consisted of queer love interests vying for either the gay lead or the lesbian lead.Unfortunately, 12 Dates of Christmas was reportedly one of 87 shows that were canceled and removed from the HBO Max catalog, as reported by IndieWire. Other chopped TV shows with LGBTQ+ talent and storylines included Legendary, Generation, and even Westworld.Where to watch: Unavailable.'Bachelor in Paradise' Season 6Overall, ABC's The Bachelor has been overwhelmingly straight (and mostly white) when it comes to its choices for leads and contestants. However, the franchise did feature one LGBTQ+ storyline in season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise when contestant Demi Burnett revealed that she had just gotten into a relationship with a woman prior to filming the show. The woman in question who had never appeared on television before was Kristian Haggerty, who was brought into Bachelor in Paradise and ended the season engaged to Burnett.Where to watch: Hulu.'Bobby I Love You, Purrr'After going through a very public breakup with his ex-boyfriend, social media influencer and reality TV star Bobby Lytes got his own dating show titled Bobby I Love You, Purrr. That person goes through a series of dates that take place on different nights (but are all edited together for our viewing pleasure). The end result of each episode is always interesting, besides the fact that it's quite revealing in terms of how people really act like on a date.Where to watch: Netflix.'The Bi Life'Right after winning Celebrity Big Brother 21 in the UK, Courtney Act was hired as the host of a bisexual dating show called The Bi Life. The series wasn't necessarily received well by the critics or the public, but it was still a TV show that made history for its wide visibility of bisexual people on reality television.Where to watch: Hayu (select locations).'Dating Unlocked'Dating Unlocked is an LGBTQ+ dating show from Canada with single contestants who compete in games and go through elimination rounds for the chance to "unlock" a second date. The series, which can be streamed on OUTtv in the U.S., has had two seasons thus far.Where to watch: OUTtv.'The One That Got Away'Prime Video's The One That Got Away had a pretty interesting concept for a dating show: Instead of making brand-new connections and forging deep romantic relationships in just a few weeks, these cast members had the chance to reconnect with a special person who they considered "the one that got away."While the show featured a few straight couples, it had queer icon and Out100 honoree Betty Who as the host of the entire series, as well as Jeff Perla and Alex Van Gurp as a prominent and entertaining gay couple.Where to watch: Prime Video.'Love at First Lie'MTV's Love At First Lie featured quite a few LGBTQ+ couples. For instance, the cast included queer couples like Stephanie and Arabella; Jake and Alfie; Tom and Steven; Fannie and Clove; and Jack and Joe.Generally speaking, the premise of this show was a challenge for the couples to spot which pair of lovers among them was actually fake (not a real couple at all), all while actually going through the motions of being in a dating competition.Where to watch: Paramount+.'Sparks Camp'Season 1 of Sparks Camp had our eyes glued to the screen. Thankfully, a second season of this beloved queer reality dating series was picked up, featuring an all-new cast of Pinoy heartthrobs for viewers to root for.Where to watch: YouTube via @BlackSheepPH.'You Hauled'You Hauled is a lesbian dating show featuring a group of single queer women looking for love. Leaning into the stereotype that lesbians fall in love too quickly and move in right away with one another (thus needing to rent a U-Haul), the tagline of this fun and wild dating show is, "Move in or move on!" We're here for it.Where to watch: YouTube.'Finding Prince Charming'One of the first major gay dating shows to happen on cable TV was 2016's Finding Prince Charming. This series from Logo TV featured Atlanta-based interior designer Robert Sepulveda Jr. as the lead, as well as eight contestants vying for his love and attention. Ultimately, Sepulveda chose Eric Leonardos as the winner, but their relationship didn't last long after the show.Where to watch: Logo TV.'A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila'It was literally groundbreaking for a social media personality like Tila Tequila to identify as bisexual in the 2000s and then land her very own bisexual dating show on MTV.On A Shot at Love, 16 straight men and 16 lesbian women competed to win over Tila Tequila's heart. In subsequent years, Tila Tequila became a much more polarizing figure and also denied ever being attracted to women in any way, claiming that she only did and said such things for A Shot at Love to work as a dating show.Where to watch: The Roku Channel.'Next'The campy and hilarious Next was an episodic speed-dating show that involved as many as five people at a time. This chaotic reality TV gem aired on MTV between 2005 and 2008 and even though the overall series had very few episodes featuring LGBTQ+ contestants, watching this show was a kiki and a good time no matter what.Where to watch: Paramount+.

Analyst has one word to describe Donald Trumps historically low approval ratings
CNN polling analyst Harry Enten recently boiled down Donald Trumps current favor with the American people to one word: awful. At this point in his presidency, Trump has a plus-one net approval rating, and Enten explained that the only president in history who has had a worse number than that at this juncture is Trump himself during his first term, when he was polling at minus-eight. Related Trolls are hilariously spamming Donald Trumps anti-DEI snitch line The word here that I would use to describe Trump is awful, Enten said. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Hes making gains, but hes doing worse than everybody else. The average president at this point, get this, plus 27 points on their net approval rating. Donald Trump is doing historically awful. The only person he beats is, again, himself from term number one.Enten also said Trump is polling almost 20 points less than the average president on the economy, which his colleague reminded viewers was the issue he was most elected to fix, and he said he would do it on day one. He beat himself on overall, but on the economy, he cant even beat himself, Enten said. Again, this is historically the worst going back in polling at this point in a presidency, the net approval rating on the economy. Hes right now at minus four points. In term number one, he was at plus-eight points. Historically, the average is plus 15 points. On net approval rating, he is historically doing awful, awful, awful, weak, weak, weak and on the issue on which he was elected to, of course, fix, he is doing historically awful. This is not good. If this number holds, you can guarantee his overall approval rating will go down and it could take his entire presidency with him.Enten predicted tariffs will only make Trump more unpopular, as a majority of Americans oppose them. UK has issued over $43 million in LGBTQ+ military reparations, but there are still more to go
It has been one year since the United Kingdoms Ministry of Defence launched its Financial Recognition Scheme (FRS) for LGBTQ+ veterans who were discriminated against during the militarys ban on homosexuality. FRS has now paid out millions in reparations, but the new Minister for Veterans, Louise Sandher-Jones (Labour), is urging more to come forward as the applications slow.Reaching every eligible veteran remains our most significant challenge, Sandher-Jones said in a statement. We are working to connect with the community individuals who may have understandable reasons to be cautious about engaging with Defence communications. Many carry the weight of past mistreatment, and rebuilding that trust takes consistent effort across multiple channels, from traditional media to working closely with veteran organizations, NHS partners, and veteran employers. Related UK unveils first memorial honoring LGBTQ+ veterans who served under anti-gay ban When Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Labour government came to power in July 2024, Alistair Carns was appointed as Veterans Minister, but was replaced by Sandher-Jones when he became the Minister for the Armed Forces. Sandher-Jones took over the office in September this year and is a veteran herself, having served in Afghanistan. The U.K. government is currently in the process of acknowledging the damage that was done by the past LGBTQ+ ban in the military and the discrimination that has been a part of the armed forces. The late Lord Etherton organized the LGBT Veterans Independent Review, commonly called the Etherton Review, which highlighted the horrific conditions that LGBTQ+ military personnel faced under the ban, which was lifted in 2000. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In 2023, then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak publicly apologized for the ban. Earlier this year,King Charles III attended the unveiling of the U.K.s first memorial to LGBTQ+ veterans, which also emphasized the struggles caused by the ban and the investigations LGBTQ+ people were subjected to. Both of these and the reparations from the FRS are part of a list of 49 recommendations from the Etherton Review that the government has committed to completing. The Financial Recognition Scheme launched on December 13, 2024. Since then, it has received 1,312 applications, 983 of which have been processed with decisions issued. Each application in the scheme is eligible for up to 70,000 ($95,000), and the program has now paid out over 32 million (over $43 million). Those include Discharged/Dismissed Payments (DD), Impact Payments (IP), and applications for both. The FRS program has not been without challenge or controversy. LGBTQ+ veteran advocacy group Fighting with Pride has been heavily involved in the process and holding the government accountable. That has included highlighting the extremely slow pace of applications early on and speaking up for veterans who have had old wounds reopened by going through the application, only to wait months with no response. However, that appears to be changing. Fighting with Pride (FWP) noted in May that from over 1,000 applications, only 24 had been processed and paid. By October (shortly after Sandher-Jones took on her new role), FWP issued an update stating that, of the 1,212 applications at the time, decisions had been made in 323 of the 924 DD claims and 147 of the 956 IP claims. By their November update, applications had risen only to 1,263, with decisions in 548 of the 952 DD claims and 248 in the 1002 IP claims, since April.Sandher-Jones has acknowledged the issues with the system and noted that records have been hard to track down, and it has been a long time since that ban was lifted. I want to be candid about the challenges we have faced with the Financial Recognition Scheme, she said. Processing applications takes time because we are committed to getting every decision right. I understand the frustration expressed by veterans and organizations like Fighting with Pride, who rightly champion those affected. Their advocacy is important, and we are listening. The stark increase in decisions made suggests that the government is working to meet demands for faster processing times. However, the new challenge becomes getting more LGBTQ+ veterans who were affected to apply. The FRS program is set to close on December 13, 2026, so it is vital that veterans apply before that date. While it is impossible to know the true numbers of veterans who might have been affected by the ban and discrimination in the military, Fighting With Pride has estimated that the number could be around 5,000. Along with the impending closing date, the advanced age and military-related health conditions of many of these veterans mean time is of the essence.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

University formally removes trans TA who gave anti-trans Christian a failing grade
The transgender graduate teaching assistant who gave a failing grade to a students anti-trans essay has been officially dismissed from teaching by the University of Oklahoma (OU). Earlier this month, OU placed trans TA Mel Curth on administrative leave after she gave a student a grade of zero on an essay about a study on gender roles in which the student called trans people demonic. The student, Samantha Fulnecky, filed a religious discrimination complaint with OU in November. Related University dismisses 2nd professor in kerfuffle over anti-trans students essay A statement from the university said the investigation into the religious discrimination claim has concluded, but the findings will not be released.Based on an examination of the graduate teaching assistants prior grading standards and patterns, as well as the graduate teaching assistants own statements related to this matter, it was determined that the graduate teaching assistant was arbitrary in the grading of this specific paper, the statement said. The graduate teaching assistant will no longer have instructional duties at the University. We are committed to teaching students how to think, not what to think, the statement said. It also reasserted a prior announcement that the students grade appeal was decided in her favor, meaning the assignment was removed from her total point value in the class. A statement from the University of Oklahoma: pic.twitter.com/FzcjByOjpp University of Oklahoma (@UofOklahoma) December 22, 2025 The OU chapter of the American Association of University Professors slammed the schools decision.Essentially, nothing is new here, the group said in a statement. OU claims without providing any supporting or specific reasons why Mel Curth was removed. They have claimed in thepast in press releases that this was due to supposed and disturbing claims of religious discrimination thatclash with academicfreedom. Is it now? Instead, they hide behind vague statements and essentially assertions of trust us.At this point, they need to show us and not tell us. And once again, OU is making an employment decision public, which is inflaming the situation. The assignment asked students to write a thoughtful and clearly written 650-word reaction paper to a study about gender typicality (the degree to which a persons perceived behaviors and interests align with societal stereotypes for their gender), peer relations, and mental health. The instructions said the paper should demonstrate a clear tie-in to the study and discuss either the topics importance, its application to ones own experiences, possible alternate interpretations of the studys data, or its relation to other studies and findings in developmental psychology.Inher paper, Fulnecky wrote that people arent pressured to be more masculine or feminine, that she doesnt see it as a problem when peers use teasing to enforce gender norms, and that eliminating gender in our society pulls us farther from Gods original plan. She also said trans identities are demonic and severely [harm] American youth.God made male and female and made us differently from each other on purpose and for a purpose. God is very intentional with what He makes, and I believe trying to change that would only do more harm, Fulnecky wrote. Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. My prayer for the world and specifically for American society and youth is that they would not believe the lies being spread from Satan that make them believe they are better off as another gender than what God made them, Fulnecky concluded, stating that she wished to raise her own children in the belief that our lives and bodies belong to the Lord for His glory.Inher response, Curth to whom the OU Department of Psychology recently gave its Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award wrote that her grade wasnt because Fulnecky had certain beliefs, but rather because the paper does not answer the questions for this assigment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive.Curth notes that Fulneckys response contradictorily claims that people arent pressured into gender expectations even as the student reflects a religious pressure to act in gender-stereotypical ways.WATCH: protest underway at the University of Oklahoma rallying in support of the instructor who was put on leave after giving a student a zero on a psychology paper. @OKCFOX pic.twitter.com/AOoVtwmbXb Grant Palmer FOX 25 (@grantpalmertv) December 5, 2025 Additionally, to call an entire group of people demonic is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population, Curth wrote. Curth noted that every major psychological, medical, pediatric, and psychiatric association in the United States acknowledges that, biologically and psychologically, sex and gender is neither binary nor fixed. The courses instructor, Megan Waldron, added that she concurred with Curths grade on the assignment, writing, This paper should not be considered as a completion of the assignment. Waldron says the course asks students to support their ideas with empirical evidence and higher-level reasoning. Waldron wrote that she found it concerning that Fulnecky didnt consider bullying (teasing) a bad thing, and told Fulnecky, Your paper directly and harshly criticizes your peers and their opinions, which are just as valid as yours. On December 5, hundreds of students rallied in support of Curth, chanting, OU shame on you, Protect our professors, and Justice for Mel. Even students who didnt agree with Curths failing grade for the student agreed that Fulneckys essay was poorly written and that Curth didnt need to be put on leave. The incident has highlighted a growing trend of conservative Christian students publicly escalating their disagreements with professors on LGBTQ+ issues, drawing right-wing support amid the presidents campaign to end LGBTQ+-inclusive viewpoints in schools nationwide. In response to the controversy which unleashed a wrath of transphobic statements from Oklahoma Republicans Fulneckys mom expressed agreement with an anti-trans tweet that called for a ban on any trans people being teachers at all. Critics have noted that the current presidential administrations crusade to end all diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide has encouraged conservative students to challenge and publicly call out any educators who include LGBTQ+ issues in their classroom instruction. These challenges seek to punish and silence any LGBTQ+-allied educators and to uphold conservative viewpoints as valid, even when theyre not based on scientific or academic evidence.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Republicans think that transphobia is their ticket to electoral success. Theyre wrong.
Republicans in the House of Representatives cant get much done except when it comes to attacking the trans community. Then they can still manage to pull out all the stops. Just last week, Republicans, joined by a handful of Democrats, passed a bill to ban Medicaid from funding any gender-affirming care for minors. That was on top of another bill that they passed to criminalize gender-affirming care for trans youth. Related Trumps gender-affirming care ban is why we need Congress to grow a spine The odds for each bill in the Senate look pretty weak. But getting the measures passed into law is not really the point. The point is to gin up an electoral strategy to rescue the GOP from whats increasingly looking like humiliating mid-term elections. Past experience has shown this tactic to be, well, dumb. That doesnt lessen its cruelty, however. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Previous elections are littered with examples of how anti-trans campaigning flopped with voters. Republicans only have to look to last months returns to see just how badly anti-trans attacks fared. In the Virginia gubernatorial race, Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Searsblew through a ton of money on ads attacking Democrat Abigail Spanberger for her support of trans rights. Spanberger walloped Earle-Sears on election night. Similarly, in New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the governorship despite attacks on her support for trans rights, although the losing Republican candidate, Jack Ciattarelli, believed it was a winning issue. The polls showed voters ranked trans issues at the bottom of the list of their concerns. It was a top concern for a paltry 3% of voters in Virginia. Indeed, except for the motivated few, attacking trans issues has been consistently overrated as a winning strategy for years. The problem is that, when an anti-trans candidate wins, the mainstream media are quick to pin victory on the anti-trans attacks. The most significant case in point is Donald Trump in 2024. Trump spent millions on an ad showing pictures of Kamala Harris next to a drag queen, a trans woman, and a nonbinary person. The ad ended with the tagline, Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you. Republicans were quick to hype this as a winning issue for the party. The mainstream media echoed that hype, even though polling showed the economy was by far the biggest concern for voters. Transgender rights ranked at the bottom of a Gallup poll list of the most important issues in the election. Part of the reason that Republicans think transphobia is a winner for them is that Democrats act as if it is. It is far easier for the party leaders to scapegoat the trans community for their shellacking last year instead of grappling with the real problem: the party has no real vision for the future. One appeal that transphobia has for Republicans besides their natural affinity for it is that its a distraction from issues that they dont want to address: Jeffrey Epstein, affordability, and an increasingly erratic president intent on converting D.C. into Pyongyang on the Potomac. Trump keeps echoing his anti-trans attacks, but even he cant escape voter disdain for what Republicans have done to the nation. However, as with all things MAGA, the cruelty is the point. Even a losing strategy will still inflict untold harm on transgender people, especially trans youth. The move by Robert Kennedy Jr. and his fellow anti-science junkies to cut off any money for trans youth care will increase the risk of suicides. But the Trump administration already addressed that: it ended funding for the LGBTQ+ youth suicide hotline. Instead, the administration wants to channel trans youth into the equivalent of conversion therapy. If lives are lost, Republicans dont care, even at the cost of their own electoral success.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Erika Jayne says Amanda Frances upsets everyone on 'RHOBH' season 15
There's a shakeup coming in the 90210!The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has hit a milestone 15th season on Bravo and the drama is still being served from a champagne flute.Heading into the new season, two fresh faces are joining the popular cast. Bravo alum Rachel Zoe and self-made multi-millionaire Amanda Frances are bringing a new energy into the group."People like to see new energy! They like to see different reactions. We're a tight-knit group of people, so of course, new blood is going to shake things up," Jayne tells PRIDE. See on Instagram As new episodes begin to roll out, Jayne isn't the only cast member who seems to get into a disagreement with Frances. In fact, it looks like Frances has a hard time gelling with any of the ladies."That can be a problem. If you piss everyone off, then what? Everybody reacts differently and sometimes you need a break, but what you do need to have is a point of view and you need to be able to express that."It's no easy task filming a reality show alongside many TV veterans, so Jayne is offering her own advice to anyone hoping to join an ensemble cast."My advice to anyone coming on would be to have a point of view and don't be afraid to speak your mind. Don't look for backup, because it's not coming."Besides hitting her tenth milestone season on RHOBH, the star is also going back to her roots as DJ Pretty Mess by performing all throughout 2026. Her mission? To give the gays everything they want."It's always for the gays! Who do you think it's for? All my life, my mentors and teachers have been gay people. To be an ally of the gay community is important. We need to show up for one another!"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Thursday nights on Bravo. The University of Oklahoma graduate assistant who gave a student a failing grade on an anti-transgender paper will no longer be teaching at the university, officials said Monday.Graduate teaching assistant Mel Curth, who is trans, was placed on administrative leave a few weeks ago after giving student Samantha Fulnecky a zero on her psychology paper. The paper described transgender people as demonic and asserted that gender roles are Biblically ordained.Fulnecky claimed the grade was retaliation for her religious views, but Curth said the zero was based on academic criteria. Curth wrote that the essay does not answer the questions for this assignment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive. Curth also noted that portraying a marginalized group as demonic is highly offensive and urged the student to use empirical sources rather than doctrinal statements when critiquing course material. The university posted a statement to social media Monday saying the graduate assistant was arbitrary in the grading of this specific paper and will no longer have instructional duties. It did not name either Curth or Fulnecky, but their names have been disclosed elsewhere. (@) The statement said the university had investigated the students claim of religious discrimination but would not release the findings. The university had already decided on her appeal of her grade and removed the paper from her total point value for her class, so there was no academic harm to her, the statement noted. The University of Oklahoma believes strongly in both its facultys rights to teach with academic freedom and integrity and it students right to receive an education that is free from a lecturers impermissible evaluative standards, the statement continued. We are committed to teaching students how to think, not what to think.Related: From Riley Gaines to OU, conservatives are making their failures everyone else's problemThe schools chapter of the American Association of University Professors thought little of the universitys statement. Essentially, nothing is new here, a spokesperson for the chapter said in a statement to TV station KFOR. OU claims without providing any supporting or specific reasons why Mel Curth was removed. They have claimed in the past in press releases that this was due to supposed and disturbing claims of religious discrimination that clash with academic freedom. Is it now? Instead, they hide behind vague statements and essentially assertions of trust us. At this point, they need to show us and not tell us. And once again, OU is making an employment decision public, which is inflaming the situation. The university has placed a second instructor on leave after, according to school officials, she told students they would be excused from class to attend a protest in favor of Curth. Student newspaper OU Nightly identified Kelli Alvarez as the instructor for the course, which is English composition.Kalib Magana, president of the University of Oklahomas Turning Point USA chapter, asked whether counterprotesters would also receive excused absences. Alvarez replied that a counterprotest must be organized. None was, but several conservative students made their views known at the pro-Curth demonstration. Magana filed a complaint against Alvarez with the university. Turning Point USA is a right-wing student organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk.Related: Texas college students report increase in harassment, mistreatment amid academic LGBTQ+ crackdownThere has been controversy over issues of gender identity at other universities in conservative states. Melissa McCoul, a professor at Texas A&M, was fired in September after a student complained about McCouls discussion of the topic. In November, the Texas A&M Board of Regents barred faculty from discussing race or gender ideology in the 12 universities it oversees.

15 queer moments that made 2025 the horniest year ever
As 2025 comes to a close, you may be tempted to write it off as a crummy year full of rising political tensions and rough personal times, but that would be completely ignoring what made the year so great: just how horny pop culture was.Yes, the rising tide of conservatism makes us feel like puritanism has taken hold once again, but if TV shows, movies, and the candid way celebrities are talking about sex are any indication, the anti-sex contingent of the population is losing. This was an especially horny year! We were gifted with a gay hockey romance show that taught straight people what frotting is, so many celebrity thirst traps we didnt know what to do with them, and a red carpet moment that brought an A-list celebrity together with a group of leather daddies. What more could you ask for?'Pillion' red carpet kinkPillion, about a dom/sub relationship between a biker gang leader and a nervous young man who learns to lick boots and don a lockandchain collar, wont hit theaters in the U.S. until February 2026, but the red carpet events have already been incredibly kinky.Between Alexander Skarsgrd kissing Pedro Pascal when the movie premiered at Cannes to men in leather daddy outfit from a gay motorcycle club attending premiers (including someone in a pup play mask) to Skarsgrd wearing leather pants and a backless, sleeveless shirt and leather tie the one of the premiers, there has never been kinkier red carpet moments since Mia Goth led Skarsgrd around with a collar and leash.'Heated Rivalry'Heated Rivalry is the show on everyones lips as 2025 wraps up, and for good reason. We get to see Ilya (Connor Storrie) asking for consent in the sexiest way possible, hot rough sex, emotional and tender sex, and the best frotting scene well probably ever get on TV.Hudson WilliamsSee on InstagramFrom daring fans to get freakier to telling them, Dont be nice to me, spit in my mouth, to praising co-star Connor Storries butt, Hudson Williams has said some wild and horny things while promoting Heated Rivalry. We hope he never gets media training!'Olympo'Netflixs Olympo may be YA, but dont let that fool you, its also incredibly queer and spicy. Another show about queer athletes, the show is a combination of high-stakes drama and steamy tension that has us craving a second season. The show is so hot, the shower scene between Roque (Agustn Della Corte) and Sebas (Juan Perales) in episode 3 even made our list of the steamiest gay shower scenes.'The Hunting Wives'The Hunting Wives took Netflix by storm earlier this year and gave us some of the spiciest sapphic moments on TV. The wild plot lines, Brittany Snow and Malin Akermans insane chemistry, and a pegging scene made it one of the horniest shows on TV this year, and the internet couldnt stop talking about it. KATSEYE scissoring on stage@lollapaloozaCant stop thinking about @KATSEYE #katseye #lollapalooza : @Respective CollectiveThe girl group KATSEYE had a lot of sapphic moments this year, but their performance at Lollapalooza was definitely the hottest. Chest binder vendors respond to 'absurd' FDA warning letter: 'Clearly discrimination'
In an already small market, companies that sell chest binders aren't going to let threats from Donald Trump's Food and Drug Administration stop them from serving their LGBTQ+ customers. The FDA sent warning letters Tuesday to 11 companies TransGuy Supply, the Fluxion, GenderBender LLC, ShapeShifter Apparel, Marli Washington Design, TomboyX, FLAVNT Streetwear, Early to Bed, TOMSCOUT, For Them, and UNTAG (formerly Trans-Missie) threatening them with fines and seizures for not registering their binders as Class I medical devices. The companies have never been required to do so before, because binders have never been considered medical devices before. "There are absolutely medical treatments and procedures that do treat gender dysphoria, but trying to call a chest binder a medical device, specifically because it is marketed towards trans people, in order to control it and make it inaccessible, is absurd and clearly discrimination," Xander Shephard, director of GenderBender, told The Advocate. "Regular chest binders for pre-op use aren't a medical device in the same way that the scissors used to give someone a gender-affirming haircut aren't a medical device," they added. "Push-up bras, which can be a gender affirming garment and also temporarily shift breast tissue into one's desired shape, would never get called a medical device maybe because the people in power want to see more minor's boobs, not less."FDA Director Michael J. Hoffmann claimed in the letters that "these products are [medical] devices because they are intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or to affect the structure or any function of the body." Hoffman referenced information from the companies' websites that claim the products can alleviate gender dysphoria.Gender dysphoria, which is a specific type of stress that arises when ones gender identity does not match their sex as assigned at birth, is classified as a medical condition. However, chest binders have no use beyond aesthetics they only slightly flatten one's chest, and the effect disappears as soon as the binder is removed. They are frequently used for costumes in both theater and cosplay, being comparable to shapewear, compression clothing, or sports bras."I hadn't even used the term 'gender dysphoria' in reference to the binders on my website ... a term this administration has had no respect for until they found a way to weaponize it against us," Shephard said. "Crazily enough, I was actually cited for using the term 'gender euphoria,' which isn't even a medical term, but simply the euphoric feeling of being happy about some aspect of one's gender presentation."Because the letter focused primarily on the language used to market the products, specifically anything that could be interpreted as medical treatment, Auston Bjorkman, owner and creative director of TransGuy Supply, said that complying with the orders meant performing an audit of the company's website and updating the product descriptions. Nothing involving how they're made or sold had to change. Bjorkman said the company updated its language to clearly reflect that binders are compression garments, and in replying to the FDA "solidified our stance that we are not selling, as they claim," products that constitute medical devices. "Our focus remains unchanged. We are deeply committed to supporting trans, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, and gender-expansive people through affirming apparel and gear," Bjorkman said. "We also partner with community organizations doing direct care by providing donations and discounted access to our products. We are still designing, manufacturing, and shipping and we remain fully committed to taking care of our people. We will not allow intimidation or targeting to deter us from that work."The letters were sent as part of the Department of Health and Human Services' recent crackdown on gender-affirming care for youth. The agency announced at a press conference Thursday that it is issuing proposals to ban the lifesaving care for those under age 18, and to prevent both Medicaid and the Childrens Health Insurance Program from covering the treatment. While the HHS does not have the legal authority to implement either policy, a bill criminalizing gender-affirming care for trans youth and another bill banning Medicaid from covering the care were approved by the U.S. House of Representatives last week. Both bills now head to the Senate, where it is unclear if they have the support needed to pass.Related: A heart filled with trans hate is how Marjorie Taylor Greene is choosing to be rememberedFDA Commissioner Marty Makary also announced the challenges to chest binder manufacturers at the conference, saying the supposed Illegal marketing of these products for children is alarming. The FDA will take further enforcement action such as import alerts, seizures, and injunctions if it continues. Shephard noted that virtually none of GenderBender's sales come from underage customers, though the firm does "get a good number of supportive guardians buying SAFE gear for teens, which is heartwarming." The product is a popular option because it is "low impact" and not "any more risky than using a sports bra would be."Shephard said the company is consulting with lawyers before taking action or submitting a formal response to the FDA, but that "with the way they're twisting things for the media, claiming we're marketing to children, I might add an age requirement to my website.""I don't think there's a legal reason we can't sell compression tops to people under 18, but frankly, I'm just afraid of what the crazies who believe we're targeting children might do," Shephard said. The companies have been given 15 days to notify the FDA of what they are doing to address the supposed "violations." If the agency is not happy with their responses, they will have to register their products to continue selling them an expensive and lengthy process that is unattainable for most small businesses, especially with the deadline to apply for a decreased fee past. Even if they could apply, approval would be given at the discretion of the Trump administration. Related: Donald Trumps government declares that transgender and nonbinary people dont existFor Bjorkman, the stunt is reflective of what's become a trend in this administration, where "too often, attention is redirected toward marginalized communities instead of addressing systemic issues that require accountability and real solutions.""Targeting people who are already 'othered' is easier than confronting uncomfortable truths," Bjorkman said. "Fear-based narratives about trans people rely on misunderstanding and a lack of empathy, while diverting attention away from harm that is overwhelmingly perpetrated by those in positions of social power. Real progress comes from addressing systemic problems, not scapegoating communities that are already vulnerable."

Nicki Minaj calls Trump handsome & tells trans girls to just be boys

The rappers abrupt public pivot toward MAGA appears to have begun in early November, when she praised the Trump administration for designating Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern due to the alleged mass slaughter of Christians at the hands of radical Islamists in the West African nation. While analysts have noted that extremist groups in Nigeria have in fact targeted people of all faiths with violence, both Kirk and Minaj continued to repeat the administrations contested claim that Christians are being specifically targeted.Minaj went on to claim that prior administrations saw nothing wrong with the supposed persecution of Christians both abroad and in the U.S., and she struck a distinctly Christian Nationalist note when she told the crowd, We absolutely cannot let people who have a problem with us worshipping God We cannot have them in power.Later in their conversation, Minaj returned to her apparent fixation on Newsom when she advised young men not to be Newscum. You have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president, and you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president, Minaj said. Bari Weiss tried to stop a critical 60 Minutes segment from airing. She failed spectacularly.
Bari Weiss, the out editor in chief of CBS News, stopped 60 Minutes from broadcasting a segment this weekend that showed the horrific conditions faced by people the Trump administration sent to CECOT, an infamously brutal prison camp in El Salvador. An apparent error led to the segment being aired, though, making it clear why the administration and Weiss would not want people to see it.We have been promoting this story on social media for days. Our viewers are expecting it. When it fails to air without a credible explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship, said Sharyn Alfonsi, the 60 Minutes correspondent behind the segment. We are trading 50 years of gold standard reputation for a single week of political quiet. I care too much about this broadcast to watch it be dismantled without a fight. Related Who is Bari Weiss and what are her stances on transgender issues? The segment, which is being shared online, focused on the prison where the Trump administration deported many Venezuelan migrants earlier this year. The administration claimed the men it sent to CECOT had ties to gangs, but there was no due process where evidence could be presented, and several of the men have credibly argued that they are not gang members. In a clip promoting the segment before it was pulled, Alfonsi says that she spoke with several men who had since been released from the prison and who describe the brutal and torturous conditions they endured. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today According to insiders, the segment had been reviewed multiple times and was approved for announcement and promotion on Friday. It was then expected to air on Sunday, but the segment was pulled from the episode only three hours before it was scheduled.According to sources who spoke with The New York Times, Weiss viewed the segment on Thursday and offered some suggestions, which producers were happy to accommodate. However, on Friday night, Weiss came back with a different tune, asking for much larger changes. Those reportedly included adding an interview with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, for whom she was able to provide contact information. When it wasnt possible to get a voice for the Trump administration on record in the short span of time, Weiss pulled the segment, suggesting in a statement on Sunday that it was normal to hold stories that lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices. Tanya Simon, the shows executive producer, said that she stood 100 percent behind Sharyn and her story, calling it thoroughly reported. However, Canadas Global TV, which distributes60 Minutesin the country, might not have receivednotice that the segment was supposed to be pulled. The originally planned episode aired on their network in its entirety, and copies of the segment have since appeared online. While some might be taken down, it is likely there will always be a copy somewhere, and, as Democratic Congressional candidateGeorge Conway suggested on X, the controversy could make it the most-watched newsmagazine segment in television history! This could wind up being the most-watched newsmagazine segment in television history!!Congratulations to the Ellisons and Bari Weiss!!! https://t.co/fIxBhemP6A George Conway (@gtconway3d) December 23, 2025The full segment includes harrowing scenes and testimony from the men sent to CECOT. Some said officers told them they would never see the light of day again, while others described the horrific circumstances at the jails. There was blood everywhere, screams, people crying, people who couldnt take it and were urinating and vomiting on themselves, a Venezuelan college student who sought U.S. asylum said. Four guards grabbed me, and they beat me until I bled until the point of agony. They knocked our faces against the wall. That was when they broke one of my teeth.Weiss, who opposes gender-affirming care for trans youth and trans inclusion in sports, was installed as the editor in chief of CBS back in October. The move came after CBSs parent company, Paramount, merged with Skydance, headed by David Ellison, and after Skydance also purchased Weiss own outlet,The Free Press. That merger came after Paramount cancelled the late-night show of Trump critic Stephen Colbert and settled a $16 million lawsuit with the president over a previous 60 Minutes segment. Alfonsi has made it clear in internal communications obtained by The New York Times that she felt that the move to pull the CECOT segment was political. Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.She also added, If the administrations refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a kill switch for any reporting they find inconvenient.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Subscribe to our Newsletter today I just wanted to go out on top, Yang told the episodes host, Ariana Grande.Oh, everyone knows youre a bottom, honey, Grande replied. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bowen Yang (@fayedunaway) It was a tear-filled sendoff for Yang, who announced this month that he would leave the cast after the December 20 show, the final one of 2025 for the NBC sketch comedy series. Hes been with the show since 2018, when he joined the writing staff for the 44thseason. He became a featured player in 2019 and was promoted to repertory status before Season 47.During his seven-plus years with SNL, Yang, 35, has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards, making him the most-nominated Asian male performer in Emmy history. His roles have ranged from George Santos/Kitara Ravache and Charli XCX to Moo Deng (the pygmy hippo) and the Iceberg hit by the Titanic. As Moo Deng, Yang expressed empathy for singer Chappell Roan and the pressures she experienced as a result of her rapid rise to fame. As his reputation and fan base grew, Yang took on more and more acting work outside SNL, including roles in Fire Island, Bros, Wicked, and Wicked: For Good. He co-hosts theLas Culturistaspodcast with Matt Rogers, with whom hes writing and starring in a movie for Searchlight Pictures. His other projects include voice roles in two animated films, Tangles: A Story About Alzheimers, My Mother and Me, and The Cat in the Hat starring Bill Hader. As a gay member of the cast, Yang has played gay characters, straight characters, males, females and everything in between. In some of his most memorable sketches, his characters sexual orientation, if it came across at all, wasnt as important as the absurdity of the situation. In other sketches, it was central to the bit. Besides cracking jokes, Yang often bore the brunt of them. Because he brought a gay sensibility, audiences were exposed to gay jokes and gay humor in ways they may not have been otherwise. In the final sketch, Yang, Cher, and Grande were role-playing, but their characters were metaphors for Yangs own departure from the show. Yang was an employee of Delta Air Lines, working his final day at the eggnog station in the Delta Sky Club lounge at JFK International Airport.Sorry, my machines kind of breaking down, so Im closing my station, he announced. This is my last shift. Yeah, its sad. Im gonna miss everything about this place. The way it smells, the celebrities who would come throughGrande was his sweetie, Rhonda, who was initially talking to him on the phone a stand-in for the shows audience, perhaps, or Yangs fans in general. Cher, the guest singer for the night, played Yangs boss at the airport, a stand-in for SNL producer Lorne Michaels. I wish you were home, but Im so proud of you, Grande-as-Rhonda told him. All the eggnog youve made over the years. Some of it was great. Some of it was rotten. And a lot of it got cut, Yang quipped. But you know, I also think eggnogs kind of like me. Not for everyone, but the people who like it are my kind of people.Grande got off the phone and popped up at the eggnog station: I wouldnt miss your last shift for the world, she told Yang. I cant believe youre retiring. That was the set-up Yang needed to look back on his time at SNL.Oh Rhonda, I should have come home earlier, he said. I just feel so lucky that I ever got to work here. And I just wanted to enjoy it for a little bit longer. Especially the people. Ive loved every single person who works here because theyve done so much for me, especially my boss Any success I have after this will be thanks to this place. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bowen Yang (@fayedunaway)Yang expanded on those thoughts in a post on Instagram, just before the final episode aired.I was there at a time when many things in the world started to seem futile, but working at 30 Rock taught me the value in showing up anyway when people make it worthwhile, he wrote.Im grateful for every minute of my time there, he continued. I learned about myself (bad with wigs). I learned about others (generous, vulnerable hot). I learned that human error can be nothing but correct. I learned that comedy is mostly logistics and that it will usually fail until it doesnt, which is the besssst. As for taking a leap into the future, he knows that preparation is key.The show doesnt go on because its ready, he wrote, but shiiiiit, I hope I am.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Anti-LGBTQ+ attacks rose. But then the neighborhood rallied in a surprising way.
Following an attack on a 57-year-old gay man in October that left him in a coma, and an admission by police that they cant increase patrols in Sacramentos LGBTQ+ gayborhood, residents in Californias capital citys Lavender Heights district are reviving a citizen patrol they call the Lavender Angels.Alvin Prasad was attacked outside the Badlands nightclubas he exited the bar with his daughter on Halloween night. Then, 24-year-old suspect Sean Wesley Payton Jr. made disparaging remarks about Prasad and his flamboyant costume and punching him, and making him collapse onto the ground. Doctors say the result was permanent damage to the front and back of Prasads brain. He remains in a coma. Related His brutal attack left a gay elder in a coma. Now hes facing hate crime charges. At a contentious community meeting with police and local leaders two weeks ago at the areas LGBT Center, residents voiced their frustration over a lack of police presence in the district.I was beaten. I was bit four times. I was shoved into a car twice, one man recounted. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Im tired of feeling bullied out of our own community, said another. This is a really important, emotional issue, particularly following the attack on our community member who is close to us here at the center, the Centers director David Heitstuman told KCRA News. And so its really important for folks to be able to express how theyre feeling about that, and for us to have a discussion about what ongoing threats there are.City council member Phil Pluckebaum was frank about the prospect of increased police patrols in the area.Ill be a little less diplomatic, he told the packed community room. The Sacramento PD is about half staffed, and were not going to be able to make staffing level commitments to meet any kind of service level for the district. So community members are stepping in to fill the void, reviving a citizen patrol that walked the districts streets over a decade ago: The Lavender Angels.Lavender Heights resident George Raya, known by many as the Mayor of Midtown, explained, The police need more eyes and ears on the street. Citizen patrols do that. Raya recalled how the Lavender Angels first landed in the gayborhood in 2012, after a bartender at a local bar started hearing from customers that theyd been victims of hate crimes.Everybody had their cell phone, a flashlight, a vest and a whistle, and we had a special number with the police so we could call and get instant response, Roya told CBS News Sacramento. There have been nearly a hundred bias-related incidents in the area reported to police over the last two years, but the calls dont tell the whole story, Roya said. A lot of crimes go unreported. If you are a victim of crime, report it. If police dont know that theres a problem in a neighborhood, theyre not going to assign resources. The Lavender Angels are there to help observe and report, he said, and hopefully bring back a measure of safety and security to a community that needs it.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Cardi B's Drag Race judge stint is even more iconic amid 'MAGA Minaj'
Brand-new footage of Cardi B appearing as a guest judge on the grand premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race season 18 just dropped. Considering her years-long Nicki Minaj feud, the very recent rise of "MAGA Minaj," and fan-favorite queen Heidi N Closet resurfacing the intensely negative critique she received from Minaj as a guest judge on Drag Race season 12, Cardi B's stint as a season 18 premiere judge is even more iconic and hilarious than it would've already been.It only took a 15-second sneak preview of Cardi B as an extra special guest judge in the season 18 premiere for an already intense discourse surrounding Minaj to escalate into an even wilder social media fight between Drag Race fans, the Barbz, and the Bardi Gang. Before you assume this is just another timeline of the Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B feud that reheats the same crunchy nachos that hundreds of entertainment news outlets, pop culture-specific social media pages, and gossip blogs have covered at length, let us assure you that it is not.Stick around to see what we mean.Cardi B has a kiki with Drag Race season 18 queens in a new video.See on InstagramThe latest Drag Race season 18 preview clip shows Cardi B walking into the werk room and greeting the fierce cast of queens competing on the show. "Hey ladies," she says, while meeting the queens for the first time. The video then cuts to Cardi B already in the judging panel alongside RuPaul and Michelle Visage, Cardi B clearly making a gooped face in reaction to one of the contestants, and remarking that she's "gagging" for whoever that is.RELATED: Open the drag vaults! Meet the queens of RuPaul's Drag Race season 18It's a pretty exciting video of Cardi B having a kiki on Drag Race, but no one could've anticipated the drama that it would create given Minaj's hard-right pivot to MAGA audiences, which has escalated to new heights. This past Sunday, the rapper sat with Charlie Kirk's widow, Erica Kirk, for an event from Turning Point USA in Phoenix, Arizona a moment so wild in pop culture history that even conservative attendees ended up looking shocked.Nicki Minaj praises 'assassin' JD Vance. The most viral and headline-making moment of Minaj's interview with Erika Kirk came as she congratulated certain young people for turning to conservative values and referred to Vice President JD Vance while as an "assassin," as reported by NBC News. Generally, the statement has come off as shocking, confusing, bizarre, and even insensitive."Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president," Minaj said. "And you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president."RELATED: From Messing to Minaj: 11 divas who disappointed LGBTQ+ fansErika Kirk looked stunned in reaction to Minaj's remarks. To be clear: The rapper wasn't just making a pretty wild claim about Vance in the middle of what sounded like a compliment, but she also brought up the word "assassin" in a public interview with a woman whose late husband, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated as recently as September 2025 during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, per CBS News. For queer people, however, there was another soundbite from Minaj that sounded even more specific and pointed.Nicki Minaj: 'Boys, be boys. There's nothing wrong with being a boy.'While there are layers of context and confusion regarding Minaj's statements at the event, one other quote from the rapper stood out."Boys, be boys. There's nothing wrong with being a boy," Minaj declared. "How about that? How powerful is that? How profound is that? Boys will be boys, and there's nothing wrong with that."X user @spin4saint shared a video of Minaj delivering the aforementioned statement that has amassed 12.5 million views as of this writing. The X user wrote in the post: "Nicki just on this stage being blatantly transphobic omg"Another clip of the same statement, shared by @RedMedia_us on X, has reached 16.6 million views. "Nicki Minaj being openly Transphobic on National TV," the X page wrote in the caption. One day later, the Drag Race universe entered the chat as season 12 star Heidi N Closet reflected on the intensely negative critiques she received from the rapper during the very first episode of that season.Heidi N Closet references 'MAGA Minaj,' tags the rapper in an X post. (@) Heidi N Closet shared an X post viewed by more than 4 million people so far. "MAGA Minaj [eyes emoji; 3x] it was more then[sic] just my hair and makeup you hated," the Miss Congeniality winner wrote while tagging Minaj's X page.If you need a reminder of Minaj's guest judge stint on Drag Race, read the next section. If you don't need a reminder, skip to the following section.RECAP: What did Nicki Minaj say while critiquing Heidi N Closet on Drag Race?Minaj appeared as an extra special guest judge on the premiere of Drag Race season 12, which aired in 2020 (but was filmed in 2019).One critique from Minaj to Heidi N Closet stood out for being particularly negative. "I hate, hate, haaaaate your hair and makeup today," Minaj told Heidi during the episode. "The wig and the makeup could have enhanced your face even more to match this beautiful gown that you have on."It is not customary for guest judges on Drag Race to share such intensely negative remarks about a contestant who is having the opportunity of a lifetime to compete on the Emmy-winning series. That is even truer in the first episode of a new season given that queens are clearly nervous about walking and standing on the Drag Race runway for the first time and are clearly freaking out about being the first-eliminated queen of the season.Nicki Minaj responds to Heidi N Closet's X post. (@) Minaj quote-shared Heidi N Closet's X post to answer it for herself. "*than," the rapper wrote, correcting a grammatical error in Heidi's original post.As noted by Variety, the "boys, be boys" statement came across as being "beyond her beliefs about trans youths," but also about the rapper feeling like "boys are discouraged from being masculine."Considering that the Drag Race ethos has been fundamentally about being in touch with one's femininity (regardless of each person's gender identity), and the show's long-standing history of featuring trans contestants, crowning trans winners, and likely featuring more trans individuals than any other mainstream reality show, both interpretations of Minaj's "boys, be boys" remarks are hurtful to the LGBTQ+ community, and directly opposes what Drag Race, as a platform for LGBTQ+ talent, has been about for 18 seasons.Heidi N Closet shares new posts following Nicki Minaj's grammatical correction. (@) Heidi received a flood of posts from the "Barbz" (Minaj's fans) attacking her on X pretty much immediately. In response, the beloved Drag Race star used her signature humor."The mug and hair was a chop that day I can admit that!!" Heidi wrote on X. "However something I can say is I never have nor will stand with pedos [heart emoji.]"Here, Heidi referenced accusations against Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, and her brother, Jelani Maraj."Nicki Minaj's brother has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl," BBC News reported on January 2020. "Jelani Maraj was first convicted of predatory sexual assault and child endangerment in November 2017."On July 2022, another report from BBC News read, "Nicki Minaj's husband has been sentenced to a year of home detention for failing to register as a sex offender. Kenneth Petty was required to inform authorities when he moved due to an attempted rape conviction from 1995but the 44-year-old admitted failing to do this when he relocated to California with Nicki Minaj in 2019." (@) Heidi also responded to some of the Minaj fans attacking her.X user @owen_zolanski wrote, "I don't tuck my dick between my leg to support a delusion. I dress and act like a MAN. Yo father did a nasty job. You oogly son a disgrace."Heidi promptly clapped back: "If being blessed so much I've gotten to travel the world 'paid to do so' entertaining the people, the ability to pay all my bills and not want for nothing I'll be a disgrace what can you say your dad's proud of?"Cardi B has an interesting history with drag queens, too.You might assume that there can't possibly be even more to this story, but we're here to tell you that there absolutely is one last chapter in this saga worth exploring: Cardi B's own dynamics with drag.Thankfully, Cardi B's history with queer artists, trans women, and drag performers has generally ended in a happier ending, which we can all use right about now.Cardi B goes viral with 'okurrr.'Cardi B first went viral saying "okurrr" during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon from December 2017. When asked about her then-recent engagement to rapper Offset (one of three members in Migos), Cardi B looked at Fallon with a proud face and spontaneously let out an "okurrr." That soundbite was funny enough that Fallon repeated it, encouraging Cardi B to double down on it even more.At the time, Mikelle Street wrote about the origins of "okurrr" in a story for Out after the Los Angeles Times reported that Cardi B was seemingly moving to trademark "okurrr" for merch like paper goods, clothing, and cosmetics. The story investigated whether or not the soundbite came from ballroom culture, or perhaps from actor Rodney Chester starring on Noah's Arc.The story also explored how Laganja Estranja had popularized the term within reality TV at large while competing on RuPaul's Drag Race season 6 (and being made fun of for saying "okurrr"). Moreover, Khlo Kardashian had also brought the soundbite into universe of Keeping Up With the Kardashians on E!.Cardi B stance even back then, however, was to give credit where credit was due. (@) Laganja Estranja wrote a since-deleted X post (then called a tweet) to Cardi B that read:"Can I please do my iconic drop in the commercial for your new #Okurrr merch?!? I was once made fun of for using this word, and now you can help me come full circle."Cardi B promptly replied to the Drag Race star, writing: "Shiiiiiettt you will be the first I call but you gotta teach me how to do the drop first with out me breakin my hip."As Cardi B was targeted by negative comments for her use of "okurrr," Laganja took to social media to defend the rapper. "Can we stop the negative comments?!? The word #okurrr originated from the ballroom scene, but Cardi was smart enough to capitalize on it! Props to ya MAWMA!!"Cardi B names her sophomore album 'Am I The Drama?'The most recent connection between Cardi B and drag artists came in the form of naming her sophomore album Am I the Drama? a sentence/question originated by drag queen Scarlet Envy in her "Meet the Queens" interview segment ahead of Drag Race season 11.Once again, it was unclear whether or not Cardi B knew that this was originated by a drag queen, and the internet's knee-jerk reaction was to assume that she was going to steal the catchphrase for herself without giving Scarlet Envy any credit.Thankfully, that is not what happened.See on InstagramIt didn't even take a full week for Cardi B to link up with Scarlet Envy and create a moment alongside the queen, making sure that the existential question Scarlet once asked herself ("am I the drama?"), and that went viral in the Drag Race fandom, was clear enough for hip hop fans as well even if they would now know it as the title of Cardi B's sophomore album. While performing at LadyLand Festival, Scarlet Envy brought out Cardi B and showed the audience that they were united not beefing over the new album being titled Am I the Drama?. The rapper even performed a song ("Outside") from the upcoming album during Scarlet's set, and the two of them teased that they had plans to collaborate on other projects.Cardi B joins Mama Ru's queendom officially in 2026.Cardi B will now sashay her way into Mama Ru's queendom officially as the first guest judge of a new season ringing in the new year. Mama, kudos!RuPaul's Drag Race season 18 premieres Friday, January 2, on MTV.

Trump had Epstein killed because he was going to name names, Epsteins brother claims
Mark Epstein, the brother of deceased billionaire child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, told the FBI in 2023 that Donald Trump authorized Jeffrey Epsteins killing in his jail cell in 2019 because Jeffrey Epstein was about to name names associated with his high-profile crimes, The Miami Herald reported.Mark Epsteins claim was contained in an FBI document released alongside thousands of other files by the Department of Justice (DOJ) early Tuesday morning. In an unprecedented message, the DOJ noted that the files containuntrue and sensationalist claims against Trump. Its unclear whether the FBI or DOJ investigated Mark Epsteins claim. A 2007 indictment of 60 criminal charges against Jeffrey Epstein alleged that he had met underage girls at his New York mansion and flown underage girls to his private island in St. Thomas. Heated Rivalry season 2: Everything we know so far
As soon as an official announcement was shared to confirm that Heated Rivalry season 2 had been greenlit, fans of the Crave/HBO Max series began to speculate which actors, characters, and gay storylines are bound to return in the new season. Overall, the fandom is having passionate discussions about the future of lovebirds Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), which other characters within Rachel Reid's Game Changers series of novels could get a "B plot" treatment similar to season 1's journey between Scott Hunter (Franois Arnaud) and Kip Grady (Robbie G.K.), and which tricks showrunner Jacob Tierney has up his sleeve to take this beloved hockey series to the next level. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about Heated Rivalry season 2 so far to "The Cottage," and beyond!Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams signed contracts to do three seasons of Heated Rivalry.Storrie and Williams revealed in their GQ Hype feature story that they've signed on to do three seasons of Heated Rivalry upon being cast on the show."Both actors signed on for three seasons of Heated Rivalry; Crave has already greenlit season two," Mickey Rapkin wrote for GQ Hype. "Worth noting: The minimum paycheck for a series regular role on Canadian TV could be as little as $6,792 a week."RELATED: NHL says Heated Rivalry is 'unique driver for creating new fans'Yet, these contracts aren't always followed in the way that fans might expect them to be like. If the first season of Heated Rivalry had completely bombed, for instance, there would be no incentive for any studio to honor contracts tied to a show that had already flopped. In other words, no network or streaming service renews a show for more seasons just because the actors in it have signed on to do more seasons. It's also worth noting that Storrie and Williams could very well do a third season of Heated Rivalry that isn't necessarily focused on them. A good example is Bridgerton, on Netflix, which brings back characters who have already led their own seasons and are now just recurring members of the cast. Namely, Phoebe Dynevor (who led season 1 as Daphne Bridgerton) and Jonathan Bailey (who led season 2 as Lord Anthony Bridgerton) have both returned in subsequent seasons, despite the focus no longer being on them. What will Heated Rivalry season 2 be about? (@) Storrie and Williams appeared in a promo video for social media opening up a package and pulling out a hockey puck that had "Heated Rivalry season 2" written on it. Without missing a beat, Williams described the new season as "hotter, wetter, longer." But the actual tea that fans were dying to know came from Storrie. The actor, who plays Ilya Rozanov on the show, confirmed that Heated Rivalry season 2 will follow the plot of Rachel Reid's The Long Game, which is the sixth and final book in the Game Changers literary franchise and serves as a direct sequel to the love story between Shane and Ilya.Specifically, readers are reunited with Ilya and Shane 10 years after the events of the Heated Rivalry novel, which is Reid's second book in this continuity. Fortunately, these two hockey superstars are still together. However, they've now been keeping their relationship a secret even 10 years later, which obviously takes a toll on them."Start reading The Long Game if you want to spoil it for yourself," Storrie said in the video.Studio executives want to grow the Heated Rivalry TV franchise as much as possible. One of the most insightful stories concerning the future of Heated Rivalry as a potential franchise came from two top executives at Crave's parent company, Bell Media: Sean Cohan (President of Bell Media) and Justin Stockman (Vice President of Content Development & Programming). When asked how many seasons and/or spinoffs they anticipated following the success of Heated Rivalry season 1, Stockman candidly stated that they were interested in doing as many as possible though the executives did seem to be considerate of the creative limitations and/or boundaries within Rachel Reid's book series and Jacob Tierney's outline for the TV show adaptation.RELATED: Heated Rivalry: Robbie G.K. wants more Kip and Scott and to play a superhero"We have had a lot of discussion with Jacob and [his producing partner] Brendan Brady about what the vision is," Stockman told The Ankler. "We know we want more. What shape that takes how many seasons can we get out of the Shane and Ilya story versus what else could be sprinkled in or is that this series or is that another series we haven't really answered yet. It's an ongoing conversation of how to map it out right now."Stockman concluded, "The more the better, but we want every episode to be as good as the ones that have been created so far."Hudson Williams teases the Heated Rivalry season 2 filming schedule.Hudson Williams, who plays Shane Hollander on Heated Rivalry, has portrayed himself as a pretty chaotic and unserious celebrity that the fans have fallen in love with. However, the actor does seem to be a reliable narrator whenever asked a serious question about the actual production of the series. When asked about the filming of Heated Rivalry season 2, Williams told Variety, "Someone has told me July or August, but I really don't know." The actor followed up that question with another detail concerning his fitness leading up to the second season. "I'm gaining 10 pounds for season 2," Williams remarked. "10 lean pounds."Heated Rivalry season 2 will keep streaming on HBO Max for U.S. audiences.Casey Bloys, CEO and content chairman of HBO and Max, confirmed that Heated Rivalry season 2 will keep being available for U.S. audiences via streaming on HBO Max, as reported in the GQ Hype feature with Williams and Storrie. The Crave original series, produced entirely as a Canadian production, is HBO Max's "top-rated live-action acquisition ever," Bloys told the publication. And yet, the GQ Hype story snuck in an interesting remark that "HBO is not creatively involved with the series" even as it is renewed for a second season.Bell Media/Crave will continue to run the Heated Rivalry franchise in season 2 without having to share any creative decisions with international distribution partners even one as big as HBO Max in the U.S.When is Heated Rivalry season 2 being released?Despite his obvious excitement about Heated Rivalry season 1 being such a massive success, showrunner Jacob Tierney is setting conservative estimates for the timeline to produce, film, and release the now-confirmed second season of the show."It can't be same time next year, because this time last year I'd written five of these, and this time this year I've written zero of them," Tierney told Variety in an interview. "So it's going to be a little bit later, but it's still going to be soon."RELATED: Heated Rivalry: Scott Hunter and Kip Grady's relationship timelineGiven that the first season premiered in late November (and mostly aired in December 2025), the showrunner is indeed suggesting that Heated Rivalry season 2 will only come out in early 2027. "We understand that everybody's goal is to not do two years between seasons," Tierney noted."And at the same time, I don't want to put out a rushed shitty second season just because the show is very popular. But we're very aware that our creative partners are enthusiastic and don't want to wait too long. We're getting back to work!"

Will Byers got powers. So I created my own gay superhero
When it was announced that Will Byers would reveal supernatural powers in the final season of Stranger Things, I had two immediate reactions. First: the emotionally damp gay guy is ascending. Good for him.Second: The internet is about to explode with think pieces about gay power. The only thing gay men love more than sex is discourse.Which, don't get me wrong I love. I am pro-gay power. Put it on a T-shirt. Sell it at Urban Outfitters so queers in Bushwick can crop them, perform interpretive sorrow on TikTok, then set them on fire for performance art. But watching the moment Will used his powers hit me in a weirdly emotional way, because I never saw a gay guy get superpowers before. The only queer-coded hero I knew was the popular girl in my middle school sex-ed class who bravely asked after a terribly vague description of sex, "What about butt stuff?"That's precisely why I created my first gay superhero: Fagman. In my series, Ransom is a queer comic-book artist in Fargo, North Dakota, who decides to draw the world's first unapologetically gay superhero. Not coded. Not implied. Not wink-wink representation. A full-volume, out-loud, camp, chaotic gay hero whose very existence is a middle finger to the slur he grew up being called.Ransom is emotionally undercooked. His dating history is filled with villains that make the Joker look like Prince Charming. He sabotages job opportunities, steals from people trying to help him, and self-medicates with substances and spectacularly ill-timed jokes. He wants to feel brave, but only finds the courage to confront people who steal his vape. Fagman becomes his alter-ego fantasy: the version of himself who is fearless, expressive, and confident everything he isn't yet.And that's what the show is really about. Heroism isn't just about power. It's about repair.Growing up queer in North Dakota (a famously chic experience), the idea that queerness equaled actual power would've sounded insane. Queer kids are often told we're powerful: emotionally intuitive, resilient, unusually good at reading rooms. Qualities that are perceived as survival skills that are part of some kind of mystical upgrade pack. In the boys' locker room at Discovery Middle School, though, those "powers" felt like liabilities.I escaped into comics and superheroes because in fantasy, problems were simple and identity was confident. What I wanted wasn't a coded metaphor for queerness. I wanted a hero who actually felt like me. Someone mid-breakdown, mid-boner, mid-identity crisis, but still unquestionably the main character. I wanted a hero who did poppers. However, creating what I believed to be the first gay superhero required research. Before Fagman, there was Northstar, Marvel's first openly gay superhero. He debuted in the late '70s and finally came out in 1992 (Alpha Flight #106) with the bold energy of an actual press conference. He had light powers, super speed, and flight. He was also famously vain, sarcastic, and reckless, which honestly made him our first emotionally accurate gay hero. Northstar cracked open the door to representation and eventually even got married in the comics, which was historic. But he still lived in that glossy superhero realm of confidence, composure, and packaging. I wasn't looking for a polished symbol. I needed a hero who felt like he was unraveling mid-panel, which is how Fagman was born.In the series, Ransom doesn't create Fagman to save the world; he creates him to see himself as a good guy. Someone worthy of celebration, admiration, and respect. If he can make a superhero who is gay, who is flawed, who messes up but prevails and ultimately remains a hero at the end of the day, then maybe he might see himself. So, when Will Byers finally stepped into his power, it clarified something I'd been feeling for years. The fantasy we're often sold is that power is the queer arc. Be sensitive. Survive hardship. Then unlock greatness. Queerness is the emotional equivalent of a radioactive spider bite that eventually turns you into an icon. Suffering becomes a prerequisite for specialness; pain becomes destiny. The message is subtle but piercing: if queerness hurts, it must be because you're becoming powerful.A comforting thought, but not always the truth. The reality we live in is simple. Being queer isn't about becoming strong. It's about staying alive. And yes, we are battling monsters, but the greatest super villain is shame. Powers are an excellent tool for cinema, but being able to levitate isn't going to help you emotionally evolve when half of your adolescence was spent hiding instead of developing.I wish I could've seen a hero who showed me that strength isn't the absence of mess it's the willingness to face it. A lot of us never needed magic powers. We needed permission to be ordinary and still be seen as heroic. Since leaving Fargo and building this show, I've realized something quietly radical: Being alive is the first heroic act.Healing is the second.I'm thrilled that Will Byers got powers. I'm delighted that Northstar existed. But I created Fagman because my hero can't shoot lightning or open portals. Sometimes the bravest power of all is not saving the world, but learning how to live in it. That's the hero I grew up wanting. That's why I created my own. Trans influencer bullied by Nancy Mace gets the last laugh: Shes losing it
A transgender influencer refused to let Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) have the last word after the anti-trans congresswoman publicly bullied her. Sabre, who goes by Bottleneckloser on Instagram, recently posted side-by-side photos of herself on X depicting her pre- and post-transition. God I love estrogen, she wrote. Almost three weeks later, Mace shared the post to her official X account and wrote, Estrogen doesnt love you. Santa Claus forced to cancel worldwide delivery due to climate change
Taking a truly unprecedented step, Santa Claus (a.k.a. Kris Kringle, Papai Noel, Old Saint Nickolas, Father Christmas, and other aliases) announced today that, though his heart is breaking, he will not be able to deliver toys to deserving Christian children this year because of the enormous and vast human-caused climatic changes worldwide. From the very moment they perceive language, most Christian children understand Santas incredible spy-gathering capabilities. In some cultures, youth learn that Santa knows when you are sleeping, and he knows when youre awake. Children grow up terrified that Santa, through his snoops, knows if youve been bad or good. And because of this, Santa warns children that they must be good for goodness sake. Related These 10 lesbian Christmas movies will add some sapphic cheer to your holidays This year, as in years past, Santa created his lists examining who has been good and who has been bad. After checking them twice, he found that, though most young people earned acceptance onto the good list, most adults, regardless of religious or non-religious background, nonetheless landed on the bad list. Because of these naughty adults, Santa felt he had no other choice but to cancel his scheduled toy delivery for all the good Christian children.Santa feels really, really pissed off by humankinds failure to heed the perennial dire warnings of most reputable scientists of the deadly consequences of our overuse and unsustainable abuse of fossil fuels as energy sources, and our overdependence on animal-based agriculture that emits large amounts of carbon dioxide, and the raising of livestock emits great quantities of methane gas into the environment. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Even if Santa had decided not to punish people by withholding toys this year, he would not be able to make his yearly rounds on Christmas Eve. Due to dwindling ice caps at the North Pole, the length of runway needed for Santas trusty reindeer team has shrunk to the point where it no longer provides enough space for a successful takeoff and landing.Just yesterday, Santa conducted a trial liftoff, and all eight reindeer landed headfirst into the waters of melting landscapes. Now, poor Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Prancer, Rudolph, and Vixen lie in their beds suffering from bacterial pneumonia, and their prognoses for full recovery appear doubtful. Even last year on Christmas Eve, though the team took off from Santas private runway, Rudolphs usually reliable red nose was barely bright enough to pierce through the increasingly thick layer of smog and soot encircling the Earth. On numerous occasions, Rudolph nearly crashed the team into mountain peaks and large buildings due to lowered visibility. All the reindeer and even Santa himself have developed severe cases of asthma and emphysema from inhaling toxic fumes over the years. With all of the problems plaguing Santa this year, the Elves have added to his woes by filing a joint lawsuit against their employer. Global warming has increased to the point that many of the Elves have fainted from heat exhaustion in Santas workshop as they make toys, and they are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. Though Santa Claus will not be landing on your roofs, shimmying down chimneys, and quietly placing presents beneath Christmas trees (which he would rather you leave in the ground since trees clean the air), he does give humankind a poignant proverb from Indigenous rights activists, which if taken to heart, is much more valuable than any mere material gift to the future of life on this planet and into space:Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you learn that you cannot eat money. And to all a clean, safe, and sustainable tomorrow.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Pete Buttigieg reminds travelers of their rights while throwing shade at the current administration
You can take former Secretary Pete Buttigieg out of the Department of Transportation (DOT), but you cant take the DOT out of Secretary Pete. This is what one might say about Buttigiegs latest video, posted to social media, reminding travelers of their rights, just as air travel picked up for the holiday season. Related Pete Buttigieg says public has reached volcanic boiling point of impatience with president In my last job, around this time of year, I would often hold a press conference to remind passengers of their rights and to remind airlines that we would be enforcing those rights, he said, explaining that those rights have been somewhat diminished in the past year because of the new presidential administration. But you still have rights, including the right to an automatic refund that we fought to get enshrined into law, he continued, referring to how the Biden administration was able to make rules that require airlines to issue automatic refunds for significantly delayed or canceled flights. Buttigieg then pointed travelers to flightrights.gov saying that the last time I checked it was still a good source of information, unlike other informative government websites the new administration has taken down for more information about their rights while traveling by air.A quick reminder during this busy travel season to know your rights as a passenger. Please be kind, be safe, and have a great holiday season! Pete Buttigieg (@petebuttigieg.bsky.social) 2025-12-22T14:48:48.571Z

Ice Spice reveals that her beef with Latto was fake
Rapper Ice Spice recently appeared on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live to talk about her voice acting role in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. While there, she told the notoriously messy talk show host that her squabble with fellow rapper Latto was never real. Fans of the show called in and asked what inspired Ice Spice to put aside her differences with Latto to collaborate on "Gyatt." Fans also asked what her favorite part of filming the music video was."Um, what made me wanna squash it? It wasn't a real beef to begin with, to be honest," Ice Spice replied. The New York native didn't offer up any specifics about their faux beef, but then shared what she enjoyed about collaborating with Latto. "The whole video was so fun. It was like, everybody was just joking around the whole time, to the point where, like, I remember my manager was like, 'Can y'all wrap it up? Hurry up.' It was really fun. Shoutout to Latto." (@) The "beef" in question seemingly stemmed from alleged disses in songs released by both Ice Spice and Latto over the past few years. The two rappers also seemed to have chosen sides in the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj war: Latto collaborated with Cardi on a remix for "Put It on da Floor," whereas Ice Spice worked with the Minaj on a remix of "Princess Diana" and "Barbie World." In the past, Minaj has praised Ice Spice and even called her the "princess of rap."The beef dates back to 2023 when Latto was featured on a song with Offset, called "Fine as Can Be," that seemed to reference Ice Spice's "Munch (Feelin' U)." As the featured artist, Latto raps, "That n---- a munch / Yo' bookin' fee, ate it for lunch / I don't do backends, need it up front / I'm big dawg, you bitches is runts."Ice Spice allegedly returned the shots on "Think U the Shit (Fart)," released in January 2024, in which the rapper seems to reference Latto's "Put It on da Floor," and raps, "I got my foot on they necks, I can't let up / She all on the floor, told her get up."Now, it seems like Ice Spice and Latto have moved on from the debacle and put their feud behind them.

19 blue states sue to stop RFKs proposed gender-affirming care hospital ban
Nineteen states are suing to block the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announcement last week of a proposed rule to end all federal funding for any hospital in the United States that provides gender-affirming care to minors. The funding threat announced last Thursday by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy would deny Medicare and Medicaid funding to any hospital that provides puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and, in rare instances, surgeries for trans youth. Related Trump administration is forcing hospitals to end gender-affirming care for trans minors Federal funding makes up about 45% of total spending on hospital care, according to KFF, the nonprofit health policy research group.Kennedy based the action in part on a claim that gender-related treatments for minors fail to meet professional recognized standards of health care, a finding in a highly criticized report commissioned by HHS on the treatment of pediatric gender dysphoria released in May and updated last month. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The states argue in their suit that Kennedys declaration is unlawful government overreach.Secretary Kennedy cannot unilaterally change medical standards by posting a document online, New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement on Tuesday. And no one should lose access to medically necessary health care because their federal government tried to interfere in decisions that belong in doctors offices.HHS asserts the order supersedes previously established standards of care and that the agency can exclude hospitals from federal programs that fail to meet new standards. Those standards are based on Donald Trumps Day One gender ideology executive order mandating the government recognize only two immutable sexes, male and female, and another addressing the so-called chemical surgical mutilation of children. Both underpin Trumps crusade against transgender identity. The suit argues that regulating medical practice falls under the states jurisdiction. By attempting to impose a single nationwide standard and threatening to punish providers who adhere to well-established, evidence-based care, HHS is unlawfully interfering in decisions that should be made by doctors and their patients, Jamess office said.States joining the suit, filed in federal court by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Washington, and the District of Columbia. All have Democratic-controlled legislatures, governors, or both, The New York Times reports. The states are suing as healthcare providers are already relenting to pressure to end gender-affirming care for minors, and options for the treatment of gender dysphoria dwindle for patients. More than two dozen states have banned the practice. Childrens Hospital Los Angeles notified staff members in June thatthe clinic would close, citing the potential termination of federal funds, which account for 65 percent of its budget. Loss of that funding would be an existential threat to our hospital operations, they said at the time. The day before Kennedys announcement, the House of Representativespassed a billsponsored by outgoing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) that would criminalize gender-affirming care for minors nationwide, subjecting providers to up to 10 years in federal prison. At the HHS news conference last Thursday, Jim ONeill, deputy secretary of the department, asserted, Men are men. Men can never become women. Women are women. Women can never become men.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
