Google Scraps Diversity Hiring Targets and Reviews DEI Programs Amid Growing Backlash
Tech giant Google is ending its diversity hiring targets and reviewing its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, becoming the latest U.S. company to scale back or eliminate such programs. The decision comes after years of public commitment to diversity initiatives following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, which sparked nationwide protests and calls for racial justice. At the time, Google announced it would set goals to increase leadership representation of underrepresented groups, particularly among Black and Latino communities. Approximately 96% of Googles U.S.-based leaders were white or Asian, and about three-quarters of global leadership were men. The company aimed to change this by setting aspirational hiring targets to boost diversity within its workforce.Between 2021 and 2024, the company provided regular updates on its progress, stating its commitment to integrating DEI principles into everything it does. Google made it clear in annual reports that it sought to create a workforce that better reflected the diversity of the users it served. However, a noticeable shift occurred in Googles latest report released on February 5. The line about integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into the companys ethos was absent, signaling a significant change in direction. In a company-wide email, Googles Chief People Officer Fiona Cicconi confirmed that the company would no longer set specific hiring targets for improving workforce diversity. In 2020, we set aspirational hiring goals and focused on growing our offices outside California and New York to improve representation, Cicconi wrote. Well continue to invest in states across the U.S. and in many countries globally, but in the future, we will no longer have aspirational goals. This move marks a shift in Googles stance, and the company has indicated that it will now review DEI programs, policies, and grants that may pose risks or fail to deliver the intended results. The companys decision follows similar actions by other major corporations, such as Amazon and Meta, which recently scaled back or eliminated their DEI initiatives due to changes in the legal and political landscape.Googles decision has been widely interpreted as a response to right-wing pressure, particularly from those who have criticized corporate DEI efforts. The company is reportedly considering recent executive orders from former President Donald Trump, which targeted DEI initiatives within the federal government.Despite eliminating hiring targets, Google has pledged to continue supporting resource groups for minorities within the company. These employee-led groups are designed to provide support and advocacy for various communities and currently include 17 different groups with more than 50,000 members. Were committed to creating a workplace where all our employees can succeed and have equal opportunities, and over the past year weve been reviewing our programs designed to help us get there, a Google spokesperson said in a statement. Our teams are also evaluating changes required following recent court decisions and executive orders on this topic.Parul Koul, president of the Alphabet Workers Union (AWU), strongly criticized the changes, calling them a real attack on gains that workers have made in the tech industry through movements fighting against racism, gender and LGBTQ discrimination, going all the way back to the civil rights movement. Koul further described the move as part of a troubling trend in tech companies, where there is a growing anti-worker, right-wing influence. We are committed to fighting against this trend, Koul added.Googles decision to scale back its DEI initiatives is part of a broader shift in corporate America. Amazon and Meta also made similar moves in January, eliminating their DEI policies. Meta attributed its decision to changes in the legal and policy landscape and announced that it would stop moderating comments on topics such as immigration and gender, while ending independent fact-checking in favor of a community notes system. Amazon, on the other hand, said it was winding down outdated programs and materials, emphasizing a new focus on programs with proven outcomes.Several other major companies, including Ford, Lowes, Walmart, Harley-Davidson, and Jack Daniels, have distanced themselves from DEI initiatives in response to pressure from conservative campaigners, including pundit Robby Starbuck. As more companies reconsider or abandon their diversity programs, the future of DEI initiatives in corporate America remains uncertain, with ongoing debates about their effectiveness and the political ramifications surrounding them. The move by Google, one of the largest tech companies in the world, signals a growing divide in how corporations approach issues of diversity, inclusion, and equality. The post Google Scraps Diversity Hiring Targets and Reviews DEI Programs Amid Growing Backlash appeared first on Gayety.

11 LGBTQ+ characters from 2000s television that gave us hope
While things were beginning to improve for the LGBTQ+ community in the 2000s, same-sex marriage being legalized was still years away, and bad gay jokes were still the norm on television. Which is why we latched on to every gay character who provided us a little bit of hope for a brighter future. In the decades before, we were lucky to get queer-coded characters, but the first ten years of the new millennium treated us to fully developed and even delightful messy LGBTQ+ characters to identify with and, at times, live vicariously through. The cast of The L WordAfter years of lesbian side characters (like on Friends) and queer-coded sapphic romances (Xena: Warrior Princess), it was a breath of fresh air to have an entire show dedicated to depicting queer women.Marco Del Rossi Degrassi: The Next GenerationMarco was the first openly gay main character on Degrassi, and actor Adamo Ruggiero credits playing the queer character with helping him to come out in real life.David Six Feet UnderMichael C. Halls character David spent much of Six Feet Under struggling with his sexuality and navigating his relationship with partner Keith, who he eventually marries on the show.Inara FireflyInara was not only queer but a respected sex worker on the one-season show, and while her clientele was overwhelmingly male, we did get to see her with a female client, a rarity in 2003.The cast of Queer as FolkQueer as Folk helped to redefine LGBTQ+ characters and featured the first sex scene between two men ever depicted on American television. The unapologetic gay characters were a beacon of light to queer people who had only seen the sanitized version of gay life as shown on shows like Will & Grace.Anna One Tree HillAnna is a bisexual character from the teen drama One Tree Hill who came out during the shows second season and starts dating a woman.Andrew Van de Kamp Desperate HousewivesWhile Wisteria Lane was mostly full of straight couples, Shawn Pyfroms character Andrew was one of a few gay recurring characters on the show. Andrew struggled with his sexuality and dealing with his mother initial disapproving of his sexuality. Mystique and Destiny (X-Men Evolution)Mystique and Destiny have one of the longest-running romances in the history of Marvel comics and one of the most beloved queer relationships. While Mystiques queerness has largely been erased from the X-Men movies, we got to see the pair in a relationship in the animated series X-Men Evolution.Stanford Blatch Sex and the CityWhile he may have fallen into the gay best friend stereotype sometimes, Stanford was a beloved addition to the cast as Carries bestie.Ian Gallagher ShamelessIan Gallagher first comes out in the first season of Shameless and goes on to be an openly gay character who dates a few different men throughtout the run of the show. Willow & Tara Buffy the Vampire SlayerWillow came out on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1999, but she didnt start dating Tara until 2000 so were counting it!

DOGE staffer resigns over uncovered racist posts
DOGE staffer Marko Elez a 25-year-old member of Elon Musks cadre of young engineers who have been storming various government agencies including the Treasury, USAID, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration resigned his position today when The Wall Street Journal uncovered his old social media account which featured numerous posts promoting racism and eugenics. (@) Among his posts, Elez suggested nullifying the Civil Rights Act and enacting a eugenic immigration policy. In another post, as reported by WSJ, Elez wrote, You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity, as well as Normalize Indian hate, a remark reportedly aimed at the large South Asian population in Silicon Valley. As if there was any question about his beliefs, Elez also reportedly posted, Just for the record. I was racist before it was cool.Elez has a long history of working for Musk as an employee of SpaceX, Starlink, and X before joining the DOGE team. In his latest role, he was one of the staffers who seized the U.S. Treasury and had administrator-level privileges on the Treasury Departments payment systems. That Elez was a seemingly a proud and avowed racist is not surprising considering that DOGE which was ostensibly created to cut government spending has instead focused on finding and abolishing all DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs. What is surprising is that he faced consequences for it in the current administration. Despite this, X users are pointing out Elez has seemingly retained his job at Musks social media platform. (@) As soon as the news broke, users on X began commenting on the story, expressing their lack of surprise that Elez was racist considering his connection to Musk, who gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trumps inauguration and was a speaker at a rally for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in January, where he told the crowd they should not be ashamed of their history. We think you can decode what he meant by that remark. (@) "Of course perpetual fuckup @elonmusk set up a Department of Greenhorn Eugenecists. No surprise that an outspoken racist like @marko_elez is one of his best 'frenz.'" (@) "So it's safe to say racist DOGE employee Marko Elez was the first to take Trump's resignation offer?" (@) "So Marko Elez resigned from being a special government employee with the Treasury Department and Elon Musk still has him working at Twitter/X? Even after his racist/pro-eugenics posts? This tracks Considering hes an AI guy, I wonder what Elon is going to ask him to do after he had access to all of our Treasury data?" (@) "THE UNFUCKABLES" (@) "Elon Musk had to have known this guy Marko Elez was racist as fuck. Musk can see everything people write here, even deleted shit. Rep. Nancy Mace Repeatedly Spews Anti-Trans Slur During House Hearing: I Dont Really Care
Rep. Gerry Connolly has requested a formal inquiry into Rep. Nancy Maces use of a derogatory slur toward the transgender community during a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing on February 5. The Republican congresswomans remarks were made amid her ongoing controversial statements and attacks on the transgender community, as well as on fellow congresswoman Sarah McBride.During the hearing, Mace asked a panel of experts whether it was in the best interest of American citizens to fund a $2 million program in Guatemala, which she described as funding t****ies in reference to gender-affirming surgeries. Her comments sparked immediate backlash from several members of the House, including Connolly, who expressed concern over Maces use of a term widely recognized as a slur within the LGBTQ+ and transgender communities.Does this advance the interest of American citizens paying for t****ies in Guatemala to the tune of $2 million? Mace asked the panel. She went on to criticize U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) programs, questioning whether such expenditures were beneficial to the American public.Following Maces questioning, Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, raised the issue of decorum, particularly the use of the derogatory term. The gentlelady has used a phrase that is considered a slur in the LGBTQ community and the trans community, Connolly said, addressing the committee chair, Rep. James Comer.View this post on InstagramA post shared by COURIER (@couriernewsroom)Connolly sought to continue his point, but Mace interrupted him, which led to her repeating the slur three times. I dont really care, Mace responded defiantly. You want penises in womens bathrooms and Im not gonna have it. No, thank you. Its disgusting.Connolly, visibly frustrated, continued: To me, a slur is a slur. And here in the committee, a level of decorum requires us to try consciously to avoid slurs. He emphasized that such language was unnecessary in a policy debate, saying, We can debate policy discussion without offending human beings who are fellow citizens.Connolly then formally requested a parliamentary inquiry into whether Maces remarks violated the committees standards for decorum. I would ask as a parliamentary inquiry whether the use of that phrase is not, in fact, a violation of the decorum rules, he said, underscoring the importance of respectful dialogue in government proceedings.Mace, however, rejected Connollys request, stating, Im not going to be counselled by a man over men and womens spaces or men who have mental health issues dressing as women.Chairman Comer, who was overseeing the hearing, responded that he was not sufficiently informed about LGBTQ+ terminology or the specifics of anti-trans slurs and would look into the matter further. He did not make any immediate judgment about the appropriateness of Maces language. The exchange quickly drew attention and condemnation from advocacy groups and LGBTQ+ rights organizations. Critics argue that Maces repeated use of the slur contributes to the harmful rhetoric surrounding transgender people, a community that already faces significant discrimination and marginalization.Maces comments are part of a broader, ongoing culture war in the U.S. involving transgender rights. The congresswoman has previously drawn criticism for her remarks on trans issues, particularly her opposition to the inclusion of transgender women in womens sports and her confrontations with trans advocates like McBride. As a result of the hearing and the request for inquiry, calls for accountability have intensified. Advocates stress the importance of lawmakers using inclusive language when discussing vulnerable communities, particularly in official legislative settings. Connollys actions were widely praised by LGBTQ+ groups who argue that members of Congress should maintain a standard of respect and dignity when addressing all citizens, including transgender individuals. The episode is a continuation of a broader national debate on the rights of transgender individuals, particularly in the realms of sports, healthcare, and social acceptance. While Maces remarks and the subsequent inquiry have ignited a political firestorm, they also underscore the ongoing cultural and political battles over transgender rights in the United States. As of now, it remains unclear what actions will be taken in response to the parliamentary inquiry. However, the incident has sparked renewed conversations about the language used by elected officials when addressing sensitive issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. The outcome of this inquiry could set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future. The post Rep. J.K. Rowling Slams Left Over Trumps Executive Order on Womens Sports
J.K. Rowling, the British author best known for creating the Harry Potter series, took to social media on Wednesday to voice her disapproval of those advocating for the inclusion of transgender women in womens sports. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rowling shared a photo of former U.S. President Donald Trump signing the No Men in Womens Sports executive order, surrounded by applauding female athletes. The signing took place on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women in sports and advocating for equal opportunities for female athletes. In her post, Rowling directed a sharp message to the left, claiming that their efforts to allow transgender womenbiological males who identify as femaleto compete in womens sports had contributed to a harmful shift in society. Congratulations to every single person on the left whos been campaigning to destroy womens and girls rights, Rowling wrote. Without you, thered be no images like this. The tweet was accompanied by a critical tone, as the author suggested that the push to allow transgender women in womens sports had undermined womens rights and safety. Rowling, who has been vocal about her views on the subject, continued her critique in another post, rejecting the argument that transgender inclusion affects only a small fraction of the population. Why do you care about a tiny fraction of the population? she remarked, dismissing the line as utterly ridiculous.Rowlings stance on the issue has been clear for years, as she has consistently supported the notion of keeping biological males out of womens sports. The Harry Potter author argued that the promotion of gender ideology has led to a significant erosion of fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, scientific truth, and protections for women and children. Gender ideology has undermined freedom of speech, scientific truth, gay rights, and womens and girls safety, privacy and dignity, she wrote. Its also caused irreparable physical damage to vulnerable kids. Nobody voted for it, the vast majority of people disagree with it, yet it has been imposed, top down, by politicians, healthcare bodies, academia, sections of the media, celebrities and even the police. The authors post suggested that those advocating for gender inclusivity in sports and beyond had been misled or were ignoring the negative consequences of such policies. This movement has impacted society in disastrous ways, Rowling said. If you had any sense, youd be quietly deleting every trace of activist mantras, ad hominem attacks, false equivalence and circular arguments from your X feeds. In addition to her views on womens sports, Rowling also made headlines last year when she criticized the BBCs decision to award its Womens Footballer of the Year award to Zambian soccer player Barbra Banda. Banda had previously withdrawn from the Zambian squad for the Womens Africa Cup of Nations after failing to meet sex eligibility requirements. However, she was allowed to compete in the Paris Olympics and later became the second-leading scorer in the U.S. National Womens Soccer League.Rowling took to social media to express her outrage, stating, Presumably the BBC decided this was more time efficient than going door to door to spit directly in womens faces.Beyond her views on sports, Rowling has faced significant backlash for her outspoken criticism of transgender issues, particularly in relation to the Scottish Hate Crime Act. Signed into law last year, the legislation introduced a new crime of stirring up hatred against any of the protected groups covered by the bill, including transgender individuals. Rowling, a vocal critic of the law, has repeatedly expressed concern that it infringes on free speech and places limits on peoples ability to express their views on gender. She even challenged Scottish authorities to arrest her for calling a man a man.In previous social media posts, Rowling also highlighted several instances in which male criminals claimed to be transgender in order to be housed in female prisons. She cited examples of male criminals convicted of serious offenses, including child sexual assault, who had been allowed to identify as women before serving their sentences. The author used these examples to argue that transgender inclusion policies posed a threat to womens safety. The issue of transgender inclusion in sports has been a contentious topic worldwide, with both sides of the debate fiercely defending their positions. Critics of transgender women competing in womens sports argue that it creates an unfair advantage, given the physiological differences between men and women. Supporters of transgender rights, however, maintain that exclusion from sports is discriminatory and harmful to transgender individuals.Rowlings stance on this issue has earned her both support and condemnation. While she has found an audience of supporters who share her concerns about the impact of gender ideology on womens rights, she has also faced significant backlash from the LGBTQ+ community and allies who accuse her of transphobia. Despite the controversy, Rowling remains an active and vocal participant in the debate, particularly on social media platforms like X, where she has continued to share her views on the subject. As the debate over transgender rights in sports continues, Rowlings comments are likely to fuel further conversations about the intersection of gender, equality, and fairness in athletics. The post J.K. Laverne Cox & George Wallace Bring Heart & Hilarity to Sitcom Clean Slate
This Prime Video sitcom delivers heartfelt humor and groundbreaking representationheres why you should watch.A Fresh Take on Family and IdentityExecutive produced by industry legends like Norman Lear, Laverne Cox, and George Wallace, the sitcom Clean Slate explores family, identity, and second chances in the most unexpected ways. The series follows Harry Slate (Wallace), an old-school Alabama car wash owner whose world is turned upside down when his estranged child returns homenot as the son he remembers, but as Desiree (Cox), a proud trans woman. As the two attempt to mend their strained relationship, they navigate the growing pains of understanding each other, all while dealing with quirky neighbors, a church congregation in turmoil and an evolving romance between Desiree and Harrys right-hand man, Mack (Jay Wilkison).Cox and Wallace Reflect on Their Hollywood JourneysLaverne Cox has been a trailblazer in Hollywood, breaking barriers as the first openly transgender person nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Her work in Orange Is the New Black put trans narratives in the mainstream, but Cox has continued pushing for authentic representation both in front of and behind the camera. This is one of the most difficult things Ive done, ironically enough, Cox said. Partly because Desiree is so close to me. Shes based on me, and a lot of the storylines come from my life. I think shes a younger version of me.She made that happen, Wallace said of Coxs influence on the shows inclusive atmosphere. Every person from every walk of life was represented. I learned so much just by being with people I never hung out with before. We all became family.Meanwhile, Wallace, a veteran comedian and actor, brings decades of experience to the sitcom. Having worked alongside comedy greats like Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx, Wallaces career spans stand-up, television and film.Behind the Scenes: Creating an Inclusive SetBeyond the laughs, the show boasts a truly diverse and inclusive production team.We created a writers room with people of color, queer people, trans people, people from the South, and people from the church, Cox said. Having representation at every level of production makes a difference. Id be devastated if someone came from a project I worked on and said they had a horrible experience. The fact that people felt seen and celebrated? Thats what Im proudest of.Wallace echoed Coxs sentiments, emphasizing the importance of fostering a welcoming set.Whats Next for Clean Slate? While Season 1 is just beginning, the creators are already thinking ahead. We have about three or four seasons mapped out, and Im super excited about whats to come, Cox teased. If people love the show, they should write Amazon and say, We need a second season!Wallace added with a grin, Were going to do what the people want. And trust me, theres a lot more coming. With its mix of heartfelt storytelling and laugh-out-loud moments, Clean Slate is poised to be a game-changer for sitcoms. Former Disney star Dan Benson says he's shutting down his popular OnlyFans, here's why
Former Disney Channel star Dan Benson may be saying goodbye to the world of adult entertainment.Earlier this week, the Wizards of Waverly Place actor announced on a since-deleted TikTok video that he plans to shut down the OnlyFans account he started back in 2022, Just Jared reports.Years after his Disney show was canceled, Benson gained notoriety again when he started selling adult content after his private photos were leaked online, and he felt helpless to stop it. But now Benson seems to be regretting this choice.I think Im done. When I made the decision to start an OnlyFans page, I thought I was doing it for the right reasons. I was doing it to support financially my elderly dog that needed a lot of financial help with his medical bills. I was tired of being so poor and feeling like I was being taken advantage of. I dont know. I think after years of doing this, its starting to weigh on me and Im going to pull away for a while and take some time to reflect, the 37-year-old adult film star said.Benson thanked his followers for their support and suggested he may return to acting or try to get a normal 9 to 5 job. Despite Wizards of Waverly Place being rebooted with many of the former cast members returning, its unlikely this is the acting opportunity Benson is referring to. He has said in the past that he knows he wont be asked back by the kid-friendly network since Disney probably frowns on the adult content he has spend the last couple of years producing. WATCH: 'Severance's Britt Lower takes a sapphic turn in the steamy short film 'Show Pony'
Britt Lower might be making headlines this week for that big plot twist in season two of Severance (dont worry, we wont spoil it for you!), but Sapphics have found an additional reason to keep the focus on her.As initially shared by Ana Osorno over at them, social media sleuths combing through Lowers filmography recently made a fun discovery they quickly repurposed for a fancam a 2022 short film called Show Pony. The 17-minute film stars Lower as an artist named Kate who kicks her story off by hooking up with a man (Adam Shapiro), but soon develops a fascination with a ballet teacher, Laura (Clara McGregor). Kate signs up for her class, sparks fly, and well, there are definitely some scenes here youre going to want to see.Things take a turn when Kate follows Laura and finds her suiting up for some pony play. If you want to know how things turn out from there, youll have to watch for yourself. But honestly, its just nice that weve progressed to a point in society where fictional Sapphic couples experience conflict beyond deciding to go back into the closet or straight-up dying. The film was written and directed by Meghan Lennox, and produced by Christian Papierniak, who previously gave us that movie about Mackenzie Davis riding her bike across Los Angeles to try to stop her ex from getting married. You can check out Show Pony in its full glory on YouTube below:Show Pony, written and directed by Meghan Lennox, starring Britt Lower & Clara McGregor

Museum Adds Mature Content Warning to Exhibit with Painting of Two Cowboys Kissing
Two queer artists of color are speaking out after the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas, placed a mature content warning on an exhibition featuring their work. The exhibition, titled Cowboy, includes a multidisciplinary installation by artists Rafa Esparza and Fabian Guerrero. While the exhibit does not contain any explicit sexual images, the artwork features gay representation, which the artists believe is the source of the controversy.Esparza and Guerreros piece, titled Queras Norte, is part of the Cowboy exhibition, which aims to challenge traditional portrayals of the American cowboy. At the center of their installation is Esparzas painting al Tempo, which depicts two dark-skinned men in cowboy hats sharing a kiss while dancing together. Both men are fully clothed, and the image focuses on their emotional connection rather than any explicit content. The Cowboy exhibition, which includes works by 28 artists, reexamines the mythology of the cowboy, exploring themes of masculinity, gender, and identity. The museums press release for the exhibition highlights its goal to disrupt the stereotype of the cowboy as a White, cisgender male figure, presenting a more diverse range of interpretations across different communities. The show seeks to reflect a broader understanding of the cowboy and what it represents in modern culture.Despite the exhibitions inclusive mission, the museum initially faced controversy soon after the exhibit opened on September 28, 2023. According to reports from the Fort Worth Reporter, the museum temporarily closed the exhibition with no explanation. When the exhibition reopened, a mature content warning sign was placed at the entrance, along with a QR code allowing visitors to preview the artwork before entering. The museums decision to issue the warning, without providing specific details about which works it considered to be mature content, has sparked criticism. Notably, the museum did not issue similar warnings for other parts of the exhibit that feature nudity or violent imagery. Texas art publication Glasstire reported in October that the museum also removed promotional banners and billboards advertising the Cowboy exhibition. Furthermore, the museum reportedly canceled several family-oriented programs and events that were originally planned around the exhibit. As of late January, signage advertising Cowboy was absent from the museums exterior, and the exhibition is scheduled to run through March 23, 2025.While the museum has not disclosed the specific works that prompted the content warning, sources within the institution suggested that complaints regarding the sexual identity depicted in the exhibit contributed to the decision. During a Zoom meeting with the museums curators, Esparza and Guerrero were told that some museum visitors had expressed discomfort with the LGBTQ+ content of the exhibition. Staff members at the museum reportedly expressed surprise at the decision to close the exhibit temporarily and relaunch it with the content warning.A museum spokesperson issued a statement acknowledging the controversy, explaining that the decision to add the warning was made to give visitors a chance to preview the works in advance. The museum emphasized that it strives to consider community feedback and suggested that the changes were made in response to concerns raised by visitors. Additionally, the museum indicated that some family and homeschool events related to the exhibition had been adjusted to reflect the feedback.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Fabian Guerrero (@fei_bian)Esparza, in an interview with KERA, called the content warning a form of censorship, pointing out that the decision seemed to target their artwork simply because it portrayed two men dancing together. He questioned why a depiction of a Black cowboy or a woman riding a horse would not warrant a similar warning, calling the situation absurd. What would it feel like for an artist if someone came in and said, Hey, Id love to invite you to see the show, but I have to warn you, youre going to see a painting of a Black cowboy, Esparza remarked during an artist talk at the museum.Guerrero echoed Esparzas sentiments, stating that museums should create space for queer joy and celebration, especially when the content of their work is not harmful. Our project is just two men dancing together, and theres no harm in that, he said. Guerrero also pointed out that museums frequently display works that deal with themes of slavery and colonization, yet queer narratives and expressions of love are often relegated to the margins. The decision by the Amon Carter Museum has sparked a larger conversation about the role of museums in representing diverse identities and the balance between community sensitivities and artistic freedom. As museums continue to navigate issues of representation, it remains to be seen how institutions will handle works that challenge traditional notions of gender, sexuality, and race in the future. For now, Esparza and Guerreros artwork, along with the rest of the Cowboy exhibition, continues to be on display at the museum, serving as a reminder of the complexities surrounding representation in contemporary art and culture. The post Museum Adds Mature Content Warning to Exhibit with Painting of Two Cowboys Kissing appeared first on Gayety.

'Time' cover depicts Elon Musk as president, the countdown to a Trump meltdown starts now
In a move that seemed designed to make Donald Trump resentful, the cover of Time magazines latest issue features Elon Musk sitting behind the presidents desk in the Oval Office. On Friday, Time magazine released their new cover art with Musk sitting at the Resolute Desk and the internet went wild with people including journalists like Mehdi Hasan predicting that Trump was going to have his ego bruised by the image. (@) While Trump has had nothing but praise for Musk, it wasnt long before he lashed out by being critical of the magazine. At a press conference with the prime minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, a reporter asked if he had a reaction to the new Time magazine cover that has Elon Musk sitting behind your resolute desk? No. Is Time magazine still in business? I didn't even know that, Trump sarcastically replied before going on to say, Elon is going a great job. This isnt an unusual response from a president who has no compunction about lashing out at the press, like calling the newspaper of record the failing New York Times when its been critical of Trump in the past. (@) While its impossible to know exactly how Trump will react, we do have some precedence to pull from. During Trumps first attempt at running the country, Steven Bannon went from being Trumps right-hand man to being left out in the cold after he appeared on the cover of the biweekly magazine. MSNBC reports that he left the White House amid rumors that Trump was annoyed after Bannon landed on the cover of Time with the magazine asking, Is Steve Bannon the Second Most Powerful Man in the World? (@) The image of Musk sitting in the presidents seat quickly went viral on social media, with people posting that Trump was likely to be angry with it being implied that he is merely Musks puppet.Over the course of the last few weeks, Elon Musk has gone from a campaign contributor and Trump cheerleader to quickly infiltrating every corner of the U.S. government with no oversight, and now, its not just critics on social media who are saying Musk is the real president, a well-respected magazine is implying it too.The illustrated cover teases the cover story titled Inside Elon Musks War on Washington and documents Musks effort to overhaul the government since Trump took office on January 20. This is the second time the billionaire tech CEO has graced the magazine's cover. Back in November, the cover and feature article implied that Musk was a "kingmaker" for financially supporting Trump's bid for president, CNN reports.Musk may have realized he needed to do some damage control since Trump has a history of ousting people who try to take his spotlight because the Tesla CEO took to X (formerly Twitter) to kiss the metaphorical ring, in the weirdest "no-homo" way possible. I love @realDonaldTrump as much as a straight man can love another man, Musk posted, also responding to Trump's post that he plans to sign an executive order to get rid of paper straws by writing, Greatest President ever! Kit Williamson is stripping down & exploring polyamory in spicy new show 'Unconventional'
A new TV show about chaotic gays? Sign us up.Kit Williamson is the heartthrob who's starred in a slew of hit projects including EastSiders and Mad Men, but his latest role may be his favorite yet.The multi-hyphenate directed, produced, and starred in the brand new show Unconventional, which serves as a spiritual successor to EastSiders by following a group of dynamic queer people trying to simply survive in this world."I love gay shenanigans! Unconventional is a dark comedy about two eccentric gay siblings and their significant others trying to start a family. The brother, played by me, will be the sperm donor to his sister's girlfriend. Of course, everything goes haywire. Their lives are falling apart," Williamson tells PRIDE. See on Instagram As if a queer family trying to have a baby isn't juicy enough, Williamson's character and his partner also explore threesomes and polyamory to spice up their relationship."I think affording queer characters the right to be complex and flawed is just as important as positive representation. People have sex! That's a part of life. It's a part of relationships and we'd be remiss not to explore it. There's a lot of throuple trouble going on, for sure."Although there's no shortage of wild themes explored in Unconventional, audiences will giggle as all of the storylines play out on screen. After all, laughter is needed now more than ever... and who better to bring the funny than Willam Belli and Kathy Griffin?"You gotta cast drag queens and Kathy Griffin! I'll write something for Willam in everything I ever do. I'm absolutely obsessed with him. Everybody, at some point in their life, has been a complete and total mess. I just really want to tap into that core memory for everyone. I think people can relate to that."Unconventional premieres on Tuesday, February 11, on Revry. • Jay Seabrook Daddy Tony Randel
    WWW.PRIDE.COM
'For the Love of DILFs' winners Daddy Tony & Jay get raw, real, and romantic (exclusive)
In a season full of gag-worthy moments, the return of For the Love of DILFs season two fan favorite Daddy Tony Randel may have been the, well, mother of them all. While his first shot at love in Dr. DILFs mansion may have been ill-fated, in season three he found a passionate match with himbo Jay Seabrook together they rode that chemistry all the way into the finale.Thats not to say they didn't have their own issues to overcome. Professionally, they couldnt be further apart. Daddy Tony is a banker and Jay earns his living following his passion, literally, as an adult content creator. After a brief hesitation, Daddy Tony came to the realization that there was no issue for him, and Jay was happy to see that his match was not going to try and change him which would have been a dealbreaker. The rest of the season was smooth sailing, with a lot of smooching for the duo (quite an upgrade from the infamous forehead kiss of season two).In the finale, the full cast returned for a reunion which culminated with them voting for the couple they felt had the most future potential. It came down to two couples, Daddy Tony and Jay versus Robert and Samuel. While the latter pair had faced a rockier road throughout the season, Robert had confessed his love for Samuel during the Romeo and Juliet challenge. Despite that declaration, Daddy Tony and Jay were both confident in facing off against them.I wanted to go against Robert and [Samuel]...over Victor [Yates], because Victor had a lot of good relationships with the daddies, so did I, and I knew that if we were going against them, we would have a better chance, Daddy Tony tells PRIDE. Also I knew that all the himbos like Jay, so if we could just get rid of Victor and Dani I felt like we had it in the bag. From the moment that Daddy Tony entered the house as one of the new daddies and picked Jay for his first date, Jay was laser-focused on him, and regardless of the drama that popped off in the house, their connection never wavered which proved to be a major advantage when it came to the final vote. Everyone else got stuck in all their drama, that's what their energies were on versus us. We were spending time [together]. We were just being the big brothers of both groups, Jay tells PRIDE. So knowing that we were going to go against Sam and Robert, although I love their story arc, I kind of knew we're going to have the advantage also because Steff brought back all the drama and put Robert on the hot spot.Jay, of course, is referring to the love triangle that emerged when Steff entered the house and caught Roberts eye. While Sam and Robert did ultimately resolve their issues, Daddy Tony and Jay remained skeptical about the whole situation. [Robert and Steff] were making out a lot more than they showed, so I said at the reunion that they were doing a lot. Every time I'd be walking around the house, I would see them two together, like on the stairs and everywhere, Daddy Tony reveals. I think Robert just saw that he could probably win with the other person but he was way more into Steff, from what I saw. There was definitely a disconnect [between Robert and Samuel] that happened, Jay agrees You can see it in those episodes that Sam is interrogating Robert, and he's still treading the waters and seeing how he feels. Sam was really, really turned off about the whole situation. There were times that we were talking in the room and I was like, I don't know where Sam's headspace is at, because up until that point, Sam didn't really make any connections with any of the other daddies. So I was like, it's either Robert or no one else for him. While that certainly cast a new light on that drama, Robert was far from the only daddy who found himself in the hot seat this season. Some of the most heated tension was between daddies Victor and David Smith when the former accused the latter of being too promiscuous with the himbos after David locked lips with both Timmy Hilton and Steff. However, according to David in a previous interview with PRIDE, Victor may have been doing a little side romancing as well, which Daddy Tony seemingly confirms. Well, I heard when I got in the house the first night that [he and Nicholas Rodriguez] did cuddle, but I heard it was like an anxiety type of thing, like they both was having a little crisis or [were] a little stressed out, being in the house, he explained. Nick was ready to leave because he was having, like, a little bit of an anxiety situation and they kind of came together to comfort each other. It was more like a friendship, cuddling, not a real 'we going to have sex,' cuddling.Jay, on the other hand, is dubious. I'm sorry. I don't buy it, he says. Victor made me extremely uncomfortable multiple times at the house. I said it in the first episode that he was behaving one-way off-camera and another way when the cameras turned on. From that point on, anything that that man said and how he was heavily involved in trying to sabotage other couples, it made me feel extremely uncomfortable not only as a contestant on the show but as a sex worker. The amount of sex shaming he did over making out was extremely inappropriateIt did seem a bit out of step with a show that so unapologetically showcases queer love and sexuality. Yes, it's very steamy and often leans into the camp, but along the way, the show has also presented frank, moving, and even destigmatizing conversations around consent, abuse, sex work, and HIV status. The show is extremely entertaining but also not so quietly revolutionary. So Victors accusations of bed bugs did not sit well with some. Daddy Tony, however, was quick to defend his friend. Okay, hold on. I just want to defend the daddies for one second, We are older. From my experience of dating younger guys now, the lines of monogamy and relationships are so blurry now. It's so different. Because back in the days we were monogamous and we just cheated, like everybody else, he laughs. Now everybody wants to just be like, 'I'm going out to f*ck this guy and I'm coming back home.' Like, what?! It's taking a little bit of getting used to the new stuff. So, like I said, Victor's older...we from a different generation.Thats not to say Daddy Tony isn't afraid to be unapologetically sex-positive. Case in point: his first date with Jay where he asked the himbo about his feelings on eating ass. As it turns out, it was the perfect icebreaker for Jay. It made me extremely comfortable because that's my home turf. I don't have any reason to have any inhibitions when it comes to my sexual appetite. It is such a big, important part of my life. Once you pass that talk, once you have those conversations that people are scared of having, that's when you can get, like, really deep with your conversations, he explains. So once I was able to define that connection with Tony on the show, we were able to just fully commit to it every single episode. So then when it came to interacting with other couples or having certain altercations with other contestants, we weren't really phased. We already knew what we had going on was great.Jay is a proud sex worker and a popular OnlyFans content creator, so naturally fans have been calling for the couple to collaborate on the platform while there are no concrete plans at the moment, they hint that there is a possibility we will see the duo in the future. I don't know if I'm ready for OnlyFans. I'm warming up to it, though, admits Daddy Tony. Jay, however, is ready to go. My legs will always be open for that. So whenever you're ready, he says, adding that Daddy Tonys Instagram subscription proves his mind is opening up. Im working up to it. Instagram subscriptions are kind of racy. They are racy, Tony admits with a laugh. While the duo was not shy about sharing their sexual chemistry they hope that viewers at home see them more through their story. Queer love stories from the most camp to the most epic are powerful simply in their visibility, which feels particularly important at this moment something that isn't lost on Jay. I hope it inspires more people to have a voice, especially when your queerness is being targeted and as our identities continuously are politicized. This is our chance to use our queerness as a path of hope and love, and for us to be able to build community and whatever goes against us, just continuously be ourselves, he says. The only way to go through it is together. It's a little bittersweet, but I know that this footage will be out there forever for people to see, and hopefully someone will take it as a positive. We can all survive this together.Daddy Tony hopes the queer community finds something deeper in the show as well, namely less snap judgment about their fellow queer folks. Don't judge people. If you immediately be like, Oh, he does this. I'm not messing with him. Oh, he got this. I'm not messing with him. You don't know this could be the most beautiful person, the most wonderful person, he says. I just had a conversation with someone who asked me if I was poz friendly, and I said, 'Yes, I am.' And they were looking at me like I was the problem, and I'm like, 'No, you're the problem.' Daddy Tonys wisdom (and that accent) made him a fan fave, and his return was a delightful surprise the question now is could we see some more former cast members joining future seasons? Jay and Daddy Tony have some ideas about who theyd like to see return to the DILF mansion. I was just thinking about this. I think the person that deserves another chance is actually [Anthony Hairston] from season two, says Daddy Tony. I think he got kind of shafted in his season when [Hazel Hoffman] just said... 'Oh, he's into me.' No, he just was being nice to you! [Anthony] got kind of the short end of the stick. So I think he deserves another chance.[Phoenix Lee] needs a redemption, suggests Jay. He is so liked by the community and so liked by viewers. The first thing people saw in season three was him chasing Stormy's car, opening the door, and then just vanishing into thin air. Bring him back! While there is no firm news on future seasons of the hit show, fans and PRIDE alike remain hopeful that Dr. DILF will be back for another season of intergenerational romance. But was this seasons experiment a success? When asked the big question, i.e., if this couple is still in fact one, Jay is the first to answer. So sadly, we decided that romantically, we are okay not together. We still have a lot of love and attraction for each other. I did visit him a couple of months after we ended the show. So we spend a day together, a night together. I ate his ass, you know, the regular, he confesses. We got it in without cameras, jokes Daddy Tony. Let me just say this, we gave it the college try. We didn't just end it and be like, we're gonna collect our check. We weren't performing for the cameras. He came to New York. We hung out, and it was great. I don't know if it was the distance or the time zone thing, things started to just kind of fall by the wayside. Were gonna be friends forever, though. Were gonna be cool forever. That might not be the forever they entered the house hoping for, but love is love, even when sometimes it's in the form of friendship.

Retired Olympic ice skaters perform together to push for inclusion of same-sex pairs
Two world renowned ice skaters are using their retirement to push for same-sex skating pairs to be permitted in major competitions. And theyre doing so by skating together.Gabriella Papadakis and Madison Hubbell are returning to the ice as part of the Art on Ice Gala throughout Switzerland in February. The two have known each other for seven years, competing as rivals but also going on to train together at Montreals Ice Academy.According to Papadakis, this whole thing started when they decided to pair up after skating together "for fun" during training one day."We realised that it was quite cool and that it was quite enjoyable and we said to ourselves, when were finished with our competitive career, well try it for real," she told AFP.Hubbell retired from competitive skating after the 2022 World Championships, although she and partner Zachary Donohue were belatedly awarded a gold medal for the 2022 Winter Olympics last year. But it wasnt until December 2024 that Papadakis who also took home a gold medal in the 2022 Olympics officially followed suit, paving the way for this new partnership between the women.See on InstagramPart of their interest in changing the status quo sounds practical a way to allow for more women and girls to pursue ice skating at a competitive level."I see a lot of young women who want to pursue ice dance in a certain way and there's not that many young boys or men who are competing," Hubbell told Reuters, "so there's a limit to how many people right now are participating."Right now, Skate Canada is the only governing body that allows for same-sex couples to compete nationally, a rule thats only been in place since 2022.But as the skating champions have pursued this path, theyve come to realize inspiring change in this manner could mean even more than they initially knew."It wasn't our basic intention but we realise what it can represent, what it can show, for us, it's something that is close to our hearts too," Papadakis told AFP. "I also realised while skating with Madison, is that there were codes that I had never really questioned all my life.""With this project, we dream of a future where everyone can find their place on the ice," Hubbell added, "regardless of their vision or identity."

Chappell Roan Responds to Bold Online Criticism for Grammys Speech: Lets Talk
Chappell Roan, the breakout pop star known for her hit Pink Pony Club, has hit back at a critical op-ed written by music industry veteran Jeff Rabhan in The Hollywood Reporter. In the piece, Rabhan criticized Roans comments made during her acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammy Awards, calling her remarks condescending and dismissing her as too green and too uninformed. The controversy began when Roan, accepting the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, used her platform to advocate for struggling artists. She highlighted the difficulties of up-and-coming musicians, specifically mentioning how she lost access to health care after being dropped by a record label and calling on the music industry to better support emerging talent with fair wages and adequate healthcare benefits. In his op-ed, Rabhan took issue with Roans comments, labeling her Chappell Groan in a dismissive tone and suggesting that she was uninformed about the complexities of the music business. He also challenged her to put your money where your mouth is, questioning whether she was truly committed to the cause of supporting artists.Roan, however, quickly accepted Rabhans challenge. In an Instagram Story post, she called on Rabhan to match her $25,000 donation to struggling artists, writing, Hey @jeffrabhan wanna match me $25k to donate to struggling dropped artists? My publicist is @biz3publicity. Lets talk.In a subsequent post, Roan shared a selfie and added, Will keep everyone updated on the much-awaited @jeffrabhan response!! And I will show receipts of the donations. She further elaborated, Mr. Rabhan, I love how in the article you said put your money where your mouth is. Genius!!! Lets link and build together and see if you can do the same.Roans response has sparked significant attention, especially with her bold challenge to Rabhan. It also underscores her ongoing commitment to advocating for greater support for emerging musicians who often struggle with the same issues Roan faced before finding success. In addition to calling out Rabhan, Roan used her platform to spotlight several lesser-known artists she believes deserve more attention. In a series of Instagram Stories, she recommended several rising stars, highlighting their work and encouraging her followers to listen and support them.Among the artists Roan spotlighted were Hemlock Springs (@hemlockesprings on Instagram), a musician with a unique and haunting style; Sarah Kinsley (@sarahkinsleyd on Instagram), whose emotionally charged music has earned her a growing fanbase; and Devon Again (@trashytrashy on Instagram), who brings an innovative and experimental sound to the indie scene. Roan also highlighted Baby Storme, an artist whose work blends pop and alternative influences to create a distinct musical identity. Here are some artists that deserve more love and a bigger platform, Roan wrote, sharing links to the musicians music on popular streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. By recommending these up-and-coming talents, Roan continues her advocacy for greater recognition and support for lesser-known musicians who may not have the same level of industry backing as more established stars. The confrontation between Roan and Rabhan highlights a larger issue within the music industry: the financial and emotional struggles faced by emerging artists. For many musicians, the path to success is fraught with obstacles, including lack of access to healthcare, financial instability, and the constant pressure to stay relevant in an industry that often prioritizes big-name artists over newcomers. Roans comments at the Grammys, and her subsequent actions, serve as a call to action for the industry to reconsider how it treats and supports its rising stars. As the music world watches this unfolding exchange, it remains to be seen how Rabhan will respond to Roans challenge. Will he match her $25,000 donation and contribute to the cause of supporting struggling artists? Roan has made it clear that she is ready and willing to put her money where her mouth is, and she is eager to hold industry figures accountable for their role in supporting the next generation of musicians.Roans advocacy, paired with her rising success in the music industry, continues to make her a powerful voice for change, and it is clear that her impact extends far beyond her music. The post Chappell Roan Responds to Bold Online Criticism for Grammys Speech: Lets Talk appeared first on Gayety.

FX Comedy Series English Teacher Renewed for Season 2 Amid Controversy
FX has announced the renewal of its comedy series English Teacher for a second season. The show, which first premiered on FX and Hulu in September 2024, quickly garnered critical acclaim for its unique premise and strong performances. Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, English Teacher has received praise for its clever writing and sharp humor, cementing its place as one of the standout comedies of 2024.We are thrilled with the success of English Teacher and are excited to bring another season to our audience, said Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment. The series was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024, and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors, and crew for the shows creative excellence. We look forward to continuing the story in season two.Alongside Alvarez, the series features a talented cast including Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher. The show follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas, who navigates the complexities of personal, professional, and political challenges in his day-to-day life. Over the course of the first season, Evan juggles his relationships with his students and colleagues while grappling with the question of whether it is possible to truly be oneself in a professional environment.Alvarez not only stars in the series but also serves as an executive producer, alongside Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender, and Zach Dunn. The series is produced by FX Productions.Despite the positive reviews and the renewal announcement, English Teacher has found itself at the center of controversy due to serious allegations made against Alvarez. In August 2024, Jon Ebeling, a former friend and co-star of Alvarez from the 2016 web series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, publicly accused Alvarez of sexual assault via an Instagram story. Ebeling expanded on the accusations in an article published by New York Magazine in December 2024, in which he also claimed that English Teacher star and writer Stephanie Koenig played a role in maintaining a toxic dynamic between him and Alvarez. In response to the allegations, an FX spokesperson stated, We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the shows launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time. The network did not address the ongoing controversy or Ebelings claims in its announcement of the shows renewal.Despite the legal and public challenges surrounding Alvarez, English Teacher has maintained a strong following, with many fans and critics praising the shows honest exploration of workplace dynamics, identity, and relationships. Alvarezs portrayal of Evan, a character struggling with balancing his personal beliefs with his professional responsibilities, has been particularly lauded for its depth and relatability. The first season of English Teacher also explored themes of political correctness, societal expectations, and the pressures of being a teacher in a modern high school environment, where personal opinions can often clash with institutional norms. The series has been commended for tackling these issues with humor and a sharp, critical eye.The renewal of English Teacher for a second season comes as the show has developed a dedicated fan base and become a notable part of FXs growing slate of original comedies. As the second season moves forward, viewers can expect more of the same witty dialogue, engaging character arcs, and explorations of difficult social and personal topics. For now, fans of English Teacher will have to wait for further details regarding the upcoming season, which is expected to continue its deep dive into the life of Evan Marquez and the ever-complicated world of teaching. With the renewal of the series, FX appears committed to continuing the shows unique brand of humor and its nuanced take on contemporary issues. The renewal news also brings new attention to the ongoing conversation about the allegations against Alvarez, which could continue to shape public perception of both the actor and the series. However, it remains to be seen how these developments will affect the shows future and its relationship with audiences. The post FX Comedy Series English Teacher Renewed for Season 2 Amid Controversy appeared first on Gayety.

Fans Wonder if Former Wizards of Waverly Place Star Dan Benson Is Actually Closing His OnlyFans Account
Former Wizards of Waverly Place star Dan Benson has announced that he is stepping away from his adult entertainment career by shutting down his OnlyFans account, a decision he made after reflecting on his past actions and personal motivations. Benson, who became widely known for his role as Zeke Beakerman on the Disney Channel show, opened up about his choice in a recent TikTok video that has since been deleted.Bensons venture into adult content started in 2022 after private photos of him were leaked online. Initially, he turned to OnlyFans as a way to regain control of the narrative and support his financial needs, including paying medical bills for his elderly dog. However, in the TikTok post, Benson admitted that, after several years in the adult industry, the experience had started to take a toll on him, leading him to reconsider his path forward.I think Im done, Benson said in the video. When I made the decision to start an OnlyFans page, I thought I was doing it for the right reasons. I was doing it to support financially my elderly dog that needed a lot of financial help with his medical bills. I was tired of being so poor and feeling like I was being taken advantage of. I dont know. I think after years of doing this, its starting to weigh on me and Im going to pull away for a while and take some time to reflect. The 37-year-old actor, who has gained a significant following on social media since his departure from the Disney Channel spotlight, went on to express his gratitude for his fans support. He also hinted that he may explore returning to acting or seeking a more traditional job. However, given that Wizards of Waverly Place has been rebooted with many of its original cast members, it seems unlikely that Benson would reprise his role, especially given his adult content history. He has previously acknowledged that Disney, which maintains a family-friendly image, would likely not welcome his return due to his adult film career.Thank you to everyone who has supported me this whole time, Benson continued. I might go back to acting. I might just go and try and get a normal job and disappear. Just be a normal person. I dont really know. I hope I can remove some of the stuff that is already out there. So if youre thinking about doing this, just be thoughtful, because I know its going to be really hard.Although Benson has made the decision to shut down his OnlyFans, as of February 6, his account remained active. However, he has since continued to engage with his audience on other platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where he posted a spicy video just days after his announcement. It appears that while hes stepping away from adult content, Benson is not completely disappearing from the public eye just yet.Bensons journey into the adult entertainment industry has been a controversial one, especially given his former Disney Channel fame. Many fans were shocked to learn that the actor, known for his wholesome role on Wizards of Waverly Place, had started creating adult content online. However, Benson has repeatedly emphasized that his decision was financially motivated, driven by the need to support his family, and that he never anticipated the personal and public challenges that would follow. Now, as he steps away from the adult industry, Benson is reflecting on the impact his choices have had on his life and his career. It remains to be seen what direction he will take next, but for now, he seems focused on stepping back and considering his future options, whether they involve a return to acting, pursuing a normal job, or continuing to live a more private life away from the public eye.In the coming months, fans may get a better sense of what Bensons next steps will be as he takes the time to regroup and reflect. The post Fans Wonder if Former Wizards of Waverly Place Star Dan Benson Is Actually Closing His OnlyFans Account appeared first on Gayety.

People With Autism Are More Likely to Identify as Asexual. Why?
Photos by Canva. Design by Sam Donndelinger.Subscribe nowGrowing up, Jordan Busits never understood the appeal of romantic comedies like her friends did. When she was in middle school and a classmate asked to be her boyfriend, she recoiled and felt a visceral aversion.Once she hit puberty, she thought she would start developing crushes or getting the hots for her peers. I was raised to believe that eventually, hormones will hit you, and youll get attracted to boys or girls, but it just never came, she told Uncloseted Media.Photo courtesy of Busits. As time passed, Busits became increasingly confused. Whats wrong with me? she would wonder. It wasnt until she was 17 and voiced her frustrations in her high school lunchroom that a friend suggested she may be asexual.Although Busits had never heard of the term, she immediately felt it encapsulated her experience. Now 27 years old, Busits describes herself as aromantic, asexual and autistic: A triple-A battery, if you will.Aromanticism (ARO) and asexuality (ACE) are defined by a lack of romantic or sexual attraction to any person of any gender, though the extent of the disinterest varies by individual.About 1% of all people identify as ACE, according to the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN).Busits experience reflects a growing body of research highlighting the connection between people with autism spectrum disorder who identify as ACE or ARO. A 2009 study about navigating adulthood with autism found that 33% of the 80-person sample had no interest in establishing a sexual relationship, and seemed asexual in their orientation. This finding was significant enough to warrant further research. Another 2021 study found that asexuality is overrepresented in people with autism spectrum disorder. While research is limited, experts and advocates recognize a correlation. Asexuality in people with autism is frequent, says Mark Stokes, the head of the Healthy Autistic Life Lab at Deakin University.Even on Tumblr, a user posted a poll in 2023 captioned: been picking up some patterns lately Are u neurodivergent and on the ace/aro spectrum? Out of the 7,340 voters, 32.7% answered yes.So, what is behind this correlation? Dena Gassner, a senior research scientist at Drexel Universitys Autism Institute, says that the unpredictability of partner intimacy can deter an autistic person from sex and dating. In an intimate moment when their partner might touch them, if they don't know the touch is coming or where it's going to come, it could lock them up. They could get very, very tense and anxiety-ridden about it, she says.Gassner says many autistic people experience difficulty in interoception, which is the brains ability to identify and process the bodys signals. They may also have sensitive startle reflexes, which could make partner intimacy feel overstimulating and unenjoyable. She adds that many people with autism spectrum disorder also have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition that causes skin elasticity and hypermobile joints. With a high risk of dislocating their joints, activities like sex can be painful and risky, causing some people with both conditions to avoid it altogether.Subscribe or consider upgrading to paid to support our journalism. Busits believes her asexuality is tied to the hypersensitivity she experiences as an autistic person. Our bodies cant handle physical contact and communication like a neurotypical can, she says. They can go for hours and wed need breaks.Photo courtesy of Busits.According to AVEN, asexuality does not necessarily mean abstaining from sex completely; but it could mean approaching it in a particular way. Some people may feel sex-indifferent, meaning they may be willing to engage in sex to please a partner but do not desire it themselves. Or, they may feel sex-favorable, meaning they may be open to finding ways to enjoy sex with a partner. Busits says she identifies with a third category, known as sex-repulsed.I consider my sex repulsion not just to be an asexual thing, but more so dictated by my autism, because I wouldn't want anyone or anything so much as touching me around my lower half, she says.Busits says that self-pleasure is where it gets tricky. While some ACE people do not feel any urges to masturbate, others may explore methods that do not agitate their sensitivities. I would not want to use a vibrator because that's a form of penetration, and I don't want that at all, Busits says.Stokes says that navigating the social nuances of partner intimacy may also deter some autistic people. While most autistic folks are more than capable of mastering social skills, he says they may not want to navigate both the physical and social aspects of partner intimacy at the same time. If they do seek sexual pleasure, they may prefer a solo activity like masturbation.Gassner says that she has met many autistic women who strictly prefer bondage in sex, as it can involve clear rules like safe words that stop the interaction. It also limits a partners ability to touch them unexpectedly. If you're in the dominatrix role, you have complete control over the situation, she says. But for many ACE and ARO people, there is zero romantic or sexual interest toward others. It feels like there's a hole where attraction should be. I dont feel attraction to anyone in any sense, says Em, who is autistic and asked to go by only her first name because she is not out to her family as aromatic. No matter how many people I see, my brain and body simply don't react the same way others do. It feels like there's something missing mentally when I talk to others who experience it," she told Uncloseted Media.Em believes she is asexual in part because her autism causes her to struggle with empathy. I feel like I'm missing a full set of emotional processes that should be there. It can get rid of or minimize attraction, she says.A 2022 study published by the National Institutes of Health found that autistic people experience an imbalance between cognitive and emotional empathy. While a neurotypical person can more easily identify another persons emotions and understand what those emotions feel like, a neurodivergent person may struggle to do both simultaneously.Subscribe for LGBTQ-focused journalismEmpathy is a complex phenomenon, and empathetic presentation varies across individuals with autism, says Stokes, adding that the idea that autistic people do not feel empathy is entirely untrue. He says that about 50% of people on the autism spectrum have alexithymia, the trait that makes it challenging to identify and process emotions. Alexithymia can reduce ones ability to emotionally connect with others, which may decrease their desire for a romantic relationship.Busits says that since first identifying as asexual in 2017, she has noticed more acceptance and understanding from those around her. Now I'm seeing people walking into our bookstore wearing pins like the asexuality or the aromantic pride flag, so I think theres a positive shift of us being allowed to be more open about our sexualities. However, Busits says adding the autism layer to asexuality causes a specific kind of ignorance. Many people just assume we're more juvenile, that we can't understand the concept of a romantic relationship or the idea of having sex with another person. I don't think I need to explain to you how horribly rude and ableist that is, she says. It would be like saying homosexuals only go for the same sex because they don't understand anything about the opposite sex. While autistic people disproportionately identify as ACE or ARO, 67% of autistic participants in the 2009 study are still interested in sex and romance. In fact, some autistic people may enjoy sex more than neurotypical folks because it gives them an intense sensory reaction that feels pleasurable. There are sensory seekers who like deep pressure and physical contact; for those people, sex is fun, says Gassner. For people on the autism spectrum, a lack of desire for partner intimacy does not mean a lack of love for others. Em says she is open to a partnership and hopes to find someone who understands and accepts her identity. Without attraction, I tend to have higher standards than [people who arent aromantic], she says. It needs to be a practical pairing and something were both emotionally invested in. And without attraction, I can find somebody from basically any group of people regarding their gender or sexuality.AVEN classifies this kind of relationship as queerplatonic: a non-romantic and non-sexual partnership that is more intimate and committed than a friendship. Queerplatonic partners may, for instance, live together, co-parent and share a bed but not marry or have sex with one another.Ive noticed theres a love hierarchy in society, says Busits. Friendships, family, and sibling relationships are always put below romantic and sexual relationships. How one would consider a wife and her husband to have a stronger form of love than a wife and her friends is ridiculous. Why do platonic relationships have to be seen as lesser?Gassner says it is essential to promote that an asexual identity does not mean a complete avoidance of sexual activity. She says it is not only a matter of awareness but also a matter of safety, adding that it is critical people on the autism spectrum have access to sex education. "Instead of teaching them how to be safe and how to make their own decisions, we often withhold the information, thinking, 'Oh, they're so developmentally delayed they don't need to have this knowledge.'"Photo courtesy of Busits.Busits and Em both hope to see more awareness, representation and respect for people on the autism spectrum, people in the ACE/ARO community and, of course, people who are both.I think it would be nice if people got more comfortable with the idea that autistic asexuals aren't just, like, living a stereotype, says Busits. Even if we're a small part of the population, we're still here, and we still deserve to be represented. Autism and asexuality are both very complicated identities. We shouldn't be just put in a box.If objective, nonpartisan, rigorous, LGBTQ-focused journalism is important to you, please consider making a tax-deductible donation through our fiscal sponsor, Resource Impact, by clicking this button:Donate to Uncloseted Media

Love After an Ostomy: How Surgery Affects Dating, Sex and Self-Perception
Montinique Monroe for Uncloseted MediaSubscribe nowJake Golding found himself on Tinder messaging a match, excited at the thought of locking in a date. But before he could ask the guy out, he needed to tell him something important. Im always thinking about when Im going to bring it up, Golding told Uncloseted Media. What if its a dealbreaker? His fingers paused over the keyboard before typing: I have an ostomy, followed by a shaky thumb punch on the send icon.Montinique Monroe for Uncloseted Media.A few minutes passed. Then a day. Eventually, he realized he had been ghosted.Golding, 37, says that after he had his colon removed in 2022 because of severe ulcerative colitis, the physical and mental toll of having to wear an ostomy was rough.I'm single and having a hard time imagining any man finding my body attractive again with this large incision scar, bag and no large intestine, says Golding, a former aromatherapist living in Austin, Texas. There are three main types of ostomiescolostomy, ileostomy, and urostomyeach designed to reroute waste when elimination through the anus or urinary canal is not possible. After the surgery, going to the bathroom on a toilet is now a completely different process. By creating an openingknown as a stomain the abdomen wall, bowel movements are collected in an external pouch attached to the skin. There are nearly one million people in the U.S. who live with an ostomy, and around 100,000 ostomy surgeries are performed each year.People receive ostomy surgery for a variety of health conditions, such as ulcerative colitis or rectal and colon cancer. While support groups do exist, there are still a lot of myths and stigmas surrounding ostomies, like smell and hygiene. Some people are choosing to die rather than undergo the surgery, partly due to their concerns about acceptance. For those who choose to go through with it, a new normal unfolds, and navigating body image, sex and dating are part of the process.Montinique Monroe for Uncloseted Media. For Golding, adjusting to life with a stoma made everything more complicated. The combination of bag and adhesives and all the technical stuff takes a while to figure out, he says. In the beginning, I didn't want to go out because I didn't know if I was going to have a leak. When you're always worried about whether you're going to have poop come out unexpectedly somewhere, it can make being out in public and socializing challenging.A 2019 study in the Journal of Nursing and Health Science found that three-quarters of stoma patients had poor body image and low self-esteem after the surgery. One of the most effective interventions for combating these feelings and maintaining well-being is self-acceptance, though that can be difficult as feelings of rejection, fear of being naked and embarrassment are common after surgery.I feel very, very self-conscious about it, Graham Butler McIntosh, a 43-year-old from Glasgow, Scotland, told Uncloseted Media. I was in the best shape of my life before I got sick, he says. And now, I don't think my body looks nice at all. I'm the kind of person who bases a lot of my self-worth on my self-image, so loving myself now is hard.Butler McIntosh, who got an ileostomy two years ago after the mother-of-all-flare-ups of ulcerative colitis, says his ostomy bag runs through his mind any time he is in public. I dont like it being seen at all, he says. I remember once getting up and doing a karaoke performance and having a lot of fun. I sat down afterward and wondered if everybody could see [it]. What if it was hanging out?Photo courtesy of Butler McIntosh. At the gym, Butler McIntosh hides his bag by wearing his towel higher than usual, double-checking that his T-shirt is tucked in tightly and leaving his shirt on in the locker room.Subscribe nowLike many gay men, Butler McIntosh places so much stock on his body being nice to look at. He says he is never going to be happy with [his] body ever again.Golding also makes sure his bag is disguised at the gym. Part of being masculine is being strong and independent, and my ostomy makes me feel vulnerable.Montinique Monroe for Uncloseted Media. My friends and family have been reassuring, but that's not the same as having a boyfriend accepting you, Golding says, adding that gay men tend to be a lot more visually oriented.I think that it takes a certain kind of person to look past my imperfections now, and I feel preoccupied on dates until I share with people [that I have an ostomy].While some dates have gone well, rejection is common and something that Butler McIntosh experienced the first time he met up with someone after the surgery.Ahead of a hook-up date, Butler McIntoshwho is in an open marriagetold the guy that he had an ostomy. But when they met up and he took his shirt off, things got awkward. He said my bag was scaring him He turned around and wouldn't look at me, so I just put my clothes back on and left.In so many ways, my confidence was just shattered.Since then, Butler McIntosh says that sometimes he wont tell his sexual partners about his ostomy and just keep his shirt on. Its stressful. Sometimes, I have to try and spend a sexual encounter trying to hide it, getting their hands away from certain areas and not letting them do certain things. Or I lie down to hide it, which I shouldn't have to do.One reason that people choose to share about their ostomy is because the surgery can result in the anus hole being sewn shut, known as a Ken or Barbie Butt. And even if the anus is still intact, it can be dangerous to penetrate the rectum, making it difficult to receive anal penetration.Butler McIntosh says it has changed the way he has sex with his husband of 15 years. If he was the [top] and I was the [bottom], that's no longer physically possible. I cannot do that for him anymore. I miss it, he says. That can be very devastating, says Lorraine Grover, psychosexual nurse specialist. If [receiving anal] is a big part of your life, it can change a lot of dynamics within the relationship.Grover says connecting to your body after ostomy surgery is essential. Self-pleasure can be very helpful, she says. If we dont know how our own body responds after surgery, its hard to include a partner in that. You have to know your own body first. She suggests experimenting with new toys, like an o-ring or a penis vacuum. These are especially useful if erectile dysfunction is an issue, which can be common after ostomy surgery due to nerve damage.Use the whole body and areas you havent tried before, she says. Kissing, touching, using the skin, which is a massive erogenous zone. Some accessories can also be added to the stoma bag, like leather or lacey covers that resemble underwear.Intimacy is powerful, and you dont have to give that up, Grover says.Gavin Skolnick, a 41-year-old chef living in the Bahamas, says that having partners who have been accepting and nonjudgmental of his ostomy has been a game changer regarding his body image.Photo courtesy of Kvolek.Gavin shared everything with me before we met so I wouldnt be alarmed, Tess Kvolek, Skolnicks partner of six months, told Uncloseted Media. I didnt blink twice. Its not the most sexy thing, she adds. You go to the bathroom in a bag on your stomach. And on our first date, the bag fell off, and a small accident occurred on the floor. He was mortified. But I just brushed it off. Shit happens. We all have baggagepun intendedsome just looks a little different.Kvolek tells her boyfriend, "Wear that bag with pride. You survived cancer."I found with the right people, it was just easy. You don't have much control over it, says Skolnick, who has had his bag for over 18 years after surviving colon rectal cancer when he was 22. He says his partners support and their communication has made everything feel natural and comfortable.Support is so important, Linda Coulter, an ostomy nurse and a director at United Ostomy Associations of America, told Uncloseted Media. Just asking, What do you need from me? and demystifying the ostomy. Sometimes you can prepare, like going to the bathroom before [sex], not eating certain foods, and so on. Communication is really a huge part of it.If you have a brain tumor or a heart condition, people immediately understand you're going through something big, Coulter says. When it happens to our intestines or waste management system, it's something we're taught from a very young age not to talk about. Its behind a closed door. We need to normalize talking about that. Ostomies are lifesavers and people need to know that.Subscribe nowFor June Turner, a 29-year-old in Wichita, Kansas, that means sporting her ostomy with pride. I don't want it to be some dirty little secret, she says. Unlike many folks who hide their bag, Turner emphasizes it by wearing crop tops and even decking it out with different colored covers, including one that has Hot Girl Shit written overtop.Montinique Monroe for Uncloseted Media.Back in Texas, Jake Golding is still adjusting to life with a stoma and continues to put himself out there. During one date last year, the conversation shifted to ostomies. This time, Goldings date was the one who brought it up.By complete coincidence, he had survived colon cancer and also had an ostomy, Golding says. It was jarring at first, but then I felt very relieved that I was not the only person in the world suffering from this because it definitely feels like that sometimes. Lady Gaga Honors Resilience in Super Bowl LIX Pregame Performance
Lady Gaga opened the 2025 Super Bowl LIX pregame with a poignant tribute to resilience and unity, delivering a heartfelt performance of her 2022 song Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick. Dressed in an ethereal all-white ensemble, the multi-talented performer sang while playing the piano in front of a crowd on Bourbon Street, a symbolic location for both New Orleans and the nation as a whole. The moving performance kicked off the evenings pregame show, which was dedicated to honoring the strength of communities impacted by tragedy across the country. Gagas appearance was a surprise to many, as her performance had not been previously announced. Her song, which was nominated for an Academy Award, was chosen as a fitting tribute to the themes of perseverance and unity highlighted throughout the segment. Before Gaga took the stage, Michael Strahan, co-host of the pregame show, introduced a somber opening segment. He and former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady walked down Bourbon Street in New Orleans, discussing the resilience of the city following a terror attack earlier in the year. Strahan spoke of the collective strength of communities and how, when tragedy strikes, people come together. When tragedy strikes, we dont break, we come together. We rise above and never let evil win, Brady said. The pregame show continued with a tribute to various cities affected by recent tragedies, from New Orleans to Los Angeles. Strahan emphasized that, despite the challenges faced, Americans continue to show resilience, never losing hope. We come together because thats who we are and thats what we do, Strahan added, speaking to the nations spirit of unity. As the camera panned over the crowd, which included first responders, military personnel, and locals wearing NOLA Strong shirts, Gagas performance began, providing a powerful moment of reflection. Her somber yet inspiring rendition of Hold My Hand resonated with many, particularly in the wake of difficult times in cities across the country. In the days leading up to the Super Bowl, Lady Gaga had been in the spotlight for another major career milestone. Just days before the pregame performance, she released her new single, Abracadabra, from her upcoming album Mayhem. The track premiered during a commercial break at the 2025 Grammy Awards, following weeks of anticipation surrounding the singers seventh studio album. Mayhem is set for release on March 7, 2025, and fans can expect a full tracklist to be unveiled soon. The nights pregame festivities continued with a star-studded lineup of performers. Jon Batiste delivered a moving rendition of the National Anthem, followed by Ledisis powerful performance of Lift Every Voice and Sing. Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle joined forces for a soulful version of America the Beautiful. Additionally, Harry Connick Jr. teamed up with renowned jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard for a tribute performance, while the Soul Rebels and the Original Pinettes added their own musical contributions to the celebration.Super Bowl LIXs pregame entertainment was a memorable mix of musical tributes, honoring both the resilience of communities across the country and the spirit of unity that transcends sports. Lady Gagas performance, in particular, left a lasting impression, offering a moment of reflection on the power of music to bring people together in times of hardship. As the world turned its attention to the big game, the pregame show reminded viewers of the importance of community, healing, and strength in the face of adversity. Is Law Roach the newest permanent judge on 'RuPaul's Drag Race'? He sure thinks so!
If you thought RuPauls Drag Race was done shaking up the judges panel, think again, because Law Roach just slid into the third seat, and according to him, hes here to stay. The iconic celebrity stylist, known for dressing people like Zendaya and Celine Dion, just spilled some major tea about his alleged future on the show as a judge. Roach first appeared as a guest judge during Season 16, where he quickly became a fan-favorite for his sharp critiques and undeniable presence. Now, after his appearance on Episode 6 of Season 17, he is dropping major hints this is no one-time gig.See on InstagramI am not the special guest judge, Roach told Parade in an exclusive interview prior to the episode airing. I am sitting next to Ru, and Hunter Schafer is the special guest judge this episode. He also said his new position was rotating. The rotating third seat he took in the episode has historically been occupied by Drag Race regulars like Ross Mathews, Carson Kressley, and Ts Madison. While Roach hasnt indicated hes replacing anyone, he hinted that fans should expect to see him more often. As of this writing, World of Wonder has not officially confirmed or commented on Roach joining the cast. See on InstagramWhen asked about his future on the panel, he played coy: I dont know what I can say. But I mean, we all know what that third seat represents.Fans have supported the idea of Roach becoming more regular on the show since he first appeared, and this isnt the first time hes expressed interest in joining, either. Back in November, he told Gay Times that if he was asked to join Drag Race full-time, he definitely would. @gaytimesWould @Luxury Law join the @RuPauls Drag Race judges panel? #dragrace #rupaul #rupaulsdragrace #dragracecontent #fashion #fashiontiktok #rupaulsdragraceallstars #legendaryMaybe he got his wish?Although the show hasnt said anything yet, if his words (and that prime real estate next to Ru) are any indication, he may already have one foot in the Werk Room door for good.

GLAAD responds as WWE chooses not to renew lesbian wrestler Sonya Devilles contract
Sonya Deville, the first openly gay woman in WWE history, is parting ways with the company after nearly a decade.Reports from OutSports confirm that WWE will not renew Devilles contract, which expires later this month, making her a free agent without the standard 90-day noncompete clause.Deville first rose to prominence in 2015 as a contestant on WWE Tough Enough, where she came out publicly as gay. Since then, she has been a vital force for LGBTQ representation in wrestling, making history as the first openly lesbian woman to compete at WrestleMania. She won the WWE Womens Tag Team Championship in 2023 and was a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the sport, regularly representing WWE at GLAAD events and playing a key role in the companys first significant Pride Month celebration.See on InstagramGLAAD has responded to the news, voicing disappointment over the loss of a groundbreaking LGBTQ+ figure in wrestling.News broke that the WWE chose not to renew the contract of fan favorite and our friend Sonya Deville, said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement. Sonya is the first openly gay woman to be a WWE Superstar and a fierce talent who changed the game for LGBTQ visibility in the WWE. For a decade, she has received loud cheers from LGBTQ and allied WWE fans. Womens wrestling is the fastest-growing youth sport in the country and this decision strips Netflix of a huge opportunity to reach a key growth audience as it brings WWE to its platform. She will be missed, and Im joining fans to support her.See on InstagramThe timing of Devilles exit coincides with WWEs highly publicized transition to Netflix, a historic shift that could bring an even larger global audience to the brand. WWEs $5 billion deal with Netflix makes the streaming giant the exclusive home of Monday Night Raw, with additional programming like SmackDown and WrestleMania available internationally. While WWE has yet to comment on Devilles departure, she acknowledged the news by updating her Instagram bio to read, To be continued Whether that means a return to wrestling elsewhere or a new path entirely, her legacy in WWE is cemented as one of the most significant for LGBTQ+ athletes in professional wrestling history.

Lucy Dacus debuts 'Best Guess' music video packed with 'hot mascs' she cast from TikTok
In January, Lucy Dacus put out a call for "hot mascs" to be in her new music video. And now, its finally here and it was worth the wait Fans were freaking out at the start of the year when Dacus made the savvy decision to use TikTok for her open casting call."I am seeking some people to be in the music video for this song," she wrote as her latest song, "Best Guess," played.Everyone interested was invited to upload a TikTok using the corresponding audio. Her team would pore over them to find people who "are smooth or suave or can pretend to be."The results did not disappoint. The final video features a handful of familiar faces Dacus herself, along with Cara Delevingne, Towa Bird, MUNAs Naomi McPherson, and Greys Anatomy actor E.R. Fightmaster are all front and center throughout. But the diverse group of hot mascs Dacus wound up casting from TikTok are much more than background fodder.@lucydacusbest guess feb tenWhile theres no specific narrative at play here, we are instead treated to a variety of scenes of everyone partaking in activities that are traditionally viewed as masculine. Donning suits, they play a game of poker, led by Delevingne. Stripping down to undershirts (and sometimes less), others reenact being in a gym alongside Fightmaster. Beyond that, theres pool, darts, arm wrestling, and moments where everyone gets their close-ups.All, of course, while Dacus looks on appreciatively, singing, "You are my pack a day / You are my favorite place / You were my best friend before you were / My best guess at the future."It somehow manages to pull off being both adorable and hot at the same time, which feels like the perfect crossover vibes for Dacuss intended audience. But don't take our word for it; you're definitely going to want to check this one out for yourself."Best Guess," written, performed, and directed by Lucy Dacus.

Selena Gomez Proud of Emilia Perez Despite Karla Sofia Gascns Online Controversy
Selena Gomez addressed the ongoing racism controversy surrounding her Emilia Prez co-star Karla Sofia Gascn, expressing her support for the film and her involvement in the project despite the backlash. Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday, Gomez was asked about how she was handling the chaos surrounding the films Academy Awards campaign, which has been marred by controversy over Gascns past social media posts. When asked by a moderator how she was feeling amid the turmoil, Gomez responded, Im really good. Some of the magic has disappeared, but I choose to continue to be proud of what Ive done, and Im just, Im just grateful and live with no regrets. The star, who has been involved in a variety of high-profile projects recently, added, And I would do this movie over and over again if I could, earning applause from the audience. The Gascn ControversyThe controversy surrounding Gascn, who plays the titular character in Emilia Prez, began in late January when past offensive social media posts resurfaced. The posts, which contained racially charged comments targeting Black people, immigrants, and Islam, sparked outrage. Gascn, the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for an Oscar, has since apologized multiple times, attempting to defend herself against accusations of racism and xenophobia. In an hour-long interview with CNN en Espaol, Gascn addressed the controversy, offering further apologies.Despite Gascns public efforts to make amends, the backlash continued, leading some cast members, including Gomezs co-star Zoe Saldaa, to distance themselves from the comments. Saldaa, during a recent Q&A in London, emphasized her disapproval of Gascns remarks, stating, It makes me really sad because I dont support [it], and I dont have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric toward people of any group.Jacques Audiards Response and Gascns SilenceThe controversy surrounding Gascns comments also led to director Jacques Audiard, who helmed Emilia Prez, severing ties with the actress. Audiard confirmed his decision last week, following an interview where he distanced himself from Gascns behavior. In response, Gascn chose to step back from discussing the film publicly, acknowledging that her silence might allow the film to be appreciated for its artistic merit rather than the controversy surrounding her.Following Jacques interview that I understand, I decided, for the film, for Jacques, for the cast, for the incredible crew who deserves it, for the beautiful adventure we all had together, to let the work talk for itself, Gascn wrote in an Instagram post. I sincerely apologize to everyone who has been hurt along the way.Gascns statement signified her attempt to focus attention back on the film itself, which tells the story of love, identity, and difference.Gomezs Continued Support for the FilmDespite the controversy, Gomez has remained steadfast in her support for Emilia Prez and her involvement in the project. In her comments at the film festival, Gomez emphasized that while the recent events have undoubtedly impacted the experience, she remains proud of the work. Some of the magic has disappeared, she noted, referring to the way the films Oscar campaign has been overshadowed by the scandal. Still, she reiterated that she holds no regrets about her participation in the movie. The film, which centers on Gascns portrayal of the titular character, has drawn attention not only for its storytelling but also for Gascns groundbreaking role as the first openly transgender actor to receive an Oscar nomination in the acting category. However, Gascns past posts have overshadowed the films accolades, turning the conversation toward her actions off-screen.A Larger Conversation on Accountability and ToleranceThe incident has sparked a larger discussion about accountability in the entertainment industry, particularly in regard to past behavior and public figures social media history. It has also raised questions about the line between an artists personal history and their professional accomplishments. While many have condemned Gascns comments, others have pointed out the need for ongoing dialogue about race, discrimination, and the impact of words in the digital age.For Gomez, the controversy surrounding her co-star has added a complex layer to her experience working on Emilia Prez. Yet, she has remained focused on the work itself, emphasizing that she is proud of what the film represents, even if it has been marred by controversy. As Emilia Prez continues its awards season run, the conversation around Gascns past and the broader issue of racism within the entertainment industry remains at the forefront. The film, which had initially garnered attention for its groundbreaking nature and positive reception, now faces the challenge of being overshadowed by the controversy surrounding its lead actress. However, with support from fellow cast members like Gomez, it seems that the films artistic merit may still shine through as the story unfolds in the public eye.The situation continues to evolve, and it remains to be seen how it will impact the films potential at the Oscars and beyond. For now, Gomezs unwavering support of the film serves as a testament to her commitment to the work, regardless of the external challenges that have emerged. The post Selena Gomez Proud of Emilia Perez Despite Karla Sofia Gascns Online Controversy appeared first on Gayety.

LGBTQ+ Groups Announce Boycott of U.S. Events in Protest of Anti-Transgender Policies
Egale Canada, one of the leading LGBTQ+ rights organizations in the country, has announced its decision to boycott all in-person events in the United States, citing the Trump administrations ongoing attacks on the transgender community. The boycott will affect major gatherings such as the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations and WorldPride, which is set to take place in Washington, D.C., later this year.In a statement released this week, Egale Canada explained the rationale behind the decision, highlighting the significant risks faced by transgender and nonbinary individuals in the U.S. due to recent policy changes. After deep consideration, we have decided not to engage in-person in this years Commission on the Status of Women or any other UN, OAS (Organization of American States), or global convergences, including WorldPride, taking place in the United States in the foreseeable future, the group said.Boycotting U.S. Events Amid Ongoing Transgender Rights ChallengesEgale Canadas move comes as the U.S. government continues to roll back protections for transgender people. A key factor in the boycott decision was the U.S. State Departments decision to stop allowing gender marker changes on U.S. passports, effectively halting the issuance of travel documents with the X gender marker. This change has left many nonbinary individuals unable to obtain documents that align with their gender identity. The removal of transgender-specific resources from the U.S. State Department website, replaced by the acronym LGB instead of LGBTQI+, has further marginalized transgender and intersex individuals within the larger LGBTQ+ community.Egale Canada pointed to these actions as the primary reason for its withdrawal from participation in U.S.-hosted events. The organization expressed concerns about the safety of its transgender and nonbinary staff members, who would face potential discrimination or mistreatment at U.S. borders. This decision is foremost based on the need to safeguard our trans and nonbinary staff who would face questionable treatment at land and aviation borders to attend such convenings, the statement read. The group also noted its solidarity with international colleagues who share similar concerns about entering the U.S. amid the ongoing legal and policy changes. The U.S. governments crackdown on gender identity recognition has caused significant anxiety for many LGBTQ+ activists and travelers, particularly those from outside the country.ACLU Lawsuit and Legal Uncertainty for Transgender TravelersIn response to these issues, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of seven individuals who have been unable to obtain U.S. passports that accurately reflect their gender identity. The lawsuit challenges the Trump administrations gender ideology executive order, which mandates that government-issued identification documents, including passports, reflect a persons sex at conception. The full impact of this directive on transgender and nonbinary travelers remains uncertain. Immigration Equality, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, warned that travelers whose federal identification documents do not match their state-issued documents, such as a drivers license, may face harassment or discrimination by travel security agents or airline personnel.Broader Economic and Political Context for the BoycottEgale Canadas boycott is not limited to the Trump administrations policies on transgender rights. The organization also cited the presidents recent threats against Canada, including a proposed 25% tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S., as a factor in its decision. These economic and political threats have led some Canadians to reconsider their travel plans to the U.S. and to advocate for a broader boycott of U.S. goods and services in retaliation. The group emphasized that its decision to boycott U.S. events is also a response to what it describes as economic warfare and threats to national sovereignty. We cannot in good conscience engage in a process of disentangling our organization from the U.S. goods and services and then proceed to travel to the U.S., Egale Canadas statement read.In recent weeks, President Donald Trump has stirred controversy by making light of Canadas sovereignty, joking about annexing the country as the United States fifty-first state. This idea was echoed in a Super Bowl interview with Fox News, where Trump reiterated his support for the notion.Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to these remarks on Friday, calling Trumps threats a real thing that could have serious consequences for both countries.Ongoing Support for Transgender Rights and Global AdvocacyDespite the challenges, Egale Canada remains committed to advocating for transgender and LGBTQ+ rights on the global stage. The organization has long been a vocal supporter of policies that protect the rights of marginalized communities, and its decision to boycott U.S. events is a demonstration of its commitment to those principles. While Egale Canadas actions are rooted in the protection of transgender rights and a rejection of discriminatory policies, the organization also seeks to raise awareness about the broader implications of these policies for global LGBTQ+ communities. The boycott serves as both a protest and a call to action, urging the international community to stand in solidarity with transgender people and to hold the U.S. accountable for its treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals. As the situation continues to unfold, Egale Canadas decision to withdraw from U.S. events marks a significant stance in the ongoing battle for LGBTQ+ rights and the fight against discriminatory policies. The post LGBTQ+ Groups Announce Boycott of U.S. Events in Protest of Anti-Transgender Policies appeared first on Gayety.

Dolly Parton Musical Here You Come Again Forced to Kick Out Attendees for Shouting Homophobic Slurs at Cast Members
A recent Dolly Parton musical production, Here You Come Again, has faced unexpected homophobic abuse from some members of the audience, who appeared shocked by the inclusion of a gay character in the show. The musical, featuring iconic hits like I Will Always Love You and Jolene, was staged at the Opera House in Manchester for a five-night run, which concluded on Saturday, February 8.Steven Webb, a West End star who plays comedian and Dolly Parton fan Kevin in the production, took to TikTok to reveal the disturbing level of homophobia that the cast and crew encountered during the performances. Webb shared that a significant number of audience members had to be ejected due to homophobic outbursts, calling it insane. @thatsteviewebb #musicaltheatre original sound Stevie Webb Its crazy to me that in this day and age, were still dealing with this kind of thing, Webb wrote in his post. He went on to describe a particularly alarming incident during the final performance, where one person was removed from the auditorium for shouting out slurs during the show. Earlier in the week, a woman was removed after expressing her disgust over the presence of a gay character on stage, prompting an outburst that caused the show to be temporarily halted.Webb recounted the incident, saying, She was shouting out, and then all the audience started shouting at her. There was a massive ruckus. Webb, who plays a character with a romantic storyline involving a male partner, emphasized how surprising it was to encounter such hostility in a show centered around the legendary country star, Dolly Parton.London was the worst, which is crazy to me, Webb continued. I remember one guy who was shouting the F slur, saying, Im not here to watch some f*ing f**t talk about his boyfriend, I just want to see Dolly Parton. Its like, Its a Dolly Parton musical, mate. Its going to be a little bit gay, obviously. The musical Here You Come Again is based on the life and music of Dolly Parton, who is known for her philanthropic work, including significant contributions to LGBTQ+ causes. Despite Partons long-standing support for the LGBTQ+ community, some theatergoers still found the depiction of a gay character in the show difficult to accept.Webbs comments shed light on the disconnect between the inclusive message often celebrated within the theater industry and the challenges of traveling to various parts of the country. The actor shared his surprise at how many people in different locations were visibly uncomfortable or outright hostile when faced with the portrayal of a gay person on stage. This experience has really opened my eyes, Webb admitted. We are in such a bubble in this industry. But traveling the country and seeing how many people cannot bear to see a gay person depicted on stage, its wild.Webb, who has also appeared in The Book of Mormon, went on to compare the situation to something as inconsequential as personal preference for color. It would be like if I had that reaction to the color blue, he said. It exists, its not going anywhere, but I could not escape it. I feel really bad for them because Id be like, Oh f**k, the sky. Eventually, Id probably just realize its not actually hurting me, its not affecting my life, its just blue, and its just not my favorite color.Parton has long been a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, with her charitable endeavors benefiting several LGBTQ+ organizations and causes. Despite her history of support, Webbs experience on stage revealed how deeply ingrained prejudices still persist in certain areas of the country, even within the context of a musical about an artist renowned for her inclusive and open-hearted values. The incidents of homophobic abuse at Here You Come Again serve as a reminder that LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream entertainment remains a contentious issue for some. The backlash also highlights the progress yet to be made in fostering greater acceptance and understanding of LGBTQ+ characters and stories on stage and screen. While Webbs experience was disheartening, he continues to express his hope that these types of reactions will eventually fade as audiences grow more accustomed to the diverse representations of love, identity, and humanity that are now becoming increasingly common in the arts. For now, the musicals message of inclusivity and Dolly Partons enduring legacy of love and acceptance remain at the heart of the production, despite the challenges it faced during its run in Manchester. The post Dolly Parton Musical Here You Come Again Forced to Kick Out Attendees for Shouting Homophobic Slurs at Cast Members appeared first on Gayety.

Jacob Elordis Queer Drama On Swift Horses Gets Release Date
Jacob Elordi, best known for his roles in Euphoria and Saltburn, is set to star in the upcoming queer drama On Swift Horses. The film, which is based on Shannon Pufahls acclaimed novel, will be released in the U.S. on April 25.On Swift Horses takes place in the 1950s and follows the complex lives of its central characters. Elordi plays Julius, a Korean War veteran who transitions into a gambler. The film explores his intricate relationships with a married couple, Muriel and Lee, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Will Poulter (The Bear, The Maze Runner). Despite her marriage to Lee, Muriel finds herself drawn to Julius, the younger brother of her husband, setting the stage for a compelling love triangle. While Julius and Muriel are separated by distance, their connection remains strong. As the story unfolds, Julius embarks on a passionate affair with Henry, portrayed by Diego Calva (Narcos: Mexico), whom he meets in a Las Vegas casino. The love triangle at the heart of the film examines themes of longing, identity, and forbidden desire, set against the backdrop of post-war America. The film also showcases a talented ensemble cast, including Andrew Keenan-Bolger, known for his work in theater, adding another layer of depth to the story. The movie has garnered significant attention since its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, particularly for its dream-like queer sex scenes, which have been described as both intimate and powerful. The film is directed by Daniel Minahan, whose previous work includes directing episodes of Game of Thrones, True Blood, and Fellow Travelers. Minahan said he was particularly drawn to On Swift Horses because it offers a re-imagining of the American dream, except through a queer lens. He noted that Pufahls novel tells the story of characters who are hiding themselves, watching, exploring, and trying to find themselves. Minahan emphasized that the narrative is not tragic, but ends on a hopeful notea key element that he and his team were committed to preserving.I was really attracted to the idea that these characters connect in a way that feels like a search for something deeper, but its not tragic, Minahan said. Its a story about exploration and hope, which felt like something important to me.The screenplay for On Swift Horses was adapted by Bryce Kass, whose writing credits include Lizzie (2018). Kass script brings Pufahls novel to life with vivid character development and emotional depth, carefully balancing the historical setting with contemporary themes of identity and love. The film also marks a significant moment for LGBTQ+ representation in Hollywood, with its exploration of queer love in a 1950s settinga time when such relationships were often hidden from view. The film is expected to resonate with audiences who are drawn to narratives of self-discovery, love, and the pursuit of personal freedom, set against the constraints of societal expectations.Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordis chemistry is one of the key draws of the film, with critics already praising their performances. Elordis portrayal of Julius promises to be both intense and vulnerable, while Edgar-Jones brings a sense of longing and complexity to Muriels character. Together, the pair creates a compelling dynamic that is sure to captivate audiences. The films atmosphere is enhanced by its striking visuals and evocative cinematography, which transports viewers to the vibrant yet tense world of mid-20th-century America. With its blend of romance, drama, and queer representation, On Swift Horses is positioned to become a landmark film in both the queer cinema genre and mainstream storytelling.Alongside Elordi, Edgar-Jones, Poulter, and Calva, the film features performances from a talented supporting cast, further elevating the story. Minahans direction, combined with Kass screenplay, ensures that On Swift Horses is not only an exploration of love and identity but also an examination of a pivotal moment in American history. As the release date approaches, fans of Elordi and queer cinema alike are eagerly anticipating the films debut. On Swift Horses promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally resonant exploration of love, self-discovery, and the pursuit of happiness in a world that often tries to keep people hidden. For those interested in a unique perspective on love and identity, On Swift Horses is a film to watch out for.The post Jacob Elordis Queer Drama On Swift Horses Gets Release Date appeared first on Gayety.

Queer women and GLP-1s: Navigating health, weight and stigma
It was a hundred little things. The way my knees nearly gave out as I climbed down the stairs in the morning. Not fitting in an airplane seatbelt. Falling behind my fellow journalists on a hike during a press trip.I have struggled with my weight for over 20 years, and now, in my mid-40s, I realized I needed to take steps to set myself up for a healthier future. Over time, my cholesterol and triglyceride levels were rising, and my A1Cresults showed me getting closer to the pre-diabetes range. In August 2024, I talked with my general practitioner about starting a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). Within a week, I started using compounded tirzepatide from a reputable clinic recommended by my doctors office. My story is not unique. According to report by KFF, an independent source of health policy research, around 1 in 8 adults in the United States have used or are currently using a GLP-1. While Ozempic (a semaglutide) is the most well-knownhaving gained popularity in celebrity circles in recent yearsthere are several other brand-name drugs with similar effects. Rybelsus and Wegovy join Ozempic in the semaglutide category, while Mounjaro and Zepbound are brand names for tirzepatide.Semaglutide and tirzepatide work in similar ways, increasing insulin secretion, slowing gastric emptying, and reducing appetite. Both drugs were originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes and are still used for that purpose. Along with a reduced appetite, GLP-1s are successful in reducing food noise, or the constant preoccupation with food that many people, like myself, experience. As this drug quickly changed my lifereducing strain on my muscles and joints and helping me understand decades of disordered eatingI hesitated to share that I was taking a GLP-1. As a lesbian and queer woman who has long advocated (and still does) for body positivity at any weight, I worried my decision would feel like a betrayal to my queer community.I spoke to six lesbian, bisexual and queer identifying women who are on similar journeys, and were open with their experiences losing weight on a GLP-1. Some were keeping this information close to the vest, while others were happy to share their experience with friends and family.I want to feel healthyStudies show that lesbian and bisexual women are more likely to be overweight or obese than their heterosexual counterparts. One study done in the United Kingdom showed that queer women were 14% more likely to have a higher body mass index (BMI) than heterosexual women.Weight alone does not automatically determine whether someone is healthy. There are many people with higher BMIs that are living robust and healthy lives. But for others, comorbidities like high cholesterol, increased risk of type 2 diabetes and hypertension can put real strain on their health.Melissa S., 35, of Kansas City, Missouri, has been on a GLP-1 for a few months. She initially considered it to help manage weight gain associated with a chronic illness.Ive tracked my diet and exercise for a long time to try to find trends in what helps or triggers flare ups with my condition, said Melissa. After reviewing this with a nutritionist, she came to the conclusion that my weight gain was likely genetic and I would be unable to lose weight through changes to my diet or activity and would need medication to help.Liz S., 34, of Dallas, has struggled with weight for most of her life. Diet and exercise were unsuccessful, and her doctor encouraged her to explore other options. At first we discussed it as an option to help with weight loss, said Liz. However, I did become pre-diabetic, and this was the best option to help.Liz encourages others to talk to their doctors about a GLP-1.We all have different bodies and what we need to maintain a healthy life, said Liz. What works for some people may not work for others. It is important to find a network of healthcare professionals that support YOU and not just you achieving a number on a scale.Jill C., 68, of San Francisco, has experienced fluctuating weight for years and wanted to take action. For her, a GLP-1 has been a game changer. Its a miracle drug, and I couldnt be more excited for the results, said Jill. I only want to feel good and fit into clothes instead of continually growing out of my clothes. I want to feel healthy. And that point is different for everyone. I can be a size 8 and 10 and feel my best, where others are a 12 or 14 and feel their best. Its personal. But I do have more energy, less body pains, and food is no longer my emotional crutch.Ellie S., 25, of Los Angeles, has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which makes losing and maintaining weight more difficult due to insulin resistance and imbalanced hormone levels. GLP-1s have shown promise in treating PCOS.Ellie was initially hesitant to start a GLP-1, not wanting to be that girl from LA whos on Ozempic. But she changed her mind after learning she was at risk for becoming prediabetic.I swallowed my pride and let her write me a prescription, said Ellie. S. And Im very glad I did.One in eight Americans has tried a GLP-1. Photo: Renee B/PexelsErin W., 44, Detroit, has been using GLP-1s on and off for several years. For Erin W. not only has it helped with her weight, but also curbed her desire for alcohol. (GLP-1s are also showing promise for treating alcohol and other addictions.)There have been pros and cons of taking it, but one of the positives for me personally is it curbs my desire to drink alcohol, said Erin. And as someone who loves to drink a little too much wine on any given evening, it helps keep that in check and allows me to make healthier choices around alcohol. As someone who has stopped and started GLP-1s, Erin acknowledges that getting off the medication can bring back those previous behaviors and issues.Id say a con for me is that once I stop taking it, its hard to fight against the food noise once the GLP-1 has worn off, which can mean gaining the weight back, as well as increasing my alcohol intake.Morgan B. 33, of Boston has spent years slowly gaining weight and not being able to successfully reverse it.Id tried everything, from exercise and diet, to just exercise, to just diet changes, every program under the sun: keto, Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, macro counting, said Morgan B. I consider myself a relatively healthy eater anyway and it simply didnt matter. Nothing worked. After Morgans mother had success with a GLP-1, Morgan decided to give it a shot.I want to have children at some point, Im 33 years old, I felt like every year I was putting on another 10-15 pounds despite my best efforts to stop it. I had to try.The cost of losing weightOf the six people interviewed for this article, two had their GLP-1 covered by insurance. Liz S. and Ellie S. were able to get medication prescribed due to a pre-diabetic diagnosis, but the rest of the interviewees paid out of pocket, myself included. The cost of brand-name GLP-1s like Mounjaro and Ozempic can be prohibitive for many, with uninsured monthly supplies averaging $1,200 to $1,500. Part of the cost comes from proprietary patents on both the drug and the injectable pens patients use.Compounded medication, which requires self-dosing and insulin needles, costs significantly lesstypically between $150 and $500 per monthbut remains unapproachable for many.Doctors are working directly with compound pharmacies to provide more cost effective options for patients. Also, online sites like Hers, Ro, and even weight loss app Noom, offer compound options. This was made possible by supply shortages by pharmaceutical companies like Ely Lilly, which allowed for compounding pharmacies to step in and fill the void. Now these pharmaceuticals are pushing back on compounding.Coming out about GLP-1sTalking about weight loss and GLP-1s can be a difficult conversation due to fear of disapproval. For Morgan, its about recognizing where disapproval of GLP-1 may come from. Its easy to throw that blame at each other and tell people they are wrong for accessing GLP-1s, said Morgan. But to me, all of that criticism and all of that anger belongs in the places causing these problems: the insurance industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the so called diet and nutrition industry. Because at the end of the day, the reality is that we should all be able to have access to the life changing, health changing medications that are out there and that are not limited in supply, whether they are a means of physical survival or emotional/mental well being.Erin shares that it took educating her friends about GLP-1s to combat the stigma.I think at first when people didnt know much about it they were not happy about me taking it, said Erin. Once I was able to explain where I was coming from and some of the ways it has helped me aside from weight loss, I think they were more open minded. However, it still can bring up strong emotions in people, Erin shares.I can see it on their faces when I talk about it. I find it a bit contradictory for society, specifically LGBTQ+ folks, to be promoting body positivity and yet when people are admitting to using help to achieve the positivity they are looking for in their own bodies, we make them feel bad for that. That being said, it is not lost on me that not everyone can afford to pay for this out of pocket and that some insurances dont cover this. I recognize the financial privilege that comes along with being on this medication and that not everyone is afforded the same privilege.Ellie S. has mostly kept the news of her GLP-1 use to herself due to responses shes heard.Ive gently brought up the subject of GLP-1s, just kind of in general, to my friends (basically all of whom are queer) and they will immediately make jokes about it, said Ellie. Never really at the expense of people taking it, but more directed at LAs body positivity issues in general. I know they wouldnt judge me for taking it, at least not consciously, but its still the kind of conversation that is going to take longer than I want it to. Someday, maybe after Ive been taking it for a little while longer, Ill let them know that this is something Im doing. But for now, this is my personal journey.Melissa equates the stigma to the bigger issues with obesity and health. Her doctor put it in terms that helped Melissa push past her issues with the medicine. No matter the circumstance, theres this external pressure that being fat is a personal failure, said Melissa. That simply isnt true. Theres also the additional stigma of using a medication to help you lose weightthat youre just lazy, another personal failure. This also isnt true. I was hesitant to start this medication because of these stigmas and my doctor explained it like this: you wouldnt consider it a failure to wear glasses, so why is this any different?Liz on the other hand has found her friends and queer community to be very accepting and supportive of her journey. They want me to be happy with my health and if this treatment is helpful then they support me, said Liz.Its your journeyWeight, health and identity are deeply personal, and conversations around GLP-1s make that even more complicated. For many LGBTQ+ individuals like myself and the people interviewed here, the decision to use these medications is about more than weight lossits about reclaiming control over our health, breaking cycles of disordered eating, and managing conditions that have gone overlooked. At the same time, there are real conversations to be had about access, privilege, and the pressures society puts on bodiesespecially queer bodies. For those considering this path, its not just about numbers on a scale but about feeling good, inside and out. Some people are open about their GLP-1 journey, others prefer to keep it private, and both are okay. What matters most is that everyone has the options they need to make the best decisions for themselves. Are you on a GLP-1 and want to share your experience? Liam Payne Allegedly Struggled with His Sexuality and Had Inappropriate Conversations with Men in New Report
Details of Liam Paynes troubled relationship with ex-fiance Maya Henry have surfaced four months after his death in October 2024. Allegations regarding the former One Direction members behavior and struggles during their on-and-off relationship from 2018 to 2022 are highlighted in a Rolling Stone cover story published Tuesday.Multiple sources have revealed to the magazine that Payne, who passed away at 31, allegedly struggled privately with his sexuality. According to the insiders, the singer sent sexually explicit messages to other men while he and Henry were dating. These revelations have added a new layer to the complex and tumultuous relationship between the pair.Henry, 25, reportedly discovered Paynes secret sexting when he accidentally broadcast the messages to their television. Further claims from sources indicate that Payne, in an effort to control Henrys decisions, allegedly forced her to terminate a pregnancy in 2020. One source described a heated conversation in which Payne allegedly gave Henry an ultimatum: either get an abortion and stay with him or raise the child alone with no support from him.He sent Maya a long message saying its either get an abortion and stay with him, or raise the kid alone, and he will not acknowledge either of them, the source claimed. This was particularly shocking to Henry, as Payne had previously expressed a desire to start a family, and the couple had been trying for a child. The model later confirmed her abortion in her 2024 novel Looking Forward, which she said was inspired by her relationship with Payne. In the book, Henrys character, Mallory, goes through a similar experience. During a May 2024 interview, Henry revealed that she faced medical complications following the procedure and had to go to the hospital alone, though she did not specify when the abortion occurred. In addition to these allegations, the Rolling Stone report also included troubling accounts of physical violence. Sources claim that Payne pushed Henry down a flight of stairs and chased her with an axe during their turbulent relationship. In a statement to the magazine, Henry expressed the depth of her feelings for Payne despite the abuse. I loved him very much, she said, acknowledging the challenges of loving someone struggling with addiction. While I loved him deeply, he did things that hurt me in ways Ill never fully understand, and he continued to hurt me years after we broke up.Henry also admitted to ignoring red flags during their time together, putting herself in harmful and unsafe situations. However, she clarified that she did not blame Payne for his struggles, emphasizing the complex nature of their relationship.Following their breakup in 2022, Henry made headlines by sending Payne a cease-and-desist letter after he allegedly sent unsolicited, disturbing images and videos to her and her loved ones. By this time, Payne had moved on to a relationship with Kate Cassidy, who was with him in Argentina shortly before his death. In October 2024, Payne tragically fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires. Cassidy, who had returned home to the U.S. alone, was reportedly not with him at the time of the incident. Women may have won at the box office in 2024, but other marginalized groups weren't so lucky
Are female protagonists finally getting their time to shine at the box office? According to an annual study on inequality in film, for the first time, the answer is "yes"For the past 18 years, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has published an annual report examining gender, race/ethnicity, and age of leads and co-leads in the top 100 films released each year. According to this years study, studios broke new ground in 2024 by finally achieving parity between male and female leads.Of the 100 top-grossing films of the year, 54 featured female protagonists a notable upward trend compared to 2023, where female protagonists were only featured in 30 of the top 100 films. It feels like a win for women at least for the time being but the remainder of the data didnt look quite as optimistic. The study also found that only 25 of the top 100 films featured a non-white lead or co-lead, down from 37 the year prior. Latino/Hispanic representation was the lowest among the group, with only a single film (Abigail) featuring a Latino or Hispanic actor at the helm. Multiracial actors made up the bulk of this group, featured in 11 out of 100 movies.Another disappointing conclusion drawn by the study is that older actresses still arent being afforded the same opportunities as their male counterparts in feature films. Only 8 films starred an actress in the 45+ age range, compared to 21 male actors. While the age statistics stayed similar to what they were in 2023, the fact that underrepresented racial/ethnic groups became even more underrepresented this year is a stark reminder that were not always marching forward. We wont have GLAADs annual studio responsibility index analyzing films from 2024 for LGBTQ-inclusion until later this year, but their analysis of 2023 provided a similar reminder. In that study, they found the number of LGBTQ+ characters in fictional films from 10 major distributors decreased from 253 in 2022 to 170 in 2023.The majority of 2024 films looked at by the Annenberg Inclusion Institute came from the following distributors: Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, and Sony Pictures Ent. Of these companies, only Disney has scaled back its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts amidst Donald Trump's return to the presidency so far.As to whether that will change and how this impact will be reflected on screen remains to be seen. But for now, at least weve finally gotten one year where studios invested in films featuring female protagonists and saw it pay off.
